Alright, yeah, Pete from WI Camming Adventures, basically just a little YouTube channel that

grew out of nothing, just grew out of like a yearly big mates camping trip.

Just started doing shit on the iPhone that I got and then I just started going from there

and then, yeah, I don't know, just grew into something else that I thought it was going

to grow into, which is a great thing.

But nah, just put stuff on YouTube, have a laugh, I'm a normal bloke, bricklayer by

day and father and husband by night.

That's it.

That is it.

I've no, nothing special like Salty and all the other guests.

So everyone else must have been busy.

Everyone's got something special about it.

That is a special part about you, mate.

And I'm not pissing in your pocket at all.

Elaborate a little bit more for us just quickly on, I suppose, because what you are, that's

what we'll start with and who you are is the channel and what we come to know you as.

So that was a yearly trip with mates kind of thing filming it.

What was the purpose of putting it out on YouTube in the first place though for you?

I do not know because the first video that I actually put on YouTube was just like when

I got there, my cruiser.

And it was, geez, I think I'm coming up to 10 years, which is wild, man.

But I put out a video, I basically just filmed it on this shitty little handheld Sony, you

call it like a, what are you used to call the old small digital cameras?

Like that, with the zoom where you hold the trigger and it zooms in.

Still using that numbing.

It's good quality.

Some of the rest don't like that over at Wackers.

No, just put that out and I think I might have got something like 30 views.

I'm like, oh, Jesus Christ, I'm on my way.

No, but I put that out and got a couple of comments and then I was like, oh, shit, I

might just like film like a little highlight reel of the Sandy Cape trip and put it out

on YouTube.

And then it just went from there, man.

And then I started just doing a little bit more.

And then one of the years at Sandy Cape, we, me and my cousin were taking the piss out

of like Ruthie, not in a bad way, just like he's cooking segments, having a laugh and that.

And I thought, man, this is great.

Like if I can get this and put this on screen, mint.

So yeah, that's where it come from.

It's gold.

Now we'll jump back a little bit just to start.

That's who you are and what you're doing now.

There is so much that I've got this massive big cloud in my head of where I want this

chat to be like, I want to pick the part.

But take us back to, like where you grew up and how maybe camping and this sort of thing

became a thing for you because I'm pretty bloody happy that it has because it was at

a time where the world was shut down a little bit.

I was living that through you.

But which I'll get into.

But yeah, take us through how did you get into it all, mate?

Like, is it growing up?

Oh, absolutely.

Yeah, growing up.

So I was born, no.

Go there.

I want to kill Amanda.

No, I grew up in Guilford.

Yeah, grew up in Guilford and now my old man used to have like a, sorry guys, a, an

XD station wagon or an XC it could have been anyway.

But we used to go out to 2J and like, I got two older brothers.

Used to sleep in the back of the car with him, catch yabbies and shit like that.

So no, it just went from there.

And then as soon as I got my license, just wild, just like I was not around.

I was out every week with the guys, you know, an old bandera like bought a bandera.

Well, I did my old man bought it for me.

Surprised me because I was doing my bricklaying apprenticeship.

Yeah.

And he goes, oh, can you get me something out of the shed?

Open up the shed.

And man, I cried like I was like, dad, thanks so much.

Yeah, yeah.

But he goes off.

That is unreal.

Yeah, yeah, old bandera anyway, full cylinder petrol.

And he goes, look, the only thing I'll get you this, but you've got to go up to the

bloke in Kalamunda and sign the transfer papers.

I said, he let you take it.

He's like, yeah, but it was back in a time, you know, all good.

The handshake was in a bit more trusted.

So I rocked up to this guy's hair and he's like, geez, you're old man really

screwed me down.

Yeah, I was almost embarrassed, but I was just too excited.

Like he looked a little bit pissed.

Like he looked angry.

I was like, no, good, all good.

Like in the shop, if you went back up there.

And then just from there, just I was out every weekend.

We're driving into the back of a house.

And there was the only thing I needed to fix on that.

If I could buy that back now, I would.

How long did you have it?

I had that like a good five years.

A good five years.

Then I bought a.

So from 78 sort of thing to like for five years.

Easy. Yeah.

Easy. Like I remember doing a dip on the way down to see my wife, well, not girlfriend

at the time, but she used to live in Coley.

We were like a distance for a while.

