This is the CarPro Show, where you always get straight talk and honest answers about everything automotive.
Your host is Jerry Reynolds, former multi-car dealership owner, and the man they call the CarPro.
His co-host is Todd Chambliss, the man they call Bigfoot.
I mean Big Voice.
So get ready to call in with your question on the CarPro Show.
Thank you for joining us.
This is the CarPro Show, and here's the phone number if you want to pick my brain about anything except mechanical questions.
800-926-7777, 800-926-7777.
Helping people buy cars and do it the right way and save some money,
and most of all, have some fun, get in and out of there in a hurry.
That's what I preach to our dealers that are at CarPro.com, our website.
It shouldn't take four hours to buy a car.
You ought to be able to get in and out of a car dealership in an hour and a half, two hours at the most
if you know what you want already when you get there,
and you pick out one quickly and they cut to the chase and give you the great CarPro Show pricing.
You ought to be able to get in and out of there quickly
and you will have a pleasant experience.
I've had a rash of people this week who went to the dealerships that I recommend,
but they didn't talk to the person that I recommend, the person at the website.
And that is a critical piece. That is probably the most important thing.
I can't control what dealerships do every day.
I only care about one thing, and that is how the people who listen to this show get treated
and the way things are handled.
So the only way to ensure that that happens is to talk to the contact.
Usually it's the general manager, not always,
but most of the time it is, sometimes it's the owner,
sometimes it's a fleet manager, sometimes it is a salesperson
that has been with them for a long time that they trust,
because my question to them is always the same.
Who would you send a relative to?
If your mom wanted to buy a car and you weren't in the business,
who would you tell them to talk to at your dealership?
That's a very telling question.
So here's the simple thing.
Go to carpro.com.
Near the top of the page, you'll see a green button,
and above it it says,
find a carpro certified dealer near me,
and put in the brand that you want,
and then put in your zip code,
and it'll pull up the closest one to you.
They may not be right around the corner.
The odds is you're having a good dealer right around the corner from you're slim and none.
But if you want to have a good experience
and you want to be able to get in and out quick,
no hassles, honest people, that's the way to do it.
But be sure and follow my process.
I'm really a stickler on that this week
because of two or three cases where people went,
they caught new salespeople that had no idea who I was,
that didn't know what the show's about,
that didn't know my requirements for being on this show.
That defeats the purpose,
and you get a jaded view of everything.
Go my way.
I promise you'll love it.
Todd Chambliss is here.
Yes, sir.
And there is a caller from the last show from our Dallas show
who went to one of your dealerships
and I can almost guarantee you they didn't go through your process,
your person, and there was something that happened
and they were asking, what do I do?
And you said, you know, call the general manager
who is a personal friend of yours
and they'll make sure this is fixed up.
But I can almost promise you without fail
that if you go through and you use the people that Jerry set up
and the processes talked about,
you're going to have a fantastic experience
and it's going to be quick
and it's going to be the most fair car deal
and the best experience you've ever had.
I'll give him and I told you so.
But if he had gone through the website,
he would have already known the general manager.
Exactly.
And he would have known to call her.
Immediately upon, he had a problem in service.
Yeah, exactly.
And it's a great dealership.
It's a great dealership.
You're from Texas.
You know the Sewell name.
Oh, my gosh.
This is a Sewell dealership.
That's where I got my new car this year.
You know, if he had followed my process
when he bought that car from them,
he'd have known Kelly.
Exactly.
And she's awesome.
Does all the champs meet?
They go meet everybody.
Absolutely.
Yeah, it's, yeah.
If they're, you know, if they're there
and if they're not there, they check in on you.
Exactly.
I've seen it a thousand times.
You know, they got to be out of town,
but they set it up and that's just as good.
Let me tell you, when you run a dealership
and you tell somebody that's referred to you
as the owner or you as the general manager,
you tell somebody to talk to Todd Chambliss.
He's my top salesperson.
Right.
He'll take good care of you.
I'm going to go to Todd and I'm going to say,
hey, I got these people coming in.
Here's what you do.
They're car brochure listeners.
They get this pricing.
Make sure that they're super happy before they leave.
Set it up.
Oh yeah.
