LIVE
Hey, dude, I don't know if you know this, but I'm officially an influencer. I know well
I saw it this week and I'm
You know just just don't know what to quite think about that
Don't know what to quite think about that. Am I a journalist though?
Could do I call myself a journalist or I mean, what's the difference? You can just call yourself whatever
I mean, there's no there's no standards to any of it
So you might as well just pick the one that fits you the most that day, right? Whatever fits me that day
You get like if you get to drive a car, you don't never got the drive you're like, I'm gonna give you my thoughts
Yeah, shout out to Yuri from the straight pipes who commented on that video. He was like, am I an influencer reviewer?
I'm so confused. I don't know. Yeah, that was hilarious. Those guys are great
But yes, actually as a matter of fact when I do get into cars that aren't mine or that I'm not usually in I am gonna turn
Into that guy. I'm gonna put on my tie on be like, I'm gonna give you the course and features
Of this car that you're probably never gonna buy and you're probably never gonna own
But and don't really care about much and don't really care about much
That was a really interesting video that kind of you know got some attention like who's an influencer who's a reviewer who's a whatever
So maybe we'll expand on that
But I do want to start we got two emails and usually I send them to Nick beforehand
But I just thought this was so funny that I wanted to get his reaction that the the subject Rick red I yearn quote Seinfeld reference
Already one of the best emails we've ever gotten
But real quick we'll start at the top here back in 06. I scored my dream C5 06. I loved it, but
That's a great car, right? Yeah
Loved it, but had my fill of the experience after some time, which you just talked about once you've had the experience
You just kind of move on from it
Life events got out of it in 09. I'll always keep my eye out in the market
Essentially what the listener would like to know is he going crazy?
Has anyone ever gone back to a car that they once had their fill of and then ended up regretting going back to it as well
Well, I mean, I'm sure there has been but there's a lot of people and this is a very viable thing is is that you
sell a car or a truck or whatever and you go and
Have other experiences right and you try other things and you do other things and all of a sudden you look up and you go
You know, I really like that thing the best and yeah, there's plenty of people
that I deal with that you know that that
sell something and
Don't regret it because the price they got or whatever they just tried other things and I go
You know, that really is my favorite thing to drive around
Right, so you're a gen one Raptor guy
I mean a lot of people upgraded Raptor and ended up going back
Yeah, you know just just to kind of keep it topical in our network, you know of this podcast like yeah, absolutely. I mean I
Think if you find something and I think I said this last week, I mean if you really truly love something
And that is what you like to drive around that is the best place to be yeah
It really is
That's not how I'm built and I even said last week. I wish I was kind of built to do that
So if you love it and you've tried other things and you're like look man, I just really like that platform
I think you go get you another one. I mean that that's exactly how I would think about it if I was in that position
There was actually so for listeners that it didn't see the video
I started posting on my personal Instagram at Rob G TV, which unless it's a podcast clip for the last
I don't know literally maybe half a decade to almost a decade
It's always just projects
I've been doing that are a podcast or something media related
It's not just me trying to influence you if anything I'm doing the opposite this time
I'm actually I'm asking to be influenced by good or bad or indifferent had a pull up a couple people
Over a hundred people and then a ton of comments
And some of those turned into DMs and funny enough dude one of the pair of conversations and they're being brothers
It had no idea they were both messaging me one was talking about suspension the other one's talking about audio
Just good people and you know, we've had such and I even
Pin my own comment or like don't get me wrong
We've had vile commenters over the last 17 months
But there was also some cool people out there and so by July 1st
I'm gonna kind of take a lot of the suggestions and some of them were actually things
I already planned on doing and some had actually had things done here in Texas on their vehicles, which is great
But it's just it was cool
And I want to do the same conversation piece with the LX eventually because I'm gonna influence from Texas to Vegas like what maybe
Nick does to the LX because I don't know in the DMs even when I said that video people just want to hang
They want to bust balls the problem
I think publicly is that they want to not necessarily people they're coming on my video
But they'll comment on some of your videos that go viral is that they just want to have like a
superiority approach almost we're like they're gonna tell you the right and you're
They don't know how to hang. Yeah, they don't how to hang. That's a good way to put it. Yeah, like that. That's I
Always kind of look at it this way
Are you somebody that people want to have a beer with? Yeah, you know, are you a guy that people want to have a beer?
I'm not talking about your lifelong friends. I'm talking about somebody just met you
You're at a bar
Can you be a good hang? That's what this is kind of all about and and I like what you say about superiority complex, which is like
You know, we had this, you know, what a Jeep guy say something about, you know
This Jeep is better than that Jeep. There is a difference and I go there both Jeeps dog relax
Relax like as a guy that's owned lots of Jeeps. Let me tell you it's a Jeep. They're all inferior to most products
Sorry guys love Jeeps. Okay, I've enjoyed them in my life
You know, I got to what I think experience Jeep and its natural habitat on the PC age top down no doors and joy in life
You know, all that kind of stuff. So I I'm into Jeeps. I get it. I understand the whole thing
But it is a superiority thing and and I just go
Maybe we haven't done a good job all the time letting people know what this is all about. It's like look dude. Just hang out
It's not this serious, I promise you
And I grew up myself with my uncles and my dad loving Jeeps as a matter of fact to this day a man's in his 70s
He's still working. He's working on another Jeep in my mind
I'm like, you know, we could just get something a little bit more modern. Let's just a little bit more modern
Nope, he's got the whole thing taken apart seats are out, you know fix and rust welding things
I'm like, all right, that's what really kind of just keeps you going like just I guess stay active at this point
Yeah, just just just do your thing do something
But I think by the way that scrambler will be produced
I think some people are arguing whether they would even come to market and I it's well
And I think even if it's a special edition, we've seen that that
Jeep Dodge they they kind of are embracing
Special editions and they've kind of I won't say that all of them have been produced because that's not how it's happened
But they've sort of leaned into we're gonna do a special thing here there
We're gonna we're gonna this is where we're gonna go, right? What was it like a new color Jeep every month?
Yeah, or whatever and so
They've kind of leaned into that and I think if you look at this this scrambler. It may not be the the most
Highly produced thing that they do I think that there's an argument that that's probably and they'll do you know a 392
And that's all they do. I mean all that stuff could happen
But I think it'd be kind of foolish to go this far down the road for them and not this this wasn't a concept release, right?
Where you know, they're in a air-conditioned place and they're showing you a kind
I mean they kind of alluded to the fact this this was coming out. You're going to do something like this. I
Understand being a little skeptical of that with any brand, but it seems like this one's probably gonna make it speak speaking of leaning into it
Did you see the I don't have it pulled up
But I think it's well and I think it's Dodge and Hellcat and all the collabs are doing with Under Armour and college students
I saw a little bit of this, but I didn't dive too deep. Yeah, so I guess it's some like NIL, you know under Armour thing and it's
There's this guy follow that used to work for I think Nike and he does a lot of these breakdowns with like
Social and you know young athletes and then these brands and we've talked about Nike, too
Like they're kind of they've been in trouble for a while like that that real trouble
This has been in big trouble for a while, but this collaboration is like essentially what what do college kids like right?
They love football football players, especially like they love football and they love Hellcats
They want to raise hell on the field and they want to drive a Hellcat. Yeah, it's a look
It's it's a great crossover way to lean into it
You know, you'll see a lot of them wrecked, you know, they'll all have a body shop or two visits
Or ten
But there's no question like
We are seeing an out of out of the box moment for companies like Dodge. I mean we are I mean
I would say more brands are probably going to do stuff like this
Dodge is you know, and I think Dodge has been with something that people have misunderstood
It's largely always been underfunded
And so they've always done
More creative commercials more let me do something wild here because they didn't have sort of the
Big budgets of all of these other brands and you can look at that throughout history for a very very long time
And so they're they're always sort of the first to do a lot of these types of things
What they should have done or should maybe still do when the muscle trucks really launch is
Redo the debut from 08 or 06 wherever it was when we looked at the charger
Have a cop chase have a little bit of an arrest scene use some of your new NIL players in it like one
Yeah, I mean just do what you got to do
Anything to make the sale move the metal, right?