So he drove down there, did a dip on the way down and didn't even know at that time

that I should have just locked in my front diff and limped it up to her house.

But then you have to go up Rollins Hill, which probably did the right thing.

Spent a whole week's wages on the RAC tow truck to get it to her parents' house

and just set the driveway.

But no, it's good.

It's a good memory.

A big and you're a big family man, which which I love about you too.

And people on your channel will 100 percent appreciate.

And I've met your beautiful family.

They are lovely people.

They are just it's a bloody good family.

I'm telling you.

High school.

I heard about it.

They used to go every year.

you know, she's very reserved and stuff like that.

But she was such a such a character, man,

and just fell in love with Australia.

And that's not like bullshit.

That is legit.

I she's just like made for me.

Beautiful, beautiful woman.

It's awesome. Yeah.

I see I love it.

And I don't take her alive.

I've seen her go through some stuff as well, you know,

like that I've probably spoken to you about.

And it's just seeing someone go through that and then coming

out on top to be the woman they are.

The early days.

So pop, pop and pop and Dini or Pippa Dini.

Where else were you targeting early when you were young fellow?

Lancelin, Sandy, Kate.

That was basically it, man.

Yeah, we'll we'll because I had a quad bike as well at the time for a banshee.

Yeah, I think I'm paying for that now with my left knee.

I don't have the handlebars too much, you know, but.

No, just playing around there every weekend.

And that's that was my life.

Yeah, just up and down there all the time, because beautiful beach runs

down there at that time and multiple sandballs.

We just really and my cousins and stuff, they had a.

Oh, they did.

Had a a shack at Wedge for years and years.

And it was a beautiful shack.

I had a full generator set up there.

Yeah, you know, they my cousin, Jared, who's on the channel as well.

He lives for that stuff as well.

He's on his way around Australia now.

So that that was just every weekend, either there, you know,

on the pier with the boys, type of thing, and just up and down the beach

all weekend and just challenging each other on these massive dunes.

You know, you can't get up, but you're just flogging your car up there.

You know, but no, it was really good times.

And that's pretty much all all I was just either there or I was down south.

And that was this like your camping as well.

Just swaggering it.

Is this like your own stuff when you're young?

So in a crazy I'd one swag and it was a Oz Oz Oz.

Oz Trail Mitchell King.

Right. And I had that all the way from when I was like 1817

until the start of Wacka, like the start of W.

Felt like it to me anyway.

I've been driving the Bandera, but now I had that.

Like as far as power goes, like even you, Jaden, like with the with the 76 now, right?

Can I ask what you had before that?

Highlights, a high like Petro Hilux.

OK, obviously, there's a big difference between what you can do now with the V8.

Yeah, massively and the Hilux.

But would you have been happy with the power of the Hilux even at the time?

Yeah, I could not agree more, man.

I think a lot of the things these days is about,

you know, you need more power, need more this, you know, you need a showy car.

I don't. Man, I I I got up everything I'd get up in my cruiser now in the D 40.

Yeah, like an absolute animal of a thing, like just a four cylinder turbo.

People have shitty.

Shitty times with them, you know, shitty experiences.

But man, you get that with every car.

Yeah, just I love that thing.

But I think as a step backwards to go to the 76 technology wise.

That's my favorite thing about the technology in them.

So it was a day 40 into the cruiser.

How did you have the day 40 set up?

D 40.

No, it was pretty.

I maybe had like a not even a two inch lift, right?

But I had leaf springs in the back, but leaf helpers.

So I could put my quad in there.

Oh, yeah.

And then once I had the quad, it would sort of level out nicely.

Yeah, nothing.

Nothing hectic compared to what today's standards are.

But there was no aftermarket rhubar.

I think I might have had like a cheap ass light bar on there.

That was fine, though, man.

Yeah, I felt amazing.

It changed a lot, hasn't it?

It really has.

Everyone's got a massive draw set up or something in the back

that's just hectic.

Yeah, much more affordable.

So what you spot on?

I think this is probably naturally going to cars,

which I'm not planning where this is going to be,

So what year did you go to the cruiser?

So the cruise was the start of the day.

My two days after, but it was literally with a bit

to be on our honeymoon in Fiji.

But there was a coup in Fiji, so we didn't end up going.

And so I was like, oh, look, I was going to get the cruiser

when I came back, but I'm not getting it like within two days.

