This is Two Blokes talking electric cars with Steven Fenwick and Trevor Long thanks to NRMA
Insurance and UNIDEN. Great people at NRMA Insurance and UNIDEN, NRMA Insurance helping
Australians protect what matters most for 100 years and many more to come and they are also one
of Australia's largest insurers of electric vehicles and UNIDEN smart dash cams there to
protect you and your vehicle with information. Information after whatever happens in front of
you. We were on a drive recently and there was this board on the freeway and it was okay we
got around it and someone else took it off the freeway but oh I clip that video I saved that
video just because it would have been interesting little video to share with the boys but if
something had to happen I would have had that captured and that's what matters most. Well
that's the thing you know if something happens on the road but also in car parks a lot a lot of
stuff happens when you're in part like parking mode thank god. And what happened to UNIDEN car park
the rear camera came into play didn't it? Exactly I was entering a car park yeah and then I got
rear ended in coming into the car park and it was all captured in crystal clear on my UNIDEN
dash cam because Stephen had dash cam footage of it. Great to be with you and great to have you back
on the show folks thank you for listening thank you for watching if you're watching
leave a comment below on the YouTube channel if you're listening we'd love to hear from you
and get in touch a lot of people it's funny in the comments they often say this and that and I go
get in touch let's get on the show yeah well we're happy for the comment to be out there on
the internet but come on get on in to talk to us double seven oh four double seven six five seven
six five seven save that number as the two blokes and we'll get you on the show if you've got
something to say and you want to have a chat about anything EVs Aaron's on the line wants to
talk EVs g'day Aaron. How's it going guys mate really really good what's your EV situation where
are you at in the journey as we say okay so I'm currently driving around in a company supplied
Mazda six wagon it's up for and I've just got a bit of a promotion on the books it's coming up
very shortly. Congratulations mate. Good promotion eh? Yeah yeah where I've got to hand the car back
so yeah so looking at an EV we're pretty this would be actually be our second EV in the family
we've got my wife currently drives an ad-oh three oh nice okay how long she had that mate
we've had that coming up three years in April so it's safe to say you're you're across the world
of EVs because you would have worked kind of hand in hand with your wife has she learned through
the process have you got a charger at home already? Not at the moment but I've just been able to get
away with the granny charger for the last three years driving about 50 kilometers a day sort of
yeah granny charger and charge that across the night yep so it's been pretty handy I've never
outlaid that but doing the kilometers I will be doing I'll definitely be needing to go yeah upgrade
the charger but yeah so this is your company car your new company car is that what you're doing?
Yeah I'd be moving to a novated lease in that respect yeah so what's that and so you're obviously
on the road a lot mate so what what what sort of k's you're doing per day? Um I'm driving from
onesy onesy down to Sydney so a bit over I'll say it's an hour it's now from home to the end of the
yeah a couple hundred k's a day so and when you're in Sydney driving towards Long Range
you're driving around as well in Sydney while you're there or are you going to an office?
More so to office slash customer site so okay yeah so you're gonna need you're gonna need
as in the old school you're gonna need in the tank you know 300 k's of reliable you know range
every day yeah absolutely so that's why that's why you're looking at the Long Range what is it the
Model 3? Yeah Long Range Model 3 and I'm like looking at the other models like is there another
model um but I've missed and you've been another brand or another or another yeah other brands yeah
other brands that well you've been exposed to probably the biggest competitor with what your
wife drives BYD's yeah they've got similar their BYD seal is basically a Model 3 competitor right
do you need the wagon that you've currently got or you're okay with with any sedan? I'm okay with
a sedan and a wagon would be nice I'd love to get uh who's got the Zika got one in the in the wings
coming up there is a van well we sorry a wagon remember we had a caller maybe a month ago wanted
a wagon I saw one of them on the road actually just the other day saw one a Zika yes they brought
one in a race I've seen it and I think you know what I was driving towards MSR they might have
let's think through this I mean have you have you done anything have you gone to any dealers yet?
