Motorbike camping and off-road stories take center stage, from childhood crash lessons to a brother’s race-bike spill and the “power band” surprise of two-strokes. The chat also connects racing culture—Bathurst 1000 dates and camping sell-outs—with why bikes can reach places cars can’t. Between the banter, the hosts lay out common-sense rules: educate yourself on tyre pressures, learn low-range operation, and follow leave-no-trace and campsite courtesy.
This week the boys discuss their dream of doing a motorbike trip, early stories of learning to ride (and crash), and we go through some of our favourite common sense rules from you guys!
The 4WD Podcast powered by Tyrepower. Recorded at BackChat Studios built by grounded.
"So a lot of no, would they go to Bathurst or Phillip Island? They would do I think they would do both my uncle's sometimes that brought their bikes up"
Bathurst is a famous place in Australia for racing. The hosts are talking about riding to it when big motorcycle events happen.
Bathurst is a well-known Australian motorsport venue, commonly associated with major racing events. In this context, it’s mentioned as a destination people ride to for big motorcycle racing.
"I'm pretty sure it was to Bathurst. Maybe I feel a pile and when they had the Moto GP there"
MotoGP is the top level of professional motorcycle racing. It’s a big event where the best riders race on a track.
MotoGP is the premier class of professional motorcycle road racing, featuring factory teams and top-level riders. When someone says “they had the MotoGP there,” they’re referring to a major international racing event that draws large crowds and teams.
"Yeah, Phillip Island in Victoria They'd rock they'd ride their bikes to that camp for the three nights"
Phillip Island is a famous racetrack in Australia for motorcycle racing. The conversation is about riding there and camping for a few nights.
Phillip Island is an Australian circuit famous for motorcycle racing, including MotoGP. Here it’s referenced as a trip destination where riders would camp and make a multi-night outing around the event.
"He dad would have had a Honda XR 600 oh, she's still got it by the way and like I've ridden that and"
The Honda XR 600 is a dirt-focused motorcycle made for off-road riding. It’s the kind of bike people choose when they want to ride trails for a long time.
The Honda XR 600 is a single-cylinder, air-cooled dual-sport/enduro-style motorcycle known for long-distance off-road riding. It’s built around durability and tractable power, which is why people use it for enduro and “ride for ages” backcountry trips.
"Because they're like well dad used to do a lot of enduro riding like the old Back in the day like you go off-road and you know, you just go go for ages"
Enduro riding means riding dirt bikes over rough trails for a long time. It’s more about endurance and control than just racing for a few minutes.
Enduro riding is off-road motorcycle riding where you cover long distances over rough terrain, often with timed sections. It emphasizes endurance, traction, and keeping the bike running reliably for hours rather than short bursts of speed.
"I haven't done I haven't ridden bikes in so long from the most recent bike. I had was a KTM 300
EXE six days one."
This is a KTM dirt bike with a 300cc engine. It’s the kind of bike people use for off-road tracks and exploring rough ground.
KTM 300 refers to KTM’s 300cc dirt bike class, typically used for off-road riding and motocross-style terrain. In this context it’s mentioned as the rider’s most recent bike before returning to motorbike camping.
"I just I'm not a big fan of the two strokes like I prefer the four stroke bikes
But two strokes are wicked fun wicked fun."
A two-stroke engine makes power in a simpler, faster cycle. Riders often say it feels more lively and exciting compared with four-stroke bikes.
A two-stroke engine completes its power cycle in two strokes of the piston, which usually makes it feel lighter and more “snappy.” The speaker contrasts it with four-stroke bikes, calling two-strokes “wicked fun,” which matches how many riders describe their quick throttle response.
"I just I'm not a big fan of the two strokes like I prefer the four stroke bikes
But two strokes are wicked fun wicked fun."
A four-stroke engine runs through its power cycle in four steps. Many riders find it smoother and more controllable for everyday trail riding.
Four-stroke engines complete the power cycle in four piston strokes, which generally makes them smoother and easier to manage for trail riding. In the segment, the host says they prefer four-stroke bikes over two-strokes, implying a riding feel difference.
"Oh, I actually know the last bike I rode was a 450 Honda
For stroke and my brother rode it."
“450 Honda” refers to Honda’s 450cc dirt bike class, commonly used for motocross and enduro-style riding. The speaker later describes it as a race bike, highlighting how 450s are typically built for strong power and aggressive track use.
Car
CRF 450 race bike
"Took it out like CRF for CRF 450 race bike like proper race bike
And I don't know if you ever touched one or like no much about it"
CRF 450 is Honda’s 450cc dirt bike line. It’s designed for racing and serious off-road riding, not just casual trail cruising.
CRF 450 is Honda’s 450cc motocross/enduro family, known for being race-oriented and high-performance. The speaker specifically frames it as a “proper race bike,” which helps listeners understand the bike’s intended use and why it can be intimidating.
"Fair enough. Mm-hmm broke his leg think going over a tabletop. Oh jump in it
We're trying to"
A tabletop is a type of dirt-bike jump with a flat landing. If you land wrong or too early, it can cause a bad crash.
A tabletop is a motocross-style jump where the rider lands on a flat “table” section rather than a steep ramp. The speaker connects the crash to going over a tabletop and landing early, which is a common way riders get hurt when timing is off.
"No, it's like it's a type of motorsport thing and it's like rallying they just do like the fastest time possible across say"
Rallying is racing where you drive a planned route as fast as you can, usually timed, not just going around a track. The course can be different from event to event.
Rallying is a motorsport where drivers race against the clock on a custom course, often with changing surfaces and conditions. Instead of a permanent circuit, the route is laid out for the event and can include public roads or specially prepared sections.
"They close a whole bunch of stuff down and it's like drifting along doing jumps over like boats and whatnot."
Drifting is when a vehicle slides sideways on purpose while the driver keeps it under control. It’s usually done on closed areas because it’s hard to do safely.
Drifting is a driving technique where the driver intentionally over-rotates the car (or bike) so it slides sideways while maintaining control and speed. It’s often done on closed courses because it requires precise throttle and steering inputs to keep traction under control.
"they're just out there having a good time popping monos and
[1065.9s] The average speed of 80 k's an hour like that's what it looks like on some of the videos"
“Monos” means riding a motorcycle on one wheel, like a wheelie. It takes balance and careful control, and it can be dangerous if you’re not experienced.
