Good friend, who is now good friend of the show Thomas.
Hey, Don great to be on the show with all of you very well.
Thank you. Now, always, thanks for having
you on. I didn't get your last night.
I never get your last name. It's is it, it's very easy and
remember, Brooks. It's Britney.
Looks at the day. That's right.
Okay, there you go. So it without the e.
Matthew Is it a solid e? Is it like a soft?
A softly. How are we gents very well, many
very well. Maybe the bird still looks sick
is still a bit sniffly. Yeah, it quite comes.
And goes like, I'm a don't know what to do.
I blow my nose, I'm good for ingredients.
Comes every Tuesday night, like a wave of sickness, just before the podcast, always eat. Just had to, you know, as soon
as I got the message from Matt, it's just like my mom.
My mind. I was like, that's it yet.
Maybe you're allergic to that Bloody hoodie.
You're always wearing with the dogs off the art, I'm getting a bit warm. So, give me one moment.
Live already take off, here we go on, and on the angle that bed looks really heavy guy. How about that?
Annoys sickness, all good, all fixed or fixed Scotty.
How are you mate? I am doing quite well.
Actually doing good back to school and all that jazz right?
Our star. So did you have kids yesterday?
Aaron you have kids back yesterday?
Yes, yes, yes. So, do you like my
sister-in-law? Why I love teacher?
Friends of like, yeah, we had a curriculum them like that.
That's crap man. We straight into it.
Yeah. Zachari was straight into it.
Sure. It was you're running the all
about us tonight on the show which are, which is a, which we'll get to in a little bit, but we'll go around the screens and then we'll get to our special guest Thomas in a little bit for Little bit about him and he's cars but getting some car updates. Gentlemen, we go.
Also suppose, do you Scotty Scotty?
So we missed you last week. Big news in the 31, it went in
and gets, got some work done. What's been happening in that
space. We closer to getting it in the
room, what's happening? Okay.
So I haven't got the car back yet because I said, there's no rush for it. Take your time.
Getting the couple things done that, I wanted.
Yeah, no turns out that. It's needs to drop the fuel tank
to change the fuel hoses. I'm like, that's fine.
I'm happy not to do that job. Yeah, I'm happy to pay for that
one. The seized brake caliper that
was fixed. Didn't need parts for anything
like that. He's able to fix that.
All I have to do is when I get it back as do a brake fluid flush because it's all kind of rusted and stuff like that.
So and that it shouldn't sneeze again after that.
Leaking tire that I had turns out the rim has a crack in it, so I have to get that. See if I can get that repaired,
which means I'll grab the talkies and just get some cheap tires thrown on it, which I was going to anyway, to get it passed. Roadworthy, anyway, some of the
other things that he did say, at the beginning kind of annoyed me because really wasn't true. Or anything, from the original
place. I went to is talking about
accelerator cable. Reckons, you know, I reasons
like, is leaking like a sieve, like it's not leaking anywhere, I'll park it ages. Look underneath it.
Nothing snot dripping leaking. So, all I have to do is, give
you a very good clean underneath.
I think he's just looking at all the old stuff because I haven't really clean underneath it properly since I've changed some gaskets here and there. So, Clean up your outfit for you
and for Tom that car winning. Squeeze out.
That he wants Colin waiting for a roadworthy checking the list that came back, was absolutely horrendous.
It was huge, it was absurd, it was, which we will look at it.
When he serious like this is, this is beyond nuts, but then you took it to this second place here.
Yeah. Just to get a couple things done
and then for some reason, they thought that I took it there to get a roadway, the inspection, but I just wanted a bunch of things done. Did they do they give you a
Like, reach it while they do like inspections, but not actually do the road where these themselves and he was just saying, I know you got this. There's fa la la la la.
Like, I don't think so. Suspension, big makes sense.
That's fine. So I can get some good OEM
replacement suspension parts where I don't need to try and grab old parts. Off and pushing.
New bushes will just replace old, just replace the whole thing. I reckon that'd be a pain in the
arse and silly keeping something that's you know over 20 years old well over 20 years old. And removing these old
suspension bits and pushing in brand new bushes when I can just replace it as a whole. Yeah, would you would you say on
just standard still 31 suspension like Knuckles arms and everything instead of 13. So I know a lot of people do
that for a lot of things. Yeah, I love that it's just it's
now hard to find those parts. I made a change it so I need
like an Ester. Dean cradle, have fun trying to
find one of those would be digging around pages and then it would just never don't forget on the road because obviously be waiting for parts and trying to accumulate all the bits of pieces and we whatever the roads going to be how far is that can't now. I just want to get the
suspension stuff done clean underneath.
See if there's any leaks and should be ready, then that's it.
It's an RV 3031. Yes.
I know that, I'm usually the engine.
Yeah, I'll be 30 in that one. Yep.
Yes. I just need to tick off some of
those bits and pieces. As I said, I'll just put this
stock keys on there and just get some basic tires, it should be pretty cheap because they're very theme tires anyway that comes with Remember what they are off the top of my head.
But yeah, very thin anyway, so just should be easy and that'll pass. I'll take a look at this
exhilarated cable that he's talking about.
I don't know much about to get another one.
Anyway, if I need to but easy, I don't know what remains that, your pardon. You can have them remade.
Like, if you take up the original, take it to someone.
They'll just be making a new cable.
Oh yeah. Yeah.
Like I shall not be able to do it.
Yeah, true. Yep.
Have you had trouble with parts from Neeson is a lot of stuff to live. Not anymore.
Now, if I want brand new can't really get them anymore.
Everyone wants to like the brand new taillights and stuff like that. That's all gone.
Yeah. Brand new bumpers.
Can't get any more brand-new front.
Bumpers. You can't get any more.
You mean, I like what he wanted. Sorry is your 31 ATI or GXE?
D x-- e x-- or an executive could be an executive.
Nothing was yeah the GX equals an executive jaxa silhouette and then it's pi and then your GTR think GTS Studios.
Yeah. GTS which I saw a really Patrick
a nice organized GT, a really nice red GTS in the weekend and we were like, whoa it was yeah, it sounded good to me.
We take office. Like that's a white is yours.
Have is to have the with the horizontal line or the to ellipsoid ones. Now - the horizontal line, so
they call those other ones, the afterburners.
Now, the version that afterburners those me.
And one of those is, if you wanted a real loss to this got lost Scott, but we've gained Luca How's that look?
Ricky just booted out Scotty alloy?
Yeah, we lost Luca. Luca could you talk about Scott
Skyline on the Scotties? Completely died back on but we
are joined by Luca, which we'll get to In a minute, legal will move on to Patrick Patrick cards with you.
Updates. Yeah.
I mean I things change, you know, Castle or I've mastered own issues with it, still looking on the market and it is still up for sale. So whenever anyone listening
when we wanted to buy, it's for sale, contact me or contact?
Me Maddy said with ready arm, but besides that man, you know, issues are actually on Sunday. I did have a little knock, I
open eyes. So I stopped by your house or
from the fuel tank so I expected it more couldn't find anything.
I thought maybe my exhaust hangers or whatever seen that was knocking. So I just tighten everything up.
Make sure that was all good and so far you haven't heard anything solid so I think a cat or something.
Sorry, you might have run over a cat.
Oh that's my I don't know what would have happened because I love you too. Getting right on Sunday.
I stopped by at Maddie's house, more before I get pulled into his trait, a lunatic in a Barina pulled out of nowhere.
Slammed on the brakes, Tom Donohue.
Own, and then I do. As soon as I started to notice
this, take off again. I just heard like a clunking in
the rear and I'm like, oh great. Here we go.
And it sounds like similar, like, had a very distinguished similar sound to when I did the fuel tank, not ongoing my car.
So I didn't want to risk anything, you know, if anything Falls up falls out as I'm driving down the me.
So, I just jumped in with Matt, but, yeah, it's had a look at it underneath checked. It hiding everything by showing
yes. So far.
So good. So, Probably was maybe just
gonna help maybe from when I was reinstalling the tank.
I forgot to put the arm hangs on the, from the exhaust properly on because I was kind of like rushing.
It was like 8:00 at night on my back, can't see anything you like. Yeah, so it's my time it's
probably the brain as fault. I mean like that caused me to
suddenly jump on the brake green, it for your Chunky Tink work. I know that burrito as well.
Patrick, I know that going to exactly the person in the car and he came out of nowhere. Yeah, I'm doing the speed limit.
And then he wasn't even looking jumped.
Thank God. I got good brakes and up node
and a good ties and I was able to stop by fuck man, some people don't even look where they're going so seriously but you know it is what it is. And yeah.