That's all you got to do.
Every time I've ever used yours,
especially at Sampec 5-star Ford, for example,
I'm talking to everybody.
I mean, Trey Russell is coming to make sure the deal is right.
If it's not, he will go in and move heaven and earth
and make sure you're happy and you're taking care of quickly
and efficiently.
It's just a great experience.
Howard in Katie, Texas in the Houston area.
You're up first on the car brochure.
Hello, Howard.
What can I do for you?
Hey, good morning, sir.
How you doing?
I'm fine.
What's up, pal?
Good.
Hey, I listen to this show regularly, just listening,
because I'm always working.
But I had a question.
I'm in the market of getting a used vehicle.
Yeah.
And I looked at a Volkswagen Atlas 2021.
It's around 80,000 miles.
This one feels good by, or they're reliable,
or I don't know much about Volkswagen.
No, they've actually, I'd say the last five years,
they've gotten much better quality wise.
Long-term durability is still good.
They've taken care of a lot of the little petty things
that Volkswagen was known for for many years.
And it was never mechanical.
It was fit and finish and interior quality and noise
and that sort of thing.
They were really annoying.
But mechanically, Volkswagen's always been good
and the Atlas has been good.
If that thing's got a good history report with 80,000 miles,
you should have at least another 80,000 miles
without any major problems.
But make sure that history report is clear.
I use AutoCheck.
I know Carfax is the most prevalent in that industry,
but the fact is I have found AutoCheck to be
so much more reliable
and the information to me is better.
So that's the best 25 bucks you could spend.
I don't know where you're looking.
Doesn't matter, but Team Gilman Volkswagen,
they're in Kingswood, that's my dealer.
If they've got something, Taylor Justice there
will take really good care of you, I promise you.
But the answer to the question is,
yeah, they're fine, you should be okay.
Think of how much you'd pay for advice from an expert
before you buy a car.
Well, it's free at The CarPro Show,
1-800-926-7777.
Welcome back to The CarPro Show, Jerry Reynolds.
This is The CarPro and I'm Todd Chambliss.
This week's Classic Car of the Week
on our Facebook page, a plum-colored Classic Car,
which I don't know if I've ever seen one of these before,
but they are cool-looking and I think you reviewed one
that was sort of like a recreation or replica of it
maybe a few years ago.
Yeah, I did.
Yeah, and it's a beautiful car.
If you'd like to go and make your guess
of the correct year of making model,
you might be the winner of an auto-heat shield.
Of all the correct guesses, we'll draw one on Monday.
I've got one in the car.
It certainly has come in handy for me.
It is custom cut to your windshield and it is beautiful.
So make sure you go make your guess.
If you want to find the link to our Facebook page,
go to TheBottomOfCarPro.com
and go and make your guess.
Good luck.
The big story in yesterday's newsletter
that people clicked on the most was
my article about state farm insurance
underpaying for total vehicles.
I've been preaching on this for a lot of years
that when an insurance company makes you
an offer for a total vehicle
or maybe your car got stolen
and it never was recovered,
when they make you an offer, they're going to hit you low.
And I know this.
That is exactly why I wrote the article
on my FAQ page under the insurance section
about how to deal with an insurance adjuster.
I did not know until there was a lawsuit
that just got settled that State Farm lost the suit.
I did not know what their process was
for how they came about the figures
that they gave to you.
Now, a lot of people just accept
what the insurance company says.
Claims the adjuster will call
and say, hey, we've got it all worked up.
We're going to give you X amount of dollars.
And people just go, OK, you don't have to do that.
They have to pay replacement value.
And now I know from this lawsuit
what they're doing and how they're doing it.
The implications of this are going to be far-reaching.
I promise you.
They'll be changing the way some of these,
maybe all of them, may be doing business from now on
as far as this kind of thing is concerned.
No question about it.
No question about it.
They're going to have to prove their case.
The article that I wrote tells you how to prove your case.
And if you'll follow that through the years,
I have saved people literally hundreds of thousands of dollars
with that article.
You got to do a little bit of work.
I've seen people pick up five, six, seven thousand dollars
from the initial offer.
My gosh.
It's crazy.
