The Kia Telluride is a family SUV with three rows of seats. This episode is about the new 2027 version, which the host says is bigger and packed with more features than before.
The Buick Roadmaster is an older, large luxury car made by Buick. It’s known for being roomy and comfortable, and people talk about it because it’s a classic model. The conversation is usually more about the car’s history and character than about modern features.
The Ford Bronco Sport is a small SUV from Ford. It’s designed to be practical for daily driving and can handle rougher roads a bit better than a typical crossover. Here, the host is talking about it as an easier-to-use option for carrying stuff.
The Ford F-250 is a big, heavy-duty pickup truck. It’s the kind of truck people buy when they tow or haul a lot, but the speaker is saying they don’t really need that level anymore.
Employee pricing is a special discount that comes from a manufacturer’s employee benefit program. It usually means you can pay less than normal dealership pricing, which is why the host says the Bronco Sport becomes much more affordable.
“Holding their value” means the vehicle doesn’t lose its resale price as fast as others. The host is saying the Maverick tends to be worth more when you go to sell or trade it later.
“2.0” is shorthand for a 2.0-liter engine. It’s a way to describe the engine size, and in this case it’s part of the Maverick’s specific setup the buyer is considering.
A three-cylinder engine is an engine with three cylinders. It can be more fuel-efficient than bigger engines, and when it’s turbocharged it can still feel strong.
Some cars have multiple cameras that show different views around the car. That can make parking and tight maneuvers much easier because you can see what’s nearby.
Blind spot monitoring helps you notice cars that are in your blind spots. It usually warns you when you’re about to change lanes and something is next to you.
Leasing a used car means you rent the car for a set time with monthly payments, instead of buying it. You don’t own it, but you may be able to get a lower payment than a new-car lease.
Depreciation is how much a car’s value drops as soon as you buy it. “Eat the depreciation” means you’re the one who loses that money when the car is worth less soon after purchase.
A third-party lease company is a company that arranges the lease and handles the financing. The host is saying some of these companies may have ways of pricing or managing used-car returns that can make the deal less favorable.
Residual value is what the leasing company predicts the car will be worth at the end of the lease. If they predict it will be worth more, your monthly payment is usually lower.
Interest rate is basically the price you pay for financing. Leasing and buying can have different interest rates, which changes how much you pay each month.
The GMC Sierra EV is a pickup truck that runs on electricity instead of gasoline. It’s meant for people who want a truck for work or hauling but prefer electric power. It often comes up when comparing different electric truck options and how they measure up to regular pickups.
Car
Mercedes ML350 diesel
This is a Mercedes-Benz SUV called the ML350, and the host says theirs was the diesel version. When an SUV gets front-end damage, the repair costs can get high fast—especially if sensors and bumper-related parts are involved.
The Mercedes-Benz ML-Class is a mid-size luxury SUV. The ML350 diesel is one version that uses a diesel engine for strong pulling power. It may come up in conversation because owners share day-to-day experiences, including problems or accidents.
“Totals it” means the insurance company decides it’s not worth repairing the car. They usually pay you based on what the car is worth instead of fixing it.
A body shop is where cars get fixed after crashes—like bumper and paint repairs. The host is saying the cost can be surprisingly high even for damage that looks small.
“Liability only” means your insurance mainly pays for damage or injuries you cause to other people. It usually costs less because it doesn’t cover repairs to your own car.
A salvage title means the car was once considered a total loss by an insurance company. Even if you fix it and drive it, it usually lowers the car’s resale value and can affect future insurance or financing.
They mention a dealership called Sewell BMW of Plano. The caller’s point was that the dealership treated them very well while they were trying to buy a used car.

