LIVE
You're listening to the Get Out and Drive podcast, fueled by AMD with your host, John
Custom Karnerdmeyer and Jason Old Car Guy Karr.
We'll be bringing you gear heads, everything you've never wanted to know about cars and
why they should be on the road and not in your garage.
Are you ready to get out and drive?
I had fun at C-10s in the city in Atlanta and I'm just me.
It did rain a little bit, but we walked around, talked with everybody at AMD, met a lot of
friends, met a lot of new friends.
I hung out with a lot of people.
What'd you do?
Well, I had someone ask me for my autograph.
I thought that was pretty damn cool.
That's never happened.
I think when you go to these events, you're meeting up with a lot of mutual hobby thinking
alike.
Obviously, it's a C-10 truck show, so there's no hordes, no dodges to it, whatever.
It's all C-10s, so we've all got that in common as a rule.
Just meeting up and getting to see all these people with that common interest in one spot,
there had to be at least 300, maybe 350 trucks, despite the rain or the threat of rain.
I still had a blast.
We got to see a lot of people, a lot of famous people were there, Derek Geary, Kevin Tates,
Mike Finnegan, and had the opportunity to chat with those guys a little bit while we
were there, too.
Of course, Eddie and Jason, huge promoters of this event, and they were running around
ragged all day.
Rick and Sarah.
Yeah, Rick and Sarah, they pulled off a great show.
They were worried about the rain, but I still would call this event this year a whopping
success, and I'm glad that I got to go.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool.
It wasn't my style, let me start there, wasn't my style, but the big, giant Silver C-10 from
Built by Yo.
Yeah.
Wow.
That thing was huge.
30-inch wheels and tires.
Oh, my God, it was huge.
I don't even know where to start.
That, I don't know, it was parked right in front of our booth, and it was an attraction
like you wouldn't believe of a crowd all day, and it was giant.
I mean, you could almost walk underneath it.
It had to have been 12-foot tall.
Easily.
I mean, it was a big, big-ass vehicle.
What was your favorite truck there?
I know I had my favorite, and they may be the same, but what was yours?
Well, if you guys follow me on YouTube, I've done my video, and I expressed my showstopper
of the show, and it was this beautiful 77 GMC Jimmy.
It was a K5 lowered to the ground, kind of like a baby blue, Robin A. Blue, whatever
you want to call it.
It had the buddy buckets in the front with the console, had the plaid in the seats, the
manual crank window in the rear.
I mean, this thing was absolutely stunning.
You know, a set of Detroit steel wheels on it, stock 350, working AC, like it was just,
it was right, and even though it was kind of buried between two other vehicles, it still
stood out.
I was drawn to that thing like a madman.
I kept going back to it several times throughout the day, and finally was able to get some
footage and talk to the owner a little bit about it.
And to me, granted, there was a lot of really nice trucks there.
This one just stood out to me.
John, how about you?
Which one caught your eye?
I liked that one.
And I think it was the same vehicle that has the, what's it called, the Desert Stripes
on the side of it.
Oh, the Desert Fox.
Yeah.
The Desert Fox Stripes.
And it had Desert Fox Stripes, and was that the same one that had the light blue stripe
on the bottom of it?
Or that was a different truck.
That was a tan truck that had the Desert Fox with the light blue.
Was that sitting over there underneath the rings?
Yes.
On that front row?
Yes.
Yeah, so that one was different because it didn't have the stripes down both sides of
the hood.
It had it on the driver's side.
One side.
Right.
Yeah.
And it incorporated a little bit of blue in that Desert Fox-esque style.
Right.
I wanted to hate it, but the blue looked killer.
Yeah, it did.
It just popped.
It looked killer.
I mean, we were checking it out at the pre-party.
Yes.
And it was just sitting there, subtle as hell.
And I couldn't stop looking at it.
It was super well-built.
I mean, bad-ass truck.
I don't care.
Somebody took a chance, whatever.
That Desert Fox stripe with that little bit of blue in the bottom.
Yeah, and those stripes were painted.
I overheard the owner talking to somebody else.
There's no decal there.
That is all paint.
And there were several of that style paint scheme.
There was this old beat-up, I don't want to say beat-up.
I don't want to offend anybody.
There was this old, original blazer.
It was white, and it had the four different colors of green in the Desert Fox-style stripe.
And that thing absolutely looked mint.
It totally changed.
I liked that truck.
It was knocked around just a little bit.
And it had issues and paint chips and things like that.
I drive the wheels off of that thing.
