Welcome to The CarPro Show.
Jerry Reynolds, The CarPro,
was in the auto industry for over 35 years.
And in addition to getting his sixth win from the Texas
Auto Riders Association for Best Radio Show in Texas,
he's a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame,
along with fellow members, Dan Rather and George Carlin.
Su cohost, Todd Chambliss,
just became a member of Applebee's Hall of Fame
for finishing off 84 chicken nuggets
without using a dipping sauce.
Now let's get to straight talk and honest answers
about everything automotive.
On The CarPro Show.
Well, Merry Christmas to you and happy new year coming up.
If you're thinking about doing something, let's talk.
I've got a line open right now, which is rare.
On thechase.com, CarPro Hotline,
which is 800-926-7777-800-926-7777.
If you've waited to talk to me,
you can grab that line right now
and we'll get you on, I promise you.
Takes a little while, I'll take the calls
in the order that they're received.
So sometimes there's a little bit of a wait.
I don't hate rushing anybody off the phone.
But I want to try to get your issue solved
and I'm happy to do so at 800-926-7777.
This is hour number two of three.
So we're on for two more hours,
minus seven minutes and 42 seconds.
And if you lose us or you have to go somewhere,
go to carpro.com and click listen live.
And you can carry us with you wherever you go.
Todd Chambliss made it in for hour number two.
I did and you might be a member
of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame,
but according to Mr. announcer,
I am in the Applebee's Hall of Fame.
So a little bit of a rivalry going on there.
Well, yeah, maybe you win.
Well, eating 82 chicken wings
or chicken nuggets without the sauce,
that's an accomplishment.
I don't think I could do that.
Not many people can.
25 years on the radio.
Yeah, been helping people, sure.
But 82, that's a lot right there.
So I'm just telling you,
I just wanted to make that known.
That's all.
Well, there you go.
Yes, sir.
Our free weekly newsletter came out last month,
this past Monday,
and we're gonna send out another one coming up.
This coming Monday, maybe Tuesday,
just depending on how much I add to it.
We try to keep them short this time of year,
abbreviated some of the things
that you normally see there are not there.
But we try to give the staff,
putting this newsletter together every week,
it's a monumental task.
Amy does so much to make it so pretty and so perfect.
I write all the articles that go in there,
and then she makes it pretty and makes it perfect.
And she does an amazing job.
So, we'll have a shorter version for you this week.
Then the following week,
we'll get back on the normal schedule,
which is every single Friday.
We would love to have you be part of the family.
You can follow along with us all year long
and on our website.
There are things there.
I have more time to tell you things
in the newsletter than I do on the air.
And so the newsletter is an extension of the show.
So I've always said if you like the show,
you're gonna love the newsletter.
And that's true.
You just gotta go through
and pick out what you wanna read
because there's a lot of content there every week.
There's funny stuff, there's our videos of the week.
We've got a Kim Commando.
I give you tech tips from Kim Commando,
who also has a radio show there every single week.
Quick shifts, that's my funny quirky weird things
that happen in the automobile industry
and things that happen that involve cars.
Everything's about cars with the car pro show.
Of course.
Yes, of course.
So we'll get back into all those normal things
plus all the car reviews, all that'll be there.
I will have the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander review
in this week's newsletter.
So no worries there.
Let's go back to the phones
and we'll talk to Adrian in Manville, Texas.
Adrian, welcome.
How could I help you?
Adrian, are you there?
Adrian in Manville, Houston area.
He must have put his phone down or something.
So we'll put him back on hold
and we'll come back to you Adrian.
You'll be very next after Charles in Midlothian.
Charles, welcome.
Hello sir, how are you today?
I'm good buddy, Merry Christmas to you.
Hey, I'm looking at a 24 Jeep Compass Night
or Trailhawk.
Yeah.
And it's only got 12,500 miles on it.
Wow.
And they're asking 25,000 full price.
Holy cow, that's actually a very good buy.
The Trailhawk is a lot of fun.
I love the package.
Is there a reason it would be for sale
for over a month at a regular national dealer
and not sell?
Yeah, you never know.
What dealers do typically,
now not all of them,
but the majority of them will price their cars up
as soon as they get them,
as soon as they're what we call frontline ready.
So it goes through the shop,
goes through the detail shop,
they check it out,
they make any repairs need to be done.
And really that's the only way a dealer can do it.
Otherwise he won't know what to price it at
because he's not gonna know
what he owns that vehicle for
because they hadn't been through the shop yet.
