Let's crack open some cop days before you into tonight's topic, which is the second part of our Series where we discussing the great, the great Aussie cars throughout the decades.

So we got up to the 80s, a lot. Last time you're ever gonna

finish it off with the 90s to where we are now, currently, which is, which is quite interesting.

So, we'll continue that very, very shortly.

But let's kind of just sum car updates.

Now, Tyrone you in the studio, what's happening with your end of cars? My friend, no.

I actually haven't really done anything since the last time we won. The show actually did try to do

something which totally failed not on my end, but on the product end. So normally you would think that

the red wire and black wire red is positive, black is - right.

But so anyway, so instructions were in different languages as expected construction work. I really do feel like you guys

practice. Anyways, I got up instead of

putting it to the car instead of actually doing stuff to bring trooping down wise and you know, getting to that end point.

I said, you know, I'll test it directly on the battery end first. So connected, red, to Positive,

Black to negative and boom, sort of puff of smoke coming out of this thing. It was out of a out of a relay

box anyway. So I'm like, okay, pull it

apart. Once crew was like, Super, I

don't know what they do, but they're super glued it or I don't know what that did was like stuck in there.

Couldn't get it out. So basically the room, the head

of that don't have to, like, rip open the box because any by this point in time, I really need is not gonna work.

So it's really had us already smart comment that some like yeah you know I'm just going to rip the walks.

I've been ripped the box, I've been and I check on the PCB board and the black wire is connected to positive.

The red wire is connected to negative on the actual Pacey be bored. I'm like, see what Y what is for

is this really the screen you got?

No, it's for its for push that. Okay, that's so weird.

Do you? Exactly and then I see the

instruction and on read the instructions.

And on the instruction said there, connect the black wire to the negative part of the body, you know?

And but the black wire is actually the positive positive on the thing. And anyway I sent the guy, they

a synagogue, a screen shot of the actual instruction then I send him to screenshot of the PCB board and he's like you guys. Yeah guys are that's weird.

I get is I don't know why it happens.

I sent him yet. Another one anyway, So that's

coming out. So before I actually do it

directly to open up the board and secret or riddle is actually connected properly, and then I'm gonna run it because after that, when I connect to the right way, obviously the LED of the Bush shot lit up but the the capacitor is going.

So I can say that at all, but anybody sending out a new one, so we'll see when that are odds. But other than that I've

actually started to do that. Yesterday could also have

blow-up of lucky egg, right? So have to put back everything,

put back all the stood underneath of the steering column with everything. Put all that back up together

and then yeah. But other than that yeah,

probably on Saturday early in the morning.

Probably take it to the exhaust shop to get the exhaust period a bit firmer, don't L say? Cuz at moment when he hit a bit

of hard and bump in the road in, he's hitting the bottom of the bottom of the chassis. So but we go and get that done

on Saturday. But other than that.

Yeah, just waiting on some other few things to arrive.

English, so it was making push start buttons for some for an Aussie car. This is dedicated for the xr6 is

just a generic and brand generic, I'm Brendan one.

But it's got its got photo says there's obviously there's a black border then it's talking about a green wire when there is no green wire on the the actual, the actual, really your problem unless the attraction start with my.

basically to bypass the security of.

bypassing that. Yeah I mean I can't do it by

bypassing. I can get the security flushed

out of the ECU but then you lose everything.

that, you know. But you risking any have this?

It was like so that they brought it out in the GT living was like, this is the best silliest design ever.

I know, then on the typhoon, it was like great car, but the stupid push button starts back like it's every review.

Every review said it aloud like what's the point of putting the key? And then pressing the button, it

says there's no point. The only thing I can see out of

it, which I've actually read up is sometimes when you go to to crank the kind with a normal with an old key, It sometimes doesn't if you've got obviously a faulty, if the ignition fails on the barrel, it sometimes doesn't reach that point to, to create the car over then I think if some of the physical that issue and I don't want to fix the barrel, then if you at least can get it to the on position and then push the push to the right, you'll get the crank, you'll get the car to crank over, so it can come in handy if the push.