Somebody's job at that insurance company is to get you to settle
as cheaply as they can.
Now, this has nothing to do with your agent.
No, no.
I love my agent.
They're great.
They're your friend, they're your advocate.
They're probably your neighbor.
But they don't handle claims.
They can help.
They can advocate for you.
They can't make the claim different from what the claims
department says.
So keep that in mind.
Let's talk to Pat in Fulton, California.
Hello, Pat.
Welcome.
Hey, Pat, are you there?
Yes.
Yes.
Hello.
Hello, Jerry.
Yeah, Pat.
What can I do for you?
Okay.
Jerry, I am about 82.
And I have been looking at the Subaru Crosstrek
off and on for years.
Just not going to dealers, but just looking.
And so I'm kind of getting serious about it.
Yeah.
But I'm having, I'm a little nervous about all the
technology.
And so I was wondering if I should go look at,
like a two,
2023 that doesn't,
doesn't have all that technology as much as the 2425.
Could you give me your thoughts on that, please?
Yeah, I can.
It's simple.
I don't think you need to go back to a 2023.
They're going to be,
I mean, the great thing about cars today is the
technology.
A lot of that technology you won't see and you won't
know it unless there's an emergency,
and especially with Subaru because of their
eyesight system that really helps you avoid an
accident.
The car does the work for you.
Yes.
Yes, I've heard that.
And it's a wonderful system.
Now the other things that are in the car,
it's your choice whether you want them or
you want to use them or not.
But I will tell you this as a guy that's in and
out of 100 new cars a year,
that just take your time with it.
Learn, learn everything your car does,
but you don't have to learn it all on the
first day.
Take your car, drive it a few weeks and then
go back to the dealership and I have some
great ones in California.
Hmm.
Six cylinder or four cylinder with a
turbo.
Let Jerry Reynolds the car pro help you
decide.
Call the car pro show.
1-800-926-7777.
And we're going to talk about Pat
for just a second that I was just talking
to him.
Pat was a sweet lady, 82 years old,
worried about technology in the car
and the clock got away from me.
What I was going to tell her is
take your time.
Don't try to learn it all at once.
Drive the car for a couple of weeks.
Make some notes after you drive
every time of questions that you
have and then go back
and to your dealer
and ask them to show you
the other things about the car.
You just want to learn the basics the first
day, the day you take delivery.
You're already overwhelmed from the
experience of buying a car.
So get the safety stuff down first
then go back
and work on
you know
hooking your phone up to the Bluetooth
and the other things
that really make cars fun these
days.
So Pat, I'm sorry we ran out of time.
Warren in Lubbock, Texas.
Warren, welcome.
How could I help you? Hi there.
Well, coincidentally, I am in a dispute
with State Farm over a total car.
Wow, what a surprise.
For over a year,
I've called you a couple times about this.
You get some good advice including
checking with the
State Department of Insurance
in Texas and
they confirm that they don't have
to use that third party CCC
and I told them that
you know, I told them they're all wet
on that claim. I told them they're all
wet on this
arbitrary subtraction
of $1,000
for conditions for the market.
They just came back and basically
they're not moving at all
and I'm working on a couple of other
options including buying
getting the car back and having it fixed
if I can get a good quote.
But Michael, what's making
today is,
I guess I need to read your article about this lawsuit
because I need to find out about this lawsuit.
But what the thing is now
is they say
and I've checked the policy, it does say this
that if we can't agree on a price
I'm supposed to hire an appraiser
they're supposed to hire an appraiser
two of them are supposed to agree on a third appraiser
if they can't agree
they get the third appraiser
they cash it out between themselves.
Well, and before we
I try to find an appraiser that is
friendly to me instead of friendly to the car company.
Well, and Google it, there'll be some
and love it and we're about to run out of time
but sometimes you've got to get an attorney.
You could be losing money
at the end of your lease and not even know it.

