There was just so much going on at Amelia.
I think summing it up, it was a phenomenal weekend.
Weather plays such a big part.
Oh, yeah.
But I think everyone was running on the eight cylinders
and it was a very memorable weekend.
And just record setting left and right for our event, other events,
prices on some cars.
I mean, we're going to bounce around a little bit.
But yeah, how did everything feel for you, Damon?
Things felt pretty good.
I'm actually right in the middle of an edit for the Works Reunion Amelia Island video,
which should be out by the time you watch this.
And as somebody who sees the event through the lens,
it's looking pretty good.
I feel like sometimes I don't actually experience the event,
but I get to revisit it when I'm on the editing table.
So yeah, it was a lot of fun.
Probably my favorite car, I have to say, is that Turbo RS Spider.
I think they called it that single seater.
That was so cool.
I want to autocross it.
Well, shout out to all the volunteers, especially Tom Provasse,
who leads the volunteers to make Works Reunion Amelia Island happen.
Shout out to Melanie and Kristen,
who really took the lead from the PCA National Office side,
all the little details.
And we stepped it up this year.
I don't know if you noticed, but one of the challenging things we had at
Works Reunion Amelia Island in the past was audio.
And it might not seem like a big deal to just attendees,
but it's, man, you know, I'm pretty sensitive to good audio,
especially when it comes to this podcast and anything that we do on video.
But on site, to have good audio and video, it's quite expensive.
And thankfully, our executive council allowed us to invest in upgrading the AV.
And for the first time ever, I didn't get any complaints from audio.
Like, could you guys tell from being out on the fairways?
It was clear.
And I didn't stand in places I usually stand to see how far away it was heard from.
But it was definitely clear.
I remember being somewhere and listening to Michael Tan talk about the Club Coop.
And it was super clear.
And I think it was far enough from the stage where I thought it was kind of entertaining
listening to the Club Coop without having to be in front of it.
Exactly.
Exactly.
So how was it for you, Paul?
Well, as we were driving into parking, I heard your voice and I'm thinking,
Jesus, we haven't even gotten here yet and we've got to listen to that.
That's the whole reason for us to go to the home.
That's why Lohan wasn't there.
Actually, I did notice when we were away from the stage over on the right-hand side as you're
driving in.
On the corral side?
Yeah, you could hear the audio from there as well.
And I thought to myself, I don't remember that being the case last year or the year before.
So yeah, you could be walking around but still hear what was being discussed on stage.
It was kind of a nice touch.
And it also keeps people from missing out.
They feel that sometimes in the past where we would make announcements and people like,
I heard kind of something or was something and was it, did I win?
Or where is this particular car?
But they really bumped up the power and this is where people think power is for loudness,
powers for clarity.
And for distance too.
And for distance, yeah.
So I was very happy with that.
You want to go straight into when we landed on Wednesday?
Because we get there early.
Boggs was there.
Damon, Manny, myself.
We landed on Wednesday and we don't necessarily jump on to prepping for works reunion
right when we land.
We actually go to the auctions.
Yeah, because that's Thursday is all they prep for works reunion.
And luckily, like you mentioned, Melanie had Kristen to help her.
And that makes a big difference, you know, going back to what you said about the volunteers
and the help.
And as our event gets bigger, just like any business, you can't be using the same level
of management when it was a certain amount of spectator event.
Now that we've grown bigger, obviously need more help.
And we definitely got that from the labor that they hired to help us unload and unpack things
to having Melanie and Kristen together as they divided and conquered the field.
And boy, not only a Tom and Sandy for Rossi, but their team that's been there since the beginning.
Chris Hoyt and Dora and Bob.
Dora and Bob.
Dora smiles constantly.
Even though she's getting bit by mosquitoes, she's smiling the whole time.
It was a lot of people that the public doesn't see when they come on Friday who make the event
possible.
And I think they don't realize that volunteers are doing so much of the heavy lifting.
You go to a for profit event.
Typically, it's, you know, some crew that they've hired and not, you know, they can probably cover
and do what they need to do.
But the people that we have that run these and are in charge of certain areas is they're
doing it purely out of passion.
And I think that's a big, big difference.
The only faux pie I saw in planning was we've got these beautiful LED lights.
They even built a few of them.
We put them together.
I mean, this thing looked like it would land a plane if you needed to.
And we're all ready because, you know, we get there before the sun rises and our members
get there before the sun rises with the cars.
So we knew all this and usually we're just using our Apple phone flashlights.
And this time we had the perfect lights.
Except we didn't plan to have the people who run the generator come turn it on.
And so it was turned on 10 minutes before sunrise.
So next year, it was a notation that we put next year.
We'll turn the lights on or generate on a little bit sooner.
But other than that, it was, to me, from what I saw, perfectly executed event from a planning
site. A lot of smiling faces.
And this was even with an increase in spectators, an increase in the judged field,
max capacity for the corral.
So again, round of applause for everyone involved.
We'll get into more of it a little bit later, but let's talk auctions.
Yeah, so there's two auctions on the island now.
Good and Christie and Broad Arrow.
And both of them were more than welcoming to have us come in early and do some videos
on some of the cars they were going to be featured.
And I think both of them had a decent selection of Porsches.
But I would say it wasn't a lot.
I feel like it was, I don't know, it wasn't overwhelmed.
You had money left over that you wanted to spend.
No, you know how sometimes you go to an auction, you're just like left and right,
like, oh my gosh, there's this.
There's just like, I didn't feel like I was overwhelmed.
Maybe because I was just looking at Porsches for the video.
Like I didn't feel like I was overwhelmed with the amount of Porsches available.
The only lineup that I think where I was like, oh my gosh, there's kind of too many of these
was the 10356's that were lined up over at the Gooding Christie's.
I felt like if you want to get good money for your car,
like why would you bring 10 kind of similar cars?
Like how do you, like supply and demand, right?
Like I would parse.
So they were, they were auction off collections, I think.
Right.
So, but I don't know how it worked out for them.
Maybe you do.
So where are we going to go first?
So we went first to Gooding.
That was, I think the highlight there was the 960 Turbo S everyone was speaking about.
Did you get to see that Paul?
Yeah, we did.
Estimated to be 900 to like 1.1.
I was going to be, everyone, the big talk was speaking,
they were speaking that there would be over a million.
Now, I haven't looked.
Did you see that?
I haven't looked.
I think it went for like 700.
If I remember.
Oh, wow.
Let's, let's take a look here.
I mean, the thought of a 968 Turbo, Turbo S or any nine, any,
any front engine transactional car going for 911.
Yeah, for a million dollars.
I mean, that's a big statement to make.
And the car was a time capsule car.
I'll give it that.
And from the finishing of the sort of the one off pieces for that car,
I guess if you had to have the ultimate version of it and yeah,
I don't know.
Did it hit that?
So let's talk about the color while he's pulling up the,
how much it actually went for Zermatt.
I believe it was Zermatt silver metallic silver metallic.
Don't hate me, but I feel that's a sedan color.
And Paul gets me.

