Aerodynamics is about how the car moves through the air. In racing, better aerodynamics can help the car grip the road more and go faster with less drag.
A six-speed manual is a car where you choose gears yourself using a clutch pedal and a stick. The segment is about whether that kind of transmission should be offered as an option.
They’re talking about Chevrolet Corvettes and who buys them. The key point is that some people want a manual gearbox, and that can change how many cars a company sells.
Carfax is a vehicle history report service that compiles reported events like accidents, title changes, and sometimes airbag deployment. In used-car shopping, it’s often used to verify what a seller says about a car’s past.
The Chevrolet Express is a large van made by Chevrolet. It’s often used to carry people or cargo, especially for work. The podcast is describing it as if it were set up for comfort, like a personal vehicle.
A PIT maneuver is a tactic police use to stop a fleeing car. They bump the back of the car in a controlled way so the car starts to spin and loses control.
Arkansas State Patrol is a police agency that patrols highways in Arkansas. Here, they’re mentioned because people watch videos of their PIT maneuver driving.
A Chevy Suburban is a large SUV. Because it’s so big, it’s harder to safely pull over or maneuver in tight space, which is relevant to what the trooper did.
The core issue discussed is that the officer used a PIT on the wrong vehicle. That’s a major procedural and safety failure because the tactic is intended for a specific suspect car, not a nearby or similarly behaving vehicle.
The Porsche 911 is a famous sports car made by Porsche. People often care about the exact year and options, because some features become hard to find later. The podcast is pointing out that certain early versions are especially rare.
Speed cameras are devices that take pictures or record data when cars go too fast. They help police track speeding without pulling people over every time.
The Chrysler New Yorker is a large, older-style luxury car. In the podcast, it’s mentioned alongside a safety-related statistic. That means the conversation is likely about how that kind of car performs in crash or injury data.
The Audi A6 is a luxury sedan, meaning it’s designed to be comfortable and feature-rich. The podcast mentions the 2023 model and talks about statistics, so it’s likely being evaluated using real-world information. It’s not a sports car focus—more of a comfort and tech focus.
They’re distinguishing between any crash and a crash that actually hurts people. Injury-causing crashes are the ones that matter most for real-world safety.
The Subaru Outback is a practical Subaru with all-wheel drive. Here they’re saying the plate points to an Outback, specifically the more rugged Wilderness version.
Term
bore scoring issues
“Bore scoring” means the inside of an engine cylinder gets scratched or worn. That can hurt how the engine seals and burns fuel, which may lead to misfires and other trouble codes.
“Lifted” means the car or truck has been raised higher off the ground than stock. People do this for looks, more clearance, and sometimes off-roading. The speaker is describing the vehicle’s raised stance.
Car
Bentley GTC
They’re talking about a Bentley GTC, which is Bentley’s luxury grand touring convertible. It’s the kind of car people associate with comfort and prestige. In this segment it’s just part of a joke about dream cars.
A four-post lift is a garage platform that raises a car using four supports. People like it because it can free up space under the car for storage and makes working underneath easier.
GoDaddy is a big tech company best known for domains and websites. Here it’s just part of the story—someone connected to GoDaddy was the person selling the Corvette.
A 2003 Viper SRT-10 is a powerful Dodge sports car. The speaker is talking about buying it in a “rolling chassis” form, meaning it may be missing parts and needs work.
They’re talking about a car dealership called Switch Cars. It’s where they say they find and sell cars they personally like, and it’s also sponsoring this part of the show.
Car
Hyundai Palisades
They’re talking about a recall for the 2026 Hyundai Palisades. Hyundai reportedly stopped sales because the power seats can be dangerous and potentially crush a person.
Stellantis is a big car company that owns several brands. So when they say “Stellantis,” they mean the company behind brands like Dodge.
LIVE
Well, it is 703 so that means we should uh, let's go
Hit the bricks. Uh-huh
Watch Glenn Gary Glenn Ross Glenn Gary Glenn Ross. I mean at least get the patreon going. That's a top five movie for me
Glenn Gary Glenn, right? It sounds like a scotch Glenn Gary Glenn Ross. They drink scotch in it
Al Pacino and Jack Lemon go to the bar Al Pacino orders Cudi and Jack Lemon orders J&B
So if we're counting that a scotch, you're kind of right. Hey all our patreoners
Do you like Glenn Gary Glenn Ross that coffee down? Yeah, there we go. He gets it. He gets it always be close
Coffee is for good. That's like such a good. I've never seen the rest of the movie
But that monologue is that's the only bit that Alec Baldwin's in that movie is that one monologue
He's not he's not in any other scene. It's fantastic
Anyway, you didn't come here to listen to me talk about movies
You came here to listen to us talk about cars and the us would be your hosts Doug Tavitt and Tyler Sanders
Hello and behind the scenes, but trying to steal the show tonight was Ethan Huff Nagle
Been talking about sitcoms since he got here
Really discriminating against the book readers and homeschoolers in the in the group here
What I'm on I'm what book are you reading right now? What's on your shelf three?
I'm re-reading why we drive Matthew Crawford the book that we talk about
Here often and forms most of my automotive religion
I'm reading the little book of common sense investing John Bogle which you lent to me. It's a good one
It's good zero interest
Oh
Shoot, I think no, maybe I am down to two. I just finished
I
Just finished a book on Winston Churchill and I just finished Sherlock Holmes
And the next book I'm gonna pick up when I finished these two is the story of the you go
Not a big fiction guy. Are you I do like I just finished Sherlock Holmes
Yeah, but every other book you've listed here is I recently was called out for that by so my fancies
In a book club and they like at some point
I was talking with some portion of that book club and I got very called out that they're like you only read
Nonfiction was like what do you mean?
