The Purpose Behind Every Loaf
Hey there! Welcome to The CarPro Show! This is hour number two for us of three, and we've got two more hours to go.
Hello, you may not get both hours in your Market LA. Welcome. Glad to have you joining us here on The CarPro Show,
and we'll be with you there on KNX for this entire hour.
After that, if you don't have us on your radio, you can go to carpro.com and click Listen Live!
If you want to talk to me about your car situation, the phone number is 800-926-7777-800-926-7777.
CarPro.com, that's the website.
And we started last week, we were, we finally had something come together we've been working on.
If you go to carpro.com and you got a car that you need to get rid of, at the top of the page, click Sell a Car.
And there's two ways to do it.
One way is this car, which is an affiliate of ours that we do business with.
They've taken care of many of our listeners.
They'll write you a check and give you an offer on your car online.
And then come get it, bringing you a check.
You hand them the title and it's done.
If you want to get more money for your car and you're not in such a hurry, you can wait four to six weeks.
Might not take that long, but it could.
Then you can consign your car with Retail My Ride.
And they will take it, market it, sell it, take a little bit off the top and give you the balance.
And that's how you maximize the dollars.
So whether you want quick money or the most money, we got you covered either way.
I don't put my name on very many companies.
Period.
Case closed.
It's rare.
I would put my name on both these.
They are great.
Man, that makes it easy, too.
It does.
It really does.
Todd Jambliss is here.
The old roadmaster.
That's right, Bill.
He liked to call him.
Which started, what, four to six weeks ago on the other show, and now it's kind of stuck.
And I'm thinking of getting a hat or something.
Just put it on there.
Put it on a t-shirt.
Absolutely.
Why not?
I'm all for it.
I think it's a good marketing tool.
Next week, we do a show in Dallas, Fort Worth.
It's the original show.
And next week, we're going to be celebrating our 24th year on that station, which is WBAP in Dallas.
And that means we're starting our 25th broadcast year on that station.
Right now, we are 24 and a half years on the air.
That's a car proof show.
Because we were six months at a really crap station in Dallas.
Just as a test, sure enough, it worked out and still is.
So you moved to the big stick six months later and the whole thing started at that point.
Yes.
And next week, and you can join us online for the live for the WBAP show next week.
It's nine to 11 central and it is seven to nine Pacific.
And I tell you that because I believe, I think, we're going to have Kevin McCarthy with us for a segment.
That will be fun.
He's going to call in by phone and then we'll catch up with him.
He's been gone now for a year and a half.
You started with me last September.
That's correct.
A year ago, September.
Yes.
And Kevin retired at that time and a lot of people have asked me how he's doing.
And I'm going to give you an opportunity to find out for yourself.
I think that'd be fantastic.
So if you want to listen in next week from nine to 11, it is WBAP dot com.
And then the podcast for that show goes up at on Tuesdays, usually Tuesday morning at WBAP dot com.
And I'll have I'll have the whatever we talk about.
I'll have that in the newsletter a week, two weeks from today.
So if you miss us, you can grab us there.
Let's go to Joe and Stafford.
Joe, you're next on the car pro show.
How can I help you?
That was a pleasure talking to you, Jerry and Todd.
Thank you, Joe.
I have a 97.
I have a 97 F 250 with a 7.3 liter and it's got a seven foot bed with a camper shell on
there.
It's in good condition.
There's no chip paint or or anything like that.
It's got a couple of little whiskey dents in it, what I call whiskey dents.
Sure.
And my off road tires got maybe 12,000 miles on it.
But I can't find it on Kelly Blue Book to find out what I can.
And it's got a brush bar in the front and heavy duty bumper in the rear.
Nice.
Wonder is it roughly what I could get it for.
Joe, is it four wheel drive?
Yes, it is.
Okay.
And is it a full four doors at an extended cap?
It's a four door.
It's an amazing piece of merchandise.
How many miles on the truck?
265,000.
And if anybody knows, if anybody knows, yeah, and if anybody knows a 7.3 diesel that is just
getting broken.
So that's a workhorse.
You're going to get rid of it, correct?
Well, I'd like to, but I don't want to, you know, just give it away.
You know what I'm saying?
Yes, I do, which is exactly why you are the perfect candidate to contact retailmyride.com.