And then we hooked up at the time we had a quad bike trailer.

So you drive the quad, we had a farm quad at that time.

Put a Honda quad on there.

They're the best things ever, you know, for a toy at camp.

Yeah.

Best thing ever.

And then a rooftop tent on top is a especially made trailer

that I bought from a guy in Bunbury who built it for the think

to take it to the think.

So it's beautifully made.

So off topic, have you been to think before?

No, I haven't.

But after this year's footage, I need to get there.

My big trip on the M-I-Z.

You know, so very humble because it does do it does well.

You look at someone like Cam and it's wild.

The amount of very different content at the same time.

You know what I mean?

I think it's obviously in that that shit that everyone's going to watch.

Whereas I'm not for everyone.

I'm just filming what I'm doing.

Is the intent still the same from when you started YouTube channel to now?

The intent hasn't changed of why you're doing it.

Jordan, there was a time where I thought to myself like,

oh, man, I'm going to make something.

Yes, I'm going to go from going to do weekly videos,

but it was still just filming exactly what we'd been up to on a trip.

I've never I think I can hand on heart

say that I've never sort of actively made stuff just for subs.

Like you five of best things are this or just release content.

Yeah, 100%.

But it just didn't work, man.

Like a bricklaying and then, you know, there's only so much editing

you can do to try and do weekly videos.

And then you've got to be gone like once every fortnight and out there really,

really put in the time.

So you've really got to tip your hat to people who are doing this full time.

Yeah, really do.

But the relationship I have now with YouTube

because I reckon there was maybe one or two years where I did feel a bit of burnout.

Yeah, it's always been my choice.

Like, don't, you know, people get pissed off at like content creators.

And they're sort of like, oh, you know, it's pretty easy to go out and do that shit.

But then you also hear the other side where content creators

win about the views they're getting and stuff like that.

Don't forget, man, it's you can you can give it up.

Like it's optional.

So, man, if I get burnt out, just leave it.

Leave for a couple of months and then I'll just come back.

You know what I mean?

But now I'm releasing shit whenever I want to.

Yeah.

And it's the happiest I've ever been.

Like it's a lovely feeling.

It truly is, man.

And I like to think that it might come out in the content, you know, that it's like

shut up and out in a while and released anything.

This feels new again.

Yeah.

You know, whereas it can feel bloody, like repetitive, like you feel like you're

playing a character sometimes.

You truly do.

Yeah, when it gets like quite.

It does.

Yeah, when it gets full on 100 percent.

But when you almost have had a little break,

you've got so much to talk about so much on your brain.

Whereas sometimes it feels like you're sort of reaching for shit to talk about.

So yeah, that's where I can put that.

So I think probably a perfect time.

So for me, like, and I think I have spoken about this on here, probably in a bit

more depth, I won't go over it too much again.

Around that COVID time when we weren't able to get out as much and we were sort

of stuck at home and like, you know, everyone was off work, whatever it was.

The world was different for a little while.

We couldn't do it.

We love doing.

And that's when I dived in hard.

I was binging your stuff like I'd like you'd binged by the series of young

trunks.

I was in on it and it was and I think what you just spoke about there is the

fact that it wasn't nothing felt forced when you did it.

It was like when you when I watched one of your videos, it felt like I was just on

the trip with you.

Yeah.

And it was like, oh, good.

That's exactly.

Yeah.

And that's still the feeling that I get on these trips.

Yeah.

Imagine what it would be like to actually be on one of these.

Like I'm saying half an hour.

Horrible.

So.

Imagine.

Oh, that's so hard to do.

Have you ever been terrible?

Ask the guys.

That's why that's why you've got more and more counting every time.

That's what I felt like it was.

Yeah.

It was like, what's happening in between when the cameras go off?

Because like it's that fun when they're on.

Yeah.

I agree.

And you'd know as being a bloke like this sort of things you can put on your

trip.

So that is off to go.

Different.

Oh, why?

Yeah.

And that's what like it just gave me that sense of like, and I'm not to say

plenty of people struggled through COVID.

No doubt.

I was I was going.

I was fine.

It was yeah.

It was mentally you mean?

Yeah.

I was absolutely fine.

It was just that the world was a little bit locked down.

I couldn't there wasn't a lot to do.

Yeah.

I don't mind it.

I truly am.

And when I couldn't get out there, I was watching.

Like that's when I kind of started watching a bit more YouTube.