I love like Harry Potter and like Lord of the Rings and like I used to read sci-fi and it's like I look at the books
I've read in the past like two years. It's all either just nonfiction or like philosophy. I
In brain I enjoy fiction. I do very much enjoy
Yeah
I
Any history book has to be like the Winston Churchill thing is a very short read. It has to be interesting and compelling
Yeah, even the cannonball historical books that I've tried to start have not been able to finish as much as I enjoy the topic
It's just it's so much stuff to take in that. It's it's difficult for me
It's why our podcast only an hour long and doesn't contain many facts
I
Switch cast the podcast where we know we're talking about despite evidence to the contrary
The automotive podcast. It's not just for car people. We'll talk about anything as long as is tangentially automotive related notice
How we talked about books there
Hardly automotive related except one of them is oh the art of racing in the rain. That's on my list to read again
It's a very good book
It's awesome, and I it's been just long enough that I kind of forget how it ends like I remember the
major parts of it
But I can read it again, and I think be almost as emotionally moved as the first time I read it
So I am looking forward to have you read. I'm so embarrassed. I hope one of you guys can haven't read that no
Well, that's well
Who's the the guy that died in like the 70s that raced with Penske a lot? He wrote a book Mark Donahue
Yes, his book is fantastic. Oh
I like I read it in no time flat because I just like couldn't stop
it's just about all the different racing seasons that he went through and how he was a
Combination of like obviously a very skilled driver, but then an engineer at the same time
So he like knew how the car worked and he was learning aerodynamics and like engineering and stuff to like help out the teams building the cars
Fantastic such a good book interesting too because race cars used to run on alcohol. So what is fueling this podcast Tyler?
All right, I was gonna say what another another auto book though if you guys read a
Never mind, I'm cutting this this isn't funny
Where are you guys ever read go dog go
That is one of my least favorite Dr. Sue's books, okay Tyler
What are we my goodness? What are we sipping tonight? We are drinking responsible quantities
a
Joseph Magnus barrel pick which is not something I have seen in a very very long time
But the question is is it barrel proof? I don't know that
All right, I tell us about this
So this was brought by our technical advisor mr. Dan Doucette. This is a
Joseph Magnus usually finishes their whiskey is this finished in something I'm guessing I'm about to finish it
Oh, I think it's finished in some kind of
Like barrels unique okay aged it in so they've got this is a very specific barrel of one
But like Joseph Magnus doesn't typically do barrel picks they haven't in a long time
But the last one I had probably four or five years ago was amazing
All right, so I do not know the proof of this. I'm going to sip it and see if my proof meter is working
Nobody actually cares, but I feel like this is my one special talent
No, no, that's not that is so good
I'm not gonna answer that
Holy moly, I just stick a straw in that
That is incredibly good that is so good that is good Wow
I can smell it from here not joking. Oh
My goodness gracious. That's definitely finished in something
110
That's like really close. It's one oh the five
All right, if I can math correctly. All right
Not too bad
Yeah, one oh one oh six fifty two point seven times two. All right, I'll take that as a win still got my game
Okay, let's get let's get warmed up here
Warmed up our tummies with that scotchy scotch scotch down it goes down into my belly except it's not Scott
We a prop of the week recently was
That was it?
Tremac had come up with a six-speed manual for the well general motors
Has squelched rumors about this being a possible option
One of their engineers citing that customers voted with their wallets
Because less than 25% of C7 sold were manual
So why would we make a C8? That's a manual when less than a quarter of people
Want a manual, but that's like a significant market share, huh?
like if right hardly over a quarter of
Accidents are speed related yet that is seen as the worst crime and worst problem to solve in America hate it
but I
Think back to the C5's only 20% of those were manuals
Seriously? Yeah, like that's been the stat forever
Corvettes or boomer cars and people want
Automatics in Corvettes for the most part, but like you're you're really gonna know ignore one-fifth of your customer base
That is a big percentage
Can you imagine like one that that essentially means that
statistically
One in every five people would have bought a manual
That is like you could fit that in a really you can visualize that or they would have sold 10 to 15 percent more cars
Yeah, there would have been like an extra person in the room. Mm-hmm. Oh
No, other way it would have been 25 if well assuming that everybody who wanted a manual didn't buy a Corvette
which is not a fair assumption, but they would have sold 25 percent more cars because
20 percent of a hundred twenty-five percent is a hundred percent so
Math, I'm gonna show those we're gonna show their skills later
There's gonna be more math tonight. I'm just proving that I know how to work backwards to a number. Thank you chat jippity
I did that in my head, bro. Well, the other the later stuff is harder later. Okay, I
Have been used of a lot of things
But I've been accused of seeing myself as a moral police of the car industry, which is really not true
I'm really just tired of the lack of integrity of my competitors and I'm not willing to be silent about it
When it comes to like major stuff
There's just cardular
cheeseball stuff like high dock fees and everything but whatever
but
Personally, I'm a consumer and a car lover first. That's why I got into the business. So I
In a sense think about it from the perspective of I would not want to be treated
the way some of these dealers treat other customers like I've gone car shopping before
just like walking into a dealer where I don't know anybody and the
Stark difference between that and the like
Professional courtesy I get as for being an industry insider is unreal
Like I could never go back to just being a guy. Yeah, who walks into a dealership. It's terrible most of the time
anyway
On the podcast we really only go after the low-hanging fruit in terms of dealers being car dealers
Yeah, like federal charge is often
They're really egregious stuff, but today a customer sent me he's on a hunt for a 997 turbo cabriolet
And he went and saw one at a dealership local to him
I will not out the dealership because this is he said she said I take my customers word
But I'm not going to badmouth the dealer based on only that but story is what the story is
So he sent me the link. I clicked on the car fax which is on their website
Accident reported airbags deployed who I was like, yeah, probably should pass on that car. So I sent him that info he goes oh
They told me they didn't have access to a car fax. What come on. Oh
That
That works I guarantee that works it does don't have access to a cut you got the Vin bro
Why lie about something that's that
