The GT‑R is a very fast and powerful car from Nissan. It has a special engine that gives it lots of speed, but it can be hard to drive on normal roads.
An extended warranty is like a longer insurance plan for your car that helps pay for repairs after the original warranty ends. You can buy it from the dealership or other companies.
The Lexus RX 350 is a fancy SUV that sits between a sedan and a truck. It’s made by Lexus, the luxury brand of Toyota, and it’s known for being comfortable and dependable.
A V6 engine is a type of car engine with six cylinders arranged in a V shape. Adding two turbochargers means the engine uses two small fans to push more air into the cylinders, giving it more power.
A non plug‑in hybrid is a car that uses both gasoline and electricity, but you can’t charge its battery by plugging it into the wall. It runs mostly on gas and uses a small electric motor only when needed.
A plug‑in hybrid gas car can be plugged into a charger to fill its battery, so it can run on electricity for short trips. When the battery runs low, the gas engine starts to keep it moving.
A turbocharger is a small machine that pushes extra air into the engine so it can burn more fuel and make more power. It’s like giving the engine a boost.
Self-driving cars are vehicles that can drive themselves using computers and sensors, so you don't have to steer or brake.

And here's one of the four National Dealer Council, a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, and six-time winner of the Texas Auto Writers Association Award for Best Radio Show in Texas.
Jerry's partner is Todd Chameless, great voiceover guy, and six-time winner of the Darts Championship at the Golden Sperr Bar and Grills. Here they are now on the CarPro Show.
And it's the CarPro Show, just like the man said, except Jerry Reynolds is enjoying his holiday. So we have Steve Dean in today to answer all of your CarPro questions and you're like, well, or give us the number.
896-7777, that's the Chase.com CarPro line to call. And if you're like Chase, yes, CH-A-I-Z.com and the number 896-7777. All right, let's go ahead and talk to Tim and Houston. Tim, what is your question for Steve Dean?
Let's see, my wife's got a CRB 2020. I'm getting out of a car that's now 15 years old. 73 years old. I want a sports car. I want like a Corvette or a Porsche. But at the same point of time, I want to be practical.
But no, happy wife, happy wife. The wife doesn't even want to get in this. It helps me.
Well, I wish I had great words for you, but I've been married 45 years myself. And at that point, Tim, I think you need to just get what you want for the sports car.
My all-time favorite sports car has probably been the Nissan GTR when it first came out with the horsepower on the torque. And after a short period of time, I realized it was way too powerful for someone like me to be on the road with that.
So I promptly got out of it. I can't go wrong with the Corvette. It's a great looking vehicle. It handles the horsepower. I say enjoy life, my friend.
Okay, thanks for the advice. I would look at that Corvette all day long.
Okay, you have a good one. You too. You're giving permission. I like that.
1896 7777. That is the number to call. Let's go ahead and talk to Frank and Houston. Frank, what is your question for Steve Dean?
I have a question. I have a power boost F-150. And when I bought it, I was not a truck person. And now it's become my daily driver.
And so I have 30,000 miles. I need to get an extended warranty. And I was wondering what your recommendation is concerning either go back to Ford by the warranty from Ford.
Or I've looked at the chase situation and buy something from them. But I need a professional opinion on it.
What year is your F-150, Frank?
2023. Okay. As long as you were still within your 30,000 miles.
If you're still within your three year, 36,000 miles, you can still put a new car service contract on it through Ford.
Obviously, the factory tends to have a vested interest in you because you're in their product. But there are a lot of third-party insurance companies that do all for extended warranty.
Just like my partner, Laura just mentioned at chase.com. You can go in at C-H-A-I-Z.com. You can actually go into that site and compare extended warranties that are endorsed by the car pro show.
And then kind of go from there on which one you think best fits you. But either way, you can't go wrong, especially if you're going to hang on to the vehicle.
Yeah, I decided not to keep it. So, but you'd recommend they go in with the Ford over anybody else.
You can't beat the factory. They've got a vested interest in you. It's their product and they want to keep you in it. So, yes, if there's not a huge cost difference, I would say with factory.
Yeah, that's why I was calling just to make sure because I have a link in and I have a Ford Mustang. So, that's where I'm headed.
Yeah, that's my personal preference as well.
Thank you. God bless you. Have a Merry Christmas to you too.
896, 7777. Let's go to Conroe, Texas and talk to Don. Don, what's your question for Steve Dean today?
I have a 2025 Lexus RX 350 less than a year old.
Low, I considered to have low mileage. Anyway, I was involved in an accident. I was hit from behind. I was sitting still hit from behind.
