A deep dive into Europe's automotive tensions over the 2035 internal combustion engine ban, featuring contrasting views from BMW and Stellantis CEOs on emissions, tariffs, and industry survival. The episode highlights Chinese automaker Leap Motor's European expansion with Stellantis support, Ford's new electric van and special Bronco edition, and US efforts to boost chip manufacturing with Wolf Speed. Hydrogen fuel cell progress and Daimler's partnership with H2 Mobility are covered, alongside DHL's positive Tesla Semi trial and GM's military tactical vehicle prototype hinting at a return to extended-range electrics.

Speaker 1: This is Autoline Daily, the show dedicated to enthusiasts of the global automotive industry. There's something of a tug of
war going on between Europe's automakers, and it's all about those Chinese tariffs and the twenty thirty five ban on internal combustion engines. Oliver Zipza BMW CEO says that banning
IC engines will lead to a massive shrinking of the European auto industry and it will force it to depend on China for batteries. Instead, he wants e fuels and
hydrogen to be considered for reducing CO two and piston engines. Meanwhile,
Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stalantis says no, he doesn't want the IC ban going away. He wants regulatory stability and
says Stilantis will comply with the ban. In fact, he
says Stilantis will not even buy emission credits from other automakers to satisfy current emission standards, which could turn into a huge political issue. As eu CO two emission standards
get tighter next year, automakers.
Speaker 2: Could face up to sixteen billion dollars in fines. Tavarus
is also against the EU terrace on Chinese evs. He
says the tariffs will force Chinese companies to build more assembly plants in Europe, which will lead to more overcapacity, which will force existing European assembly plants to close. The
EU and China are negotiating to avoid the tariffs, but so far they've come up empty, and European negotiators say that it's highly unlikely they'll reach a deal by the end of this month, which is when the terraffs are scheduled to go into effect. If they do go into effect,
look for China to retaliate with terrafs on ice vehicles aimed directly at German automakers. And right in the middle
of this Chinese automaker Leap Motor is showing how it's getting a lot of help from Stalantis to enter the European market. Leip Motor already has two hundred dealers in
thirteen countries and plans to grow that to five hundred by the end of next year. It's starting out in
Europe with models that it already offers in China. The
C ten will sell for thirty six thousan four hundred euros, while the TO three is already on sale for just under nineteen thousand euros and is now getting built in Poland as well. But Leap Motor just introduced one of
its first new models meant for international markets. The B
ten is a C segment suv that, according to Gascu, got help from Maserati fine tuning the chassis. It's quote
the first of many B series vehicles that will launch next year. The B ten is built on Leap Motor's
Leap three point five architecture, which will offer a smart cockpit and levels of driver assistance that require light our sensors.
The model will most likely launch as a BEEV, but Carnu's China reports it could also come with an extended range EV. No word on how much it will cost
in Europe, but in China pricing is reported to range from about fourteen thousand to twenty one thousand dollars.
Speaker 3: Knowing that a little rain won't slow down your day, That's what really matters. Breach done to runs a quiet, tract, tires,
confident control in wet conditions.
Speaker 2: Sticking with evs for Europe, Ford is getting ready to expand its electric van lineup the E Tornao, which is the passenger version of the E Transit Courier commercial van is about to go into production and will start reaching customer hands next spring. The powertrain pairs of one hundred
kilowatt or one hundred and thirty four horse power electric motor with a forty three KILOWATA or battery pack which combines for up to two hundred and eighty eight kilometers or about one hundred and eighty miles of range. Other
things of note include a seven hundred and fifty kilogram towing capacity, one hundred kilowat charging capability, and dual twelve inch digital screens. The new E Tornado will be built
alongside the IC versions of the Tornado and Transit Courier in Romania. And speaking of Ford, it's coming out with
a special edition Bronco to honor a pass legend. Bill
Strope is an off road icon that built in race modified Broncos in the sixties and seventies, helping establish the suv as a real competitor in events like the Baja one thousand. So now Ford is coming out with the
Bronco Stroke Special Edition, which has all kinds of suspension and chassis upgrades. It's only available as a two door
and also features an orange, white and blue paint scheme like those old racing broncos as well. No word on pricing,
but the model goes on sale in January. The US
just took another step towards becoming more self sufficient in making automotive microprocessors. Wolf Speed, which supplies General Motors, JLR,
Mercedes and others, qualified for a seven hundred and fifty million dollar US grant for a silicon carbide wafer manufacturing plant in North Carolina. The money comes from the Chips
and Science Act, which is designed to help boost chip manufacturing in the US. Wolf Speed says investment funds have
agreed to provide an additional seven hundred and fifty million bucks, which will help expand its silicon carbide manufacturing plant in New York and increase production by thirty percent. Wolf Speed
is investing a total of six billion dollars to expand its US operations. Hydrogen vehicles keep making progress, albeit slowly.
Daimler Buses just partner with H two Mobility, the largest operator of public hydrogen stations in Europe, which will allow customers using its ecidero fuel cell bus to fuel up at H two stations. H two is also building new
stations around other transportation companies, and its hydrogen dispenser can even be installed at the operator's own depot. H two
Mobility plans to have fifty refueling stations in Germany by the end of the year. The testless Semi is getting
a big thumbs up from delivery company DHL, which first said it wanted to buy the Semi when it debuted in twenty seventeen. DHL put the truck through a two
week summer trial in California, driving it a total of three thousand miles in normal operations. That included one continuous
section of three hundred and ninety miles with a typical DHL load of seventy five thousand pounds, and DHL says it could have gone five hundred miles. The Semi averaged
one point seven two kilowat hours per mile during its test, which exceeded its expectations. So now DHL is studying how
it can integrate the Tesla Semi into its fleet. We
think GM is bringing back extended range electrics or erevs, but unfortunately this is not a vehicle you or I can buy like the volt. It revealed its next gen
tactical vehicle prototype for the military. The model is based
on the Chevrolet Silverado twenty five hundred HDZR two, but it features a two point eight liter Duramax diesel engine combined with a twelve module battery pack and electric motors that drive the front rear axles. Add in that one
of the goals was offering a significant range, and that's why we think this is an e rev Even though this is a prototype as well, GM says it can be customized and fielded right now. That brings us to
the end of today's show. Thanks for tuning in.
