An infotainment system is the technology in cars that combines entertainment and information, like music, navigation, and phone connectivity, all in one place.
Semi-autonomous driving means the car can help you drive on its own for some things, like steering or stopping, but you still need to pay attention and be ready to take over if needed.
Monetization means finding ways to make money from car features. For example, car companies might charge you a monthly fee to use certain services like music streaming or special driving features.
Data collection means the car keeps track of how you use it, like your driving habits and what features you like. This helps car companies make better cars and services in the future.

Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly and if you're not into Halloween I
get that but like you have a full beat on your house like you have the giant you
have the six you have the 10-foot skeleton outside your house and you
can't put up in your clothes on Halloween like so what was it all for and Liz I
do kind of get that that that itch you know that real it's like I wish I was
special didn't your mom time off starts now welcome back to the carpool podcast
with Kelly and Liz happy Wednesday happy Wednesday Cal how are you well I'm doing
something like so fun today you guys Kelly it's like so crazy for this
going on like a wine day with my some of my mom friends Kelly and her mom
friends love to just take a Wednesday off and go hang out well it's a
combination of like summer stay-at-home moms some work part-time some work
full-time and we find that like I think actually think whatever we find that
weekends are harder for all of us to get away because then it's like at least
some of your kids are in school so and or you already have childcare in place
and we already have child or yeah exactly so anyway me Nicole my friends are
hitting the wineries on like a Wednesday that's just like so crazy Kelly was like
oh by the way I'm not working on Wednesday I'm going to the winery with my
friends I'm like what is your what I know that's so like not me no but I am
happy for you this is so not you you've have not had a group of friends and a
long time and so I am happy to see that you and your girls are just like going
on a we're gonna wind down on Wednesday we're gonna wind down on Wednesday and
I am it's really not so much me as I'm just like really proud for some of the
other girls in this group for getting things on the calendar because we get
things on the calendar and you know what else everyone follows through mm-hmm
which is just like two things I haven't always experienced in my life mm-hmm
yeah get on the calendar get it on the calendar empty like oh we need to get
together they're like well how's November 5th and it's like okay they're
like let's all take off work and go to the wineries it's like okay yeah sure
sometimes it's just someone throwing out the idea out there because yeah more
times than not the idea is also gonna sound good to someone else so by the
time you're listening to this I'm on a party bus on a winery on a Wednesday
okay well I'm happy for you thanks thanks thanks how's your day gonna be well
and since you are just taking off I'm gonna do some work and because someone
has to and actually one of my best friends is getting married and I'm in
her wedding and actually I don't think I've said this on the podcast but what
my other one of my best friends moved into my neighborhood she's like a few
houses down for me so we see each other all the time now and we're both bridesmaids
in this upcoming wedding and we are gonna go try on bridesmaids dresses on
Wednesday on Wednesday because I was like well Kelly's taking the day off so
girl you want to go look at dresses like today would be a good opportunity
because I have my child care set up and Kelly's not working so let's go do it
so we're gonna go try on dresses um do you know is it like a what's this
bride's vibe is she like here's the dress or she's like here's the color
here's the color here are six dresses try on all of them and then narrow it
down to like your top three so when then she's gonna because because what
everyone picks the same one right right so we'll see how they look we're both
she's more postpartum than I am which is never fun to try on dresses and we're
both kind of playing with the idea of like will they won't they be pregnant
by this wedding well I mean if you could just like stop with the pregnancy
rumors like no I like I like spinning them around I never I am pregnant people
are gonna be like she's she always acts like she's pregnant like she's not
really pregnant but then I will be pregnant well I just can't believe how
the bump ahead costume just like really took people for a loop there no that was
so dumb of us too Kelly because we were like oh you should get this Kelly and
you know people are gonna think I'm pregnant and then we still decided to
put that one on me when I'm the one that circulates more rumors no I think it's
because there was no other options at Spirit Halloween yeah there were no it
was Spirit Halloween there was a stoplight and there was a cone that said
we're grasping at straws to make it auto related we did the best we could yeah
we did the best we could it's all for the Lord so you're not pregnant no and
also I just have to say guys come on you think that's how I would announce my
pregnancy is with a cone costume that says a bump ahead you shouldn't I mean
that if I ever had to announce another pregnancy which I won't because we're
not having any more kids I would here's what here cuz I've thought about this
cuz I'm crazy I'm crazy like that I would go to Culver's and I would ask for a
number five sticker and I would stick it on my window and just take a picture of
it yeah that's cute that's so you because Culver's is my biggest and I
really I don't eat Culver's now literally ever and with my last two
