Jerry has multiple car credentials, including being the first two-term chairman of the Ford
National Dealer Council. His co-host is Todd Chambliss, who's worked behind the
scenes on this show for several years. This year, Jerry gave him a microphone for his birthday.
So, let's get started on the CarPro show!
Thank you very much for joining us! Yes, this is the CarPro show,
and I want to talk to you about your car buying situation. So, all you got to do is dial this
number 800-926-7777-800-926-7777. Tell me what you're thinking about doing. I will tell you if
I think that's the best thing for you. I'll try to recommend a great dealership for you to go to,
to get the CarPro VIP experience and pricing, and you can have a great time. We have people every
single day that go out to one of our dealers, follow my process, and have a wonderful buying
experience, and get a good deal. It can happen. If you've had a bad car buying experience,
you need to try it my way, because it has worked for now well over two decades of people going to
CarPro show dealers and getting a great deal and having fun buying a car. So, 800-926-7777,
you'll find all those dealers at CarPro.com, click on near the top, not at the top, but near
the top, find a CarPro certified dealership near me and put your zip code in. The closest one will
pull up. I may not have a brand close directly to you, because the odds as big as these areas are,
the odds of you having a great dealer close to you is about 1%. So, you may have to drive a
little bit, and if so, I promise you it's going to be worth it. But if you want to talk to me,
if you want to pick my brain, if you want me to tell you what I think after doing this for a
long time and owning a string of dealerships, 800-926-7777. Todd Chambliss is with me as always.
Certainly am glad to be here, and on the Dallas show earlier, we were just inundated
with calls. There are a lot of folks out there right now actively looking and asking your advice,
and with the EV, I guess, the rebate, or the government assistance going away in just a few
weeks, I think folks are getting serious about those EV deals out there.
Yeah, EV sales set a record in August. More EVs sold in August than at any other time
since EVs hit the market. So, yeah, they're trying to get in on the deadline, and if
if you're not aware, we've got a great weekly newsletter that comes out every Friday, and
yesterday when it came out, I had a story in there about the fact that if you go to buy an EV
before September 30th, but the dealer doesn't have the car yet,
let's say they've got it on order and it's coming in, or you order the car that you want
exactly the way you want it, then you'll still get to $7,500 when the car comes in.
That's a heck of a deal. It is. I was really surprised the government was flexible.
Even if it's delivered after the end of September?
Yes. As long as they report, the dealer reports it to the government that you are buying one,
you'll get to $7,500. So, good news there. That's a nice thing. If you're not a subscriber,
go to the bottom of the page and put your email address in there. You'll get a confirmation email,
and then once you confirm that, you'll get yesterday's in your inbox. You can see that story,
plus I had the 2025 August U.S. auto sales. I had my video of the week was the most clicked
on thing. Todd made the top five again. I just barely made it in, but I'm grateful,
even though it was a bit controversial. The person who didn't care for the video was more
vertical than horizontal, and it looks like something off a phone, and he was not happy
about that. No, he wants vertical. No, he wants horizontal. It's sort of his way to welcome
me to the show. Your first sort of critical email. I knew there would be some, and that's
fine, but nonetheless, I'll do my best to make sure that they are horizontal from now on.
You know what they say, if you're not doing anything, then you don't get any complaints.
Then you're not doing enough. You're not doing enough. Yeah, exactly.
Let's talk to Ken in Tyler, Texas, out east of DFW. Ken, what can I help you with?
Well, I got a legal question. Maybe you can give me a hand with.
I'll try. I recently purchased a 2015 F-150 with 11,000 miles on it, basically.
Wow. Yeah, really clean looking, clean looking.
So I get this thing, and I'm running down the road, and I hear racket going on underneath the
truck, and I really don't pay attention to the noise. Then I get a check engine light,
so I take it to my favorite mechanical Tarver's garage over there in Kildore,
and Mr. Tarver calls me and says, hey, you need to come down here and look at this.
So I get over there, and pretty much what they've done was they undercoated the frame
at the undercarriage of this pickup, and didn't do a very good job because it's peeling off
and all the rust and the welds and everything that they put on this frame is showing through.
Do I? Where do I stand with this?
Well, sadly, nowhere. Did you buy it from a dealer or did you buy it from an individual?