Metal all right. Well, we got to start the show with the real first story, which is slate
Oh slate. I had a memory pop up on my phone
It was one of the videos that were just in my camera log and it was of like the first video
We had done talking about slate. It was actually the last summer. It was literally the last June May, June ish and
Here we are we got some pricing
We got a leak and now we have actual pricing and now we kind of have like a full-fledged
Outlook of what these things are going to cost. Do you have any immediate thoughts on those prices? I?
Think it's safe to say a lot of people are probably disappointed
You know, we got to realize a lot of this stuff that we talked about originally was based on
The $7,500 tax credit being able to get a base slate for 19 and some change was sort of where everybody was at
I
Will go and say this I think slate has sat on this for far too long
I don't know if it's production issues or this was the plan all along
I think that's that's been a mistake
It can all be recovered if they do a good job, and I did see a video with a guy
is
The 24,000 the 20 roughly 25,000 does that include the destination charge? No
It's actually right here so 24 5 was a figure that was leaked slates base price
But there will also be a destination and delivery chart somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 possibly slightly. Yeah
I think they're getting into danger territory here. I really do I
That puts the base at just under 26 five
And now you're talking about you're really not that far from abrac
Yeah, and then so let's just continue the last two lines here the square back SUV adds another
5,000 the fastback SUV adds to where the expensive slate could start around 33 5
I
Don't I don't I don't I'll go I just don't think that's right. I don't it doesn't seem to be
The nature of what this was announced that and I realized that the political landscape has changed and things change and this and that
But essentially now you're talking about roughly a 30000 dollar vehicle instead of a 20000 and for everybody
That's new here. I always say this when you're when you're talking about being below a hundred grand
But especially below fifty that every every five to ten grand becomes a whole different class of vehicle
Yeah, right so not being anywhere near 20000 dollars, which is kind of what they they
We're talking about early on
This shows a real weakness and this business model that they're trying to chase that doesn't mean they can't have success
I mean, I don't know what they're how they're gonna market get you know mass appeal
You can change a lot of people's mind if you got the right way of going about getting people interested
The interest the interest has faded
From the beginning this is kind of what we've talked about in the entire car business has a big problem. It's like
Hey Mitsubishi, we're gonna bring back the Montero in
2031 it's like well that that just doesn't work in the modern economy
You know and I for everybody that thinks that I don't understand or you don't understand that they got to get all this
Manufacturing in place totally get it. I understand why these timelines are so far the issue becomes
That's not really what the economy does anymore. It's sort of like you get this quick hit of
You know buzz you've got to capitalize on it
And now my fear for Slade is they have completely botched the timeline here of being so long to get into
Production and so long to get sales going from that original launch and whether you believe it or not a lot of people
That would be interested are gonna remember you said $20,000
Yeah, you know and I don't know if this is the cynical side of me or just you know being on the internet too much
But I mentioned last week how I think they're just gonna shift subtly into something like the grenadier you mentioned the grenadier comparison
Which I thought was great, but people I've already heard of people one in our discord actually that for sure put the purer in
They want to buy it some people actually out in the real world outside of the internet that are gonna buy it
I think they're seeing you know where a little bit more the money is like you usually see they're gonna just price out people that
Maybe even gonna buy really at 1920-21
Now that this in the 30s like a specific person that wants that novel new kind of weird thing is gonna go for it
Yeah, and I wonder how much they're looking at the third vehicle crowd. Yeah, which we've talked about too
Yeah, I mean are you looking at the third vehicle crowd here where you're just like hey, you know
Guy kind of likes to do stuff around his house doesn't want to really buy a big truck
Doesn't need one doesn't tow stuff doesn't do any of that. He just wants something kind of low cost
you know
I get all that
I just don't think that was the play here. I'm not saying it won't work. Yeah, but it seems to me when you launch a car brand
We see all of them start to realize we need mass manufacturing to make this work
Right, right. We've seen Rivian
We've seen all of these companies that that kind of pop up and they go well, we'll just be in this niche
Well, magically they find out there's not enough money in that niche and they go we got to do more
We got to do a smaller SUV. We got to reduce the price. We got to sell to more people
We got to do all of these things. So the question I really have
And and I think I was more encouraged
That slate was going to bring something lower price to get other manufacturers to make a move
I'm not sure that's going to happen. But
In defensive slate, this is kind of Ford's whole
New manufacturing process that they unleash what a year ago or so again
50 years ahead of time
But Jim Farley is out there talking about
Cheaper cars cheaper trucks cheaper everything with this new sort of
Ecosystem that they're going to build out. Does it come to fruition?
And I also wonder in the u.s. market in particular
Are we just at a point where these guys can't figure out the under $30,000 marketplace if there is even one
Which is crazy because those are the people you would think they could figure it out
And then somebody like a slate could maybe capitalize on that because they're already a smaller operation as it is
Yeah, but
You know, you got to realize all the upstart cost at some point you want to recoup that sure, you know
I don't think people are especially on the corporate level anymore
Unless it's a tech product, which these these you know a truck is a physical thing, right?
I don't think people have the the wherewithal to go. We're going to wait 10 to 15 years to cash in
Yeah, and that that's that's kind of what I see here is it seems like they're trying to cash in now
Uh, I just don't know with with again you go to regulations to
What it is to employ people in the u.s. And all this kind of stuff are we just seeing slate basically put out to the world
as of 2026 early 27
We don't really know how to be substantially under the $30,000 price range. Yeah it so going back to the uh, let's put on our
We haven't done this in a while. Let's put on our tinfoil, you know beanie our clutch culture beanie
There's a place or a couple of places actually around the country
But one here in austin that's uh, basically creating like a new technical school type of ecosystem, right?
Where let's just use data centers as the example
They're they're basically building the uh, know how kind of like flow of how to build the infrastructure for those buildings
It's not the chips necessarily that you need right now
It's people to build the buildings where these chips are going to be inside, right?
So it's kind of sounds kind of weird
But when you have somebody like bank rolling slate we'll say
And they have these other big players whoever's helping like fund this and then create these brilliant minds
That are bringing these things to market will eventually just end up going to the bigger players that are going to be paying them more
Makes you wonder
Were they initially kind of bankrolled to to find these people to build these things to then actually go out and build the
Bigger things that are going to sell to more people. Yeah that that I mean like there was an announcement where uh,
I think it's semen's the big manufacturing company
Basically has like data center in a box now
where basic basically
Their whole idea is all of this pushback is happening, right?
Where if you let legislation get involved and people get involved then this is gonna a lot of it's going to get denied
But if we can buy the land and get the data center done in record time
There's no time to fight it, right, right?
So you see how quickly like you said smart minds go well the problem actually is if we wait for legislation
So how do we build a data center in a box?
So basically you can just put this thing together on site in a in a record amount of time, right?
