It's EV News briefly for Friday, October 3rd. Everything EV in less than five minutes. If you haven't got time for the full podcast, we'll get you up to speed. Tesla has opened US orders for the Refresh Model Y Performance ahead of the federal tax credit which expired three days ago. They opened orders just hours before the expiration. If anybody got in with an order, assigned orders and money down, they can now wait to take delivery of that vehicle and still get all of the tax-benefit $7,500 off that vehicle.

For Tesla News in a moment, first of all, the Polestar 3 gets a big upgrade, just like the Volvo EX90 did. So moving to the 800-volt electrical system, charging speeds of 350 kilowatts, amazing new internal compute power. Available to all existing customers via retrofit as well. Nissan is pausing its US EV plans. Nissan is echoing what some people have been saying recently with the expiration of the federal tax credit.

That they don't believe the US is competitive market for them anymore, so the plans to make those vehicles in Canton are now scrapped. Other car makers, the pure-play EV makers, the Teslas, the Rivians, the world, say, hey, get rid of the tax credit and it'll shake out the tree. It'll bring the cream will rise to the top.

Nissan, one of those that have said, well, without the free money, we don't think we're as compelling. So pausing their EV production plans, focusing on hybrids. Model Y performance, back to the Model Y news by Tesla News, has bidirectional charging.

So, seeing it on the Cybertruck, obviously, but now coming to the world's most popular EV, this is a bigger deal. Starting with the Model Y performance, we've known that the on-board systems could bidirectionality for a while, yet it'll be confirmed or rather enabled through and over the air update before the end of the year.

Tesla is already raising its lease prices after the tax credit ends, maybe $70 to $100 on top of the prices from the beginning of the week. The overall list price, cash price stays the same, but the lease price is increasing.

In China, deliveries are declining, and so we've seen some really good figures from Tesla this week in the Q3 numbers. Record figures, actually, in terms of the quarterly numbers, where's it coming from?

The United States, people were bringing forward purchases, they've been clearing out inventory because they've been making more vehicles, they've been selling for a few quarters now.

And so, let's look at Europe, down, let's look at China, down as well. The US is the big bright spot for Tesla, down to 8% in Q3 for China.

Tesla has been doing 0% interest rates and big incentives there as well. Norway just hit 98.3% last month, pure bev of the new car market.

That's not plug-in. No, no, that's pure bev. A lot of the big car makers and the CEOs, since the tax credit's been going in the US, have been talking about how they think maybe the future is hybrids.

Maybe people want to buy hybrids really, and they're worried about the US EV market. Well, Norway says no thanks, we want pure bev.

So, everything else, 25 petrol cars were sold in the entire country last month. Diesel, hybrid, shabby hybrid, mile hybrid, also plug-in hybrid is the entire rest of the markets.

Next star energy is the joint project between Stellantis and LG. That's been given the green light in Canada, ready to occupy those buildings.

Fossil fuel subsidies are still around, though electric having a really interesting report looking at the IMF data, $20,000 per petrol car.

In the US, that's the subsidies that go to the oil industry. We just don't call it a federal tax credit and put a number on it like the EV one.

But, if you're getting rid of money for EVs, let's also do the same for petrol cars, $20,000 per vehicle, both in direct subsidies to the oil industry and indirect as well.

Rivian, showing off the R2, doing some water crossing ability, that shows the vehicles getting closer. They say that they're still on for production early 2026.

And Archer's EV toll, vertical takeoff and landing, all electric, their midnight aircraft, doing some more validation flight, $7,000 feet over 2,000 meters on that one.
