LIVE
Um, Dave, Ian, Apex, Jason, welcome everybody, um, we just finished Halloween.
Yes, sounds like Christmas is coming early this year.
Well,
everybody, we're getting a new car.
We are, apparently, this is news to me that we're getting a new car.
We, yes, we, I am, let's, let's put a qualifier on it.
I am trying to get a new car.
And I'm hearing is I will be doing new burnouts in our new car in days time.
That is incredibly optimistic, and I'm not going to diminish your enthusiasm
because I absolutely don't want to, which makes me glad that I brought you
in early on this process.
As we discussed last week, Papi Shopping for a replacement for the LS460
was previously confined to LS460s from 2013 to 2017.
Ian, you want to catch the folks up with the text message I sent you yesterday,
Dave, before?
Well, and anyone who didn't listen to the show last week,
I brought my trademark sober decision making skills to this discussion
and recommended a whole bunch of stuff that was not an LS460
and was nowhere near as reliable as an LS460.
What was the first car you pitched, Ian?
Was it a Maserati Quattroporte or a Fetan?
I like that you don't even remember the bad decisions that you've told me to get.
No, because I have so many days.
You're overflowing.
I have an endless fount of bad decisions.
Yes, I love that.
And I love that about you.
The first thing you recommended was was a Bentley.
Something. No, it's not a great choice.
This is a car that I do want to drive my wife around in, Ian.
Yeah, and I would like my wife to drive as well.
Because then that's that's one more person to help push.
The only way that I would get that is if you were permanently affixed in the trunk,
just injecting steroids into your eyeballs 24 sevens
so that you could just Hulk smash me to the nearest
like independent British mechanic whenever.
Right. Yeah.
And also you were somehow mining Bitcoin with just your your sweat
that you'd be your body heat from the trunk.
Yeah. Yeah.
OK. So yeah.
So that was so that's where we left it was you realize it was a mistake
bringing this up with me immediately. Not true.
We kind of left it there.
Not true.
And then over the weekend developments.
Right. I sent you a you and Peter a text
because I talked to Peter on the phone as well.
Halloween night. Yeah.
Do you want to show the people the car that you sent us?
Let me. Yeah.
Let me let me pull up the text. OK.
So I said I said this to you and Peter and I said so.
I've changed my mind and I'm seriously considering this.
So let me copy the URL here.
OK. Camera browser is all happening.
OK. Here we go.
I'm seriously considering this.
Yes. And it is a 2016 Lexus GSF with 60,000 miles on it.
I'm going to be honest.
I did not even click the link before I respond.
You just saw the URL or the title.
Yeah. I saw the summary, the URL summary, and that it was a GSF.
And I just said, do it.
Yep. So it is.
It is a black on black Lexus GSF that's on CarMax right now.
It is currently reserved and I can catch you up on everything.
But but Peter was absolutely in favor of this as well.
And then you said in the text thread.
Let's see here, guys, we're going to do so many burnouts with our new car.
That's that's when it was converted from my new car to your new car
or to our new car.
Yep. Mm hmm. Yeah.
And I stand by that.
And it's our new car because I want to do burnouts in it.
And you don't do burnouts in someone else's car.
That's just bad manners.
But if it's our car now, that's a different story.
OK. All right.
I don't know why when we were working on the lemon's car
a while ago and you took my Lexus to go somewhere,
why you just didn't rip a burnout in front of me.
That was your chance.
Yeah, I guess I guess it was.
I can't believe you missed that.
I'm mad at you legitimately for missing that now.
No, just to be clear, it's our car, but your tire budget.
Just so it's clear about that.
Nope, nope.
In for a penny, in for a pound, son.
So tell tell folks the last experience we have
with the Lexus GSF and why I might gravitate towards this.
I mean, it would have been in, what, 2017?
It was many years ago at this point.
We went to a press event and we got to drive the GSF.
We've talked about it a ton of times on the show since
because we had a blast in that car.
Mm hmm. I will say we didn't do much
testing of the like the everyday living stuff.
So I don't know.
I don't I have no memory of the electronics in it whatsoever.
Other than I knew, figured out how to turn off traction control
and we did epic burnouts in that thing.
Oh, they were so much fun.
And that car, it delivers power in such an like intoxicating way.
Right. That it really stuck with us.
Yes. Like a long time.
Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, the fact that we're talking about a 2016 or 2017 Lexus
10 years later, you know, nine, 10 years later.
Yeah. Right. It really did stick with us.