“Monos” is short for motorcycle wheelies performed on one wheel (often called a mono-wheelie). It’s a stunt that requires balance, throttle control, and clutch/weight management, and it’s risky if attempted without practice and space.
A 2-stroke engine is a type of motorcycle engine that makes power with a faster, simpler cycle. It usually feels punchier, but it can be noisier and uses fuel less efficiently than a 4-stroke.
A 2-stroke engine completes its power cycle in two strokes of the piston (one crankshaft revolution). Compared with 4-strokes, it typically makes power more quickly and is often louder, but it can be less fuel-efficient and dirtier if not tuned well.
Term
cc
"I put him on a like 85 cc2 stroke. Well, yeah
[1138.6s] And an older Yamaha."
“cc” is a way to describe how big the motorcycle engine is. Bigger number usually means more potential power, but it’s not the only thing that affects how fast the bike feels.
“cc” refers to engine displacement in cubic centimeters, a measure of the engine’s size. Higher cc generally means the engine can move more air/fuel, which often translates to more potential power—though gearing and tuning also matter a lot.
"And an older Yamaha. Yeah, not the best bike to learn on but it was you know, we had"
Yamaha is a well-known motorcycle maker. Here it’s just the brand of the older bike they put the rider on.
Yamaha is a major Japanese motorcycle brand known for everything from beginner dirt bikes to high-performance sport machines. In this context, it’s being used to describe the older bike used for the rider’s first experience.
"there was a 80 cc4 stroke
[1152.5s] Like a Honda CRF 80 and then a Honda CRF 100"
A 4-stroke motorcycle engine works in four steps to make power. It usually runs smoother and is often easier to live with for beginners than a 2-stroke.
A 4-stroke engine completes its power cycle in four piston strokes (intake, compression, power, exhaust). It generally runs smoother and is typically more fuel-efficient and cleaner than a 2-stroke, which is why many beginner bikes are 4-strokes.
"Well, yeah, but like it wasn't all we had there was a I think there was a 80 cc4 stroke Like a Honda CRF 80 and then a Honda CRF 100"
The Toyota Supra is a sports car made for fast driving and sporty handling. It’s not an off-road 4x4, but it can still be mentioned when someone talks about the different vehicles they have or use. In this podcast context, it’s grouped with other vehicles the hosts had around.
The Toyota Supra is a sports coupe known for its performance-focused design and strong enthusiast following. It may come up in a podcast because people often discuss how different vehicles fit into a broader “garage” or lifestyle, even when the show is centered on 4WD and off-road gear. In this episode, it’s mentioned alongside small dirt bikes, suggesting a mix of vehicles used for different kinds of riding and driving.
"there was a 80 cc4 stroke
[1152.5s] Like a Honda CRF 80 and then a Honda CRF 100"
The Honda CRF 80 is a small dirt bike that’s often used to help new riders learn the basics. Because it’s not very powerful, it’s easier to control while you’re learning.
The Honda CRF 80 is a small-displacement dirt-bike aimed at younger riders or beginners learning throttle control and basic off-road skills. Its low seat height and mild power make it a common stepping stone before moving to larger bikes.
Car
Honda CRF 100
"Like a Honda CRF 80 and then a Honda CRF 100
[1156.6s] But decided to put him on the 85"
The Honda CRF 100 is a slightly bigger dirt bike than the CRF 80. It gives new riders a bit more power, but it’s still meant to be controllable while you learn.
The Honda CRF 100 is a step-up small dirt bike (bigger than the CRF 80) that’s still commonly used for early training. It offers more power and speed than the 80, which helps riders progress while staying on a manageable platform.
"Um, number three educate yourself on tyre pressures. Mm-hmm number two"
Tyre pressure is how much air is in your tires. The right pressure helps the tire grip the road and stay stable, especially when conditions change.
Tyre pressures are the air pressures inside your tires, and they strongly affect grip, braking, and ride comfort. Off-road and different terrains often call for different pressures to balance traction and sidewall support.
"Educate yourself on how to operate your car. So how to engage low range full drive like vehicle specs and that kind of stuff and number one"
Low range is a 4WD mode that makes the car move slower but with more pulling power. It’s meant for tricky terrain where you need careful control, not speed.
“Low range” is a setting on many 4WD transfer cases that reduces gear ratios for slow-speed control. It’s used for steep climbs, descents, and low-traction situations because it gives more torque at the wheels and better control at crawl speeds.
"Leave no trace principles. Yep
[1408.6s] like that
[1410.4s] Which I think is good."
“Leave no trace” means you try not to harm the environment when you camp or travel outdoors. You take your rubbish with you and avoid leaving things behind.
“Leave no trace” is an outdoor ethics approach that aims to minimize your impact on nature. It typically means packing out trash, avoiding damage to vegetation and soil, and leaving campsites and tracks as you found them.
"... do that That's one thing but acknowledging other land cruiser drivers. I've been better. I've improved. Yeah of..."
The Toyota Land Cruiser is a large 4-wheel-drive SUV made to handle rough roads and off-road trails. People talk about it a lot because it’s designed to last and keep working even when conditions are tough. In this episode, it’s mentioned in the context of other Land Cruiser drivers and how things have improved.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is a full-size 4WD SUV built for serious off-road capability and long-distance durability. It’s significant in 4WD conversations because it’s commonly associated with rugged terrain, towing, and dependable use over many years. The podcast context suggests the hosts are discussing Land Cruiser drivers and experiences, which is typical for a model that has a dedicated owner community.
"...sn't set up like I am now with my like we had the ranger and it was all Yeah, I had an awning and we had w..."
The Ford Ranger is a pickup truck that’s often used for work and trips. People commonly add camping gear to it, like an awning, so it can be a comfortable base outdoors. In this episode, it’s brought up as part of someone’s vehicle setup for getting out and using the outdoors.
The Ford Ranger is a mid-size pickup truck commonly used for work and outdoor activities, including camping and light off-road driving. It’s a frequent topic in 4WD discussions because owners often set them up with accessories like awnings and other gear for trips. In this podcast excerpt, the Ranger is mentioned alongside camping-style setup details, which highlights how it’s used as a practical base for outdoor travel.

I feel good. Yeah. Yeah, it's nice winning winning. Winning is better than losing. Yeah
But no, it's a good good win for the lads. Very nice big week this week
How are you going? going with that looking forward? Oh, yeah?
