need to translate into Italian for any
reason.

does have some good angles this car.

is fabulous. I think the broad side's

fantastic. I think the elevated 3/4 is
fantastic. The rear straight on, maybe

rear deck lid is this is black plastic.
And so whatever Ferrari's charging to
get that body color, spend, you know,
because it will look,000.
>> Is that what it is?
>> No, whatever it is, spend it cuz it will
look better with that. But um you drove
an 812, right? Did you driven the A12?
Johnny's driven the A12. Um similar, uh
slightly evolved, I think.
>> Well, let's talk specs. I mean, tell us
what it has for
>> It's 819 horsepower naturally aspirated
V12 engine with the 8-speed DCT
transaxle. It's a very interesting power
you say it again.
>> It is amazing. The whole car only exists
to serve the existence of this engine,
right? And then of course you have the
fact that the entire engine is mounted
behind the front axle. So it is a true
front mid V12. The result of that is a
car that that drives like a mid-enine
car. You're just sitting sitting on the
other half of it. Instead of sitting on
the front axle, you're sitting on the
back axle. But it still has this
amazingly sharp turnin. It's just
happening over there.
>> The sharp turnin's happening in a
different zip code from your app,
>> which is how the A12 was.
>> Exactly. Exactly.
>> I hear this is and probably especially
the convertible uh softer cuz the A12 to
me was like the most aggressive Grand
Tour I've ever driven.
>> It's not like even they're not even
really grand tourers because they don't
have that much leg room. They don't have
that much trunk room. Like the putting
of the engine behind the axle get takes
up so much space that it like the
Vanquish too. Like if you want to go on
a grand tour, you want an Amalfi or a
Bentley GT or a or a um a 911 Turbo or a
DV12 a DV12 or a DV12 like because like
they're just more comfortable and
they're still super super fast. But this
is like crank it to the next level. But
you do like for instance like even
though this car is like 87 ft long, it
actually is a little short on leg room
for me. Like I I I have a 31 in inseam.
I'm not that tall but but I was a little
my hips are a little tight. So
>> cuz there's a V12 push right there. Now
having said that, Johnny's right. It is
a little bit softer and a little bit
less darty than the 812, which itself
was a little softer and less darty than
the F12,
>> but they added rear steer, which did
help in a lot of ways.
>> I I also drove I drove the 812 GTS,
which I really like that car.
>> That was
>> I drove both and the GTS just like this.
The top going down is worth it.
>> What does this cost?
>> This the base price is a 510 and this
one starts Yeah, this one's about 650.
And who's buying this?

looking at Ferraris. If I'm a Ferrari
guy, which I kind of am, and I love
them. I just don't buy them. But you
know, 849, the new guy, the new Tesco,