Verifiable other than that it works so often well, that's what I wonder and I guess it's scale
It would be a significant amount of money
But it makes me wonder how much extra money are folks making by doing that
I guess if they're buying really low because they know it's got a bad title accident whatever and they can sell really high
That's a significant swing, but like
Golly, you know the dealer bought it cheap because of that. Oh, yeah, like you know beyond wholesale like yeah

Onto our first main topic this one this one's hilarious
everybody knows about the I won't say the antics, but the the
The pit maneuvers with the Arkansas State Patrol. I think there's an entire YouTube channels dedicated just to Trooper Bird
He's like how many people know just the name of a random state trooper other than
Watching lots and lots of pit maneuvers
Arkansas State Patrol is known as kind of giving zero F's they will pursue anybody for nearly anything
I even saw a video from years back where they did a pit maneuver and
Caused a mom in a minivan to flip on the highway because she had put her turn signal on after
The cop lit her up and
Was going to the next exit to stop because there wasn't enough room to pull over on the shoulder, but apparently
One mile was too long to wait. So the cop friggin did a pit maneuver on her. So they're very very aggressive
probably even more so than Georgia or Florida there is an entire
YouTube playlist for Arkansas State Police legend trooper bird that is 46 videos long
And he's not even the legend. There's another guy that I I can't remember his name
But if I ever find it again, I've got a bookmark it because he was known as like the pit
Legend and he had performed some hundreds of pits and I'm quite sure it was Arkansas
It may have been a different state
But I watched this video where he pit somebody at like a hundred miles an hour and it was textbook
right a lot of these pit maneuvers these guys are ramming the rear end and
Doing damage to their car and it's going all wrong for everybody a correct pit maneuver is that you get
The front
Corner of your vehicle against the back corner of theirs behind the rear wheel
You don't ram them
It's very minimal contact and you slightly turn into them ever so slightly and you accelerate because as you accelerate when you make
The contact that lifts the rear end of their car slightly
Which reduces the traction in the rear and causes the car to spin around nicely almost in place
Nobody does that
But anyway
Speaking of pit maneuvers in the news recently
Arkansas State Police trooper
fired after they did a TVI or a pit maneuver on the wrong car. Oh
Oh
The wrong car wrong don't don't cars have license plates that somehow uniquely identify that
Asterisk that vehicle so they know which one they're chasing doesn't isn't that one of the first things that a cop does is check your plate
usually yes, usually
And after having them pulled over for quite a while you'd think they become familiar with the vehicle the background
Is and we'll link the we'll link the video in the show notes and in the video description, but the background is
the state trooper was pursuing a vehicle caught up to them the vehicle pulled over and
The state trooper identified a smell of marijuana and also determined that the driver's license was suspended
So he said okay, please step out of the vehicle the guys opened the door closed it again and then took off
Ah, he went from the shoulder all the way to the left lane on a multi-lane highway
I think it was three lanes, maybe four with the exit and
According to the video description the trooper lost sight of the vehicle now
I've watched hundreds of these videos and
I've seen videos where I the guys a mile away and the troopers still calling out where they are and which street they turn on
So on the video, you definitely can't see things as well. It's smaller
It's grainier than the trooper can in real life
I could still see the car in the frame of the video when the trooper
Started again to pursue and pulled out like he had made it less than a quarter of a mile and the trooper was on the gas
Pursuing him. I never lost sight of the vehicle in the video frame. Yeah, I'm like locked on it right now
Yeah, it's like a couple of pixels and the guys like full throttle right shoulder to left lane
But the trooper immediately places himself behind a Chevy Suburban that's traveling slowly in the right lane
Definitely not running from him and oh by the way
It was a Buick and Vista, which is a crossover
And he got himself behind a Chevy Suburban
Which is not a crossover. They both happen to be white
Not the drivers the cars. Oh, okay
But but I gotta tell you Doug these cars look real different very
Very different that Invista could fit inside the Chevy Suburban if nothing else the Invista has
Horizontal tail lights and the Suburban has vertical ones like you can't and also it's huge
He was standing at the rear of the car touching it like he was right there in his face
I calculated the time that he was behind
That car and it was more than five minutes that he was directly behind the Buick and Vista and yet still in a matter of
20 seconds managed to
Lose his recollection of that car and think it was a Chevy Suburban. This is why eyewitness accounts are not considered
Oh my like look I do you have bad days you get a little sleepy maybe zoned out thinking about he's gonna play Madden later or something
But like golly
So the truth of things to note the trooper was a new ish hire is about a little over a year
He had been on the force who's still on probation
and
Yeah, so he pulled out and immediately got behind the Chevy Suburban
which
Exited at the exit and was again looking for a place to pull over and
There was no place because it was like half of a shoulder and
He immediately decides that that's a time to pit the car the Suburban even though they have their blinker on and they're going 30 miles an hour
Yeah, they very clearly saw him we're trying to even on the highway as they're getting off like it's there's not a ton of space
Probably wouldn't be terribly safe, but I do think like this show. I was watching in the background here some of these
Police pursuits stuff that I found there's this a need for speed kind of stuff going on here with these like pit maneuvers and like
Multiple cops coming in it's really cool, but like that takes a level of discipline and skill that like not Joe Schmo
I started six months ago is ever gonna have
So like the fact that they allow or encourage or whatever this behavior gives it somebody like whoever this guy was that got fired
I think
Terminated he should have terminated the pursuit, but instead
His career was like why was his first reaction? I need to pit maneuver this tiny or not this tiny this this car moving slowly
They weren't speeding away. They weren't like attempting to evade like
Well, I was my already had attempted to evade but to go from like running full speed from a traffic stop to oh
They're going 30 miles an hour. This must be this like he's nothing made sense about that
The adrenaline made him lose all of the context clues and a few brain cells. I think yeah
The best comment of the video was one vehicle was an apple and the other was a banana
The funny thing is like we referenced that chase at the beginning where where a mom got