pregnancies I think I discovered it with Fred and then it just care it carried
me through Fred in a major way yeah like it was a daily occurrence like I knew
when all the Culver's opened cuz like some were 1030 some were 1045 something
like I had to have my Culver's you were so addicted and then when you actually had Fred
the craziest thing is after you had Fred you were like Liz will you go run and
pick me up Culver's and that was the first meal you had after you gave birth
which is like some people have a deli sandwich some people have sushi things
they haven't been able to eat you ate the one thing you've been exclusively and
then like that's what did it for me and then I didn't have it for months yeah
like I had it one more time and then it was over yeah no I'm no I'm not pregnant
but like when I do drive past places like Culver's or other restaurants that we
would both hit together when we were pregnant which was like such a sweet
fun moment I do kind of get that that that itch you know that really it's like
I wish I was special and it's like flashbacks to giving birth I am kind of
getting those but I don't know if it's because I want to be pregnant or if I
just have like heart-shaped glasses or rose colored glasses on from like being
pregnant together and like that or just so like you can eat Culver's without
feeling any sort of guilt totally as often as you want totally hard to say
could be I don't know so anyway let's go back a bit though because we kind of
have like a I mean it was hollow weekend I have notes I have no I have
Halloween notes I have Halloween notes too did you write yours down no I didn't
but they're they're fresh in my mind okay make sure you write it down because
you're not gonna remember oh I can I can revisit this podcast I guess but yeah I
should write it down so Kelly and I and our families went to Craig and Charlotte's
house for Halloween Charlotte made mom's chili was great her first time she
crushed it and they had like a little bonfire and it was cute and Kelly and I
and Maddie took then Grayson took the kids um trick-or-treating well I'll let
we talked about this on the last podcast we were excited about their house
about their subdivision and their subdivision was pretty good yeah the
problem is we you'd walk by five houses lights off yeah and it was like okay
like there was more houses closed than open for trick-or-treaters and you know
I get it it was a Friday night you know people are out and about but the problem
was it's like turn your light on and leave a bowl of candy outside yeah and
it's like this is for the children this is for the children and if you're not
into Halloween I get that but like you have a full beat on your house like you
have the giant you have the six you have the ten-foot skeleton outside your
house and you can't put up in your clothes on Halloween like so what was it
all for that's what made me mad because Charlotte was like it's gonna be really
good I've been walking I've been scoping the neighborhood this street has a lot
of decorations out so you think you have decorated you've decorated for
Halloween you're going to be celebrating Halloween by handing out candy and or
leaving a bowl of candy for the children because otherwise what else are you doing
and that that made me mad do not decorate for Halloween and then not if
you're busy sure leave a bowl of candy out leave a bowl of candy out what my
notes one of my notes was I'm never gonna leave my neighborhood again now you
don't have a neighborhood so you will always be traveling somewhere for
trick-or-treating yeah I have a neighborhood and my neighborhood has
doesn't have a lot of kids like it's one of those neighbors the hoods that's
turning over so it's got a lot of elderly people and now new young families
are moving in and there's more and more every year but there's still not a ton
and so my friends who I said moved a few houses down was so excited for their
first Halloween in the neighborhood her husband bought all full-size candy bars
he had a cooler with nooners and beer for the parents like he was so excited and
it was so sweet however there were that many trigger-treaters so on our way
back we stopped by so James could like trick-or-treat but what I learned is I'm
not going to take the chilled the children out of my neighborhood like my
neighbors deserve the trick-or-treaters so for me to take a darling T-rex out of
the trick-or-treating game was was wrong of me well and it's we can't
complain that people weren't open when people are taking trick-or-treaters away
because I would say on the flip side there's a lot of people because on some
of the Facebook groups they pop off so sad only got three trick-or-treaters it's
just not what it used to be and it's like okay well I don't know what to tell
you so it's kind of both like we're mad that not more houses are open and they're
mad that they bought all these candy bars and no one came yeah I do think it's a
bloom or you're planted kind of thing and I think if you're planted there you
need to bloom blue that's very much what I'm thinking because my my neighbor she
said that her cousin who lives in like a neighborhood kind of across from us she's
like she was clear out of candy at 745 in like that neighborhood anyone could
tell you that's gonna be a good trigger-treating neighborhood so I don't
want us to unless you unless you will do whatever you want to do but for me you
have to travel somewhere Kelly I don't have to travel I have to bloom where I'm
planted my kids are going to get what they get and they won't throw a fit I
don't need one day I don't need them to hit the best neighborhood because I
don't need them to have all that candy we keep complaining we also keep
complaining about how much candy they get so maybe it's kind of better that
they just like thrive in their own neighborhood and when you're done you're
done yeah no I think it's I think it's a really tangible takeaway and I think
