Used car sales in the UK jumped last year,
driven by, you guessed it, electric vehicles.
UK used car sales up for electric vehicles,
surging 45%, but guess what?
The actual total used market here
went from just 2.5% to 3.5% pure bev
of the used market.
We focus so much on new cars
because you obviously need the stock
coming in the top of funnel
and then they'll work their way through
to the secondary and tertiary markets, et cetera,
but still so much work to be done.
Let's not think that that job is done yet
for moving to EVs.
Jaguar Land Rover will unveil a smaller
electric Range Rover sometime in 2026
on their new electric modular architecture.
That'll replace the Velar.
They're also looking forward to unveiling
their Range Rover electric, reaching customers soon
after a two-year delay with that 800-volt architecture
and big 117 kilowatt-hour battery pack,
a proper Range Rover by the look of it as well.
And BYD has done a proper upgrade of the Ato3,
which has been out two or three years now.
We get that vehicle here.
The Ato3 Evo for Europe is a complete redesign.
Only is it front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive
and all-wheel drive now, but an 800-volt architecture
and 220-volt DC fast charging
and a much bigger battery.
60 goes to 75 kilowatt-hours, oh, and loads more tech
and a 0-62 time of 3.9 seconds
and it'll tow 1,500 kilograms.
It's got all the toys like drive resistance
and 360 camera, even new suspension on it.
This is the Ato3 Evo from BYD,
not just a little smidgey improvement
which some of the car makers do.
This thing is night and day different
and given it's a pretty much a mid-sized SUV-shaped crossover
right in that family market,
this has got to be paid attention to.
BYD has set next year as their target
for solid-state cells.
BYD's been working on this since 2016, by the way.
Now, they're pursuing sulfide-based
solid-state batteries as their primary technology route.
These batteries charge exceptionally quickly,
have high energy density,
and this is just the beginning of the development path
and things always move really quickly at the beginning
that before they get mature technology
in a few decades time, so I can't wait to see.
But they're talking about 10-minute charge times
and scaling up by 2030 and that's BYD,
the biggest of the big, so we should pay attention.
Honda says they got their EV strategy wrong.
It's gonna cost them four billion US dollars equivalent.
This financial year that ends in about six weeks time
with their EV investments, their EV missteps,
the wrong kind of product mix of the wrong cars on sale
and the wrong places.
Mazda also not the biggest car company in the world
like Honda, Mazda's leaning into partnerships
this time in China, and they're gonna bring their
Chinese Mazda over here to the UK called the Mazda 6E
and all the trims are gonna come below 40 grand,
so that's good for the premium car tax,
but also big range, 350 miles of range on this
80 kilowatt hour LFP packed loads of technology as well,
200 kilowatt DC fast charging.
Again, this is not a Mazda, it's a Chinese car
that's the Mazda joint venture, it's got the Mazda badge.
Hey, and it looks like a Mazda from all the styling,
so fans of that brand are gonna have
a pretty compelling EV to buy soon.
Solid-state batteries are also shifting forwards
in the United States.
QuantumScape opened its automated pilot line
in San Jose on February the 4th,
and Factorial is moving forward as well.
Factorial is backed by the likes of Mercedes-Benz
and Stellantis and Hyundai and Kia.
Here in the UK, a company called Fuse
have got more certification for their lamp post-chargers.
That's good news because it'll roll out.
More charging, overnight AC slow charging
where people have to park on street in urban areas,
and finally, that McMurtry fan car,
the electric car that broke the Goodwood
hill climb record, finally going on sale now
for customers.
Just one sticking point, it costs a million pounds,