Pitted and rolled their car and I rewatched the video in this Chevy Suburban as it was passing the traffic stop was
Absolutely tailgating
Dangerously the car next to it. So in Arkansas's economy
that tailgating and not pulling over for 30 seconds after the the cops behind you is enough for them to pit you so
Yeah, you know that would have been a justified pit even if it was the wrong car based on Arkansas's
You know what I've observed of their chases, but
Anyway, he he radioed in after this that he stopped the wrong vehicle
That's not technically wrong
Technically that's one way to describe it. These comments are great though. It's like
He stood behind the car so much
He smelled a little too much of the weed that was allegedly maybe back there got a little high himself and lost sight of things
He's a sleepy. Yeah, I I respect cops a lot. I do agree. Well, I respect good cops
I respect the honorable office of
Law enforcement, even though I may think the system is broken and there's a lot of well
This comes in light of the Afro man debacle. So not all cops, but
Yeah
And I agree with police chases
I
Think they need a lot more training and this is one of those examples and even if you don't pit the wrong car
I think they need to be better at pit maneuvers because even this was not a clean pit maneuver, but
Yeah, it was
Bad idea all around he's easy for us to criticize from the bench. I personally have had pit maneuver and
Evasive
Ramming and all that stuff have had that training. So I've I've personally done them and
Had them done to me
Understand what I'm talking about more from just a theoretical perspective than most people but on the internet nothing matters
You say anybody's wrong or right or whatever and you're just the idiot
But I think everybody agreed on this one that this
Dumbest mistake say I don't have that experience
I don't have that skill to pit another car and I've never been pitted myself
But I do have the the problem-solving experience to know that this wasn't a situation that required such escalation
So I think that means I'm qualified
I think we're all qualified to tell the difference between a Buick and Vista and a Chevy Suburban
speaking of Chevy's the Corvette Kermodgen we
Covered a Corvette C8 Boomer board a while ago
That was pretty hilarious for those of you
Though don't know Boomer boards are the things at car shows where people print out their specs or how rare their car is or other
Stuff that really nobody needs to know it's all the insignificant details
That people paid to put on a giant display
But we missed something on our Corvette C8 Boomer board
We were so focused on the fact that it was described as an eight-speed CVT
Which Corvettes don't have
That we forgot imagine a Corvette with a CVT though. It'd be so just like all the time almost as bad as a
Just an automatic
Corvette
They feel like a CVT like the old C6 C5 torque converter automatics
But we didn't even notice at the bottom it was credited as being quote-unquote designed by the owner's son
Was the owner son somebody that worked at GM. No
Okay, no apparently checking boxes on an order sheet now qualifies people as a car designer to that end
People are just as if not more guilty
Because at the works reunion in Amelia Island, which is their Porsche show
I came across a GT3 RS, which is CXX Sonder one
blah blah blah
Was it a 992 it is a 992 of course
and
It's a different color than most it's blue with white script and it has
Whatever, but they had two ginormous like four to five foot high
posterboards on the ground
The making of our Sonder once GT3 RS the concept round two interior details round three exterior details round four
livery design
Guys you're speckin out at Dankar you're going to the Porsche dealer and maybe you're calling up some contacts at Porsche
But like everybody does it
Like it's this is not a thing. That's worthy
Just just can we can we stop with the Boomer Boards?
Also, can we stop with like acting as if a 992 RS is like
Rare it's not rare like I'm sure it's a fantastic vehicle like I'm not oh my gosh
I'm not sure denying that but like I it doesn't make you special because you have one is the problem
I think that is what drives the desire for
The unique specs because they make a million Corvette's right and people buy what they think is a special car
But then they go oh five thousand other people also bought a 992 GT3 RS
Mine has to be more special than the rest so when I'm parked next to seven of them at cars and coffee
I can say well mines paint a sample
Mine is too. Well, I got Sonder one CXX interior
Well, that's what it's gotten to now because there's more there was a stat at some point
I think it was for the 991s that there was more PTS like RS is then non
PTS so like
Having a normal color. I forget the exact stat or what generation or if it was an RS or just the GT3
But either way there was a line of Porsches
Where it was more common to have a or less common to have a color out of the book than it was to have a pts
I may have just like made that up as as a joke at some point you're remembering
Oh, I swear it was a real thing that was quoted as a statistic because I have I have alleged that many times in the past
Accidentally quoting dog is what is true is I think on the GT4 RS and
probably the three RS's and stuff too is that
95% of them were produced with a visock package so it's more rare to have less options and
In 50 years that will be a thing just like a sunroof delete
Not early 9-11 is a big deal now because it's rare
Imagine two identical vehicles same year mileage options color and price the only difference
One of them had $15,000 in collision repairs
Which one would you buy the undamaged one of course because a clean vehicle history preserves value
That's what diminished value is the loss in your vehicle's value after an accident
Even if it's repaired perfectly

I read an article this week that made my soul hurt, but it's kind of funny at the same time
This is from trans alt
Dot org transportation alternatives
There's four other articles that address this one, but we're gonna mostly quote from this this is
Man, okay, we're just gonna get right into the headline
Like shooting a gun into a crowd just ten drivers threatened two and a half million New Yorkers
According to new data from transportation alternatives and families for safe streets
What could this be? That's the old speed kills mantra
Okay in 2025 the top 10 super speeders in New York State were caught by New York City's schools own speed cameras on average
179 times each which is at least once every other day with the most reckless driver
receiving 259 tickets
according to trans alt
Dot org this just
I first of all terrible title. It's a paragraph. Come on. Hook me get me in here with something
but this reads like a Facebook post in a local community group by some
Middle-aged person that doesn't understand statistics seeing a chart that scared them and trying to share that news with their neighbors
Like what is this? There's no way
Okay, well what but statistics Philip
Miats Kowski the senior director of research and policy at transportation alternatives is quoted in here
So oh from the people that wrote this
Yes, he made up the statistics. Well, no, they're quoting studies here. Now. I don't know what studies