you can apply this to a lot of things in your life yeah you know it's not always
the grass isn't always greener so it's not always about like looking for like
the next best like friend group or like the house or like the church or the
school like sometimes it's just how can you make what you have better yeah
totally part of the doubt always a be part of the solution not the problem be
part of the solution not the problem well actually good one well actually he
would say it the other way but I'm flipping it he would always tell me
don't be part of the problem oh yeah you're making it more positive I'm trying
to be more positive and now I tell my kids that all the time are you being a
problem or a solution are you a problem or solution another good line that you
just picked up was from when we went to Iowa oh yeah we the woman who interviewed
us she has like three sons and she always tells her sons when they're
fighting a brother is a brother's best friend so cute so I haven't seen that to
my voice that's a cute one a sibling is a sibling's best friend it's not it's
not quite as cute no but a sister is a sister's best friend and maybe you just
say it both ways yeah but then what does that mean for like the George and
Hattie and Fred and Libby and their relationships just figure it out I don't
know not everything has to be that deep there there just be a solution be be
part of the solution don't be part of the problem you can't wait to see what
our kids say oh we said because dad has so many one-liners dad has so many one
liners for his 50th birthday we all printed out frames that had his like
sayings on them because I just like repeats the same stuff over and over and
over and over again that's how our grandma was to and if it sounds like
that's how I'm gonna be awesome he cracks me up why has he not been on the
podcast yet one of the funniest things and I might have just been delirious for
being so hungry but one of the funniest things he's ever said to me we were was
when we went we took like a big family trip in Italy and we took a cooking
class and we came hungry and then we cooked and then we sat down and then we
waited and waited and waited for I don't even know what we were waiting for but
we're starving and they finally come down they're like it's it's coming soon
like the food will be out the food is coming soon and dad goes yeah so it's
Christmas
I don't know why it's probably not even that funny no it's not that funny it's
not that funny but yeah he says it all the time coming oh well so is Christmas
Kelly so it's Christmas he has he's been saying um beats a stick in the eye to
you lately yeah I feel like dad do you want to um hey I'm making some bread like
some sourdough bread I'll bring you some he goes well beats a stick in the eye
it's like I hope so yeah like moldy bread beats a stick in the eye what are you
talking about a lot of things that beat a stick in the eye
oh gosh funny funny sorry well anyway so Halloween was fun I don't so anyway I'm
a free agent so I might hit both neighborhoods because I got four and we
might divide and conquer yeah maybe I'll divide and conquer totally um but
someone else had a big weekend this weekend huge weekend and that was Tyler
and George hard to say who had a better weekend yeah so it was youth season here
in Missouri youth deer season and if you don't want to hear this like skip ahead
in a couple seconds but it's I'll keep it PG um and deer hunting is like a big
part of Missouri if you wanted to know what it was like here we have a lot of
people especially like in the areas that I live deer hunt Tyler grew up deer
hunting and we eat a lot of venison I'm not the biggest venison person I like
certain cuts of the deer prepared certain ways but I really like deer
sausage it's like really good and our butcher is amazing and I love his recipes
and they're just like great to keep in the we keep them in our freezer and then
literally Tyler cuts one open every week and then if we ever need like basically
homemade chopsticks is what it is like so we eat we go through it and the kids
love it because it's all Tyler Tyler so so I should take a page out of a dad's
book because like if Tyler takes the kids to the farm I'll like one like pack
lunches for them and he's like no I'm just we're gonna bring deer sausage like
that's all he'll bring yeah and I'm over here like when he's like cut a peanut
butter and jelly in a circle and like send them with apple slices and he's
like no we just bring deer sausage to the farm and they'll get desperate enough
and eat it and they'll get desperate enough and eat it and they do and now
they like it so he I was right so okay for him anyway so it was George's
first year hunting he's six I thought it was a little young I wasn't like
thrilled about the idea of him going I didn't think he'd be able to sit there
for long enough I don't know if he'd be able to make the shot and like that's
like the last thing you want to do is like not make the shot or like you know
whatever so I was I was a little nervous but George and Tyler had been
target practicing a lot and George actually is a very good shot it is I'm not
saying it's easy but like the way that Tyler does it is like he has the gun on
like a stand so like it's not like George is like lifting it up himself like he
has to line the scope up he has to keep it steady and that's what he has to do
so anyway George they hunted in the morning and they passed up like two bucks
14 does and George could have killed I mean he could he could have gotten
anything but he really wanted to try to find a big buck and so Tyler was like
I was really proud of him because he like didn't want to do anything in the morning
so they didn't get anything in the morning they went back out around like three o'clock
and then this deer came out and Tyler was like George was so calm and collected he