But that's it kind of takes you back to the Scotty.
Thanks Patty. Scottysire you I'm back back to
call you just now that'll do just kick me out.
So we Far off this 31. Now we're we can see the light
at the end of the tunnel. Yes, yes, definitely.
Yep, yep, yep. So just comes down to funds at
the moment. So rather than that, everything
is all good. I know.
I mean, you can help you with funds.
His name's Edward is no, cashier Luca is Naval battles.
Me I can help you, avoid worthy contact, but not the funds.
Well, it's quite if everyone a stiff.
You ever want to sell mate? You know, I'm always eager.
Okay, 15 grand 1531, I know what. 15, Grant the dreaming.
I know what I've got. Yeah.
I know what I've got is just a manual swap, which mine's pretty close to. I've got all the parts for it.
Wednesday was overly clean. It was, it was all right.
It was t.i. But I mean, t.i. some not really
overly. Special.
He was selling for 50. Trying to sell for 15 grand.
Who knows what? He's got.
Yeah. 15:15 sorry. Did you say it's 15?
Yeah, 15. I would love to.
I Don't Think Tank Man. Would be all right.
Yeah 50 Grand. Yeah.
Well that's good to hear. It's almost there.
So we know a little bit more time in Have the 31 on the road.
You know the deadline is the non is for classic Japan in the vso.
We've got to make sure it's there.
Yep, yep, yep. Yep, we'll move to Luca.
Look at the show. I've been busy, I can tell
you've been a bit busy. You've been now, six months,
Maybe And you did half the work Blackwater or call that.
I mean, none of the work updates with your cars when we're having anyone. In the wall.
You've got a new acquisition, which I, which I mentioned on the show, w204 C63 AMG. Beautiful girl, to be honest,
I've never driven one before till we started having a look around and by the Germans they had to make a car.
So I'm saying okay. Some things, right?
Yeah, sometimes do, mmm, sometimes, not sometimes.
But just going from a falcon and hopping in that car.
Like I said, to you the other night, like, when we took the F6 out, it's just, it's obviously not a company car, it used to be comfy car, but you go from that and then I took the C63 honest, like shit. Like they just feel so rugged
and I know you just feel, so, like, claim to the road.
Yeah, I know they just they just drive so well it's hard to.
It's hard to explain the differences.
Are you talking about compare? It comparing to your Ranger on
it Caillou. Number 66 right now, it's a
pretty rough Drive. Obviously with the work done
excetera. Yeah, they've gone from a stock
standard falcon. To lie because they're around
the same with the C63 Stars. A little bit more like for like
back in the day. Correct.
Yeah well against York if six. Yeah it was the same old of the
C63 s back to the day. 90. No really
Spec down and quite a long way down was 90, which is like a 325i, 03:30 difference in there. Yeah, I know.
They just drive completely different.
Sorry. I was just going to say that
that is. You know, there's people out
there go, all you did was just a bird, you just pay for a badge, you know, but when you dig a Little Deeper, there is a lot of core engineering that you're getting in cars like that.
Yeah, that a human died. Just doesn't have now granted,
you and eyes and all those less. Premium brands are getting
better and better and better. There's no question that the
current Cromwell very, very good cars.
But there is this core DNA in a Benz or a BMW that have been specializing in honing and tweaking that for 50 years and that's got to achieve something. Yeah.
Like just a saying too much the way they just drive especially the C63 I've driven a whole lot of perks in my lifetime but They're jumping in the C63 s. It's an amazing machine.
Well, I'm doing a few 2004's of doing a C, 250 CDI.
I drove a c200 and then obviously your what I mean, it's a big job up in comparison of car, but like they all felt quite solid on the road and I met it doesn't say that your wife sees is not a bad as a bad card.
It's just, it's a different different.
It's a different kind car. Yeah, and it's and it's it
seemed to thing to see them back, way back.
I mean, whenever I, I mean I'll get like the LTD and the and the 124 which are the same year and you have been back-to-back, they come they dropped completely different, they both do things that over that others do better than you know, than one another.
So but in terms of, in terms of that yeah they do drug really nicely, they feel really solid and they feel really heavy on the road. Yeah, that's right question.
What is the LTD do better than the 124?
Welcome to bleep room? Other than the big room
comfortable, it's more comfortable, comfortable.
It is, it is. It's actually Easily more
comfortable. What's a longer wheelbase longer
wheelbase? Yeah, it's it's yeah, it does
that better. It does the, the freeway
journey, I think better. So which says a lot time is I by
said for god sakes but yeah, no, it's I guess some of, the reason why I've done a bit of an Edward here, and I've bought it partially as an investment. Steve over see how I go.
I mean if I got off the ride money for in a couple years, I'll get rid of it. But yeah it's a nice Connor
that's for sure. Do you think it's gonna go up
Luka? I'll do it might be right.
What do you reckon? Tummy 63 degrees.
It's always going to be easiest laughs.
That's a, that's a special special car in terms of what it'd be worth in 10 years. Who knows?
Well, definitely something. That's that's double the other
thing. I'm going to lose money on it.
I wouldn't say but just the fact that they're not making the V8 any more, natural aspirated, all turbo.
The last naturally aspirated actually, that's fucking naturally. I
like the way the car markets gone.
I know, obviously, now, with inflation and I bullshit interest rates going up, things will kind of settle.
So yeah, yeah, if fires that we got off of, there are money for, in a couple years of probably get rid of it.
But for now, it's just there to enjoy.
Let's go baby sleeps in the back as well.
Well, baby, you puking all over the Placing I can go.
Yeah. With my what color is it gray
silver silver or nice? Easy to keep clean.
Yeah. Yeah.
I said a black one looks. It wasn't a whole lot up for so
that looked okay and unmolested. What plates have you put on it
custom or the it might deflect them as they were?
Yeah but it was a yap yap 942 or something?
Yeah you know it's yeah can't really really nice car.
It did, it's ridiculously Mastery, like it happens.
And then, our can still one of the best sounding B ever.
It's just it's just an angry angry car and I really respect that for it will move on Edwards updates with you.
Hello. What have I done?
Sold. The Honda Civic that I had the
08 VT. I didn't even have to advertise
that someone at my mechanic wandered in and said it was that for sale. Bye Pat and I see Patrick.
Yeah. So basically yeah sort of solve
that through Word of Mouth, which is good.
What else does Subaru has had a little bit of steering wheel.
You know, stop turning love and paint.
Wipers Back to Black today by mr.
Prince, so that's had a few little items.
Improved, the Benzie 200 compressor.
Also, Silvan Luka. I'm also driving a silver bends
at the moment, except mine is very low, powered.
It's okay. Engine, you could get in that
heat class, but it does have a supercharger and I've enjoyed driving there and it's so incredibly comfy.
The ride is amazing. The steering, you know, the
Turning circle is fantastic. We took it up to where were we
Bendigo show? Running around it.
It's it's, and I had a bumper bar in the, in the, in the passenger seat going to the back.
And so, Tom was forced to sit in the back of it, limousine.
It was, it was as I did. I, when you drive.
It was a lovely, lovely place to be chauffeured around in the back of the knee. It really is something about
that, generation of Mercedes. They just they're very solid
very, it's a very cheap car, but it's a really tight.
Nice, one owner car talk. Yes, we do.
Yes, very tight like a tiger, yeah, Floyd my thoughts.
We'll be dropping in the bins. What else have I done?
I bought a fiesta, told you about that last episode?
I think, I think I picked up the fiesta.
So it's a no 4lx based model 3 door.
It's got 20,000 kilometers on it from you, which is quite remarkable for a 2004 car. And yeah, a couple of scratches
on the body but very, you know, pretty as new inside and just service. And what have you so just for
being serviced just instead It's just service oil change done.
So that car will be for sale soon.
I might have a buyer for that car.
Might have a buyer. Yes, you mentioned that all talk
to you first and what else have I done?
Are the two rival that I've got. Had quite horrible window,
tinting on it from 1986. So I had that taken off
yesterday morning, which has made a big Improvement.
You can now sort of see into it. It looks cleaner and lighter and
doesn't have a lot of bubbles in it.
It made a big difference to the appearance.
Of it. So that is progress and I feel
like there's something else. What else have I done?
Oh, Drago, I went on a dry. I just drive on Sunday for my
birthday. I took the time to Scamp and
halfway up the Arthur's seat, you know, Hill Climb.
He bit it died. And I left it on the side of the
road, and we came back later and got it.
I thought it might be low on fuel or that made a fuel pump or something. So, we spun it around pointing
down the hill and thinking that might help the fuel situation but it didn't still didn't start.