And I so my wife and I were digging through
kind of like listings for LS460s.
And we I was telling her about the LS460L
with like that cool executive seating package and stuff like that.
Be like, that'd be really cool if I could find one with that.
That would be hilarious to like drive you and Peter to concerts
and you guys are in the backseat like that.
You know, just like just because it'd be neat to have, right?
Right. And I saw this GSF on on CarMax.
And I can't remember if I saw it when you and I were talking before.
But I told her about how you and I like really
how that car was so sticky with us.
This was, I think, the first car that mutually between you and I,
this is what made us like just define within our canon
like a car being sticky with us. Right.
Yeah. And because I think it had happened for both of us independently.
Yeah. This is like the Top Gear people were
you know, the the the trio where they were like
the only car that we agree on is like the Subaru legacy or something like that.
Yeah. If you have Panda or something, right? Yeah.
Yeah. Uh huh.
It's not I don't think either of us would it's not our absolute
favorite car for either of us, I would say, but like
um, for us being on the same page
and it's staying with us like this is it.
Yeah. Right. There's there's just very few cars that kind of do that
that also tick like just kind of some takeaway boxes that I have
about like reliability and stuff like that, right?
That can do those kinds of things like, no, it's not all wheel drive.
Right. Then I'll get snow tires again for the Fiat 500 to Barth. Right.
Um, but let me catch you up to date.
Let me catch you up with like everything that's happened since we talked.
So the weird that you haven't been keeping me abreast
on the developments on our car, but that's because stuff has been happening.
But everything is still in limbo now.
So spoiler alert. OK.
So I have only sold a car to CarMax.
I have my old man sedan when I basically pushed it in with
stop leak in the radiator, right?
Because it sprung a leak on the way to get dropped off at CarMax.
As much as I love that car, it was starting to kill me at the end.
Now, I will say that to interrupt you just for a second,
I have also only sold a car. OK.
To CarMax and I sold it in a fairly similar condition.
OK. I think that's the only way that people sell CarMax cars,
which kind of gives me pause about the idea of buying a car for CarMax.
But true, true, but yes.
So I so it was coming soon on their website all weekend.
Both my wife and I clicked the notify me on the website
that I think you can see here from when it becomes available.
We got notification that it was available this morning.
It's already reserved for somebody to look at.
In Texas, they're coming the car, I should say,
is in Texas right now, Arlington, Texas, at a CarMax there.
So when a car is coming soon on CarMax's website,
you can't reserve it, you can't test drive it, you can't do anything like that.
And their notify me email is first
first come, first served.
So and it emails out in the order that people registered on their website.
OK, so this morning when it wasn't available,
I was actually on the phone with my bank,
like sorting out the pre-approval for the loan for it, you know, for this.
And I am pre-approved now.
But while I was on the phone, like sorting it out,
because there was like a problem with their website and like
I happen to have like a pin on the credit,
the thing that they use, you know, all right.
So I had to like lift the freeze and blah, blah, blah.
So while I was sorting all that out, my wife texted me and was like,
it I just got an email that it's available.
And I think she clicked it and it said
that it was reserved.
I clicked it same thing.
And she thought she got a call from the dealer
at the same time, but it turned out to be like
somebody actually reaching out about an LS460 in California.
Oh, well, OK.
And so I wrapped up my phone call with the credit union who were fantastic.
And I called CarMax.
I Googled the number for the one in Arlington, Texas.
But you know, these big court, you know, national chains,
you get routed to like a centralized phone bank and an online salesperson.
So I talked to a really nice guy named Miguel,
who helped me kind of like understand the full process, right?
So that's how I know that it is it notifies folks in the order
in which they signed up for the notify me.
He told me that there's nothing that we can do as far as like
putting me second in line, like reserving it
or pre-reserving it if this person that's coming to test drive it.
I now know is tomorrow at 4 30 p.m.
Pardon me, central time.
So if they don't want it, then it just goes straight back on the website.
It doesn't go to like a triage or anything, right?
So it go back on the website and I just have to keep
refreshing to park it for myself.
Wow. And so you, me, my wife, anybody else listening
needs to just needs to at, you know, yeah.
I mean, just you, me and my wife, right?
Because it's going to come out afterwards.
Just needs to keep refreshing on the website at like, you know,
starting at like 3 p.m.
Our time, I'm going to see if I can write a script
that will alert me as soon as it gets cut over.
Assuming that this person that's coming to drive it does not want it.
Right. This is actually the I think Miguel told me this.