Yeah, you know, we really need a remote for your kind of stereo when you can actually just reach through a mountain, adjust it because it's the David, it's for the when you've got your boot open at the car me and you have to show you, I must go to the wrong Solutions. call it a fake key / switch, kind of mechanism where you turn it and just like, If you have a key in there, and that's what starts car is, just the keys in your pocket, which I get.

I've got to say, I've never driven one before and yeah, that's a great little car. My memory of the the F into s

was that they were really. I found a little bit harsh and

revi and, you know, plasticky and horrible but the ep-3 I think it's more. I think it's, I think I enjoy

that a lot more than they even to from the point of view that it feels more like a like an earlier Civic I suppose.

But just with that lovely K20 engine and 6-speed manual and VTEC comes on hot and strong like it should in that little car but it's not about 120,000 ches but yeah it's a lot of fun.

So I'm enjoying that. Absolutely.

So how are you finding it there? It on the ticket, like, you've

read it out or I haven't been, I haven't taken it on enough and the country yet, which I'm planning to do this weekend and give it a bit of a run on some roads where you can wring it out a bit more rather than around town.

But yeah, well, you've got a speed limit of 0 to 60 or 0 to 80. There's no no rules about how

quickly you get there is there. It's just scary Keiko, go above

it, so that it's been a lot of fun.

Not too many updates. For me, I did polish, my dad's

Falcons headlights, decided to clean those up there with their very yellow. I thought, you know, they pretty

unroadworthy should probably cleaned up for you, it's fine.

He totally looks fine but because he did change it both apocalypse. If they would just just old and

worn out and I think one of the gone, he didn't notice it and the second one is gone. He didn't notice it again.

The the Glut, which I had already changed.

I didn't come on. I thought they might have been

simple. Electrical issue that was user I

didn't put in properly. Once again, you know, I'm going

to afford quality and its use and I had at the time which probably but we go, we got it all fixed up.

I got the hell as polished and put a little.

I think I got the Maguire's kit with the extra seal spray.

I think I made some runs in there but it's better than it was before and that's all that matters, which I'm happy about, you know, we could fix a car for the old man.

They've decided to gather before another $100, they gave you a ring, they said ah Supply that we go on.

discs and pads for the Subaru. It's overdue while the discs are

overdue, but if I'm changing the road, as I just did the pads at the same time, anyway, nice and easy.

And the right road is now, pardon are they the right rotors? Now, these rotors are

correctamundo because I've bought these ones before I was going to do. I think I mentioned I was going

to do the The wheel bearings. But I need a press and

everything for this kit. So I'll just take it to someone

to do it and I'm going to stuff around.

Yeah. Like me spending you know,

couple hundred dollars to get a press and things like that just to use it once. So no point not just get someone

to do that over the holidays and a coming up.

I gave my partners I'm done for. So for the, for the hard work

is, I am cleaned my partner's. Honda Insight gave it a good

wash. Jeez, that looks good.

been serviced. Always vital under worked for.

Yeah, it's probably xr6 and the pan code and then I looked into the glove box and it's sticker in.

put them in there, which is, which is weird.

and I put the key. Between the seats doing that.

So I mean, they do and you got to put in Reverse to our to get the key out and so yeah, I don't think I mentioned that with that Honda Insight at one point not that long ago.

I did change the discs and pads on it too, that was nice and easy. So, you know, just simple jobs

that you can do it yourself and save, you, lots of money because Honda wanted quite a bit to do this job.

Surprising our, I did it in no time.

How's the Battery going in there.

Seems to be fine. Honda haven't mentioned anything

about it. So so you still get booty, still

get assist. Plenty of assist on the, as you

driving. Yeah, that's good.

