Car Kill Switch Debate, Social Manipulation & Super Bowl 2026 Preview | Hard Parking Ep 311 w/ Talk2Q
After missing the Southwest Speed Festival—big thanks to Jorge Aquino from Tormenting Tarmac for covering.
This episode dives beyond cars: blowback from the last show sparks a rant on tribalism, mature conversations, and why Hard Parking covers society-shaping issues. Discussion on social media manipulation via a circulating photo of Alex Pretti (the Minneapolis nurse killed in a January 2026 incident involving Border Patrol agents)

Car News: A 2016 Honda Civic in Philly flash-frozen by a water main break—now an impromptu photo op.
Deep dive on the "Car Kill Switch" bill (from 2021 Infrastructure Act, Section 24220)—mandating passive impaired-driving tech in new cars ~2026-2027 to stop drunk driving. Not remote government control; onboard sensors detect BAC/impaired behavior and prevent operation. Pros: Saves lives (MADD support). Cons: Privacy, false positives, costs, slippery slope (critics like Rep. Thomas Massie). Recent repeal efforts failed. (More: congress.gov)

"...to develop and mandate advanced impaired driving prevention technology in all new passenger vehicles..."
This technology helps stop people from driving when they are drunk or high. It uses special sensors and cameras to check if the driver is okay to drive.
Impaired driving prevention technology refers to systems designed to detect and prevent drivers from operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This technology can include sensors and cameras that monitor driver behavior and physiological signs.
"...if it detects issues like blood alcohol and access of .8."
BAC tells us how much alcohol is in someone's blood. If it's 0.08% or higher, that person is considered too drunk to drive legally.
Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is a measure of the amount of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. In the U.S., a BAC of 0.08% or higher is considered legally impaired for driving.

All right, that didn't suck as bad.
This is hard parking brought to you by Right Hunt and Right Toyota to Scottsdale, AZ. I'm your host Jay Finney
recording for my home studio here in Gilbert, AZ Wow, what a weekend. Actually not I spent all weekend
at home. Well, most of the weekend at
home. I was supposed to be at
Southwest Speed Festival with our friend Robbie Tomerlin doing an incredible Motorsports event. It's a 2 day event.
I only plan to be there one day. I was there no days, but Jorge
Aquino of Tormenting Tarmac of course bailed me out once again, so he was on the scene. I've been battling bronchitis.
In fact, this is the longest amount of time I've been able to talk uninterrupted without coughing.
Coming up on today's show, Talk to Q joins to give a Super Bowl preview. That was a rough, interesting
conversation because I kept coughing.
I did edit it out because I happen to know a good editor.
Me. Also some blowback from my past
episode on social media. That's when I know I'm doing
things correctly. Some more ICE updates and some
car news. But first let me get to this
read. And I didn't pre record this
again, so I'm going to stumble through this again if I can find this again. You know there's just not enough
time. But maybe this third time my
read is going to be a lot better.
If you run a business and you're tired of juggling tools, chasing logins, and constantly feeling like the tech side of things is heavier than it should be, this might hit close to home.
That tech fatigue usually shows up as an outdated website, reviews slipping through the cracks, missed calls when you're busy, or social media that's always on the back burner.
Most business owners know something's off, but fixing it feels like a bigger project than they have time for.
Sparkforge exists to take that weight off.
In fact, it handles tech behind the scenes, helps clean up how your business shows up online, makes sure calls and messages don't get missed, keeps reviews from slipping through the cracks, wrangles social media marketing so you don't disappear for weeks. And if you're curious, there's a
short discovery session. It comes in 90 days, free to
actually see if things are easier.
No pitch, no pressure. Just real conversation about
what's working, what's broken. And you can and what you can
simplify. Sparkforge brings everything
together, one login, one platform, so you're not fighting your tech just to run your business.
Head over to get Sparkforge dot AI forward slash hard parking to get started. As I mentioned, a little bit of
blowback from the last episode. So I kind of posted my speech on
social media and, you know, I try to play things kind of down the middle, but I still have my own bias because I'm a person just like you, just like you listening, just like you watching. And everybody listening and
watching has your own opinions because you have your own brains, you have your own eyes, you have your own biases.