So once it comes out of the shop,
gets out of detail,
take the pictures,
get it on the frontline,
dealers typically price it up.
And then on a weekly basis,
they start to lower the price
and they do it in increments.
Usually, you know, sometimes it's 500,
sometimes it's 1,000.
And then as it gets closer to 60 days
because most dealers also have a 60 day rule
that says, okay,
you've had 60 days to sell it,
it's not sold,
it's going to the auction
for whatever it'll bring.
So they continue to reduce the price.
My guess is a month ago
it was a lot more expensive than it is today.
And look,
the compass has never been a great seller.
It doesn't have good resale value.
It's a good SUV,
but Jeep is never,
I mean Jeep pushes the Wrangler
and they push the Gladiator.
And when you see ads,
that's about all you see.
So they really push this thing.
So it doesn't have great resale
cause it doesn't sell good and new.
So when you find a used one,
especially with 12,000 miles,
it's going to be a bargain.
And I think at 25 grand,
that thing probably stickered close to 40
and with 12,000 miles, 25 grand to me
is a goodbye.
Now, I would offer a little less than that,
maybe offer 24
and see if they'll split the difference with you
and maybe they will
and see where it goes from there.
But I think even at 25, it's okay.
Okay.
Because I was wondering it hasn't dropped to penny
since they got it about four weeks ago.
Well, they're ready to sell it.
They're ready to,
and maybe it's a dealer that prices it
at a good price right off the bat.
Some do that.
But whatever, I bet you after a month,
they'll deal on it.
If you don't know whether or not
you should buy an extended warranty,
call the car pro and find out.
1-800-926-7777.
And welcome back to the car pro show
with Jerry Reynolds, the car pro.
One thing I do like in the,
even though it was a bit abbreviated
this week's newsletter,
the year in stuff is always a good way
to kind of reexamine where we are in life
as far as the folks who protect us,
who are first responders,
the military, police, EMTs,
those folks who do so much work
and in the case of military
who many times are far away from home
and they're not home at Christmas.
And I love the fact that you included
the salute to them in the,
I guess it was three or four minutes
of the salute to soldiers,
the Kevin McCarthy voice was really, really nice.
Yeah, that was great.
First responders getting some love too.
It's all in the newsletter.
So make sure you go check that out,
especially if you are someone you love
or no falls into any of those categories.
It's well worth your time.
Yeah, and forward it to them.
Let them let them experience too.
If you've got a loved one
that's military or first responder,
you know, and I even talked about,
you know, the medical profession
because hospitals don't have locks on the doors.
They never close.
And people still have emergencies
even though it's Christmas day, you know.
That's right.
And there are people there to take care of you.
And you know, I think unfortunately
most of us take that for granted.
Yeah, thank God for those people.
Yeah, no doubt.
Let's talk to Sandy in Houston.
Sandy, welcome.
I am looking for a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve.
Nice.
And I just need to know the best place
to get the best deal.
Okay.
And I live in Cyprus.
Okay.
Tell me your zip code.
77433.
Okay.
So what I did was I went to carpro.com
near the top of the page
and I clicked on Find the Best.
And I clicked on Find the CarPro Certified Dealer
nearest you.
And I chose Jeep
and I put in 77433
and I hit the Get Results button.
And now I'm waiting
because the Wi-Fi here at this radio station
is actually quite slow.
I thought this was all going to be a big spontaneous.
Just be immediate.
Just go right to it.
Yeah, well, it works that way when I'm at home.
Oh, me too.
Unfortunately not here.
So what it came up and told me
was that Patrick Wilson
is only 23 miles from you.
You can see Patrick's picture there.
And yeah, okay.
I just wanted to make sure
that that's the way you would recommend that I go.
Yep, Patrick's been with me a long time.
Gilman, Cricer, Dodge, Jeep Ram.
They've been with me a long time.
I've got a lot of the Gilman dealerships.
Guy there named Dana,
that's the general manager that takes great care
and he supports Patrick
with everything that he does
when it comes to a CarPro Show listeners.
You couldn't be in better hands.
OK.
And that's a great choice of an SUV, by the way.
I like that one a lot.
I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
and not a scratch on it.
Interior is gorgeous.
And I have mixed emotions about getting rid of it.
But how many miles, how many miles you got on it?
Ninety three.
OK, well, it's time.
And look, they're building
Jeeps building a much better vehicle
today than they did 15 years ago.
But this one had everything on it
when actually my son-in-law bought it for me
and gave it to me.