tellers like I was like shaking like the whole stand was she was like oh my god this is so crazy
if you like there's no rush I've gone hunting like once or twice but like the rush is like
nothing I've ever felt before yeah it's really fun it's fun so anyway then George got his first deer
and it's a huge it's huge like Tyler's been hunting his whole life and Tyler says he has
one deer that's bigger than it it's so it's so exciting it's just what they both needed
like just all of Tyler's dreams coming true to be able to like have taken his son out and see
him like just do such a good job and make the shot it's just it's amazing and George was so
and I was just like really I'm really proud of Tyler because they feel like he's just really
instilled like and George was like such a love for animals so I got some questions like how
does he deal with that like with him being such an animal lover and I think Tyler's just done
a really good job of like instilling like you can love animals and understand that we have to
eat animals also and you know we've done this because you know we when we raised our pigs and
then when we've raised cows before or even like some of our chickens like we've just
seen kind of the the cycle of what it takes to raise an animal and then have that animal then
feed your family and like just like the beauty that's in that and Tyler's just done a really
excellent job instilling that in our kids and it is the same thing with deer because the way I mean
dad at our farm and Tyler at his parents farm they put in a lot of work to make sure these
animals are fed throughout the year like they they plant corn they plant clover they plant
milo like all these crops that the deer need to survive so then when you take one or two or three
a season you're really sustaining like it just it bothers me people who and I didn't get any hate
I didn't want to say that people have a good understanding but the people who don't like I
get that it's not for everyone but to not understand especially like if you're if you're not like a
vegan no offense like to not understand that people who hunt are actually doing more for the
for the life and the quality of life for the animals and people who live in a high-rise apartment
you know what I mean like it's just it's so it's just it's just interesting um but I'm very proud
of him and George was very excited that we are turning it into sausage I love it I'm so proud
of him that's awesome yeah it's so exciting so that was like peak and like if you are
like a hunting wife like an opening day buck it's like the best thing we could ask for
and Tyler was like it's so it's not regular season yet so like Tyler isn't going yet
and I was like I don't even know if I need to go this year like I feel like we just like did it and
like perfect wow see Maddie's picking up hunting he um which he should you know um he went so this
is gonna be his first season and I think actually Tyler might take him out so Tyler seems to be
pretty lucky lucky luck charm um but yeah Maddie Maddie's gonna do it he loves it he says it's so
refreshing to like walk through the woods and not be afraid that you're about to be shot
per his military experience oh okay okay yeah okay yeah so he's he's he's excited about it
that's awesome but that doesn't mean I'm about to be a hunting wife now too
well it's fun you'll you'll be part of something I'm sure me my all my mom friends will get together
you can come oh I know you girls are you
anyway speaking of getting together we got an advice question in that I wanted to answer
if that would be okay with you okay um let me pull it up I texted it to you okay hey Kelly and Liz
you've inspired me to stretch myself and try hosting other families I've got two little boys
five and three and know they would benefit from playtime with other kiddos I'm wondering if you
have any tips or thoughts on winter hosting where does everyone hang out kitchen slash family room
since some of the kids are still little it's hard to send them fully off on their own
do you plan things for the kids to do do you expect the parents to hang in the playroom
our kids are always asking us to play slash usually end up fighting if we're not around
so to host others and keep the kiddos in check makes me hesitant thanks for all you do I love
the podcast look forward to it and all of your ideas slash hot takes every week Amanda oh Jen Jen
doesn't matter I liked this question because first of all when I see you guys posting the
Facebook page that you're hosting like my heart explodes my heart freaking explodes so thank you
for doing that I have a lot I want to say about hosting because we hosted this weekend um and it
was a lot of kids let me count them up for you 13 kids 13 young kids like the oldest was probably
eight um and I feel like I don't I don't plan activities because I think the activity is
that we have a friend over and I find that like there is just so much good creativity from other
kids seeing my kids toys and like my kids looking at their toys in a new way I also love to send
kids outside even in the winter it's like we put a coat on um or we do a bonfire we do like some
sort of outdoor activity but I would say like my tangible takeaways for this is if you because I
totally get like it's so not the vibe like you bring over like these young kids who need to be
supervised like let's say it's like Libby and Fred's age only and then it's like okay how are you like
talking to the parents and like you're all downstairs and like maybe you want to be upstairs
maybe you want to be in this room so my first advice would be like if you want to I think starting
really small is a good tip like just go for like one other family and just kind of let the kids I
guess kind of lead it like I wouldn't put too much pressure on it I would say the point of you
gathering is to get the kids together where I feel like sometimes the point of what sometimes when I