I mean
In like you said, maybe this is the same thing with companies like slate
I mean lucid rivian all these kind of companies that have popped up
I still think one of the most interesting things around the ev conversation is why
essentially they keep hitting this price barrier
Because at scale
All of this stuff should have come down rapidly in pricing
Right, I mean I'm you and I use the flat screen tv thing
When you used to buy a big screen
It was expensive
As soon as they hit mass scale and the technology and everything now you can get an 80 inch at walmart for like 500 bucks
Bro, what do you think a 55 inch flat screen tv cost yesterday on prime prime day? Just just be like 300 bucks $150
Oh my god
For a 55 inch toshiba, you know, you would have to sold your right leg to get one just 10 15 years ago
When plasma would take like seven guys to hang that head in your room because it's so hot, you know
It is great. It was so much. I don't need one dude, but did I click it? I sure did
I was like, oh, it's like it's like this. Uh, so they make these tv's for outdoor
They like to be around your pool and they're still super expensive
And I remember looking at the guy who was mounting mine. He's like, well, you should got an outdoor
I said, buddy, they're like 300 dollars if this thing goes out every season. I'll have to I'll be 10 years before I get
The cost back on an outdoor tv
Like dude, I'm not I'll just take that off put the next one on I mean this this this stuff is now but
to your point
This is kind of uh, and I know there was some breakthrough on some solid state battery stuff
And I know elan's talking about using you know half as much copper and no rare earth minerals and
So advancements here, you know, I think everybody needs to kind of be like
You know number one advancement never happens as fast as we think
Yeah, you know, it's just like we had a joke you and I were on a uh business call this week
And people telling me about how great ai is rob didn't have internet connection
You know what I mean? We're how long into the internet and rob's like on his phone on cellular connection
And I go I mean I made the joke right in the meeting. I'm like, yeah
I mean ai's gonna take over the world still can't get solid wi-fi down there and
That might have been in human error from what I heard
Somebody told me it might have been a human error. So again robots need to take over. Yeah, so I think
We all need to cheer on things like slate for one simple reason
If they get everybody to move to the downside, it's a positive for the consumer
If you don't see it that way, you're not seeing the big picture, right? I don't care if it's ev or it's gas
That that debate is really not something worth having because whatever gets people to move to the downside
Is beneficial to the consumer. Yeah, the law is right now. We yeah, we we've we've had no move to the downside
I mean even as we see inventory stacking up
Although certain brands still can't produce certain things fast enough
uh
And and things are only lasting on the on the market a few days. Those are limited brands, right?
You know not all brands are having that problem. Many brands are just stacking up inventory
And still not moving to the downside
You know with with the carvanas and all of these players coming in we've seen nothing
But moving to the upside
So the thing you have to cheer on if you're a consumer trying to buy a vehicle is who's going to force everybody to the downside
and right now
It looks like slate is making the admission to me
That anything sub 30000 dollars is really tough to do
And I think a lot of people would find the interest in at the right price because we've said that a lot too
But there's a video that we put out maybe a couple days ago
And the the cover if you want to go see it because it actually popped off on all the all the things
Instagram Facebook for the first time in 17 months tick tock even youtube
Um where it's about you said an ev at the right price is basically it gets to a point where you just can't ignore it
And the the arguments or the conversations in that thread were
All around the battery the solid state versus when it goes out the cost of repair it
But what I noticed on all the platforms because they're vastly different people by the way
I think we all understand that every platform was a very different kind of viewer and commenter on there
They were much more
Leaning towards I would definitely actually look into it if I didn't have the fear of the cost of repairing a battery
It would be five times three times the cost of that cheap ev
And once that's figured out in the whatever you want to call it aftermarket, you know rechargeable kind of world
I think we're gonna not have a problem or as big of a problem convincing americans
Which is the biggest thing I think on the globe is that the evs are something that they want
Yeah, and and I think
People are right to say
Who's gonna hold the manufacturers responsible?
On that battery right because
It is a massive cost still today. We're in 2026 if you're listening to this in the future
But tesla kind of disproves that theory. I mean tesla has a lot of model s's from 2013 selling
That have very little battery degradation
I mean they have some obviously, you know, especially if you if you're
Getting one that's been put through the ringer and not charged properly that all is there
But there's a lot floating around out there
That people are buying and they're like, yeah, man the battery is still at 90 percent, you know 87 percent
I got news for you that that's as good as you can hope for yeah
I mean, how many of you have power tools? I had to replace like two milwaukee batteries that have hardly been used
You know what I mean like they really aren't in heavy use in my life
And i'm like wow these things just don't work anymore
And you got a car that was built in 2013 like ah, it's like 90 percent. It's like 87 percent
It's 85 percent and by the way, all that means is you have to charge more frequently
I mean on a on a minor scale. I understand the fear like don't get me wrong. I'd have the same fear
Okay, it's like how bad is this battery this and that
But you have things like the Prius hybrid system
Which has had batteries that largely has stood up pretty well
for
How long time long right now they do have
Replacements that happen. Don't get me wrong like that. They do have that but
They also have millions that have no issue
Right, so I think like you said we're getting to
Uh, you know sort of a breaking moment here
Where you go
Any kind of you know 10 20 30 jump in battery technology
used EVs are going to become
Really hard to ignore because if they start solving
Battery issues
There's no reason not to buy a used one the fear is there today
But what if things, you know change drastically in the next 36 months
You look at 2035 with a bunch of eight or nine year old EVs
And there's not hardly any problems with them and they still have massive
Depreciation you're going to get to a pretty crazy point. The crazy thing is it like in four to five years
Like they're not gonna have younger kids
But like let's just say in the next you know half a decade when they're like getting to permit driver's license ages
Then and all their friends
Are we just going to see high school parking lots filled with used EVs the way we saw like Cavaliers and neons and stuff
I mean, don't you think that I really do
I think that's almost inevitable and I didn't before for all the new listeners
I've gotten a lot of new messages about people that just found the show and that's great
So again, we're here for the hang, you know, usually we were railing again
I'm personally railing against the EVs and nicks more of the the moderate aristocrat that knows how to
Keep a level head. I'm just I'm I'm on the fence
Just just say it correctly before you start lobbing
I've always just been if they work for you buy them if you don't like them don't buy them
There's no reason to get this worked up
I will say one of the best comments. I got to pull it up. You even commented on a sob. What do you say?
This guy was hilarious
Something oh all the royalties paid to the aristocrat
For the insiders. I don't know nick claims that the only reason I got the uh the raptor was because of his
His touting of the awesomeness and that he was going to get one, but you know, he got the lx instead
There's only a partial truth to that as I've said he reinvigor'd my
In the gen one raptor and here we are and I said
Yeah, gentlemen would pay his respects. Is it getting paid? No, I mean, I'm not I'm getting zero royalties
You're getting all these views on the gen one raptor. I'm getting no money from it
I mean yet yet the the the overlords
If I was a true aristocrat, I'd be we'd be in court. I'd be like, hey
This is a civil matter. I need you to take this a civil court
Oh god, that's funny
Shout out to that gentleman. He that was some real inside baseball
It's funny now when you to the point that people are making these inside jokes of a show that most people in that thread
Probably haven't listened to yet. You're you know ball as they say. Yeah, absolutely
Uh going back real quick to another email
Hey, uh long time fan my boy from the uk
Yeah, okay
Shout out. By the way, there's a hyper clean uk out there. They can reach out to right? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah
So if you need your products hyper clean uk
So I've been watching for a while curious what nick and rob think about the motorists or the war on motorists in the uk
Can't promise you we're gonna have a lot to say this but we'll see things like the ulez
15-minute cities in high road tax. There's a pushback against these policies groups cutting down these or vandalizing these cameras
And if you think my car is bitching which by the way, that's also why I wanted to bring it up
Let's see if nick is a fan of where are we at here? Boom. This is like a gen three
Yeah, that looks real good. Sweet, right? It looks really good. Very bitching. So thanks harry for the email
Uh, yeah, our brethren down down over yonder are having some issues with emissions, man
Like they're really cracking down. Not really your brethren. Well, yeah in spirit more more more my brethren in spirit, maybe
If they didn't see me and only hurt me
Uh
Uh
There's no question
that
I think all of europe has taken a very strange
Government position on all of this. Yeah, first of all, we've seen a lot of the manufacturers from europe just completely decimated
By the european union as a whole which I think is strange
you know like
Germany decimating german manufacturers that just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me
It's now coming to drivers. There's all kinds of taxes being put on
Uh, yeah, like you're not driving the things that they basically so ulec ultra low emission zone. I think is what it is
I mean
When you visit
The last time I was I was overseas across the pond as my folks say
I am your folks and that's what I said
I was in scotland
And one of the coolest things to me
I think you and I were friends at this time early. I think it was early on a big early on is
How many cool
small
vehicles
Yeah, that you just see and by the way
How many older vehicles you see a lot of older vehicles, you know what I mean?
