And I love helping people.
That's what I've been doing.
On to air now.
In my 25th broadcast year.
My Yodeling partner over here.
Yeah, we spoke too soon.
Did we not?
Being nice to you Todd.
Not always going to just be nice the whole day.
No.
He was giving me a little grief.
Cleaning the curtains and all that kind of thing.
Yeah, cleaning the curtains.
That's my job. I'll do it.
Hey, somebody's got to do it.
Exactly right.
I have been driving this week.
A 2026 Ram
truck.
It's the three quarter ton 2500 series
with the
big old Cummins diesel under the hood.
I've loved this truck
because I've always wanted
especially in the past five years
because these trucks have gotten so high.
I had a
2025 Ram
Laramie
Longhorn diesel
probably a couple of months ago.
Topping out over
$100,000.
And
I just thought to myself
how are people affording
these big trucks?
And
because if you got to pull 15,000
pounds or more
you got to have a three quarter
ton. I recommend the diesel always
in those cases.
But finally Ram
made a truck
that looks fantastic
on the outside. Good looking
truck. The review will be a next
Friday's free newsletter.
But
it doesn't have
all the frills.
It's got cloth seats.
It's got a bench seat in the front
instead of captain's chairs.
So you could put six people
very comfortably in this truck.
It's like a standard package inside.
But it looks so good on the outside
with big wheels. It's four wheel drive
topping out
on the window sticker even with navigation
at
$75,000.
You know there's probably
a better market for people
like you mentioned if it's over a hundred
there are a lot of folks that's priced out.
I need to have that power.
That is affordable to me.
And that's what I think this truck is for.
Now
if you're pulling 14,000
pounds and you went with the V8
that's available in this truck
because
the engine charge for the diesel
is
$13,000.
So if you went with the gas
and you got a discount
and an incentive for what you're
going to get
you can get this truck down
in the
high 50s.
And that's really
marketable these days.
I know we were talking earlier
about $75,000 being
a bargain for a truck.
It's kind of hard to imagine that.
But I mean you see where we are now
where things have gone. You're in the
50s like that for that kind of vehicle.
That's a big deal.
Oh yeah it is.
I think it's going to fit a good number
of people who want that
truck that doesn't look like a work
truck but it is a work
truck.
Let's go to the phones and we'll talk
to Richard in China,
Texas. Richard I don't
know where China, Texas is.
I've lived here my entire life.
It's about
90 miles east of Houston.
Oh okay.
Got it now.
What could I help you with my friend?
Well
we have a navigator now
and looking
to get another one because this one's got
95,000 miles on it.
Yep.
And I didn't know
if they had any good incentives
or
good
loan values or what? Yeah they do
actually. And this is the time
of year
where
the luxury brands
in particular
up their incentives
because a lot of people buy luxury
cars in November and December
and typically it's for tax
reasons.
But I
will tell you I had the
2025 navigator
for review
maybe
and man
it is wonderful.
And the interesting
thing about this segment is
you've really only got three
players. You got navigator,
you got Escalade
from Cadillac and you got the
QX80 from Infinity
which I had just
last week.
And it was wonderful
too.
But I will tell you
if I were in the market
today personally and I wanted
a big one. I've had big SUVs
before. I've had Escalades, I've had
Yukon's.
I've never owned a navigator personally
but if I were going
for a big SUV
right now
it would be the navigator.
And the main reason
is the seats.
It's got the most comfortable
seats I have ever
sat in.
32 way adjustments
in the thing. Look at my
review. Richard go to
carpro.com
and at the top put navigator
in the search bar
and it will pull up
and read what I wrote.
It's a wonderful SUV.
I know we've
enjoyed the last three we've had.
Yeah, well
we kind of stuck with them.
Well, yeah, you don't have to be but I'll tell
you what, every generation
of the navigator gets
better and nicer.
Of course, more expensive.
So you got to deal with
that. But if
you if you drive
in to Houston
Bayway Lincoln is my dealer there.
The owner, the Wisniewski
family, real good friends
of mine. Guy there named
Gilbert Thomas. He's on my website.
He'll take really good care
of you, I promise you. And
there are good incentives that just
started
with the Lincoln Wish List
sales event. It's their biggest
one of the year.
And I promise you
it is absolutely
the best time to buy.
And yours, it's
still worth it. Damn good money.
You'll be surprised what it'll bring
because the SUV market is so high
right now. Listen, Richard,
I appreciate the call. Thank you so much.
And that opens up
a line on thechase.com

Well, you're familiar
with Tesla's
and the self-driving component
that they like to talk about, which
I'm not sure 100%
I really trust that
with you these days. All the
mishaps and things that happen.
Now Tesla's latest
setting that they're I guess going to be
marketing is called Mad Max Mode.
