Även om jag är 65 och jag älskar historien,

jag vill optimera min tid att röda modern motorcykeln

vid Apex av sitt utveckling.

Jag kommer inte att köra en älskad kommand,

eller en älskad stjärning,

gärna hur gärna de blir.

Jag tror att det har varit den mest populästa kommenten

för hela den senaste veckan.

Om vi talar om massmarknaden,

ja, kanske ett gärna röda.

det har gått så stort nu,

och jag gillar Renault 5,

men det är så stort.

Man kan inte even compare,

apart from the general shape of the body.

Motorbikes are very different.

A brand new Triumph Bonneville.

Give or take, give or take, I know.

Looks pretty much identical

to a 1960s Bonneville.

The same with the Royal Enfields,

the same with the BSAs.

Even BMW with the R12 GS.

I mean,

that's arguably every bit as good looking

as the original PariDac

are winning BMW R80 GS.

The point is,

you can have all the looks with motorbikes,

but with the modern reliability,

so it does make complete sense.

Why would someone pay

the exact same amount for a 60 year old bike

when you can buy a brand new bike

with warranty with all the reliability

and it's the same price

and you don't have to worry

about any of that classic bike stuff.

They're just more reliable.

Anything, I think I agree with this.

I'd be curious on your thoughts.

I'd think,

I think this is bang on

what I would agree with as well.

Maybe I'd go a couple of years older

but pretty much bang on, Mark.

Anything post 1990 slash 1992

that has radial tires,

good brakes and suspension

and is reliable

can still be used

and can still be used in modern day traffic.

And they're still 30 plus years old.

Anything older than this

about 30 years plus

is now obsolete.

I'm quite young for being a rider.

I love classic bike looks

but for the price they ask

you can buy a brand new motorcycle

with a modern chassis,

modern engine and block capitals and

the retro look.

So a classic bike either is extremely cheap

or has no reason to exist anymore.

For example 20 years ago

if you wanted good point

to buy a classic Kawasaki

you had to buy one

from the 70s or 80s

but now you can just go and buy

a Kawasaki Z650RS

or a Kawasaki Z900RS

for basically the same style

but all the modern reliability

and technology.

very, very popular point you make.

Then it backs up actually exactly what I said.

Onto just carrying on a bit more of this

because I do enjoy this discussion.

This is with regards

to the Norton Commando

I showed last week,

Facebook Marketplace.

All these Norton Commando

from the 70s

they're all being reduced,

all of them,

as we're witnessing

this market correction

for these 1970s motorbikes.

This one I think was up

for about £6,000

and it has been reduced to £5,000.

So SB35 Not Out says

as an ex-police rider

I can tell you that the Nortons

like the one you showed last week

were low mileage

because they were always

out of service

and off the road.

as a young chap

I had a brand new 1970

Norton Commando.

God imagine that.

in Australia.

That's a proper sight.

I called it the Blue Healer.

After our famous Australian

blue cattle dog breed

it was called this

where I tried to ride it to

it inevitably broke down

and always came home

on the back of a ute.

I bought the Norton

after a short lived relationship

with the 1968 Triumph Bonneville

that from brand new

leaked so much oil

it posed attraction danger

when the back tire

or to the back tire

it spent half its life

of my ownership

in the dealership

workshop.

I very quickly changed

to buying Japanese bikes

Hondas and Yamaha's

and I finally got to do

some real road miles

on boring

but ultra reliable bikes.

Okay let me try

and see if I can get

a modern equivalent for

for not a ludicrous amount here.

I want all the style

and I also want the nostalgia

of a classically styled Norton

a British built Norton.

There is only one way to go

if you want

modern reliability

the nostalgia

the classic

styling

and the legitimacy

built in Britain still.

A Norton Commando 961

is the only way to go.