Well if you're wondering what I've been driving this week it is the all-new
2027 Kia Telluride and it has been a very pleasurable week especially because
I've gotten to drive this one more than I typically do in a one week review for
one this is the only car I had to review this week so I wasn't switching time
between two different cars and I was spending some time at my lake house
which is 90 miles one way from where I typically live so I've been back and
forth and boy this thing is a real real joy that review will be up in the free
car pro weekly newsletter that is coming out next Friday we had one come out
yesterday with lots of good information and lots of you took advantage of
reading about the incentives that are out there right now which by the way are
very very good if you're in the market so if you're thinking about making a
move let me help you it won't cost you a penny I'll be happy to give you the very
best advice that I can after being in this industry for many decades 809 to
677 77 is the phone number you can get in right now usually that is a problem
but at early parts of the show you can get through and that's right now 800
926 77 77 so I know my roadmaster partner over there has been jealous all
week because I've had the new bigger larger longer taller Telluride with more
stuff in it and all the updates and everything yeah I've been I've been
eyeing that I you drove it Thursday and because of our schedule because we
record commercials on Thursdays before the weekend show yes and was eyeing
that as I walked in and I said I hope that Jerry keeps that through Saturday so
I can at least take a look inside of it and we'll make that happen I would love
that of course I'm always looking to get like a different vehicle the one to
tell you what I have is great it's a 24 but they add new stuff to it there's
new there's new gadgets and new things and I'm always sort of like interested
in that stuff yeah and boy I'll tell you what this one does not disappoint yeah
I have been real real pleased with the fuel economy on this thing the the big
thing that I noticed they want getting behind the wheel was the quietness
inside it is whisper quiet inside that really interests me too by the way yeah
big and you know the Japanese and the Koreans have not always paid close
attention to quietness and I think they've it's something they figured out
Toyota is doing a better job with it Honda is doing a better job with it now
I can see that Kia and Hyundai are doing a better job with and that you know
that stuff like that comes over time with manufacturers as they do more
surveys and they learn what Americans want because if you're a Japanese based
car company you know it's easy to to design your cars based on where you live
and bunch of engineers that live there so the quietness of this one was
noticeable and it's just it's such a well-equipped super-loaded all-wheel
drive top of the line for 59 5 still amazing they can even charge that it
really is it really is all right 800 926 77 77 that is the phone number here and
we'll kick it off with Joe and Joe is calling from Halbert Texas Joe welcome
how can I help you sir well I was just wondering your thoughts between the
Ford Maverick and the Bronco Sport I've got a Ford Maverick now but if I was
going to trade you know I've been kind of looking at the Bronco Sport a little
bit so it's you know I'm not I don't typically get people that are shopping
either SUV or pickup because they know if they if you need a pickup
pickup are you just you've had a Maverick so you just not use the bed very
much not a whole lot I came out of a of a large truck Ford F-250 and we sold our
travel trailer and I don't do a lot of hauling but you know every now and then
maybe a couple of bags of you know rock salt or topsoil or something but not a
whole lot of hauling yeah and that would fit easily into the back of the Bronco
Sport what are you hoping to gain Joe what would be your reason for trading
well I've got 40,000 miles on the Maverick now and you know when we get if I
go down and pick up groceries and such as that it'd be nice just to have a little
you know a dry area in the back okay all right now you're making sense I get it I
see where you're headed all right so the Maverick Sport has been a great SUV it's
priced extremely well right now we've got employee pricing through July the
7th and that makes the Bronco Sport extremely affordable and I will tell
you that the Mavericks are holding their value really well do you have a
hybrid or you have the regular gas engine now I've got the got the 2.0 with
package on it okay great that's a great package I I think I think it is
certainly worth looking at numbers while we've got employee pricing because
that makes such a huge difference are you in the Austin area yeah near
fredex barred okay so you can go to San Antonio or Austin right yeah so I think
probably I could send you either place I got covert Ford in Hutto Ryan
Stathos is my man there he's been with me for a long long time and then I've got
in San Antonio I've got McCombs Ford West Henry Finley is the general manager
there and he's been with me for over a decade really good guy so either place
you want to go they're both at my website what's the difference in the
engine do they have the same engine no the the Bronco Sport is gonna have two