Wow.
So, and I know it was a nice gift.
I would say so.
Is your daughter still married to him?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, good.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's one you want to keep around.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, the other.
Yeah, go ahead.
Was what she drives.
The 350 Mercedes 350
something or something that I was looking at.
So it's about ten thousand dollars
more than the summit, I think.
Yeah, but down the road,
as long as you keep a vehicle,
the maintenance on that Mercedes,
you're going to hate.
They're expensive and I've got a Mercedes.
I know what I'm talking about.
Even even during the warranty period,
you know, just oil changes,
entire rotations and things are expensive.
You just got to factor that in.
And with that Jeep,
you're not going to you're not going to run into that same issue.
It's it's relatively inexpensive
and a lot of different people can work on it.
So once you're out of warranty,
you know, independent garages can work on that Jeep
where they can't at Mercedes.
So overall cost down the road next.
If you keep this one 15 years,
you're going to be in a lot better shape with that Jeep.
And there's a lot less to go wrong with it as well.
I think you're on the right track with the Jeep personally.
And I love Mercedes,
but boy, if I were going to keep one that long,
it would be the Jeep.
I appreciate the call.
Before you buy a new car, truck or SUV,
call Jerry Reynolds, the car pro
at 1-800-926-7777.
Kind of always wanted to say this.
What's that?
Yo, Adrienne.
Welcome to the car pro show.
How you doing?
I'm sorry about it.
I'm sorry about earlier.
Somehow I hit mute on my phone.
I can hear you, you couldn't hear me.
Oh, that's all right, brother.
It happens, I understand it.
What can I help you with?
Yeah.
Okay, I'm driving a 2018 Nissan Titan.
And I went to yours website
and I got a pretty good price on it.
I know Ford,
for her, the Ford dealer in Tombaul,
I think he's at,
They got like $18,000 rebate
on F-150.
Oh, yeah.
If I'm correct.
The Ford rebates are huge right now.
Exactly.
But all the Ford that I found
got a 2.7 EcoBoost.
And all my life I drove V8
and I'm afraid of that engine.
What are you afraid of?
Y esto es lo que es.
Es un turbo twin.
No va a dejar como mi Titan.
Ahora tiene $121,000.
No, Adrián, Adrián.
Stop, stop.
You're back in the 90s.
Now the turbos are very reliable
and the EcoBoost engines
have been around with Ford
since 2010.
It's a great engine.
Great gas mileage.
It's not the engine that you want
if you're towing something
or pulling something,
but if you're just driving it
as a truck, gas mileage is good,
the engine is reliable.
I'll see them go well over 300,000 miles.
You just got to maintain them,
but that's true of every vehicle.
And believe me,
Ford doesn't take chances
with the F-150.
It's their number one selling vehicle
and it's the number one selling vehicle
in the world.
They don't screw around with that.
If they put an engine in,
you bet it's a good one.
And the EcoBoost has been great.
I prefer the 3.5 EcoBoost,
but it's more money.
The gas mileage is good,
but I like horsepower.
Now, if I didn't like horsepower,
I'd definitely get the 2.7.
I would not hesitate to get it.
So get over to Timeball,
talk to Jorge Lopez.
Be sure you don't talk to anybody
but Jorge and he'll take great care
of you.
He's been with me for 20 years.

Hace mucho tiempo
haciendo el ciclo de equidad negativa.
Y en este caso particular
es extremo.
Puedes poner $20,000,
al menos un nuevo explorador
por dos años
y $1,200 a mes.
Ahora,
esa es una gran pregunta.
Es un caso extremo.
Pero, con esto,
después de dos años
ha hecho ella,
incluso con el mundo,
ella podría empezar.
Y creo que
la razón por la que me trae
es que puedes pensar
que estás en el peor lugar
que podías ser,
pero con todo lo que está pasando
ahora, con el fin del año,
y todos los dealers
están orgullosos
para mover ese metal
y para darse los números
y para ofrecer incendios
como ellos hacen.
Tiene que ser el mejor tiempo
para escribir el vehículo
si tienes esa situación.
No hay duda.
Incendios pueden llevar
un montón de ese peor.
Sí.
Y eso realmente,
realmente ayuda.
Pero,
no puedes continuar
con el vehículo negativo
de un vehículo
hacia el siguiente,
hacia el siguiente,
hasta el siguiente,
hay un día de recono.
Absolutamente.
Cuando no puedes hacer más.
