Public charging infrastructure means places where you can charge your electric car when you're not at home. It's important for people to use electric cars more easily.
Volkswagen is a big car company from Germany that makes many different types of cars. Recently, they have been selling fewer cars in China, which is a big market for them.
A hybrid powertrain is a type of engine that uses both gasoline and electricity to make the car run. This helps save fuel and is better for the environment.
New energy vehicles are cars that run on electricity or other alternative fuels instead of gasoline or diesel. They include electric cars and hybrids, which help reduce pollution and reliance on oil.
Active aerodynamics are features in cars that change shape or position to help the car move better through the air. This can improve speed and fuel efficiency by making the car more aerodynamic when needed.

Speaker 1: This is Autoline Daily, the show dedicated to enthusiasts of the global automotive industry. Despite writing off billions in EV investments,
GM CEO Mary Barr says the company is still committed to electric vehicles. Speaking to the Automotive Press Association in
Detroit yesterday, she said that eighty percent of customers who buy an EV will buy another, and that once the United States has a robust public charging infrastructure, it will unlock a lot more EV adoption. Barra also expressed surprise
that some automakers are backing out of the segment so quickly.
She said, no one knows what the situation will be like in twenty twenty nine, twenty thirty, or twenty thirty one, and maybe she's hinting at a possible political change in the US that would change government policy regarding electric vehicles.
And speaking of GM, it started moving into its new headquarters this week, located on the site of an old H.
Hudson's department store in the heart of Detroit, GM will occupy two thirds of the newly constructed twelve story building, while the human resources, legal, finance, and corporate strategy teams will all work out of the new headquarters. There's only
four permanent offices, and two of those are for the president and CEO. The rest is made up of flexible
seating spaces and conference rooms, as well as an open kitchen area. It was actually the GM design team that
came up with the inside look of the building, and they took inspiration from all around the automaker. The overall
style is similar to the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, which was crafted about seventy years ago. There's door handles
that are wrapped and stitched like leather, steering wheels, and some seating uses fabric recreated from a nineteen fifty nine Cadillac.
Due to slumping sales in the US and China, the Volkswagen brand was down globally last year. The automaker sold
four point seven three million vehicles in twenty twenty five, a drop a one point four percent from the year before.
VW dominated the Chinese market not too long ago, but last year it fell to number three in sales, behind BYD and GLY respectively, and VW blames Tarras for its sales drop in the US.
Speaker 2: But despite a.
Speaker 1: Tough year in China, in the US, VW managed to boost sales five percent in Europe and nearly twenty percent in South America, and the automakers sold three hundred and eighty two thousand fully electric vehicles globally last year, a drop of just zero point two percent. At CES last week,
Hundai really emphasized its development with humanoid robots. While no wonder,
investors looking for a robot play have driven Hundai's stock up thirty six percent just this month alone, adding another twenty four billion dollars to the company's market cap, and there's more to come. Honday announced that cees that it
will start building thirty thousand robots a year at its US manufacturing complex in Georgia. It's even going to lease
them as robots as a service model. And don't forget
Hondai bought Boston Dynamics several years ago and it's one of the leading robotics companies in the world. And even
at the current state of development, these humanoid robots can do just about any job in an automotive assembly plan.
Speaker 3: The automotive and industrial sectors are undergoing a historic transformation electrification, digitalization, supply chain reinvention, regulatory shifts. The pace is accelerating and
the pressure to adapt is real. This is not a
time for hesitation. It's a time for bold decisions backed
by fast, effective execution. You need a partner who understands
complexity from factory floors to border rooms and delivers measurable results.
That partner is Alex Partners when it really matters.
Speaker 1: President Trump is visiting Detroit today to tout is manufacturing agenda.
He'll speak at the Detroit Economic Club and also tour Fords Plant and Dearborn, which makes the F one fifty.
The trip also coincides with the start of the Detroit Auto Show. One thing that Detroit automakers hope to hear
from the President is clarity on the trade deal with Canada and Mexico. Trump promised that his terraff would lead
to a boost in manufacturing, but last month, factory employment fell by eight thousand jobs nationwide, and Trump's approval on cost of living issues is at just twenty seven percent.
Renault took the wraps off a new SUV for global markets called the Filante. The model is based on a
Glee platform and will be built at Renaud's plant in South Korea, which is part of a strategic plan the two companies first announced four years ago. This CMA platform
will be used for higher end D and E segment models with two and four wheel drive and available in most cases with the hybrid power train. The Folante is
a traditional hybrid that's powered by a one point five liter engine and two electric motors that produced two hundred and forty seven horse power. That set up returns an
estimated thirty five MPGs or six point six liters per one hundred kilometers. The Falante first goes on sale in
South Korea in the coming months with a starting price of just under thirty thousand bucks. It will also be
sold in South America and the Middle East. We've got
a good wrap up of what happened in the Chinese car market last year. Automakers sold twenty three point seven
million passenger vehicles, up three point eight percent. Chinese domestic
brands captured sixty five percent of the market, up four point eight percentage points, as most foreign automakers continued to lose share. New energy vehicles hit more than twelve million vehicles,
accounting for fifty nine percent of all sales. We think
that the shows that demand for evs and plugins is now driven by the market, not by regulations. Luxury brands
accounted for thirty nine percent of all ANYV sales, and yet China's overall sales fell fourteen percent in December, suggesting that twenty twenty six could be off to a much slower start. Ferrari is considering a new approach to active aerodynamics.
The automaker filed a patent in the US for a system that uses predictive algorithms to anticipate when and how to deploy ARO elements, rather than just relying on driver inputs to make adjustments. Aerodynamics can have a massive impact
on a vehicle's performance, handling, and efficiency, so there could be a lot of benefit to a system like this.
That wraps up today's show. Thanks for tuning in.