different engine sizes 14 cylinder 13 cylinder believe it or not
that gets really good gas mileage so and both of them have been reliable I had
we had a caller on the Dallas show earlier we were discussing three cylinder
engines and I had said that my biggest concern was whether or not it was gonna
have enough power and I was shocked at that three cylinder how much power of
course it's turbocharged like everything else but it does really well it
does get some great gas mileage I would recommend you drive both engines and see
which one you like the most I appreciate the call Joe your trade could be worth
a lot or not find out which by calling Jerry Reynolds the car pro at the
chase.com car pro listener line at 1-800-926-7777
welcome back to the car pros show Jerry Reynolds the car pro and me Ty Chambliss
the old roadmaster this week's classic car of the week is listed right there on
Facebook for you just like we do every single week go to Facebook and look up
car pro if you need a direct link to it you can go to the bottom of car pro dot
com and get that link and go and check out the the the car that's gonna be at
the Columbus Barrett Jackson auction June 25th to 27th coming up pretty quick
that'll be across in the block there meantime guess the correct year making
model if you are correct you go into a digital hat with a whole bunch of other
correct guesses and a random drawing happens you could be the winner of your
very own custom auto heat shield that's perfect for this to anytime of year but
man when it's hot out there you're gonna want that auto heat shield for sure
oh there's no doubt about that and we have a question of the week every single
week here on the show and I'd love to hear your answers this week the question
is what's the one feature you can't live without on your car what's the one
thing you just got to have and you wouldn't give it up and for you Todd
it's a I'm so spoiled with the the tell you right I had the 24 the cameras on
there there are three different camera angles the front back and then the top
view I don't know if I can have another car without that yeah I love I love the
cameras too and you know unfortunately a lot of people don't use them yeah the
way they should especially when you've got the guidelines that you know they
help you park and everything oh those are invaluable night and day absolutely
night and day for me it's blind spot monitoring oh that's important to you
yeah I gotta have that yeah let's go to Russ in Plano Texas in the Dallas
Fort Worth area Russ welcome to the car pro show how can I help you yeah good
morning Jerry I was went to your website I was interested in leasing a an older
model maybe two to five year old something that possibly had been on
lease and would come off been paid off whatever and then it was back out and
be able to lease a used car I went to some AI sites and they indicated that
that's plenty available I went to some of the car pro dealers and immediately
they want to start talking about leasing a new car and I don't want to do that
okay hold on stop right there because okay I want to make sure that you
understand what I'm going to say what is your motivation for
leasing I'm in my late 70s I probably I don't want to buy or lease a new car
because I don't want to eat the depreciation that goes immediately with
grabbing one of those and so I thought that if there were cars coming off
lease that were available I wanted to get something that was you know three to
five years old also I think they're in looking at those cars my feeling is
that something that's been around a while maybe in the second or third year of a
model they certainly have worked out more of the bugs than in brand new cars
and that sort of thing okay so typically people lease because they want a lower
payment okay is that when you compare a used lease to a new lease typically
speaking then brand new car is a lower payment than a used one that's why you
don't see a lot of used car leasing because it doesn't make any sense and I
get your reasoning as far as you know get the bugs worked out and things like
that but there's the other side too which is maybe that car is on the market
because they had a bunch trouble with it so maybe you're buying somebody else's
or leasing somebody else's troubles I okay I have never been proponent of
leasing used cars because the payments are artificially too high see you
your monthly payment is based solely on the residual value which is their
prediction of what that car's worth three years down the road if you're
talking about a car that's used already that residual values low plus there's
no incentives on it if you look at I guarantee you 90% of the time if you're
looking at a three-year-old used car to lease and a brand stinking new car to
lease the payment on the new car is going to be cheaper for the exact same
amount of time so yeah that's what the guys that your dealers were saying that
because it's true yeah that doesn't make sense to me Jerry and just you know
from the standpoint if you go in with and they base it on MSRP if just in
Russ Russ can you hang on with me can you hang on with me for a minute I'll come
back to you right after we come take this quick break almost
everybody thinks they know about cars but the car pro Jerry Reynolds actually