If you want the the last word

in relatively speaking

reliability from a Norton Commando

you have to get a 2023

and onwards

because for those two magical years

or three magical years 2023

2024 2025

Norton har nu discontinued

the Commando

which I think is a huge shame

but for those three years

that's when Norton had pretty much

ironed out all of the

often fairly chronic issues

of the Commando

it's when TVS was in full control

and wanting to get everything perfect

so the Norton Commando years to buy

2023, 4 and 5.

they hold the value so well these bikes

just eternally desirable

the icon of their day

they are hugely respected

for an excellent condition one

from a dealership

about 15 000 miles on the clock

and here's one

concourse condition

9 000 pounds

you can get ones in lesser condition

for example for about 6 000 pounds

it's it sounds like a mad market

and it is

but

if something's got an emotional attachment

it's worth what it's worth

however

with a bike like this

this is a 50 cc bike

and let's say for example

this one is a 1973 model

that means

the people who are riding it

would have been born in around about

1957

that means the people around about

70 years old

where this bike is relevant

so this bike is a classic bike

is appealing to 70 year olds

and around about that age only

anyone not from that era

this bike will mean

absolutely nothing to

the point i'm trying to make here

when the generation

that has money

and can afford to buy these

about 10 000 pounds

when they stop riding

this will be worthless

because no other generation

will have any real interest in this

and about 10 years time for example

the Yamaha physis will go from being worth

let's say 6 to 10 000 pounds

for a good one

to 11 and a half thousand pounds

because it is that specific

the time frame a bike like this

has a genuine interest

and a genuine value

i think this is one of the most fascinating cases

in the emotive element

of vehicles

because it's just the most simple

i see the charm of course

but it's the most simple

50 cc little moped

with pedals

it's so basic

there is nothing remotely special about it

apart from that emotional attachment

i move on

when i tried to sell my grandfather's

1969 bonneville t120

actually i'll quickly jump in here

you know you get the likes of the nortons

the old triumph bonneville

and things like that

this may be me being biased here

but they are beautiful vehicles

so they will always have a value

because they are things of real beauty

where the Yamaha physis look

it's a charming looking thing

but you're not going to buy it

specifically because it's a beautiful thing

so it's just got the emotional attachment

whereas the likes of the bonneville

they're beautiful things

and people can appreciate the beauty

that was my grandfather's

but i had nowhere to work on it

and the carbs were a nightmare

in the end i just wanted someone to buy it

and restore it properly

it was in excellent condition overall

but the carburetters needed rebuilding

the fuel lines needed replacing

i had it up for sale for months

before eventually reducing the price to 5 000 pounds

it's a 57 year old bonneville

having to reduce the price to 5 000 pounds

it's not much money

is it really for an icon like this

who came to pick it up

a couple of brothers in their 80s

came to see it, bought it

and have absolutely loved it ever since

they even sent me a video of the restoration

which was great to see

i think the issue with bikes

from the 60s and 70s

is that people

who have both the money

and the nostalgia to pay a premium for

them are gradually disappearing

so prices are starting to soften

because the market

it just isn't what it once was

i think the bikes from the 80s and 90s

and now the generation

that's most likely to appreciate its classics

going back to a previous point

1980s and 1990s era bikes

or cars

for that matter as well

they they sit in that beautiful spot

because a lot of the younger generation now

are wanting to get more on to the

the analog way of life

you can see people starting to like

wired headphones again

journaling

and liking vinyl

and there's loads of this analog

and old school

back to simplicity stuff

that people are really liking

but and i'm generalising

people don't want to have to be

spannning all the time

so there's a sweet spot in history

1960s and 70s vehicles

you you need to know

what you're doing to understand

you need to be wanting to spannning

whereas

let's say

should we say mid 1980s onwards vehicles

they are reliable

they're simple

but they're well engineered

and you can use them on a daily basis

so it may be that magic era

let's say

starting from the mid 1980s through to

maybe to 2010

before you got ludicrous levels of technology

just stuff

at a simpler moment in time