host like the point is to watch the football game or to have dinner and so then the kids are kind of
I guess like the second not the second thought but they're coexisting in that they're coexisting in
that but for really young kids like you're doing this for the play date yeah so I would set your
expectations up for that making it like you're like you're doing a super easy dinner like a dinner
that can be like eating on paper plates like walking in the playroom maybe um but I wouldn't
I wouldn't put the pressure of like playing in an extra activity I also think though if you wanted
to like connect with the parents and have your friends over maybe a couple of people don't underestimate
the power of a 12 year old like you could so easily get like a mother's helper like a 10 11 12 year
old to come over and just hang out in the basement they don't cost what a babysitter costs like they're
just happy to like you know make a little bit of extra money and then they can just do a good job
of like supervising in a way to make sure nobody gets hurt but like you guys are right upstairs
if needed yeah I feel like that's a good a good hack a good tangible takeaway yeah I agree I also
just like just keep in mind that we're all in the same stage of life so whereas you're like oh gosh
I'm having these people over and we're just like sitting on the floor of my playroom like that's
what they're doing at their house too that's what they're doing that so it's better better together
so they get it so like don't don't be nervous about that and also like if the vibes are vibing and
like you can like send the dads downstairs or send the moms downstairs like you can split up so that
way like maybe you're you want to like be doing stuff in the kitchen like then the moms can hang
out in the kitchen and the dads can go supervise the kids downstairs like you can split up too
totally you can split up and you can also split up sometimes like the invitation like because I
if especially if it's you know older kids or like it would be too many kids I think there's
nothing wrong with being like hey do you want to bring like James over Tyler's gonna be with the
other kids but like I would love to get the boys together so then you're basically saying like hey
you have your husband stay home too with your other kids like let's just do like a one-on-one
play date sure yeah option two option two a lot of a lot of options actually worlds are always
starting I really hope everyone's challenging themselves to host a little bit this holiday season
so anyway we have seen I'm gonna host some sort of girls thing with the girls in my neighborhood
just because like that sourdough thing can't stop talking about it can't stop making it like
so inspired I need to decide what I'm gonna do but the best take away one of the most
best takeaways you've ever given was like invite people over and say this is what we're doing
do you want to come I know I'm making chili would you and your family like to join so that's
what we did last night we said hey we're gonna turn on the football game I have some left over
beef stew people just like brought other things to go with beef stew so like no big deal I didn't
even know you hosted last night yeah no I'm always hosting she's always hosting and it does let me
like I don't always want to do it but I'm always happy after the fact and I just think it's good
it's just good for my kids it's good for me it's good for the lord I was also proud of you
that you put that dear garland I know I'm like I'm such a thing up which like we've been doing
this podcast for a few years now you can go back a couple of years when we were talking about fall
decor and Kelly was like I don't like decorations like no decor I'm not doing it and it's just so
interesting to see where your different phases of your life lead you yeah I'm a hypocrite
no you're not a hypocrite you're evolving and you're you are expanding and you're getting more
headspace for more things in that phase in your life you couldn't fathom putting up a garland
like you were just being stretched in a lot of directions and it's crazy to think that you were
because you have like more kids than you do now but you are just so much better equipped to handle
it that you are willing to put up a garland and that's life so if you feel like you're drowning
right now and you can't fathom a garland just know one of these days you might fathom one
let's check in on our hobbies our micro hobbies oh i'm so happy you said that okay let's do it so
if you missed last episode well we thought I was a really big fan of micro hobbies have we done
a like micro hobbies podcast oh for sure yeah we for sure okay maybe we need to do that again though
because a micro hobby is basically just something you're doing like it's not a hobby and like the
traditional like oh i'm i do pottery or like horseback riding or like pickleball it's like
just like little things you're you're currently working on i'm making bread making sourdough yeah
mine was frying fish this past summer i got so into frying fish anyway so my micro hobby is i
want to try to learn how to can jalapenos because i really like canned jalapenos especially in my
chili like fresh canned yeah and elizabeth was to learn how to give herself a blowout
mm-hmm so we're we promise to do weekly check-ins to keep on to stay on track
to be honest so i i have not booked a blowout appointment yet but i did blow out my hair
and i do think i i've done it twice and i and i've definitely gotten better with the technique
my problem is i can't get the volume and like the next day after i sleep on it it's just flat
it's so flat like i can't get that like volume that i'm after so i need to try i think teasing
a more of like a volumizing spray and someone also suggested curlers and i think curlers could
be a nice move as well oh i think curl i think like two little hot rollers in your head could be