It's still self-driving
but apparently it
lets the Tesla's drive
more aggressively. So they
accelerate hard, they pass a lot
and all kinds of craziness
that would, I mean, it would seem
like more of a road rage thing
to me if you saw that out there.
Especially a self-driving car, wouldn't
you think? Yeah.
And is this something
we need? I mean,
No, definitely not.
If you look at the number of people
through the years that have been killed
with Tesla's
autopilot
quote unquote. Right, right.
Making little quotey fingers here.
Air quotes going. Yeah, definitely.
Do we need
a car that'll do that?
Already a car that's lightening fast
and I like Tesla's.
Oh, they're really cool. I've ridden in one
and the whole self-driving thing
in a controlled environment is
really neat. But you want to
encourage aggressive driving
like that? I don't.
I certainly think it's a bad idea.
Maybe it's my dad coming out here, but
I don't know if I could be okay with
that. No, I don't. In fact,
I addressed that in the closing
message of the newsletter that came out
yesterday with
General Motors saying by 2028
they're going to have
a completely
hands-free, eyes-free
driving system.
Okay. And in
my closing message,
I question
is this something anybody really wants?
Do you want to trust
your car
when
things are going to go bad and what happens
10 years from now? Yeah.
When the system breaks? Yeah.
Who's going to fix it? What's it going
to cost? Oh, you can imagine.
Oh. It's going to be nuts.
Unbelievable. Yeah.
So personally, I'm not a fan.
I drive a lot of cars that will drive
themselves now and I don't use it.
I just like.
Yeah, we talked about that. When you had your
road trip to accept the
Texas Radio Hall of Fame induction
award and
designation, you didn't use any sort of
adaptive cruise, none of that.
I had that QX80.
It was a roadhog. It was
wonderful.
It's a cool looking vehicle. Never turned it on.
That's crazy. Let's talk to Jerry
in Houston. Jerry,
what you thinking about, Belle?
Good day. How are you today?
Good, man.
I want to thank
you first. Five years ago, my daughter
graduated from high school. She lives in
Michigan and I was looking for a vehicle.
I was looking between used and new and you
convinced me to look at the Subaru and it's
the best decision I ever made. Good. Glad to
hear. It's phenomenal.
And believe it or not, five years later,
she was offered $2,000 less
than what I'd paid for it.
I don't
doubt it. They hold their value
like crazy.
My son
ended up buying a Subaru a couple
years ago also because
of you. Anyways,
I had a truck down
in Corpus last weekend, Saturday night
when a massive hail storm came through
and unfortunately totaled off
the vehicle. There's not
a piece of metal on it that's not damaged
and there's four windows busted out.
So I'm
quite sure they're going to total it.
But I am now looking
it was
a tradesman dodge.
I'm looking between
classic Chevy Silverado
custom
and a tradesman
Ram. Basically,
they're both stripped models.
They're work trucks.
And I want your opinion which one you like better.
The question I guess the real thing is
is that the Chevy
is that four cylinder
turbo
and the tradesman is a
366 liter
or six cylinder
and it actually gets better fuel
economy than that four cylinder.
It does and I got to tell you something.
That six cylinder
pentastar engine
that Ram's putting out
has been
an absolute workhorse.
I mean, for
a work application, if I were you,
I'd go with the Ram
and I like a lot of Chevy
trucks and that
engine that you're talking about that four cylinder
which I had serious doubts about
I was worried
about it. It's been good
so far.
But it's still an infant
in the
you know, when you start talking
about truck engines
and people who use their
trucks and who rely on their trucks
and when their trucks
are sitting in a shop
you're not making money
and for those reasons
I think that pentastar engine
from Ram absolutely
the way to go my friend.
Now real quick before we run out of time
at my website
on the FAQ page
under insurance
there's a article I wrote
on how to deal
with insurance adjuster
you need to read that
before you get into negotiations
they're going to jack you around
I promise.
All right, let's go
back to the phones and we go
to Dave in Los Angeles
Dave, what's going on?
Not too much
Jerry
I plan to go to
Rotolo Chevrolet
I want to purchase a
2026
Silverado 1500
Who do I speak to
in terms of getting
all the incentives
because I've been speaking
to a salesman
but I don't trust
you know, I don't trust him
I rather speak to the
owner's son
or the owner.