They know the market on your truck.
They will advertise it.
They'll put it online.
Odds are they'll snag a buyer from somewhere way out of Texas that'll either have the truck
shipped or they'll fly down and get it.
That's what typically happens with a truck like that.
So they're a consignment company.
They'll tell you upfront what they think it'll bring.
They'll tell you then what you will get net for it when it sells.
And you can make a decision based on that.
They take a little bit off the top for their trouble and for the money they spend advertising
the truck, but they are really good at what they do.
And the owner of...
That is retailmyride.com, correct?
Yes, yes.
You can access them from my website, carpro.com, up at the top.
Click on sell a car and you'll see Consign Pro.
And they'll take it and they'll get rid of it for top dollar.
I appreciate the call.
Well, if you're a person that holds on to your vehicle longer, this might be an interesting
thing to read.
We're talking about the news item in this week's newsletter that came out yesterday regarding
JD Power's 2026 vehicle dependability study.
And as you mentioned on the earlier show, this is for what, three years that they did the
actual study?
Yeah, three years.
So, and as you mentioned much, the thing is a good point.
Some people say, well, you know, 90 days in, you still are in that honeymoon period.
And the information that you can glean from a study of cars of dependability and how well
they're operating and how you like it.
It's going to, going to pale possibly with three years in because you've gone through
the whole process of things breaking down or issues with it, right?
Yeah, the honeymoon period's over by then.
You know, even if you love your car at first and it's giving you trouble, you know, you
can't overlook it because it's new and that sort of thing.
But after three years, it's, you're going to get a real true picture.
Yeah.
Whether you're still in love with a car or maybe you're just ready to get rid of it.
Yeah, exactly.
That's the point, yeah.
I've got a line open at 800-926-7777.
It can be yours, 800-926-7777.
And right now we go to West Hollywood and talk to Lewis.
Lewis, welcome.
Yes, good morning, Jerry and Todd.
Thank you, sir.
Yes, sir.
I'm in the fan of yours from day one.
I bought my car on your recommendation.
Good.
I'm a wealthy gay man in West Hollywood and I bought a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq plug-in hybrid
because my building does not have an electric charger and I was buying it right in the middle
of the pandemic and I've been so happy with this car.
I only have 30,000 miles on it after six years.
I only drive about 5,000 miles a year and I'd like your suggestion, Jerry, on how to
upgrade my car to a better one that gets more miles on a charge than this car does, but
it still retains the ability to use gas.
Okay, sure.
This car will only get me about 20 miles for a two-and-a-half hour charge and unfortunately,
that doesn't get me too far, but it would be great if I could get a plug-in hybrid
car that gives a larger amount of miles for a charge, would you recommend?
And I don't know that we've come far enough that you can upgrade enough with low miles
like you have to make it worthwhile, but Toyota, with their plug-ins now, the Prius plug-in
hybrid will get you 50 miles where you are in L.A.
And it's one of the best hybrids, if not the best hybrid ever made.
So, I would take a hard look at it and you know, it's a Toyota, so it's price right.
They started around 33 and if you take the mileage that you get after it switches from
electric to gas, you're going to average around 125 miles to the gallon.
That's amazing.
I know, it is. And you get 50 miles of range and the reason I temper it with where you
are is because you have mild weather. Other parts of the country that might be
listening right now, you know, if it gets really hot, you're probably going to take
that electric only range down to around 40, but where you are, you'll get the full 50
and it's price right. And I've got some really good Toyota dealers there.
Your car is worth real good money with those miles.
So, if I were you right now, while the market is good, unused, I'd look at some
numbers on a Prius plug-in and see if you can make it work for you.
Have you, given the low miles that you drive, have you ever thought about leasing?
Yes, I did lease this car for three years.
And then bought it?
When I first bought it. Yes, because I loved it so much.
Okay.
I didn't want to go through the trouble of shopping again and I'm so happy with it.
Good.
And I'm so happy with your show that when I buy my new car, I'm going to take this car
to a place where I can get maximum dollars for it and I'd like to donate the money to
CarPro USA.
Oh my goodness.
That is so sweet.
People around the world.
Thank you.
Yes, I've worked with some really, really great charities and I would love that.
You made my day, my friend.
Lewis, thank you for the call.