Y,
Too often,
I see that
people find themselves
something changed,
a loss of a job
or,
you know, a medical emergency
that comes up
and suddenly,
you've rolled all this negative equity
from one car to the next,
to the next, to the next,
and you're so deep in,
you can't get out.
Yeah.
And I don't want to see you do that.
That's not smart car buying,
which is what I'm all about.
I showed that lady
a path
to getting
even with the world.
She came out of a Mercedes
and went into a Ford Explorer
for two years.
Yeah.
She made three times
the monthly payment
that other people
that bought the same kind of vehicle
were paying.
But after two years of leasing,
she was done.
She could walk away
at the clean slate.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
I love that.
So that's
that's the kind of stuff
we put in the newsletter.
Let's talk to Franco
in Houston.
Franco, welcome.
How can I help you?
How you doing, Gary?
Good, man.
Merry Christmas to you.
Thank you.
Appreciate it.
Quick question.
I was interested in
the Genesis GB 70.
Yeah.
And you know,
just growing up,
I had Hyundai,
you know,
I was around when they came out
and many problems
for many years
were the horror stories.
Oh, sure.
I never really got over the brand
so I stayed away from it.
But I've been doing some research
on Genesis
and I really like what I see
and I just wanted your opinion
on the brand
and the car itself.
I love it.
I love the brand.
I love what they're doing.
I love the
10 year 100,000 mile warranty.
I love the three years
of free maintenance.
I love
the concierge service
that you get with Genesis
where they come pick up
your car if you need something.
They bring you a loaner
and they bring your car back
clean
and pick their loaner up.
I mean,
there's
and I'll tell you this
if you can
and I have this conversation
with a lot of Mercedes
Audi Lexus buyers
if you can get past
the fact that it's a Genesis
and you know
in the back of your mind
it's made by Hyundai
the interior
of a Genesis
is nicer than anything
out there.
Period.
Right.
Yeah, that's the number one
review on YouTube
about the interior.
They are beautiful.
And
and the
the thought
that they put into these vehicles
the little things
in the infotainment system
you know
you can
you hit a button
and
if you're sitting
in your car
relaxing for some reason
for instance
and it's cold outside
you can hit a sounds
of nature
button
and all of a sudden
this beautiful music will come on
and your massaging
seats will go with the music
and the ambient
lighting
goes with the music
I mean it's just little things like that
that you're not going to use
every day but they're there
and yet
you're still getting this vehicle
for typically
five grand or more
under a comparable
luxury vehicle.
Right.
Okay, do you recommend any dealerships
in Houston?
Yeah, I do actually
and if you
if I didn't answer your question
completely
I just want to tell you
that
yes
I'm a big fan
of the
of the brand.
Well you had me sold on the second
I love
it
yeah
I'm going to go
with what you're saying.
I'm very passionate about it.
Genesis of spring
they're right there on I-45 North
talk to Brian Amaya
Brian Amaya

and you can't you can't write it down
but he'll take good care of you
and they do have some good incentives right now
so
you're good you're set
alright well I appreciate it
okay brother I'll talk to you soon
and we go to
Mercedes in California
Mercedes welcome
thank you
how can I help you
I wanted to know
I have a 2022
BMW X3
the dealer is telling me
that the tires need to be replaced
should I be replacing them
up a dealer
or is that like a ripoff
of just trying to understand
my car has about 32,000
miles on it
okay well you did pretty good then
with tires 32,000
by today's standards
on a BMW that's
that's really good
look
dealers are very competitive
on tire prices
I've been a
driver of
Mercedes Porsche
and Range Rovers now for
20 years
I buy tires from the dealer
and I've shopped them
and I've shopped
with tire rack
I've shopped with discount tire
who I love
but I have found that
dealerships are competitive on tires
and there's a simple reason
for it
they want you
to continue to come back
to their service department
for everything that you need
they don't look at
tires as a profit center
they look at it as just a way
to keep you in the family
so what dealers do
is they go out and shop
they'll get on the phone
and they'll call discount tire
or America's tire
same company
or they'll call another tire place
and ask them what you're going rate on tires
and they'll match
that price
so I'd rather have
a dealer to do it
and the other reason
Mercedes is
while my car's there getting tires
they're gonna look at the brakes
they're gonna look at the alignment
and they're gonna make sure
that everything's okay with it
so the answer to the question is
yes
I would trust the dealer to do it
even if it's $10 a tire
more which it's not likely to be
but even if it is
for me it's worth it
to have a technician
who only works on my brand
do the job
that's just me
I do appreciate the call
777