So I don't know how true it is.
But I think that he said this is the first G.S.F.
that has ever hit CarMax. Oh, interesting. Right.
And he didn't know what it was.
And, you know, he's like, I know cars.
He's like, what is this?
And I was like, well, I want this one, you know, because they always
that this it's the sales thing of like, why do you want this car?
Because if that doesn't pan out, they want to know what else
they have an opportunity to sell you. Oh, we don't have that.
But we have this, you know, and that kind of stuff, right?
Right. It's like, well, I know exactly what I want.
I'm not going to try to get anything else.
They don't need to know about me looking for an LS460, all that stuff.
Right. Right. So it's a waiting game right now.
So I'm pre-approved credit wise.
What you have to do is as soon as it's available, you hit,
let's see here, we can go to like just any other car on the site
and we'll see it like what you would need to do here.
Like here's a Volvo XC90. Let's say we want this.
You hit this, get started. Right.
And then you just you pay to have it transferred to your CarMax.
And as soon as you do that, it's reserved for you if you're out of state.
Otherwise, you could say like, yeah, free reservation like you see on this one here.
So I'm going to see if I can write a text parsing or like a URL parsing script
that that will look for this get started link versus the one on the GSF,
which says notify me, or if you've already signed up,
it has different language or two. Hmm. So yeah.
I'm looking, I'm looking to see on Auto Tempest
if there are other GSFs available.
Have you done this already? Oh, Ian, I have a whole,
I know everything about the GSFs and I know everything about all the GSFs
on the market right now. OK.
So you're going to see this one does seem quite a bit cheaper.
It does. And it has no accidents.
And so I feel like this one is a unicorn
because they're still regularly 50 or 55, sometimes $70,000.
Yeah. So the Lexus GSF was only made from 2016 to 2020.
Only 2400 in change were sold in the US.
It's that rare. It is that rare.
Remind me, which engine is it the same engine that's in the 460?
It is close. This is the five liter V8. Oh, so this.
Right. So it. So around this time,
Lexus was still doing the 4.6 in the LS460.
Right. The special versions of the V8
they were doing were the five liter.
I don't know exactly what the change is.
I would just assume maybe it's a difference.
Maybe it's just a different
crankshaft, so potentially different stroke
to get that extra displacement.
I doubt it's a whole different block, right?
Like, so I don't think it's bore.
I think it would be, yeah.
And Ian's Ian, now that I've said that to Ian,
he's just in no, no, no, no, I'm not going to Google.
OK, I'm not going to Google. OK, all right.
But yeah, so it is the five liter 400 and what is it?
Four hundred and sixty nine horsepower, something like that.
It's a lot, whatever it is. Yeah, it is.
And it is zero to sixty and four and a half seconds.
Yeah, four hundred and sixty seven horsepower at seventy one hundred RPM.
It has the torque vectoring rear differential.
Yeah, all of it. It's so good.
It is. It has from the factory.
It has a staggered tire set up.
So your tire budget will go fast
because you cannot rotate your tires. Yeah.
Yeah, so I don't know why this one is cheaper.
It has a good. It truly has a good history.
But I do want to show you another one
that I found online because there is.
This is the one I think you or your father would buy.
If we go to eBay and we look for Lexus.
For what reason does it have a salvage channel?
Front end damage. There it is. OK.
But I want you to look at this.
OK, so this is in this is in Florida. OK.
OK, it is listed for forty eight fifty or forty eight five.
It looks great.
Look at this paint. Wow. OK.
So let's see if we can just can we pop.
So it was in a wreck previously.
It was a nonstructural front end
and I think it has a rebuilt title.
So is that kind of like more Matt Gray metallic?
This is a fiftieth anniversary edition.
GSF, which they only made one one hundred of. Wow. OK.
Now, I want you to see if you can figure out why what's going on.
I'm not going to buy this car. OK. OK.
So here's we're just going through pictures.
There's the front. There's the intake, the engine bay.
I love that blue. That's really cool for the intake stack. OK.
Uh huh. All right.
Is it that carbon fiber lip? Nope. No.
OK, I think you'll know it when you see it.
So we're just going through pictures of the exterior now.
Uh huh. OK. Here is it. OK.
Cool blue brake calipers. Uh huh.
OK, there's the door card. Uh huh.
There's the interior. I don't like the blue interior.
And a blue steering wheel. Oh.
Isn't that horrible? But I mean, for.
You know, this is like a 12 grand savings over the other ones that are available.
You can swap the steering wheel for less than that.