I appreciate it and thank you for that kind gesture.
If you wonder whether an electric car is right for you, talk to the CarPro about it.
Call thechase.com CarPro Listener Line now at 1-800-926-7777.
Colleen and Sherman Oaks, California, you're next.
How can I help you?
Hi.
Hi there.
Hi.
I am 73 years old.
I've always leased my cars through a business.
That opportunity is no longer going to be happening.
Right now, I drive a VW Touse, which I do not like.
I do want to be in an SUV, but a small one is okay.
I also don't want an all-electric.
I'd like a hybrid.
Yeah.
My question is twofold.
At my age, it's just a pay-to-buy or lease.
My second question is, what do you think about the RAV4?
Oh, I love the RAV4.
I just love it.
Oh, you do.
I do, but I love it for its reliability long-term.
If you're going to continue to lease, that's not as big an issue with you.
But the residual values are so good on the RAV4.
If you are going to lease again, and I think it's a good idea.
I've got an article on my FAQ page, Helene, that's titled,
Why Seniors Should Look at Leasing?
And there's a lot of good reasons.
There's a lot of good reasons for that.
So, yeah, I would continue to look and I would certainly have you drive a RAV4
with one of my dealers and see what you think about it.
You will like it better than the Taos.
I promise you.
Yeah, I don't like the Taos at all.
Well, I wasn't a huge fan either.
Mechanically, it's okay.
It's just, it was everything else.
You know what?
I leased this during, I mean, my lease is up in like three months.
And I leased this is probably the worst time ever to lease a car because of the pandemic.
And it's so incredibly expensive.
And my question about leasing or buying is because does it pay to lease,
if this lease is going to be expensive, or does it pay to buy?
You know, that was my big dilemma.
I don't put a lot of miles on as much as I used to for sure.
I mean, this car right now, I'm going to turn it in in three months
and it's got only 16,000 miles.
Well, you'll want to look at trading it.
You may have equity in it and with those miles.
But the reason your payment was high on the Taos was because the residual value is low.
It's the opposite with the RAV4.
Try one of those with one of my diggers.
I think that'll work out much better.
Granted.
And welcome back to the car pros show with Jerry Reynolds, the car pro and me, Todd Chambliss.
One of the big stories from last week that made its way into this week's newsletter was the, of course,
the start stop systems and EPA policy shift that happened.
I guess it was late last week, like Thursday or something, 11th hour when you were getting the newsletter,
trying to get it out and ready to go.
Of course, it's kind of detailed in the new section of this week's newsletter where it talks about, of course,
what happened as far as the start stop system that's going to go away.
We just don't know exactly when, I guess, right?
No, we don't.
But, you know, they'll, if the manufacturers decide and it'll be their decision,
if they decide to do away with it, they'll do away with it after they run out of the systems they already have.
So that could be years?
No.
I mean, it's typically months.
Okay.
All right.
So, and then the other question was based on yesterday's Supreme Court ruling.
Right.
How does the tariffs, the tariffs that the Supreme Court said were illegal.
How does that affect cars?
Right.
And the truth is it doesn't.
And I had to really dive into it to figure it all out.
But the tariffs on cars are under a completely different statute than what the Supreme Court ruled against.
So the tariffs that are out there are still in effect and will continue to be in effect.
It looks like for another 150 days at least, if not more.
Yeah.
So we'll see.
Yeah.
It's what we call in the business a fluid situation.
There are plenty of those too.
Yes, there is.
Okay.
Somebody that was on hold hung up.
So if you don't got it.
Yep.
If you want to grab that line right now, it is 800-926-7777 and we'll go to Jose in Houston.
Jose, welcome.
What can I do for you?
Hey there, Jerry.
Hey, buddy.
I'm listening for the first time.
Caller.
Good to have you.
Thank you, sir.
So I wanted to let you know.
So I've had three infinities, QX-80, well the QX-56 and then the QX-80.
So I had a 05, an 11 and a 17.
The 17 was a limited.
My wife drives it.
And so I'm thinking of downsizing and I was looking into the Lincoln Aviator Black Label.
I've had so much good experience with the Infinity that I hate to like change and not know if I'm doing the right call.
Just because I like the Black Label Aviator, but I don't know about the dependability if I was just trying to get your take on that.