But but let's let's look at this because they do have quite a bit of data in here
And what is fun is they listed the ten
Vehicles and their license plate numbers that were the top ten most cited
For being caught by speed cameras another channel like so basically what they're saying is these ten people are terrorizing our neighborhoods
They're responsible for you know
Being just incredibly dangerous. It's only a matter of time before they kill someone's loved one
Let's look at all these stats and it's how do they still have their license the the number one speeder is paid over
$60,000 in fines
The news story would be oh, they didn't pay any of their fines, but these guys are they're actually paying them
Except the Malibu. Yeah, of course
Surprisingly there are no ultimas on this list
But let's look at their stats because they are
Trying to pass new laws as a result of this
inflammatory and sensationalized news story
Just claiming that that these reckless drivers are a menace to New York City and
They want to pass a super speeders bill or a stop super speeders bill
Which I don't like the terminology right off the bat super speeders refers to a
term in Georgia and in Florida
For drivers going more than 20 over or more. I think it's 30 over in Georgia or more than a hundred miles an hour
Total these are not super speeders. These are people who are getting ticketed in school zones by automated cameras
The automated cameras trigger at 11 miles an hour over the speed limit
Now the speed limit in most New York City boroughs is 25 miles an hour these schools on speed limit is a measly 15
I can run that fast. I
Can run that fast
Maybe still I used to be able to run faster
So that means that in theory the people getting all these tickets are going
One to two miles an hour over the normal speed limit just happens to be during
school zone hours
Which you can get all mad about that
But we all know how many times do we pass school zones when there's nobody around New York City schools are different because it's like
You don't have as many buses and stuff like kids are actually walking around
It's not like our you know suburban schools where the schools half a mile from the road and stuff
But anyway, I digress
teacher kids not to run out in the road
So
Assuming that these people are being reckless is kind of ridiculous when they could literally be driving 27 miles an hour
But they have they have some stats. They have some stats
The stat here says okay the the
Senior Director of Research and Policy is quoted as saying that the data shows that a driver with 44 speed camera tickets is
725 times more likely to kill or seriously injure a fellow New Yorker
725 times
So let's look at this because
Later on down the article
They say
And this is in trying to the proponents of this super speeder bill quote these
Stats vehicles with 16 speeding violations are twice as likely to be involved in a crash that leads to a fatality or serious injury
Vehicles with 30 speeding violations are more than 50 times more likely
Speed limiters are evidence-backed technology employed in the US and around the world to simply and easily prevent the danger
Okay
so if we argue with this we are arguing with the
Unimpeachable moral argument of safetyism right the stats are right here, but they're not eating equals more crashes
There's not they so they have a thing done at the bottom of the article that says methodology where ideally you would hope that they would explain
How they came up with these figures the studies they referenced and there's nothing it just says we pulled data from New York
City databases and use the license and like we only
Captured people that have New York state driver's licenses
That's it
But there's nothing to show how they came up with these data points or how large their sample size was or any sort of effort to
Validate these ridiculous claims. They're just saying look over here big scary thing
Okay, but he's a senior director of research and policy
Yep, so this website. Okay, fine. So let's let's look at his numbers Tyler. What did we come up with?
so
Look, I took math classes a long time ago. I
Know there's a way to figure this out, but I couldn't remember and our technical advisor was not here yet
So we took a couple of different ways and we asked to the AI we asked chat jippity
Based on this limited data set give us a formula where we can trend the line
To figure out for this. What was it the 259? Yes, the number one speeder is
259 tickets it is a
2023
Audi a6 and we wanted to know based on these statistics in this article an
Estimation of how many times more likely they are to cause an injury in a crash or cause a crash there that causes an injury
Whatever there, that's correct their thing was so at first when you take all three data points. It's exponential
Obviously 16 to 2 30 to 50 44 to 725 you can only get there with exponents. I think
So we asked the the jippity to come up with an exponential formula based on those points
And so it came out with something that kind of matched for the first couple of numbers and then went to some
Bananas sectillion times 33 sextillion times more likely if you have 259 speed camera violations based on those three data points that they gave
Yes, so it can't be that no, so we're like, okay. What's what's another angle? So we thought okay, maybe the 44 to 725
A metric because it's elsewhere in the article is a different data set or a different view into the data
So let's do a linear equation
From the first two points and that gave us an equation that ended up with 98 times
More likely to cause a crash which causes an industry with 44 tickets, which no, I think it was 98
Oh, what did I say thousand? No, this one was just 98. This was the linear 44 tickets
Extrapolated to 259
Still a big number wasn't that that was
Only three sextillion, right and then you did the quadratic
Yes, the quadratic is I think the one that we actually landed on well
We'll have Ethan put something up where he kind of bet with an Excel sheet that very conservative numbers on this one
I like the quadratic because it feels more
Not real. I'm not gonna say that it feels more grounded in whatever reality
They're talking about in this article
So this quadratic function that the jippity came up with ended up with, you know, two times more likely
51 times more likely so really close 727 times more likely as you go down the 16 to 30 to 44 number of tickets and
Then for 259 they came up with a little bit of a rounding
90,000 times more likely to cause a crash which causes an injury
Which is in that number while it feels more grounded in this
Fake reality is still insane. How do you even like how can what does that even mean?
Well, the the only way to get there is if you assume
That we're basing this off people with zero tickets
So then you would have to basically say okay in order to get to 90,000 times more likely because the average driver
Has a certain likelihood. I believe it's one
in
366 likelihood of being in an accident
For per 1,000 miles driven so the stats are out there just based on the number of miles driven per year
In total in America and the number of accidents. That's easy math. Those stats are are there for anyone to pull from
Now what is the average driver?