I could swap the steering wheel, but Ian.
We're just going to rewrap Ian.
This is this is one that is almost as much as the others
that has an accident history and a title. Right. Right.
Right. But isn't that blue interior insane?
I don't I don't care for that. That's not right. Yeah.
Like it would be one thing if the wheel was still black.
But the right and the center like with where the airbag is being blue.
Like they really messed up this car like straight from the factory.
This is not something someone has done. This is how Lexus.
Like is it someone option this or yeah.
No, you cannot make this like this is how it came from Lexus.
I mean, someone terrible.
I know. Right.
Like some pet boy shit is what that looks like. It does.
It does. Right. Isn't that crazy?
Yeah, that's really unfortunate. It is.
I have never seen a car interior that has repulsed me so much.
And it's like it's not even like puke orange or like some crazy color.
It's just not a good color on an amazing car. It's like what?
Yeah, but it's also it also is a little fitting for this car
because this car is a little bit Lexus
forgetting who their customer base is or like trying to
trying to change who their customer base is.
Yes. Remember, because there was that brief moment where Lexus was like,
we're going to be sporty now.
And it's like your own your customers do not want you to be sporty.
They are not sporty. Right. Right. Yeah.
Yeah. Look at the RCF LCF sales.
Look at all these sales figures and tell me if this is what your customers want.
Look, I'm glad they went there.
I'm really glad they made the LFA because that is my ultimate bucket list car.
Totally. You know.
Yeah. I mean, it was a ruinous financial decision. Right.
But like most ruinous financial decisions, real fun.
Exactly. Exactly.
You can't say that like losing your life to cocaine.
You didn't feel good at some point on the way down.
Oh, yeah. You're having a lot of fun, but it's not a good idea.
You know, yeah.
So, you know, so yeah.
So I've been looking at other LS or GSFs.
And, you know, I'm going, I promise you this, Ian,
I'm going to try as hard as I can within a reasonable time frame
to get a GSF for a reasonable price.
Oh, man, that's a great idea.
Like I didn't even think about it because I just don't see them anymore.
Right. Right. You don't.
Did I told you that there was a guy that brought one
to the Porsche Club autocross last year? Right.
Oh, yeah, you did.
Yeah. And I just like, I like, you know, robot eyes,
like RoboCop walked over to him and I was like, I know what you have.
And it's amazing.
And it should be fun.
Yeah. Yeah. It shouldn't be here, but it's a blast.
Right. And he was like, oh, yeah.
Like it's it's so out of its element here, but it's hilarious.
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
I was like, my buddy and I drove one of these like forever ago
and we cannot stop thinking about it.
Oh, man.
I am very excited about the idea of you getting one of these things
because that is really cool. Right.
Really cool.
Yeah. I'm going to try as hard as I can in to get our new car.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
So. Yeah.
I think what's going to happen is that guy's not going to buy it
and they're going to put it back up on the website for more money
than is currently listed for.
That is very possible.
That is completely with him bounds
because I think when Miguel was looking at it online, he was like
I think he was looking at other GSFs out there.
So you ruined it for everybody.
You basically told the teacher that they forgot to assign homework.
No, remember the unicorn that Pita got for his Audi S4?
Right. Like just because like the dealer
maybe didn't quite understand when they brought it in.
This is what you get, right?
And so not only could I have a Lexus GSF
if this all works out, right?
I'm not getting my hopes up,
but I will tell you that I am going to try as hard as I can.
Um, that it would have that I could get a CarMax warranty
on a Lexus V8 with less than 70,000 miles on it.
Right. I mean, that's kind of a reliability dream, right?
That's so great. Yeah.
So, you know.
Yeah. Um, yeah.
I mean, so let's refresh the page now.
Let's just let's just do that for the rest of the show.
Let's just that's all the show is now.
It's just going to be 48 hours of us refreshing a website, right?
Yeah. Yeah.
So that's that's everything, you know, yeah.
So still keeping my eye on other GSFs out there.
There's a guy in Florida that's selling one outside of my price range.
It only has 31,000 miles on it.
It's that very, very appropriate Lexus Red
because Lexus has historically not done a very good red,
but for a few years in the late 2010s, they did.
And this is one of them. Yeah.
So, you know, yeah.
The one we drove was it like I think it was kind of that grayish.
Yeah, it was.
And I can't remember if it had the red interior or the black interior.
I think it was black, but I don't know.
I couldn't be wrong about that.
Yeah, we know it wasn't blue.