Then my friend pop the bonnet None of us had by the way, up to this point pop the Bonnet, we just don't know why.
We didn't even look. And here's our spark plug leads
off. So put that back on properly.
Scant fine. Like started straight up and I
drove it all the way home without a blip, but I was thinking about it afterwards thinking, it's kind of crucial in a two-cylinder engine to have both cylinders working in normal engine. If you lose a cylinder just runs
a bit rough but you'll still go this, you know, when you're two down to one, no, go Sakura introduction about.
Yeah, so that was an easy fix which is very satisfying but it didn't make it on all the nice roads but I jumped in my friends w123 bins which is a very nice car.
And that of course was a comfortable Drive, which was not the yellow one, white one. That was a white one, the yellow
one that another friend of mines got as a 240 diesel diesel or some white ones are 288. That's your big block, big six.
Yeah, straight-6 my that's about all I've been up to.
I think in the world of cars are the old Renault that I'm sort of chipping away at the background. The the old 68 Renault 16 Xpress
car is getting the engine. I gave the engine builder, a
donor motor that we thought had a better block that wasn't out of out of round with the liner balls and whatever.
And he said that looks really good.
Looks like a low-mileage motive reckons.
He can use it. So he's going to put new The
line is in that block and build up the motor from there.
He's the original numbers matching blocks?
No good. The original block had a year.
The where the line is going. He said, he's measured the boers
everything. He said, they're really out of
round. He said, I don't know why they
would go like that. But anything's fixable as he
said, you know, you can fix anything for money.
You could build it up and do this and he said, but if you've got an identical block sitting there, that's good, will you use that? So so I think I'm going to build
up that Lamb or chicken head. What are you talking?
You said Dona Dona Dona command. Chicken, chicken chicken.
You can always go with cars. Yeah, yeah, that's fine.
They can have the original block but I'm more concerned with getting the motor, the original spec, you know, like 1470 CC because it's got a slightly bigger motor in there which is not right for that year blah blah blah.
So when you bought it didn't have the original motor in it, just not kind of car. Someone's overheated or
something. Yeah, someone's done something
to it, at some point. Yeah, it's gotten hot.
Yeah, it's yeah. That is Edward.
Who's left Matthew? And yes.
Well, I'll go cuz we're gonna introduce Thompson in his car.
Very, very shortly. But this first time for Thomas.
Yes, mine, welcome and happy birthday, Ed.
Thank you. I'm very old.
He's nice and Young. If you're still here, ain't Ali
physically. People always ask about my
brother and they like, I see older or younger than them.
Like I'm physically older but not mentally copies with me.
I took the MR2 out to your drive and words and very nice.
Look very nice. Give it a good drive after
getting me the distributed done properly, it really exactly want to try it. It was they leak?
It's commenting on those and they caused them to serves to not be good. So I had it rebuilt and yeah,
put back together and now it's really good.
So rips actually goes well as we're driving, I put little Fuel and then I was like an upcoming last.
So I was like whatever words popped out.
Patrick was with me and we drive past and see the the Viper that was on your, on your birthday Drive.
Who's had a first gen y / there in 10?
And it was at the bottom up, so we did the right thing pulled over again. I'm dropping out and couldn't
get it started. Try to get good, a jerrycan and
heard the / the pump priming, but obviously wasn't getting enough fuel. So we kind of pushed off the
rose and a bit of a really crappy spot.
So we trouble is try for a good hour and a half to get it going.
Couldn't get it going so called the racv they came and towed it.
But you know, long story short, as a as they say, in Toy Story note, we gets left behind. No one is Left Behind.
We kind of helped me out and Yeah, he was, he was quite thankful for it as well. And he's a pretty cool guy is
telling us about the Articles, you can.
He's got a Jag E-Type and he's got, he's got two adventurers for some unknown reason. He's got over, he used to work
for holding and I actually went on.
I went on the launch of the adventure and of that, we're be Proving Ground. He was running that event at the
time. And so I went you went on the
launch. We drove the adventures around
the track and everything, but I think that's probably why he's got a soft spot for them because he was That holding when they launched that. That's really not a particularly
good car. That's it.
Yeah, it's very cool. Yeah.
It's like Holden's version of the Outback has even their only V8 and they came out. There wasn't a 66 into a bit
later. Bit lighting.
That's right. Yeah, cross track.
We should just reaching some of the cars that were on my birthday drive. So we had the, the 10 cylinder
Viper at the start. And then, as you said it died,
we had the m6 that Alex other term, it convenient.
And I've lead, M6. We had an mg TF from the 50s.
We had mean the two cylinder Scamp.
We had David in the Honda N1, we had Dan in the Honda Integra is a C30. There's a C32, a mgw 2003
Millions. Don't see many of those, the 240
diesel, the 280, petrol, Thomas in the 300 C Coupe.
And then we had a normal new Volvo.
What else is there? When I 7s are?
Oh yeah, the 38. Yes, L joined in a bit later,
got a plethora of what is quite a fag, really quite a big bug.
Maybe what's that? So that's not my bag.
That's not my bag, baby. What else do I have to tear up
to be wedding invited by little birthday Drive?
Why I invited your friends on Facebook with me?
I don't have Facebook. Well, there's your problem I
guess on Facebook. Guess my invite.
Invite invite on Facebook, that's our roles.
I can't manage all the people. You know, too many people.
I that's fine. I understand that's right.
That should have told you realize.
That's okay. He'll not high on your priority
list. I understand.
Okay, I'll take the invite off my fridge.
It was, it was a good day for what?
Five minute drive, why did of it?
But it was, it was, it was, it was good.
But on the way back, I'm getting off the freeway at become Road and I Hissing, scraping. And it was, I swear was the
weirdest thing because because Patrick and I were talking about how reliable it's been and you haven't had an issue with it.
And we legit said that, like two seconds before I put off the freeway music. Like, oh no, we just looked at
each other. Like we just drink to the car
and get it home. And but was a car in front of
me, something fell off. And I think that's what he hid
underneath my car and it was just one of the other traded come off. So I just, you know, put some
some the old zip ties underneath it and got it, got it, sorted can till I can get Clips for it. And yeah, that's that's all been
good. So that is it's on my car
updates. Now Thomas, your is your first
time on the show is having me, you know, anytime you've got you've got a really interesting car history and cut and kind of knowledge. What do you currently own?
What cars do you like? What would you like to own?
And yeah tell us to tell us a bit about yourself.
My friend. Oh Start with what cars are
currently own. So we have a, the daily driver.
The moment is a 2005, Renault Clio sport.
It's not a very popular car, but it's a special car and it's actually, it's actually the cuff.
Actually, the cut 182 that's a, that's a popular car is a popular car to follow. Yeah.
Among among a small number of enthusiasts.
Yeah, freak. Yeah, exactly.
I'm very fond of that. It's actually the first car of a
daily It's front-wheel drive, that's what it's changed.
Really my opinion on what a front-wheel drive car.
We talked about this earlier map, that will order front wheel drive car can do and how exciting that convey.
That's a, it's a great little car.
I'm very fond of it and if it was four thousand dollars and I just can't think of a anything else around that sort of money especially now, that that can bring those sort of Thrills.
And I just mentioned though that carries he falls in and out of love with things very quickly. Quickly that car the other week
had a cockroach in the air vent and Tom had spilled a bit of coffee in it. And that was basically a
write-off in his mind like that's good.
And I'm selling the Renault, it's got a cockroach in it and there's coffee spilled in it. I can't leave it any more, it's
going. And I just said, how about we
just remove the Cockroach and clean it and then it's fine.
Yeah, that was horrified. So now leaves.
It's a sin of the time. It's not a perfect.
Lake that zip fix now. I think so.
You clean the drains out or something?
Yeah, so but little French car things overall.
I'm very fond of that car. I've got a 993 Range Rover, so
that's the really the last of the classic Range Rovers.
It's a air suspension model in Aspen to.
I'm very fond of that car as well.
I've got a 1998, BMW E36 M3. So really one of the last years
of production for you, 86 M3, this car is quite unusual spec, being an SMG, so that's the hydraulic year box.
Electro-hydraulic gearbox, it's got a Harman Kardon stereo.
It's Fern green, which isn't very uncommon color on that model and that was a, I've always been an enormous fan of the E36. Chassis, that was the, that was
the peanut Cardinals in high school.
I thought they were beautiful. So, anyway, I'm very fond of
that card only driven at 1 km, because it's Fame at Mohegan BMW, exactly right. But how can you not love that
that car in that engine will come back to that in time.
I've also got a 989 Mercedes-Benz, 300 CE qu.