Yeah so you actually mentioned the seal I actually took a three for a test drive one in the morning
and took the seal out in the afternoon I really wasn't that impressed with it um compared to the
three yep mate can I can I ask you Aaron uh Aaron is also my son's name mate so great name you got
there yeah the uh the Tesla though it sounds from reading your message the Tesla has sort of got
you a bit mesmerized that it's really sort of space age futuristic and that's kind of
that's what's really appealing to you am I right? Yeah yeah definitely that technology level in the
space age and the openness of the cabin too I really like that um I feel like even the ATO
three is more open than driving around a seal um in that respect because you know what mate uh as
a former Tesla driver myself I drove a model S for five years and I've got to say that Tesla
ownership is a little bit like it's a movement like a lot of people especially when I when I bought
my car there was no other electric car brands around right so the Tesla was this brand that
was sort of it's like the apple of the car world at the time and still is still has a little bit
of that sort of that feel to it and there's a lot of people who are very passionate about their
Teslas and about the brand and but the car has this allure this car it's so futuristic and so
different to what you were driving before so futuristic that that's what get that despite it
being more expensive than other models that's often what gets people over the line so if that's
what appeals to you then enjoy it you remember you're going to be driving this car every day for
what five years three years so you're gonna like it so but you know I think I think you'd be mad
not to look at a couple of things I'd be looking at a Polestar I think there's some some really
interesting models in their range I think you might have to go to a Kia dealer they've got
so many EVs you've got some great choices if you haven't sat in a mate the new EV4 um and I don't
think I've got it I'm interested in that and so I found it was a rear wheel drive a front wheel
drive oh right front wheel drive is it yeah yeah I was have you been have you been your master's
front wheel drive like yeah what's your issue yeah he was I've got no overall he's just like
a like a rear wheel drive but in day-to-day life honestly yeah you've never had a problem
your beautiful Mazda that's a great car that Mazda 6 wagon by the way if you've had a good car for
a while but that's a front wheel drive it's very rare to find rear wheel drive cars now I get in
the electric spaces a lot of all wheel drive and different things like that yeah but honestly I
here's when I think it matters a lot of the new brands that have come to market you know whether
it's the JQ or the DPAL or whatever I've found that the the front wheel drive of them it does
great me a little bit because of the way they I don't know that they apply the torque when you're
coming out of a driveway it's like it's like sometimes I don't get the grip it's a weird
thing that happens just coming out of my office complex um but in like honestly day-to-day driving
I think to not look at something because it's front wheel drive is probably pushing you pushing
your barrel a little bit but have a look at some pole stars yep that KV4 take it for a drive um
because yeah it would be my suggestion that's probably the nearest competitor I reckon but
but also we had we had a listener David who went to our mate Aaron and got a price and took
delivery of his beautiful bronzy gold looking EV4 gorgeous car I gotta tell you man I'm loving the
look of that thing and I think that what you can do in this situation because you're you got the
opportunity here going I'm I can you know on the company let's let's have some fun here on the
Novot at least mate drive every Kia drive drive the C-line 7 as well at BYD yeah good call um
if you know you know you're gonna love a Tesla so that's fine look at the Polestar and and I think
among those if you still walk out going now I love the Tesla mate yeah deals done absolutely deals
done and so is it up to you Aaron and what you choose are they just okay yes it is yeah it's that
they they give me an allowance and I'll just go try and squeeze it in what do you do mate what's
your job I can just in control so large uh we call commercial buildings that sort of that level
I've got a small commercial building I'd like the air conditioning control to be smart can you come by
here our studio and just mate I want an app I want to be able to turn it on and off with an app
it's annoying the hell out of me no it's just ring two ring me and two GB mate I'll give you some
advice if you I don't want to switch but I don't want an actual controller that does that anyway
that's a conversation for another day Aaron back and back on the EV conversation uh I'd imagine
range is obviously something that's really important to you as well so have you done your
calculations in how these different car brands compare range wise I know the long range
Tesla is probably I don't see how it matters 300 k's mate every car is 400 plus you wouldn't buy
anything today they didn't have 450 500 plus that'd be your minimum wouldn't it yeah definitely that's
