In a market where there's 2.5 million electric vehicles, but still, this is going some way towards making up for the federal tax credit ending.
What's interesting is if carmakers want to be involved in the scheme, they have to match the money, pound for pound, a dollar for dollar, I should say.
And that's a really interesting way of doing it.
The carmakers themselves have skin in the game.
There is a $55,000 price cap, but no earnings price cap.
It's also for people who have never bought an EV before.
This is a scheme very much aimed, not at existing owners to thank them for their loyalty, but to get new people in electric vehicles.
Germany's car plants are tipping towards battery power.
Germany made about 4 million cars last year.
1.2 million of them were pure Bev.
Another 450,000 were plug-in hybrids as well.
And we could be heading towards 2 million plug-in vehicles made in Germany this year as well.
And what's interesting is production gets transitioned to electric vehicle.
It doesn't get moved back.
And so when a factory or a facility is moved over to pure Bev production, then that's normally that job done there.
And it's happening at an increasing pace.
Ford has taken the January sales crown off of Tesla here in the UK.
It goes forward, then BYD, then Tesla.
Monthly numbers can be up and down a bit.
Ford's selling pretty decently with their Puma Gen E.
That's their mid-20,000 car.
It used to be way overpriced.
Now it gets about £4,000 off, almost that, because they get the full government grant here.
And that makes it much more competitively priced.
Asked $30,000 for a Puma, and it's going to get out-speced every day of the week,
even by a one-year-old Tesla Model 3, just to get one of them to get a much better car.
But £25,000 or so, get some monthly offers on that,
becomes a much more attractive proposition.
The Hyundai Ioniq 3 is going to be their new mainstream compact hatchback,
borrowing a lot from the Ioniq 5.
It's got a 12-inch shorter wheelbase, 30cm shorter wheelbase,
but otherwise on the 400-volt version of their architecture, which keeps costs down,
300 miles of range, doing some Arctic testing, camouflage coming off.
So we should see some more of that very soon.
NEO is making right-hand drive fireflies in Singapore.
And they're now in the UK, by the way, and so they're right-hand drive testing.
Those NEO fireflies, a 41kWh battery, and 205 miles or 330km of WLTP range on that.
Stellantis and their Leap Motor investment is surging in Europe.
61% more sales in January compared to December.
Selling well in France, Belgium, Netherlands, a little T03 city car.
I've seen that for £12,000, $13,000 for maybe a pre-reg one here,
or one that's been sitting on a lot for a while,
or maybe a nearly new 500 miles on it or something.
Some good deals on those.
Stellantis are hitting a road block, or hitting the road bump.
I don't want to say that, speed bump.
On their battery cells for their E3008 and E5008,
their battery supplier, ACC, working through some backlogs.
If you want one of those vehicles, might be an eight-month wait on them now.
Cherry is adding another brand, following Cherry, Amoda and J.Coo,
going to Europe with their Lepus brand, or Lepas.
Lepus, they say it stands for Lepids and Passion,
and you put them together and you get a really weird name.
Did they backwood engineer that one?
I'm not so sure.
And finally, women are being left behind in the Switch to EV.
Women buy half of all new cars, but just 28% of all new electric vehicles.
The industry calling on everyone from the car makers to the Chargepoint operators
to ensure that their messaging reaches out to female buyers as well.
That's briefly.