And I was told to not touch this topic and to stick to cars.
Well, my response was you obviously don't listen to the show or watch the show because it is my show and you are my people. And we like to talk about things
that are shaping our society, our current struggles.
And we're very much a part of it, whether we like it or not.
Now, for somebody to say that, that means that they're, they're taking part of this whole tribalism, this, this, this, this cancerous tribalism that we have.
And I don't care what side you're on.
It's, it's, it's dumb to even have to say you're on a side at all. But I am on a side.
I'm on the side of trying to live my life through all this turmoil. I'm on the side of, you know,
you have issues within the household of differences of opinion. You have issues in friend groups
of differences of opinion. You have, you know, issues in
the car culture of differences of opinion.
But the whole point of it all is, is can we get together to have a conversation? And if you're not willing to
have an adult mature conversation, then guess what?
You are part of the problem. I want to pull up this because
this is I talk about this this stuff a lot and I know that people think I'm crazy when I say that the media, the media, the media where that's social media, whether it's Fox for the right, whether it's CNN for the left, whether it's ABC and CBS and and they don't know what they're trying to do, whether it's Newsmax, whether it's NPR. But I want to show this, this,
this photo and I, and this is not with any judgement, but if you're watching the podcast, I want you to take a look at this photo right here of Alex Petty. The recently deceased did not, I
don't care what you what you think, did not deserve to get killed unalived, terrible circumstances that he put himself in a terrible situation, by the way, not by ICE, which everybody says it's by two 8 Border Patrol agents, which happened to be Hispanic, by the way.
So that blows some narratives out the window.
But just look at this picture. What we know is he was propped
up to be this. And I don't know if he was or
wasn't this great citizen. And look, he he was a nurse and
he worked at the hospital. And here's a picture of him
helping veterans get back on their feet.
Well, couple things. He worked at a hospital.
That was his job. People say, oh, this, this
person was so nice. Look at him.
Look at him helping people. That's his job.
I know a lot of people in healthcare that are assholes.
I know a lot of people in every industry, they're assholes.
But when they're doing their job, they're there to do their job. Never mind all the nurses and
doctors that are getting on social media and telling you how to ruin people's lives because the way they swing politically.
Like really, let's just hope that when you're in the hospital, you just do your job if you're working there.
And let's just hope that the person that working there does their job to aid you. But I digress.
Look at this photo and you have 5 seconds to tell me what's wrong with this picture. I didn't know it had to be
pointed out to me. Oh, by the way, millions of
people have looked at this photo, and it's designed to make you feel a certain way. And that's that social
manipulation I've been talking about.
How do you feel when you look at this photo of a man doing his job? Oh, it's a nice photo.
It's also AI. Look at the American flag in the
background. Count the stripes.
Last time I checked, there should be 13.
There are only 11 on this flag. Sound the alarm AI.
And you know what? That doesn't change anything
other than proves that we are all being socially manipulated on things that you would have no idea that that's happening.
I've been watching a lot of AI videos lately.
You know, dogs dancing, cats driving cars.
Like funny shit. Like, that's some funny shit,
but it gets really scary when you have to watch videos of riots, protesters and all those type of things.
And you have to really search and wonder is this AI?
And a lot of times it is. One thing I've noticed is they
just keep recycling the same videos.
And then when I say they, it's anybody who posts, there's been stuff that I've seen where I've seen the posts and I'm like, wait, I saw that post a while ago and I'm seeing it again as if it just happened. So no, no, no, that didn't just
happen. This is old.
So you got to be careful. That's my only point with this
photo and the whole social manipulation.
Meanwhile, a man impersonating as an FBI agent tried to break Luigi Mangione. You know that guy who killed the
other guy, the head of the United Healthcare, Brian Thompson, I think was his name, Luigi Mangione, that a lot of people celebrated and heralded as a hero for taking out the CEO of a healthcare company because claims, and that's nutty.
But a guy shows up dressed as an FBI agent, tries to break, wants to break Luigi Mangione out of jail armed with a BBQ fork and a pizza cutter. Can't make this stuff up.
rightherenpr.org. Mark Anderson, a 36 year old
Minnesota native, I did not know he was a Minnesota native.