well this week the car pro newsletter
came out just a tad early
to get you ready for the holidays
as Jerry has explained he likes to make sure
have some feedback there going on
that's a new one
Jerry likes to have that in your hand
he likes to work before you leave
for the holidays and next week
is really gonna be about the same situation
Monday or Tuesday
so with that being said
what are you cooking up for next week's newsletter
that comes out on Monday or Tuesday
well I've already told you I got the new Cowboys
the new song about the Dallas Cowboys
I wrote
that's fun the Dallas
show crowd this morning really loved that
and I'm gonna have
a way for you to find
your first
car brochure
so the introductory brochure
yeah the one the dealers give away
right back they did
back in the day
not anymore but
they gave away brochures
and if your first car
was from the 50s, 60s, 70s
even 80s
we're gonna tell you
we're gonna let you look at your very first brochure
I like that, that's pretty cool
alright we got a line open
on thechase.com carpro hotline
if you wanna grab it right now
it's 800 926
77
77 800
926
77 77
and we go to
Upland California and talk to Wayne
Wayne welcome
hey hello Jerry and Todd
how are you guys? hey we're doing good buddy
what's going on
good
hey Jerry I'm looking at
the inyos grenadier
but I was also
Toyota Land Cruiser at the same time
I can't decide
I love the way the grenadier looks
even more but I'm not sure if it's
really for me
the grenadier is different
I reviewed it when it first came out
and
I loved
certain things about it
one thing is I love the company
I really researched
the company
to see what they were all about
because they're not traditionally a car company
they're into a gazillion
they're into a gazillion
other things
and I probably wouldn't
have paid close attention
to the grenadier
except here in Dallas Fort Worth
Sewell
which is a chain of dealerships
universally known
as the absolute best
in the auto industry
as far as customer service
I mean Carl Sewell
wrote a book called
customers for life
and it's been a best seller
now for well over 25 years
and
they took on the franchise
and I went
oh well if Sewell
has got this thing
it's gotta be okay
so I put my hands on one
and I gotta tell you
I don't know that I've driven a car
that got as much attention
as this thing did
but
it was
and this was a 2024 by the way
there were things that it
didn't
there were things that it did not have
that I thought were essential
for a $75,000
SUV
and I noted those
in my review
and
I titled it
about
I went through things that
for instance you couldn't close off
the moon roof
it did not have
air conditioned seats
there were, let's see
there was one other thing
oh, the suspension system
yeah it was, it's different
it's got a rack and pin steering system
turning radius was not
very short
so as a daily driver
I didn't think it was great
let me tell you
that Land Cruiser is
something really special
if I were going to keep a vehicle
for a good while
that's the way I would go
the grenadier it's great
but for me
if I were going to go with a daily driver
it would be the Toyota
for sure
and I've got some great dealers at my website
I hope you have a great weekend
Wayne
It's that point in the show
that we talk about happy listeners
the folks that have taken Jerry's advice
they got a brand new car
and they did it the way Jerry recommends
and they have good stories to share
in Los Angeles
Genesis Santa Monica
was the place that Harvey was going to
interested in a new GV80
says he's an 84 year old man
bought many cars in this lifetime
but have never had
an experience like this
the easiest car that I've ever bought
the dealership was excellent
they were knowledgeable
knew what they were doing
no haggling and he likes that for sure
and Steve was looking in Houston
for an Outback Touring XT
and went to Gilman Subaru Southwest
says he likes the honesty and sincerity
of Jonathan Rachel
the car pro contact there
backed by a great finance and service team
looking forward to a lengthy relationship
with this dealer
you can have that kind of experience too
you just have to follow my process
and trust me when I tell you
it is a process
it starts at carpro.com
under
right there at the top where it says
find a car pro dealer near me
and just hearing the commercials
during the show
it's not enough because I've got a
contact person at each dealership
that I rely on
to fulfill what I say
on the air
and I hold them accountable for it
and that's what makes it work
you can go to Costco
and get in their program
they have no accountability
nothing they just get
and they get paid per vehicle
I don't get anything if you buy a car
from one of our dealers nothing
not a penny, not one red cent
and it's been that way for 25 years
and the reason is
I don't want to be tempted
to send you to a bad dealer
so I make money
it doesn't work that way
and that's the car pro way
we've got another hour to go
if you're on hold don't go anywhere
if we lose you like in Los Angeles
go to carpro.com and click listen live
one more hour