Pretty high rate of speed. Anyway, the damage on it was originally said to be $6,000. I knew that wasn't correct at the Lexus dealer. Another 8,000 was added to it.
So, we're looking at what for around all around $14,000. And then there's been a few supplementals. I was hoping for I was hoping that it would be totaled out because I didn't want a brand new car that I'm going to make payments on for.
I think is what four year or five year or four years and to not have what I would consider value.
But anyway, long story short, it's being fixed. And I'll be picking it up at the end of the year here. My question is, is there's a diminished value deal and all that type of stuff.
Can you give me a advice is to what I need to do or look for before picking a car up. Personally, I would tell you this. If I could flip it right there at the Lexus dealership immediately, I will do that.
But I have no idea what kind of numbers we're going to be looking at or anything. But I guess my question is I've got a new car with a lot of damage on it. And I feel like it does not have value left on it.
Well, Don, you're absolutely going down the right road on this. But first off, once the vehicle is repaired, it's not going to do you any good to go after diminished value until after it is repaired.
So it needs to be repaired. And I will say you need to inspect it and make sure that it is repaired properly. And to the best of their ability and that it's, you know, is good a condition as it possibly be. I want to say like it's new again, but nothing's ever new again.
Once it is repaired, my recommendation to you is one, take it and have it appraised at a couple of different dealers.
And I'll be happy to do it for you. If you want to email me the information, I can give you book values at least and give you an idea of what it's worth if it were not wrecked versus what it is worth after being wrecked.
And that's what you're going to approach the insurance company with and say, I need to be made whole. So if it's worth $3,000 less had it not been or more had it not been wrecked. Well, that's what you want because you want to be made whole.
Does that make sense? Yes, it does.
So you can't do that until after the vehicle's been repaired and then do your comparisons and then approach the insurance company and you want to be made whole and get your diminished value out of it.
So if it appraises for $40,000 and you know, without being damaged, it's $45. Well, that's the difference that you want to approach the insurance company with and be able to give it some backup to back to do their decision.
Call us at the CarProShow 896-7777. That's 896-7777. And while you're listening, sign up for the CarPro newsletter. All you got to do is go to CarPro.com.
What you do with your car at the end of a lease can be confusing. Jerry Reynolds, the CarPro, will clue you in. Call the CarPro Show at 1-800-926-7777.
It's the CarPro Show. I'm Lord Reynolds. I am totally jazzed to be here. Jerry Reynolds is off today for the holiday. That's why Steve Dean is here. Now Steve has been in the business for a very long time.
And I know he has the answers to your questions. No matter what you're going to ask us, the number to call is 896-7777. And the voice on the other end is going to be Steve Dean answering your question.
So we're going to go to Franswood, Texas and talk to Steven. Steven, you got a question for Steve Dean today.
What I do is that if they fix the problem on the V6 Twin Turbo engine on the Lexus Sport Utility Vehicles.
Steven, what year models are we talking about?
2026-2025.
You know, they did have a... Well, as I go back to 2023, they replaced over 100,000 of them.
Well, they did have a massive recall that was a major, had major effects. It was about 127,000 Toyota's and Lexus vehicles with a 3.4 and a 3.5 liter twin turbo.
They had issues with it knocking. I'm not aware that they're, you know, as far as some of the owners reliable reports on the turbo and the actuator.
I don't see anything from Toyota or Lexus that shows that that has not been resolved. And I've not heard anything from any of my Toyota dealers or Lexus dealers that are saying, hey, they still have any issues with it.
I was just curious, otherwise I'd go back to 2023 when I'd had a V8.
No, you'll be okay with the V6.
It's a twin turbo. It's going to get up and go regardless.
Okay. All right, sir. I have a fine American Christmas. Thank you.
Merry Christmas to you too.
896-7777. That's 896-7777 to talk to Steve Dean and ask your question.
You know, the other thing you can do is sign up for the CarPro newsletter.
Jerry, I mean, I think the guy types like 24-7 because that newsletter is filled with so many stories and so much good advice that you need and it's free.
Hey, all you got to do is go to CarPro.com. You sign up. It shows up in your email box. So it's easy, easy to do with that.
You know, Steve, I got to ask you a question because I'm thinking this is a good idea but people have told me my ideas are bad.
So I'm going to ask you to see what you think.
I think it would be great for manufacturers to make standard in our cars dash cams.
That way, if you're in an accident or something like that, you can prove what actually happened.