I'm not bagging on Minnesota. I have family that I love very
much in Minnesota. Speaking of Minnesota, I think
LA is jealous of Minneapolis. LA said hold our beer.
We started this shit last year. Yeah, we're going to be the last
ones in the news. So they're trying to, they're
playing this tug of war with Minneapolis and holy shit, what a crap show. And I feel bad for everybody
involved, whether you're being detained, whether you're the agents, whether you're the crazy people on the streets that are doing more than peacefully protesting.
You can yell what you want. I don't do that.
I said that before. But as soon as you start
damaging city and federal property and start trying to barricade agents in, you get what you deserve.
OK, now let's switch to ICE in Philadelphia.
You're going to love this story. Tiana Graham owns a 2016 Honda
Civic and ICE has basically destroyed her vehicle, but not like you would think. A water main broke and as the
water spilled out on the road, cars kept driving by and splashing water. Up on this poor.
Woman's car or 2016 Honda Civic, and now it is entombed in ice and people are going there and hanging out and taking photos of it. That's crappy.
That might be the worst. Hopefully that's the worst ice
story we have to hear this week. And finally, this has been
floating around for a while, but there is a new bill that's being introduced. Well, I guess it can't be new if
it's been floating around for a while.
But the car kill switch bill, which aims to remotely allow the car to automatically turn off. But here's the deal.
It's about Big Brother and government control.
I think that's the biggest concern.
Should. You be allowed.
Should they be allowed they, the government, be allowed to flip a switch remotely and just kill your car, like cut the engine off? And obviously that's very
concerning, but that's not what this bill is looking into it.
It's really about drunk driving. I asked my good friend Grok to
help me out and summarize a bill.
This thing's been floating around since 2021 on the Infrastructure Investment and JOBS Act signed by former President Joe Biden, which requires the NHTSA, the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, to develop and mandate advanced impaired driving prevention technology in all new passenger vehicles starting around model year 2020 six, 2027. So what this really means is,
remember, the whole mother is against drunk driving thing.
So the purpose is it aims to save lives by stopping impaired driving thousands of deaths yearly.
Supporters like MADD see it as a major safety advance.
How it works The system is passive, no active breath test required, uses in vehicle sensors, cameras to monitor the driver and can disable starting or restrict driving if it detects issues like blood alcohol and access of .8.
That's a lot of alcohol or other impairment.
Criticisms Opponents, including some Republicans like Thomas Massie, call an overreach, raising privacy concerns, potential or false positives leading to the kill switch with no clear reset or appeal process, added cost to vehicles and slippery slope fears toward broader control.
Though no remote government access is mandated, recent developments efforts to repeal or defund have failed so far, so the mandate remains on track pending NHTS as final rulemaking. So what do you think?
Should we be allowed? I already know the answer is
hell no, you shouldn't be able to.
Here's my thing with that, like with anything, I think there's value, but I'm somebody like when I drink, sometimes the alcohol just flows through my body and you could smell it and I could be perfectly fine. I could beat you in a game of
basketball. I could beat you and doing
anything. I'm very competent.
Other times I get very tired when I'm not drunk, and that is an impairment, so I understand it.
It'll be. Interesting to see what.
Happens. If it happens, it is what it is.
I think it's probably going to trigger a lot of false positives, but I would hope we haven't had, we haven't had Divyon. Divyon Divyon Sangam.
Is that her name? We haven't had her on a long
time to talk about stuff like this.
But I would think that drunk driving is way down in the era of ride shares, whether Uber, Lyft, these unmanned vehicles, this Uber, this Tesla thing, that's going to come out pretty soon. So I guess we'll just have to
wait and see. Coming up.
Q ready down. He is Q Mr. Talk to Q As
promised, I said we would get together after the college.
Football season and the NFL season, we know.
Who's going to be in the Super Bowl?
So we're going to talk about that today.
But Shidor Sanders somehow is a pro.