Yeah, yeah, it's pretty good. Even for CVT at some, it goes

pretty well. I've referred to as the first

year and he loves to feel around with it because he's better.

He's sort of got out to lunch pretty well.

Yeah, 2001 might be anyway. It was a very early, one of the

54 they sold or however many but because all the batteries in the in the Box are actually 5 D cell, batteries welded together, so that makes the sticks. And I think there's 20 of those

sticks in the in the battery box itself.

The and watching a bikes as well as some good action and the atmosphere was fantastic, a lot of people out there so that was awesome. Camped out for about three odd

nights. So that was cold at night time,

12. Maybe 400 kilometers.

A lot of retirees riding their Adventure bikes from all parts of Australia from Tasmania. Nia / Hamilton Tamworth to Gold

Coast Brisbane then so on. So there's a lot of people put

up and up with German tourist, a husband and wife in their early 30s on dir 400s. Do on all the Outback on their

motorbikes. Wow.

So it was pretty good to see though.

It was a good event, a good Adventure it.

So that was that then I came back.

On the Wednesday and on Thursday night someone was loitering around our cars. Going to driveway say they try

to open up the door in a Mustang which was locked the alarm didn't go off, they tried the Mercedes.

It was only when they got to the Tesla that they started running when the interior lights come on.

And the I saw the flashing on the dash and the headlights come on that. They actually then quickly

walked away from the cars but we've got the video footage.

Through to Tesla and that was real good footage, the place quite like that footage. Yeah, so that was pretty

exciting, but the least I'll have a scant was tucked away nicely in the garage, so that wasn't touched.

break into cars, two sleeping cars, It's so from the street and up sleeping in the car. Yeah, so it happens.

So it's in oil and weird and I don't know how I feel about that. So I was like I was happy that

my car's got a chain but then I have found out that certain models of the car have a wet timing belt.

We're not talking about bit like a wit.

Built as a as an oil pump kind of kind of belt.

So it's they all different was a good VIN code.

So I call my dealer module is finding out for me.

He's like look at it, shouldn't affect the car anyway like there. Yeah, it's only just just

turning and turning a belt, it's not really turning in.

It's only turning a pumped, I'm really turning anything else, but I'm just a bit by bit. If you about you-know-what word

belts, I think, I think they're not a great great thing but look We'll see how it will see what they come back with.

And but yeah, as long as I got a timing chain, for the most part, I'm, I'm kind of happy and, and from all the cares of people have done over 100,000 case on those engines so far, never had it never had an issue. So that's, that's a good.

That's a good, that's a good sign.

So there's Australian cars that we think, you know, really that kind of influenced Australian car culture.

Well, we like Robins p76, but From the nineties in the nineties was an interesting time because the late 80s I thought cars kind of from the late 80s. What from the 80s in general?

Really for me too late 80s, kind of Drive similar to held cars drive today like like the, you know, them all got similar features, cruise control your power, windows, Etc, all that stuff, which was quite common in cars, even even back then later.

They drive quite similar to how a car drive stay Having said that though, Australian cars, I thought it was a bit of a dark time in the late 80s to early 90s because we produced cars like that were very, very rushed like the VN Commodore any a falcon which were, which were not fondly remembered for their build quality. And and there are then their

longevity despite the fact that the the the V6 was opposed from an old from an old engine, like the The rest of the car wasn't great. Same thing with the forward but

about any of the cars even though even in Toyotas.

So I don't think they'll that Chris, everybody's no, actually, I actually work for Toyota back in the 90s.

Okay, I believe that they were building cars.

Make a rust Had trust issues in certain parts through gutters and various other bits and pieces, that do the Toyotas did.

They had a lot of, I think, production issues which was closely managed for equality, but they had a lot of production issues, with a lot of the engines.

They had casting issues, they had clutch issues with the clutches, shuttering and stuff like that.

So the cars weren't Anything special mine even back then at order a Toyota Seeker. Yeah.