I am very much not to talk too much footy very much so I'm for it. Yeah. Well, so those that don't know
We are going to Melbourne to play Collingwood this week and in that game Scott Pendlebury
We'll be breaking the all-time games record for AFL
VFL history, so he will be playing his 433rd game of AFL footy, which is incredible
Happens to fall on the day that we are scheduled to play Collingwood, which is massive for our group because
There's probably two days of the year where you're going to get a bigger crowd as this and that's the Grand Final and
Anzac day
Crowds, so they're expecting I think 90,000 plus which is which is big
You boys wouldn't have played in front of that for like your all young boys wouldn't have played in front of that
So obviously 2018 Premiership player mate. Yep. Yeah way back when but no, that's so it's a big
Big week like great opportunity for us like where it's huge, but it's obviously a game that we want to go over and try to win so
But excited excited to be a part of it great celebration for Pendlebury like it's a massive achievement. That's yeah, it's huge
Well, it's interesting that you went down the Pendlebury path because I was thinking more along the lines
It's Harleys 50 is Harleys 50. Yeah, so our one of our up and coming stars
There's not many people probably know much about footy who listen to us, but yeah, well Harley is an up and coming star for us
He played an unbelievable game on the weekend probably the best game of his career so far that was game 49
It's a game 50 this week in Pendlebury's
433d pretty big you guys doing anything for Harley getting a lot doing oh for 50 games
I don't know sure no, I don't yeah, I don't really doing that
But no they usually for 50 games like you might get on the banner or we'll definitely celebrate it internally 50 games
There's no and Harley's done it really quickly too. So he has been a good 50 games. Yeah
But that's yeah, that's enough about footy money. No, I think that's enough
On the radar. Yep. This came across the desk and it's just it's it's a little bit not
full driving four by four in camping, but it is
The bath is 1000. Yeah, 2026
1000 you big that supercars guy. I used to be around him. I used to be quite into it. Yeah. Yeah, definitely Bathurst
Yeah, I'd watch that everyone gets around
religiously not not the whole obviously thousand kilometers, but oh really you don't watch the whole thing
I wouldn't sit down all day. I'd have to be the day that I'd have it on
Mm-hmm. Yeah, it is one of the ones you have it on the background sold out in less than 90 minutes and now that's campsites
Yeah, right campsites for the bath is 1000 sold out in less than 90 on been unusual
I think like yeah, they had 90% of
people who went last year in
2025 renew, which is a big number like I don't think you normally get quite that high retention rate
But yeah, October 8th to 11th Bathurst 1000. I'm assuming they camping spots sold out already. I'm assuming they have
like gigs and music and
Sort of activations in those camping sites or around the
You know around the place, you know what I actually don't know
I don't know what I would assume that you would like it'd be a big event. It'd be a spectacle
There's three days of driving you'd see quite a bit of cars on the track. Have you ever been on F1?
No, I've been no, I haven't heard them. I've been like in Melbourne while it's happening
Yeah, and it's about like we've been over there for 40 whilst it's on there. Yeah, it's all happening
But I haven't I haven't been to a race. No, yeah, I assume it would be pretty similar to an issue go to the sprint cars in back of smash
Yep, yep, you should do that in Newman you should go out to the to the rally cars up there
This is a big wise. Yeah, well, they do all the drags drags
Speedwise with the big. Yeah, the little cars with the big spoilers. Yeah, I don't know what they're called
Yeah, I don't know what they're called either, but that's about as much as those ones motocross tracks
Big one down there
What's at the moment? I mean we told it on patreon last week, but we are trying to do a I feel like we should get one of the boys from
The Dakotu was on here DACA too. Yeah, I I agree. I feel like it'd be a decent chat and
It just be it would be so good to be on one of those trips, wouldn't it?
Dream yeah, just even I'm thinking about
Rod and bike all day
sit down
Fire feed cut the beers. Oh
With with whoever you're with randoms family friends. Yeah, like four days of solid riding
beautiful parts of the world put WA more so because it's a company over here, but
Yeah, there's something about that. They're really so speaking of the
Well, yeah first
So a lot of no, would they go to Bathurst or Phillip Island?
They would do I think they would do both my uncle's sometimes that brought their bikes up
I'm pretty sure it was to Bathurst. Maybe I feel a pile and when they had the Moto GP there
Yeah, Phillip Island in Victoria
They'd rock they'd ride their bikes to that camp for the three nights
Do that whole trip so that that's been something that they've done which I've never joined on but would love to I
Would love to do that. I don't my my dad rode from
Albany up to
To Perth with with one of his best mates and his brother when when they were younger. Yeah, and I'm just like off-road
Yeah, well, this is like back in the day. So it wasn't as much of that
Freeway stuff that goes up now, but it would have been like mostly off-road
He dad would have had a
Honda
XR 600 oh, she's still got it by the way and like I've ridden that and
Like a big safari tank on it a lot big not a massive tank. It's got it's got a bigger tank on it
I think but it's maybe come stock with one of those. Yeah, they are
Because they're like well dad used to do a lot of enduro riding like the old
Back in the day like you go off-road and you know, you just go go for ages
I actually did it when I was a young fellow with it like not
Enjoy, but like on like a little 50 CC bike was just like follow what six-year-old me out there. It's nice. Yeah
But yeah, I think make the right in the bike thing like that's probably like one of my favorite parts of
Forward right like it's not for driving
Getting on the bike and just going out bush and just like getting lost
Going down some some skinny tracks that you see like you find something you just go explore it and come back. Yeah
Yeah, that's
Unbelievable it is something you haven't done a lot of it in the recent years. Have you?