the minimum yeah but we're also looking towards something in the longer range um so we've found
we've taken the atto from uh yeah Lake Macquarie all the way down to southwest Victoria okay and
I'll say you know the long drive long drive so you know the deal you know the deal have you has a
uh has a hybrid a plug-in hybrid maybe been an option for you yeah but I'd like to try and
take advantage of the uh tax incentives with the revival at the moment you're mad not so
what do you do you plan to change your what you use getting by with the granny charger with the
solar or yeah what's the story we don't have solar at the moment and yeah plenty it's been
in a world charger yeah man I think charge up I think you're going to dominate that world charger
because you're going to need to know that every day you're going to get into the car at 90 plus
because you're really going to want that want that sense of it plus you know there's so many
charges around now like and not just Tesla superchargers they all they don't want you don't
want a supercharger to be your everyday drive if you like Aaron's going to drive this thing to
20 every day you don't want to have to stop at a supercharger on your way home that's expensive
too can get expensive so but but wouldn't you be able to with decent range you'd be able to get to
Sydney and back and charge at home that's what I just said you're gonna have he's going to dominate
that charger at home when you install it so your wife's going to need to take the take the moments
that you're not on that but she'll stick to the granny charger wouldn't you no you could do that
but why would you stick to a granny charger when there's a you know yeah fair call seven at least
seven kilowatts in the air call well I don't think we've talked about how soon is all this
going to happen mate are you when do you have to make your decision I'm just oh they won't push me
too hard but there's definitely it's going to happen soon it's just a mat probably in the month
the next month or two they'll hopefully they're just dragging the chain on paperwork and all that
sort of stuff at the moment I decided to pull the trigger on the Tesla how long will you before
you're in the car how many how many what's the weight talking to them so I was looking at stock
what I want typically in stock so yeah that's kind of the handy thing about Tesla um what color
you're gonna get mate what color you want I would love to get the red but I think the budget may
only stretch to the white because whites cost you nothing oh that's one of the three colors
what's cost you nothing yeah yeah I really like the red with the white interior but also I don't
know about what red white interior I had a lot of kids and all that stuff and everyone will tell
you every Tesla owner will tell you I had my Model S had white interior um and it was mate I
originally chose a black interior but this other model came up that someone couldn't finance it
would that everything else was what I wanted uh but the white seats I went yeah let's go and you
know what it made it so futuristic and the seats were in your defense Aaron Stephen didn't have
little kids in the car but yeah we've heard from several Tesla owners over the years haven't we yeah
on this show they have great wear here they're not a great wear so I wouldn't be put off by I can tell
you that all I'm gonna say to you Aaron is this even though you're getting it through work no matter
so this is this is your car mate stretch to the red because here's my you know you know my love
for Teslas um the one thing that frustrates me is they're all buddy white on the road so mate get
the red one at least you'll stand out and you know when else you'll stand out resale yeah true that
true that because in three five years from now they're all going to be white on reason my other
question Aaron is had you not considered the Model Y or are you are you a Trevor are you like
Trevor who thinks it looks like a toad no it's not doesn't worry me either way but probably
the looking three once again pushing down the budget down a little bit and also that 700 plus
gay range on the long range makes it interesting makes it enticing for the longer driving
super compelling yeah that's true yeah yeah I think your mind's been made up Aaron I'd say so yeah
I know this called this has done nothing for you mate yeah we're just you know like it never took
place mate you've already decided I think I'm sorry I thought very convincing I was like how
we forgot something we've just we've just convinced you we've just validated it mate we validated
we should come up with a term for it because we get on the radio as well people ring up and
go I'm looking at the high sense 85 you go mate you don't want our opinion you want validation
you just want us to say yeah that's a good idea but I'm going to call it it's talk back validation
that's it all right that's it that's what you that's what you just received Aaron Aaron you have
been blessed with talk back validation from the two blows not a problem but you know what Aaron
we'd love to hear back from you that when you've had the car for a couple of months and how you're
feeling what you like about it don't like about it we'd love to chat to you there as well and