So you typically keep a car, she drives a car, what, five, six years?
Yes.
Yeah, I usually buy and use.
So I'll buy and pre-owned and then, and I pay him, you know, once I pay it off, I drive it and, you know, and then I will look for another one.
But I've just had good luck with the infinities.
When I see a good deal on one, I'll pick it up.
And so that's if I don't do the Aviator, I'm going to go to the newer, the newer X QX80.
But yeah, which is great like in the Aviator.
Yeah.
Yeah, I love the Aviator for a couple of reasons.
I love the seats.
They're the most comfortable seats I've ever been in.
They've got so many different ways to adjust them.
They're 32 way adjustments.
They're heated and cooled.
They massage.
They've got lumbar support and they've got thigh supports.
And you can raise your left thigh or your right thigh up if you're on, you know, if you're driving a long distance, particularly.
Right.
It's an amazing, it's an amazing vehicle.
Super quiet inside and it has been incredibly reliable.
So I think it's a good choice for you.
I would look.
Go ahead.
Sorry, sorry.
And so because I'm kind of like weary about it, do you think the Aviator is a good lease vehicle?
Yeah, I mean, if you're, if you're thinking about leasing to get a lower payment, yes, they lease really well.
And Ford keeps good incentives on the leasing.
If you're, if you're thinking about leasing because you and the reason I hesitated, if you're thinking about leasing because you're afraid of the vehicle, I don't think you've got anything to worry about.
Up to up to 150,000 miles minimum, if not further.
So I'm not, we've got enough history on that vehicle that we know it's good at least to 150,000 and it may go further.
But if you're leased, if you want to lease a brand new one to get the payment down, yeah, it does really well.
And I've got a great Lincoln store there in Houston, Bayway Lincoln.
If you'll talk to Gilbert.
Gilbert Thomas, he's my guy, he's been with me for a long, long time.
They're over on the Gulf Freeway. Good, good people.
I know the owner there of known him for 30 years. Great, great family.
So yeah, I'd look at a certified one and I'd look at leasing a new one and see which one fits you the best financially.
I don't think there's any question you'll love the vehicle.
Okay. All right, man. Appreciate that. Thank you.
Anytime, my friend. You take care.
And Casey Thousand Oaks, California, you're up next on The Car Pro Show. Hello, state Casey.
Hey, Jerry, how are you?
I'm good, brother. What's going on?
We're on the long time listener.
You are back in June of 24.
I went to Woodland Hills Honda and I leased a new Honda CRV hybrid.
Actually, I got 40,000 miles.
One of the best cars I've ever leased at this point.
But I appreciate your input on that.
I'm calling because my wife has the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.
We've had two issues, three issues with the engine warranty.
And I like to get her into a hybrid.
And I hear tell that Subaru has come out with a couple of miles that are hybrid.
And I just we had real good luck with one Subaru.
And I wanted to find out from you what your thoughts were on any Subaru hybrids.
Oh, I love them.
And it's I've watched them really closely because their first attempt at hybrids was unsuccessful.
It was it was horrible.
And that's my concern.
And they dropped out of the hybrids for a good long while.
And then they just came back with the hybrid a few years ago.
And so far, it has been terrific.
And I would with with everything else Subaru's got going.
It's so good.
I would tell you that I think it will be I think that it's a terrific value.
Now, yesterday's free weekly newsletter.
I had a story about Subaru actually lowering the price on the 2026 Forester hybrid.
And that surprised me a little bit.
But they the Forester hybrid now starts at thirty four seven.
And that makes it one of the best buys out there.
That's about a two thousand dollar drop in price.
So if I were you, I would look at that one.
And Subaru is making they make a great hybrid and they make a great SUV.
I think it's probably the safest SUV you could put her in in that price range.
And I got good dealers for Subaru at my website.
I appreciate the call Casey.
You've heard me talk.
Every week, there are some brand new stories and what Jerry calls the quick chefs.
It's stories about the auto industry along with his commentary.
Normally, there's three or four.
I think there's like five here in this one.
There's all kinds of great stories.
The repo man that apparently had to go and collect back 41 patrol cars repossessed.
That which, you know, even even those can get repossessed.
I guess the the punch, the I guess the the guy that drove into a marijuana dispensary
at exactly four twenty in the morning, ironically, didn't really get away with much.