I haven't done I haven't ridden bikes in so long from the most recent bike. I had was a KTM 300
EXE six days one. Yeah, that was wicked
I just I'm not a big fan of the two strokes like I prefer the four stroke bikes
But two strokes are wicked fun wicked fun. But yeah, that's the last time I did it
I would go over towards the hills in
Also, that was a place that it's called Metro Road. Oh, you can go over there and just yeah ride tracks
A lot of people go out there, but last time I was in a bike. I am actually came off. Did ya? Yeah
Yeah, my brother did the same. Oh, I actually know the last bike I rode was a 450 Honda
For stroke and my brother rode it. It's his bike. He got so much. How's this?
bought this 450 brand-new
Honda mm-hmm
Took it out like CRF for CRF 450 race bike like proper race bike
And I don't know if you ever touched one or like no much about it
But those are incredibly powerful bikes like my last one was a to like a KX 250 for stroke
Yeah, okay, right still powerful. Yeah, very powerful bikes. So we had the four stroke took it out for a ride one day without telling anyone
Didn't even tell anyone he had the bike by the way actually just came home hit it hit it and then went out there with the bike
Went to like a track with his mates spent five minutes riding came off broke his leg never rode it again sold it
Fair enough. Mm-hmm broke his leg think going over a tabletop. Oh jump in it
We're trying to
Not quite successful. Yeah, it wasn't great for early landed. He well
He had a shimming the bike wasn't underneath him when he did though. Oh the bike
Geez, who knows where the bike was? I think he landed on the back wheel coming down
On the tabletop and then it spun out like over the top of him and it's flipped him off
Anyway, I've been watching this is way off track. So not for driving walking. Yeah, I'm talking on air
I've been watching quite a bit of Travis Pastrana's YouTube channel
Good is Travis Pastrana. I think after you watch Jim. Connor
What was that Jim? Connor Jim. Connor Jim. Connor. It's like it's
Travis Pastrana has been doing it recently, but it used to be
Oh the
The guy who he passed away recently
Jim Kana
Is that like a thing or another person? No, it's like it's a type of
motorsport
thing
and it's like rallying they just do like the fastest time possible across say
across a
Custom kind of track, but they do this series on YouTube for like once a year
They'll like go and do a video with like Red Bull or something and it's just them like driving through city streets
They close a whole bunch of stuff down and it's like drifting along doing jumps over like boats and whatnot. It's wicked
It is unreal. I just feel like everything Travis Pastrana does is pretty pretty sick. Yeah, it is
Anyway, keep going you've been watching Travis Pastrana
Yeah, I know I was just saying like he just got me in the mood from last week's conversation about motorbikes and then
I was sitting at home one day and
Yeah, Travis Pastrana was just on
Somehow just kept playing, but I was like there's actually an elite YouTube channel
So many good videos. Yeah, Ken Block Ken. I was thinking Ken block Ken block
KEN space block
Figured. Yeah, I just it wasn't Ken block in life
Ken block and then he passed away and then Travis Pastrana took over but
Yeah, a bit of a
Series kind of there you go. Oh, I could be getting that. Yeah, so completely wrong. No
Anyway, go and have a look at Travis Pastrana if you're into that sort of shit. Yeah, did you watch the
Crusty daemons and all that growing up? Yeah, it's Crusty daemons. Yeah. Yeah, cool
I used to go to the like nitro circus where I'm like Foxki. Yeah, like really?
Oh, I wasn't a hardcore motorbike. No, I just a full kid. Wow, boats and everything. Hey, well, I was I loved it
I was riding to it. I wasn't I never raced or anything like that
We always had bicycle enough it was just it was sort of something we loved doing. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I think I think now
I miss it a lot of family. Yeah, I miss it a lot. Oh, so much probably I'd probably ride three days back. Well
That's enough for me. But yeah, it's just I think because you can't I haven't done it in so long
I sort of can't almost mm-hmm that you want to
You just you want to do it. Yeah. Oh, it's one of those things
It's just a bucket list item for me to just do it. I think it's a great combination
Love to film that and just like put it up
Yeah, because I think you'll be able to get places on a motorbike that you won't be able to get a car to
You'll be able to camp in some unreal spots. Yeah, depending on and I think for people that are
Even like before driving camping. It's all the same. Like it's just getting out there. But this is such another like
Even for people that I suppose aren't into riding motorbikes or don't know how
Maybe it's something to like I'm assuming if you get a group say you're doing one of these tours
I'm assuming if the group is fairly
And what what would be good to get one of those blokes on because
Say it was a beginner group
Like you could all ride to that pace. I'm assuming
You know what I mean? Like you're not gonna be holding anyone up
Yeah, I've seen some of these tours and some of the riders are incredible
but they're just out there having a good time popping monos and
The average speed of 80 k's an hour like that's what it looks like on some of the videos
But I'm assuming if you've got a group together that like it would be a great experience
I think for anyone that does enjoy their full driving and camping to go and see it on two wheels
Yeah, I agree and I think so. Yeah to either one. You already know how to ride and it's it's all sweet, but
To learn and to it's right. It's pretty easy riding a motorbike. Yeah, like it's easy to say that for someone that's done it, but
It is it's not too hard
Wow, I think I think the I don't know is do you reckon it's got a steep learning curve?