Well, the stats also say that about 50% of the time people are going at least 10 miles an hour over the speed limit
so if we say okay, well if they're basing this number off of only drivers who don't speed and
The 50% of the time that people are speeding
They are 90,000 times more likely to get in crashes
Then you'd basically have to work backwards and say okay
Well the people who aren't speeding essentially have a zero point zero zero zero zero zero zero one percent
Chance of getting in a crash like that the math just can't work because there's only six million accidents per year
so
You'd basically have to say that everybody speeding is only the ones getting in the accidents if they're 90,000 times more likely and
That can't be because only about 25% of accidents are speed related so we can't get there
But let's go back to their stats. Let's just assume they're they're for real and
Extrapolate them out because they're basically saying all these 10 people are just eventually going to kill somebody
Well based on their numbers and I went even more conservative. I literally just took the
research director's number of
A guy with 44 tickets is 725 times more likely and I just did a straight linear one too
Okay, if you have 259 tickets you are then
4,267 times more likely to be in an injury causing accident
So
Let's see this other stat website also states that speeding more than 10 p.m
10 miles an hour over the limit only increases your risk of an accident by 9% so we've got 9%
4,267 I
Think one's right and what's one's wrong, but 4,267
Let's see the average driver
Experiences three to four auto collisions in their lifetime
But let's cut that in half because half of the drivers are speeding so let's say the average non-speeder gets in
Two auto collisions in their lifetime. So this number one speeder should get in approximately
8,500 accidents in their lifetime a
Third of those will be injury causing because out of the six million accidents. There's approximately two million injuries
Per year now, of course, some of them have multiple injuries, whatever. We can't get that number exact
But let's at least be fair to the data. We know
So
Let's see
Going back to the numbers that the senior director of research and policy quoted that means that this
Audi drivers odds of an accident in a thousand miles is five and a half to one
So they would it being an injury causing accident every
180 miles
And
This is using the most conservative number
4,267 if we use any of the other formulas they be getting in an accident like every time they left the house
Here's the fun part about it the number one
vehicle
For all these tickets which is supposedly a menace to society 25,000 miles on the car zero accidents clean car facts
Never been in an accident
The number two vehicle has been in two accidents the number three vehicle again clean car facts zero accidents
Something tells me their stats are a little bit off
Well, and I think something that hopefully has been apparent is none of the numbers that we have pulled
Are we're really intending to be like this is the real number
We're using these like different ways of looking at this data to show that they obviously have a calculation that they've not shared with
Us that is probably more complicated than what I asked the LLM to come up with
But either way something is just off something isn't right
And I feel like I would before I would trust any of this information any of these stats
I would want to know how they actually got here. I would even even
725 times more likely if we throw the formulas out and just say this car is
725 times more likely to be in an accident. It just doesn't work. It can't be
Yeah, and based on also more likely than what somebody who doesn't drive somebody who doesn't speed
Maybe that's their intention is somebody that doesn't speed, but I
Got it. I don't
Anyway, this is why I keep going back and pushing back against the narrative that speed kills is because the stats that there's an old saying
Statistics never lie, but liars use statistics. Yeah, although I think these statistics are just bad
Statistics, I don't know how they came to these numbers, but they're ridiculous
However, if you're interested in owning one of these vehicles
That's infamous the number three vehicle, which is a ram 1500 which should come as no surprise to a lot of people
There's two rams on this top 10 list the number three vehicle is currently for sale at power
Motor group if anyone wants to have a nice X super speed or infamous vehicle and that one also has a clean car fax
now of course
their their way that they caught all these drivers is
Through their license plates. Oh the license plate reader
busting them for
going over the speed limit and
That brings us to our plate to sample game, which is where we find great vanity plates and
Then read them off to the other person and see if they can guess them
Unfortunately, none of the top 10 drivers
I should top 10 the top 10 speeders the bottom 10
According to New York City, none of the top 10 drivers had vanity plates
Which is a real bummer that could have made some some interesting content, but they didn't but we have vanity plates for
The other person to guess so this is a wildly popular game if you'd like to submit your own vanity plate and get credit
You can do so switch cast dot live
Yeah, or send to my Instagram switch cast alive. I'll go to Tyler and
Yeah, so we've got some good submissions this week Tyler do kick it off
Can you stump your co-host? Oh with the plate to sample game? I hope so this comes from Ian M
Submitted through switch cast dot live wild and out

Not quite not quite. Would you like my hint yet?
Yes, it is a
Code that you would get with a code reader. Oh
Throw a check engine. Is that a catalyst efficiency code? I don't I I think the code is a misfire
Is that a Porsche? I think it's a misfire due to catalyst efficiency, which can be triggered by bore scoring issues
Is that a Porsche 987 997 996 you are
Unbelievably close, but like wrong country
Okay, then I don't know it is a Subaru in present
Man, you're all super tonight. Yeah. Yeah, that wasn't I love that play

Coolant in it as an air-cooled Porsche. Oh
Which is none for those of you keeping track at home unless you consider the oil and all the oil is cooling
But it's not coolant
What else could be is it like a bug like what else has a an air-cooled engine? It's not a Tatra is

Crisis one was a C4. I guess so. I don't know. I love your train of thought though that crisis two is
Yeah, it's a name track in the other direction, but it's all right. Well crisis three will be a Bentley GTC
All right, here we go this one

Gonna get
Listen, I've only seen half the movie
It was about as successful in my mind as the DeLorean itself
Look those movies are fantastic
Okay, so good the best movies ever so that's insane
I should have not seen back to the future and its entirety
I watched the third one before any of the others as a kid because I liked trains a lot
So my parents showed me the third one because there's a train in it significantly
It was like a whole world opened up and they're like there's two other movies, and I was like what?
Hey YouTube, what are your thoughts on Doug not having seen the entire the effect of the future?

Just the stuff we can talk about the random stuff that doesn't have to be a main topic or fit into the YouTube video whatever
It's just a good time to hang out. Yes, so I light up this cigar. I've been trying to buy some go for it
Go for it. I've been trying to buy some cars lately
I mean always for the business. I was I think that's kind of your job, bro. Yes. It is my job. Okay, but
Some fun ones lately
Some personal ones. Yes. Yes that too that too
One of which I'm picking up Thursday
I'm gonna get the vanity plate as soon as I can so we can use it
That one trying to keep this dang secret is very hard. I can't make any social media posts
I can't do anything you all might see it. Oh, I can't wait cuz you want to try to trip me up and plate to sample
Yes, I'm so honored that I want to see what your nerd level is of knowing what this car is because I have I
Don't consider myself a car expert. There's so much. I don't
know
and
This is one of those things I
I
Think Dan Doucette knows more than you might get this
I'm not sure if I even ran this by him or not, which I will ask him cuz he doesn't
Officially play the plate to sample game, but he also has to keep it a secret
I've run this by a lot of car nerds and only a couple were like, yeah, I think I know what that is. I
Before you give me the plate or are you just gonna throw it out?
I'm just gonna throw it out. Oh man, and then tell you the story. What if I tell you like a horrible thing?