Air conditioning was optional and they fit it in the workshop.

Yeah. Coming to be box.

It came in a box. Yeah, there was nothing good

about anything. I don't think it even the

European cars weren't all that crash shot its duties and walk ensures beer that Joe background.

Any of the performance cars? I think a lot of people are

pretty disappointed with some of their cars as well.

They weren't really pumping out too much power.

plant and the Press plant back in the 90s.

Yeah. It wasn't until I think the

2000s late 90's early 2000's, when they started production of the cars, Like the actual cameras online.

Melbourne shutdown, Dandenong. And so on.

Yeah, yeah. So that making the v6s for the

I think back in or a big thing. So the Crawlers were assembled

at dad, and I like the whole with a I believe.

Then 200 to 250 a day. Yep.

And that was pretty good. So I used to actually get on the

engine engine line and then basically, Take some Pistons off the line. Well, actually, we actually made

a Pistons, actually, with a machine and I'll take him out of there. And actually measure up the CC

two, heads measure, the Pistons, frivolity surface roughness, and everything else mentioned that measure the gudgeons to make sure all the dimensions were right from the data points to make sure the data points were correct.

Take a block off the line. Chop up the block to make sure

all the oil galleries or write things like that.

So we used to do quite a bit of District quality control in the body measuring air. Yeah, and then we had a diner

right next door to our department so they'll basically test run a motor until it basically died and they'll run it dry of oil and all sorts of things run it hot with no water and see how long they last and what happens to them and so on and so on and it's very top Kira here.

Yeah it was good. So a so it was pretty

interesting it was good good time as a people of great great place to work and here I got On you buddy over here but yeah, it do tough time. Something back in the 90s with a

government with drawing a lot of the support and funding a lot of strikes at the time. A lot of time off between out

there between yeah jobs I suppose and there are a lot of redundancies back in the 90s as well within the engine old motor industry will stop. Yeah.

I think there was a lot of turmoil in the 90s and hence probably the reason why some of the cars weren't all that great shot. I think to, for Australian

manufacturing, we sort of had the button plan, sort of remnants from the 80s and that model sharing between the Nobles and the Crawlers, and the pin towers and the corsairs, and, you know, missing their, you said all those sorts of things are. We're sort of a almost a cynical

time I think too. For a lot of a lot of local

manufactured around the automotive industry.

I mean, there was some, there was some gems that sort of a movie, but should I mean the, when they started slowing, Only the twin cam engines into the Crawlers.

They produced that was a pretty cool little Jigger the Essex carollers? Yeah, quick quick.

Oh yeah, great little car. So there were some lights on the

way I think to is they defer the developed, the, the eea and the VN sort of end of the nineties at those cars improved over times and with each sort of successive facelift and stuff.

Whenever I drive like the LTD and I drove it back to back with the AFX. Alright that we've got in the

family now that's on the same virtually on the same, kind of platform where it is. The same platform.

Is he a good platform? It was, it's chalk and cheese

like they drive completely different like you can see how much time and effort that and development.

They put into that car with with time, which is which is quite interesting to see like they kind of rotate really tried hard to right their wrongs and you're in the early nineties and stuff and Men early to mid 90s, Put it this way, you just getting back to your player Rob. With, with a strong performance

cars, they weren't really fast. WRX is, were walking away from

cops. So what did they do?

They want to build WRX is the kid to keep up.

So, and then that is a hand on heart.

were some gems were and they started to get good towards the mid to late. Like I'd say 94, 93 94 on would

stake started to get a little bit better but any in particular so you said yes, Corolla day with any James that you guys remember fondly from the 90s. But we also joined, by the way,

I was going to say like for doing weird things, they did the EB GT which never really made the esteemed Turner kilowatts, but they release the car as and that we know as the Ed accelerates print, which had that which was virtually a JT you just with no, none of the extra body cladding and all that extra weight. So was actually the better car

to drive lighter in. And, and that's just so that was

kind of a highlight for them. I think holding had the taxi

look alike but performance performance car, which was the the the gts-r which is very yellow, put it that way.