Yeah, because we would have remembered that. That's awful.
Yeah. So I'm refreshing the page again.
Yeah. So there you go.
So that's what our new car is hopefully going to look like, Ian.
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
So, man, I'm so excited.
And I hope I hope that works out.
I really do, too, man.
This is more than I was looking to spend.
But when I was talking to my wife about it, she was like,
she's like, you know, if this is a car
that you've been thinking about for so long, yeah.
Life is short. Let's make it happen.
Right. And we watched Doug DeMiro's video about it
because Doug, you know, famously said like, this is a horrible new car.
But potentially a fantastic used car.
Right. Because at the time, it was crazy expensive, right?
Yeah. The one we drove was like $92,000.
And you could get like an M5 for cheaper than that at the time.
Right. Right.
And that's the whole thing, like how many M5s have,
you know, mileage, like 9, 10, 15,000 miles a year on them
that don't have issues. Right.
Right. Versus how many GSFs have similar mileage
that don't have issues. Right. Yeah.
I will tell you, there are a lot of them out there with accident histories.
And so I have a feeling like a few of these kind of went to
like exotic car rental fleets or like higher end rental fleets
because it just seems like there's a disproportionate amount of fleet use
marked on these like this one here, it says fleet, prior use fleet.
Right. And so I don't I don't know why.
Yeah, I wonder. Yeah.
I wonder who was getting these.
It could have been a lease, maybe.
I don't know if a lease under like Lexus directly would be marked a fleet.
Oh, yeah, maybe. Yeah.
But or they could have been loaners, like for people,
like if they weren't selling, they could have been like dealer loaners.
You know what? That's a very good point.
They were sitting on the dealer lot, right?
And of course, they're going to get accidents being bumped around dealer lots.
The dealers are going to claim any accident stuff on the dealer's insurance.
Right. Right. All that stuff.
So that's a good point.
You know, I'm going to keep that in mind when I keep looking for these
just in case this one doesn't pan out. Yeah.
Yeah. We could also look up to see if any rental car companies did have them as
as as like upgrades. Sure.
Yeah, that would be wild rental.
Yeah, it would be. Yeah, it would be.
I'd be excited about that. Yeah.
I bet I think that some of them fell the same fate as like the Viggen and
and like, what was I thinking of just now?
The Viggen and oh, the Lexus ISF where
they wouldn't know about them.
Right. They didn't know about them.
They were way more tail happy than people realized.
Right. Yeah. Yeah.
So. Oh, man, I am excited about that.
Yeah, we'll see what we can do, buddy.
I would love for our to have new car.
Yeah. OK.
Would you like me to deliver you a license plate game?
Dude, I would love that. I would love that.
OK, let me just refresh this page real quick.
Yeah. OK.
All right. OK.
This one is called in the news.
Mm hmm.
OK.
In the news. All right.
OK. Anything else I need to know before I go in?
No. OK. I think that's it.
All right. Here we go, buddy.
In the news. All right.
OK, now I will say so one item is like real news
and the other ones are like from the National Enquirer News.
Oh, OK. OK.
Gotcha. OK.
So up top we have a silver four door Honda Accord
like twenty twelveish era.
Yeah. Right. Yeah.
Then we have a Hyundai.
Is that a Kona?
I believe so. Yes. OK.
In that cool Hyundai blue.
Hyundai does a good blue that's kind of close to my mountain bike.
Surly Safety Scissors Blue.
I think Surly's color is a touch lighter,
but that Hyundai blue looks pretty cool.
Yeah. And then last we lastly,
we have a Mini Cooper S down at the bottom.
Yeah. And I think that is this a four door mini or just a straight mini?
That's just a straight up mini.
Yeah. OK.
All right. And it's not the mini E or anything.
Yeah. This is this is the mini mini.
OK. Cool.
And then the license plates for horsemen for H.O.R.S.M.N.
Dodgers fan.
I assume the Dodgers are doing very well in in baseball day one.
They won the World Series. Oh, cool. OK.
Gotcha. OK.
I knew that they were in the in a later phase of the
like playoff serve World Series or whatever.
I didn't know. Yeah.
And then Elvis lives.
E L V S L V S Elvis loves Elvis lives.
Elvis lives. I'm pretty sure.
Yeah. Yeah. Me too. Right.
OK. Well, we need to do zoomies and enhance these.
I think so. OK.
Silver, gray,
Honda Accord, Colorado plate, blue plate,
no frame, raw dog in that mammary jammer.
