It's EV News Briefly for Thursday, November 13th.
Everything EV in less than five minutes.
If you haven't got time for the full podcast, here we go.
Ford CEO Jim Farley turning up on the Office Hours Business Edition podcast to say that when they,
a couple of years ago, took apart a Tesla Model 3 and some Chinese EVs, they were humbled.
They were humbled at Ford because they realized that they were behind the curve.
Giving one example, the wiring loom in the Mustang Mac E was 1.6 kilometers longer than competitors,
adding 70 pounds of copper and a lot more cost.
What led to Ford needing to reorganize their business.
Mercedes is renaming the EQB. It's going to be the GLB with EQ Technology.
It's a seven-seat vehicle.
The inside will look very similar to the CLA, if you've seen that with its Super Screen MBUX.
Not the Hyper Screen, but still, that's undergoing final validation,
testing in some extreme weather conditions at the moment.
That'll be a 2027 model year vehicle for the US early 2026 over here in Europe.
When that vehicle comes out, Scout Motors has named Charlotte as their global headquarters location.
The VW company creating 1,200 jobs over the next five years to support Scout Motors.
The off-road bit of VW and their new EVs and E-Revs really are going to come first, aren't they? Let's face it.
Tesla have launched a new Model Y variant in China called the Model Y Plus.
It is the rear-wheel drive version with the big battery from LG and so 821 kilometers, 510 miles.
Yeah, that's the official cycle, real world is less, but still, that's a vehicle that starts at $40,000 for fantastic efficiency on that.
The longest range Model Y ever sold, a new option for Chinese buyers.
A new accessory for Chinese buyers, Tesla launching on social media, their new vehicle to load, Adapter.
That's for the Model Y L, the long-wheelbase and the Model Y Performance.
It will come to other models you would think very soon.
This is 2.2 kilowatts of off-board power, so Tesla a little bit late to the party with vehicle to load,
but China, of course, 220 volt like here, so 220 volt at 10 amp, which is 2,200 watts or 2.2 kilowatts,
and they show this powering an electric kettle, a rice cooker and a hot pot, and this is now available in China,
which is, again, a little bit behind competitors, but fantastic to see now the official solution in China.
A very small adapter, by the way, very svelte looking little thing to get to, to plug your devices into your Tesla Model Y.
Volkswagen's ID.4 and ID.Buzz finally get access to the supercharger network in North America.
This is a long time coming, meant to be March, then it was June, and now what, are we almost the end of the year?
But you have to have an adapter, of course, because the ID.4s and buzzes in the US are CCS-1,
and get $100 rebate from VW to buy your adapter.
VW and Rivian technology from that joint venture could end up in combustion vehicles.
I'm sure that wasn't part of Rivian's plan when they did the deal with VW and took the money, but they needed it,
and the co-CEO, the CEO that come from Volkswagen, talking about how for future use it could be used for internal combustion cars.
And finally, GM is weaning itself off of Chinese parts.
General Motors telling several thousand of their suppliers that they must now identify substitutes for parts and raw materials that have been through or come from China,
with some of those by 2027.
That's a really short timescale.
Following the US-China trade disputes aiming to strengthen domestic supply chain security for vehicles made in North America as they shift more production to the region.
GM also pointing fingers at Russia and Venezuela, but mostly China.
And that's briefly.