And they only came in yellow which was which was kind of a cool thing. But the group a as well, which

was cool. But Toyota was really big on

their wide body camera that when that when that first happened, all the big wide body come in and take it up to you and to the, to the Earth to the other people.

But that at that along with the the No, which the Magna Carta of kind of grew that instead of being the boxy, kind of designed by a ruler shape from the, from the 80s.

They really went into into into roundness, and a lot of ways Looking Back. Now, I think that that magnitude

aged quite well, I think it's actually quite a good-looking car now. So, those three were quite

impressive. So that those losses were, were

quite impressive for what they offered.

And, and you couldn't, you couldn't get a 4 cylinder in the be in the big Falcon and Amador. So you could argue who but you

could get in a in a magnet and you could get it in a, you know, in a Camry which I think helped them have a lot of market share.

So, because people didn't need the need of E6, and when you draw them, they don't slow. Then we're not done at the not

fast, but they were, they were at the end.

There were okay, the V6 is that were available in that Toyota and the Mitsubishi's, at the time, we're very refined engines. I mean, they left them for the

whole engines for dead. Really in refinement.

They did, they always drove so smooth.

I remember when we have an XF XF back in the day and they've got nicked, believe it or not, but mostly it was the most stolen car in one point in Australia. Remember well, I'm saying, oh,

did you check out? Because we, we see the Royal

order in the, in the mail, every month.

It's and she's like, she's like, she's like guess what?

My car's almost all the car. Yeah, of the lobby of the Year

this year. Like, oh great.

I thought that sounds great little legit like a week later.

from 91 and the engine was just a delight in their car.

Compared load it revved, it sounded good, it was smooth, so it was just yet, you're right, David?

It was just complete complete, utter a refinement which which which you know, the the blue oval and and and the lion didn't really didn't really have it the time.

Begin until late 90s. We got arguably, Holden's.

The is the best-selling Commodore isn't the VT, the these things. Yeah, yeah.

BT 97 which is, which is which kind of led us to the 2000s and gave us a really good-looking car, which we'll get to in a moment. But for now, interestingly,

that's, that's ridiculous. Make you feel old.

Yeah. Yeah.

That does make you feel. So they have that for Danza was

the the my Tau Falcon which which is which I think are kind of by felon because you just keeps mentioning it, will put a T5 it a lot. Well the diff dress back, you

just figure you have a good time to take a quarter and have a great time at the agency thing about the VT was that it was so successful overseas as well. And I mean, Toyota or exporting

is the Zip Cars by then to to the Middle East especially But but a very care. Well, I mean, to be she, of

course exported to America as well, but the Commodore did well in the Middle East and it did Will well, they say it's a bit like the Capri, you know, I was a bit of a failure, only sold 150,000 million cars because it's everything over there.

Is got a sill 250 million thousand but be the Pontiac GTO and the was a Sugarman beer in America as well.

I think Ink. It was never the Lumina in the

States but it was been laced actually a little easier.

Yeah, but I think think it was the UT El Camino for a while.

Well, there shouldn't with a. She never got the never got the

they announced that and then they never brought it to him.

Okay. Okay.

So there's others but there's this will cool stories about about that. Like there was like I think that

50 Cent driving out in one like to back in the day trying to say. Yeah, this is the new El Camino

and it just never happened because because I would offer It was going to take cells off their you know, their trucks because because muruga, okay freedom and bald eagles.

So I think that that's what that's what that's what they're afraid of afraid of happening. But moving on into the into the

two thousand and they are, this is what I think.