So, it's a 12-4 chassis similar to yours, Matt.
And that's why I'm very fond of that, as well.
I'd say that my twins black, which is not my favorite color, but it in terms of charcoal, it is a child.
It's a little bit more character than a fat black, but as a long distance to or that car is is is really incredible.
That's it. It's it's not a driver's car per
se but for eating up the miles on the highway that is special car. As many you'd agree.
We've all probably had some experience with that generation of Mercedes-Benz. Yes, I think I had yes Edwin's
one. Hmm.
I've also got a 1992 Nissan Troll with the teddy 42 that the GQ you selling that things to say oh everything's for sale.
It's one of the cleanest ones I've ever seen.
Luca. It's nice.
It's a very clean car. Yeah.
And and that facts for what it is that that's the cards.
Very hard. Not to like their the character
of that. Very simple, gear-driven diesel
is just, you can't it Polly. It's a very simple car.
It's almost a crude car in a way, but it's It's impossible not to like and it's just the feeling of turning the key in that car knowing it's always going to start and I'll take you anywhere is very special. So I'm very fond of that.
I've got a 1960 Land Rover Series 2A that I'm currently tinkering away with getting that running at sat for 10 years.
Only had two owners which is very unusual for Carla age.
Very fond of old trucks and old interest in cars like that.
And since then, I'm not expecting much as Driving Experience. Are only driven one before but
as a, as a mechanical object, I'll find those cars.
Very interesting. I've got another one of those as
well and I am 68. That's a short wheelbase and I'm
yet to pick that up. That was a I'm saying, purchase.
I think that's about all. I've got at the moment.
So, now my usual collection of cars, we all have driven by drive one of your cars. You've recently sold your email
92 That's right. You know need two and three.
Yeah they're with the 6-speed manual.
That was I really I really really like that guy.
That was a really cool car. Yeah.
And that's it. That was a that battle that car
when it was new would have been a very close competitor of Lucas AMG. They turn the other.
If you were you're a wealthy buyer and 2007 they really like the for to Holden but just the next step up.
Yeah. What about those cars for me?
Because even though the BMW biased, I also quite Like Mercedes, is that they look quite similar on paper in terms of power and not talk that the C63 s much more impressive there, but they do a quite similar on paper, but the drive experience very different and in impressive, in both cases, but different there, any twos are very you need to rev that car to get anything out of it. It's a it's a it's an exciting
experience driving that car, whereas the C63 for me, is one of the traditional VA. That makes a lot of power down
low. It's kind of easier to drive
every day. I think especially being manic
but they're both great. That's that's my one thing.
I don't like wine, automatic sports cars but there was obviously no option for manual on the C63.
That's where the BMW is good. Yeah.
Yeah. It was a great manual.
That car Designed for the DCT which was being W's replacement for the, the SMG gearbox. But that that wasn't actually
ready for the well, the first year of launch 2007.
So the early cars all had the six speed and it's a there's another there's not as many of them because as you can imagine most people opting for the DCT but it's a very in a way for me that made it more special because you get these.
These beautiful 4-liter V8 309 kilowatts. 200 RPM Redline with
you with the 6-speed behind it. There's just and you've sold
out. I hope you I did sell that.
Yeah. But I, it was a privilege owning
that cut and I'm occasion, driving it.
That was, that was one of the great.
So yeah, many things it. Okay.
Yeah. You did.
You did. Yeah.
No. I don't think it is the
crossplane? Okay.
Yeah, yeah. Just one.
Stuff. Scotty's also had a BMW SMG
powered car so he knows how you feel.
Yeah II know the pain, I know the pain, I wish you still had that. I've actually never driven in an
equally six and three Adrian's got one.
They do know that does have one. Use what he's going.
Got the tape broken M3 experience like with the be 46.
Not good, not good. When it was running and going.
NG. Well, it was, it was a great
car. I revved out really, really
nicely through the whole whole rev range all the way to Red Line. And the thing that I notice
where I was taking it to, to get all this work done to try and get it back to where it should be, he had a 996 Carrera 4S.
I'm not going to do a bit of a comparison between the two and the portion of the Porsche was great but the BMW just Like it could have just revved forever. I just felt so much more
smoother through the whole rev range.
It was, yeah. Sublime load up at high
maintenance. Yeah.
Characteristic that of that motor.
That is 64. Yeah.
Yeah. And and how does not involve
it's working meant. Yeah.
Sounds sounds great to do some good, they do sound good.
Did the. SMG gearbox?
Give you any issues in your ownership?
Yes, it's how to link which means are got into it and destroyed the whole pump. So, I had to get whole brand new
pump back then I think it was about Three, three and a half Grand, I think, for the smj pump, I don't know what they go for now, but gets back, which is nice.
Yep. All right, you've got that.
It was pretty. It was pretty much like a brand
new car by the end of all the stuff that got done brakes.
Got done every single gasket. The engine got all done with all
new gaskets, always through it all bush.
Pushes everything you name it. It got the what is it?
The re subframe was fixed. Welded ones so that was all
fixed. It did have a crack in it did
have a cracked. Yep.
But they repaired that and got the kit that you put on there and weld in to strengthen that back up again.
And how long do you want for that?
The about three weeks? Maybe close to two years.
I'd say it's just I put in so much money into it to the point where I put in about over half of how much I bought the car for consider like that much money and then all of a sudden, the ignition in it went which then fried the SMG selector and then I had to get a whole new key and select your and everything.
And that was like three and a half gram, just like that.
That's when I was like no, this is ridiculous.
I mean to put that much money into it and everything and then these other little electrical Gremlins as like not if it's going and that's when I tried it in and picked up a see 43 AMG, a very nice young bubblegum w202. Yeah, to I thought you, I
thought you were to I 2. I would like to get behind
another 20 to again in the future me too.
That's a rare car V8. And was yeah, what year was that
first year that I'm at 98. I think it was.
And was it black - Sylva? That would be a very nice silver
black interior. It was an absolute tank,
everything about it. Like build quality in that it
was had. No rattles.
There was no squeaks. Anything, the door closed with
that perfect Mercedes thud, it was.
Yeah, it just felt like you're driving a tank, not in heavy sense but like Quality sense of spiritual strength.
Yeah. Just solid same time.
Yeah. And you don't have that anymore.
That's right. That one's gone.
Great Heavens. Just got your dreams of owning a
car like that. There's not.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's one car that I won't
forget. You know, I'd love to I love the
seats. The way you could use the
controls on the side of the seats and it would press you in, and it was done with this was done with just like pressurized air in these likely airbag things on the side.
And it would and expand and squish you in if you want a Tighter. And yeah, I liked our little
quirks and that on it, but yes, solid V8 for something that was only 4 .3 liter. It was, it was pretty good.
Boogie a bit. You could get a little bit
happy. Get a bit sideways if you wanted
to, but it also blend it in and everyone just looked at.
It's just it's just some societies.
But if you know what beautiful, leave that car.
Mmm. Yeah.
You wouldn't know if you do, you know, double square tail.
Other Alto part? Yeah.
It's a new there's something special certain underneath.
Yeah, we've been through all this details for all of them episode. That's already well to be back
on soon. And have you love you?
Like, go through them properly with a fine-tooth comb?
And yeah, and you don't love that as well.
I'm sure she was Noble episode episode special, but that's, you see. You've got some, you got some
really cool cars there. I know the fuel, those perk
Lucy's up the, especially the old 4.2 GQ.
Mmm. So yeah, they're actually a
really cool car and that one's a mint example like it's stunning.
Um, so, but not really cool cars.
Anything that you want to buy in the future that like anything that's on the list that you need to have before we move on.
There's quite a lot of K. Yeah.
Like all of you, I've got a long list cars.
I love down some there, require that.
He's just a few cars that are a few and the first one, it would actually be. It's going to be an E46 M3.
That's all that I've always, it's always eluded me slightly.
So I've never come close but never quite They now to get myself into one Scotty hasn't put you off with his, you know, I love the idea of of buying an unreliable car and making it relied. I'm just fascinated by.
And I have failed many times in this suit that even his exam three is I think is for me is worth that, that expenditure, but it would have to be the right spec.
I think my dream colored me Phoenix yellow, which was the launch color that I I would be comfortable with an SMG, especially after having a brief experience with its distant ancestor and the SMG, one in my existing E36 M3, but I would prefer a prefer manual, because I think it's really, that's the Enthusiast Choice as reasonable as the SMG is.
I think it's people are just starting to appreciate that.
That's quite a reasonable transmission, but and I think that's a car that that keeps me up at night, that I will truly love to own. I think, look one day, Apps,
that will have the other one, the other one.