what's happens to self of you with that red car mate yeah yes no problem go red go red mate
great to hear from you buddy thanks Aaron thank you cheers mate any time and if you like Aaron
want to have a chat about your electric car purchase we may not help you at all but we'd
love to talk to you nonetheless oh four double seven six five seven six five seven
two likes all your electric cars we'd love to have you on the show oh four double seven six
five seven six five seven send us a text uh save our number send us a whatsapp whatever you choose
and we'll get you on the show just like Aaron and just like Bruce g'day Bruce
hey gents how are you yeah really good mate what can we do for you where are you out in
the ev world well about three weeks ago took delivery of an im5 performance and you cannot
be happier oh that is now we've driven that nice car we had the five n6 right though i had the six
i think you had the five yeah because they're very similar cars aren't they one's reason one like a
sedan one's like a like a bit more like a wagony yeah issues yeah what did you what how did you
what drag what brought you to the im brand how did you get there uh all thanks to byd actually
so what happened mate i'll try and i'll try and keep this really brief um not too long winded but
27th of november i signed up for a seal performance shark grey um went through paid deposits signed
the contracts the following week did the finance they had a special promo deal of 1.88% over three
years zero balloon wow and that just stacked up as a business option for us so yeah signed up um yep
all good over the christmas break my wife decided she wanted a seal also so she ordered a seal
dynamic so she's ordered hers from the Danny gong um i ordered mine from uh glen wavley
and everything was sweet dealer experiences weren't too bad both dealers had i've heard you talk about
restricted routes for test drives both dealers had that so we couldn't take them on the freeways
or anything which was very frustrating but um we still um both signed up and six weeks after
i signed up i got a phone call from the finance guy saying well um there's been delays in getting
the shark grades into the country um can i down can i downgrade you to another car
and i said no he says well because you won't be taking delivery of it by the end of january
we can no longer honor that finance arrangement oh boy sorry this is byd arranged finance yeah
yes byd promotional finance right because it was getting consequently yeah so consequently told
yeah told them to stick it um i'd been tossing up between the iam five and the seal at the time
but the seal was 10 grand cheaper and yeah the finance arrangement it was a no brainer as a
business purchase so um what i said to them apparently those contract arrangements weren't
shared with me they weren't told to me verbally weren't given to me in writing so i had no understanding
so um yeah they're very very disappointing um and i've gone and bought a iam five my wife's gone and
bought a um mg super oh no hs you've given them the double shove so the other one so your wife's
told them they can keep that too yep so they've lost 120 grand of sales from us so Bruce was
with your wife getting the same finance deal and at the same issue did you did you pull the pin
on hers was a cash put hers was a cash purchase that's my that is a ball of move bruce i'm a massive fan
well played far out so you won these losses uh iam's game mg's mg's got a double bonga from
us so okay see wow same sales even same sales guy so obviously he was quite a happy chip um she's
bought a hs by the mg hs super fev uh because she was always nervous going full ev so couldn't
blame her um she's charging three times a week and she's happy as and um so yeah that's where
we're at now you've got the full ev or your car so yours uh nice nice right we've both we've both
driven that and respect is very good car it's gorgeous interior gorgeous yeah really i think
at the time i commented to you i said mate if that had a Mercedes Benz logo on it it'd be be double the
price that car it'd be a hundred twenty thousand dollar car yeah yeah well i sold my 2000 yeah i
sold my 2000 and 22 cell a 45 s amg so yeah i've changed down and from a business perspective
i just couldn't justify going back to another murk yeah really okay prices increased the
it's a lot of money the finishes yeah yeah wow i'm a little fascinated as to then okay so we've
given them shove we've said nick off byd huge decision big man yeah um and by the way not
because it was byd turning on byd lovers because it was the that's the courage of yeah of taking
you put your money where your mouth is and saying i'm sorry if you're not willing to find me away
i'm out of here by the way so is my wife um but but what was it an instant move to mg dealership
or what was the transition i am was one of his choices i think yeah that was close but did you
like that's that point was one of my choices so desperate to get a car quickly that you just
went with that or did you consider anything else uh i needed something performance i love performance
cars be it rs is amg um i had sold my amg in december so i was driving my daughter's who's on