No, maybe we shouldn't go that far into this because I feel like it would go forever
No, no, no, just I don't know. I think it does, but I think that's like very much where you I think you can figure it out
I think you're riding a motorbike taking off on a motorbike changing gears on a motorbike
Turning around on a motorbike you'd pick up in 20 minutes if you'd never sat on one before
Yeah, one of my if you can ride a bike one of my best and you've met a Rory who does work for Ronnie
Yeah, now and again the first time he
Rode a motorbike was at my house. I put him on a like 85 cc2 stroke. Well, yeah
And an older Yamaha. Yeah, not the best bike to learn on but it was you know, we had
Well, yeah, but like it wasn't all we had there was a
I think there was a 80 cc4 stroke
Like a Honda CRF 80 and then a Honda CRF 100
But decided to put him on the 85
100 modded
Yeah, I can't actually remember if we had those at the time or not
But anyway, it was on this 85 and obviously a two stroke has got the power band
You can hit quite quickly. I did tell him about it and warn him about it
That would shock you if you'd never if you didn't know what that was. Yeah, and they're they're
Yeah, anyway, so we're
I'm teaching him how to ride it and he's
Let the clutch out too quickly
And obviously the right hand's gone back
And what happens when the right hand goes back and the clutch goes is that the bike just goes straight up in the air
So the bike's gone straight up in the air with him on it. And that's his first experience
Riding a bike but now he rides bikes all the time. I think a lot of people
Yeah, even like I've seen
It's probably more with the clutch, but even some of the bikes without them that you can just
You know, but some people will just freak once they start going and they just can't like the bike starts to get away
The bike goes away and your risk goes further back. You're right. Um, and I've seen that happen. I saw a one bloke who was
Oh, it was must have been like a CRF 70 not a massive bike. We were young
and uh
He was like a
He must I don't know if he's like an Irishman or something who was out with some family like some extended family and he was visiting
and he was on the bike and
That happened to him. I don't know how because it could barely kick a mouse off a CRF 70
But then it's kicked him off and I just remember him like
Bending that the back like fender of the bike. I just see I remember seeing that get wrenched back and I'm watching my like pride and joy
Just go to the ground and I'm like, oh
Wait, I'm like 10
I don't rule me bike
Some stupid bikes just rule me bike, but anyway
By um, I got one more my brother. Oh, no people are well and truly gone now. This is
This is all right, mate. We um
Do you want me to tell it? I don't know. I'll move on. I'm happy. Okay. I'm just
I'm just happy. There's 20 minutes. Um motorbike chat. Oh, it's all good. It's just chat. Um, the two will drive podcast
Yeah, the two will drive podcast, hey
Uh, when he was first learning to ride a bike, he got on this like Suzuki
50 cc bike no clutch. No anything just like a front brake a
Rear brake on the on the floor. No changing gears. No none of that
Anyway, he's he's sitting on this bike and dad's like holding him up
walking along with him like kind of jogging with him as he goes and um
He's like going along. It's like down this alleyway
So we've got this house our house is on the left then an alleyway in between us and then the house next to us
And then you go down the alleyway behind our house is this big dirt kind of this is in you
Pit in you and um, so we're riding around on the dirt out there
And josh turns around dad's with him still josh turns around facing towards the the alleyway and our houses
Or our house and the house next door to us not our houses. Sorry the houses um, and he
For some reason the right hand just goes back
And the bike just it's a 50 cc. It's not going that fast, but dad's not really keeping up to he's not he's not expecting it
Bang taken off straight into the neighbour's fence
Split the um
Corrigation fence. Yeah, and uh, he's just sitting there on the bike upright completely upright stuck in the fence
Just crying his eyes out screaming and it's
Can you imagine being the neighbours in the backyard there this like little kid just got
Hello
Screaming
Yeah, it can be dangerous. So maybe maybe maybe it's not as easy as what I thought
Well, I mean it was also a child at the same time. Um, last week we asked
For three of the most of three of your top on your top three common sense items. That's what we asked for
Got some good stuff back got some good stuff back in the youtube comments
So it will start in no particular order, but 40 media ryan
Who was our cameraman on the trip um hit him up if you need any?
Yeah, any videography or anything he is a gun
Um, number three educate yourself on tyre pressures. Mm-hmm number two
Educate yourself on how to operate your car. So how to engage low range full drive like vehicle specs and that kind of stuff and number one
Leave no trace principles. Yep
like that
Which I think is good. I think those are three pretty solid solid common sense ones. Yep
Um, chris moorhouse says number three
The wave. Yep. Yeah, love that. Love the wave got a wave today. Yep. I let someone in did not expect it because for the past
Couple weeks every time I've let someone in haven't got a wave. So I've been doing these ones. Oh, I got yep. Thanks, mate
No worries two in a row the other all absolutely yet. Let you in one of them is my neighbor
Oh, we're not like my direct neighbor, but from my street. You know what the good thing about that is
I can leave him a note
I'm not gonna be doing that, but it hurt
Had hurt
Gotta call that out, mate. That's bad behavior
to be self sustainable
Yeah, and number one clean up after yourself. Yeah, so you're seeing that you're seeing a common thing number one has been the same trend
Yeah, you're seeing it. You're seeing a common theme
The next 13 This is a little bit
Different but three items that I take camping and I wouldn't be without them
So kind of common sense ones but a bit more bit away number one snake bike hit
Yep, very important. Number two a alb emergency locator beacon. Yep
And number three mind flatable mattress as I need a good night's sleep
There you go. And off the back of our sleep talk a few weeks ago. Mm-hmm pretty important
Betting pretty important. So he's the best former. Um, Shane Clark number one keep the australia beautiful pick up after yourself
Leave only footprints double down common. That's triple down. Yep. It is number two look out for everyone
Especially in remote areas and help people when they need it
Love it. Yep. Number three respect others at campsites. Keep your noise to a minimum
Especially later at night. Don't camp on top of people in personal space. Don't be a bogey. Yeah, I like that that came through a little bit too
Yeah, there was a few of those. That's that's a great
Those three common sense approaches are really good. I think for four driving camping as a whole. Yeah
Really good. Yeah, I think I think it's quite important. Um, and we'll go this last one from Sean Christie
Sean out
Fan of the pod Sean and uh, we're a fan of Sean's
So number one
clean up after yourself
And others if you have to leave it better than you found it many hands make light work great saying
Know your vehicle and your capability. So this is
Similar to what Ryan is saying and Ryan's similar to what Sean's saying. Um, know your vehicle
This means less damage to your vehicle the track and your pride
And the last one don't be a dick
With about five exclamation marks pretty self-explanatory
Don't be a dick
Did you have time to think about your your top three kind of common sense ones? I sort of did and they are
They stem from those sort of like
Round the mark. I do like the one
A very much a camping one, but just don't camp right on top of others. Yeah
Salty spoke about it too like when he had to move on that. Oh, yeah, that's how you ended up on the south
Wherever it was, but
That one I liked when I was reading through I liked that one
I like don't camp on top of each other. Yeah, if you're in a big enough space and you don't need to I think that's a big one
um
But a lot yeah a lot of it stemmed from
Like common courtesy in the car. I know that was what what are we breaking down is what's common sense there, but
Uh, the friendly wave
Um to be courteous that is
I saw a sign actually the other day. Maybe they'd been listening maybe put like
Maybe department of transport and roads was listening to the podcast because on a lit up um
Mobile signage. Yeah, there was be courteous on our roads
And I was like they've been listening to the pod they've been listening to the pod they had to have been and and good
Good fair enough listen to the podcast
Um, but yeah, it's around that. I think the to clean up stuff keep it tidy
Better than you've left better than you came left. It is pretty is pretty good. I reckon that's yeah
I reckon everyone's bang on there many hands. Good engagement work
Like it really like that, but I'm big on the wave at the moment massive. Oh, I couldn't be bigger on the wave
I just it frustrates me so much
You let someone in or you do something nice or courteous or whatever and you don't get a wave you just
Yeah, it's just
Not that hard to just throw a hand up. Yeah, and I've been throw the hand I've been better myself at uh, I always do that
That's one thing but acknowledging other land cruiser drivers. I've been better. I've improved. Yeah off my past week's performance
Which I
Haven't received a wave back all the time, which is fine because I did that once. Um,
But I've been trying pretty hard, but now you know
Well, now I'm very aware. Yeah, I've reflected. I'm
extremely self-aware now in that sense and I am
Almost going a little bit too over as potentially maybe they're like, yeah, that's too much. Oh, he's waving too much
Yeah, what are you doing one of these ones? No, no, you're not doing these ones. I'm mortgaged it the full wrist
I'm trying to keep it as cool. Yeah
My mate taco plays the um, like act cool game when he's out on the night out sometimes just for 20 seconds
You got to act as cool as you can. Oh, yeah. Um, I kind of do that when I'm waving
Okay, it's like nonchalant, but it's like it's there. You got to see it. Okay. So like go on like you're driving along
Well act as cool as you can
Where's my steering wheel? Like I'm just like say I'm driving along. Yeah, like one hand or the gear stick sort of thing
Not even meant to do that. Yeah, I might just be like
Uh, that's pretty nonchalant
It's pretty cool
That's pretty cool. That is pretty cool. Fuck you
Pretty cool. Um
I like that. Thanks for that though to the listeners. No, yeah, thank you. YouTube comments wherever they were
The ones for me
Oh, yeah, sorry. I didn't ask your opinion. No, that's right. And I didn't expect you to. Um, just because you're not a
particularly not nice bloke or courteous and we had to tell you about the wave
So I didn't really expect it, but it's all good. Uh
For me, no, sorry, mate. You actually are. No, that's fine. No, I don't go for it.