Bowler and Bill. Belichick got snubbed for the
Hall of Fame, So which one of those do you want to tackle first? I want to talk about this
Belichick thing first, and first of all, thanks for having me back, man. But absolutely, I'm, I'm so sick
of these. I don't even know what to call
them, but you have this group of people who are just so petty.
For sports writers. I mean, you know the sports,
right? I mean, they're so petty about
things. And I know you have like the
whole Spygate scandal and inflate gate and all this stuff, but the man aside from those seasons is still one of the greatest coaches to ever coach the game of football in the NFL.
It's like if you take all of that out, he is still light years better than other people that are in the Hall.
Why are you doing this? Why are you grandstanding trying
to make a point? Has anybody come out?
Do we know? Excuse me?
Do we know why he wasn't elected in?
Has anyone come out with explanation?
I have some theories but I haven't looked at the news cycle. Recording this on on Thursday
January 29th. No one has the guts to come out,
to be honest with you. I mean, when they asked, who was
that? Bill Polian, I think about it
and I, I guess he's a voter. He's a general manager.
And he was like, well, I'm 95% sure that I voted for Billy.
What do you think? You're 95% sure you know if you
voted for the guy or not. Right.
So no one wants to backlash, which is what makes it worse.
If it's something you truly believe in, then stand on it.
Yeah, I my theory kind of is this and it doesn't make it right. I think that for the longest
outside of Deflategate and Spygate.
I think. Toward the end, everyone's like,
OK, who is it? Is it Brady's team?
Is it Belichick's team? And then Brady goes on to have
essentially a Hall of Fame career in Tampa Bay.
The Patriots fall flat on their face, You know, winning and losing as a quarterback stat and a coaches stat, unfortunately.
But I think at the end of the day, it's just it's wild with, you know, 88 total Super Bowl rings, six with the Patriots and two with the with the Giants as an assistant defensive coordinator, you know, it, It doesn't really make any sense.
It doesn't. And the whole Brady's team
argument, I mean, first of all, Robert Kraft is back in the Super Bowl without either of them.
So you you can't leave him out of the equation.
He was part of the success. And then with Belichick, people
forget there's this recency bias.
Tom Brady wasn't always the gunslinger that he was later in his career when first of all, with Bledsoe, they were already successful. With Drew Bledsoe, he got hurt,
Brady stepped in, and he was mediocre at best when they won.
As a game manager. Because the defense was was the
key to winning those Super Bowls and Adam Ben and Cherries leg.
So it's not. Leg and Harrison and the boys.
Yeah, yeah. So it's not like Brady was Joe
Montana for all of those Super Bowls.
He grew into being, you know, the greatest quarterback most people have ever seen. But it didn't start that way.
Belichick was part of the foundation.
Robert Kraft was part of the foundation.
It wasn't a Brady and or Belichick thing.
It was all three. I think Eli Manning, I think saw
that he didn't make it either, but I don't know if that's a snub. That's one of those
conversations everyone says is he a first ballot Hall of Famer?
I never thought he was. He was.
I mean, yeah, you beat Brady twice, but outside of that you were average at best. So I don't have a problem with
him not making it to be honest with you.
What double star jersey are you wearing right now?
This is a Jason Wynn jersey. 8282.
Yeah. So I actually have a a Deion
Sanders one in the closet. Nice way back.
Yeah, yeah, that has to be from way back.
Chador Sanders somehow makes it to the Pro Bowl.
I know obviously he wasn't the first, second, third or fourth pick, but it's I think, I think he was selected from a more of a popularity aspect. Or we don't know.
If the other people better than him just declined.
I, I don't know, I haven't looked that much into it.
I just think it's funny. We've been kind of talking about
him. He's come.
He's been kind of. One of the few.
Rookies that we've been tracking since since the draft, essentially. Yeah, and I mean, I'm happy for
him. I think the exposure, I think
the exposure was doing some good.
I think it would be a nice ending to what was a very tumultuous start, given where he was drafted.
And when you consider how he felt on draft day, getting prank called and then going in the fifth round to end up in the Pro Bowl, it probably feels like a win for him.
But as far as him being selected, it's because Mahomes was hurt. Trevor Lawrence.
Did Trevor Lawrence not want to play?