What is this like?
Wait, wait, wait.
It's like, what, what isn't a sedan color?
Well, I feel, I feel like I feel like gold, goldish,
tint, metallic colors tend to be a sedan color.
I'm not saying it's a bad color.
I'm just saying.

Are we sure the nine, six, eight sold?
No, we aren't.
I'm trying to figure out.

So I'm looking at a Gooding and Christie's site.
If it bid to 700, it definitely didn't sell.

There's a, there's nothing on the result section of their site.
So that nine, six, eight might not have sold.
Yeah.
When did it go off Friday or Thursday?
I, you know, we were there Thursday and we were there for the entire time for the auction.
And one of the things that I saw, if you wanted to compare the two auctions,
I think Gooding, their range high and low, I think they were a little bit on the high side
because whatever sold was either less than the low or right around the low.
Yeah.
Whereas at Broad Arrow, they seem to be more, more of them seem to be in the range.
I don't think it sold.
It's not on their, it's, they listed all their sold cars and it's not on there.
So it didn't show how much it bid up to either.
If it went off on Thursday, I had the book and I was writing what they were going for,
whether they sold or not.
I'd have to, I could check and bring it.
Well, it's a celebration of the front axle, front engine transaxle car.
So I was, I was hoping that it would do well, but I'm sure we'll find out later.
To your comment, I thought there was a decent number of Porsches at both.
There were a lot of Alphas.
A lot of Alphas.
Alphas at both.
Okay.

A lot more than I would have expected.
Yeah.
And of course, Gary said there wasn't a single Audi that went on.
On either one of the auctions.
I'm not exactly sure why it was fixated on Audi's.
I can't remember last time I saw an Audi at a,
maybe, maybe like an RS2 or something.
Yeah, an R8 or TT or something, you know, or, you know, a Quattro coupe.
Do we feel like we didn't see as many supercars?
Like they're, I thought it was a good mix at both, you know,
as opposed to just being a whole bunch of supercars that are.
So some prices for the one that it did sell.
That 85 turbo look, 911 turbo look.
Oh yeah, we covered that one.
The red one went for 137.
Nice.
That's reasonable.
The 67, like Tangerine, 911S went for 212.
Would you say that's strong money or?
I think that's pretty strong, huh?
I mean, the 67S is a desirable car because it's the first year of the S.
And this one seemed to be in particularly good condition.
The GT-S that we're featuring in our video.
Oh yeah.
That went for 357,000.
Oh, here's the deal of the century.
The 62, 56-speed Notchback coupe.
The yellow one.
81,000.
Wow.
Yeah, that's not bad.
If you want something unique that people may not give you a smiley face,
but they're definitely getting attention as to what it is.
So that, if I'm not mistaken, that car was originally a cab,
and then they finish it off to make it a coupe?
I don't know if it was originally a cab.
It's definitely a, you've got to love them or hate them, I think.
It's got, doesn't have that flowing line of a 356.
Yeah, but it was a very pretty example.
Yeah, definitely if you're going to carry people in the backseat, it gives them more room.
Interesting.
I thought 356 prices seemed to be a little soft.
Yeah.
They had a 60, 356B super 90 coupe went for 109.
And you want to know the, so this is also a feature in our video where it's the barn finds.
Anyone there know what I'm talking about?