Well, you can talk to the owner
for sure
his name is Mike Capozio
just
He's hard to get a hold of
Well, yeah, most
most car dealership owners are
they stay pretty busy
but
if you leave him a message
I guarantee he'll call you back
he always does
talk to him
Yeah, and I don't
his son is active in the business
I don't know him all that well
and I'm just being honest
laying the cards on the table
Mike was the first
dealer
that came on this show
in Los Angeles
that was
12 or 13 years ago
and he's been with me
ever since
his son knowing Mike
he's a great guy
I just don't know him very well
and try to get a hold of him
and I promise you
if he's anything like Mike
he'll shoot you straight
on the truck
on the incentives
anything that you need
and just tell him right up front
that you talk to me on the radio
and I promise you
he'll take good care of you
also one more question
what about the extent of warranty
would it be best to go through
the dealer
or find someone else
there's two places
talk to the dealer
and see what they can do for you
and then go to chase.com
and let them
look chase.com
great people
what they do is
they look for the best deal
for what you want
because there's so many different warranties out there Dave
so let them do the work
and figure out which one's best
but check both
if you just can't decide
whether to lease or buy
let the car pro Jerry Reynolds help you
call the car pro show now
at 1-800-926-7777
and if I need to tell someone
call Eric
he's my best friend
listen to him, it's like a book
that I didn't know I needed

happy parties you want
AT&T
connect everything
back to the car pro show with Jerry Reynolds
the car pro, I'm Todd Chambers
the newsletter was released
every Friday but
the latest one released on Friday
and one of the most clicked items on there
was the article from Kim Commando
who we both are big fans of actually
oh yeah
read her every single day
one of the best newsletters you can ever get
besides the car pro newsletter of course
thank you
I think it's part of my job to do that
actually but I really mean that
because I read it every Friday
and she had an article
about here's the headline
why your car insurance hates you
it's jumped up
like crazy and the rates keep rising
a lot of reasons
and you highlight this in your article here
it's because the tech
of course you add cameras, sensors
software
what was it, one of the bumpers
of a car, the camera I believe
went from 18 parts
to 43 because of driver assist features
on there
so more parts, more money obviously
that's exactly right
we talked about this on the earlier show
the cost of a windshield
today because of
technology
the heads up stuff and the sensors and everything else
if you don't get that done properly
that could be trouble for you
it may not all operate and of course
the price has gone crazy on those too
oh no question
no question but yeah
there's no doubt cars are safer today
than they've ever been before
and they're getting better all the time
but the cost
to repair
and our last caller
he was talking about his truck
getting towed out by hail
and I ran out of time
but I was telling him to go to the website
on the FAQ page under insurance
and read how to deal with an insurance adjuster
I got involved in one
yesterday from a friend of mine
she had
a
Honda CR-V I helped her get
she was in no fault accident
two weeks ago
I'm going to leave
the insurance company
unnamed at this point
but
they sent her an offer
for her car, for her Honda
I looked at it
and I said
that's low
so
I had her send me
their list
of comparable vehicles
that they found
her car had 89,000 miles
on it
two of the vehicles that they sent
that they were basing their offer on
had over
100,000 miles
that's not even the same league
apples and oranges
there's such a depreciation
at 100,000 miles
and two of them
that I looked at
this is out of four
four cars they found
two of them were over 100,000 miles
the other two both had previous accidents
for goodness sakes
and she wasn't getting anywhere with them
that's crazy
and I drafted
a letter to them
for her
I can imagine that letter
it wasn't pretty
it was not
especially faced with all the stuff that you just mentioned there
I'm sure they're like
okay we're going to have to play more ball with these people
rather than do our usual antics
exactly right
so if you'll read that article
I'll give you an irrefutable
way
to get around that
these insurance companies
they want
desperately to get out of a claim
as cheaply as they can
I don't blame them for that
but I do blame them for
anything that's misleading
like in this case
if you're going to do comps
do real comps
and don't tell me
that there wasn't vehicles
very similar to hers out there
because I found them
and probably didn't take that long either
they didn't know
they didn't want
to find comparables
to her car
they were looking for vehicles
that were really not comparable
to be more in line with what
they were willing to offer
apparently which is not fair to her
they'll certainly take your premiums
I'll tell you that
I've got a line
open on thechase.com
carprohotline
it's 80926
7777
and next up in line
is Frank in Houston
Frank how can I help you sir
yes hi Jerry
how are you today I'm good pal
what's happening good good love
your show thank you
absolutely look
quick question so
I've been driving an Infiniti QX80
it's a
2014 great great car
but every time I had
any type of warranty
it was real easy
in and out the same day or next day
I recently bought a
new car 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee
for my son for school for college
the L
and I bought it because it has the pentastar engine
and it's got a warranty right
and all the stuff you want for three years
well at about 5,000 miles
the CV joint went on the left hand axle
well I say went
it started making noises and
and I brought it to the dealer
and
you know between when I read online and I'm saying
it was a Tuesday well we'll let you know on Friday