And that's the bonus part of driving a vehicle that's got a little bit of love on it already,
is you're not worried about getting stuck in the rain.
You're not worried about getting a shopping cart bumped into it at the mall.
It's already got a few battle scars, like Dale, the truck had a few little picks and this and that.
Even my suburban Dale Jr.
Got a few little love taps here and there.
But at the end of the day, it's not perfect.
I don't care if I get caught in the rain.
In fact, I still haven't washed it since I come back.
It rained almost the whole way home.
So nice.
And there was this one truck that is affectionately called Honey.
It was the yellow truck that was up by the entrance.
That had the NASCAR-inspired Aero steel wheels.
They had to be 10 inches wide.
We talked to that guy for a bit.
He was very appreciative that I did a quick little video on it and we've been
interacting a little bit on Instagram.
That thing is a sweet ride.
Battle scars, beat up interior, front license plate.
And I asked him specifically, I said,
is that missing a front license plate screw on purpose?
And he says, you like that, do you?
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
And it was built on a budget.
You know, you had the hood popped and everything looked really nice under there.
It had the gold, anodized style, moroso covers, valve covers and air breather.
Like it had had some love and I can appreciate that kind of a build just as
much as I appreciate something that somebody's got $100,000 tied up into.
I really do.
Because the whole point of being a hobbyist is simply, I can do what I can do.
I know my limits.
I know my budget, but I still love this truck.
And I'm going to show everybody how much I love it.
That guy was proud of that truck, just as proud as I was of mine, as you would be
of yours, and that's what matters.
The dollar value don't mean squat.
Oh, hey, kids.

Remember when you used to go to Swapmeats and scoured parts bins looking for that
one elusive original part you had to take home to clean and repair?
You just made more work for yourself.
It's true.
I'm not a trained body man or metal fabricator, and neither is the majority of
our enthusiasts that are working on their home projects at home in their garage.
For me, finding high quality replacement body panels, rust repair parts, trim and
weather stripping is key to making sure my project is ready to get out and drive.
AMD is the place to find restoration parts, including trim, glass and
weather stripping.
When you are restoring iconic vehicles like the square body and OBS GM trucks,
Mopar muscle cars and Ford Dentside pickups, think of AMD, whether you're a
seasoned restorer or a hobbyist tackling your first restoration.

AMD, more than metal.
Another truck I thought was killer and we walked around it quite a bit was I
think it was a round eye, a step side, blue, 10 camper shell, desert fox
looking stripes on it and it had 15 inch aluminum slots and fat tires on it.
Oh, that was a that was a it was a burgundy truck.
Oh, was it burgundy?
I thought it was like burgundy, but it had burgundy and it had blue stripes
on the burgundy.
It stood out who thought you could put a blue stripe on a burgundy
truck and make it look good.
That thing looked awesome.
Another aluminum pop up camper shell.
Oh, my God, it was awesome.
And another thing that made that awesome was that they had the rollout
roof tent on it, not roof tent, but canopy.
Yeah.
So they're sitting there.
If it starts raining, they're covered and it did start to rain.
Yeah, a couple other trucks, a notable mentions was
Derek Beery had his OBS truck that Kevin Tate's painted on veil.
That thing looked beautiful.
A vice grip garage, the cat farm crew cab used to be white, used to say
vice grip down the side that was completely repainted into an orange
with a wood grain in the in the inside of the of the moldings.
That was a really nice looking truck.
And one that really stood out to me that I guess might be a little bit
of a guilty pleasure.
There was this first gen Chevy S10.
It had Gumby for a license plate.
It was dark green.
That sucker had a V8 in it and it was a sweet looking truck.
Like you see a lot of different things when you go to these shows.
And I remember having a conversation with Rick in reference
to people wanting to bring certain trucks to his event.
And at one point, S10s were not part of the C10s in the city show
to the point where somebody somewhere along the way had gotten a little bit upset.
Granted, it is open to S10, S15 trucks now.
Squares.
It's all squares.
It's also open to G vans.
So anything from, I think, what year was it?
72 or three to like 95 or six?
Whenever they think.
I yeah, I'm pretty sure, but he'd like to keep it 10 grill.
I don't know.
But anyway, either either way, it's hard to draw a line when these
trucks carried body styles over for so long.
I mean, look at the current Chevy Express.
Been around since the early 2000s and the 2025 model looks the exact same thing.
So now you talk about guilty pleasure.
I saw you sniffing around a particular conversion van.
Square red suburban.
Maybe maybe.
Yeah.
So this that particular truck, it was all conversion van out.