That is actually what you want you don't want these things
destroyed
Going into the environment through car crushing and all that kind of stuff. Yep. You really want what
sort of europe has which is
People adopt new platforms right the newer cars
But they also keep their cars running and you know, there's no new manufacturing being done for that customer and all the things
That go on environmentally for that new minerals new
all you know all the stuff that happens
and
To just kind of start decimating that culture is stupid to me. Yeah
Because that is the coolest thing going over there. It's like I've had some buddies visit cuba
And they're like dude all of the old vehicles over here
Is unbelievable to see right
and largely
You look at this kind of stuff and we're losing all of these little places around the world
This is not in support of any of these places just so anybody doesn't you know get crazy with what
We understand why they have the older vehicles. Yeah, we understand. We're talking about just the cars not the governance. Yeah. Yeah
I'm not a political commentator
uh
I don't really know what they're trying to accomplish except
Decimating everything. Yeah, cube's not worried about their environment. Let's be real right. That's not why they're
Yeah, like I don't understand europe at all
I don't understand what they're doing and I know guys like uh harry's garage are much more up on this kind of stuff
He's one of my favorite youtube channels where anybody hasn't watched him
Long story career. Uh, I think comes out everything from a very interesting point of view
We obviously know he has relationships with manufacturers. So relax. Okay
Gets a lot of new vehicles
but
I think you're getting you know with vat tax and everything that goes on
You're getting to this point where it's just getting untenable. Yeah, and I don't think it's it's just pushback anymore
I think it's just like this this is now getting to the point where nothing can happen
Yeah, where do you play at that point? Well, not only that you've seen the gdp of of all of europe
Just continue to trend downward
And they just keep going further into this nonsense
And you go dude
It it you're not really solving anything and I think when when when you get to this place where
Nothing is being solved. That's the worst kind of government
Intervention for sure like that that that is the definition for somebody like me
I'm not I understand roles of governments around the world. You you understand that. Yeah
The thing is when you can't really make sense of what's happening in the automotive world
Especially because you're decimating jobs. You're decimating manufacturing facilities
You're doing all these kind of things on top of hurting the consumer. I think it's really crazy
Yeah, and uh, it like I said earlier like where do you go play at that point because it just makes it so hard for them
To just operate as a business like in general like you just not want them to produce anymore
You want to completely have no manufacturing? Well, and that's that's the real argument of why you're seeing some of the decisions like amg gt
And people saying hey, this is all a chinese play like look man. You're you're not 100% wrong
It's still not going to move the needle for them
But if they can develop these things inside of china and do that kind of stuff and manufacture some stuff there
Then they're they're making the play that's much bigger than just a car
Right. They're making a government play of how do I get production out of here? I think that's it's just silly government policy over and over again
Yeah, so shout out harry over in uk saying that in by the way. I'm sure you follow uh, not nick, but harry
What's his name?
Tommy robinson so if you want to send me a message about what's going on the uk
I'd love to know because it seems like a real wild place these days no matter we're talking about cars or culture
life in general it's very
Some might say it's the strangest
The strangest, but yeah shoot me a dm
Good luck to you sir 15 minute cities the whole thing. I I can't keep on my
Tin foil beanie the whole episode or nick will just lose it. So yeah, I'm not I got real things to do
Don't listen to you see don't listen to the aristocrat harry. I'm here for you. you my guy
I'll drive the raptor over there somehow and then we'll figure it out
Somebody said are you making a doomsday vehicle out of it? I go not necessarily, but I know nick wants to do that with the lx
I might you know if enough people
Rally behind the show we can make both of them, you know
Doomsday buggies and then meet up somewhere in the desert and do whatever dudes do in the desert
Yeah, whatever you do. No, whatever. Yeah, nothing to be weird
Whatever you do in the desert these days or whatever you do at Coachella if you guys still go to that
Hey, that's a real west coast vibe. Yeah
Um, all right, let's see. Oh speaking of actually before I get to another story
How's the lx holding up after going under the knife?
perfectly, yeah perfectly I'm
I will say this
Do as I say not as I do
I made a mistake with this vehicle
I didn't make a complete mistake
but it should have just gone under the knife from day one and uh, I'm
It's amazing when you have a platform that you like and you just get the work done
And you just kind of have that piece about it and go, okay, you know, I've kind of addressed some things here
Uh, so yeah, man, it's it's been awesome. Um
any
Immediate plans this summer that you want to do even if it's like small with it like something
That's just like a personal like little thing that the car has that you want. Yeah, I mean, I'm still I'm still
Really fascinated. So I have a crack in my front grille. It's a very minor thing, but it's annoying
And I keep looking at these aftermarket grills
and
They just don't speak to me
Hmm
Hate that you're looking at all the options and none of them. And so now I'm on ebay like looking for
You know a non-cracked lx
You know original oem
You know grille, which I don't really want to do. I don't mind the grille
I don't really want to do that though. I would like to do something aftermarket, but
They're pretty ugly dude. Yeah, like they're pretty ugly. They're they're they're plastic and they're sort of in that trd
You know, they basically are trying to trd your your your older vehicle not against it
Just doesn't kind of look right to me
I don't have any information but explain to us what would like what are you trying to aim for?
Because I know you like the sophisticated clean look of things, right? Yeah, I kind of wish it was just
a less busy
OEM grille
I kind of wish it was just more like I could get like
gunmetal gray
And I and I realized I could go to a powder coder and just take an oem non-cracked grille and do that
But I would like to see just sort of less lines
You know, it's just got one too many lines in there
But I probably will go and just to test it out with one of these aftermarkets to see
You know how it looks. It's not a huge expense. So I'm not really worried about that
I just wish it was a little cleaner if you powder coated yours. You probably wouldn't even be able to see the crack, huh?