if we get to it
I decided to bring it
I decided to bring it to my
my shop
you know my owner I'm a mechanic and
I paid to have him fix it
so I started speaking with people
I spoke with another buddy he has his own landscaping business
he has a RAM he said same thing
they had it for like five weeks but it was costing him money
so he
he just took it back
and paid for it
then I asked another friend now I know a lot of this is
anecdotal that's why I'm calling you
and I said how do you like that
Ford Edge he's had it a couple years he says good
he said except the censor went on at once
and they had it close to seven weeks
and
he said it ended up it was just
you know a light the censor light
but he'd keep going back
and they showed him a whole parking lot full of cars
and said
these are all warranty cars
now my mechanic said the
economics behind it is because
the
the
manufacturers pay a much lower
wage
for repair work
than for what they charge for
I'm sorry for warranty work
than what they charge for repair work
so I'm calling
so now I'm kind of afraid to buy a new car
your warranty is only
your warranty is only as good as the accessibility
right I came out of pocket
on a car with 5000 miles on it
and so two questions is this
so this is where I'm going with this
I'm looking at a new 2026
our mod up because it's cheaper than
a new QX80
but now I'm saying to myself
do I pony up the extra
money so I have the service
so two questions is this
truly
a problem
that's out there and two
and before it sounds like a spurious
argument you know congress was able to pass
a law
standardizing cell phone chargers right
can they pass some kind of law
saying that look
manufacturers you have to
you have to
respect warranty work
done outside of the dealerships
because of the lack of access
so kind of a two-pronged question
but that's my question
because that's what I'm worried about
about buying my next new car
and that's a valid concern
I'll tell you what
you asked me
a complicated question
we're going to need to go into the next break
are you willing to hold
absolutely
we're going to take a quick break
when we come back I will answer it
as quickly as I
humanly possibly can
but I will give you the answer
you can buy a car
and then find out that you really don't like it
or you can call the car pro show
and get the right car for how you drive
call now
1-800-926-7777
music
and you're listening to the car pro show
with the car pro Jerry Wettel
who was talking to Frank in Houston
before we went to break
and he wanted to have some good quality time
to answer a two-part question I believe
yes that's correct so Frank
here's the deal
I disagree with what your mechanics said
because
dealers get
paid a ton
of money for doing warranty work
now great good to know
yes well
I mean and it varies
but the factories have a system
in place
where you can
petition them essentially
for an increase
in your warranty rate based
on other dealers around you
so
if dealer A
is at $130
an hour
per hour labor
rate and that is
shop hour not actual time
so
then if the other dealers are at
$140 an hour
they can go to their manufacturer
and it's a law
that they have to
raise their labor rate
to compensate them
for doing the work now
so
dealers make a ton of money
on warranty work
but your problem comes down
to this
as with every
profession
there's good and there's bad
in what they do
I
have a huge issue
when a dealer
says
you need to make an appointment
okay so
when can I bring my car in
and the dealer tells you
and then they know
they can't look at it for a week
because they're backed up
now the parts issue
is a whole separate issue
but it has been a horrific problem
and it started
during COVID
it's better
but it's not
fixed
the parts pipeline is still not fixed
yet
and I don't know why
so what the good dealers do
is
they'll say Frank
our next opening
is four days from now
if you can be here
on that day at a certain time
we'll have a loaner car
ready for you
drop yours off
and we'll get it back to you as quick as we can
and
where my biggest issue
with dealers
is
leave your car
even knowing that we can't look at it for four days
it's going to sit here
on the lot untouched
for four days
that makes me crazy
that is
there's nothing that they can say
to me that will justify that
the good dealers don't do that
so
as far as laws and things
I don't know that
we want that
I think
that one of the things that people have to do
and one of the reasons I'm here
instead of
on the beach
is to help people
understand the difference between
the great dealers and what they do
and the bad dealers and what they don't do
and
you ask
a wonderful question
and I thank you for that
this is another example
and this is a big one
and the good dealers are getting more
and more
proactive
the good dealers are going
to the customer now
I've got dealers here in Dallas Fort Worth
that have got
duly pickups and huge
trailers and when you call them
and you want them to come do
jobs at your house or your office
they'll do that
I've got dealers who will
bring you a loan car and pick
yours up and bring it in
and fix it and take
it back to you
there's dealers in Houston that do this too
so
the main thing is
be
mindful of
the good dealers and these are good questions
to ask in the purchase process
and by and large if you
use the list at my dealers

and they wanted to know where to work
and you recommended and they've been
there since then right every one
of them that's crazy well Jerry
Patterson took care of Mary
for sure she was looking for a Toyota
Highlander all wheel drive
and she says everyone involved in this
purchase was on the ball
and top of the world with details
and knowledge of every last detail
isn't that a nice recommendation
boy that's a glowing one
they should put that on the wall
and the Tusta Mazda
of John Patterson dealership
yes it is right there in the
Los Angeles area
Christian looking for a Mazda CX-5

all the questions before and after