Carol, sorry.
Oh
Yeah, what's been going on with that actually before we get into this you've been champing me a lot today
Oh, that's all I need to hide it. So I was like, I'm gonna oh, I'll keep going with this. Yeah
Yeah, didn't that's all right. That's all right. I actually quite like it. So you can keep doing it
That's what I've always said that
Clean up after yourself was a massive one and I took that from a few of these boys clean up after yourself
When when approaching a blind corner on a four-wheel drive track like honking the horn
Or making some kind of like putting your sand flag up doing whatever to let someone know that you're there. Yeah, not just
Speeding around the corner a bit like our friend exactly
Um, not just speeding around the corner, but actually like slowing down honking the horn
Making sure that there isn't another car coming because as we said la what a couple weeks ago common sense like
Almost there's good that always assume that there's going to be another car always assume
Always assume there's going to be another car coming and then obviously
Number three the wave. Yeah, just common courtesy. I think just wave. I think the wave is number one. I'm on
Oh, and it's almost more on-road stuff
Look, I love the wave, but I think
Cleaning up after yourself is just a little bit higher for me on that on that list because I think that's a really
Big common sense to you hate going to campsites and they're just
Filthy or like there's glass everywhere. And like, you know, you've got smashed bottles
Speaking of um
All that this is going completely off topic now
Because we've we've been on topic the entire time. So yeah, have we oh, this is kind of on topic anyway
Have we heard from Ronnie?
No, we jumped him didn't we because we came we did jump him. So we I did give him a text today on the trip
He is on the trip. I was just thinking like campsites
And yeah, right, uh, I know. Yeah
Um, look by the time this this podcast comes out, we may have got a video and if we do it's playing right now
Nice, or maybe it's not it's probably not could not be but we allow for a pause just in case
No, it could be now could have just played thanks for joining us could have not just played
Could be playing now. I'm confused anyway
um
No, so
The next one I was going to talk about
And I've lost the message here, but this is from Paul Gert
Message us. Oh, no, sorry. This is from Cooper sheriff. He's message just on instagram. What happened to paul?
No, we're going to get to paul paul's a later message
Cooper message just on instagram and said hey guys. I'm wondering what's happened to the ultimate full drive section
I love the podcast and since starting my apprenticeship this year. I've listened to every episode from number one
Wow, I'm up to episode about episode 98 and listening to the new apps as they come out
And have been missing the ultimate full drive segment. I'd love to send my
Collie in if it is something that is still happening
It can be happening. Thanks guys
look
Why did we stop the ultimate full drive section segment because it just became no, we I know exactly why go
Oh, you probably do too. No, no go. It's my turn. I'm young. I felt like
We we were struggling
the ultimate full drive we loved
and we loved seeing
like people sending in
their pride and joys
but we found it
Every week we found it a little bit hard, which this is what we didn't do
We didn't follow through with doing it every now and then which we said we would do which we did followed through
So that's our fault
But we did say it was a little bit hard each and every week because it would take five to ten minutes to dissect the car
But if you weren't watching
Yeah, if you're just listening to us we got to describe this car
Yeah, and it just probably didn't give a great picture to where a majority of our audience is which is
listening so
We found it a little bit hard
But I do think it's something that we should lean back into because I really enjoyed it and I think if it's every now and then
I don't think the listeners would mind too much and I think we we get to really
But pick and choose and make it really deliberate on what ones we want to get out there
which
Hopefully we've got a few stacked up. We've got about 10
Oh, right that we haven't seen so going all the way back to
May 13th of May right so a year we've
I've been sitting on this. Oh
Yeah, anyway, I like it. I think it's something we should bring back just this as a as a
As a team meeting having right now. Yeah, okay. Is it as a team of tours? Yep at the moment
Yeah, I think ultimate forward drive should make a comeback once every now and then
um
Yeah, I agree. No, I agree
I agree. I'd love to know what you guys thought about the
The ultimate forward drive segment just like whether you as a listener or as a viewer like whether you thought that was
That was worth doing or not, but I think it's I enjoyed it
I actually really enjoyed looking at other people's cars and you get a lot of ideas from it. Yeah ideas is the best part
Yeah, definitely. Uh, you know what? We'll bring it back. Uh, are the next week or the week after?
We'll start to send them back in. Yeah, we've got a few we have a few ready to go
But if one trumps it then you're on I want to get back into that 100%
What I want to get back into
Is forward driving camping as in doing it as in like doing it or just giving myself the time to
You should do it like I've out of you and I have the time I do
Because you've like you go to the pub on Tuesday
One o'clock like I know I could have just gone camping. You just missed your opportunity
To go to the pub and have a coke zero on a Guinness. I know and a party. Yeah, the party was good
But anyway, I do I do want to get back into it and I was gonna gonna ask you where would you be going now?