You'd be able to see it. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, no, it's it's it'd be a two-step process
Find find find one that's not cracked and then get it to a powder coder. That could be the route
I I just think for me I wish
Not everything has to be
Modern to sell it to people and this is kind of what we saw at SEMA when I told you I was walking around talking to some of these off-road companies
It just sucks. They all do the same thing
Literally literally
Now for a behind the scenes of why they all do the same thing
Is because none of them or very few of them actually produce anything
So they're at the mercy of what's being produced in china or whatever
I get it. I'm not, you know, I'm not against that but it doesn't there's not a lot of variants
You know what I mean? Like even an aftermarket bumpers aftermarket, you know, uh, you know
Tire holders aftermarket everything it's just like it all looks the same
And if you don't like in some cases like the grill situation if you don't like that busier
plastic type of of modern look you don't really have a ton of options because obviously
It's being produced by probably one place
Maybe two
And they're just gonna do what everybody, you know says. Ah, yeah, I'm good with that. Let's get it over here
This is the perfect. All right. I'm in a mental note here 38 minutes 37 minutes of this episode
That's because that's kind of how when you first got the lx
And way before obviously I had the raptor that the goal was to find these people that are
Doing the unique creative interesting things in the us making fabricating stuff whatever it is
And one it was either hard to get in touch with them because let's just say they were super busy
And they weren't good about responding to people for collaborations or two
They had been burned in the past which we haven't talked about this in a while
And they just really didn't have that much of an interest to collaborate with people
So one of the cornerstones of what this little hub of clutch culture in the audience is for me personally and probably for
Nick without having to speak for him is to get those people
To just share their stuff with us so that they could find the audience who actually wants to buy their stuff
Because we know they're struggling. I've talked to several of these people
And they're just trying to hustle to get things done to sell enough and get enough out the shop door
So that they can just keep the shop open and make more of those things
And it's it's it's crazy because they are so
Not all of them, but a lot of them are so
Just a verse
At to doing any kind of collaborations that I don't know
Maybe if enough of you guys
Tag people in our comments and stuff be like this people
You know these people are doing cool things or these people would great to collaborate with that are here in the u.s
Like let us know because
So we'll say it this way part of the collaboration
That we are trying to offer people to be very upfront
Is telling a story
You know, which is like to go to their facility and you know show who they are and because otherwise
You guys are just seeing me stick something on our car. Yeah
You know what I mean? Like that's not all that interesting
You know, we already have a project done with the lx
And even that was hard to get the proper things filmed because there wasn't an understanding of hey
We kind of need to clear out. We need to tell a story
We need to do all of these things that was hard to do
But and so what we want to do for all of you because have questions we get them all the time
Should I do this? What about this exhaust is well if we
Went with that exhaust company and we could actually experience their facility and experience what they're doing and tell a story
You could make a more educated decision and say hey, it looks like there's good people behind this
Look, they're doing this in the u.s
They're and and I will say is very difficult to find people doing stuff in the u.s
Yeah, and or like you'll be in uh in next shoes where you just can't find something that speaks to you
Right, like you're right. It's just not popping up. You're not finding it
It's not ai is not just spitting out like these independent shops across the country that are fabricating things for your vehicle
And it's a tough business. I will tell everybody, you know being in the aftermarket of cars for as long as I have
You've got to go where the money is, you know
What we saw from a lot of these off-road companies at sima when I talked to them
They're like man, we love that platform the hundred series platform. We'd love to do something but
Tacoma forerunner bronco
That's what you know, that's what we pay that that's the only way to pay our bills
Yeah, and so essentially it's always, you know jeep gladiator jeep wrangler bronco
Tacoma forerunner in a crazy part is
A lot of these companies don't build anything for the new land cruiser like now
I'm not talking about the 250, but I'm talking about the 200 series which you know was around for a long time
They don't even build anything for that
You know, they just don't
It's funny you say that
Just this morning. I got a text from somebody who recently found the show and has been binging it all the way from episode one to now
That's awesome
They said I verbatim god. Let me find this real quick. Um, I'm on episode 11 now
Nick really sure does talk about the land cruiser a lot laughing emoji and I was like, oh those early episodes
We had a lot of super controversial takes about the land cruiser back in 2024
So nonetheless, it's people are still finding it anew and enjoying it. Yeah, that's awesome
By the way, any has your mind changed on that at all?
On what just that prado, you know, there's this new land cruiser that's in no, I wouldn't I would never
Priced differently
You would have had a different vehicle. You would have had a different. Yeah, everything is in
And this is where people get
Really lost in the weeds of somebody's opinion
The fact that
Everything was priced so closely together
From Tacoma to forerunner to this new land cruiser
to
You know, all these different things that's where the land cruiser didn't make any sense
You brought in a lesser land cruiser, which is fine. I wouldn't have done it
They did it
And then they go, oh
You can go get a gx 550 for around the same price
That's like it didn't make sense. No, and it would have been as if bronco would have released the bronco sport as the bronco
And never made the actual bronco. Yeah, you would have lost their mind
Yeah, and said by the way, this is going to be 62 thousand dollars. Exactly. It's like, no, no, this doesn't make sense
and by the way
A four cylinder that when they released it
They had a six cylinder going into the gx 550 for a little bit above the price
Didn't make sense
That is the the the nature of the conversation. It's not. I mean, obviously
The american land cruiser situation
They abandoned because they wanted people to buy sequoia or the the the lx or whatever
All made sense then out of the blue they bring it back and they do it
Pretty horribly bad bad engine bad this bad that I mean
Kamisa called it the worst four cylinder on the market. Yeah, and he's
Still one of the most independent type of thinkers in the automotive world in my opinion
And I couldn't agree more like if you heard these things going by you, which I did
We were at this little outdoor place and one of the first ones I saw it sound like a lawnmower
I'm like
With a land cruiser badge
Now again, I know what land cruiser is overseas. It's different, right? You got diesel options and all these types of things
I'm cool with that
The way they reintroduced it here in america made no sense
price wise engine wise
Everything they had built
That was the only reason it was ever even a topic of conversation
It wasn't really that we cared all that much about it. It's just like this is a really strange
manufacturer decision
Did you put it neutral and just give him a couple revs or
He was driving by me and I'm like
I don't know man. That's not
That's not that's not it man
Well, hey speaking of something that's coming back, you know, we're seeing a lot of this from a lot of different makers
Honda had a big announcement earlier this week and that is that they're going to be bringing back the element
and hybrid version in 2029
What was your thoughts about these in a moment? I'm not going to lie to you. I like them
Yeah, it was just kind of one of 11 of those like weird
Uh platforms that I think you were just kind of I was agnostic about I was like, yeah, okay
It's something well when these popped off you were already in your Ferrari phase like why would you look?
You're not gonna be looking at these wow everybody that's new to the show rob is trying to paint a picture
That's absolutely no no no you've painted the picture yourself and it's over your shoulder, okay
Yeah, I don't have a picture of a Honda element over my shoulder got you
Because a lot of you have the magazine covers from the Honda element launch
I would I would ask this
Why
Why kind of go
Backwards and not more into off-road if you're gonna go
backwards
Okay, you know what I mean? Like this is I'm not against this but I I think where they're lacking is they have very little off-road presence
And we were just talking about that with the ridgeline. Yeah, like why did they never take the next step?
Uh and develop a new platform
I just kind of look at this and I go. I mean they have what crv
HRv
They already have like sort of this market covered. I'm not against them bringing it back
but
You guys are not in in competing in the off-road market and and what was it called trail sport?
Yeah, not to mention the pilot trail trail sport is an incredible off-roader. Yeah, so I just thought they'd go further into that
But I guess not
I mean, I guess they're just like let's revitalize the Honda element such a deep thought and then just like I just guess not
Well, fuck me, right? Like I mean
But this is kind of
I think this is this is part of what's hurt the Acura brand
is sort of no risk taking
I guess staying in your lane while you're selling very little. I don't understand staying in your lane and not selling a ton of vehicles
I think the same goes for the Honda brand is
You guys need to be in the off-road segment
I just don't wouldn't put a lot of energy into element when I have so many platforms to kind of fit that
I have a feeling Honda pro Jason who follows this show will uh, we'll see this and give us some input because he is like the
Honda guy, right? The yeah, I like I like his stuff. He's very good and very thorough. He's the you know, number one
Honda, you know, uh
Guru I guess about all the models and I like when he just tells you all these weird things about how stuff works in the car
Yeah, I would have never guessed that never would have I mean I'm finding things out from a truck
I've had for three months and I'm like, why didn't I I could easily find a video like what are some cool things in here?
But no
Is that you that most of the time when you get something new like you don't like I haven't even experienced the full like
Dash of like the gti and I've had that for five years. You know, yeah, I'm pretty bad about it. Yeah
I'm very I'm very bad about just like oh look what I found six years later. Yeah, I told you that about the folding mirrors
Just a couple weeks ago. Like I didn't even know that they folded on their own. That's awesome
Yeah, no, I I I'm guilty of that. I mean
I have night vision. So
I just turn a night vision on I just turn it on in the middle of the day now like boop
Bro, I don't even have regular vision. I I'm lucky to just not hit shit when I'm driving, especially how wide that thing is
Um, here's a really interesting story
We have a few of them as we're landing the plane on the back half of the show back quarter of the show
We talked about the chief marketing officer last week from Ferrari that was going on this media tour, right?
Wait a minute
He was going on the media tour saying how they weren't forcing clients to buy the luce to get access to other cars
And what did I say rob for all those listening for the you made some very good points on videos?
That will get a lot of attention of how it actually works because you have a lot of firsthand experience
Well now fast forward another five days. He's no longer there now depending on what articles you read
It says Ferrari let go fired
Mr. I forgot his name. I have it right here. It's uh, Enrico Gallera
And then you have others I don't have a clue and then he has you have other articles saying that he stepped down
So whatever you want to believe we're just giving you both sides of what the articles say
But I just wonder by the way, is there any difference between being forced to step down and being fired?