You know, Laura, dash cams are becoming more and more popular, you know, personally myself since I've in the last eight months or so have gotten to where I'm actually driving quite a bit.
I've seen some of the videos on what they call brake checkers.
Yes.
These people swerve in front of you and slam on their brakes so you rear end them, then they get out.
Oh, well, I'm injured and then you had lawsuits and all that.
I actually installed a dash cam on my own vehicle where it has front and rear view just for my own safety.
Should something ever happen. You know what? I can always point to that dash cam and say that camber shows it all.
Well, I'm going to take that as a yes from Steve Dean on the dash cams.
Let's go ahead and take a call.
896, 7777.
Let's go to John in Austin.
John, what is your question for Steve today?
Well, what's the likelihood that car manufacturers will continue to manufacture non plug-in hybrids in 26 and 27?
John, it's all going that way.
Nissan is coming out with the road that will be a, it's going to be a plug-in hybrid gas.
Personally, for my driving habits and my, I guess, lack of patience sometimes, I would probably not be a good electric vehicle candidate.
But I would be a good candidate for a plug-in hybrid which also has gas so that I've got the best of both worlds.
My problem is patience.
Yeah, I want a non plug-in hybrid. I have a vanza now. It's non plug-in hybrid.
John, I have not seen anything on that. If you'll email me at Steve at corporo.com.
Let me do a little research for you on that because Nissan is doing something along those lines.
Ford is also going to be doing something along those lines where it is a hybrid.
But it also has a generator that charges the vehicle as it's being driven. So in it does not plug-in.
Yes, that's what I want. Because we're up in years, we're in our 90s.
And we're going to be moving to an over 55 apartment building.
And it's a new building and they're very non-committal about whether or not they're going to have...
John, can I get you to hold that thought for one minute?

Call the car pro, Jerry Reynolds at 1-800-926-7777.
And welcome into the car pro show. Our number is 800-926-7777.
We go straight to John in Austin. He's asking a question about a hybrid and Steve, you've got an answer for him.
John, I would suggest you look at the Toyota Prius, which is going to be a non-hybrid type non-plug-in hybrid.
It's been around for some time now and has a pretty decent track record.
It's also has the Vainza and the... what's the next size up for the Toyota? They're non-plug-ins.
The only one that's going to be a non-plug-in on the Toyota line is going to be the Prius.
I don't see it in the... and I think the Vainza.
Okay, yeah, we have a Vainza now. We love it.
Toyota makes a great product. You can't go wrong there.
Yeah, and you don't have to stop the gas station very often when I can stop and fill up the tank, which takes about seven gallons.
I can drive 500 miles before I need to fill up again.
Well, that's supposed to last you a while there.
Yeah.
Well, good luck to you, John.
Okay, thank you. I appreciate it.
You're welcome. Merry Christmas.

Well, Laura, we do have a great group of car-pro dealers.
And speaking of one is Park Place, Mercedes-Benz, and Dallas.
Our customer, Don, there said the experience was a five-star.
It was excellent. It was very... the salesperson was very responsive,
knowledgeable and informative. They actually worked with Eric there.
And Eric was great, very responsive, knowledgeable, and informative and helpful.
Made the whole process enjoyable.

That's 800-926-7777.
Let's go to Dana in Alan Texas.
Dana, what is your question for Steve Dean today?
Hi, Steve.
I currently drive a 20-viewing enclave.
And I am wanting to get a newer one.
I looked at the viewing enclave.
I like it.
I like the size.
I like the third row.
But when I did some research, the newer engine had been a problem.
What would you recommend instead of that, if that is the case, which I wanted to verify, if that's the case?
I will certainly look into that.
And if you can email me at Steve at corpora.com, I will dig up some information for you and get that to you.
But as far as comparative vehicles, you can look at the Chevy Traverse, the Hyundai Palisade, the Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander.
Those are all going to be comparative vehicles to the enclave.
Do you need the third row seat?
I like it.
It's handy when I do girl trips.
Understand.
For a friend trip.
Well, those are all good options that I've given you.
And they are worth looking at.
Okay.
As far as the Buick enclave motor issues, what have you heard or seen on that?
Well, they went to a turbocharge.
I don't totally understand.
But there's been some problems and that they've had to have the engines in and they're not working and just different information.
And they don't get to pick up and go that they did before.
Understand.
The reason I asked that is I've actually unfortunately had to have my personal vehicle in the body shop.
And they let me or put me in a rental car which was a Buick enclave.
And I actually thoroughly enjoyed that vehicle.
It rode great.
It was comfortable.