The typical 90s conversion van.
Wheel flares, all that jazz.
Yeah, I know the decals were cracked.
The grill was damaged.
The wheels were pitted, but it had those beautiful BFGs on it.
And I fell in love with this ratty old suburban.
I mean, I tell you what, you know, it's the thing is when you go to a
truck show like this, it's hard to pick one favorite because a lot of
trucks stand out to you for different reasons, like that, that
ratty old red suburban, that wasn't even entered into the show.
That was just sitting outside the fence.
That was somebody's holler.
Somebody, right?
And, you know, there was a lot of people who did not make it to this show.
Due to rain, I get it.
You're going to travel a long distance to come to a show and with a
threat of rain, I get it.
But guys, I traveled 1500 miles rain or shine and a huge shout out to Dennis
over at Jet Set Detail that when I got there, he had his van all set up to do
pressure washes, clean, shine tires, get things ready, get it looking good.
We collected a lot of bugs and a lot of road grime on the way down on that
1500 miles and the fact that those guys were there to help, you know, get your
ride looking good again, which he did, remove the bugs, get rid of the grime.
We were ready to show this thing off.
And I think that the show was very well put together.
I know you said at some point that it wasn't your type of show or whatever.
I don't know what you were getting at there, but I was saying that one
particular vehicle from Built By Yo, that truck was not my cup of tea, but it was cool.
But the whole thing is, is that you can go to any car show and there's going to be a lot.
There's going to be a lot of things that you just don't like.
But all it takes is that one or two that you absolutely fall in love with that make
you say, that was a damn good show.
And T10s in the city 2025, in my opinion, was a damn good show.
I'm sure many of you know that I flew across the country to Kansas to buy a 1990 Chevy
Suburban that I seen holding in photos.
I rounded up John and we took the Suburban on a 2000 mile test drive back home to Canada
because that's what car guys do.
It was obvious that I was going to need some panel replacement, rust repair and other
restoration parts replaced, but I wasn't worried.
Why? Because I knew AMD had high quality restoration parts for square body, OBS GM
trucks, Mopar muscle cars and Ford dent side pickups.

AMD built for enthusiasts by enthusiasts.
Now, Jason, T10s in the city was pretty fun, but I know I had, I had a ton of fun.
We went to a personal tour of AMD at their warehouse.
Jason Chandler and Eddie Cabreco were very gracious to show us around.
Eddie was getting ready for the show the next day.
He was jamming everything in the back of the trailer and everything, their brand
new big ass trailer.
But Jason showed us around everywhere and showed us the ins and outs of that place.
And the rumor that it's about to get really, really, really big.
Yeah, you know, if you guys ever have the opportunity to stop into AMD, when you go
into the showroom as nice and as beautiful and as big as it is, it is the smallest room
in the entire building.
And, you know, we got to see lots.
We got to see the warehouse and how they have dedicated shipping for some of their
suppliers or they are the supplier for some of their retailers, like, you know,
Jigs and Summit and some of those guys.
Every bay has its own spot.
Every wrap has its own color for a specific thing.
And knowing everything that they carry in that warehouse, you know what?
The one statistic that stood out to me about that whole tour.
What was that?
That from one end of the building to the other.
Oh, yeah.
Measures almost a quarter of a mile.
We put in a lot of stuff that day.
We did.
We put in a lot of stuff.
When you go to a shipping place and they have a dedicated wood shop
strictly for making crates for shipments, you know,
they're like down to it.
They know what's happening.
They're not going to damage your stuff.
Now, and he even showed us the pile of damaged stuff, the returns.
It wasn't even a pile.
It was like a couple of pieces laying in the corner.
And those pieces don't go to waste either, he says.
Like a lot, they'll they'll dedicate a lot of that.
Or sorry, they'll donate some of that stuff to local area schools
for their shop classes for different projects that they're doing.
So you get a hood that's got the corners bent up on it.
Well, what about what an opportunity to teach these kids
a little bit of body work and how to fix some of that stuff?
But they like we are.
We we think of AMD and we think square body Chevy truck parts.
That is a small fraction of what they do.
John, they had this beautiful, you know, more about it than I do.
I think it was a fair lane.
No, they did they had a sixty three galaxy.
Excellent. Yep.
And almost every panel on that car that was put together was AMD stuff.
Yeah, they they do not have a roof.
They do not have inner door structure.
And a couple of inner quarter sale panel pieces.
But yeah, 80 80 percent of that car can be new.
No. And there's a lot of people behind that car.
A lot of factory lightweight looking cars.