It depends who you are because I'm sure if you ask him there's a huge difference like hey
I made a good launch and they just don't know what they had
We we said this at the time is along with I think 99.9 percent of others
This was a black eye
For a variety of reasons. It's a black eye on the design team from iphone
Uh, whatever their names are
Uh, I don't even think it's worth knowing their names personally
Uh, Johnny something. Yeah, who cares as well. It should be
Uh
So you got you got those guys that got a black, uh, you know got a black stain under reputation
This guy
It feels like he wasn't forced to go out and talk which is what might have got him clipped
I don't think the corporation was like, hey go do damage control because it seemed kind of
Out of character for what Ferrari would do. He has a very half-assed meaning
Because he said a lot of half-assed things. Yeah
And they're like, what do you mean? We don't force people to buy things. Have you seen the roma sales?
Have you seen for the california sales? We absolutely force people to buy stuff
What why'd you say that did they have the actual direct lines from clients of ours?
Why would you say that our clients didn't say that our clients said that?
I mean so you get clipped and
For anybody and I know there was a very tiny percentage that was trying to defend this whole launch
when somebody
Really deeply involved
Not from design, but from launching this gets clipped in a week or two
They know it's a disaster
Because what you'd want to do in corporate speak is just bury him on the bench
And then like a year down the road get get rid of them, right? You wouldn't want this to be out there
You know two to three weeks after this disaster of a launch like you got to think of it from the corporate world
They they're all about you know
Controlling the narrative and you know don't want to draw any you know red flags to the situation
He was so bad. They were like clipped on a tuesday
Dude, you can imagine jaguar kept that marketing team on longer than
Great point. You know if you get clipped faster than the jaguar team
Things aren't good. Something is really wrong. Yeah, which you know, by the way, I don't know how many more heads are gonna roll
That you're not gonna know about. Yeah, I think we talked we said that at the beginning
That's kind of the more my mind goes initially when these things happen. It's like they're trying to clear house
They they want any excuse to clear house. Yep. Yeah, and that that's why you see so many companies using the ai excuse
It's like well ai let's clip 40 000 people. It's like I've used ai you can't clip 40 000 people because of ai
Can you imagine how happy jp morgan was when they that chick
Still stole that trash can and dumped and then fired the next day like oh executive of dei. Whatever get out of here
Yeah, like they buddy when they are over bloated. They're looking for any excuse. Yeah to start clipping bodies
Did you just make a tuna sandwich in the get out of here?
You made tuna in the kitchen. Yeah, you brought who warmed up salmon in the microwave. See you
Oh, dude tilapia. Are you joking? I don't care if you're on a prep
Dude, I remember those days man like brutal you eat them cold eat the eat the tilapia cold if you're gonna be on contest prep
Right and by the way go into a corner somewhere away from people. Yeah, we're only you can smell your farts. All right
She is brutal
Horrible eggs in the office. Oh, dude. Oh, yeah, that's that's a that's a brutal one. Oh, um horrible. Whoops my bad
wow
Hey, man, you're making me laugh. All right, I take it as a compliment
Jamie wouldn't turn the camera off. I can tell you that I'm about to turn your camera off
And your mic and that concludes this week's show
So speaking of that's the rob minute. That's right. Now. I can do another hour for you. Don't think I can't
I'll do a whole solid hour upon myself. You'd be like, what about these ufo's?
Dude, hey, you don't think people people are yearning for me to talk about
Full circle professional right there
Listen, I got it pulled up if you're watching jaguar type o1, which what a stupid name that they stuck with
Um, they have an official debut date, by the way, if you didn't know in october at new york in new york
What a cool rap that is by far the coolest rap. I don't know what you're saying. What is what are people doing? Uh
This will be a dud
Let's call it what it is. It's been a dud from the beginning
And I just can't imagine many of you are that
Worried about what jaguar does the funniest part is we started watching this show
And don't tell me they have one in the show. Oh, they don't have one of these. Okay. They have
Some some some jaguar
sedans that these spies are being driven around on and I look over and I go that way mo they don't even build cars anymore
Your wife's like, what do you mean? I'm like, yeah, just don't build them
So I don't know where they got this one for this, you know high-end spy
You couldn't get a new escalator a new suburban. You just went with a jaguar that doesn't exist anymore. That's so funny
Yeah, I mean, that's that that's deep baseball right there. Yeah, it is dude
I mean, we kind of owe this car a little bit of credit
It was the first big debacle story, you know, whatever you want to call it that we talked about on the show in december of 2024
Um, had it not been for that big pink tube of lipstick, you know, who knows
Where that initial where would we be? Yeah, you know
Who knows if they hadn't built a candy narrow from the simpsons where we would be
And where that first initial fiery dump if you knew the show was the first three episodes that we dropped all at once on December 1st
You know, what's hilarious is watching people defend this now because it's it's now been in the ether so long
You can kind of be
Progressive and be like well, you know what you don't understand. Oh, right, right
A car manufacturer has ceased to manufacture cars for years now
There's no way to spend this
None. I don't even care what the car. I don't even care what the car looks like. Do you
Who cares what the car and the launch they stop they ceased to exist
There's no way to spin the jaguar story
None
You don't know these people's capabilities
They will spin this into the most
Enthralling articles that they have ever written in their lives. It's it's it's horrible. And by the way that rap
Is just another bad decision. Yeah, I mean
I'm just gonna what do the kids say these days and it makes me want to pull
What is it? Oh, it's giving it's giving when somebody says it's giving
I'm like, oh, I just want to put a pencil in my like john wick style through my
People that have have heard me on other podcasts. I had this
Coach once upon a time when you made a mistake. He would say you make me want to climb a clock tower with a rifle
God that is as Ohio as it gets buddy. He was ruthless
You'd make a mistake. He'd be like that makes me want to climb a clock tower with a rifle. What the
Dude, it was all time
This is so random, but I was watching an old clip might have been of hard knocks where it was
I think the browns coach real big guy with the mustache and he's dealing like hut in his belly. He's just kind of like hut
Oh, yeah, what was that dude's name? I forgot what his name was
But he was saying some just like basic stuff about like not doing too much
Like I don't know what it was dude. Like hey, dude, those old football coaches had all the lines. Yeah
Yeah, yeah, I mean you want water like what do you want water for get back in me 20 more
You know like hey forever for everybody. It's a little older like being able to walk to that garden hose, you know
water horse
And they be like you're not getting water right now
It's like if you did that today people like you know people died because of that. Let's just get some water dog calm down
It's high school football
I don't know how about you in ohio, but in texas. You don't just say it's just football. All right
Well, look, I mean we play high school games at the hall of fame. Let's let's relax texas. Okay. Let's relax
Okay, that's all relax. I get it. You guys you guys built some some cathedrals
Okay, we got the hall of fame slow down that we play high school games. Hey guys here's voice here's voice. All right
It just went this is when real
Very serious. Yeah, relax texas. Okay
Not a quiver in that sentence half of those high schools are in places. No one wants to live
So let's all calm down and yet they're moving there and yet they're moving there
It's it's 800 degrees with 100 humidity bro. I don't even want to show I for the first time
I'm peeling up here because I was out with the kids
Oh, dude, I've never gotten this tan in my life
well
We got to say it. I'm trying to keep it in moderation. So I'm you you
If you can't clean and you can't do landscaping and you peel from the sun
How mexican are you? I spent too much. I already spent I paid my dues. dues
I've been outside way too long. You're doing that says you trying to be more white. I mean
You know now you're peeling from the sun. So maybe I had breakfast with sammy. All right
So we're talking about some business things and what do you want me to do? He can hey, let me let me tell you something
Much easier to peel these days
Like you get out you get outside for like the wrong two hours. You're just like what the hell happened, dude
I saw some people from I think it was australia. They were just going for a bike ride by the time they got done with their hour bike ride
They literally their skin was just peeling off of their legs
What's going on? There's this dude, uh
His dad always cooks food and it don't burn the burgers. You ever seen those guys? Yes. Yes. Yes
Did you see what happened to one of his sons? No, dude. He got sun poisoning. Oh, shit. How dude
It was like people were in the no, no
No, he was out like he did some beach day or whatever and people were in the comments like i'm an icu nurse
You need to get to the hospital. Oh dang. Yeah, but that I love that family that that dad makes me crack up