but you still have that modern reliability

from Ray now

the chinese bikes

will still be cheaper

this is a really interesting question

do you think the chinese bikes will still be cheaper

once they have flooded the market

the legacy manufacturers down the drain

and chinese is your only choice

the Kias and the Hyundai's

look they're perfectly decent value

but they're really in line with the likes of the

the Ford's, the Vauxhall's, the Fiat's, the Citroens

things like that

you wouldn't specifically say

oh the cheapest brand in the market

well of course that's Hyundai

no, they start to raise the price

once they built the foothold in the market

will be seen level with

and the prices will reflect that

Belgium is officially introducing

a digital road vignette

starting 1 May 2027

it will apply to all cars, vans, and motorhomes

using Belgian highways

and regional roads

goddamn regional roads as well

but here is the best part

motorcycles

remember this everyone

Belgium

May 1st 2027

motorcycles are completely exempt

from this new road vignette

since bikes are already exempt

from the standard annual road tax here

Belgium is becoming even more of a haven for bikers

in fact

many of us think this new car vignette

will actually push more commuters to ditch their cars

and switch to motorcycles to beat both the traffic

and the new fees

so if you or any of your community are planning

a trip through Europe

from May 2027 onwards

you can completely bypass the vignette hassle

you are more than welcome to come and enjoy our beautiful Belgian roads

I've actually never got a vignette in my life

which is very irresponsible

I tend to just head off with nothing

and hope that it was okay

the interesting thing

but I was chatting to a French journalist

who works for one of the big French magazine publications

and I said to him

because he lives in the centre of Paris

is it so much hassle

with all of these vignettes and things like that

how do you deal with that

and he looked at me and laughed

and he said yes

it may be the law

but it's only the law if you follow it

I said oh yeah

and he said yeah no one actually gets vignettes

for motorbikes

even though technically and legally

you're supposed to

but in reality

it's kind of an unwritten rule

with the French that you just don't bother

that's got to sound really really irresponsible

that's purely for sentimental value

and you said yes

well I finally did it

in the pictures you can see my nan and uncle

in approximately 1982

and we created the photo last week

this is the emotional attachment

that makes bikes so magic

I'm in the process of getting it running again

but that wasn't the priority

my nan has dementia

and recreating the photo

and hearing her talk about the memories

as she was sat on it

made my year

she was telling me she purchased it

when pregnant with my uncle

that's why she eventually sold it

this is the Stella Alpina rally

this is a rally that has been happening

for years in Italy

that's kind of been cancelled and banned

but is still going on in some element

that's a nice background

of my Stella Alpina rally experience this year

I had been planning on riding down

on my Fantic 250 trail bike

wow Leo, I'm jumping in here

I'm jumping in now

The thought of riding

a 250cc trail bike

from England to Italy

into the mountains

nah, I need a second to even process that

because the thought of riding my Yamaha XT350

all the way is tough

but doing it on a 250 Fantic trail bike

ooh, I continue

considering doing my Fantic 250 trail bike

but a few days trail riding in the UK

convinced me that my 68 year old bones

needed something more comfortable

Well, I've got a CFMOTO 800 touring

I'm finding it a little bit heavy on the trail

so though touring on the road is great

I rode some rock on back late April this year

but my partner accompanied me on that trip

on a recently acquired

CFMOTO

everyone's talking about this 450 MT

this is going to be the bike

that really solidifies

Chinese brand CFMOTO

and it has to be said that her bike performed flawlessly

the bike's 40 kilos lighter

so when asked

she said I could ride her 450 to the Stella

I sorted out a month's insurance for 115 pounds

packed a bag and headed south

three days on French route national

slow going through the Pas de Calais

but a morning's ride

had me clear of port traffic

following up the network of free roads in the area

arrived in Baronecchia

early Friday afternoon

it was a good 13 degrees cooler than in France

Shambari was 38 degrees in the shade

over five days I rode with friends old and new

exploring the network of military roads

still open to vehicles

the Stella was a little disorganized

the promised merchandise did not materialize

and I think the extreme heat may well have put some off