If you're going away for an overnighter
Um, or just like a day trip or something. Where whereabouts would you be heading in in Perth?
Would you be going north south or maybe towards the hills right now these hills? Yeah, why is that?
uh
I think
I don't know. I just feel like
I haven't had a lot of bush lately
Yeah, okay, too much beach. Yeah, too much. No, not even too much beach, but just I miss ze bush
As a zohar would say ze bush as a fizzy bobble there. Um, oh, anyway, I'd love. Yeah, I think nice little creek
A bit of water somewhere in the bush green trees. Do I think up?
Well, just anywhere just anyway, just give me some trees and some
Hills and some yeah, there's so much time enjoying up a little bit. Yeah. Yeah, don't have a camp in there
Enjoyed it over there. Yeah, love you gone down the
the
Pretty hectic tracks or not hectic but like no, I haven't done down to get to the creek. I have there's yeah one
Once campsite. I've been to was a little bit sketchy
Nothing too. I I don't that was years ago. I don't know what it'd be like now
Yeah, it would be a bit scary in the cruise. I reckon. Yeah, like heavy. Yeah, okay
um
I think I'd go bush. Where would you go?
I would go north
towards somewhere with a beach
But I am we are coming towards the end of
Where it's warm still like we're heading into into cold territory, which is
It's not great. I have a fire and it's getting if the wind's not down
Well, that's what I was going to say is the is it's getting less windy coming into less windy in order
For sure. So yeah, it might be nice to go north like around now. I might be might be nice to just go a couple hours out of
Perth and he got yeah find a night, which I don't actually have
Yeah, I don't have a night this week, but next week. I think I've got a couple nights and I might go
I might just go go north somewhere. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah
Oh, I never know. Yeah, I'll send you some photos. Now. Let me know when you go and I'll see how I go
Okay, if you're gonna go you're gonna. I will go. Yeah. Yeah. I went uh, are you
Home? Hmm you home next week? Hmm
Right, so you're away this week and then you're home next week. What do you know what day you play? Hmm Saturday?
Sunday. Hmm. Okay
Tough
Tough for you to get out. Why? Well, you're playing
Hmm wouldn't it be hard for you? Oh, you're gonna go on the weekend. Well, I was gonna say
Yeah, I do you want to go during the we week actually
Well, I can't go for two. I can't go for too long during the week as probably you can't yeah, no
So anyway, let me know. Okay. No, we'll let we'll tell you something. Um, because I don't think it's that
I don't think it should be that hard to get out. No, I wouldn't at all. Um, how do you go? How are you?
How you go with um with soli?
You're taking him on any trips yet? No, no anything over night. You know, you know where I've been you know
I'm all all the time
I've been anywhere. I know where you are, but like no, I haven't I don't think I would camp with him just yet
I don't think I'd be
How old is soli at the moment 45 months? Yeah, okay. And what are you looking at? Maybe off season just go on
Yeah, I actually got a figure. I haven't even looked into it
I haven't even thought about it because I know I chatted the Ronnie about it early on
Like we've got a
Like a swag that probably wouldn't fit
You know, I don't really have a swag that fits
Two of us let alone three of us
Like rooftop 10 maybe
Like you go down that path at the moment. Yeah, I don't know. Is that feasible?
Well, just a big tent really. Yeah, okay. Then I've got to think about what are we sleeping on? Yeah
Spends our easy sleep you could do the swag sleeping bag in the swag
Pillow in the car and I'm done
But now I haven't even really got there. It's a good point actually. Yeah, haven't really
I figured it would just be me camping for a little bit of time
So maybe that's why I need to get into it. If there are
Like tips with babe like camping with babies. I think I've asked before but
Like what are you guys camping in with young ones?
Um, because I'd love to have a crack at it in the off season
It solely will be a little bit older. So it'd be fine, but
And and we'd make do like you'd make do. Oh, definitely
With whatever you've got, but I think the advice that we've been getting from
Whenever whenever we've asked his question of of people is like, how do you travel with kids and family and that kind of stuff?
Especially when you asked of Ronnie, it was just like, hey, you just got to get out there and do it. Yeah
Just got to get out and do it prepare as much as you can. You just have to go
Because I don't know what you
I don't know how much you can actually prepare for
No, that's definitely just a sleeping around. You have to do it. He sleeps in a little cot
like
I'd probably just pencil myself in for an average night's sleep, which I always do on the first night of camping anyway. So
Yeah, well, I think we've got a fix to that. Don't we wouldn't be any. Oh, we do now. Yeah
We do now, but uh, anyway, I don't know. Well, let's see how we go
But I would love to go for the quick overnight or some somewhere with with your good self. Oh, mate
I'd absolutely be a pleasure. Like we could take the mics and just do it out there. Yeah. Yeah, definitely
Oh, if we're out there, we're definitely gonna go take it. Yeah, we'll see. I don't know.
Okay. Yeah, sweet. No, don't let me know. I'm actually excited. I can't pencil myself in
But we'll we'll line it up. You never know. We'll line it up. Um, all right, should we move to
Around the fire please. Okay
Do you like me just going? Hmm. Yeah, you're not you're not giving me much, mate
I'm sitting over here talking to a microphone. Hmm, and you're just going. It's you know, no, you you ask me a question
What have we got for around the fire pit, mate?
Can't you can't can you he got to answer that with words? It's a clever question. Hmm
All right. Um, this one is from
Trav on instagram. He says, where's the last place you drove that actually surprised you?