Like and by the way, they get all kinds of traction on facebook
We gotta talk to them dude for real. Well, maybe now that we've gotten some we'll just continue to maintain our uh, our progression
Yeah, no, I love that that dad looks like he's always cooking for an army and he's like it's just me and my wife and they got like
42 steaks. I'm like, this is awesome
So funny
By the way earlier when we were talking about Toyota and the land cruiser and all their other things
One thing they can do apparently really well is rafor, which we've talked about but I just saw an article
And I didn't have it pulled up. They have such a shortage of them like a crucial shortage is like on the lots
They can't make them fast enough. They're selling them way faster than they can produce them
Maybe spin that formula into something else that land cruiser can kind of lean on. I don't know
Well, the other thing is you can't get a sienna
I didn't yeah, you're right. You can't get a sienna. I mean highlander's been critical shortage for
Since 2021
Mm-hmm
I don't I don't really know what they're struggling with
Now that Toyota did have a lot of suspicious quote-unquote fires in the last five years at different production plants
Speaking of tinfoil hat. These are suspicious fires
Uh, but I will say this they have
Critical shortage on like what three or four vehicles. Yeah
You gotta give them credit. They just got people bought like people are just like, yeah, we'll wait
Either that or they have the ultimate marketing department
It's just making it constantly seem like they have not enough of what you want to buy
But the problem is you can't get them so that I don't even think it's marketing. Yeah, that's true
Imagine if the dealer's in on it, too
Like hey, we're gonna let you buy this but in about six weeks. We're like six weeks back on everything you want to buy
But isn't some of it like
Three to six months. Yeah, it's months like six months
Well, that's kind of like the rx thing. They've just been selling rx since I was a kid seems like like rx has just been flying off the shelf
For 20 years. Oh, are we talking? What is that? Lexus? Lexus. Yeah, that rx member. I mean, come on, dude
Don't act like that's aristocrat talk
I mean, I kind of who buys an rx
I'm just getting millions of people. I know I almost got sold on an rx before we got the mazda
But when I called back, he's like sorry, it's sold. I'm like, why'd you try to sell me on it?
Yeah, because he was like because he's done this who first come first serve
I told you I was an hour away and you're like, yeah, okay, and then I call him back. We're on our way. Sorry. It's all like
All right, I'm never calling these deals should have called SpaceX got there quicker. Fuck that guy
Oh, it's old you just called me. I'm still annoyed by that. Yeah, not me. Good for him
Waste no time for any little any little
What do we tell people? What do we tell people? We're here to hang out and bust balls. Yeah
Yeah, that's ultimately basically what we're doing here and I called rob a white guy on the podcast this week
So we might get canceled
Well, it's no worse than whatever Asian joke. I made it like six months ago that somebody won't let go
It's like relax, bud. Yeah, relax
Or although if you want to give me the Shane Gillis treatment, I'll I'll take it on the chin
Hey tires is coming back dude
Did you finish season one of tires? Yeah. Oh, I've seen all of them. Okay. I need to go back
For some reason I just didn't finish the season, but it was great. I thought you were a come a comedy guy
Well, I I'm a english speaker. That's for sure despite me being brown
All right, it's my second language and I'm still good at it
Some would say some would say
I got one right here that I'm sure you're gonna have a lot of input real quick before we
We officially land the plan. This is one of those vehicles that I didn't know
Or I mean it was going to be popular but the the Lamborghini urus
Right mysterious new urus to be revealed on july 1st
These are awesome. But let me just say I feel like it's like a Hertz rena car at this point. They are everywhere
Which is a great thing
but Lamborghini Lamborghini he sort of
Nailed their client with these boy boy every nil. You know kid also wants one of these and it's not okay
It's an urus. That's for the higher nil guys. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah guys get Johnny money's of the world getting five mil
I mean what is really left to say about
Urus
Because I know people get really pissed when you don't pronounce things
In the language you don't speak but
This has always been done well from the very jump like they just nailed their client
Period
I think at this point it'd be more surprising if they didn't keep doing well
Yeah, that's true
Right like I just I can't believe I think anybody that's been around no one knew how these
Brands like Lamborghini, etc. We're gonna do these SUVs and Lamborghini for their crowd
Whether you like it or not because you're probably not a buyer
Their crowd
Absolutely loves these things. Yeah, I think that's one of the litmus test for me
Is like if the urus was doing poorly then like the world's really in trouble
Like if these aren't selling the way they've been selling we might have a problem
Well, do you see the numbers from prime day? I didn't actually I'm it's so funny you mentioned that usually I do know that kind of stuff
nearing down 20%
Yeah, I'll tell you what I didn't open. I've been open amazon in like two weeks
Maybe maybe a month. Yeah, I
I feel like my wife on the other hand. Yeah. Yeah, that's yeah, that's a whole different thing
I don't really have a ton of stuff to buy on amazon anymore. I don't
I just don't know
What i'm supposed to be doing on there and every time I get on there. It's like a lot of stuff
I thought you were about to finish the sentence. I don't know what i'm supposed to be doing anymore
Just like a
I don't know I kind of done it all. Yeah, I don't I don't really know the only thing
Recently that's that's interesting is I went and looked at a macbook pro because I got an upgrade
Just time got my decade out of it or whatever how long I ever I had in mind
So I'm like, hey, I got to get a new one when you go through apple
It's a price. Yes, let's just use a price of like 3800 bucks
Mm-hmm
You go to that same thing through apple on amazon and it's like 2600 dollars
And i'm like it's sold by apple
What what is going on here until you see it? It's like sold by amazon. So it's actually not yeah, but here's the deal
Sold by amazon essentially the same the same level of confidence, right? Yeah, but this one was literally through the apple store
Same thing same thing. I couldn't believe it. I'm
I that's why I paused because I'm like there's got to be a difference
So I had to go I'd have the two screens up. Gemini. Tell me the difference between these two
And it's like this thing is just wasting more of my time. I just need a goddamn laptop
So yeah, it's it's amazon's one of those things for me
I'm I'm actually using it less than ever as well
And it's been I've been on a downward trend for a few years
And I've been hearing a lot of people make content around
Uh, whatever the you know, it could be a generational thing or just a economical thing people are moving towards the
What it's what do you call it like live events the experiential
Stuff and the experiential side of how they spend their time how they spend their money
And when I read stuff like that or I watch like it makes sense
I think you and I've been talking for years now about all kinds of stuff
Whether it's business related or just consumer related and between you saying how tapped out people are which is very true
And then just kind of how
Fed up almost with like the it's I say mundane, but we've all just kind of you work
You're online you work you're online and then you're like I don't want to be online anymore
I barely want to work. I definitely don't want to be online unless you have something
You're really trying to just consume or you're enthralled by most people are just kind of checking out of that like the online ecosystem
Well, you and I have
Actually talked about you know, even things like Joe Rogan, you know seeing seeing a dip where it's like now people are only
Like tim Dillon was on this week. Yeah, I might catch that episode for sure
But there's also like another 10 episodes. I'm not I'm like, I'm not not gonna not gonna do that
And it's not because anybody did anything wrong. It's just like you just said I'm just sort of tapped out
I'm like, man, it's
I can only listen to so much stuff. Yeah, you know, I can only do so many things
But the one thing I wonder has hit amazon
And I know people are
Really if you're in the comments
I loved this dynamic pricing
where
They're constantly selling things for more and less but the same product. I wonder how much of an effect that's just pissed people off
Yeah, because a lot of people are making that content as well
And it's coming from like tickets like airline tickets and hotel tickets amazon itself
It's true
I tell you what I got to travel across the country here in a couple weeks. Boy, they're giving you no
Benefit on those airline tickets anymore. No, like they're they're hitting you bud. You're you're you're going to pay
You are going to pay. This is going to be the price and this is what you're going to pay
And I heard somebody made it made a funny video may have been somebody like tim dillon. It's like
Yeah, we should just make flying less of an option. So just make it more expensive
So we we can get these people away from me. Are you ever hear the tim? I think it was tim dillon that did it
it's like buddy, they're they're inching towards that and uh, there's absolutely nothing
Nothing any of us can do but I think the amazon conversation is interesting is like
Household spending was down 20 on prime day 16 to 20 percent
And how much of that is tapped out and how much of it is?