Okay. I guarantee you, and I'm not an attorney and I don't play one on the radio,
but I guarantee you that you signed at least three documents that say you understand that
you're buying the truck as is. All used cars are sold as is in Texas and every other state that I
know of, and that's the risk of buying a used car, and it's sad and I hate it. The only way
you would have any recourse at all is if they made a declaratory statement, such as this truck
has no rust or any issues underneath. If they make broad statements like this is a nice truck,
it's only got 11,000 miles, you got nothing. Got you. And I know that's not what you want to
hear, but that's reality. And when it's something like that, Ken, don't beat yourself up. Nobody takes
a truck that you're thinking about buying and puts it up on a lift and looks at it.
Did the mechanic tell you what it would take to fix it?
A new frame?
I wonder where this truck was. I wonder where it came from.
It came from the coast.
Yeah. And I'm pretty sure it came from Florida.
Probably, probably. Buddy, I wish I had better news for you. I really do.
But that's the sad reality. You got to always do your checking. I appreciate the call.
Welcome back to the car pro show with Jerry Reynolds, the car pro. I'm Todd Chambliss and just a few minutes
about 20 minutes or so away. Yeah, a little less. A little less than 20 minutes or so.
But 1135 central, of course that's 1235 Eastern. We will for the 23rd time in a role play
the tribute for the heroes and victims of 9 11 back in 2001 that Jerry and Kevin McCarthy
narrate. It's it's one of those things where you want to go tell a friend to make sure they
turn the radio on because it is it's touching. It may even make you tear up to remember exactly
what happened, the events leading up and that faithful day that we will never forget.
We certainly don't want to forget. Nope. Next Thursday, 24 years. It's hard to believe.
We played this tribute 23 years ago, the very first week after 9 11. No, I'm sorry. That's
not true. We played it on the anniversary of 9 11, 23 years ago. It's the one year
anniversary. And I promised at that time that I would play it again every single year.
And we have because I just don't think we can forget this happened. And it's it's very touching.
Kevin McCarthy, my old trusty sidekick that was with me here for a lot of years
did a magnificent job. Oh, it's masterful. It's very, very well done. It is. And he just
killed it with this. We walk you back through the events of that day. It's about a seven minute video.
I'm audio clip. I had it in yesterday's free newsletter. So after you hear it coming up here in
15 minutes after you hear it and you want if you want to descend it to somebody
or if you want to hear it again, maybe you listen to it next Thursday. It was in yesterday's free
newsletter along with a poem that a listener wrote to me about the events of that horrible day.
You know, it's just we can't we just can't forget. As you mentioned before, I think on the Dallas
show that we've we've kind of gotten we've gotten so far away from not only that event,
but the patriotism and the the feeling that we felt afterwards how united we were that it's just
kind of sad that we are where we are now. Yeah, it is. It does make me sad. And then we end up
that recording with a musical video of me teaching my three year old nephew, the Pledge of
Allegiance, set to music by Mr. Lee Greenwood. And it's pretty spectacular too. Yeah, it is.
Let's talk to Anna in Fort Worth, Texas. Anna, welcome. How can I help you?
Hi, thank you so much for taking my pleasure. So I am closing on my home and I am building
a cabin on the outskirts of Fort Worth. So I'll be commuting in about an hour each day.
Probably. And I need a new car and my budget would be 24 possibly 25 out the door. I'm just
going to pay for it in cash. And what I'm what I really like is or what I don't want is I don't
want another car. I think I like the crossovers. And I was wondering if I could get your opinion
on a Subaru Crosstrek. Or if you thought another car might be better fuel economy wise.
And I will. I'll tell you, Crosstrek is one of my most recommended SUVs. And there's a couple.
Yeah, it is. Longevity. I had an article in my newsletter, not yesterday, but a week ago,
about long term customer satisfaction and durability of vehicles. And
there was the Subaru Crosstrek was right at the top. And that's been my experience as well.
And I've helped thousands of people get Crosstrek. I started talking about it when when they first
came out and I reviewed one. But safety is the other big issue that I really like the
Crosstrek for. You couldn't you can't be in a safer SUV that size. Is the gas mileage the
best in the industry? No, you could get a RAV4 hybrid, which will give you better fuel economy,
but not a lot better. And the problem problem and I love the RAV4, but the problem with them
is they hold their value so well, they're very expensive used. So you can get a nicer Crosstrek
with lower miles than you can a comparable RAV4. So I think you're on the right track in that budget.