her al's uh 17 year old Toyota Corolla so yeah i was anxious to get out of that so okay and we've
had it a few weeks now uh we're still loving it three weeks it's gorgeous the performance i had
one of your other callers a few months ago talking about his purchase and couldn't agree more so
and like with you guys um yeah so what one one thing i noted when we when we drove the car
was there was a lot of the um the safety features that we we turned off and how i wanted to have
that there was there was a little center screen yeah the center screen you can easily turn it
all off you're right steven it's a big switch to going to a modern car with all those bings and
bongs how are you going with that barissa you handling all that or you're a conservative driver
you're not getting those warnings anyway uh no no i'm not a conservative driver
yeah so i used a shortcut um the driver camera you know facing the driver um
yeah that gave me the shit so i ended up putting a piece of insulation put a bit of
insulation tape over the top of the camera so when they start the car up it comes up camera error
and you just have to push a button and it stops it so fix that problem up yeah i think a lot of
people do that yeah you just get an error saying the camera doesn't work and the life goes on yeah
okay so that's gonna warn you like you're less warning yes okay that's what the driver attention
things like that you know yeah for sure well yeah when you're looking at the screen it says
you're distracted so what do you got a screen here for it yeah what am i doing well you don't
have to look at it that much i think is their problem you understand understand yeah i do like
a layout of that have the big screen a little center screen the cluster as well nice do you get
a lot of comments it's just very refined yeah yes a lot actually it's very refined and yeah it's
really nice design and awesome to drive it really is the performance is phenomenal 3.2 zero to 100
have you told me that it sounds like it sounds like you test that every second day you like you
would have been for square day bruce by Saturday off the lights mate so yeah and bruce just i mean
it's obvious but just to clarify great experience with mg yeah nothing nothing because we haven't
heard a lot recently about mg from callers i would say mg dealership out in barric who we went
through exceptional great service sales guy was great so you know he's got you know probably
close to 120 000 of sales himself so yeah you've helped him hit his target so i uh i expect you'll
be on his christmas list this year so and so you so did you get so you said your wife got one
as well right through the same they got him through the same same sales rep and so which one did she
get which one did she's got the mg hs no no the super hybrid super hybrid okay she likes that one
so it's got the bigger battery yeah she's loving it absolutely loves it virtually isn't using petrol
at all um plug in charger at home yeah so good i was gonna ask that so you got the charging
situation set up nicely at home then well ironically and you'll laugh at this we've
we've been separated for eight years we live in separate houses we still get on well i just can't
live under the same roof as each other okay we've got two daughters that's why i work so often
i travel yeah someone in my family described my wife and i was estranged i travel that much
yeah so she's um got a tesla she's got a tesla charger and i've put a i've put a zappy charger
in because i've got solar panels so lovely both work brilliantly oh and she comes around to drop
off the kids and say good day and just plug in as well let me plug this in for a little bit
oh mate bruce yeah that's that's awesome man i'm you know what the great thing there is
disappointment around the financing arrangements yep but the fact that there's something it's
actually a really good sign of the eb market that you could be disappointed and not get the
chosen car you got a choice there's so much choice that you ended up with a car that you're super
happy with so that's that's great news mate hold on your bruce well done no so i've been listening
to you blokes yeah i've been listening to you blokes since about episode two episode three of
the tech podcast so wow i've got for those that haven't been listening to two blokes talking tech
and this we often give you a shout out on our other show a great plug to uni there are great
sponsors here yeah they provide dash cams bruce is famous for firstly not loving as much as we
talk about apple bad news uh that's still happening uh and secondly famous because you got a video on
dash cam owners australia's youtube channel once you were coming onto the on ramp of a freeway as
i recall and there was a person on the mobility scooter and it was like unbelievable vision but
you were listening to two blokes the background was us at the time that's the one don't worry bruce
you're in grain up here man that's your claim to fame mate most of all mate we we absolutely
really appreciate your support mate and to be a loyal listener for that long mate because it
has been more than 15 years now it's been a while at the time of recording it's spot on 15 but