Personally, my favorite era of Australian cars of the is the is the is the Because I think they really kind of stepped up their game and they really kind of not knowing only step up their game but they they they kind of put some world-class engineering into him and and you can you can you got some really really crack it like real real good crackers which which are now very fondly remembered. So let's get into the to into

the 2000. How we mentioned earlier, the VT

Commodore now, the V2 Commodore for me as a very important car because because they produced a very famous car out of it and I think you guys know what I'm about to say.

The manaro through the Reed, the Reed rebirths manaro, which I still think is one of the best-looking Australian cards that that's been put together. It was the right size.

It's every time I turn on my camera, too.

Good-looking car. I want to get your opinion on

the menorah. General.

Here in the corner here? Yeah, absolutely sold cars.

Like, there's a reason why they love them on Top Gear, just, you know, and I've scooped big old V8.

You know, just crack griddle time like real, I think like volcanism T. It's all about, you know, having

a slap on the back, I meat pie and just Revel any up getting caught by the cops, all run away from the cops, you know, it was a good recipe. It was as good as any time and

great design. It was Mike's encoder design and

Bea a beautiful cohesive sort of great proportions to the design.

It really looked like it was, what was obviously designed as a two-door. Bit from the bottom, it was a

very well-executed design. Always thought.

It was a good-looking car and and it just it it was like a massive, welcome for Australia. I think it really put us back on

the map in terms of car design, because like every time like this is like, when you still see when you still think that's actually quite a still good looking car and it's, you know, a stock gets I was meeting point engineering, big V8 upfront, manual gearbox in the middle rear wheel drive and just, you know, just just a good time and and then they did a little work to make to make them handle quite well.

And this is where is what people don't like.

People don't really understand like because like, that shouldn't go. Around corners as well, as well

as these cars did and it was really, really good in the corners. So matter-of-fact, because that,

that for me, is one of my all-time favorite favorite Australian cars. I remember seeing what I'm

seeing one in yellow, when they first came out that I forgot for the name of like that yellow that they kind of evil and it just blew me away. I was like, this is actually,

this is so cool. Like, I remember seeing one and

and it was a CV 8 as well. So it was the V8.

Yeah, real big fan. Car.

But it also brought a time into the Holden fan.

Yeah, I've always liked the the winner.

I think that I think it was a great car and especially with the updated interior when they when they kind of had the Visa interior they they really kind of made them real real Schmick but also for Dad to do something quickly in rebuttal, to to, to the massacre. That what, your copy in the

cells, and they brought out the Be A Serial be series Falcon, which Britain you in a whole new New Engines, new IRS, new, front-end Etc. And, you know, brought along

with it, you know, the ex SX Turbo, which I think was a very influential car. It was a very important car

along with the the famous internet that came with it now.

Now it's it's very revered that engine and and with and with good reason. So that came along as also the

territory, which I think was such an important car for this country because it was the it was a homegrown SUV, it was benchmarked against the Ux5, it was, you know, it was It was kind of it was well, put together for the most part and you know, it was it got rave reviews which I, which I believe it well and truly deserved. It was the herald of the

destruction of the sorry, their station wagon.

Yeah, it was yes, yeah, absolutely.

It was like, you want you want station, wagons, not but sit higher. You buy this instead, but see, I

thought they were thinking ahead because like they realize they're losing cells to like Ruffles.

Things like will like go why don't we joining on that party?

And and and and the fact that again they still also made a territory turbo. Yeah, do you want to do

something really, really stupid? But I have to agree with you

many like the the be a falcon bring it in, you're improving on in Tech going to dual overhead cams variable.

Cam timing having, you know, like it was a nice talk.

He engine just in itself, which is, you know, nice, great.

Yeah, straight sticks for that later.

But then also having the turbo options kind of building, what is, I think, the ultimate engine Australia ever produced, you know, the, the, the power turbo is like Australia's ultimate engine, and I think it'll stay that way, obviously, because we're not making anymore. But just in terms of how to roll

how they can handle you know with stock blocks stock internals, that's something they would just, you know, a nice juicy kind of powerful car when they came out.