Okay. Okay. With that amount, I did look at one and they for I went to, I live in Fort Worth,
so I went to highly, highly Subaru. I can find some online. I don't know anything about Cargo
Ruse or any of those companies, but the first thing they showed me, they brought out and
okay. That was more before price range before we run out of time here. I want you to talk to Tony
Human. He's the general manager at five stars Subaru in grapevine. Tell him I sent you and
he will steer you right. I promise you five star grapevine. Some electric cars may not work for
you. Find out which ones would by calling the car pro at 1-800-926-7777.
Next up is Johnny in West Covina, California. Johnny, welcome.
Hey, thank you, Jerry. How are you today? I'm good, buddy. What could I help you with?
Well, my wife and I are looking at buying our first non-gasoline power engine vehicle. We're
looking at the Toyota Camry. We have a 2017 Camry and I know the Camry is only made with a hybrid
now. So my question was, I mean, based on online research, you think that the Camry hybrid has
been pretty reliable. What is your experience? Yeah, they're extremely reliable. Typically,
250,000 miles or more, including the hybrid battery. I've seen Camry hybrids go well over
300,000 miles. So no issue there. And if you're a first-time hybrid, if you're a first-time hybrid
buyer, you need to know. You would never know you're driving a hybrid. The only thing you'll
notice is you don't have to stop for gas nearly as often. Otherwise, unless you're looking
at the dash, which tells you whether you're running on gas or hybrid, you're not going to feel it.
It's seamless. So we looked recently at the, in Longwood,
Toyota here, where I live in Los Angeles. And the 25s, they have a few of those left,
the 26s are coming in. Would there be an advantage? We buy cars and we drive them
to the wheel fall off. So we're not going to trade it in. Then get a 20.
Would there be an advantage over a 25 or 26? No, absolutely not. You'll save money on the 2025
down the road, whether it's a 2025 or 2026 won't make any difference. I've got a great dealer
about 10 miles from you in Pasadena that I promise you will make it work the drive.
Sandra Brunig, Sandra Brunig is the General Sales Manager at Toyota Pasadena.
I get the nicest emails back on her of probably anybody on this show. Everybody loves Sandra.
She will cut you a deal and you will have a great time. Sandra Brunig, Toyota Pasadena,
get you a 25 that she's got one. And I think you'll be real, real pleased. I appreciate the
call, Johnny. Coming up, our tribute to 9-11. You don't want to miss it, believe me. And
then when that's over, we'll go back to the phones if you want to call now and get in line
809-26-7777. Thanks for listening to The Car Pro Show. The residual value of your car is your
bargain chip. Learn how to find it by calling The Car Pro Show at 1-800-926-7777.
This winter, know what your vehicle needs before it needs it. Visit your Buick Certified
Service Center and ask for a multi-point vehicle inspection and take advantage of stackable rebates.
See dealer for complete details. Multi-point vehicle inspections vary by participating dealer.
Welcome to a special edition of The Car Pro Radio Show as we recount moments from the morning
of September 11, 2001. Here's Kevin McCarthy.
It was a beautiful morning in New York City on the 11th day of September 2001.
Just before 8 o'clock Central Time, American Airlines Flight 11 departed Boston on route to
Los Angeles. We would later learn that five hijackers were aboard the Boeing 767. At 814,
United Airlines Flight 175 also departed Boston bound for LA, and this flight also had five
hijackers on board. Five minutes later at 819, a flight attendant on Flight 11 made a phone call
saying the cockpit wasn't answering and that she thought the flight had been hijacked.
At 820 AM, American Flight 77 departed from Washington Dulles Airport with 58 passengers,
five of which were hijackers. It was also bound for Los Angeles. All three planes were carrying
full tanks of fuel for the long cross-country journey. At 824, the first flight, American 11
turned off its transponders, made a 100-degree turn toward New York City, and Muhammad
Atta declared to flight control, we have some planes, just be quiet and you'll be okay.
Atta thought he was speaking to the passengers, but mistakenly was speaking with air traffic control.
As officials pondered the best course of action, it was at 834 Central Time that two F-15s
prepared for flight. They were airborne within minutes, but because the transponders were
off, they could not be sure where the hijack plane was located. And then the unthinkable
happened. It was 846 and 40 seconds when Flight 11 crashed into the North World Trade Center tower
at 490 miles an hour between floors 93 and 99, sparking a massive explosion and devastation.
In less than three minutes, CNN reported a World Trade Center disaster,
although it was unclear what exactly had happened. Hundreds were trapped above the
crash floors by a massive fire. A firefighter is killed on the ground by a frantic victim
who jumped from one of the top floors to the ground from the North Tower.