And this is a bit of a generic answer that it would be a, an are called 911 and 993 is especially the generation.
That's something I love to do. I probably will never but I love
to what about E30 M3? That's the third one.
Yeah. So the very first M3 ever.
Ever made the E30 generation. I think that is a, that is a
very special car with a pedigree that.
Not many other cars can match. Each loved Emily lies and and
I've Come Close once again. I remember, just before covid,
there was an example for thirty, five thousand dollars was German to lived car and black. It had heated seats heated,
leather seats, it had a blown engine.
But that's, that's something that you can fix.
And it was yeah. 35 thousand dollars which is, which is now
very cheap those cars now. Well, north of 100,000 and it
was just Out Of Reach but that's car.
You know, we always think about the ones that we've just missed out on that, for me. Is that is one of them got away.
Yeah, exactly. The One That Got Away.
That it was the one you just sold recently that, you know, I need to, you know, him too. Yeah, yeah.
And that, was that what? That was a car.
I former dream car and wine so that are and where they came out, I remember seeing the launch photos of those.
In the magazines, I remember just being amazed that this an M3, have a V8 in it, love those a high-revving VA.
I Thought what that must be incredible and and it really did live up to my expectations in many were not at all, but in many ways but I think in retrospect I think that the the earlier cars were bit more me, more of an old car person and I love that the lighter earlier six-cylinder and for Senor lo que sea 30 and threes as special as that the egg was.
Yeah. So I think those are those those
probably up I would say it's the cars that I really dream about that and we've all got those those special cars.
But maybe those are those are up there.
I think yeah, it's a good list to have.
Yeah, well that's it for our special topic.
It is Well, tonight's is Scotty's turn in the hot seat to talk to give us a rundown all about Skyline.
Listen Skyline, that is telling us about it.
It was doing the quiz, quizzing us about them basically.
It's he's going to tell us all you need to know to understand what made the skyline and and the essential Powerhouse that it is today. So Scotty, it's floor is yours.
They can the right over to me. So I'm not going to start all
the way back. I'm going to start with the are
30 ones. I thought I'd start there
because that's where people are mainly familiar with and that's when Australia pretty much finally got their hands on them.
Because the previous ones were registered in Japan.
So I just leave those ones out. So a little bit about the r31
and this is just coming from me. I'm not really an expert.
I quickly put that out there. Now it's just from me liking
them for so many years and just some information I picked up here and there and watched and through other people's experiences and things like that.
So most of my information should be fairly accurate from what I heard, but if not then, Shoot me down our 31's was the first Skyline that we finally got in Australia but it was rather different than what Japan got. So Japan's 31 came in two-door
and four-door it's had independent rear suspension and ours came as the solid live re axle.
So a little bit difference is there Had a turbo variant hours did not. So we just got the rb30e which
is weird because like they get the had a turbo version the VL and yeah it made no sense as to why they endure turbocharged Skyline. Like, you know, it's like a
thirty one that we got here. But anyway, we just sell priming
economy. Everyone probably get it, get
it, 25 years, down the track. He do it yourself.
Now, it's pretty easy to do. Most people do it Bobby. 30s can
handle it. A lot of people grabbing our be
30 and put a 26 head on them. Pretty pretty common.
Now, I'll go into a bit more detail on the engines further on but I just go through the models first and their differences.
So Japanese r31 came with the RV 20, the turbo variant as well.
There's different tops as the red top on them, which is very hard to find but you're better off.
With the ones in the 32s between turbo variants going through those lines. What else about the 31's?
Not too much more. I mean there were you've got the
two-door ones which were fairly sporty.
The GDs are, which is super duper are the four-door ones in Japan. Was the passage.
That's kind of looked like the front as our t.i. model.
So the grill and the hood Could the Bonnet was a little bit different in those ones and that's sought after here as well. Obviously, the seats in those
passage were all four new one in many different colors from a very nice, deep purple. Color to a nice rich red color.
In other words, they yeah. So again that's another thing
that's sought after people want to put Eyes into the Ozzy delivered ones, which were they which they will fit in there.
Fine. No, dramas from what I have
heard. But if you want to put 32 33, 34
seats in that, that is a new. You would have to do a bit of
customization on your seat rails and crap like that.
If you got a fabricating, go for it.
If not like me, then don't go for it.
If you would love to change your steering wheels in your 31's, you can put in almost any kind of nice and steering wheel in there. You can put a 32 wheel or 33 or
34. Will any of the SSRS for teens
and f-15s although steering wheels will fit straight in.
When I read about that, I was kind of like, okay I'll test it out and I got a 34 steering wheel form straight into the 31 easy. Yeah, yep.
So you can if you want You can stay with the stock ones, if you want some of the good steering wheels that like the Silhouettes that we got here. If you want those ones, then
expect to pay hundreds upon hundreds of dollars and if you want the ones that came in the Japanese ones, expect to pay the same amount if not more, some of them going for like a thousand bucks. Yeah, ouch one of that.
So that will hurt the pocket but other said everything's getting rarer and rarer. Our hard to find these parts.
People want them. Can't get them yet.
So bit trickier. If you want those bits and
pieces, but some of it is interchangeable.
If you want a 31-6 from a Japanese model, put into your Ozzy delivered one. That is a lot of work, it's not
an easy swap. So that's a common thing that
people want to do because the cluster in the Aussie delivered, one's a pretty average and mess up all the time.
If you're a dominator does break and doesn't work in your All you need is a tiny replacement Cog, plastic Cog that goes in there and it'll be fixed and start working again.
They seem to be prone to Breaking All the Time.
Many of you gauges probably won't work in your eyes and believe it or not unfortunately that's pretty common.
You can either punch it. Punch the dash if you want and
it might start working again. If not you'll need to take it
out and usually resolve during can fix your problem.
Just because of the age and the solder start to crack and go really bad. The models that we got was the
base executive from memory and then you had the one that I've got, the mid-range one that's came with I think different material and seats in there. And then you got the ti that can
have power windows and more comfortable seats as well.
Which Don't think that well, I don't reckon this 8th that well in the T.I.'s T.
I had like a buttoned, you know, like a Chesterfield khaki sort of button +. Yeah.
And they all are kind of ragged and outstretched and or floppy now. Well, I guess some of that lost
a lot of weight and had loose skin looked a bit, like, he's exactly right? Yeah, that's what they kind of
look like now. So, don't look the best.
I'm not sure if you can fix them or anything like that.
I haven't seen any of them in good condition or fix that like it when they were new. They would they're a bit
loosey-goosey. So, 30 ones they had, they had
the exact the GXE. But how many series that was a
to serial three series of 31? Yes, 3 series three.
We had the series 1 and Series 2, pretty much look the same, like pretty much like a brick Series 3 is the front that everyone pretty much wants. So, serious, three front is what
everyone was trying to change them to, and things like that.
I'm some special models with the GTS one.
The GTS, one came in. Geez, I can remember was a
series 1 and Series 2 and then the GDs to model came out in the series. Three look, so that had all
different front side. Skirts rear bumpers, mild cams,
in it to get a bit more power out of it and different different wheels and stuff like that.
So it was quite a bit done to it, but yeah, that's a pretty nice. Very rare.
Very special problem. Yes, you probably not going to
find very many. Now I think I saw him on pop up
for sale for about 40 odd, I think that 40K around that.
So I think or couple years ago before all these price hikes and stuff, I think they're going for like 20 to 30.
So they weren't, you know, people weren't really into them.
And things like that people would use maybe 30 ones just to thrash around and drift and stuff like that.
That. So that's where I think most of
them, probably ended up parts aren't too hard to find as many people. Stripping them everywhere, But
if you want new parts, then like new bumpers and things like that. No, not going to get them.
So you just have to go second hand and hopefully it's in good condition and maybe Body Shop to try and fix it up.
If need be they weren't all the way to 1989 or maybe 1995 just scraped in a 1992 finish off. I think they did even 91.
Just. Yeah, they might of just then.
And that's Overlapping to when the R32 came out.
So that one came out in 89. And that's when we know all
about, the 32 GTRs, through all the touring cars and group a racing, how they start to dominate.
And then they got kicked out of Australian touring cars.
Pretty interesting story, how we innovated and did quite a lot on that 32, gdr, when it was sent out, there's a lot faster and easier to drive compared to the group a like the Cal Sonic that everyone loves the blue cal Sonic 1 Livery, so Gibson Motorsport did a hell of a lot. Their own in-house turbos made a
lot more horsepower. They got rid of the four-wheel
steering because it made it feel a little jittery.