mate really appreciate your loyalty mate and super great to actually have a chat yeah good one thing
very quick just to blow you away yeah i'm on the second lobby i've got alo cameras so i thought uh
in rma for the insurance i gave them a call oh wow um but they came back with a premium of $6,500
per year wow so i'm 60 40 years club driving record so that was disappointing um but then
racv came back at 2800 so wow okay you ended up ended up in the right place mate that's the main
thing yeah all right yeah you know what and this this applies to literally everything it doesn't
matter who the company is always shop around absolutely i would encourage people to shop
around for every single thing whether it's a dash cam or insurance but absolutely as long as you
give our give the people a call first then then we're happy bruce mate lovely to hear from you
enjoy the im and uh and keep in touch as always no or always will thanks guys thanks mate it is
great to hear from you there you go uh a proper long time listener first time caller exactly yeah
and uh and yeah great experience so driving the im bad experience with byd byd directly is im or
mgs gay two cars boom two cars were lost under that deal 120 grand worth of cars that's what
are you that's what they spent well all right we'd love to hear from you whatever your experience
good or bad uh 0 4 double 7 6 5 7 6 5 7
ah two blokes saw your electric cars great to have you company folks and if you want to talk
electric cars you know how to do it 0 4 double 7 6 5 7 6 5 7 thanks to bow to phone send us a text
or a whatsapp and we'll get you on the show just like we did ryan ryan's on the show good day ryan
how you doing mate yeah gents how are we today very well we've spoken to you before you had a model
three yeah and i think uh yeah the hybrid as well where what's in the driveway today
so just to bring you back up speed uh yeah so seven years ago i bought a tesla model 3
performance we had a rap for hybrid at the same time um me and the missus moved to
uh moved to cambrough in 2022 and we uh the raffle was a hiker uh a work car so we got
rid of that and bought a murk plug-in hybrid glc 300 e nice beautiful car beautiful car
however a couple of years later uh we had a little one on the way um i started to get a
bit turned off by things in the murk like the software wasn't as good as what the tesla was
the running costs a service and all that they're bloody expensive to maintain as i'll see if you
can you can contest to yep tires tires tires yeah i hear that too yeah yeah yeah um but mainly i guess
it was the well the space was the main one like you couldn't even get a pram in the thing and anything
else but uh it was also the low ev range in in plug-in hybrid mode so being in cambrough you know
it's a relatively small small town and for the most part you think you can get around on just ev mode
but um the murk would get probably 40 kms at a push 30 kms easily kind of thing of ev range
and i think what i think what really annoyed me the most is like you'd go around you do something
and then you'd be like half a kilometer from home and the petrol engine would start up and i'm like
jeez it's a stone cold engine it's just just just annoying you know trying to do ev only range but
anyway that's just my sdk and in so subsequently we were actually walking past the tesla dealership
and the missus was like oh that's a nice new color the the new silver at the time that came out so
had a look at it and um she was blown away by the space in them so the rear the underfloor and all
that so she basically gave me the knob so like right now let's do it so is that a wine we bought
a we bought a yeah we bought a model y so we've got a three and a one now i've still got my three
which is you know now coming up seven years old still going well you must be one of the first
model three owners yeah 2019 wow yep i did and you know what he's a great thing that we get a lot
of people going on especially the haters about you know battery replacement data talk to me about
the range of that 2019 model three how how much lower is it today than it was when you first bought
it look i was thinking about that because i knew you'd ask and it's really hard to tell and i've
done a lot of highway trips as well like we moved from queensland to camber camber back to queensland
bunch of road trips in between all in the teslas and and that and it's probably at a push 450 is
what you'd get out of it now keep in mind that car brand new advertised 500 but realistically
was probably about 470 because they never get what they are so bugger all it's lost so very
let me back to you it's still high i've looked after it to be honest like um with my commute in
camber i didn't need much and i was charging it pretty much every night because i only had the
wall just a power point to to charge off and i'd only really charge it to 60 and then bring it back
down to like 45 and then bang up and just kind of keep it in the middle because that's ultimately
the way to look after a battery the most is to keep it close to 50% and work your way left or right
from that fair call you know so that's the way it sounds like it's done it's performed terrific
seven years of driving in the teslas sounds like it's uh and low running costs the whole thing