At 850, American Flight 77 was hijacked. Both pilots were killed, a flight attendant was stabbed.
At 855, President George Bush was notified at a school in Florida, but it was thought the
crash was caused by a small aircraft. At 858, Flight 175 changed its heading toward New York City.
Air Traffic Control reported it couldn't locate this flight and asked for help to find it.
Within four minutes, Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower at almost 600 miles an hour on
about the 80th floor. Since the first crash had already taken over the airwaves,
America witnessed the second crash on live TV. In the minutes to follow, the military scrambled
all resources to get fighter planes into the air. All New York City airports are closed.
And at 925 A.M. Central, the Associated Press reported for the first time that what had
happened appeared to be an act of terrorism. It was then that the sobering truth hit all
Americans. Our age of innocence had passed. We had been attacked on our own soil.
At 928, United Flight 93 was taken over by the hijackers. This event was heard by flight
controllers at the Cleveland Air Traffic Control Center. It was at this moment that
President Bush declared, we've had a national tragedy. At 935, Flight 77 turned toward
Washington D.C. and two minutes later crashed into the Pentagon, killing 125 people in the building.
The White House and the Capitol are evacuated. And for the first time in U.S. history,
all flights all across the country were grounded. By this time, the people on the
fourth and final hijack plane, United Flight 93, knew about the events of the day.
Shortly after one man shouted, let's roll, some of the men began storming the cockpit to try to
avert another tragedy. Moments later, the final hijack plane, believed to be targeting the
White House, crashed instead into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. A stunned
America watched and waited for what was going to happen next. And while we watched both
world trade centers fall, a nation wept and was changed forever.
In honor of the 2,605 people who innocently died, the 343 firefighters and 60 police officers who
died in the world trade centers, the 212 lives lost on Americans Flight 11 and 77
and United Flight 175. And for the over 4,500 young men and women who have made the ultimate
sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan, please reflect for a few moments as we listen to the Pledge
of Allegiance with my nephew, Connor Ellis, myself and Mr. Lee Greenwood. This is Jerry Reynolds
and with me today is my nephew, Connor Ellis, who's three years old. Say hi to everybody,
Connor. Hi, everybody. Good job, buddy. You ready to learn the Pledge of Allegiance? Yes.
Okay, let's get started. Say everything I say. Okay? Okay. I pledge allegiance. I pledge allegiance
to the flag of the United States of America. Good job, buddy.
And to the republic of which it stands. And here's the most important part.
One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. The liberty of justice all.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag is a pledge to the ideals of our forefathers.
To the flag. The men who fought and died in the building of this great nation.
The United States of America. It's a pledge to fulfill our duties and obligations as
citizens of the United States. And to uphold the principles of our Constitution.
Which it stands. And last but not least, it's a pledge to maintain the four great freedoms
cherished by all Americans. One nation. Freedom of speech. Under God. Freedom of
religion. Indivisible. Freedom from want. With liberty. And freedom from fear. And justice
for all. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
And to the republic of which it stands. One nation under God. Indivisible
all. With liberty and justice for all.
That's exactly right. Thank you Connor. Okay. Well, I hope you enjoyed that.
It gets to me every single year. And I hope we never forget what happened. It's not pleasant.
You know, you think back on those that day and where you were. And you know, if you're old enough,
you know exactly where you were when you first heard the news. And that's something we should
never forget. Complacency put us in that position. And I don't want us to get that way
ever again. Yeah. So there you go. All right. We had a caller or two drop out.
So if you would like to pick my brain, I do have lines open now at 800-926-7777-800-926-7777.
If you would like to share the tribute to the victims and heroes 9-11,
yesterday's newsletter had the link in there. One call to the CarPro show can make your car
shopping easy. Here's the number 1-800-926-7777.
This week's classic car of the week and the CarPro's Facebook page.
It is a beautiful vehicle. If you love to go and pride yourself on being able to guess the correct
gear and make a model of a vehicle, this is for you. Go to carprobe.com at the bottom.
There's a link to our Facebook page. You will find that posting from just a couple of hours ago.
Now, all the correct guesses go into a hopper, a digital hopper, and then one winner is chosen
for an auto heat shield that's a cut exactly to your windshield that's going to fit perfectly
in your car. I highly recommend them. They certainly will make the inside of your car
so much cooler during the hot weather. Go check out the actual classic car of the week and make
your guess on our Facebook page. You can start at carprobe.com. Get the link right there.