I don't think that platform has evolved
You go on that like if you go on the app on your phone or you do it on a on a laptop or desktop
There is so much shit on that homepage. Yeah, that doesn't pertain to you
And it's like again, I'm hearing about all this ai stuff and I go
Why do I have all this shit? I wouldn't buy on the front page when I log in it has nothing to do with anything I've ever bought
Do you think that
I because I think about that sometimes too
But I never thought about like a platform of volume because it seems like if you really want to find stuff
You're kind of used to it like, you know where your home is my recent orders and my returns or whatever
But you do get just way too much too many results and too many related results
And now they're like you can get into this weird thing with amazon where you look something up over here
Whether on any search engine whether it's chat gbt whatever
Uh google you punch it in you click the amazon link and then it gives you a full ai
Like one page thing about have you had that happen yet? No, no, and I'm like
Is this amazon like an ai overview of what you're searching for? Yeah of the product. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah
I don't have it happen every time, but I've had it happen several times where I'm like
Yeah, I'm out it just started typing like and I'm like click I'm done
I don't even know what I was looking for but I'm out
Let me ask you this when you google something if you still for you people that still use the googs
Um, do you watch or read rather the whatever analyzed?
You know ai thing that it gives you or do you skip down to like an actual
story video?
I'd say probably like 20 I read and the other things I'm like, I know what I I'm searching for dude
Let's let's go. So I don't know how helpful it is at this point and the infancy of all this
I'm sure it'll get more helpful the other thing about ai results that I found is
if you're looking for
Let's call it the best of something like you're you're ready to spend money on xyz and you know like hey
I've already been down the rabbit hole a little bit and you think you gave it a good prompt
And then it brings you up the first three results and the ai overview and you're like bud
I made it clear. I didn't even want these and the results
Like so it seems like very off-putting at times, but probably 20 of time I read that
So you're already ignoring me. You're new to the world. You know ai you're already turning into my life
How dare you you're already turning into my spouse ignoring what I'm asking you to do
Yeah, no, it's it's we are in a weird time and I think amazon's like a real
real litmus test of
deals aren't enough anymore man
That I mean to see 20 like you said 20 percent down 16 to 20 percent down in household spending
You know, I never really understood the prime days to begin with
I I just didn't really
You know
And I wonder how many people are starting to put together
How many middlemen are on amazon amazon's basically a middleman platform for the most part
And then you know in my world that whole supplement scandal they had where they found it
They were selling all these fake supplements. It's like there's just a lot not sitting right. Yeah. Yeah, and it's hard for people to like
I don't know swallow that because a lot of people have been buying these things for so long that they
Yeah, don't even want to look back and be like I've been kind of duped for how long what am I been ingesting or buying or
applying there was a
A creatin brand a creatine brand that that came out and they were doing all kinds of advertising
And so there was a special on amazon. I'm a 345 months ago
Good flavors things like that I started taking and I'm like
Something's not right
I just know something's not right
So then I went and got it from the stuff that I know now this creatine brand says it's all being tested
And we have athletes using it and all that's cool
The minute I go back on
the high stuff high
Higher cost stuff through
I use thorn. I don't know who that's a great brand
I go to thorn
I get it from the thorn store. I get it
Notice a difference right away like within the first week and i'm like
There's got to be something. This isn't placebo. I can tell the difference
Can you expand on that if you don't mind like what the difference was immediately? So first of all when you take when I take creatine
I carry around. I mean it helps you retain water in your muscles. Oh dude five to ten pounds
We'll take it. Yeah
So I got on this other brands creatine and I'm like
And immediately the scale just
And I'm like with the opposite direction. Oh, yeah, like I wasn't taking creatine. Oh
Get back on real creatine and it's like
Plus got stronger
More endurance all the things you get from creatine if you guys aren't taking it. It's like a no brainer. Of course. Yeah
So
Dude, I just I couldn't believe it. You were just knocking out pilates class after that. Yeah. I was yeah
I was just on the reformer again
I couldn't think of reformers around to go with pilates. I'm so glad you knew what it was
And by the way
If everyone listening tried to get on one of those reformers you would you died you died. You would just die. You died
I'm glad we're on the same page. I know I know some NFL guys who in the off season were like, ah, my wife goes to pilates
I'm gonna go to pilates and I talked to him like two weeks after he's like, I'm fucking miserable
I can't wipe my ass. This is the hardest shit I've ever done
These guys dead lifted 650 pounds and they're doing pilates with their wife through like
Never again. And then the funnier part is like, I don't feel like I got any better at my sport by doing this either
I'm sore for that sake of being sore. No, so in the group chat you got absolutely
Roasted and now you're sitting at home like not being able to move because you're so sore. Oh my god. My face hurts
This was that's sort of like hot yoga like the first time if you've ever done hot yoga you go
Oh my god, I'm not built for this dude. That's so funny when I had a business back in the days over a decade ago
We had a partnership with uh at the time it was called big room
But you're not allowed to say that anymore because the guy obviously is a whatever
He's a weirdo pervert kind of guy. So they just called it hot yoga and uh started doing it
It was so hard
But then you start doing it and and then you just kind of get used to the heat and whatever
That was some of the coolest because it's just like being you'd like being in sauna
We like being in sauna. So it's like sauna with a little bit of strength training and just so I'm clear
I like alone in the sauna. So let's not get weird out there
I don't know why you had to make it weird. I also like alone in the sauna. Well, I didn't know
I don't want people I didn't want people to think we were you know
Group sauna guys. Oh, let me I'm sorry. Let me specify. I know we like being in sauna separately
Different times in different states not with each other. I'm uh, I'm five days a week these days. Yeah, yeah
Ever since I got it. Yeah, we only FaceTime one of those five days. I was like, hey, dude, I'm in sauna
Dude, what's going on?
Let's talk business
Yeah, right
It always devolves into something about some sort of as they say jeez me. Did you hear what this guy said in the car world?
I did actually
Um, all right, this wasn't my face literally hurts

I'm just gonna say I stole the raptor idea from nick
I'll make sure that it refutes all of those allegations
And if you see one allegation in there, here's what I want you to write exactly

You just kind of stay in your lane. Yeah seems to have changed. There's certain
Things you just don't want to do being out on the road july 4th that kind of thing
It's a real thing now. So yeah, we're just gonna chill and and kind of enjoy the weekend. Yeah, I got my 4th of july slash
Father's Day gift is an american 250 hat right here the ashros 250 hat. So yeah, shout out

Oh, sorry. See you guys. What does that have a trash can on one of the sides? That was the allegations
See you guys next week. I don't want to hear it. See you guys next week. See you guys
About this episode
Dive into the blurry line between automotive influencers and journalists before tackling a listener's dilemma about returning to a previously owned car. The hosts debate Jeep culture, the superiority complexes found in online car communities, and Dodge's creative NIL marketing collaborations with college athletes. Finally, they analyze the leaked pricing of the highly anticipated Slate, questioning whether its rising base price and destination fees will push it out of its intended budget-friendly market and cause it to fail before it even scales.