I mean his number is crazy. Yeah, I'm guessing Trevor
Lawrence didn't want to do it. He probably said he had a
ingrown toenail or something. You know, these guys find
reasons not to play in the pro ball.
And so I, I can think of probably about four or five if not more quarterbacks that probably would have played if they were healthy or really wanted to play.
But I still think it works out well for him.
But all these people who are on my Facebook timeline, you know, with the, oh, look at God and all this type of stuff like he.
Oh. It's God's way.
It was God's will that he got sent to the Pro Bowls that was going on. Yeah, I, I mean, it's like,
look, I'm, I'm glad the guy got to go, but is he the top in the top three of AFC quarterbacks? Not even close.
He's not in the top. I think he's like rock bottom of
anybody who started. Yeah.
He's he's really bad. His numbers are really bad.
Yeah, like 7. Tests.
I'm not hating on him. 11 interceptions, I mean.
Yeah, yeah, I'm not. Hating on him.
I just think it's hilarious. They somehow, you know, Shadour
Sanders is, is a Pro Bowl selection.
Who do you got? Let's talk.
Oh, I think last time we talked, we we asked who do we want to win the national championship? And I'll have to go back and
look, but what are your thoughts on Indiana and and Mendoza?
Man, let me say Indiana had one of the most impressive seasons I've seen in quite some time to actually run the table given how things are today, which makes it almost impossible to do such.
And it's not like they just, you know, kind of backdoor their way into their title. They beat some really good teams
and they beat some really good teams badly and although Miami had opportunities and they were a play tough and show that they were worthy of being chosen for the playoffs.
Man, Indiana just has that dog in a man.
Signetti is no joke. He did at Indiana what people
were hoping Dionne would do in Colorado as far as that instant turn around. Yeah, I it's crazy because
they're not a powerhouse. And I heard a statistic where
they're the only team that has gone undefeated in the modern football era. They're also the last basketball
team to go undefeated. So they, they, they have that
title now. Yeah, what?
50 years ago? Yeah, 1970s.
I love seeing it. And actually watching the
University of Miami, you know, everyone's like here comes that, that, that interception by Carson Beck and sure as shit like 3 plays later interception. But you know, they, they, they
showed me a lot based on having watched Indiana the last few games because, I mean, they're in the ACC and nobody gives them respect. Why would they?
Even if they have a great defense, they still haven't really played anybody. But they held their own against
Indiana. And I was actually pretty
surprised. Like that game was a lot closer
than the final score shows. And I know that's very cliche to
say. Yeah, but it's true and and in a
way I feel bad for Beck because this guy, I mean, he gets a bad rap. He's only lost like 6 games in
his college career and his college career span is over like what, 8 years? Seven years.
A lot, yeah. I mean, the guy's been in my
been been in college more than some professors, but for for those six losses, 4 of them, if I'm not mistaken, ended with him throwing interceptions. And so that that has to feel
pretty bad, especially to go out with an interception when you had opportunity to win the national championship and you're out of eligibility finally. So I kind of feel bad for him in
that regard. But I mean, he'll be all right.
He's made a ton of money. He'll get drafted.
I'm not saying he'll be high or anything, but he'll get drafted and have opportunities in the in the NFL maybe.
Yeah, I don't know if he will. I mean, I know that sounds crazy
to say, but I just, I've never really been that impressed with Carson Beck, watching him for the last three or four years.
I thought he had won at. Georgia, but I guess not.
But I think he was a backup when they won the but.
He, I thought he was on a championship team, was he not?
Or I guess not. I thought he announced he.
Was on a championship, but he was either injured or he was a backup. He wasn't a starter.
Right, so he's got that, well, way too early predictions for Texas. Texas are going crazy.
I don't know what. Michigan has done.
In the whole transfer portal, but Texas has basically gone out and they're like UNLV from the what, the early 90s?
Well, they just go out and buy a team.
That's what it feels like right now.
And so I think once again, the targets going to be on their back and they're probably preseason number one or two.
And. I don't like that, but hopefully
they they they do what they need to do.