Okay, let me, let me try to guess.
There was these cars that looked like they were being transported in the bottom of the Titanic.
And they rescued them from there.
You had to have an eye where you saw a lot of potential.
So the coupe, the coupe I felt like.
All right, so there was two portions there.
There was a 51, 256 coupe that was probably the best of the two.
There was also a 55 speedster and the coupe had possibilities.
You could see some.
And that car ran.
So that drove up.
That car ran.
I think the patina is gorgeous.
It's a pre-A.
I love it.
The speedster, I feel like you were just buying the Vintag because that car was Swiss cheese.
The coupe went for 218,400.

I think they put the speedster there for somebody to say,

So you had to buy both of them to get one?
I mean, I guess if you wanted numbers matching,
that's what I heard.

But what did that crazy Ferrari next to it that was?
He's going to rethink his guest choices.

because it only went for half the half the estimate.
And it went for about half a what it should have.

there was the 996 roof.

That car was clean.

The golf blue the golf blue 930 that we featured in the video
went for 229,000.

And this is the golf blue the famous that was all over social media
that no one thought would reach the estimate of 7 million.
That was a strong number going to have a very strong number for I mean there was a little
car but a lot of career GTs are had a beautiful escot brown interior.
But that was going to be a huge Porsche texture going to pay on that color.
And that got to 6 million 6.7.
So is that are they happy with that or are they not.
I cannot imagine it or not.

They were hoping for 7 and only got 6.
I think that was without without commissions.
Wow that is off the charts as Damon is showing compared to the other career GT comps.

Do you think the person that bought that car or respect that car back in the day said
I want to do it this color and thinking that one day it would be like that or they just got it
because they like golf blue.
I think it's the latter.
They just liked it.
Yeah I don't think anybody who bought that car what were they knew 152 200 new
thought it would be worth 30 times that.
How much was that car new.
What was it a couple 300 new.
It was I want to say less than 500,000 bucks.

Maybe three four.

I mean who would have thought it'd be worth 20 times that.

I remember I remember in St. Charles a member brought the CGT and it was probably 400,000.

And then at that time he was at the St. Charles parade and letting kids climb all over a super
nice guy.

I mean and they came out they couldn't sell them all either.

So what other cars did we see at the oh you know that so they did have a front engine
transaxle I'm sorry front engine transaxle lineup probably like four or five that we covered.
And they had the club sport.
They had a race car.
They had the was it like a research or prototype that 944 that looked like a like a rally car.
924 turbo.
924 turbo.
Yeah.
That was kind of neat but I mean talk about that car being very you know specific in terms
of what you needed.
It had like a rally grille and but it was actually a factory R&D car.
Look cool but man you got to kind of really want that and want that look.
There was a nice g-body speedster that went for like two.
Oh the white one.
Yeah 222.
The other news other than the Courage ET was the white 949 sports.
Oh yeah how did that do.
That also set a record of 5.5 million.
Yeah 5.5 million and what was unique about that car again.
That was a sport model.
It was a sport model.
It wasn't a comfort right.
It wasn't a very limited production.
Not many in white you know usually that car is silver.
The 918 Spider went for 2.975 so that's a world record.
The guy in front of us bought that.
One bid.

He was one bid and then you talk about a guy who was elated then sort of buyer's remorse.
He said then he was asking did I pay too much for it.
He says then he goes I hope I can flip it and no way.
Yeah so he bought it thinking he'd be able to flip it.
I think he was slightly under the influence you know.

Drinking a bit but.
The 2001 Roof RGT went for 335 also world record for that model.
Is that that the orange one.
The orange metallic one.
The RGT.
They're not showing colors.
Is it the one from Gooding Christie's or Broderia?

Yeah I think it was like the orange one.
Interesting enough some of the I mean not I'm trying to be respectful here but some of the cars
that I saw weren't prepped as much as I thought it would be getting ready for the show.
Some of these cars were I would say driver quality but some of the cars were not as
polished and prepped.
I was surprised like I saw one.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
Well I mean.
Damon relates.
I mean if I guess if Damon's buying it maybe it's not a big deal but if you're going to go
and bid on a car and it's again it's different for people that are bidding on cars to flip them
and add them to their inventory but you know I think if I were to ever bid at an auction
it's like I'm bidding for my dream car right so you want your dream car to be in dream status
like you know the shiniest of shine the best of paint the leather supple and no
you know cracks in the leather but some of these cars like I would have gone through it
like they could they could have me come through and just do some little stuff to it to make the
car look a little bit nicer.
The cars on the lawn and in a tent.
Correct that's what I'm talking about.
I think most of those were pretty well prepared.
They were mostly pretty good mostly pretty good.
You're just a PCA concourse for every shiny every caliper is painted to the correct color.
Let me let me point out and again I'm not trying to be disrespectful but there was a black
no offense but but there's a there's a there's a black C4S at the good thing with the faded
red calipers that I was talking about.

