It's EV news briefly for Thursday, November 27th.
Everything EV in less than five minutes.
If you haven't got time for the full podcast, let's get you up to speed.
Big news from the UK.
We will officially go pay-per-mile three pence for battery electrics,
1.5 pence for plug-in hybrids,
and that's on top of the recent £195 a year vehicle excise duty, we call it road tax,
and the £400 if EVs cost over £40,000 when new.
This new mileage fee even rises every year with CPI inflation
and the government's own Office of Budget Responsibility says
this could potentially stop 440,000 electric vehicles being sold in the UK.
Skoda doubles the EV share because of the L-Rock it was one in ten.
Now it's one in four cars being sold at Skoda.
Now have a plug socket on the side.
Congratulations, the 100,000th L-Rock just rolled off the Skoda production line
at Mlada Boleslav.
Tesla has opened up their new Mega Hub in California on the i5
and it is their largest ever supercharger.
168 stalls was the target.
They've now opened 164, missing it by a touch,
but still the largest they've got in the world.
Tesla shatters its annual sales record as well in Norway,
but it shatters Norway's sales record.
Tesla is now the top-selling car brand for any year ever on record
with three weeks left, four weeks left to go.
In the year, the company's already passed a milestone
that Volkswagen had set up in the pre-EV era.
Lotus is betting its comeback on plug-in hybrids.
The Elektra plug-in hybrid will be the first one coming in January next year
in China, 900-volt system, big battery, big fuel tank as well,
though Lotus are hoping they can dip into the Geely Empire
for some engineering there of the powertrain.
Porsche has opened up its U.S. orders for the Cayenne Electric
and say it's doing really well,
although they mean really well in the first four days
110,000 Cayenne Electric builds on the configurator.
That's not actually car sold, though, is it?
X-Pung is eyeing a long-range hybrid, the X-9 for Europe,
founder and CEO Herschel Pung telling Automotive News Europe
that the range extended X-9 could well go to Europe
as a way of softening the blow for those that still want to do the school run
but equally cross-continent trips on fuel.
UK motorways are getting 96 new rapid EV charges
before the end of next year.
GridServe and Extra are opening seven new super hubs,
the first of those this December in Beckinsfield Services.
The Euro-N-CAP testing is changing for 2026.
They're going to change how EVs are measured for ADAS systems,
that is driver assistance systems,
not just the fact that they've got them,
but how well these monitoring technologies maintain driver attention and engagement.
Systems that can change themselves if the drivers are monitoring and being aware
will rate higher on the Euro-N-CAP scale.
They will also start to give more points for basic controls
being done in EVs with buttons, could it mean?
Tesla losing their highly rated Euro-N-CAP rating
because the new scorecard will reward physical buttons for everyday jobs.
Norway's Vihanode will spend 3.2 billion US dollars on a new synthetic graphite plant.
They will build it in Ontario aimed at feeding North America's fast-growing EV battery industry.
They say that they'll have a Canadian $670 million loan from Ontario to back it.
In Japan, Mitsubishi and Kalusa are partnering for work on vehicle-to-grid trials,
and it's goodbye Bollinger Motors shutting the doors
and promising that they will back-pay the staff that are owned
owed the money as that company shuts down.
And that's briefly.