How's Michigan looking? I'm, I'm seeing a bunch of Utah
transfers coming in, so I'm loving the fact that Whittingham is getting his guys. And so, and these are like big,
big guys, some of those guys that have the hard names to pronounce the, you know, like some of the Pacific Islanders, you know who are. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So we're talking about big and movable objects sitting in the middle of the defense and on the offensive line.
So I'm loving that. But it still remains to be seen
how it's all going to pan out. So I'm happy with some things so
far as far as what they brought in.
I hate losing. I think it was a we lost one of
our running backs. I can't think of his name right
now, if it was Justice Hill or. We lost the main one, but the
other one, right? Yeah, we lost one of our good
running backs, so I I can't remember where he went, so I hated to see that. But Michigan normally finds
running backs pretty easily, so I think they can replace that.
But I'm excited so far. It just feels weird with college
football now, looking at free agency so to speak, whereas years ago I already knew who was going to be on the team and now I don't year to year. Yeah, it's weird because it's
like. Well, these are he's a three
star recruiting, 4 star recruiting and I'm like, So what man? You're looking at kids that are
assigned their. Intent to.
Go to the school while they're still in high school, they still have a year left. Like who cares?
And now it's like the transfer portal and I'm on it, man.
I feel like one of these college football losers because because I'm all, you know, I'm all over it, but.
When you. Talk about Michigan's running
backs and by the way, Texas lost 6 running backs.
When you talk about Michigan, Michigan running backs, it made me think of Blake Corum and how you know they were a couple plays away from being in the Super Bowl with the Rams.
So let's pivot to the NFL. Who do you have in the big game
between the Patriots and Seattle?
Have to go with Seattle even though the Patriots are a solid team. I mean, solid offense, solid
defense. I still just think Seattle's too
dynamic on defense. They're too fast and they'll be
able to make enough plays on offense with Jackson, Smith and Jigba, who is arguably the best receiver in the game right now.
Toss up between him and Puka Nakua and.
You called him out and Puka out at the very beginning of the season of of People to Watch. And yeah, those guys, I don't
know what it is about Ohio State and their wide receivers, but I and then Puka kind of came out of nowhere.
But and I can't remember where he went to college.
I was somewhere on the West Coast, Washington or Washington State, I don't remember. But yeah, I just think they have
a little too much. And Sam Darnold, man, he, he
seemed like this is, this is going to be his, his Cinderella moment. You know, I mean, the guy got
drafted by The Jets, left for dead and has found his way in the Super Bowl, you know, so it almost seems destined for him to win this time. Yeah, I.
Love the Sam Darnold. Story I think we've.
Talked about it before. I just hate it when people bag
on somebody, you know, And you know, I have some dear friends that live in Seattle and they're, they're supposed to be in town next weekend for the Super Bowl and my birthday, of course. And so we're we're going to be
rooting on Seattle for sure. OK, yeah, yeah, I would like to
see them win it. I I mean, it really doesn't
matter one way or another, but, and I know people still have Patriots fatigue from all those Tom Brady years, but you still have to be impressed with what Drake May has done.
I, I've never really had confident in North Carolina quarter quarterbacks from, you know, of Daniel Jones or Mitch Trubisky and guys like that. But Drake May has finally
stepped out of that shadow and I, I have to give him a lot of credit and he, he probably won't win the MVP or anything like that, but he means so much to the success they've had this year. It's between him and.
Stafford pretty much right. Yeah, I yeah, I believe so.
And I think Stafford's going to get it and, and deservedly so.
I mean, the guy's played well. He really has.
You know, he, I'm going to say he choked in the championship game because he had opportunities.
Those two plays, he should have just ran on one of them.
He probably would have got the first down in a whole new set of downs and I I know he's he wishes he.
He had nobody in front of him like dude, what are you doing just. Go, go, go and just, you know,
incomplete and you know. Yeah, I know there are a lot of
a lot of plays in that game he probably wishes he had back.
That would have been a great Super Bowl, that LA, Seattle game. I mean all the games they played
this year if I'm not mistaken, were pretty close.
So. Yeah, so I mean, it was a great
match up and I felt like whoever won that game would probably win the Super Bowl, but I'm still thinking it's going to be Seattle. Yeah, me too.