It was quiet.
So I would look at it.
And like I said, if you'll email me your information to stay at carpro.com, I'll do the further digging for you and see if there's any real concern.
Okay.
Okay.
I appreciate that because I do like the car.
It's been great.
It's a great looking vehicle.
I just need some updated features.
And my current car is about 94,000 miles.
Is that a right under 100 a good time to trade?
Yes, ma'am.
Or does it matter?
It does.
The optimum time is for as value wise and what dealerships are looking for on used inventory.
It's typically around that 60 to below 70,000 mile ranges optimum, value wise.
Once you go over 100,000 miles, it's going to take an additional hit and value.
So yes, if you're at 95, I would definitely look at doing it.
That's just my personal opinion.
Right.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
I appreciate it.
Yeah.
Thank you, you too, Mary Christmas.
Steve Dean handing out the answers.
Let's go to John and California for those answers.
John, what's your question for Steve Dean?
Hello.
I have a 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
All six cylinders went bad.
Has about 80,000 miles.
I need advice on what to do with it.
John, unfortunately over the last 40 years, I've had quite a few friends and associates that have run into those issues where the motor simply goes bad.
As far as your options, you have several.
My first question to you would be, do you actually owe anything on it?
Yes, I owe five, eight thousand on it.
Okay.
So my guess is that you probably got an estimate of replacing the motor and it was probably somewhere between eight and ten thousand dollars.
That's sound in the ballpark.
It may have been higher than that.
Not even in this universe.
The dealer gave me an estimate of sixty five thousand.
Wow.
What?
That is incredible.
Well, first off, I definitely get a second opinion.
Well, that is my second opinion.
I have a Land Rover Specialist.
Well, that's incredible.
Well, I'll tell you John, at this point, your options are going to be limited.
I would find someone that's a mechanic or someone that's going to probably do the work themselves.
Sometimes dealers will buy vehicles knowing they need a motor, but they can put a motor in it,
and then they can retail it and then get what they put into it out.
I would probably see what I could do just to lessen your pain and lessen your expense.
Take it to one of the dealers that and just get bids on it.
And even maybe giving it the salvage bid is not going to do you any good.
But I would start there and see what kind of number they put on it and just cut your losses and move down the road.
Yeah, but are you recommend a dealer?
I would go to a dealer or see what the Land Rover Range Rover people would offer you.
I mean, it's their product.
They can fix it less than anybody else can.
And see what kind of number they give you.
And if you get out of it, then count your blessings and rock on.
Yep, yep, yep.
All right, John.
I appreciate it.
Thank you so much for the call.
8967777.
Let's go to Charlie in California, Newbury Park, Charlie.
I feel like he's like King of Newbury Park.
So therefore, Charlie, you got your question ready for Steve Dean today?
Yes.
Oh, you do.
All right.
Can you give me your question?
Oh, yes.
I'm asking you say a reliable self-driving car available on the market today.
Charlie, I'm going to give you my personal and honest opinion on that.
Ready.
They are not out enough and refined enough in my personal opinion that I would be looking at that at this point.
Yes, there are.
I guess manufacturers trying to get out there with them and obviously Tesla being one of them.
I'm just like sometimes when they come out with a brand new model, brand new engine, brand new transmission on a vehicle.
I'm hesitant first year while they work the bugs out.
So I would be personally hesitant at this point to look at a self-driving vehicle.
That's just honest opinion.
Is there something in the future I could look forward to?
I think in my opinion, we were probably two to maybe four years away from something that I would say,
you know what?
I'll rush out and buy that because that makes sense and I can make an intelligent and I guess safe decision for myself.
But that's just me personally.
Thank you.
Have a Merry Christmas.
You do the same Charlie.
Give us a call at 896-7777.
You know, have you seen the movie leave the world behind with Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawk?
I have not.
Oh, okay.
There's this Tesla scene in it.
You've got to go home and watch this movie this afternoon.
There's this Tesla scene in it where it's the end of the world and the Tesla cars all go nuts.
And they start going on to the freeways, self-driving themselves and they're running into everything and wrecking everything.
I have seen that.
I have seen that.
It was good.
That was a trip.
Yeah.
See?
And that's something.
That's why you said you don't want any self-driving cars.
You don't trust them.
See subconsciously it's weighing on me.
Give us a call.
We'll get your call on next.
896-7777.
That's 896-7777.
Find out when that 100,000 mile mark matters.
And when it doesn't matter.
The car pro Jerry Rimmel said 1-800-926-7777.
Woo!
Welcome into the car pro show.