could take you a really long way elizabeth yeah yeah i really do actually so figuring out the
ball i think i've got the rolling technique in a much better spot i just cannot figure at the volume
you can't figure out the volume that's not that's what's on my agenda this week well i have done
very little i mean i did ask my mother-in-law for the recipe she then went out of town
so i'm giving her space and grace and i'm gonna maybe follow up with her i did watch a reel on
canning just accidentally came across my desk um seems so hard really it's just it's the boiling
of the water and then you have to have these little jar things and you have to take it out and
you have to seal it and you have to like boil the jars ahead of time to sanitize them like i
it's gonna be it's gonna stretch me in a major way you need like you and there's something that
just watching a video on youtube like is not the same as like i want to sit down with a person and
have a person walk me through it yeah totally but i think if i understood my thing is i need to
understand like the science behind canning a little bit more yeah because i think once i understand
like okay you boil this because i think you boil it in the jar because it helps seal better
no one freak out if you know what you're doing because i'm not going to be doing anything till
i'm sure but i don't have a major update yet and i wish i had more but but also like i think
whenever you get to the point and maybe you try with something like not so much like the
jalapenos like maybe you try it with like peaches or something maybe try to try and can it and then
like if a month passes and you see that there's mold in there okay you didn't do it right
for two weeks past you know you just kind of have to figure like see if you're even doing it right
well and this girl i was following here's what i should actually do i need to buy some mason jars
and she's like all of her empty jars she fills with water in cans them because she's like
it takes the same amount of space and then like in case of emergency i'd have like fresh water
so she's just can't hand water i guess is fine because it's canned because it's sealed because
it's sealed like you just couldn't like put water in a mason jar then like stick it in your cupboard
for years right because it's still water creates like bacteria but she canned it so maybe i like
could start with like can i just can water to get the canning process down before like i waste
no no i would i would can't because you're not going to be able to tell if water if it's gone bad
like you need to see if you're doing it right i guess you're making a good point is what i'm so
like do something easy like green i don't know just use anything i'll also green beans whatever
that's the update that's the update let us know how your micro hobbies are going
yeah and you want to learn how to make bread you asked me for my bread recipes i know but i'm just
and i i'm getting close i just don't have all my ducks in a row yet okay i need to get a couple
more things in a row oh you know what else i need to do this week what i need to pull out my thankful
turkey from last year not the thankful turkey do you remember that i remember the thankful turkey
and it was a big lesson that i've learned in life that i'm really thankful for the thankful
turkey because last year it's basically this turkey that you hang on your wall and then every
day your kids tell you something they're thankful for and that becomes the feathers of the turkey
and i was so postpartum with liby and i was like i am not in a space to make a thankful turkey i was
like this is just not going to happen like any free second i had to make a thankful turkey any
free second i have the last thing i need to be doing is things with construction paper but i was
but i just need to make it because like i can always clean the kitchen
and if i just take this time to like not clean the kitchen right now but to make my thankful
turkey tomorrow maybe even later that day i will have a clean kitchen and a thankful turkey
like i will be able to get both eventually gosh it's so crazy to think i remember this is a whole
podcast topic was how you couldn't make this dank thankful turkey i know and it just it's sending me
back to the postpartum days of like really darkness of just like what did i do why do i have two kids
this is so crazy and it's just amazing how it gets so much better and then you have time to
clean the kitchen and make a thankful turkey yeah so so you're pulling so but so did you
laminate it the one that you made last year i don't remember honestly probably not it doesn't
sound like something okay i think we have a laminator if you need if you need to bring it over
we can okay i decided to keep it because i was like i would then i won't have to make it every
year so i need to go find it but i'm also not gonna i mean it's november it's november third at the
time of this recording like respectfully sounds like i think i got about two weeks of thankful
turkiness in me so i think i might do it the following week yeah okay maybe i do it now i
don't know well go see if you got it okay it doesn't hurt to sit on to sit on the wall or in a box
sure are you ready for industry news where i spill the hot tea going on the auto industry
always ready cow and it's tea sorry my eyelashes are so clumpy do you see this
yeah i don't know what's going on i used a bad mascara today um a clumpy one i guess okay this
is like what everyone's talking about and we've talked about this before but now i guess there's
just more um movement on the topic but gm will be dropping apple carbine android auto from all of
its vehicles yeah uh huh that's uh bad uh huh so why so they're starting with their evs and
then it's going to eventually expand to all of their ice cars the company plans to transition to
its own voice automated in integrated infotainment system which includes features like navigation