And this is the conundrum with these kinds of cars.
When you have this color car with chrome accents, what do you do for a wheel?
Right. Right.
And they just have the kind of like the Honda Alloys,
which I think on a black car look great.
I think with you right with the chrome up against the chrome, that looks terrible.
Right. Yeah.
This is like wearing three different shades of red.
You know, this is like right because it's like a gray car,
a gray wheel and gray accents.
And like none of them are the same. Right.
But obviously they don't have a problem with it.
Because then they can drive because they drive an accord.
True. OK. All right.
Then we have the Kona with a is that a Washington state sticker
that is Oregon, I believe.
No, no, you're right.
No. Oh, God, no, I'm second guessing myself.
I thought that was Oregon, but then you said Washington.
And now I'm not so sure.
Oregon, it is Oregon. Yes. OK.
We're bad at geometry.
That's geography. I know I said that on purpose.
Yeah, that's Oregon. OK.
Yeah. OK. Oregon. Yes.
OK. It has an Oregon heart sticker.
So they're like that's their home homeland, if you will.
Also no license plate frame. No plate frame.
You people, come on, man.
OK.
There's not a lot to go off of on these zoomies and panties.
No, yeah, some mild tint, just kind of like the
like general stuff that you would get.
And then lastly, the mini, it's got.
Oh, it's got those cool four
Spokish wheels that I don't know.
Kind of I kind of dig kind of don't they're different.
Mm hmm.
It has the mirrors folded up.
So they they like having it parked and locked.
Yeah. Yeah.
It's blacked out, like the badges are blacked out and stuff.
Yeah. Yeah.
And there's this badge on the hood.
I don't it almost looks like an Intel inside sticker.
It does look weird.
I don't know what's going on there.
I don't know if that's just a quirk of the photo or what.
But I think that's just the mini badge placement normally.
Oh, I don't think so.
I think it might be a street lamp reflection
that's like turned out.
That does kind of like look like a street lamp head
or something like that, right?
Not sure. This is a lot.
So I'm not I don't know.
Yeah, it's weird.
Anyway, it's got a black plate, too.
So and again, no plate frame and three out of three of these plates.
Well, two out of the three of these plates are mounted crooked,
like on the on the little bit.
Yeah. Yeah.
You can see the plastic bushing on the mini.
It's crooked as well.
It's very crooked. Yeah.
That's funny. OK.
All right. So we got four horsemen, Dodger's fan and Elvis lives.
I want to put Dodger's fan on the Kona just because it's blue.
OK. But I don't know.
If I had to go for horsemen or Elvis lives,
what car really speaks to that for horsemen?
Hmm. For horsemen.
Who's who's talking about revelations in their cars?
Yeah, who's an apocalypse enthusiast?
Right. Yeah.
OK, I'm going to go for horsemen on the mini
because I think that this could potentially be like a nihilistic goth.
Oh, OK.
For nihilists. Yeah.
Like I'm picturing
Gilfoyle in Silicon Valley.
OK. Right. OK. All right.
Um.
And nihilists have refracts on their cars.
I think so. I think so.
And they don't use it.
They're too. They're they're not bothered to take it off.
Right. Right.
Because I don't think there's no trays or anything on it.
Is there? Oh, yeah.
I guess there is like a ski tray or whatever it is.
OK. OK.
I want to go Dodger's fan on the Accord.
It just seems like OK, like Dodger's fan, like really just
like, yes, I like baseball and I drive a Honda Accord, right?
Like. OK.
And then I think the Dodgers are sort of the Accord option of baseball fandom.
I think so, right? Yeah.
And then I I'll go Elvis lives on the Hyundai just because I think it's
like quirky and weird in Oregon and Portland and.
OK. Yeah. All right.
That seems right to me.
That sounds like solid reasoning.
Thank you.
Do you have bad news for me?
I actually have amazing news for you.
Really? OK.
You got all three of them correct.
Oh, snap. OK. Yeah. OK.
Yeah. I got Elvis lives the other day and I was like, oh, man, I need this.
Uh-huh. And I've had the other two.
I've been sitting on the other two forever.
I like that. I like that.
Yeah. And Peter sent you Dodger's fan.
Yes, he did. Thank you, Peter.
Yeah. And they do have a blue plate.
So maybe that's their. I think so.
Yeah. OK.
Hmm. All right.
Well, dude, it's done. Thank you, man.
Yeah, I don't know.
Like the I could just see a goth gilfoil
doom and gloom person in the Mini Cooper, like a blacked out.