Yeah so there's one thing I noticed I was watching the four GTs.
The first gen and the second gen the gap is getting less and less between the two.
I think a second gen went for seven 700.
Um they had a Gulf oil one there.
I don't know what the miles were I think that went for like six.
There was one last year at Mecom that sold for 900.
And with the 10 premiums a million dollars basically.
Wow so when I go to these events I'm constantly learning.
I think a lot of people locally and maybe in our family and friend circle think that
we're kind of all knowing with cars but obviously we aren't.
So I learned of a phrase and I'm going to shout out to Tom Gorsuch and uh Richard Strahota.
Have you ever heard of cheers and flares?
Yeah that's what they call like the uh Dino 246 GTS.

I had no idea what that was and it's and it's not have you heard of it Paul?
So this particular model when it came to the United States um I guess the regulations
required it to have something to cover the wheels so that the where the body ended and
where the the the tires like stood out it needed some sort of flares.
And simply to fall into the regulation it looks like sheet metal literally just straight up sheet
metal over the wheels and tires and call it a day.
And then it had the fancy seats so they call it chairs and flares I had no idea.
Well it's something new 246 GTS so a Dino.
I believe that's what they're really.
Yeah it's not it's not attractive but because it was a rare thing I guess that brings value to the car.
Only way I learned this was from watching Wayne Carini's show.

volume that all the cars that are being made.

