A plug-in hybrid is a type of car that can run on electricity and gasoline. You can charge it at home or charging stations, allowing for some driving without using gas.
Electrify America is a company that builds charging stations for electric cars. They help make it easier for people to charge their electric vehicles when they're on the road.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a new electric car from Hyundai. It's designed to be efficient and has a modern look, making it a good option for those wanting to drive an electric vehicle.
The Rivian R2 is a new electric vehicle that Rivian is planning to release. It's designed to be more affordable than their other models, making it accessible to more buyers.
High voltage technicians are experts who know how to fix electric cars. They work with the parts that use a lot of electricity to make sure everything is safe and works well.
Audi is a luxury car brand from Germany that makes high-end cars, including electric models.

It's EV News briefly for Tuesday, 27th of January, everything EV in just five minutes for fans of
this podcast that want to get up to speed nice and quickly. This is a huge story. EV
Powertrains, Pure Bev's overtook Pure Petrol last month in December. The numbers are now out for
not only the European Union, but the wider zone as well, like Britain, Norway, those countries,
the EFTA and Bev's taking 26.3 share. Pure Petrol taking a 21.7 share. Now analysts pointing
out there are some nuances in that. Some cars were reclassified as mild hybrids to kind of add a
little bit of help with the emissions and things like that. But there's no doubt about it. Petrol
and diesel were 45% a year ago. Now they're 35% combined when you add them together. It won't
long before, over the course of the year, 2026, the Pure Bev's are bigger than combustion. Combined
petrol and diesel, if you don't include some of the mild hybrid stuff, if you add together,
plug-in hybrids and Pure Bev's in Europe, it's a third of the market now last month in December.
Okay, monthly data, that's a huge milestone though. General Motors are going to fold in
Electrify America to their own charging ecosystem. And that's a good thing, because you want to be
able to turn up at a charging station, whatever it is, start the session, pay from the app,
have your routing, all that kind of stuff done. And so EA going into the GM ecosystem is a great
thing. Hyundai's got some pricing out for the Arnex 6N, starts at £65,800 here in the UK.
Rivian has narrowed down the launch dates of the R2, at least talking to local media,
speaking to the outlet WGLT on a media tour of the Illinois plant. They were told that June
is when the new R2 will start reaching customers. Now Amsterdam is moving to ban
adverts for fossil cars, also for meat as well. They look to ban adverts for things that either
high emissions causes and could possibly do you harm as well. I'm sure many people listening to
this in certain parts of the world would be horrified by that. But Amsterdam, if you travel
there after the 1st of May and you see a car advert in public, it'll be for something that
doesn't emit any emissions. I do wonder how many years it'll take for us to look back on our love
of combustion in a way that we now look back on certain things like lead in petrol or smoking or
asbestos and as time passes, we look back and we think, blimey. Okay, let's talk about used EVs.
This is a huge topic. The used EV wave is only just beginning. Data from CDK says that 2026
should see 850,000 off lease vehicles come into what is normally going to be franchise dealerships
and main dealerships that then have a whole new task of more cars coming in that are going to
need preparation and service, high voltage technicians and also appraisal and pricing
as well as discounts, residuals at so much in fluctuation, then pricing becomes a really big
issue. But for the likes of you and I, hopefully we get a good deal on a second or a third hand
EV that's still in good condition. Volkswagen of America have been pointing out that if it wasn't
for tariffs, they would have built a factory on US soil and employed ad in American jobs.
And Oliver Bloom, the boss says that it's not financially feasible where these new tariffs
on European car makers cost them 2.1 billion euros, that's 2.5 billion dollars in the first
nine months of 2025 alone. The extra burden means they can't go ahead and build a plant
as planned in America. Audi's EV design boss or Audi's overall boss of design that's been in place
since 2024 has something to say about big screens. Now this sounds like a man after my own heart.
He has said that he hopes this phase of giant screens is now coming to an end. This is,
it's not very classly, classy, it's not very timeless, is it? To have a big iPad screen on
your premium vehicle. Okay, maybe for cheaper vehicles, he says that won't be in future Audi's.
That's briefly.