you have you had any major issues with it at all no none not really yeah no they're super reliable
testers i've got they really are look i'm gonna test that for myself it is hard to argue with the
fact that and uh steven can attest to this as well that you could be due for a service and i'll be like
don't bother they're ringing up and cancel it yeah unlike Mercedes they're saying no bring it in
they will we'll service you you think it needs a service we'll fit you in seriously i had my
service late last year it was eight hundred and forty dollars for my service and like it was 1200
for my glc unbelievable and the list of things on the they the list of things they do is check your
cabin light check your your spare tire even though i didn't have one yeah so yeah and i'm thinking
where's what's happened here all right you Mercedes yeah so the wife loving the model your life
wife's loving the model why though i'm assuming oh look she likes it she'd she'd much prefer to
be in a european car like we've got our eye on the new ix3 as well but it's really hard to go
past the model why just for the space and the tech the having two of them the integration across the
apps is phenomenal like my profile links to her car like i could change something in my car
or vice versa jump in the other car and it comes across so seat positions all that kind of stuff
that's where Tesla's got it over other brands mate the the tech in the car and i can remember the
day i picked up mine the bloke said to me goes mate this is the worst your car's going to be it's
going to improve over time as is your as you've seen for yourself that's the real hook for a lot
of owners who that's what attracts them to the brand the you mentioned the yeah the ix3 is that
the Neuer class that's the brand new thing isn't it yes i mean that's a that's a cool gorgeous
looking car it's very new great we've seen it from basically the ground up in the in the
building of it really the the way they've put the concept together it's a phenomenal thing
but you know you don't why would you change well you now know you can get seven years out of a
out of a tesla model three you know you can get the same out of the model y plus it's very hard
to convince you to change cars now wouldn't it right honestly mate you know what you do bring
up a good point and i was talking to a mate yesterday who's just starting his ev journey
now he's actually moving from a land cruiser to a tesla wow but um he was asking me he's like you
know any regrets i'm like nothing and then we were talking about the two cars because you know
the model y is only a year and a half old the model three is seven and it's like there's really
not that much difference between the two cars because the car has improved so much over those
years with the software and all that so i'm even struggling to justify do i even replace it do i just
keep driving yeah so after what seven years like how long are you going to hang on wood for and
are you just going to upgrade it with another tesla are you are you still going to stick with
i don't know yeah well i don't look i'd like to try something else but it's really hard to it's
kind of like the apple ecosystem right like once you're in yeah yeah you know what i mean that's
true no i understand but also financially it's a wild thing to think oh we we're just going to
get and get and get another car why it's fine yeah again i've said this about my cooper i'm like i
don't think i think at the end of the lease i'm just going to pay it out and own it because
it's a great car why would i go into another like why it's a it's a car i love and if your
car's going good and the battery health is still high you're still getting the range you need and
even at worst right that thing gets to seven or eight nine years old and you do notice maybe the
battery is at 400k and you don't think that's enough even though it's totally is then you go well
hang on we've got the why which is four or five years younger and it's still got the the range
so for the longer trips that's the car you take so the driveway mate your driveway is going to
stay the same for a long time i reckon because financially it's almost insane to to change you
know it's funny though right like the why it's the why is just a standard and the three is a
performance but range wise much for muchness to be honest like it's so much more efficient the later
ones and the single motor and all that kind of stuff um i even noticed this a lot when when
we came back from camber because we towed right i towed a trailer we got towbar on both cars wow
and um you use about 30 more energy right towing and that's pretty consistent across both cars
however when you're using less to begin with 30 percent is obviously less of an increase so
it was actually a pretty straightforward drive coming coming back up from camber this year i
didn't even have to take the trailer off once which surprised me all of the superchargers which i
exclusively used this time around because they're now the cheapest by far compared to all the other
networks being a tesla owner and you know you don't have to worry about the subscription still pay
10 bucks they're still the cheapest the best way to go so is that how it works so if you're a tesla