I don't I'm sometimes rude
I don't have a paint to sample car with a boomer board that I show off at car shows
I am literally not concerned with what other people think that's true
I loved blue car, but you're on the internet people did it. Okay, but
Yeah, I am
One of the fun cars I've tried to buy this week was an Eson Ultima
Yes, and not just any Ultima so I was
Driving somewhere with a friend of mine who runs a Bert Davidson. He's been on the podcast multiple times
He runs deal automotive group
How much of a whiskey view has none
So he starts telling me about this Nissan Ultima that's on their books
For like 500 bucks, but it's been on their books for like two years because we were talking about turn time
Hmm, and he's like what what is this car still doing on our books, which the last time that scenario happened
I bought a Corvette C6 RS from the owner of go daddy because he was wondering why that car was
That's a way better. She it really isn't though. This is way more fun
So
He's like what what is up with this car?
So he calls into his office and they go we don't have a title for it
So we can't do anything with it
And instantly my ears perked up because I'm like ooh no title Ultima the things I could do with this like the cheap car
Challenge that we did last year went all the racetracks and stuff. I'm like man. I got a dealer tag
I can figure this out. I can bill sale do another state or I can just put like expired temp tags on it
That won't that'll look normal. Every other Ultima has expired that tags camouflage blend in, right?
Yeah
I'm one of you tint the windows out get those like weed scented exhaust pipe
Centers, you know and put a donut on one of the front wheels. Yes
so turns out that
The reason they didn't have the title is because it was originally owned by a drug lord and
It was like a small time one. I guess if they had an apparently a small time one
it was seized by the sheriff's department police department whatever law enforcement authorities civil asset forfeiture and
They were going to wholesale it send it to the crusher whatever they were gonna do and
The narc officer there was like hey whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. This car is perfect
For undercover because it's a beat-up tinted out Ultima like this. This is great
I'm totally gonna use this for my undercover car
So he used it for a number of years and then traded it in to the dealership on like a Jeep or something like that
But there was no title for yeah, because why would they need a title? He had cop plates on it. They had seized it whatever and
So this car was on their books forever, and I'm like I have to have this car
I have to have it name your price as long as it's not more than
$1,000 name your price as long as it's reasonable. I'm gonna give you a blank check. There's very little money in the account
But it's a blank check
Well, I found out that about a month ago
I found out yesterday that about a month ago
They did actually wholesale the car out or send it to auction or scrappy art or something like that
But because there was no title it had not been cleared from their books
So the car was just sitting there
So sad so sad so sad
That is not the strangest car that I've tried to buy this week though
And by the time this airs I will have completed the deal
But I get called out to appraise or inspect a number of multi-vehicle collections
And they run the gamut from amazing to strange and you know barn find
Elapidated moldy rusty whatever and this one collection that I got called out to see had all of the above
it went from
Really amazing collectible Ferraris to a
Moldy a suzu via cross iron man addition that I got really excited
At first because I'm like ooh, that's a cool car
I'd love to own one of these and then I got close to it and almost threw up
Interior covered in mold underneath rusted out fuel tank rust out doesn't run
So I
Wholesale that one out because I'm like it's that's not the one I want
But in this collection is
The car that I bought for myself. Let's start with that one. What do you know?
No
We bought a really really cool Aston Martin repeat in a light blue with white interior. Oh, yes, very pretty
We bought a Citroën
douche of oh
We bought a Citroën
Diane which they never brought over here. It's I've never seen another one in the US sold at all
Let's see what in the world else there's a couple really cool motorcycles
90s cool motorcycles that we're still negotiating on
There's a 2003 Viper SRT 10
Rolling chassis. Oh
Yeah, hold is the engine in whatever you bought the engine is in it
It's it looks like a complete chassis
So I pick vented the van to try to find out what was up with that car fax at first
and it was a previous total loss junk title and
I was able to pull up the photos of the salvage auction from epic van, which our affiliate link is in the show notes
And it was it looked like a header fire
Oh, it looked like both headers caught on fire and it burned a lot of the interior and you know through the hood
But it looks like everything's been repaired. There's just no body on it
And I'm like man the possibilities are endless for this
Like there's a bajillion youtubers that need a new project that need content
Yeah, I was thinking an alfa Romeo tz 3 stradale clone
Because those are built off of a Viper chassis
I think they're a gen 4 Viper chassis if I'm not mistaken. This is a gen 3, but whatever a fake one who cares
Let's see what in the world else there's a lot of oddball stuff we bought a prowler and a Chevy SSR
We bought a BMW
Isetta 600 nice, you know three-door are the limo the limo
Boy, oh boy
Let's say I feel like there's just at least one car. You're leaving out Doug. I don't we bought a
Jaguar XK8 with 130,000 miles repainted non-original color
Four liter no idea if the timing chain guides have been done or tensioners or timing chains for that matter
But hey, if it made 130,000 miles without exploding, I'll probably make it another 130 miles
Oh
Boy what in the yeah, just a hundred by yeah, that's I didn't I didn't I
Didn't misspeak there. Oh
Boy, what in the world else is this was a fun one. This was a fun one. It seems that's such a fun collection
It's more fun than the average to be honest because it was so weird
in some ways it was more fun other ways it was depressing because
There was a 66 Mustang that was a really really good GT 350 clone and I could tell like everything was done properly
and
They had it looked like it had been driven in salt once and then parked in an incredibly human environment
Yeah, and the whole underside was starting to rust and with those bodies like even if you don't see rust on the body
It could be rusting from the inside out. Yeah engine compartment was covered in mold
The interior was covered in mold the wheels were pitting and you could literally I took my fingers along the rockers and could scrape off
the little flex of salt
whoa
So that was like a lot of salt. Yeah, but the car was clean and
And I mean literally just looks like somebody like took a first spin on a salty road and then parked it
Like it was dry out, but yeah
So that was depressing to see stuff that had been left
In a state of disrepair like the value just like destroyed on a nice car because it wasn't stored pop properly
But then other stuff was was super nice
Let's see. Oh
1982 Maserati Quattroporte
That didn't run when parked and still doesn't
Yeah, I think that's I think that's about it
2002 Ford Thunderbird. Oh, we got like the the boomer tree or we got a boomer trio
We got the prowler the Thunderbird and the SSR. Was it what color was the Thunderbird?