>> Yeah. To me, that's a Ferrari. Like I I
look at this.
>> I reserve judgment till I see it in
person. It there's certain angles I'm
like, "Wow."
>> But here's But here's what I'm just
saying. Like 48, you know, I I'm buying
that version, the Pista. I'm buying
cars. Most people want that. Yeah.
>> And then and then you've got things like
Roma or the Amalfi that's coming out,
right? Which is on the the new Roma. Y
>> that's kind of on the other side of
this, right?
>> Well, it's just the smaller version of
this. It's the eight cylinder or version
of this.
>> But what is what differentiates those
two kinds of Ferrari buyers?
>> Like I'm saying, this is this is the
engine wrapped in whatever.
>> Like it's the it's all about the engine.
And so here's a fun little comparison
for you. compared to Vanquish. That's
probably its closest competitor is the
SR,
>> which we like, which we picked as the
STR car of the year.
>> Sick. Yeah. Sick. Love that. Okay. Same
same formula. Extremely exaggerated
proportions, limited leg room because of
that V12 behind the axle, etc., etc.,
but extreme.
>> The that that car 838 horsepower,
7 uh uh 28, I believe, or 738 pound-
feet of torque.
>> All kinds of turbo torque. turbo torque.
The power band of that car, peak torque
2500, peak power 6,500, red line 7500.
Okay, that's the for the Aston. This car
peak torque 500 lb feet. So 50% less
than the Aspen at 7,250
RPM is peak torque, right?
>> Okay. And then peak power is 9,200. So,
your RPM is 2,000 RPM wide and from idle
6,000 RPM away.
>> But the the thing is, as you know, like
it's hard on public roads to get to
9,000 RPM,
>> right?
>> So, no one's ever going to do
>> So, here's what's funny about this car.
It's geared, not you. Yeah. Well, you
know, it's your same as your spider,
right? You know, you got to wind it out
to get there. It's just same exact
thing. Now, that doesn't mean it's not
fun on the way. That doesn't mean it's
not making some. Now, it makes no power
below like three grand, but in the
middle it's fun. At the top, it's rad.
And what's funny is it's actually geared
pretty short. So, in the up on like
Angela's Forest, uh, and some of those
roads, third gear, and you're you're
you're zigging it. You're zing like it's
geared shorter than than my spider for
instance. And it so and it revs and it
is beautifully balanced. The steering is
nice. This is the ride is great. The
brakes are amazing.
>> But but the question remains like you
know how do you use this? Like how would
you compare this? Like
>> I mean I I can only compare it to the
the way I drive Porsches, right? So
let's say the GT3 is like the uh the new
Tessterosa, right? There's something
you're racing around and having fun in.
But my daily might be something a little
like this. Like for Ferraris, I just
don't understand the Ferrari environment
of buyers. Like what is this buyer
doing? Is he driving this to work or is
he taking it to canyons on the just on
the weekend?
>> Well, real quick. So, this has no
hybridization at all. The 296, which I
you know, again, I think it's probably
the best driving new car you can buy.
It's a hybrid. A lot of people just
won't buy it. Doesn't matter. They don't
care. Won't buy it. The the uh 489
Tessteros, sorry, 849 Tessterosa. It's a
hybrid. It's basically the SF90
replacement. So there's a lot of people
with with a lot of money that just kind
of like or in an orthodox manner say
I'll only buy a V12 with no hybrid
[ __ ]
>> Yeah.
>> And so this this is Ferrari saying give
us $650,000
for your enlightened opinion.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I mean you're taking it to
the supermarket.
>> It's it is the big daddy. Like the
people that I know that have 812s.
>> It's it's big daddy Ferrari buyers. It's
it's it's it's not just it's not that
they genuinely truly prefer the dynamics
of the 812 to the 2. It's I know I know
what that costs and I know this is this
is a V12 Ferrari, my friend. And like
the engine is it's it's whatever you got
to do to get
>> Yeah. Well, I guess I'll find out. I
mean, when I get it, I'll tell you how I
want to use it. But I know right away
like when I these cars, like it's not
that I love or don't love them. It's
just how do I use them? Yeah. Love wears
off. You're like, you know, you've seen
with these cars like this 718 Spider. I
couldn't have predicted I, you know,
Zucker and I frankly were just going to
keep it for a couple months and then
flip it.
>> Sure.
>> And at at the end of the first month, I
went, "We're going to hold on to this."
He was like, "Why? I haven't stopped
driving it. I'm using it across my
entire week. It is such a great thing to
use in a bunch of places I didn't know
that I
>> It's the right size. It has a bunch of
storage. It's approachable. Yeah, but
I'm just I put it in the garage at home
>> and guess what? I'm taking sunset drives
and I'm going to the supermarket and
then I'm hitting the canyons and I'm
taking it to car shows. It lives it's
living very well in every day of the
week.
>> This car I just want to know like when I
get into it. I know I'll take that to
tennis and talk to the tennis crew.
There's new Ferrari and stuff. We'll see
how it does in the canyons. I don't know
if my wife will go out to dinner in
that, you know. We'll see.
>> I'll tell you what. You want something
funny?
>> I just want to I want to find out.
Hannah, we went we had to do an errand
across town on Sunday and it was going
to be a haul. Yeah.
>> It was going to be traffic. Yep.
>> And she said and I was like, "We're
going to take the Ferrari." And she

only skill is I try to integrate cars in
my real life and then be honest about

be two weeks into ownership on one of
these things and have your wife say,
"I'm not getting in that." That really
is the depressing moment.