They got rid of that. They were able to crack into the
four-wheel-drive system so they could change it and bring more power to the front if they need to and the rears for racing, they did a hell of a lot but you don't really hear much about that. So Australian hats off to us for
innovating quite a lot on that 32 gdr and I feel that continued on through all the models of GTRs and skylines to a point that I feel, We saw to overtake Japan in tuning and reliability.
If you disagree, come fight me, but I really do believe we innovated quite a lot and the amount of horsepower and reliable horsepower. We got out of the GTRs compared
to many other places in the country and their countries, and yeah, just the parts. There's so many parts that we've
made and created. For gdrs.
So I feel like we lead the way in that one.
It's interesting because I believe we've got the fastest like quarter mile Skyline in the world here in Australia and we've got we've got like a lot of lots of scholar, reputable tuners and parts here that that people all over the world really come to us for. And it's actually a pat on the
back to us was you because like we've we made some like, obviously the 32 or cracking race car but I'm other companies did that like with other with other cars from throughout throughout the years and And you know, this calling just one of those. Yeah. - definitely waves.
There's tons. You know, if you're after a
place to get your Skyline modified or just worked on or anything like that. There is a huge list in any
state of Australia, he doesn't have to be Victoria, that is well known ones in New South Wales.
Definitely, and Queensland. All of them have very super fast
and GTRs and a great legacy to, from drag racing to Circuit racing. And all in between, So hats off
to us on that one, thirty two models.
You've got just a basic GTS. There's some that you couldn't
really import here interest raelia, they come from having just the auto Ford or 32 that had an R&B 20 non-turbo in it.
They just slow nothing. Special, in fact that our be 20
de the non-turbo one lasted through All of the models.
How did know that? Yeah, you could have originally
got an R34 with a 20D in it. Steel wheels and four-door Auto.
It's really, really. So yeah, that one going all the
way through. So if you want something like
that, you could have. But for Mary, there's some
reason you can't import them yell.
If you wanted to find one, you'll probably find one in New Zealand. Obviously, they got everything
you could think of because there's no rules or laws there, but here, You know, it was pretty much mainly just a turbo models and the GTRs the popped up soon.
As you delivered 32, GB or 32 GTRs.
Yep, mozzie delivered ones. We had 32 GTRs, I remember
reading, don't quote me on it. I haven't double-checked it, but
I got a feeling that our seats when we got them driver seats, in that we're actually wider for us fat Australians?
Yes. I'll have to double check that,
but I remember reading that I've heard that could, well, be a nice and had a habit of doing that with Japanese cars.
They did it with the early 80s Pulsar where the seats were designed here. They were, they were fat out
wider to local content. So if they were doing that in
the early 80s with a plain, Jane Pulsar highly likely they were doing it on the skylines. Yeah so that's pretty
interesting. Not many of those around.
The good thing is a lot of them remain.
Very Restock. So stock standard which is like
almost impossible to find you read anything people selling cars and like oh it's mainly stock but it has blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah except the motor suspension Wheels exhausted pretty much.
Yeah always but yeah I can't even tell you how much they'd be worth now. I haven't seen one pop up in so
long for sale. They're just all usually the
Japanese versions because it's so many of those but Ozzy delivered one's not, not that often.
I mean, even just our 32s in general, I don't really see pop up for sale that often anymore. Yeah, they came in the GST, real
drive to litre straight-six turbocharged and GTs for which is pretty much like a baby gdr had the gdr four-wheel-drive system in it, but instead of our B-26 had the, our be 20 in it, nothing wrong with Darby 20 motor in it.
It just loves to rev. If you want to get power, you
got to rev. It's tits off.
That's fine, handling. A decent amount of power.
Just your transmission. Probably won't like it.
If you still got the original, our B20 transmission.
You'd have to go to the RV 25 transmission as that one's more tougher can handle a lot more launches and things like that.
I'll be 20 engine block is fairly strong and that's Mainly because it's smaller, set of cylinder walls, actually thicker so I can handle more punishment. Yep, that was tested.
If you want to watch any of those videos on some of this stuff, I'm saying with the engines, you can see it on.
Whoo, Andrew Hawkins, what cities Motif that's right.
You have with that on YouTube. Yes he's done a lot of tests on
a lot of the engines and the thickness and things like that through them they can vary too. Special far, we 26 blocks some
can be a lot thinner, some of them bit thicker and here and there bit of a hit and miss. But yeah, because of the
cylinder walls in that bit thicker much better in our be 20. So that's why I can handle a lot
more higher revs and jumping off the rev limiter and things like that. Yeah, I think that's about it
for the 32s. Then we can move into the 33s
33s Was not really that popular because it was bigger.
It was heavier. People weren't really, like the
shape, I think. Because the shape kind of
changes, it become more like a bubbly a bubble shape lift is about us. 33s Pardon a lot of people whinge about the look of
those don't know that it's at least.
Yeah. They do, look, they kind of
grown on me to the point where I can, they just look so much better in person and depending what model and things like that.
So, 33 GTRs all around, I think, look great in person.
They look really big and bulky in photos.
I think the photos do them Justice until you see them.
In person, you go. They actually are pretty small.
Obviously the bigger than a 32 but they actually still pretty darn small. It was a 33 GTR Series 3 and
when I saw that it became into the my favorite sky like I saw it in person and the little red stitching in the updated steering wheel and all the other businesses, it was for me.
If I had to pick a gdr, I'd have an R 33 suit serious.
Three GTR. That is, that is out of all the
scholars, and even give me one of those.
They were good in purple. I thought our 33 GTR and careful
with this is my favorite as well.
Not perform. Yeah because there's one for
sale for 110,000 that used to be.
So the 33 GDI came out in 95. There are 33 model came out in
94. That kind of overlaps a little
bit with the very last 32 gdr that also came out in 1994.
I did own one of them just to toot my own horn.
I had a 32 gdr not bad car, pretty good gear ratios aren't the best third gear. Just goes on for absolute ever,
I've mentioned that before so I won't go into too much on that and that you're not to bad things to look or I guess is.
Look underneath. If someone's just recently,
sprayed any protection underneath try and have a look as probably just completely rusted.
That's pretty common for them to rust there.
Rust in the towers, the front Towers strut towers as well.
Look for us there. Look for rust underneath, near
the front suspension, to just look for rust.
Same for the 31's mentioned there.
The front guards, if you want to find really Addressed The Rusted, really bad on the front guards.
So if you're looking for one, just asked him.
Have you looked under the front guards because it can just eat away and have nothing under there at all.
So keep that in mind to with the rust, especially it comes down to where they came from, to in Japan, whatever area.
They might have come from, could have rusted a lot worse.
Look, they've all been thrashed. So, don't start thinking, I've
got to find one that hasn't been through.
Arash the it's impossible, right?
52. The r33 jail, no matter what
they've been thrashed, people have give them a hard life.
What you would just want to really look for is?
Where is it being serviced and do they?
At least have some kind of service history.
They're not going to have log books, obviously, but the at least have some receipts of when they've been serviced as it gets serviced, you know, where does it get service?
So they doing it themselves. What all are they using things
like that? Is what you really want to look
for. If it's been maintained and
things like that properly and service, doesn't matter how much has been thrashed. It'll be fine.
I remember back in the day, looking at 34 GTRs when they were cheaper, someone have one, it was completely stock but for some reason it had a HKS triple plate clutch in it.
So it's like okay, so you've removed all the performance parts but left Clutch in it because it's too hard work like, yeah. So yeah, that's odd because I
don't see why you get a stock one and put such a brutal clutch in it to begin with. So keep an eye on that.
Don't worry about. Ches look, they've all been
wound back. They will easy to wind back. 32
33 es 34s were still fairly easy to wind back to all.
They probably even had changed dashes and things like that.
Don't jump in the car and go off.
It's got a brand new fresh look and stare.
We'll probably hasn't done many days, they've just replaced the steering wheel. I've looked at some myself and
go well you know those really really clean.
I'm had a look in it. Yeah, well I did just buy new
steering wheel when you start looking a little more deeper under the engine bay and things like that, that's when you could go on and really see it that age, I'm going from there.
So keep those in mind on that one are 33s something a bit different and this is maybe a clue wenk.
Wink. That's they still had a GTs for
but they weren't turbocharged anymore.
No matter what. Their own Ontario by they did
the same 34 as well. You could get one but non-turbo.
So the only turbo GDs for ones that you can get was in the 30 to the 33 had quite a few different models moved up.
So I think the Type M was probably the most popular that's where the whole front bumper was changed and it looked a hell of a lot better than when they first came out.
They were pretty ugly. Ugly front bumper the roof.