A lot of AFX looking factory race cars.
All that stuff can be finally restored using using their parts.
And we saw them everything from firewalls to floors,
Dent side, bump side, Ford's as we as as Jason mentioned
in the interview that we did, if you if you guys haven't listened to that,
go back and listen to our interview with Jason Chandler.
Getting into some of the early Bronco stuff,
which is is new for them.
So it's not they're not just a square body store.
They they they're dealing in a lot of stuff.
And as they grow, from what we understand,
there is an almost equally sized warehouse across the road
that now is part of their.
Umbrella, they've opened up a lot of their their warehousing
and to store a lot more stuff.
So they are growing.
They are huge part suppliers to a lot of big names out there.
I'm not going to start listing them all because I would forget some.
But chances are, if you've ordered body panels from
a number of these big nationwide
part suppliers, they likely came from AMD.
And that's huge that there are other companies out there
that are selling their product, helping them do what they do.
And they do direct ship if you buy right from them, too.
So I was impressed.
They've got a very clean shop.
They've got a dedicated R&D shop out back.
We got to see some secret projects.
We did.
And some of that stuff will be available on our YouTube channel.
Get out and drive.
We're going to be putting together a little bit of a show on that tour.
So you'll be able to see some of that stuff.
And, John, one of the things that I found amazing was
they have a photo studio
that would make a lot of, I don't know, modeling agencies jealous.
What were they using that for?
They I walked in and I thought, oh, this is somebody's office.
One whole side of it is nothing but lights.
And it has all sorts of endless walls.
Place did not have round corners and everything.
They're putting their parts.
They take them right out of the box, fresh off the line.
These are not shined up showpieces of anything.
This is what you as a consumer will get.
They pull stuff randomly off the floor.
They put it in front of a camera and they have one guy.
That's his only job, I think.
Three sixty viewing.
Now, you can go on their site, you can scroll, you can turn, flip it over.
Now, some other sites, you look and they've got, boom,
they've got a picture of a piece.
You want this thing by it or not?
I don't care.
And you can turn the piece three sixty.
See the inside of it.
See every part of the thing.
And it was a wonderful, wonderful studio
with with very creative minds behind it.
Yeah. And the fact that they had a a full on
square body truck sitting out front that was built out of AMD parts as well as a.
I'm going to forget the name of the cab company that makes the makes the Chevy cab.
Oh, the one that puts together their parts.
I cannot remember their their name.
I'm sorry.
We will flash it up on screen for those who are watching us here now
that they build cabs for square body trucks and AMD provides almost every
aspect, every sheet metal panel, piece, cross member box, tailgate, bumper,
brackets, lights, more than metal.
They're doing interior pieces.
They're doing hood ornaments.
They're they're doing trim.
Like all this stuff is now available.
It's not just sheet metal.
It's more than metal.
Oh, hey, guys.
This is Jason here with AMD and you're watching the Get Out and Drive podcast.
Check this out.
More than metal.
I never thought I'd be able to buy complete aftermarket pieces
for an OBS Chevy truck.
Yeah, you know, AMD's got it.
AMD's got it. Grills, bumpers, wheel well, opening, moldings,
Thunder welds.
You name it. Thunder welds. Stop that.
Oh, shoot.
You don't know what a Thunder weld is.
That's in a previous episode.
Go find it.
Well, go ahead.
I was going to say a huge shout out to Jason Chandler, Eddie Sobreko
and Zach Huckleberry, those guys, huge, huge fans of ours.
We're huge fans of theirs.
We thank them for taking us through showing us what it is that they have to offer.
And look, guys, I think it's something that the world needs to see.
It's not it's not just metal.
It's it's a lot of other stuff.
They support this industry so heavily.
They are at so many different shows.
They go to C10s in the city.
They're at SEMA.
They're at C10 Truck Nationals.
They go to all these different places to get their name out there.
And, you know, they're not afraid to support the small guy like you and me, John.
That's why AMD has been our title sponsor for 2025 of the Get Out and Drive
podcast, and we are calling it fueled by AMD.
We're so happy to have them on board.
We are thankful for the fact that they invited us down to C10s in the city
and to their warehouse to give us a personal tour to see what it's all about.
John, any final thoughts on AMD and what we saw while we were there?
I don't know, man.
I my brain is still going.
It's been a bit since we've been from been back from C10s in the city and AMD.
But I just I'm still astonished by everything
that AMD has available, their turnaround time and everything on their orders
is down to about one day or so for in stock items.
It's it's amazing.
Yep, looking forward to C10s in the city.