I don't I think regular GT4s are going to be more rare than GT4 RS's.
Yeah I don't I don't think I see.
Non-Visoc cars are going to be more rare because somebody says it's rare.
It all depends how many people want them and how many is available.
I mean it is flying to me the 73 RS they made what we considered a lot over 1500.
Yep it's still on every collector's list of must have a type of car so they retain their value
because even though there's a lot of 1500 available people still want it versus the
black edition Porsche design 911 Turbo S Cabriolet series or something built maybe five of them
but I don't see it on the list of any ones must have on their collection.
Yeah so I think I think a Cayman R is going to be one of those at some point if not already.
Hopefully which Paul would be very happy about I'm sure.
I think the 981 GT4 is going to be like the 996 the first gen
pre-facelift 996 or that'll be the one I think where people want it over the 718.
2011 spider.
Yes 2011 spider I'm a coup person but I meant to include that with the Cayman R as well
probably more so than the Cayman R. I think those are sort of my three.
I think any of the GT4s with manual will become desirable.
It'll be interesting in 20 years to see how they rank with the RS being that the RS is only a PDK
but in 20 years are the buyers going to say I'm fine with automatic you know I don't mind PDK
is it going to be the same generation of buyer who desires a manual so.
I think personally the GT4 RS will because there's enough other stuff in that car that sets it off
like that the intakes you know on the sides and will Porsche ever do that again.
Well we don't know at this point unless whatever internal combustion 718 they keep on
has that engine potentially and has those scoops but I don't think PDK and the GT4
RS is going to do anything so Mark.
They've gotten a little soft.
Yeah five ten years from now though.
Yeah who knows.
All right well we want to make sure before Paul departs to talk about the events
but overall the I believe for both auctions you know some some records were set and congratulations
to them and thank you to both of them for allowing us to come through early.
There are rumors that Gooding may not come back and I hope they were just rumors and that's true
because I think having more auctions on that island on that I'm not going to say it's a full
week of events but it just it makes people want to come down if there's more than just
haggardly driven events that there's other events going on.
That's the only way I think that can grow and sustain the event itself.
You want to hear the other rumor I heard.
I heard that Meekum is looking to come into the weekend.
That would be pretty cool.
Pretty awesome because they can bring some cars where you and I could be on.
Well it also brings a different demographic.
Correct.
Right as far as buyers and sellers.
The other thing that was good was Gooding was Thursday Friday and Bird Arrow was Friday Saturday
so they didn't they weren't both on the same day so you could go to in essence three days
worth of auctions which is what we did do.
Yeah yeah I think it enhances the whole experience for people that are coming down
and the more selection the more choice you have it's just going to be a win for everyone.
Well a quick summary on Work's Reunion that we you know we were ecstatic with the crowd.
Of course the weather was fantastic.
Broke record in terms of attendance.
Something that came about you you've seen this because there's been lots of coverage on social
media and as much as we plan things sometimes the things that we don't plan is probably the most
special things that happens during the event and in this case it started out with a phone call.
Like Damian pointed out actually with the him two weeks prior I think or a week prior
was it Damian you got the call.
Yeah it was from Zach Todd who works for Canapa and you know we we worked on a project together
a while back and he was the contact that he knew so he hit me up and I'm like you know
Manny is probably the person to talk to you about that.
So he actually called but we were recording a podcast so I couldn't take it and then I
left a message I forgot I'll call back didn't hear anything but then when we landed Jacksonville
get off the plane the phone rings and I see Bruce Canapa's number and I answer it and he says
hey we have finished a 959 Sport Canava model and we like to surprise the customer with it
at work because he's going to be there and he has no idea this car is done and I was immediately
like yeah check with Vue and he said oh yeah we could definitely do it so he showed up just
happened to be that I was talking to the people at the front entrance when he showed up so I walked
him up to the stage and of course this was pre-planned when he was gay when he got there so Vue was
already getting the crowd hyped up that a special surprise was going to come but it was a car painted
in ruby stone red original color I thought it was ruby star somebody said ruby star is the new
color Damon did you hear it that's ruby stone red there there's ruby star I know I know what did
he call this what did he call this I don't remember I get there anyways you you can give a
your own decision was ruby something yeah definitely ruby you know what they all look the same to me
do you what are you thinking to me me too many but it had white wheels and a white white area
oh my god was it beautiful but wow you could not wear anything but the white I think in this car
and he brought up the stage and Vue I'll let you take it from there since you were on the stage
yeah so how do you bring someone who's not expecting anything to the stage at a big event
well the gentleman that was taking the delivery his and his wife have opened the doors to their
collection in Florida to the region so I had to tell a little bit of a fib and I over the PA I said
I asked for him to come to the stage because the regions wanted to provide him with a thank you award
for you know opening up his collection to them so he was very nice I don't know he's one of I can
tell he's one of those people I mean I believe he has over 400 cars so getting another car
is probably exciting but probably not as exciting as it is for you and I he's super nice
and I think he's relatively new to the Porsche world as well I think he's more in the muscle car side
so the local region has really kind of infused their knowledge into him so that he buys all
the right cars he wanted a 959 connected with Bruce so on and so forth so Bruce and I were trading
texts and phone calls and as he was coming in he was calling me giving me like okay I'm pulling up to
the pulling up to the to the golf course I'm turning in onto the field so I had him live on
my phone and telling him that I'm trying to find the local region to come up to the stage they drove
it there oh yeah they drove it in drove it in drove it in they drove it in and as soon as he turned
onto the fairway you could see it from a distance and he pulled right up center stage
and he I think definitely the the missus was surprised she definitely had that look he was
you know he's pretty well remember what do we learn from surprising people with raffle cars
exactly sometimes they're just shocked yeah they don't then they don't act like prices right when
they run the showcase showdown they are very sometimes very quiet but more importantly the
story was awesome for the crowd because the crowd just kind of descended on the car and the best
part of it all was handing the mic over to Bruce and then the the gentleman that owns the car what
he said about PCA and you know how you know doing this here meant a lot to him and how open PCA has
been and he's having 400 cars I'm sure you get invited and you participate in all sorts of car
clubs right but he definitely getting delivery yeah when he didn't expect it yeah you know I'm
sure Bruce was telling him oh it'll be another month or something like that I think the wife knew
about it was he was he like it's day on the night again a gentleman that owns 400
a gentleman that owns 400 cars I'm sure you know cars show up and it's it's not that much of a
surprise that there's another one being added to the collection you would do that with your wife
just show it with the car and say just one more car I'm saying someone who has 400 cars I don't
have 400 cars if I did that then my neck would be could you imagine if she didn't know that would
have been that would have made even better video I don't I don't think she did I don't think that he
bought this I don't think she did she seemed pretty well I take that back she seemed surprised so
she might have been surprised that the car was there as opposed to the car the car itself wow yeah
in case you're wondering what a canepa sc which stands for sport canepa is he basically takes a
959 which is already a supercar up to horsepower from 444 stock to I think 850 850 horsepower
they repainted the whole thing but there's a video on pca's youtube actually from four or five
years ago yeah it covers that car one of our a higher rate of it and he just takes the car from