does know call the car pro show now on the chase dot com car pro listener line
at 1-800-926-7777
all right Russ and playing those on the line and I wanted to keep him on for a
second because I get this question pretty often we're talking about the
difference between leasing a new car and leasing a used car and I never
recommend leasing a used car because the payment is the same on a new car and
Russ your your comment that didn't make sense makes sense to me I get that it
would I get that it would look and sound stupid that you know if a new car
and a used car if is you know $10,000 cheaper than a brand new one
how could the payment be the same but the bottom line is that with the with
the new car you've got incentives and you've got a car that after three years
it's going to have 35 to 45,000 miles depending on your contract with a used
car you're starting with one that is got 35 to 45,000 miles that doesn't have
near the value at the end that the new car did so lease companies third party
lease companies which I never recommend third party lease companies finagle
ways to make a used car lease so they can get rid of the cars that come back I
get that but the the one thing that you're wanting to avoid which is
depreciation leasing is the absolute way you do that so you're only paying for
the best part of the car you're paying if the residual value of the cars 50%
then your payment is based on the other 50% and that's why the payment is so
low plus the interest rates are lower on leases and they are on purchases and
then that's what didn't make sense to me Jerry was the
fact that if you take a new car 40,000 for sake of argument MSRP and the
leasing company thinks it's going to be worth 60% of that in three years yeah so
that's $24,000 now at the end of three years it looks like the $24,000 would be
the new MSRP and you would base the lease on that number no no it doesn't work
that way the car's worth X amount of dollars in the residual values often are
way off sometimes they're higher sometimes they're lower but if you're
lease lease a brand-new one rush that's the way to go if the last car you bought
made your blood pressure reading higher than your SATs let's fix that call Jerry
Reynolds the car pro on the chaise.com car pro listener line at 1-800-926-7777
and you're listening to the car pro show with Jerry Reynolds I'm Todd Chambliss
the most clicked item and this week's newsletter that was actually released on
Friday it's Leno's law this is a call that it's actually California Senate
bill 1392 but it's called Leno's law because Jay Leno has had a long-running
effort to modernize the way California does their smog testing rules since he
has so many classic vehicles that affects him directly he's got a lot of them a
big warehouse full of them and it's kind of gaining momentum it's been shot down
quite a bit but I think all the PR and him getting behind it that might have a
chance to do something because these classic cars they're not daily drivers
and they should have a different kind of set of rules compared to a daily driver
cars that basically and they should they shouldn't have to have a missions test
in things that other cars have because they're barely driven right most of the
time they're driven short distances to car shows and parked and you know people
sit there with the car all day long right and people come by and look at it and
they talk about it and it's a lot of fun absolutely it should definitely be a
different set of rules there's no doubt about that we're gonna try to get Jay on
the show oh wouldn't that be a coup yeah and see if we can that'd be great if we
can get him to talk about his law there the the one article not enough people
clicked on yesterday and if you're a subscriber and you didn't look at this
go back and look at it was the Kim Commando section yeah because she blew me
away with some research that she did on how insurance companies use artificial
intelligence to deny your claims and how fast they do it and the huge numbers of
people that do not do not appeal that at all I mean it's staggering it is
absolutely staggering the numbers that she came up with and then as if that
wasn't enough she gives you a prompt on what to put into AI to appeal it and the
prompt is is I mean as you well know with your experience in AI that is the
difference between getting something done the way you want and just something
that's not going to be helpful yeah I'm just so important it's everything yeah
it's everything and you learn that the more you use AI and I'm I'm I'm getting
good at it but it you know it's still like it makes mistakes oh sure you have
to go back and redo it and refine it and different versions you can use AI to
get the right prompt which is kind of interesting that you that you could do
that I've learned that here lately and it's helpful yeah it really is it really
is 971 what is the one
feature that's on your car that you could not give up or put another way
what's the one must have feature for the next car that you get either way I want
to hear from you 971 Tom
Haines posted on our Facebook page in answer to the question I love start
stop said no one ever yes when is that going away it's coming up
pretty quick we're gonna have to we're gonna be able to stop dealing with that
thing fairly soon Helen in Gonzalez Texas welcome to the car pro show Helen