You know, like I said, it was for sensor to hold him like you didn't have to go with the V8. You could go as you know, a nice

straight six turbo rather than Japanese ones with your load displacement. You only had a good kind of base

with good talk and then one smooth came in, you were basically sliding around or, you know, flying away.

What else to do. So I think just end it.

They improved on the engine on over and over again to what when they had the fgx that was what three hundred and thirty-five forty-five. Yeah, yeah.

Yeah. Which is yeah, again, just roll

a car that's being sold at australian-built car, being sold to the masses. That's incredible.

How, you know, just how great time all around.

And it's sad to see that. It's kind of no longer

available, but the engines kill going strong and so many different bills. They're even people in the

states here in l.a. demelza, With his bare Mustang.

Like the fact that this is, you know, for something that way of, you know, we like to think we're a big country.

We saw as wise were pretty good, but population were very small and we never make that big of an impact, but still will have an engine that we produce to harm, that's known, even in the states as like a Performance Engine. I think that's one of the

greatest achievements we did Automotive is, well, I don't agree with you there, but I also had to the point at the point of that. I think it was like the late 90s

early 2000s. Really, really woke up

especially Be like yeah the Be Few companies here that said, we need it. We need to make cars that are

refined and we need to actually really kind of make Whirlpool class, power plants and stuff. And I remember reading the

reviews saying, this is like super suits, a super smooth engine like it's you come you can barely feel it idle.

It's very, very tactile. It's they they threw the kitchen

singer that car. And they and they, you know,

they put they produce something really, really special, which which leads me to my next car because it was you winning the territory but it relieves me to my next car of the the Orion which was basically lb V6 Camry, but not of a six cameras that make sense like they they kind of the the door wide that you know, inside the doors yet virtually camera but the front and rear end different and they just as the suspension to make it for a for our country and tone, your dad worked at a

Toyota during this time and it was a kind of a special time because I wrote it like Tod or eons and everything like that, they And that was what this they really they really want to tell David you. So that was on your list.

Why was it on your list? Ah I just think it was a they

did a lovely update with the the change.

It just shows someone who knows what they're doing, design-wise just the changes to the bumpers of the grill and that sort of thing to the Tod really gave it a real presence, 19 inch wheels and the sport suspension. They they just look so much

cooler base Orion. And they were 240 kilowatts with

the supercharger, probably? Yeah, well I'll call you.

If the loose leaves out cars bumper down, once when the orange came out, he was always, at least in the standard.

Orion sporty law, or anything like that, and the TRD came out and then he went for six months with that, with the TRD option.

And I drove it and yeah, it was crazy.

Yeah, there's a lot comfortable, and yeah.

Look more doing. But yeah they they soon they

didn't make many of those didn't win last year.

I don't know if it's good. Actually what shape it I think I

think probably with the HSV the time in the light of what year did the first Orion come out to Australia because what's the matter already superseded when it when it arrived on our Shores, America had. Yeah.

If it kept, if they kept up the dead before they thought about the Orion I'm they would have had.

When that car came out, like they had a twin turbo V6.

It looked really good. And if they would have done

that, I would have probably said.

have aspired to because it look good.

It had all the Huddle, the right, the right angles.

And it was, it was a nice car. It was a really really, really

nice car. Getting back to the TRD or even

though I was only, I'd one more point.

That is a car that I think is severely underappreciated.

Like, they are ridiculously quite cheaper, what they are nobody kind of knows what they are.