Yeah, it still is the pastel yellow. Okay
Yeah, oh
Yeah, almost as good as the teal. Mm-hmm
I showed that to my fiance. She could not understand why I wanted it
So, you know
Right, I'm excited to learn what you possibly could have purchased out of a collection like this
When is it when is it is it at switch cars? Do you have possession of it?
I'm not gonna tell you okay when because I'm not gonna let you cheat. Oh, yeah
Oh, I need to drop my car off for I left something when my car was here for storage. Sorry guys
Just need to poke around a little bit. Hey is Doug around I want to say hi
Doug has such like an evil laugh and smirk right now. I know it's gonna be something really good
Let's see, I don't know if this falls under shrewd negotiator or not, but I was looking up old
Material to use that we haven't used yet and this was actually spurred
a
Cannibal friend of ours and listener of the show Joe Petrallia message me
I used to own the cars for stars dot com domain names big been wiki story about a crazy story
But his friend owned a small dealership in Arizona called cars for stars and
He had tried to buy the domain name at the time and this guy also was a domain name like squatter and
Was bummed because he's like yeah, somebody already locked up the domain name
So he never reached out to me try to buy it, but at the time
He was bummed because I had it so Joe was like man
That's a that's funny how small the world is but in searching for cars for stars trademarks
I came across this crazy crazy trademark
That is no longer, but I will pull it up if I can find it. I know I can
me one second and
I saved this thing for years and we're finally gonna make it
Make it public here. Okay, so searching for trademark conflicts
This is a
abandoned slash dead trademark
it is a
Mark drawing code is a typed drawing and is a word mark applicant is Wade Jeffrey Davis
Let's see
Quoting this directly, but I'm going to edit out the last word because even in quoting it's not appropriate
The word mark for the trademark
You don't have to follow me around the store. I'm not going to rob the store that means I want to steal your purse
That means I'm not educated. You don't trust me
You don't have to be afraid of me and driving a nice car you want to pull me over and wealthy
I must be a criminal a rapper or a sports star. That's why you don't like me. That don't mean I'm a oh
Whoo, that's what came up when searching for conflicts with cars for stars
Holy now this is not a song the type of trademark
He is applying for the goods and services are clothing namely shirts t-shirts sweatshirts wet pants shorts jackets visors vests hats and
Footwear, so he wanted to put that on clothing
Hmm. Yeah
Can see why it didn't work out too well proof
Anyway, that was that was about the craziest trademark I've ever seen and
Random way that came across it. So like I said tangentially car related

Doug, what is the pick of the week and is it maroon 4?
Yes, it is
Because maroon 4 is hot. Yeah, it is it's a 1953
pre a Porsche 356
1500 cabriolet
in
Maroon non-metallic color excellent excellent condition
Restored fairly recently and worked on by Pete's custom coach building and it is a fantastic example
A deal at only two hundred fifty thousand dollars. I love really really nice example the simplicity of the preas
They're just there and I'm it might be terrible to drive. I've never driven a 356
I would love to one day, but the visual simplicity of the 350 set preas 356 as I love
Let's see our prop of the week no our flop of the week
Um, not a lot to laugh about in this but the comments everywhere are
Dark dark humor
Hyundai stopped sales and recalls of over 69,000
2026 Palisades because the power seats can crush you. Oh
Right
So the rear seat
Uh power operated fold down
Don't detect contact with a human or object
so
They can and have crushed somebody so the most newsworthy story was in Toledo, Ohio
Fairly recently a two-year-old child was killed due to this
Issue and apparently four other injuries have been reported related to this feature
um
Yeah, the contact according to the drive.com the contact detection issue is said to be present both during
Power folding operations as well as during use of the second row one touch tilt and slide function
Which will tilt the second row seat forward while power sliding the seat forward in one motion to enable access
to the third row
Yeah
Uh
Uh
Irony and not trying to be funny here, but my reaction was oh
Self-driving cars are the future says everybody
But here hunday can't even stop their power seats
so like
Yeah, I I don't think we're there yet. I don't think we're there yet
Uh, some of the dark humor comments
probably the
uh
I don't know
the
Yeah, they're ruthless, but one of them that was a little bit lighthearted was I don't see the problem
I've spent 12 hours in a plane in the exact same position
Yep
Yep our prop of the week, um
I don't know how
Stellantis can make it into our prop of the week because they are constantly making terrible business decisions
In fact to this past week that I heard about anecdotally and didn't make notes
In the podcast notes, I specifically remember I'm like, oh man
Stellantis that's stereotypical and I didn't make notes and I forgot but I'm like
This would be great to roast them on the podcast. I didn't so instead
We're going to give them a prop because dodge is bringing the hemi v8 back for the 2026 model year
They're 392
cubic inch hemi they're putting in the derango rt
They also brought it back for the charger which was an electric vehicle
Although I think they kind of screwed up there because apparently they like didn't redesign the footwell
Which like didn't give the passenger any room because of where the battery was and then they put an engine in it but didn't move
The foot so there's just like space
Right, they probably will for the 2027 model year
So of course nobody will want the 2026 is in the future
But in like 50 years, those are going to be so expensive
So buy them now put them away shrink wrap them
Yeah, and some story will be made up. It's like, oh, well, that's because people were short back then and you know, they
Yeah, uh
So there we go. Hemi, uh, hemi's are coming back in the Stellantis products
um
street takeover thieves everywhere will rejoice because now they have
Have you ever seen an electric car at a street takeover? No, they really their entire, uh, identity was shaken
The street takeover folks. Yeah
So there we go. Thankfully they're safe again. There we go. Stellantis gets
Gets a prop they somehow managed to slide in there. So thank you all for joining us. See you in a couple weeks

About this episode
SwitchCast blends whiskey-fueled banter with deep dives into driving culture, dealer integrity, and questionable “safety” stats. The standout story is an Arkansas State Trooper fired after a PIT maneuver on the wrong vehicle—highlighting how a new hire allegedly lost track of the target and escalated when the “suspect” wasn’t even fleeing. The hosts also critique sensational New York speed-camera claims, debate manual transmission demand, roast boomer boards, and run a plate-to-sample game. Later, they share wild personal car-buying tales and discuss recalls and props/flops.