Spoiler yuck to go with it too. But they fixed all that up.
Now, moving to the R34. So, move into that one, R34 had
a few different models, as well, as I said, had a GDs for and I had a GTV which had turbo breaks everything turbo accepts didn't have a turbo. That was the only difference in
that. Yeah.
So it came with everything the bigger brakes and all that kind of stuff but just and in a motor in it the 34 came up with the best motor in it. The rb25de Neo Um that one came
out with pretty much more torque and power than the our B-26 originally had. So it had more power and
everything like that. Great motor if you want to do
any kind of handled power before actually opening it up and putting in forged pistons and things like that handles quite a lot of power. Very very, very good motor.
You can get hands on one, they're the best thing for gdr came out in 1999, the R34. Yours came out in 1998.
They came in off by into 4 GD. I came in heaps of different
variants from v-spec, stuffy sec, to S, to V spec tuners, 2m specs. The m-spec was just had leather
seats and stuff. It more fancier then.
Yeah, just all the no one's from just them winning races and just a few different nerve bits and pieces, made it sound better.
I mean, nerve water pumps and stuff.
But I wouldn't bother waste my money on the water pumps.
When you can buy like an 80 water pump that will last and be much, much stronger and better, because that's something that faults in them. Affair bit, is the water pump
dying and breaking and falling apart and then destroying everything else in your engine, other problems with them.
And this is all our b-26s is the oil starvation.
So, the oil can't get back down into the Bottom end quick enough as you just get heaps, all up in the head so you can buy drain plugs and things like that. So it gets back down again.
And that's when you start doing all your bottom end bearings, things like that. So that was a pretty big issue.
34 gdr is also another one. That toot my own horn again, is
that I owned as well. I had one in Midnight Purple.
To 300 of them were made in Midnight.
Purple to there's only 300 Mine was even less because most of them came in v-spec and mine was not a v spec.
So v-spec had different LSD and it had like a rear diffuser and things like that on it, so a couple different things.
But overall all interior was exactly.
The same has the little multi-function display screen on there which had problems crystallizing and you can get replacement screens, I wouldn't even bother looking at a replacement. MFD unit, because you're looking
at thousands upon thousands, I wouldn't even bother looking at a 34 Duty out, unless you are super duper Rich, find one at all under two hundred thousand dollars at all insane.
So, they're just ridiculous money.
Now, do I think they're worth it?
No. I love it, love the car,
fantastic car. If I could get one again on my
certainly would but I could not fathom that kind of money at all for 34.4 its Age and what it comes with no way different gear
box came with a 6-speed getrag. In their great gearbox, it was
pretty solid, came in super as well.
And the mark for Supra can be a little bit clunky and Little bit noisy. Mom was a little bit
temperamental and when it was cold, it wasn't a fan of going back into first so that we had times where actually ended up in third instead and that's how I stalled it once because it wasn't actually in first. So it might take you a couple
goes to get it to pop into first.
But once it warms up, it's all good.
I reckon that was the best feeling clutch and everything to it was just so easy to drive that car compared to 232 gdr clutch, wasn't the best at caught really high.
So I wasn't a fan of that. I had a new clutch, so it wasn't
the clutch wearing out, just where it caught, but the 34 GTR was like, nice and low and so easy to manage.
It's a big fan of that one to look out for, in 34 ziz.
So, on the boot, you have the brake light, there's a rear.
Brake light, they're prone to rust.
I'm there. So just check around there.
You might get some bubbling action happening around there.
So check for rust on that other than that they're pretty solid car interior. Look interior is rubbish when it
gets hot and you keep your hands off the center consoles and things like that, because if you press it, it will leave you fingerprint on it. He's okay istick.
Yes. Yeah, into the paint, on the
plastic that they looked at they use their yeah, it goes all soft so you can poke it, you could sit there and just pick it all off. If you wanted to go, you guys
are soft. So horrible.
Horrible, plastic interior seats, fantastic in all the gdrs. Even adjust the GT, I thought
the seats were really nice and comfortable in those 34 or Judy our seats were really, really nice.
Jeez, if you wanted a pair of those seats, then expect like 3 Grand or more. If you wanted those seats,
Stupid Money, stupid money now but yeah, crazy, but they are SuperDuper comfortable seats. Okay.
I'll wrap that up, little special bits and pieces.
I didn't get to share. I save for this is some
brochures. Okay, original brochures that's
sick. So I got reasonable one here of
32 gdr and I just thought I'd show a couple bits and pieces in here. I'll explain it to you obviously
for the listeners because you can't see.
So 32 gdr it's a lot of pictures a lot of pictures from all different different views, different sides of the car.
It goes through a little bit of detail on here and there with its handling and it's four-wheel drive system on how it works.
Let's go. Like, it was like a diagram
before I shot. Is how it works?
Yeah. Hopes a little bit more about
the attesa system as well. Yes, but I mean they're just
explaining how it works. What it does.
So there's not too much in this one compared to the other ones that I've got sitting up here, but obviously it's got a show.
The whole engine and things like that.
It's so cool. That's not on there.
There. And I also got one for the 34
gtt because I thought, you know what?
I owned a gtt. Got it here?
Yeah, yours is black too, wasn't it?
Yeah, it was black. Yeah, yeah.
Same everything. And I was interested to see how
they advertise it and things like that.
So you got as usual, the whole inside of it or pulled away.
The skin of the car, you got the engine there and do that.
But your brochures anymore do they do?
They do that. They have to cut away so you
could see the engineering. Now no one gives you and it's so
good. It goes through like all the
breaks and because they finally started you know, that headlights as Xenon headlights in, mmm.
The airbags that's cool, I've got a little bit of safety low emission Vehicles. So they had to bring in all
those, that's why it's rb25de Neo they brought in that for the whole lower emissions. They would pass emissions
anymore but also has the optional parts that you could buy. I love those.
Yeah. Do we all of the pieces that you
could option at with, so you get like a nice Mo Alice deed.
If you could get the oil coolers, you get a thicker side, mount intercooler, sway bars suspension.
Exhaust on this side, you can change the body kit.
It's clear. You get a different front,
bumper Side skirts and the most ugliest rear spoiler ever walk away spoiler. If you get that that's in that
catalog but also the equipment and all the bits and pieces, you get to that. Will huge that I realized on
aftermarket stereo system with the injury.
Yeah, so I've got it in. I think the 34 GTI ones of
different brands Barrios and things like that.
Just aftermarket ones that schools which I'm about to show you right now is the next time actually, I've to so I'll just show you one because the 234 gdr ones, one of them is a special limited edition. Black cover one, there's more
pages in that. And then the original blue one,
now these ones here are hardcover, so the hardcover ones, it's even got an original piece here.
With all their prices of the gdrs back in the day.
Straight from Japan is in there. So, that's pretty cool.
So, flicking through this one. So this one has 59 pages in it.
This big sweet. It's like a book.
Yeah, yeah, it's obviously like everything else has got all your images and pictures and things like that.
So I'll quickly scoot through that gives you the whole picture there, the skin of it underneath, that's great.
These are in the front of you which they mentioned everything with the aerodynamics in the next page.
Everything's all mentioned in that worked and things like that which is pretty cool that go with the rear spoiler, how that works, because the rear spoiler in it with adjustable.
So the 33 and 34, Judy, I had adjustable rear, spoilers, 32, gdr didn't knock. Go through the motor and
everything like that. The turbos use it goes through
the whole gear ratios for the 6-speed first start up there, it's got moving and how that went around there goes through the whole different everything, how that works.
So there's heaps of that the whole front suspension, how that works the tires. The new the wheels that it came
with this. Got the in Interior.
It's got the ergonomics and out of the seat, the facts, eat those to be one of the best brushes I've ever seen.
Like it covers everything, it's covers comprehensive covers even just your dash cluster, the gauge cluster, all the functions that their MFD unit had that's everything function.
You could do in all the different gauge combinations, you could set up on it. Everything a whole page
dedicated to that things. You could have safety and all
the airbags as well. They came with, I think side
airbags might have been an option because only think mine had for. They could have laughs double
check that but obviously, it had passenger and driver's side air bags and things like that all the different ones.
So, the gdr and the v-spec at the time, the different models there. Body color combinations, yellow
is yellow, blue or red, Britain's red, silver yellows whites. The Bayside flu was very, very
popular. Even more detail, on the whole
specs and everything like that. And then this is one of the
craziest Bridges I've ever seen. That's insane.
Dress-up GTR extras. You can actually get and put
onto it. So you could get you a little
fog lights, that sit on the front vent, you could get different badging for the gdr. So you can remember how they're
like, prone. You could get it gold instead.