the 80s into the modern era and makes it a very drivable car now yeah that uh that you can easily
be at home with the supercars of today and supposedly if you go to his shop there's always
a couple three of them there yeah at least yeah I think there were like five or six in different
states of preparation but taking it completely apart and repain recommissioning you know the
paint everything um yeah very impressive I wish and and maybe we can do this I don't know you can
decide later Damon but Bruce left me a voicemail yesterday about how pleased he was um about the
surprise and it was pretty special that I haven't that I haven't recorded he's been a big friend of
pca and has helped us out many times on the west coast uh most recently storing a project 964
and uh not charging the club for it yeah all right so those of you that weren't there you
probably didn't know that the format of the weekend changes a little bit because typically the Amelia
island weekend the concourse we're always on friday cars and coffee and things are
going on on saturday rad wood rad wood but the um the concourse this time around was
changed to saturday rad wood was also saturday and then the concourse I'm sorry the cars and
coffee was on sunday uh weather wise wouldn't have mattered wouldn't have mattered um crowd wise
saturday was bonkers I thought it was pretty pretty nutty surprisingly parking they handled
parking very well because I found parking on the street fairly easily and I came I didn't have the
bird ticket so I came out like nine or ten or something like that and I found parking just fine
walk through rad wood was packed the concourse did you walk through redfoot because you had to
walk through red yes yes that's kind of interesting because I had media passes you went over the bridge
so I came over to bridge at different direction then so I never never made it to red never made it
to no rad wood was it was good it was solid it was a lot of cars I took lots of photos um by the way
gotta give a shout out to um Ryan Boxler he sent us a bunch of photos I'm not sure which ones are
his which ones are buck dons yeah these are ryan's here and uh I apologize if um there's some more
non-porsches mixed in but you know we like part of the event would you see yeah ryan's a chesapeake
member who is a phenomenal photographer and he uh he said we're gonna have free use of these photos
for the podcast so I will say I felt like this year there were less cars because around the
around the water feature I didn't see as usually there's just tons of super cars and all the way
to the back there's stuff um yeah there were more cars there last year than this year and I also
thought there were less vendors and less people in costume yes turn in than in previous yes
but I did capture this one couple they were so cute they were next to I think it was like
a Model T or something like that I don't know old cars um but they were fully dressed and she
had like her scarf over and they were the cutest couple old couple holding hands and somebody was
talking to him about his car and she was just kind of standing there patiently and I was like hoping
that guy would leave so I could just get a photo of them I stood there for 10 minutes waiting for
this guy to talk about how his cars looks like they're a car or something like that I'll share it
with you Damon I took the perfect shot and you and you don't know if I took the shot in 2026
or 1926 I took it in black and white that's uh that's I love that kind of stuff because you
we see Porsches all time but to see people in costume to see some of these cars that I don't
even know the names to the Della Hayes and the these chrome cars and seeing uh the like the
the Fuss Cadillacs and stuff the crazy stuff that they do I enjoy that because we see Porsches
all the time right so this one when you go to a meal you see sort of top level cars but all different
makes and models yeah it's pretty diverse and actually the cars and I guess they call cars and
caffeine on Sunday there were a lot of people there too it was more than I thought it would be
because Saturday night I was back at the Ritz for a dinner and usually when you go go there on a
Saturday night they have guards checking are your name are you rooming there or you have a
reservation or they don't let you go in I drove right up and it was it was there's no one around
I mean there are people in the bar but you know how there's usually a cars parked the valet parks
like all the nice cars they go there was no cars I don't know where everyone was so I was worried
about cars and I would meet Damon and Bogdan at PJ's I was worried I was like man did they
change you know this change up mess up Sunday's attendance but sure enough Sunday we get there
I was there what nine o'clock and the crowd was there where did they come from I have no idea
were they day trippers or or what this year's uh I guess grand marshal or feature the driver because
it's always a featured driver at at Amelia the concourse it's one of their hallmarks is featuring
race car drivers from when Bill Warner founded the concourse and this year it was Dario Franckini
which I believe was a PCA member yes and we did a story with him he definitely has several portions
but I think he's still a PCA member uh and it's and once again going back to your audio their audio
is very well done as well so yeah you may not know where they're interviewing him from but you can
hear the interview very clearly yeah and it's uh it definitely enhances uh the event the idea
I would encourage anyone who's thinking about coming to uh Amelia and uh for that
few days go ahead and do it because between works the auctions and then the concourse and cars and
coffee you will not be bored you can spend all day at this concourse just like you can at works
yeah if you are what you're seeing do if you are following us on instagram or facebook you know
bogdan was you know putting stuff up there as much as possible man you feel like you needed to be
there Dario they when I was listening to him when we were walking around and he talked about a
couple of the pretty severe crashes he had yeah and he described some of them pretty explicitly
it's especially when he's looking at the car uh that yeah was in when he crashed so do you guys
know what you guys know what his nickname was for a while when he was racing into cars no Dario
speed wagon Dario speed wagon that was pretty good yeah oh all right what else about let's
see cars and coffee cars and caffeine what they call cars and caffeine cars and caffeine cars and
cars community thank god cars and caffeine sounds better than cars and community cars community
sounds like somebody who was not a car person came up with the name for that I think they've had
they started that in Connecticut they used to have a cars and caffeine in Connecticut
if you're wondering why don't they call it cars and coffee because that's actually a trademark name
it is trademark you know and is it yes yes you can call something a cars and coffee style event
right but you can't name it call it what it is really yeah yeah yeah I mean you have to if you
write it out you have to capitalize yeah you can't name your event cars and coffee yeah so um
I think I wish they would make that free for spectators increase the fee to show your car
but make it free for spectators because 60 is it just me or $65 just for cars and caffeine
that's a tough pill was it that much $65 yeah yeah I could tell you the discount for seniors in
military was pretty substantial yeah I think it was like $30 $35 for me yeah so I mean you had to
yeah you know I'm on a fixed income you know so they're gonna take care there are a lot of cars
there um I don't know I mean I can I can see both sides of it yes would it be awesome if spectators
were free yes but to have an event on the lawn of the Ritz and have all the audio and you know
volunteers and all the stuff you know then move it to the parking lot at the Walmart
well but that's what you know it's like I yeah I mean it's your business model right like you've
got to you've got to commit to how are you gonna fund it is it gonna be funded by the people that
are showing the cars are you gonna fund it by the people that are attending and if it's it's a
little bit of both now's the perfect time to remind people that worse reunion is free to spectate
free to spectate $40 for parking but our model is you know the the organization you know
fits the bill for it because we're a nonprofit and then the attendees I mean the people that
display their cars they they are the ones that you know foot the bill as well um yeah we also don't
trade on the New York Stock Exchange right right it's a different business model so yeah I mean
but even in spite of the cost it there were a lot of people there on Sunday I was curious if it was
going to be less because it's now the last day and I don't think you could buy a super ticket
they covered everything though it seemed like you had to no I think you could there was something
where you could do Saturday Sunday and something else maybe that lesson to blow it in yeah but