we're gonna help you with Jerry I'm thinking about buying a new car I'm
driving a 2010 GMC right now yeah and I've driven a small either a canyon or
Colorado for the past 40 years and I'm probably gonna buy a new one and I don't
want to buy if a body major body changes coming up and what actually is the
difference between those two vehicles you know just the way they look I mean
that the GMC's got a specific look about it whether whether you're talking
identical the canyon in the color yeah they are closer than say the in the
half-ton trucks the GMC Sierra versus the Chevy Silverado yeah the canyon and
the Colorado are close together you know it's it's there's no mechanical
differences in them whatsoever the Colorado is gonna be less money you'll
get a little more interior trim with the cut with the canyon that's just it's
the canyon is an upscale Colorado so you get a little more wood you get a
little nicer materials inside more soft touch stuff to the fingers and your arms
and that sort of thing but to justify the difference in the price I have
trouble with because mechanically they're the same they're there and they
drive exactly alike so you know it just depends the the the one plus side of GMC
typically is resale value and because there are fewer of them on the market
used on any given day than there is its counterpart Chevrolet then when there's
more of anything on the market it tends to drop the prices so the GMC's hold their
value a little bit better now if you're good if you're trading in something
that's got a 100000 miles or more it don't make any difference they're
gonna be worth the same but if you trade within a few years two or three years
for instance then resale value something to take into consideration I I would do
you think their ride is about is this is the same yes a hundred percent they're
exactly the same so where it were you were you okay what's the closest big
town to you San Antonio okay I've got a fantastic Chevy dealer
in shirts and Sarah went in Chevrolet Daryl Dixon is my man there he is just
fantastic one of the greatest guys that I've ever worked with on this show in
25 years and talk to him about a Colorado and let's see what he can do for you
you'll love him he's at my website again it's and Sarah went in Chevrolet in
shirts right outside San Antonio Daryl Dixon and tell him I sent you and he'll
be he'll take amazing care of you there you go that opened the line at 800 926
77 77 800 926 77 77 one of the questions of the week I had this week really got a
lot of attention yeah it's all that what's the trading value of my car I you
know a lot of people they tell me and they say well I looked online and
and auto trader there's a bunch of cars just like mine there for X amount of
dollars well that's their asking price right we don't know what it actually
brought yeah we don't know if it actually sold did it bring that the price they
paid for it was not the same price they're listing on there not typically
especially at dealerships right so the best way that I knew how to tell you
because I get the question all the time how do I find out what my car is really
worth it's worth what somebody will write a check for absolutely and let me tell
you Kelly Blue Book don't write checks nope they don't so at my website carbro.com
you can click on sell a car at the top of the page and you get a online cash offer and a good
one pretty quick too it really quick and it will tell you exactly what somebody's wanting
to write a check for and that'll give you a good baseline to what your car is worth
you may think you know a lot about cars but you may also think you can quarter back the
Dallas Cowboys get real and get expert advice about the cars from the car pro show called
thechase.com car pro listener line now at 1-800-926-7777
we were just talking about AI on the air just a few minutes ago it reminded me of another
newsletter article that came out on Friday about how AI is changing car dealerships
and it's from someone that you know Trent Cannon yeah they said a Houston right yeah great guy
and he has a great article and some things to look for I mean we know AI is already a part of our
lives now AI not only is going to be affecting how you communicate if not already with the service
department but it may eliminate the commission based salesperson and Trent thinks it's a
possibility you'll see I don't know that the relationship and that's going to be the same
I mean we'll have to wait and see obviously but a lot of good stuff in there that you can go and
check out if AI is on your radar and of course how it relates to you buying a car and that
experience is going to be something we'll have to wait and see how that yeah well I'm going to be
watching that because that could be a game changer for the auto industry and it
could be a good one or it could be a bad one yeah certainly good I mean my gut feel is you know
people still want to buy cars in a showroom floor they want they want to be serviced they
want to trust who they're buying from they want to know that they're being told properly that's
why our vetting process for all the dealers that are part of this show it's so stringent and boy I
tell you I'm not sure I can achieve that with AI yeah I get it we'll see it's something I'm watching
let's go to San Diego California and talk to Ray right how can I help you my friend