but the riding is breathtaking

I've ridden the area on and off for 40 years

and it never fails to satisfy

I was asked to lead the post-Stella event called the Safari

it's an informal ride out usually on the Asiata

a gentle days ride on Monday

with nine riders attending for Tuesday

I rode a gentera

and was treated to a wolf crossing the track

in front of me

on another road trip

I thought I'd do a few road trips here because

it's road tripping season isn't it

Freddie I headed off to France

with my riding mate Craig

we left London at 6 am sharp for Dover

hopped the ferry over to Calais

and we were straight on to the good stuff

we hit Le Touquet first

then Le Trepport

Saint-Valerie-Encoe

Omar Beach

and rounded it off in Dunkirk

Triumph powered the way

my Tiger 660 sport in his

Street Triple 675

and both bikes were absolutely devouring those roads

singing their hearts out

every single mile

wide sweeping twisties

and just

that just went on and on

every bend revealed

even more stunning views

it was endless

we hugged the coast going on

then carved through quiet inland lanes

on the way back to Calais

then a draining two hour ride back to London

four days 620 miles of pure riding bliss

I cannot say this loud enough

if you've got two wheels

book that ferry now

France delivers everything you dream of

incredible roads

proper warm hospitality

and every single mile

puts a massive grin on your face

on your face

just go

you won't regret it

I'm loving these so much

Freddie I've recently completed a grand tour

around England and Wales

on no less than a Royal Enfield Classic 350

I set out from Edinburgh

and spent seven days

traveling across the UK

visiting towns and cities along the way

soaking in the myriad of landscapes

architecture and personalities

this country has to offer

I wild camped

oh I like this

I wild camped every night

this is really good

in various locations

from the fields of Oxford

to the valleys of Wales

and this is brilliant Daniel

that this is not me trying to

report you to the authorities

I'm saying this purely because

I find it fascinating

because wild camping is technically

illegal in the UK

barring Scotland

so it's really interesting to hear

from someone who's done it

I have done it a few times

in

in areas

so this is a very interesting point

you make

from the fields of Oxford

to the valleys of Wales

at one with natural beauty around me

I averaged a distance of 200 miles a day

using Calimoto to find

secluded country routes

and was able to fix

any bike problems

with the standard toolkit

don't let anybody tell you

that you need a huge capacity bike

to go touring on

the Royal Enfield blazed

through the country

in comfort and style

leaving me with memories

that will last forever

of the classic 350

with that chrome and red tank

chrome front mudguard

kind of shade on the headlamp

that comes as standard

I love these bikes so much

and the thing that really makes this stand out

wow white wall tires

that looks sensational

I still I know I say it every time

the classic 350

for me is one of the best bikes ever made

because it introduced us to

desirability

and affordability

in one package

I don't know if any other bike's done it

in a package

that tantalising

I love that bike so much

that bike

will forever have a place in my heart

because I remember in Lithuania

when I got it

it's exactly the spec

and I was just blown away by it

I remember seeing the original

marketing videos

marketing posters

for the classic 350

and thinking

that's one of the best looking bikes

I've ever seen

and then they announced the price

it was about three and a half

thousand pounds

for a brand new one

and I thought

nothing has ever come across like this

ever

that level of fit and finish

and quality

and style

for rock bottom price

that's never happened in my

living memory

I wrote towards my Triumph T100

it may be of interest to you

it seemed to resonate

and motorbike groups

I'm from the UK originally

but I've spent most of my life

on the road as a musician

more recently

I decided to settle in Lisbon, Portugal

but after nine months

I couldn't take the normal life

and I decided

oh you'll be inspiring

a lot of people here

I love stuff like this

and I decided to get rid of everything

and hit the road on my 2007 Triumph

I don't really know what I'm doing

but I've recently spent a month in Morocco

then a fair bit of time traveling around Spain

soon I'll catch the ferry

from Barcelona to Genoa

and then head east to Hungary

I think

maybe I'll travel the whole world

who knows

this is the post I made on Instagram

it's been nearly two months now

since I packed up my life

and hit the road on my bike

but I want to talk about this bike

the first time I lay eyes on her

was in a big shop in Derby England