made that many mccons and how quickly they got to that uh it took over 30 years I think for them
to reach that many 9-elevens and so the mcconn is their um their best seller and uh of course now
they're making gas NEV so that millionth mcconn includes both both uh but um man I still feel
it took 54 years to make um 1 million 9-elevens not 30 yeah so 12 years for the mcconn that's incredible
but again I feel for those that have to figure out what they're gonna have to do
when the ice one goes away at the end of this year no not the ice oh yeah excuse me yeah
actually um it's interesting because uh I think you're going to see
internally what I was told was um they're still gonna make the fourth cylinder in a lot of markets
that allow it um and believe it or not a lot of the I guess third world countries yeah um
ask for it but only the fourth cylinder model that's better than nothing so it may be at least
until it ties them over till the next model uh or I mean and you look at the beetle the beetle is
being made in brazil yeah uh way past it stopped being made in germany even it's sold in the u.s
it was sold in mexico it was still uh like there's you can get an 80s 80s beetle right yeah so I guess
uh if it's uh so unneeded and then you're able to sell it in that country so can I ask a controversial
question and we never really get into politics here but if because of what's happening in the
world gas prices go through the roof do you think people will be more open to moving into an ev
um that's a good question evs aren't cheap you would think that would be the perfect opportunity
to bounce upon that yeah evs still aren't the same price as entry not entry level but the economy
ice car and and I think it'll be very easy for the media to say if you spend spend over the 12
over 12 years will it be cheaper to get an ev depending on your driving habits it may not
you know it may be better to get an ice car with porches though I don't know how many
Porsche people look at mileage so we're already using super right and uh you're buying it more
for performance and and the feel um yeah I don't it's a good question at what point gas will guess
get so high that uh people start cutting back on their driving and whatnot maybe by the time this
podcast comes out we're looking at a whole different situation um yeah with the war so
speaking of evs um they you know we've been talking about development possibly development of
continued models in in the ice platform but from what you have here I'm thinking Boxster
Caiman's ev versions are still on their way yeah so this was uh about two or three podcasts ago
it was pretty much confirmed that Boxster Caiman ev was dead but I think I remember us saying that
the new CEO has not rolled or issued the future vision and I still haven't heard that but now there's
talk that it is going to be uh something that's going to happen uh so I think the best thing to
do is just sit back and wait for a Porsche's official official word it's a lot of money they
dumped into the R&D of this car so you know it's it's interesting um and this is why I always try
and put rumor in big caps if I share anything like this in in our newsletter in e-brake which I
believe and hope I did if I shared this I'm pretty sure I did um nobody was saying that that I read
that Porsche wasn't going to um develop or come out and produce the the ev 718 it was just Audi
saying that regardless of what Porsche does we're still gonna have this there was a whole week of
articles that Boxster Caiman was and was dead not officially nothing from Porsche Porsche was mum
that's what I mean but but all those articles said we're quoting Audi's internal letter saying that
um uh regardless of what Porsche does with the 718 EV we're still producing our version
and that's what the article was so if you're really between the lines like talking to some
internal oh I when I hear from internally when they say yeah it looks like it's dead
but that was uh month ago month six weeks ago I see so but the key was that the CEO had not laid
out the plans which I saw in the scene as far as what's going to stay what's not um but yeah
David to Damon's point uh you got to really read between the lines because the headlines if that's
how you read uh you're not really getting the whole true story and that's unfortunately what
people read is just the headlines and then they uh start spreading the word at whatever's dying or
not dying so do you think people are going to be able to these the EV versions of the Boxer Caiman
I've got to imagine is going to I think people that are that that hate on EVs sometimes just say
oh well it's just straight line performance right but of course when the Porsche version comes out
and I've even seen some some ring videos of the was it the Hyundai and and Ioniq five in
yeah something like that anyways six in that thing's a beast on the track so when when the
Boxer and Caiman EV versions come out and their performance surpasses any past ice version do
you think people then kind of wake up will say okay I don't care about the whatever's powering it
at the end of the day it's going to be a performance vehicle that I can have fun driving and driving it
to the limits on track and da da da da da do you think people will wake up to that I think
everyone knows that the performance is going to be there I exceed ice but there's other factors
such as the EVs have terrible depreciation and right now you're buying a two door sports car
from Porsche and you're not losing if anything at all it's very minimal so are you ready to swallow
a huge depreciation that follows like other yeah I personally am very excited about a Boxer Caiman
EV I have been for a while I would love that I would love to drive the prototype just to see what
what it's like to me whatever whatever it's a power source doesn't matter it's if it feels
like a Porsche and it performs like a Porsche let me look back to the introduction of
PDK right PDK as far as performance as far as appear than a traditional manual then a
not a normal person can can shift themselves and certainly over traditional automatic correct so
so when they first came out do you think people said the same thing like the 9 if you buy a 9 11
whatever PDK it's gonna depreciate more than a manual but fast forward to today is it that much
of a delta between buying a PDK car versus a manual I know it's it's harder to find a manual car but
I don't know that people I don't think it's as bad as a tectronic and a manual yeah correct
because there's people who want a dual clutch and they don't want to just you want to focus physical
limitations or whatnot they want the performance of a PDK and that satisfies them so I don't think
the PDK suffered nearly the depreciation as a tectronic did yeah because I especially when we
ought to cross and I see these peak stock PDK cars being able to bang out gears and you know
20 times in a run I'm like man that's pretty cool the only thing that scares me about PDK as
as a used car buyer for Porsche is the fact that more often than not you got to pay for the
replacement not to repair but I hear I hear they're starting to open up more things can be repaired
as that happens I think that will definitely enhance the value but if you're buying a car with
150,000 miles PDK we tell people just make sure all the maintenance was done yeah you know that
you can extend the life of your PDK as much as possible because it's not something you can say
well my my independent can rebuild the transmission if you're buying the whole box which is 15 grand
possibly a 15 double that really oh yeah a PDK transmission I don't think there's any PDK for
15 grand you can buy new oh wow yeah I remember the uh gosh what what was it was it Porsche owing's
mills where we were and it was a hybrid oh my god it was like it was at the transmission
oh yeah yeah yeah yeah it was a it was a Panamera turbo s e hybrid I believe yeah almost brand new
car and it had it was one of two cars that had a recall yeah like two in the US or in the world
one of the two it was um very small number and we I think so they had to the dealership had to order
under warranty this new transmission I tell me if I'm wrong I'm pretty sure it was like 60 or 70
thousand dollars just for the transmission it was yeah crazy oh well look at that we're at the
top of the hour just remind folks that uh Lake Placid is coming registrations already open
the event itself is June 14th through 20th the biggest thing for those that have not signed up
yet is finding a place to stay phase two opens April 15th the key there is uh understanding
exactly what you want to register for know that in advance so that the day that it opens you can
quickly log in make your selections and log out so that you can secure all the different custom
events that you want to make sure that you are able to enjoy during the week and we'll have a
podcast that will come out April 6th I think it's like two weeks before phase two opens
that we'll discuss things to do and registering for phase two no I also want to invite you to
come out to Treffenet C 2026 we will be sailing out of Vancouver September 19th down to San Francisco
and Santa Barbara down to LA this will be the wine cruise and wine and chocolate and so if you're