I am having so much fun today.
Steve Dean is in for Jerry Reynolds, who is enjoying his holiday.
And Steve is going to be answering your questions.
But you've got to give us a call.
896-7777.
That's 896-7777.
Let's go to Sam in Houston.
Sam has a question for you, Steve.
Go ahead, Sam.
Hello there.
Good morning, Sam.
Good morning.
How are you?
Wonderful.
How can I help you today?
I have my key up tomorrow.
I bought it at 2017.
Two weeks after I purchased it,
we had the flood over here.
Just a little bit of water got into
and I cleaned it up.
Everything was okay.
My daughter by mistake called the insurance and they told her that.
I did back from it.
Since then, I never had any problem with it.
Lately, past two to three months,
I have to add the oil to it.
Every month about the quarter oil.
What do you suggest me to do with it?
Well the 17 to 2020 models have had fewer complaints.
plates where Wikipedia had a rough time was in the 2011 to 2014 models that they had
sludge in the engine.
The 13 model in particular frequently found was the worst years for its reliability.
But the 17 to the 20 have had lesser complaints.
I have seen or heard that they've had some oil consumption problems.
If you're at that point, I would probably suggest getting rid of it or trading it in and
moving on from it because there's only going to be a problem beginning to get worse.
Because they have salvaged it at that time when the person said they won't give me that much for it.
No, and you're not going to get very much for it because it is going to be on a salvage
title.
It's salvaged or reconditioned or branded, and in your case it's probably a branded title.
It's not going to be worth very much, but you probably didn't pay very much for it either.
No, I did not.
No, I did not.
Okay.
So you suggest getting rid of it.
Thank you so much.
You're more than welcome just trying to be honest with you and telling you the best course at this point.
All right, that number to call is 800-926-7777.
Let's talk to Ken in Houston.
Ken, what's your question for Steve Dean?
Yes.
Hello.
Yes, good morning, Ken.
Good, yes.
How are you?
Wonderful.
How can I answer any questions for you today?
Yes.
My daughter's 58-bodies coming pretty soon, and she wants the gift of a car.
Self-driving car.
Her preference is BMW.
And I'm ready to spend about $100,000 for her.
What do you recommend?
That's a BMW has.
Self-driving car.
And how old is your daughter going to be?
50.
50.
Oh, 50.
Okay.
I thought you said 15.
I was going to go, okay, we need to have a conversation off the air.
I'm not a real big fan of self-driving cars.
Personally, at this point, I don't know that they've been developed well enough to where there's other obstacles on the road
in our highways that still concern me that it's going to keep my family or myself safe.
Yeah, I can totally understand that.
Let's test it a little bit more before Laura buys one.
Give us a call at 896-7777.
That's 896-7777.
And Steve Dean will answer your questions on the car pro show.
Don't just go and buy what looks good in a TV commercial.
Find out if that car fits how you drive.
Call the car pro show at 1-800-926-7777.
I'm going to make this music my ringtone.
Because every time I hear it, it makes me happy because we're talking about cars.
I love it.
You're listening to the car pro show.
You've got the right channel.
I know you're saying, who's this check-talking?
I am sitting in today.
Steve Dean is in for Jerry Reynolds.
We are still taking your calls and answering questions just like Jerry would do.
But you're just calling us at 896-7777.
We go to Gilbert in California.
Gilbert, what's your question for Steve?
I'm looking at possibly the Toyota pickup at Tacoma,
but I'm wondering if I should look at any of the other manufacturers forward Chevy Nissan.
I would look at the Chevy, either 1,500 or maybe a Colorado,
which is going to be a little more comparable to the Toyota that you're looking at.
So the Colorado, you think is a good quality compared to Toyota?
I think they are much better.
GM has done a much better job than they had in the past.
Toyota, I mean, you really can't go wrong.
The Tundra and the Tacoma are both great trucks and have been for many years.
I personally like the Colorado that Chevy makes.
It's good looking vehicle.
And typically you're going to have a little bit better ride and a little quieter.
Oh, okay.
Gilbert, are you calling anything?
I'm sorry.
Pardon me?
Say again.
Price-wise, are they about the same?
You're probably going to be looking a little bit less on the Colorado than you are the Toyota.
Okay.
Alrighty.
Well, Gilbert, I'm kind of worried.
Gilbert, I'm kind of worried that you need to haul something.
How much weight do you haul?
Nothing really at the time at this moment.
Maybe I'll get a small travel trailer down the road, but that's not even my concern at this time.
Good luck in your quest.