there were two middle aged men looking at her

and I overheard them say

that's a bit tatty

isn't it

that was the moment I fell in love

that was back in 2022 now

and trust me she's much more tatty now

since then I've put nearly

that's not a typo

since then I've put nearly 100,000 kilometers on her

I assume that's not a typo

wow

been to loads of different countries

she's even got a new life in the sun

she's not a bike

she's a companion

I've ridden her other bikes before

I've had adventures on other machines

but I didn't love them

they didn't have a soul

they never became a companion

just a vehicle for adventure

people have told me multiple times

including other bikers

that I'm stupid for doing some of the riding on this bike

they always get a little laugh from me

from 1,000 mile motorway days

to subzero in the Alps

to desert riding in Africa

we have done it all

you don't need the latest tech

and the cleanest bike

in fact that can even detract from your adventure

you just need a companion you love

enjoy the ride

oh Freddy after you advised me last week

on a Tobaya Yamaha XT 2250

this is because Ian had a budget I think of £2,000

and he wanted a Japanese

trails bike, dual sport bike

this nice and light and physically small

I said why not get the Yamaha Cerro

because a few other people had advised it

so I carry on

after you advised me on the Yamaha XT 2250

I want to see three

one of them was a dog

one had hidden issues not advertised

and the third

this is the problem

we're looking at the downsides here

I always say go on Facebook marketplace

but

the older the bike certainly

the older vehicle gets

that the more problems it's had

the more owners it's had

who have done bodge jobs on it

there's just more stuff that goes wrong

and the older the vehicle

I've learnt with the Yamaha

the older the vehicle

and the more owners

the more nonsense you're going to have to deal with

and if it's going to be a keeper of a vehicle for you

you're going to have to dig down

to the very bottom

the very core

and rebuild it

to a proper vehicle

that you're proud of and that you can keep

and it's a process

so the final one wasn't even registered in the country

so that's three bikes

three that Ian's gone to see

and not one of them was legit as advertised

back to square one

but oh no

I had a Royal Enfield Himalayan

about six years ago

and I only sold it

because it wasn't what I needed then

they're great off road

not too expensive

and rock solid

so

1600 notes later

I've bought one

Highlift Cam

Fuel Ex Pro

Hallens Shock

and more

these bikes have got to be

the best value bikes around

the Land Rover Defender

of Motorcycles

basic

utilitarian

asthmatic

nothing remotely fancy on it

average build quality

but it will get you

absolutely anywhere

and the charm

is exactly in that

the stripped back to basic nature

the unique styling

I absolutely love these bikes

and can you believe they were launched in 2018

that is seven years ago

this is

one of the bikes

the models from Royal Enfield

signalled the rebirth

of the brand

and it was that funny intermittent period

it doesn't have the build quality

of the intercept to the classic 350s

or anything else

it was a very strange intermittent period

where it kind of sits between

the old more unreliable Royal Enfields

slightly famous for not the best build quality

and the modern stuff

and there weirdly you had the Royal Enfield Himalayan

just sitting in between both of those periods

so

what can we find for this

excellent excellent bike

and I've

and I mean this

I have almost never had so much fun off-roading

because you can rag these bikes

to within an inch of their life

redlining all the way off-roading

they give so much confidence

they've got endless endless grip

excellent excellent bikes off-road

really genuinely fun

and it's not even that they're light

because they're not light

they're just really good

they kind of buck the trend

where I always say

lightness is everything

these aren't that light

but they are brilliant

you'll feel at home immediately

on one of these going off-roading

and I prefer off-roading this

than the newer 450 Himalayan

do you know the crazy thing

it's not even difficult to find one at this price

finding one at about 1,700 pounds

you can take your pick

and that is absolutely

unmessable at that price

I'll do this one

for example listed

three hours ago at time of me filming

2018 Himalayan 1,675 pounds

you can probably get this for one and a half grand

one and a half grand

for such a bike

great condition

just service with a Royal Enfield filter

eight months MOT

few scratches

but very presentable

luggage, carriers

not shown

but they are included

low mileage, new tyre

and chain and sprockets

a hundred miles ago rides great

all that

you cannot go wrong