Hmm
Oh, like that little troop body to like that little day trip to 2j
Where you went into where I was on private land
But thinking I was still on
A road or a mapped road. Yep
Like it's funny. You just you're driving on the highway
Or on 2j road say and it's which is basically a highway and you're like, yep
Driven this multiple times. This gets me to
here
but turn off and I
effectively I wasn't meant to be there but
But as we we drove it was just it was magic like you literally I could
Probably hear the traffic from the road if I listened out where I was so I wasn't far off but
It was like it was just it surprised me because all of a sudden I've got a vantage point
I can't see the road. I can't see any other cars. I've got a farmhouse in the background
I've got some crops going in trees behind me
Like no bitumen around and it was just I don't know. It's like I was like, oh, I've been to 2j a thousand times
I love it here. It's a beautiful park beautiful little town. The river's there. It's all you know, I know
Around there. I mean we got married out there. We like around there. We love that part so much, but yeah
This like a just a new little track that we took and found and I was just like that
Yeah, you don't have to go far. There's probably the thing but I was yeah that that I loved it. It was like it was this
Hard to explain and I can't tell you to go there because you're not allowed
But it was like just it went up a little ridge line and it had this beautiful view
Tucked around into some trees and then once I sort of dropped down into another valley
It was like well now there's now it's just me in the world, you know, it's pretty cool
So that surprised me. Jeez. Yeah
Um
Geez what's the last one that surprised me
Twilight Cove
On our gumball trip. Yeah, that's
To to actually surprise me that was the last
To actually give me like a whoa
Yeah, because wow like we had such high expectations for that area
So to still surprise us was pretty cool. Well to rock up there at night. Yeah almost better. Yeah
Because then you wake up and you're like
Yeah, but you you did get a really good sense of
Like you you just knew you were in for something special and then
You got the fire and the fire's bouncing off the walls and the colors are unbelievable rides out there taking photos
Like potentially going missing. Yeah, I should sit. We're sitting around the fire. Absolutely exhausted
I think from from the day just gone. Wow like
What that was cool. What is that out? What are you putting that next party out?
Soon right you're telling me you got no time and I'm gonna double down again. You've been at the pub all day
Put the video out for the people and me
I want to see for the people and me
I'm actually this is gonna excite you. Um, you know how I was having a real issue with music. Yeah
Found or I got told I got recommended this website. Um that you can get mainstream kind of music
And license it
Got
Got some good songs off there though
Some good are you dropping them down on this video? Oh, they're coming out on the video. It's giving me a new
Like put some fresh wind in my sails. Yeah edit in the video. I'm like, oh now I can use songs that I like that like
Yeah, yeah, I want to see this. Oh, I can't I'm sort of like I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm sick of waiting
No
I'm sick of you waiting. I know you're busy. No, obviously not. No, you're obviously not that busy. Yeah, see now you're like
It's culture. Um, we're all about culture. Have we got another another round of story?
Have you ever turned back mid-trip? What
happened
if you did uh, that's from
Dusty Dan
Dusty Dan, um, I haven't turned like fully back and headed home
If that's the like but I've I've had plans so trip years ago with Lauren
we had plans to stay out in the like, um
Like so we're up in like Shark Bay area France. Oh, Perron National Park
We had plans to go out and stay and camp out there in the campsites
Um, we're all around the beach and stuff like that
Um, but it was when we got there the weather wasn't too kind to us
um
And it was like
Yeah blowing an absolute gale. We couldn't find protection. Mm-hmm. And we just felt a little bit like
We didn't have a lot we wasn't set up like I am now with my like we had the ranger and it was all
Yeah, I had an awning and we had we're in the swag and yeah, it was all
Actually, we might have been rooftop 10 at that stage. It was all um, sweet, but we yeah, we opted to
Back out of there
So we got out like or not out to the top top
But we got we went in a fair way had a look around and when
We just didn't like the feel of it when we got there
So we backed out and went into denim and just booked a night or two at the um one of the
accommodations there
So that that happened there and I reckon I've probably
Yeah, I've probably gotten close a couple of times to like
Getting home and I've probably just skipped a night camping and pushed on to get there
So that that's probably the only real times I've thought of that
That's probably the main one where I've turned out of like a campsite
Or a campground and been like no, I'm gonna I'm gonna back out of this one. Yeah done
Um, I don't think I've ever turned around on a trip
Just hard cool. Yeah, just pretty
I'm here. Um
Now closest of I haven't turned around but we've drove up to
Lucky Bay Shacks in Yalaba Thara. Mm-hmm. Uh once was heading up there
And Yalaba Thara. Yalaba Thara. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that. Yeah
The one like near Port Gregory
Yeah, I've just passed uh durian and all that
Like past Jero
Yeah
Yeah
Yalaba Thara Yalaba Thara
Anyway, anyway, that's how you get bogged down in names. There you go. I didn't know it was called that. Not nice. The
Where was I? Oh, yeah, we so drove up there and get to the entrance. Yeah closed. Oh, yeah, so apparently they just it was like
Uh, when was this would have been
Actually would have been around end of May
Maybe and we drove up there went to turn in it was closed because of flooding
Um, so oh, yeah, it all like board over. Yeah
Come over like the rain had just filled it up and and why not? I had to turn around
From that but like that wasn't really a oh like halfway there and then turn around
Yeah, you should have called me. I could have gone to craig the craig fisherman. He would have
Um, I did text you but you didn't reply to me. Um,
But it's fine. We we probably weren't probably didn't like me very much at that point. Um
at that point oh now
Um
Last one. Yep fun fact from kw of perth
The town is called coral bay, but the actual bay is called bill's bay. I saw this there's no bay
Actually called coral bay good up there great
fact great fact great intel great intel. So I um, I appreciate that because
Did it respectfully too didn't say you you dumb pricks you didn't yeah, you clowns not coral bay
It's a very politely done and I enjoy it. I enjoy being corrected that way. I I didn't know that because it's called bill's the um
The pub is called bill's isn't it? Yes. Yeah, and it makes it's bill's bay
So there's actually no place called coral bay is the town bill's bay is the bay water where the coral is
Interesting and very interesting. I like it the other way around wouldn't you?
Uh bill bay coral bay is the water. Yeah bill's bay is the town it does make a bit more sense
Oh, it's just bill's bay. I like what are you gonna do up there?
I'll just probably check out coral bay next time. So anytime we mention coral bay now. We have to call it bill's bay. Yeah bill's bay. I reckon okay
bill's bay
Popular spot in popular spot popular spot never heard of it. Yeah. What are you? You haven't been up there? You've seen the coral? Yeah, it's there
It's got a really cool place called coral bay in it coral bay tavern
They're gonna have to change a few things. You know what?
We start in a movement. Uh, no, we're absolutely renamed bill's bay. We're absolutely not. We're absolutely keep waving people
Um, that's it mate. Cool. It's all I've got love it
Uh, potentially we chat to ronnie potentially. We don't well. We won't chat he'll send something in but we might you might not have said