and car services um but this change will be phased out over time so the reasons that they're
saying for change well the reasons for change seamless integration gm states that customers
complained about the clunky experience of switching between phone based and the vehicles
native interface so it aims for a more seamless integrated experience with its own software
first of all show me the study show me show me who's complaining now do i like wireless apple
carplay no i like to be i like to plug in it's not clunky though it's your phone
it's not clunky fix the fix the wireless apple carplay like fix that when apple carplay is working
the way it should no one's complaining okay they also say that the automaker wants to move to its own
software that's not dependent on a smartphone this allows gm to create more tightly coupled system
for drivers assistance features and other graded other integrated services so how am i how am i
playing my spot i don't i don't know but this i kind of understand i i really love apple carplay
but i get what they're saying about how like for like a for like an
like a ai-esque sort of semi-autonomous driving futuristic experience i understand how like if
it's all like their system they could probably do more cool things with it but i'm not happy about it
because then it goes to monetization by replacing the the phone mirroring technology
with this own system gm can create new revenue streams through through subscription for services
like streaming music and other concierge features and then we have data collection having its own
system allows gm to collect more data on user behavior within the car which can provide insights
for future product development and service offerings if it is good and it is easy to use and it's easy
to connect your phone and i like my fears it's gonna be like oh you want your Spotify download
the app figure out what the heck your login is oh that was wrong rolling and forgot password like
if it's easy i'm fine with it my fear is that it's going to be clunkier but if they're trying to
fix a clunky aspect then you would think they're going to do everything in their power to make it
not clunky at all so well i just to like get rid of it entirely it's just like kind of i just find
this sounds expensive is what it sounds
it's just like because now basically all the tech that they're getting from free from apple
and android now they're like saying they're going to do themselves and i'm just saying
it's just i just see things like this and i just think dollar signs dollar signs dollar signs
oh so make the price of the car more expensive i gotcha yeah
i don't know we'll see see as someone who switches out of cars a lot like it sounds like a major
nightmare to me i'm we are such exceptions in that so i do think that like you buy a car you
keep it for a long time like you're brand loyal you're used to their products like maybe you
won't notice it i just really like apple car play i like and i like and i think it's safer i agree
so when i'm switching out of my car and then i get into maddie's big truck which is already like
slightly different from what i'm used to last thing i want to do is be fumbling around trying
to get my directions or change you know my song or whatever whatever it's nice to have that consistency
on the screen so it's so it's like a bike bike yeah i don't know babe yeah we'll have to see i
make sure to see if other manufacturers take this on i don't want to as of right now i don't like it
i hope it's amazing i hope i'm wrong they're not a bunch of idiots i but i know that's what i'm
that's what i'm saying like if they are if people are allegedly claiming that it's clunky and they
are going to do something to make it and make something not clunky then i'm expecting it to
be amazing so we'll see and that's industry news no that was that was juicy okay well now it is
time for ditch the drive through where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you
dinner dinner rut and today's just the drive through is something we had last night which was
lasagna soup lasagna now my friend made it and it was honestly excellent and i was like i can't
let me just throw this together and she goes well i have ground sausage and beef and my
freeze are ready to go at all times fully cooked living a life that you've always wanted it's
really hard to see other people living out your dreams and my excuse is negative because she
also has four kids so i better get after it i better get after it does she have it but does
she have a thankful turkey do you think yeah you know what i mean well and she's yeah she's one of
me like i so i love that idea because also it's like the soup was delicious as it was like it was
so yummy so filling walk me through a lasagna soup but there was like some broth some noodles
tomato but cut up like kind of small which was kind of fun and then just like some ground beef
and ground sausage and then she put some cheese in the crockpot and then she started with ricotta if
pep on top just for some more razzle dazzle zing zang and it was delicious and i'm really
going to try to sound like windbag but like i have my black stone it's going to kind of be like
good fall weather i'm like what i have so much ground beef in my freezer i'm like what if i could
just brown this like just do five pounds of it ready to go i know i'm a windbag i'm a windbag
be a be a part of this solution not a part of the problem be all right so i i don't want to hear
you bring up browning a bunch of ground beef one more time until you have done it done done done
um kelly i need you since i can't look on my phone right now i need you to look up
right now that recipe that um charlotte's mom made i don't need to look at halloween party i'm
obsessed with this so oh my gosh so at the halloween party charlotte's mom who is a girl who
always brings a good dip like i've only been in i've only seen charlotte's mom in this capacity