It's kind of one of those guys, if you know, it's a if you know, you know, kind of car. And I think that it's a shame

because they are, there are cracking drive like there are really, really good thing. So if you can find one, get one

and hold onto it, because you will really, really enjoy it.

to mid-2000s and holding spent the it was called the billion-dollar baby. Remember, the blimp they had for

this girl, the ve Commodore came out and I was like, it was a big big thing for holding it was their kind of last hurrah, Rob's the entrance of the other, I believe was The Zeta platform where they were, they kind of threw everything that they had it and basically produce the car that That was really, really, you know, really really what class in a lot of ways and some ways it still was not ideal but they really really tried tried with that car. So I want to get your thoughts

on the VA as to how important it was and to see how that led them to the few, to the end of their of their kind of, you know, run VF is where they're nailed it. The last one everyone does so

many, you know, Our journalists and stuffs praising it?

Yeah, they finally reached it and that was it.

They reach that Pinnacle and yeah.

Unfortunately they had to fold to, you know, finally get there and make a car that was worthy against all the European cars everyone were buying it was there they got there and just sad to see you know I suppose 20 therein lies part of the problem. You know that it seemed like a

lot of the cars we've talked about o through this series thing of the v in and the XD Falcon and the first Commodores I mean they they were so well intentioned and had the potential to be great but it was only sort of four or five years down the track, you know, whether they would be through a couple of facelifts and they actually nailed it.

So you're like the early stuff so I don't know if it was a budgetary restraints. Or what?

But I mean sometimes they did come out they weren't quite as they should have been and it goes back to that old saying that you know you never buy the first of a new model.

Well I think that's the case in Australia.

Not necessarily with some of the cars from Over the city's.

Most, most of them overseas manufacturers singing to nail that. I think that is a fairly noisy

thing that the early ones. Weren't, you know, what the best

version of that? I think.

I think they were there's one exception to that for me the Series 1. Malou ideally to me looks the

best once I started going with like the nostrils and everything else for the series to. Yep, that was not doing it for

me as much as the original series 1.

Was that for me was like Peak malou, I think Peak moment.

Yeah, the VF still good looking but these, there's one more Loop. That's where it's like,

ultimately out for me, okay. And you know, I'm losses to just

a great car all around, you know, it's absolutely useless in practical way to lower unit for you.

Because you know, all you can throw on the back of the slab but it's a great time that wasn't obviously, all your bones will be broken in like being poured out of the back of the train, you'll be there. You'll be pulled over and

getting pounded, May to be on the sliding.

The ve SS, they didn't have an LS in it, did it?

It's not that it wasn't. It wasn't an LS1 or anything.

It was like a was an l98. I think it was like, it's still

allies engine, Ellis architecture.

But it's slightly different. And they took that right into VF

and then vf2 on the standard SS, then they had the LS3 and they may be tellin ya because they're pumped that 26 later from memory. Correct.

I would highly recommend those But the 2000s, the node is also saw the demise of a brand in Australia.

It was the first one to go in terms of one of the big ones to go and that was Mitsubishi and they last hurrah was the was the 380, which they really tried with that car.

It got a lot of things, right? It drove.

Well, it plenty of power and was comfortable made for our conditions, but it just never sold and they didn't sell many as we as we. Discussed previously.

But why do you think the 380 never took off?

Was it because they change the name from magnets are 380?

Or do you think they will just like, they just were not?

So, why would we go to the Mitsubishi?

It just didn't look that good, you know, it's not like an abalone or whatever. You can even build the best car

in the world in terms of reliability and all that blah, blah. I'm not that Mitsubishi's

amazing with that but it just doesn't look that good.

You know, it doesn't look like good.

People are going to buy it simple as that aspirational.

Know, exactly. 100 called Euro aspirational Car 380.

Not aspirational car. Well, your eye looks fantastic.

Not Operational car. But in many ways, a good car,

you know, Falcon GT, either x w or something, you know, the assembly area, whatever may be aspirational car for a lot of people on few really, did you think of it being a front-wheel drive, a big car at the time. People still didn't take a

lifetime to it, you know, the rubber by a holding or afford, I'm sure they had literally factor.

It's partly that you never going to get God.

Used officially, you never going to get the die-hard, hold enough. Wood buyer into a front-drive

there? There are a lot of buyers that