you know what I I should say uh two or three people and I don't know if this is a good or
a bad thing I like to think it's a good thing uh said that uh a couple of my reviews helped sway
them to buy cars of course that's a good thing that's why we do it not many people have told me
that but I've at this works two or three people told me that yeah uh I was there saying wow or
you need to send the commission check somewhere I know I will I just allocated 69 uh club club
coops we should be getting commission checks right maybe decide to come here's what I learned
if you want to event t-shirt buy it early yeah because the ladies who were running the um the
store uh said that the shirts sold out yeah pretty quick even though they keep on increasing the
amount of a year um they you know people people want to souvenir souvenir from the event and the
shirts the uh the first thing um and there was multiple people that came by several times at
a store because they had a lot of discounted merchandise from some previous events they
wouldn't unload so people wanted to uh all this all the shirts sold out all the grill badges
sold out resold yeah a pre-sold uh out I'm not sure if they make that available to the public
or just the entrance she she's she has she overorders a few but not a whole lot they were
very cool grill badges which was the uh side view of the uh 944 uh headlight um yeah it was a uh
pretty impressive event I would say um uh at least to me I didn't hear any complaints
the closest one was somebody who didn't win a trophy yeah but other than that uh it was uh
the same people are really happy yeah well before we close out we have one insider uh tidbit
for you if you weren't at Amelia and this is where we first talked about um something that's
coming up this spring that all of you all that are listening can take advantage of I mentioned
that we allocated 69 club coups for lucky PCA members to purchase we had over 3000 people
that wanted to buy 70th anniversary club coop 69 of them have been allocated which means we have
one club coop left and what are we going to do with that we are going to make that the first
grand prize for the spring raffle the spring raffle will open up uh April 1st um if not a
little bit earlier that'll be the first grand prize and that car is already built that is a car
that Porsche cars North America brought to Amelia Island we actually brought it up to the stage
people could see the car um we're going to keep it uh keep it in good shape and watch after it
and uh we will be uh bringing that to parade as well and hopefully I can surprise somebody
and let them know that they're the new owner so they could really physically drive away
unlike the usually raffle they order the car no the car will be done they like well I my hopes
is that they'll be up parade and I can hand them a key and they can drive it home I wanted
that's the last one built no it's not no because there's definitely cars still being built we put
in this build I see we put this build in early so that we could have the car at Amelia because this
was the first east coast debut of that car even though that car came out last and that was announced
at work reunion that's right that's uh the funny thing was I thought you had already announced it
and people were coming up to me asking me about that there's any availability for the car and I
said no but you can win it in the raffle and then when I heard you starting to do your little bit
where you're pretending that you don't thought that Aaron the president doesn't know about this
I thought oh my god he hasn't announced it yet and I've been telling people about it it wasn't
critical so that's why I was able to tell you but it was more for Hollywood and for the the drama
effect as the crowd came around the car and learned that yep and those tickets gonna sell
you know when uh April 1st April 1st April 1st all right folks well thank you for listening