twice and i've been impressed both times the first was that their single to mile party when she
brought a homemade mango salsa which was like a really a lot of razzle dazzle and then she strolls
into this party with a little pie dish with the best dip i've ever had here's what it was so easy
here's what it was bores and cheese so like spread on the bottom fig jam delicious pistachio
fig jam and i was like girl i'm in yeah pistachios hot honey drizzle on top
served with a cracker on the side it's everything it was everything it was excellent i'm gonna make
it for my wine day oh you should yeah we were we kept complimenting her and she was like girls
couldn't have been easier like stop complimenting me like i'd like she she said it was so easy and
it was such a big payoff and it was such a wow moment mm-hmm such a wow moment really good
and also don't forget that um this month is november beef so it's a browning kelly get to
browning and november beef we are going to be doing one ground beef recipe a week and if you
want to get the emails with the recipe you can go to the car mom official dot com and sign up for
our newsletter we're gonna be pushing our ground beef recipes so i'm very excited about and let
me know i want to have someone on the podcast in november or december i want to have someone who
is like a grocery budget meal expert yeah so that reminds me this is a good ditch the drive
through because i saw a girl like that on my instagram these are now my favorite instagram
videos to watch um she made a bar she made pulled pork in the crackpot and then she reused it for
four meals i saw this girl i saw this girl today oh okay yeah so she made she made her you know
shredded pork in the crackpot we all know how to do it um first day she did like tostadas um next day
she did what did she do oh she did um like on a bun with some mac and cheese and like coleslaw
like barbecue uh pulled pork sliders then she did um i think another thing in like a
mexican variety i can't remember what exactly what it was but then the last day she did barbecue
pork pizza uh flatbreads which is like such a good way to reuse like that's a great last day
because you're like oh my gosh like i can't really see anything that much pork i was thinking also
okay make it and then put in the freezer and then have it next week or make it and put in
the freezer and have it next week you know there's options are limitless so anyway send me your
best like i want someone who's like teach people how to cut their grocery bills in half like i just
think that's very um that's that just would be someone i'm interested in bringing on like how
can we cut our grocery bills yeah yeah make make good smart swaps yeah totally and with that that's
gonna be our episode so thank you guys so much for listening we recorded this on monday so we
our seats we're on the edge of our seat friday we will be doing our predictions oh wait because
it already happened though no because this is awkward because it's coming out wednesday yeah and
if one of them is like dead wrong i think though that danielle is gonna go home there's like a lot
of hollow blue on the internet about like people really wanting whitney gone which is just not fair
well i know there is and
i don't think she deserves to go home i don't think she's gonna win
no i don't think she's gonna win but there is like when you have to have the fan vote
there is a group of people on the internet that says they're gonna keep voting for andy until
whitney gets voted off and then they will stop voting i don't know where the whitney hate is
coming from i mean she was really bad in her first season but like can't we get over it can't we
all agree there was like a reality show and like you wouldn't be watching it unless there was a
villain like at the end of the day she's still a mom guys she's still just a girl well she's an
artist for a second i mean this is a dancing competition it's a dancing competition we're
so obsessed i look here i we're obsessed i love dancing with the stars oh my gosh kelly did you

About this episode
Kelly and Liz dive into their personal lives, sharing stories about Halloween festivities, wine outings, and the challenges of parenting. They discuss the importance of community and hosting playdates, offering practical tips for parents. The episode also highlights a significant hunting milestone for Liz's son, George, and touches on industry news regarding GM's decision to drop Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in favor of their own infotainment system. The hosts wrap up with a delicious lasagna soup recipe and a call for grocery budgeting tips.
Happy Wednesday! While you're listening to this episode, Kelly is out drinking wine and Lizz is bridesmaid dress shopping. But before any of that, Lizz needs to again stop the rumors. She is NOT pregnant despite what the Halloween costume said! Speaking of Halloween, they both have notes from trick-or-treating that needs to be discussed. Why do people have giant decorations and then don't hand out candy?
With winter on its way, a listener has written in to get some advice on winter hosting. Since Kelly is fully in her hosting era, this is the perfect topic to bring up. Both she and Lizz have hosting in their future and share some great ideas you're going to want to pay attention to. It's kind of a micro-hobby and speaking of micro-hobbies, it's time for an update on what Kelly and Lizz are working on. Have they made any progress?
In Industry News, it's time to discuss GM getting rid of Apple Play. Why are they doing it? Will it be an upgrade or a downgrade?
Then in Ditch the Drive-Thru, there are a lot of dishes Kelly and Lizz have to share. First is a delicious lasagna soup, then a dip that made their Halloween night and the beginnings of Novembeef.
Before they go, Kelly and Lizz have to make some 'Dancing with the Star' predictions!