owner, he was like, "My wife refuses to
get into the car because it has gold

It's just like here's how the world
reacted to it. And you should know that
before you write.

cooling that combo is in the summer

spent in you option a different seat for

wasn't sure if a better seat was
available. Uh I know Ferraris all come
with a couple different seat options. Um
but it wasn't it wasn't my favorite. My
back and my hips were pretty toasted
after this car, which in theory should
be a pretty comfortable car.

despite how it looks in photos, the use
case for this car is more similar to an
Aventador than to a Roma.

but it's effectively the same size and

so all the stuff I liked about the Roma

design language. It looks more like
other Ferrari. Doesn't quite have the
Daytona black band. But

design. They said, "Okay, here's what we
did. We started with a pure form. So
just like the shape of the car in metal
and then every time we had to like cut a
door handle, cut a wheel opening, cut a
headlight, it was painful. So we tried
to minimize that. And we put everything
on these black grooves. There's a black
groove on the snout. There's a black
groove on the rear. We hung the front
camera and the headlights and the black
groove in the front to minimize it. The
tail lights, the rear camera, the button
that pops open the trunk that's on the
rear one. We just want to see form of
car.
>> Mhm. It's it's a lot of designer gobbly
gg, but I made a lot of sense to me
sitting across from the guy.
>> I mean, look, it is a it is a clean, you
know, looking design. There aren't a lot
of spots where the metal has been carved
out for stuff, which is not the same as
like the Tessterosa, which looks like
it's a prototype that still has a
cladding on it.

turbos that rev to 171,000 and they rev
very quickly and the whole thing. So,
like peak or, you know, peak torque
starts at 3,000, but it revs to 3,000
much quicker than the Roma did. So, like
it's one of those like you get in and
you're like, whoa, this thing wants to
go kind of cars, right? And um yeah, I
mean everything I liked about the Roma
uh is there and it even more so whereas
like the Roma when you when you had it
in comfort and I got into a big fight
with someone about this once where I was
like don't put it in comfort. But
anyways, yeah, it just takes out all the
damper and it was like sloppy, right?
Sloppy. It rode better in sport.

8-speed is the same transaxle as the as
the um what's that thing called? 12
cylindry. Um, in in the old in the Roma,
it would get to eighth gear by 39 miles
an hour.

first get out and we're you can't even
walk as slow as it's moving.

That's exactly what I thought it was a
story. Real quick though, you brought up
driving tests real quick and I remember
I texted you last week about this
question, right? Yeah. My nephew Cole,
shout out to him, just took and passed
his driving test in the state of
Georgia.
>> Get this. I thought you would find this
fun. No instructor in the car.
They provide you with a sort of dash cam
that has a communications in it and they
watch you over what is effectively a
Zoom call while you are driving.
>> That's lazy.
>> His mom was in the car with him, but she
is not allowed to say or do anything,
>> but she's in the passenger seat.
>> She's there in the passenger seat, not
allowed to say or do anything. and he
does the test while there is a a [ __ ]
instructor on a on effectively a Zoom
call over a sort of dash cam like
device.
>> So this is the DMV version.
>> This is the DMV. So if they had the
Unimog, she could do the pedals.
>> Yeah,
>> that is really bad. No, that's not good.
>> It's weird. Don't like that.
>> How do they see? Do they have a forward
facing?
>> It's got to be a forward. Yeah, two
camera setup forward like a V-bog
virtual. They got a MCH in there.
They're looking at telemetry,

that moment for a kid. And I remember
>> I remember going to the DMV and the jack

this kid has worked to get to this?" And
start. My mom is so sweet. She's like a
nurse.
>> But at the same time, I'm like, "Fuck
yeah, this guy's standing up. How could
you forget this?" Right. But it was, you
know, and it it's now it's a family joke
and we talk about it and we laugh about
it. And you know, when my son recently
went and he did his, he it was fun to
watch him, you know, flop sweats and
squirm and go get, "Hey buddy, get used
to the pressure. This is life. You're
about to turn 18 soon. This is going to
be your life all the time."
>> Dude, think about.
>> And then they feel so great when they
pass this video thing.
>> Weird.
>> That's weird.