Like I hadn't really been diving into anyone's stuff.

I'd see it.

Yeah.

Now and then like a you know, Ronnie video would you would see.

Yeah.

And it was like, oh, Ronnie Dahl's out doing that.

And then when I found your channel, I hooked on it.

And I stayed on it and I watched everything that I hadn't seen yet.

And then I was waiting for when they would next come out.

So that's why I am excited to have you here and hear about this.

And I know I've heard a little bit about it before and we'll get on to some

of the other stuff that you've brought out as well.

But yeah, I think that's where I couldn't stress enough to people to go

and have a look because that exactly what you spoke about there is the perfect

summary of of what it feels like to experience or watch one of your videos.

Because I appreciate that.

I do.

And that's what I try and strive for anyway.

It comes across that way for sure.

And that's some and you do all the editing and everything yourself.

That's the other part.

That's because we have seen now through Ronnie.

We have seen how much Jane probably understands a little bit more working

in this space.

Oh, I couldn't believe how much effort goes into producing one video.

Absolutely.

And that would be another level like that's like five.

Whereas we're just running.

Yeah, cool, cool, cool, cool.

You know, however I've recorded it is how it happens.

You don't plan it.

You can see Ronnie's stuff is very planned, calculated, very different.

Yeah.

Times of constant hiring.

Yeah, this looks tiring to do.

But it comes out in the production.

It's a beautiful product.

Yeah.

But yeah, like I even say it with this, mate, we got two cameras set up, three microphones.

Yeah.

The effort that Jaden goes through to bring out of this.

Yeah, I didn't realize there was all that to it.

So I think people, you know, said, how content creating is your shit.

Like, what are you complaining about?

It's like, actually, it's like you say it's a choice.

Yes.

But it's hard work to get a video out.

Like, so that's what you do it yourself, mate.

And this is hard to edit.

I've found in videos because I know I know what I've filmed in the videos.

Whereas with a podcast, you have to watch it through again.

You have to like all the files have to go on.

Then you have to sync everything up.

And this is what this.

While we're on podcast, every man chats is, I suppose, an arm of your

Oh, man, I remember it was 33 or four years ago.

I was in the pool with my wife and I'd been listening to a heaper.

Joe Rogan just got inspired by Joe Rogan.

And I thought there's really not much in WA as far as I wouldn't say it's

full driving content, but even just like camping content.

And then like all around, I wanted to sort of it started off as I wanted

to talk about my experiences with YouTube.

I think I might have been going through a bit of a shit time.

Yeah. And and and still to this day, it's like a bit of a therapy.

I get to help.

It's a good excuse to almost force myself to chat to my mates,

like have a good laugh with them.

And and as I started off very like, yeah, welcome.

Try to keep it polished and that.

And then it's just gone.

No, it's just gone into, you know, this is that's who I am.

Yeah, this is who I am.

I swear like a sailor, you know what I mean?

And and that's just how it's just one of those things we just.

I wanted it to be monitored around a campfire.

But it's like about like your normal bloke has massive

stories as well, like massive experiences, not just your your stars.

was to do less trips, but each trip would be longer.

And then, yeah, we ended up, Cam ended up saying,

Like again, I don't place my content around if it's going

and kids so much by like day five, day six.

And I haven't felt down to go home in a while.

And I think I was saying to you before that, like having a shower,

that would be the terrain tamer tip for me like trying.

I was always always like a little bit of a

or three days, or man, I'll share in every second night minimum.

Like we're talking about and rooftop tent that has changed everything

for me as far as camping.

I really liked not being able to touch the phone or like have access to anything.

Because I find that sometimes I'll just open up the phone out of instinct

and just like have a look and like not being able to look at anything.

But it's a very interesting place when we went with Ronnie and Ronnie had

Starlink I was like, OK, this is actually this is handy.

I like being able to just throw out a text here or there.

I like we both had calls over that trip that needed to be made.

And if they were, like as in some Lauren was pregnant at the time

when we went away and she was kind of around that 30 week mark.

And and I get a text message saying I'm on my way to hospital.

And I'm like, oh, like this is day one.

Lauren didn't. Yeah, not one.

And Lauren didn't exaggerate it.

Like she was like, don't stress.

Yeah. I'm everything is all fine.

I've just got to duck.

Like I'm on my way to hospital just to get a few things checked out.