well you've helped me in the past and I appreciate that that having bought a Mercedes ML350 diesel
yeah and last week it got hit in the parking lot and pulled the front bumper off and I didn't
think it was a big deal because the car was drivable but you know it totals it totals right
it totals it yeah that's I'm seeing that more and more today because the cost of repairs and parts
are so high right now is you know thing minor damage that all of us think is minor turns out to be
I mean the basic rule of insurance is 80 percent of value and I'm going to tell you you can't
get out of a body shop today for less than five grand with just about anything so you know that's
that's part of it so what are we going to replace it with right well I want to keep the car and I'm
thinking of going to you know another shop that'll just piece the bumper back together and I don't
care if the sensors work or not because it's it's totally drivable it's you know 99 functional
how many miles around it they just repair the cosmetic damage but I'm wondering then you know
how do I deal with my insurance company and you know what kind of I mean do I do I have to
let them total it and then buy back on the salvage title yeah you do you they're gonna offer you
two things they're gonna give you one price with them taking the vehicle away and disposing of it
which they'll send it to an auction and somebody somebody will rebuild it somewhere
or they'll give you a offer and you keep the vehicle what how many miles are on the Mercedes
a 94,000 2013 I'd say 94,000 that thing will run forever that's exactly what I would do I would
get it cosmetically fixed I drop your insurance down to liability only save you some money there
and then drive it until it you know it just falls apart that that engine is that engine will last
much longer than the vehicle itself so and and it's you know I've loved the car because the gas
mileage is great yeah you know once the prices go back down hopefully here soon but in the meantime
you know it's a great travel vehicle it's got a tow hitch on it you're on the right track
you're on the right track and you know it's not going to have much value with the salvage title
down the road but who cares you got a great car it's got a lot of life left in it and you're
driving it dirt cheap whether you want an SUV a truck or what is it called oh yeah a car get free
expert advice from Jerry Reynolds the car pro call him now on the chase dot com car pro listener
line at 1 800 926 77 77 what's happy listener time here on the car pro show sometimes the happy
listener doesn't walk away with the new car they were looking for the story is uh it's a from
gosh I don't even see the guy's name on here um max uh no it's not max no anyway uh he's he said
this came from you you sent this to me I didn't send you his name because it's a little sensitive
okay it is sensitive the the the rub is the guy was looking for a pre owned rx 350 he called
Sewell BMW of Plano and I mean the headline is they treated him like a king when he walked in
thinking I don't know if I can even get a car because he had his credit took ahead after COVID
had to shut down his business and his credit rating of course wasn't where he wanted it to be
so just imagine walking in and you're like well I don't even know if I can get a car I need one
and they treat you like you're a king yeah at this place that really is the story that's the mark
of a good dealership it absolutely is so they're going to treat you well like you are the top of
the heat whether you're somebody who is attractive as a buyer or somebody that has some issues they've
got to deal with he said that they treated him so well and when he's ready to go and get the vehicle
he's definitely going to call them up and he wanted to thank you for your advice on the show
your weekly newsletter your big network of car pro dealers in the DFW area to choose from
and he gives props to Sewell BMW Plano and Park Place of Plano too saying they've treated him
so well so that's the thing even if it's not your time you know the thieves folks are not
going to treat you in fear like you're inferior and you can have confidence knowing that you're
going to get the best situation oh no doubt and they got him approved they did yes but but the
interest rate that the lender that they got him approved with was so high it put the payment out
of reach and he was smart enough to know I don't need to do this absolutely right he's trying to
do the right thing trying to rebuild his credit and he didn't want to overextend himself and so
I say to him great move absolutely great move and thanks Sewell knowing the right time to trade
is a huge thing right now as the car pro Jerry Reynolds on the chase.com car pro listener line

About this episode
The show kicks off with the host’s week with the all-new 2027 Kia Telluride, calling it bigger and more updated than before. From there, they compare compact options like the Ford Maverick and Bronco Sport, touching on whisper-quiet cabins, turbo efficiency, and practical trade-in timing. A big segment turns to leasing math—residual value, incentives, and why used-car leases can land close to new. They also cover classic-car smog rules (“Leno’s law”), insurance AI claim denials, and how salvage titles affect value.