Somebody's going to win, I promise you. While you're down there at the bottom of the page,
if you're not a subscriber to the newsletter, do that from there as well. You'll get
yesterday's in your inbox immediately. You can find out what the August auto sales were.
The story about EV buyers getting a reprieve from the September 30th deadline, my review of the
2025 Ford Bronco Strobe. Oh, man. And Amy's review of the Lexus LX600.
If we're highly clicked on the newsletter this way.
I was very highly clicked, yeah. And then I had my vice column on shopping for car insurance.
Oh, nice. Give you some tips there on saving some money. So there we have it. Oh, yeah. And
yesterday's also a link to what you heard at 35 minutes after the hour today, our tribute to 9-11
in its entirety. Nice. So, Mary and San Diego, you're next on The Car Probe Show. Hello, Mary.
Hi. How can I help you? I would like to know where in San Diego should I buy an older,
good certified youth Toyota Camry? Well, kiddo, unfortunately, I've been on the air in San Diego
for a long time, but I've not found dealers there that wanted to be part of the show and
do the things that I require. So I cannot help you locally. Now, how about how old are you
trying to go back and get a Camry hybrid? Five to eight years. No, not a hybrid. I don't
want a hybrid. Oh, I'm sorry. Five to eight years old. Okay. There's a limit on how far back you can
go and still get a certified Camry. And I think it's seven years. Oh, seven, okay. And if that's
the case, you'd need a 2018 or newer. But I would highly recommend the car to you. There's a
great reason it's been the number one selling sedan in America for 16 years in a row because
people buy them again and again because they're just so good. It's a great car. It's a great choice.
I can help you in LA, but if you're in San Diego, that's a hike. So I would suggest
that you go to autotrader.com. That's who I use when I'm searching for a car.
And you can search specifically. Try to find a 2018, 19, maybe a 2020 that's got,
if it's not certified, something that's got 60,000 miles or less and something that's got
a very clean history report. And if you do those things, you're going to get a good car,
I promise you. Okay. Now, when you search at autotrader,
you can, you can specify certified. So click that box and it'll pull the certified ones up
front. Now, the good news on unused Camry's is because there's so many of them sold brand new,
there's always a lot of them on the market. And that tends to keep prices down,
even though it's, it's a popular car. There's just so many of them. And that, that brings prices down.
So all in all, you're making a great choice. And I highly recommend the Camry to everybody. I mean,
it's just, it's just such a good car and, and it's safe and reliability as well, well past
250,000 miles. So I hope, I hope you're able to find one. I wish I could help you with
the dealer, but I do thank you for calling us here on The Car Pro Show.
There are hidden costs to some cars, but The Car Pro can clue you in. Call 1-800-926-7777.
And as happy listener time, great stories from those who have taken Jerry's advice
on getting their brand new car. Like Chuck, who was interested in a Lexus RX350H and decided to call
on Fred Forchet over at Sterling McCall, Lexus Clearlake says that the only blip of the process
was the low valuation of my trade in, but Fred stepped in able to increase the value by over
30%. Who else does that? Nobody would do that. If you're looking for a Lexus in Houston,
anywhere in that area, he's the man. Absolutely. He's so much fun. He said he was a prankster,
apparently. Oh, he's a nice guy. Yeah, he is. He is. He came to the dealership on his day off to
deliver the vehicle, make sure the technology was all good to go and synced. Says that he
gave Fred a five-star endorsement and no surprise there. Everybody does. Everybody loves Fred.
And Elizabeth was interested in a Hyundai Tucson and decided to talk to Adrienne,
Baytown Hyundai says that she didn't have a lot of time to go into a dealership. So email back
and forth with Adrienne, helped get the information she needed. She started on a Santa Cruz is what
she wanted, but apparently she decided to go with a Tucson as Adrienne helped to kind of make
that transition was professional through the process. Didn't have the white Tucson she
wanted, but they got it from another dealership. Everything worked out great, organized,
all-star, rather all around five-star car buying experience. Awesome. Yeah, we've been on the air
in Houston for 15, 16 years now and we have found the absolute best dealers. And all you got to do
is go to carpro.com and click on find a certified car pro dealership near me and you'll find one
of mine. Now we're ending now the hour, the first hour of the show. We've got two more
to go. So if you're on hold, stick around. I take calls in the order that they are received. So the
longer you wait, the quicker I'll get to you. Don't go anywhere. And you can call 800-926-7777 now.
Keep the car you have now or go for something different.