owner you get a cheaper rate on the supercharger than say another brand of cars at how it works
yes so if i plug your key are you getting the same rate as me paying 10 bucks are you getting even
less no i get the same rate that you pay if you pay 10 dollars yeah there you go okay okay yeah
but yes they are cheaper i guess i mean one of the ones up here in new idli is like 38 cents
like that's unheard of right like most of them are around 51 yeah yeah 51 58 or something like
but yeah 50 something was what i was paying in golden and you know that's 30 30 cents cheaper than
the others so yeah it is wow yeah mate you're the man you should be on he's yeah but um
no i just want to say like the towing thing um they've got a lot of pull-through charges now so
you can just drive alongside um i think most of them i got away with that but then there was a
couple where i just kind of went side on because it was quiet so i was able to get away with that so
yeah whole way camber to queensland didn't have to take the trailer off hey because you've been to
so many superchargers just finally i want to ask you this um i noticed in gold when the last time
i was there um there's yep i don't know there's 20 um uh bays right one of them has uh an air
like a tire pressure pump and i'm like that's brilliant because that's something like what are
you doing you're sitting for 20 minutes check your tires you know so i said to harry mate go and check
the tires while we're here you know i've never seen that before but i thought i thought it was
such a smart thing to do absolutely yeah it's what i even like uh where was i i think i've
stopped at a bp in the past and things like having a bucket with water and and all that's
clean your windscreen that's a nice thing to have that don't get me started they have that
ryan ryan i want to float to you and steven now live we've got to do this quickly because we've
got to wrap but here's my idea you know when i was a kid uh teenager we take our bucket we
take our bikes we go and knock on people's doors and wash their cars today yeah i'm thinking if you
had a he had a ute with a tank on the back don't you think pulling up at a charger and going do you
want your car washed we'll do it right here and uh like a bucket while you're waiting yeah mate i'd
every every time i'd i'd say yeah wash it maybe maybe that's an idea for a whole sort of a new
chain of wash and charge places come on get your car charged and have wash it at the same time but
i think pocket money for two birds one stone but your point ryan mate let's just put a bucket
for the windscreen can we let's just clean the windscreen yeah yeah do that yeah yeah right
lovely to hear from you glad you're having a positive experience with with both those uh
cars ryan that's uh it's awesome you're a you're a you're a two tesla driveway buddy well done
no worries mate great to hear from you always mate cheers and uh and we'll hear from you again
in the future i'm sure because he's got that oh yeah he's got that pending decision about keeping
that car or not if ever there was an endorsement for tesla as a brand there you've heard it right
there and he's been joe driver for seven years so we say it all the time i'm a narc not a fan i
wouldn't but but the reason that's what i want is because everyone owns one like i want i want
a i want scarcity plus you're not a fan of elon musky the less and a lot of fan of elon um and i
do want a few buttons in the car but leaving that aside i can objectively realize that it's
it's the best network to be on in terms of charging so that's why i tell anyone to subscribe
it's it's the best at sales and service for everything we've heard so i mean what are we
doing here folks ticking all the boxes every every car company should be learning from tesla
absolutely right no one would argue with that well they kind of sort of they they they turn the
they were the disruptors when they enter the market and uh continue to lead the way i think
two blokes storing electric cars thanks and our main insurance and union then smart dashcans we'd
have to hear from you on the show at any point just send us a text 0 4 double 7 6 5 7 6 5 7
steven will sit he'll reply to them um yeah he doesn't do that at all uh he just comes in and
says who are we talking to today because that's my job but uh we're ready for you we're ready for
you folks steven's got knowledge i've got knowledge we'd love to absorb your knowledge as well drive
electric cars several if this is your first time if this is your first time on the show we both
drive electric cars he has since 2017 2018 2018 and anyway we're here for the long haul folks as
you can tell because this is now into our third year of this show so bring it on folks and we're
known for sticking around 15 years of two blokes talking tech there you go yeah and at least three
of these so i've picked stick there you go i picked him and we're sticking i was like couldn't we
bother putting up with anyone else thanks mate i just i'm a people person he knows what that means
and it's a it's a genuine comment yeah so uh we'd love to hear from you folks uh get in touch
and we'll do it all again next week steven see you then ciao