Yeah. Heavily tinted Mini Cooper.
Yeah. Uh-huh. And it's a four cylinder engine.
You know, oh, yeah, there you go. Right.
But then all of these could be.
But still. Yeah. Yeah. OK.
OK, dude. Nice.
Thank you. Yeah. Yeah.
Right on. What do we think?
Should we get an album of the week in so that way you can get back to refreshing
that page? Hang on. Let's just go ahead and do it.
Wouldn't that be amazing if it just became available right now?
Yeah. It would be pretty great.
Right. You could watch me put in my credit card number on the show
to pay for the transport.
Yeah. It is still is still not available.
OK. Yeah. Yeah.
Let's definitely do an album, buddy.
I would love to hear an album.
And fortunately, I haven't had time to listen to the last two,
but I'm going to make a point.
I'm going to crank out some Ian albums
because I do want to listen to that Taiman Pala album.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I'm still have two minds about it. OK. OK. Yeah.
OK. This is I'm going to do something unusual now.
We're going to do a live album.
We haven't done a lot of live. Oh, yeah. OK.
But you've been recommending a lot of live music to me lately.
And one of my favorite bands who I am never going to get to see
my favorite lineup of is that they've already
they've gone their separate ways as the lineup that I love.
Release the live record. OK. This week.
And it is beak live at Zebulon.
And I'm really bummed that I never got to see them live.
Yeah. Definitely seems like something I would really like. OK.
And I listened to a little bit of this record already
and it's pretty fantastic. Oh, OK.
So and this is again, one of my favorite.
Yeah, newer bands.
Yeah, Porta said spin off. Right.
Yeah, Jeff Barrow from who's the kind of the main guy in Porta set.
Is he's the drummer and the vocalist or one of the vocalists.
So good. Crop Rocky.
Very vibey sort of sort of music.
But yeah, this is their live record. Nice.
Like it's so it's serendipitous when like, yes, OK,
I realize like this band is broken up, maybe at some or like change lineups.
Maybe at some point down the road,
they'll kind of reunite with the original lineup and tour or something like that.
But when there is a really high quality recording,
yeah, of that version of the band that you want to see,
like official, you know, like absolute soundboard,
like the right amount of crowd noise mixed in makes it for me on a live recording.
Yeah, you know, yeah.
And it's a real bummer, too, because like I they only played like three shows
or something like that in the US. OK, this year.
And so if I had known that they were going to break up,
I might have traveled.
Yes, you know, I know you would have.
Yeah, you would have.
You would have worked that into something.
Something. Yeah. Yeah, right.
But yeah, it didn't happen.
And but I'm so very glad that they released this.
Yeah. So so what's the lineup nowadays?
Is Jeff Barrow not part of the.
Yeah, he just left.
So I don't know what the plan is, because it just has.
They just announced that this summer. OK.
So I'm not sure what the plan is.
OK, gotcha. Yeah.
Yeah, no, I was very thankful to be able to see battles with the three members.
I don't know if they're still doing anything now, but I know that.
One of them left before their last album dropped.
So if you have a chance, like to see the band you want to see with the lineup,
make it happen, man, make it happen, you know.
Yeah, I think that you and I both have a list of regrets as far as like concerts
that we didn't go to, like, yeah, right.
I never saw Prince and I had the chance to like once or twice.
I know, right?
Yeah, when I was in Kansas City, I could have seen Prince.
Yeah, no, I've got a long list of people that I regret that I could have seen
and I didn't wasn't able to make it happen.
Yeah. Yeah. Give me give me a couple of those.
I mean, Bowie's right at the top, but I blamed
my parents who did not let me go see him with Trent
Reznor in the mid 90s. Absolutely. Yeah.
Yeah, that I'm mad at your parents for that, too.
Yeah. And then Porta said, I never got, I never was
around when they were touring the U.S.
or aware that they were touring the U.S.
Sure. Thankfully, I did get to see them. Yeah.
Yeah, I'm jealous of that.
And I can tell you that it is exactly what you would have wanted
out of a Porta said live show. Yeah, it was great.
Yeah. Yeah. But yeah.
Yeah, those are the two big ones, I think.
OK. OK. Cool.
Yeah, because you've seen Massive Attack.
That's I know that was a huge bucket list for you.
Yeah, that show remains just one of the nice amazing things
we've ever seen. Yeah. It's just so good. Yeah.
Right. So good.
Yeah. When you meet, when you like
when you have something on a pedestal like that and you see it, right?