>> Think about why there's that rule of the
insurance card. doubt. Think about how
many people have had had to make a claim
on their driving test only to find out
they have no insurance.

interesting moments in, you know,

week about Whimo and the rest of it and
and it was a much simpler idea, which is
go ahead and try to stop technology, you

forward. And that was my only point. At
some point, you have to embrace it.

and uh I didn't notice it during the
ride, but as soon as I got out, I I
crawled across the back seat to get out
the other side and I kicked two empty
beer cans on the floor of the Whimo and
I was like, "Well, this
>> brother unsupervised future." I mean,
there's a funny holiday clip that you
can find right here. There was a
Christmas festival in Venice where the
Venice canals are and everybody was on a
bridge and here comes a Whimo and it
sees the people and it stops on the
bridge and the uh the hippie pot smoking
Venice community was cheering it on
going, "Come on, boy. You can do it. You
can do it." And there are all these cars
behind there. Look at there. They are
right there. And there's a there's a
second clip where the Whimo finally
figures it out and everybody cheers.

Check out something that was on the
internets today. Uh, Porsche restores a
Carrera GT to zero mile condition. Um,
but it didn't look like this 20 years
ago. There it is.

Victor Gomez, uh, is apparently very,
very wealthy. He took this Carrera GT
and said, "I'm going to make my own
spec." And Porsche said, "No problem.
What do you want to do?" And he said,
"I'd like to make it as new." The 2005
uh Carrera GT is a brand new V10
supercar with a new livery and made his
own. Yeah, the Salsburg livery. That's
right. Which was driven by Hans Herman
and Richard Atwood. Uh 1970 Le Man
winning. Um and now brand new. This guy
I mean I if you go down I'm not I love
the outside of it.
>> The hard side is good. The interior the
interior feel bad. But if you're gonna
spend your money on stuff, I really
applaud Victor Gomez. Like having them
take a Carrera GT and make it brand new
and creating something new with it is a
really good use of cash.
>> Well, they're doing, you know, they're
doing a lot of these. If you go down to

Remember that
the target heritage edition that had

wanted to touch on uh here on
motor1.com. Finally, a wireless phone
charger that doesn't suck. Now, this
story is is buried on motor1.com. And I
believe this is one of the biggest
hassles none of us are talking about,
which is these wireless chargers. I'd
say there's a 90% fail rate in the press
cars that I drive. When I put my phone
down, it's it it sometimes will work. It
bounces off and other times it just does
nothing. It just bricks out. This uh
Nissan has a new what does it say? Q12
wireless charger. Scroll down and look
what they did. Look at this innovation
here. Keep going. Go down. You're going
to see the solution. There it is.
>> A mag lock.
>> If you go look in my Rivian, I have an
aftermarket charger with two.
>> Yeah, I have a mag I have a mag.
>> And you have a mag lock on it.
>> I have a Mag Safe wireless charger as
well.
>> Is it called Mag Lock or Mag Safe?

>> Mag Safe is the Apple. So the
>> But it's fantastic. This is what I want.

What do I do?
>> You have to buy it. So, the Rivian came
with with two wireless chargers that
like literally suck. Like, they're much
worse than everyone else in the
industry. And then there's a thing that
looks it's got the same wood trim. It
looks like the right piece. Fits in,
plugs into USBC. And I've had a
prototype. I I believe there's just a
nation of humans suffering with this
problem. And

So, you don't have to go aftermarket.
But I mean, it cost me like $20.

care about the most. Like when that one
little thing doesn't work in your car.

Glendale. A year, two years ago, I went
to Kinko in Glendale and there happened
to be four Mercedes G-Classes with fake.
They all were the handicap spots and
they all had fake handicap black.
>> How do you know they were fake?
>> I don't know they were fake, but I
guarantee. But what are the odds?
>> The odds of four handicapped people
going to Kinko's at the same time in
their G Wagons is very low.
>> Right. So he wrote me. He said, "Could I

years ago for this thing I'm working on
for Christmas?" I said, "Absolutely.