No way you get it in Gold. So you get the Newson logo as
well just in Gold tons. Whole sticker kit, you know, I'm
not sure what that one is. I think it's your heated side
mirrors, obviously your normal map to show you the audio stuff.
Now actually have a look at the huge selection.
Bloody hell all units and stuff that you get, if you want a factory head unit they would have been so many there is heaps and they're all like in main Brands as Clarion in here only in Japan. My name is Ken Wood.
There's all came with ones in here that you can get tons.
You get like the it opens up to something huge like this.
And even more parts you can get for, like Brie pedestal, you get brake, pads exhausts, actual Brembo, discs, and Brembo pads.
You could get, which I didn't know you could get the integral of sprays to spray water on front-mount.
Intercooler, that was actually an option.
Cool, it down it down. There was an option to get the
oil. Cooler kit put in there too.
Yeah, exhaust. If you wanted audio and
navigation, they had that as a whole kit to understand to choose from there. There's just wanted to share
that at the end of stuff, thought that is freaking cool.
That is so durable. I just so many things.
I didn't think that you could actually get on all these GTRs and just all these awesome options.
So I was in heaven when that arrived I was like, oh my goodness this is so cool. Very comprehensive Scotty.
So what I'd like to do our it can when we catch up again, I'll bring some of these elongated close flick through and have a cool. Look at it, it's easier to read
you. Just get Google translate on
your phone and just hold it over there with the camera mode.
You can do it. Translates it straight away into
English in the same spots are in there.
So, you can sit there and just just read it.
And then it'll be from 2001 right there.
Those for those brochures. That'll be period.
Yes I'm a yummy in the 34g down that came out in 99.
So you know 99 2000 2001 finished in 2010 was like that's really cool. Yeah it's awesome.
Yeah. Guy was selling a whole bunch of
them to fund his next project and he had stacks of these brochures in all pretty good condition like even the 1232 gdr they're all like Great condition for something.
So, all dealership posters or any of that sort of stuff?
Still, I'd love to get my hands on that kind of stuff.
Yeah. And they're driven magazine
advertisements and that sort of thing that would be cool.
So cool. Yeah.
So I reckon car dealers need to bring back these brochures.
Well, they're all online. Yes, I don't like that.
You want you want those booklets and things?
It's so cool. Absolutely, it's much more
special. Isn't it pretty?
It is. Yeah.
Big-time much more special. It you've got a quiz though.
Don't you Scotty? I do have the quiz ready to
roll. Let's do it.
All right here we go. Question 1.
What is known as most? You yell at your name?
Yeah, I'll say it again. Here we go.
What is Nismo shortfall? Matthew?
Matthew Missin Motorsports? Correct.
Bonus question, what? Where they founded take a guess.
Whoever's closest, we'll get the point Matthew, 87.
Nope, and 89. No.
Tom 85 actually know. Yeah, 8585.
So you're the winner, cause you're only one year off.
It was 84. Yeah, you get that point.
All right. This one should be easy because
I even mentioned it. What year did the 34 gdr come
out? Matthew Matthew 98 bump.
Ow. No.
Yep. Come on.
Yes, KT 9 points told me bonus question, what you did?
It finish, production, Matthew, Matthew got in there.
One second, aftermath, okay, fine.
Our three bubble It. Go For It.
Whoo. Yes. 0 to 1 Point.
Who work that's gonna say 02 as well.
Hey ladies, all right, question 3, this is a true or false.
The rb25det Neo made the same power as the our B-26 Matthew.
I'm pretty sure that's true. It is true.
Yes, came with the 206 kilowatts.
True. All right I mentioned this and I
did a wink-wink on this one true or false.
Listen made a turbo variant GTs for version in every model and else. Correct.
Bernice questions Barnes question on that, which model or models didn't have it. And what motor did they have
instead? Hey, so Matthew got in.
So the ones that didn't have it this way?
You're asking someone to dinner. Yes.
III and 34. Yeah.
And they had and just a standard are be 25.
Correct. This.
All right now which I've already up by their school junk into Tom to myself on three Anyone's game anyone's game.
Okay, this one's pretty tricky because I actually didn't mention this one in my talk here.
So, let's find out what did Nissen do to lower the power to the gentlemen's agreement, in the GTRs Matthew?
Matthew, they put a restrictor in one of the Boost lines or something like a bustier. Oh, nice.
Got it. Yep.
It's like a little restrictive thing I put in the line.
So lower the Boost and to make it easy for us, they actually made a color on it. It.
So we knew where it was so we could remove it and bring it up to the power that they wanted. That's a cool.
Yeah so it was easy for people to find it for question 6, which model Skyline or GTR received a six-speed transmission?
Dumb yes 34 Judy I got the 6-speed.
No other one did All right, switch GT-R.
Came with the color midnight, purple Matthew The first midnight purple to appear was 33 correct.
It was bonus question on that one is how many variants of midnight purple did they make for the GTRs Matthew?
Matthew just got in I think needed three.
Yes they did. Yeah so you're not purple two
and three came in the 34 years. Okay.
Question 8 the 33 gdr never reached the height of its predecessor. It was bigger and heavier.
I made the same power, was it quicker around the Nurburgring?
Yes, or no Matthew. It was it was actually quicker.
It was a quick car. It was I don't aerodynamically
better and actually was just a bit of car in general.
Yeah. Was it was about 21, seconds
faster. Quite a bit of crust.
Yeah. Massive difference even though
it was bigger and heavier and everything.
So if you know what's a boat as everybody says yeah, it's very funny joke. Always say, question 9, what was
different with the intercoolers between the gdr and the Turbo GT versions? Matthew the turbo due to the
side mount intercooler and the GI said from else.
Yeah, correct. Yep.
So g d's just had a smaller little side mount ones that heat soaked pretty badly because of your aunt's GD.
Is had a good-sized front mount in them.
Final question. Matt might know this one.
What was the secret behind mines?
34, gdr being so quick and responsive because I do that was like, one of the quickest Duty. I was like, that are tuning
I just want to have a guess, how do you think they might have made it rev really fast and go through the gears and super-quick. He's waiting remapping.
Nope. Good guess though.
I was thinking more mechanical. Lightweight Pistons.
No. So what I did was actually just
change the whole deaf. Oh, really?
Okay. Yeah.
They didn't tell anyone like about it was like their secret but it's pretty obvious and the pretty much the cats out of the bag. Yeah, it was awesome.
Might have been like a diff from a 33, like the 33 GDs for or something, because of the different shows were a lot different that they put in there and changed it.
And yeah, it just made it way more.
Even revved out which is good, but if you're cruising along on the freeway, you'll be cruising at a very high RPM would be the downside on that ball, right? That was so score.
Check Ed onto Thomas on three myself on eight.
Whoa, Matthew Bing bits and pieces about the years.
Unfortunately, no one even knows you used.
Very hard. School was really nice.
Very informative. Mr. Johnston very impressive.
Yeah, you really went to town on 31 32 33, 34 so.
So thanks. Thanks for taking the reins and
for the quiz, I do. And I don't enjoy and Thomas
have to go. So we can we, can we?
Thank you, Scotty. Thank you.
Matthew a problem. Thanks for having me on.
Thank you guys. I'll see you.
Because all men of mine, had a genius for 33.
And another one of my had a genius for 32 which was a turbo one, I'll be 20 Turbo and he's like, guys, like it's got the same thing on the same gearbox as the GTR and stuff so so it's like it's like theoretically if I put a 26 in it's like a virtually in GTR. Mechanically laughs.
That's all you had to do. Yeah pretty much and that's why
they got rid of that. Yeah.
People like you have a lot cheaper like obviously you know it doesn't have the more pumped out gods and gods like that.
You know, it was a lot cheaper cheaper.
Items are lighter car to didn't have all the extra extra hard.
So that was really cool. I was really, really let it let
it learn a bit about that. Like I didn't realize that
they're there for do one was virtually LTI and stuff like you back in the 31. Yeah.
Yeah. Pretty much.
Love the whole front is yeah. Fairly identical to what we got
here with the ti, I wanted the ti Grill into mine.
But you've got to actually change the Bonnet to it's a different planet so you just nice to hear that.
Yes. - Series 3. Yep.
Really good work. That's funny.
Thanks, thanks for taking that time.
I don't know much appreciate that.
That's fine, I enjoyed it. There's plenty of information
that obviously I missed but you know, if there's any listeners out there that want anything or got any questions, shoot them through. If there's anything I made a
mistake about shoot it through, let me know, feedback is key.
I like to see. I absolutely love it.
That's a podcast. I think so too.