And it lives up or exceeds the hype.
Yeah. Like it was built up in your head. Yeah.
I was so excited about it.
And then it was something totally different than I was anticipating,
but also great. So like nice.
That was a really great experience for me,
because I didn't read anything about the shows before I went.
And like I'm like on purpose and didn't look at set list or anything.
And and then for it to be as amazing as it was.
Yeah. So great.
So yeah, that's awesome.
If you get a chance to see Massive Attack, take it.
Because even if you're not into their music, it was just an amazing show.
That's really cool.
I will if I have the chance to see them.
I will definitely see them. Yeah.
Nice, man. OK. Well, cool.
Yeah. Live at Zebulon, Los Angeles.
Yeah. April 2nd, 2025 from this year.
Yeah. Beak live recording.
Dave, before we proclaim that we did a car show, Control-F.
Oh, yeah. Here we go. OK.
Control-F5.
Oh, should I do a shift to make to see if to make sure it clears out the cash shift?
Oh, good idea. Command R for refresh.
OK. Yeah.
We're going to open a browser in private mode.
Try from there.
Yeah. Connect to my VPN. Yeah. Right. OK.
All right. Well, yeah, I appreciate it, man.
I appreciate your endorsement for our new car.
Absolutely. Like I said, I wanted to take a different approach
and bring you and everyone else in on the ground floor for something like this.
I love it. Yeah.
And I remember I want you to know that I recognize this.
When we first drove the GSF, you were like, this car is for you.
Yeah. You said that to me.
I did. Yeah.
And I don't think I was as open to it then because it was like,
well, first of all, the price tag is insane. Right.
But you were right in like comparing it to my Infiniti M45.
You know, that kind of stuff.
This like kind of in between or like it's not a five series.
It's not a seven series.
I feel like the GSF and the M45 were the only two cars
that really fit into that in between five and seven series category.
Right. Yeah.
Now, I still think I mean, this is the ideal car for you.
And so the fact that they're starting to get into your price range now
is pretty exciting. Yeah.
Yeah. Well, so part of the credit union stuff is that they have a free
auto broker that they send that they give my info to.
So I'm going to talk to the auto broker later today to tell them, you know,
like you can find me a GSF that you think is OK for X price.
Just, yeah, just assume I'm going to buy it.
Nice. Yeah. As long as it doesn't have that horrendous blue interior.
Oh, there is. Oh, there is one other color here.
Let's go to Edmunds real quick, unless you need to get going soon.
But I'm here for this. OK.
All right. Let's look at.
So do you remember the Lexus orange that they did?
No. OK.
So it was a color that came down from the LFA.
OK. Lexus.
K model. G.S.F.
G.S.F. Here we go.
OK, that's not my zip code, but that's OK.
We got to open it up nationwide.
And let's do the search.
What do we wait? Oh, go. OK.
Here we go. Go. OK.
So Ian. Mm hmm.
Oh, it's not on here.
Orange G.S.F.
Oh, I was. Oh, wow.
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.
Right. Yeah.
That Lexus like dipped into this orange color for a bit.
Yeah. You know, honestly, I don't hate it.
I think as long as the interior is black.
Yes. I think that is OK.
Uh-huh. You don't like it, though.
I don't. With your skin tone.
Yeah. Oh, yeah, definitely. Right.
Yeah, I don't know if they did.
Yeah, they did do orange accents on some of the interior,
but they didn't do an orange wheel.
That's good, at least. Right.
Like just the bottom of the wheel.
Yeah. Like, yeah.
Yeah. So I know, right?
Yeah. I don't know.
Like there's some weird colors that I think are cool.
Like you and I both love that like muted yellow
that Volvo did for a while back in the eight fifty days.
Right. You know, stuff like that.
But man, like I would have a real hard time
like swallowing a pill with an orange or like blue.
Excitement builds as the hosts discuss the potential purchase of a 2016 Lexus GSF, a car that has left a lasting impression on them since their first drive years ago. The conversation dives into the challenges of securing the car, including competition from other buyers and the nuances of the used car market. They share humorous anecdotes about previous car recommendations and the unique features of the GSF, all while contemplating the joy of future burnouts. The episode blends automotive passion with light-hearted banter and practical advice on navigating car purchases.
This week Dave discovers he won't be the only one owning his next car, and we're not talking about the bank. Think more hairy, more sassy, and with a big burnout predilection. Woah boy. We love you more than Ian loves doing donuts in rental cars (allegedly)!