And then the story I like the best, the rideshare passenger that learned that
if you wanted a C in the car, that's five bucks extra.
You got to pay for that.
It's like everything now is either subscription or they're getting, you know,
you're getting double charged and extra charged and all that kind of thing.
Everybody's after your money.
They really are sad.
Yeah, let's talk to Matt in Stockton, California, Northern California.
How are you doing, Matt?
Well, yeah, you're on the air, buddy.
We're going to help you with.
Question about insurance.
OK.
OK.
There's just no there's no Pat answer for that.
And I think what you're going to have to do is get online.
This is for anybody that that shopping insurance and honestly, you should shop your insurance.
A lot of people don't.
They get they get in the habit of doing business with one company without looking at others.
And they all they all rate differently.
There's no set rate on a particular kind of car.
So luckily, it's easy to do online nowadays.
There are websites that will shop for you.
If you tell them your situation or and the only problem with doing that, Matt,
you're going to end up getting a lot of emails and phone calls from insurance companies.
One in your business.
I mean, that's the downside.
But the good news is you can you can you can shop, you know, 10 different companies and
you're going to get 10 different quotes and then go with the one that's the cheapest bearing
in mind.
Sometimes you get what you pay for.
I I I'm not I'm not a huge fan of the insurance industry.
I think that they I don't know how to say this without offending anybody in the insurance business.
But I think they take advantage of people.
I think they take advantage of situations.
I think they look for any reason to raise your rates even if you've been with them for 25 years.
I get irritated when I see commercials for insurance because it's always the same thing.
We saved this client four hundred and twenty nine dollars a year.
We saved this client three hundred and fifty dollars a year.
We saved this one a thousand dollars a year.
What I want to know is who pays the claims?
Who pays their claims the best?
Show me that information.
And I've looked into that before and and typically believe it or not.
Amica is the one that most people are happiest with.
So I'm personally willing to pay a little more to a company that pays their claims.
And that's going to be there for me when I have a claim.
Because most of us go decades without making a claim.
But we're paying that premium the whole time.
So there's no real answer to your question.
I wish I could be more help.
Always like the happy listener stories.
The folks who follow Jerry's advice on their next vehicle.
And they have a great story to tell a dealership that I have actually used.
That is Park Place Lexus Plano and Chris Bruder Dallas Fort Worth.
Dallas Fort Worth area.
This was Hannah checking in saying that she recommends Park Place Lexus.
It was a drive for me, but it was worth it.
I was so worried about buying a car being taken advantage of.
Park Place was wonderful.
Apparently they should have walked through the whole purchase.
And they patiently explained everything to them.
She got exactly what she wanted at a fair price.
Can't thank you enough for making this easy for me.
And thanks to Chris Bruder for taking care of me.
That is true.
The service there is outstanding.
Just like at many, if not all of your dealerships that you recommend.
But I had a great experience there.
Yeah.
They've been with us very long time.
She was such a sweet lady.
She's a senior citizen and she lives on the very far south side of Dallas.
Okay.
That was a piece down the road.
And then she had to drive to the very north tip of Dallas.
And if you're in Dallas, you know about Dallas traffic.
If you're not, it's not good.
Yeah, it's not.
And so bless her heart.
She was really nervous about making the trip.
But once she made it, she was sure happy that she did.
And that's what you always contend.
You know, it may not be the dealership around the corner,
but if you drive a little bit, it's going to be worth it.
Yep.
And it is.
I promise you that.
It all starts at carpro.com toward the top of the page.
There's a green button that says find a car pro certified dealer near you.
And when you do that, put your zip code in.
You will, you'll find out the closest dealer to you of a particular brand.
Email them, get your VIP certificate back in your inbox,
and you'll be on the road.
If you're on hold, stay there.
We've got another hour to go.
I want to talk to all of you.

You're shopping for bread,
pushing your cart down the aisle of unremarkable beige.
At this moment, you question your existence.
Then you hear it.
A guitar-wielding siren in a sea of sameness.
It's Dave's killer bread.
Rockin' the bread aisle with an organic rhapsody of taste and texture.
Crank to 11.
Welcome to Bread Nirvana.
Dave's killer bread.
Bread amplified.