Welcome back to The Car Pro
Show with Jerry Reynolds
The Car Pro and me Todd Chambliss
Every single week the newsletter has reviews
Jerry typically now does about
two a week. Amy will do one herself
so there's normally at least two
sometimes three reviews
that you can go and check out. One of the reviews
probably the most clicked I would imagine
is the 2025 Ford
Expedition Platinum Max
which is huge
first of all that's where the max comes in
obviously yeah and extended
version the extended version and
of course it was loaded to the
Hilt and the another distinctive
thing about this vehicle is
the color green that it has
it's a very matte kind
of a non-sparkly
looking would you say that's fair
yeah I mean they call it wild
green yeah and
it is a little wild it's
I don't think it would be
my thing no not for me either
but you know hey
I got a lot of compliments on it
I mean it's a yeah it's
with those polarizing things there would be a lot of people
who would think it's just great
and others who aren't we had a green
Expedition way back in the day but it was
it was sort of I guess it was
traditional green that you would expect
yeah nothing like this there's some pretty greens
out there this was just different that's the only
way I know to describe it it's impressive
though I mean it's it's got a lot of things
rig absolutely I mean if
you're looking for something
suburban size but not a suburban
this is this is about your only other choice
800 926
77
77 that's the phone number here
I have rare lines
open I got two you
can grab one right now
800 926
77
77 I want you
to tell me what you're thinking about doing
and I'll tell you if I think that's a good idea
maybe there's something better
that you can do and I'll
recommend that then you can make the final
decision I
get a lot of people who are torn
between one car or
two cars or
you know that they just don't know where to
start because the choices are so good
right now
but I will tell you this if you're thinking
about getting something between now and the
end of the year
you might really want to
look now and the reason is
we're
seeing some pretty big price
increases on the 2026
that are coming out
and that's because of the tariffs
the manufacturers have tried
to hold the line
this entire calendar year
on the 2025
and they've done
a pretty doggone good job with it
so far I will tell you that
but
cars are going up
and
you may be thinking electric
and if you don't do something by the 30th
of this month
you're going to lose out because
that $7,500 is going away
you don't want that to happen
while it's there you want to get it
and not miss it
but the bigger thing is
you know people
who want to take advantage
of tax code 179
and I've got that
in my free newsletter from yesterday
everything you need to know about that
depreciated acceleration
it's another one
that people can take advantage of and now
at least for the next couple of years
you can write the interest off
on your taxes
if you pay interest on your car
this is new, it wasn't there
I've got all the rules I explained at all
at my
in my free weekly newsletter
along with a lot of other stuff
besides recalls and
that sort of thing
there's just a lot of good information there
but timing wise
while the used car market is good
while prices
on the 2025s are down
while the incentives are still
good on the 2025s
before the tariffs hit
get
if you can pull your
timeline forward to now
talk to one of my dealers
and get the car pro-show pricing
so when you get all that
wrapped into one thing
you get
the best price up front
you get a good trade value
you can take advantage of lower pricing
that we're going to see
in the months to come
all that together
makes for a good deal
let's talk to
to sell
I believe it is in Conroe, Texas
in the Houston area
to sell is that right
yes that's correct
welcome
I'm just wondering
I've only owned vehicles
I have a lot of pets
but as soon as the warranty
is finished everything just kind of goes
to crap
I'm wondering in terms of leasing
is there going to be a problem
because I have a lot of pets
I'm going to come to the vets weekly
and I know that
you have to return the vehicle
in perfect condition
so I'm just wondering is it a good idea
to lease if you have pets
on a content that may be damaged
and I do sometimes haul
a couple of bales of hay
from time to time
the bigger issue is mileage
how many miles a year do you put on a car
that I don't know
I'm a housewife so I just
go around doing errands and things like that
I don't know if it's a long
I doubt it
15,000 is the standard mileage
on a lease
you can go less than that
you can go down to 12,000
you can go down to 10,000
if you sign up
for fewer miles the payment goes down
and the reason is
the reason is simple
at the end of the lease
a car that's been driven 10,000 miles
more than a car that's been driven
15,000 miles a year
it's the difference between 30,000 miles
and 45,000 miles
now they will allow
for normal wear and tear
so
if it's
if you get any rips
in the interior
that's not going to be normal
wear and tear you're going to have to get those fixed
before you turn the car back
but
most people today
to sell never turn a car back
they either buy it
themselves at the end of the lease
because they like it
and because it's a good buy
or they trade it in
and if you trade it in
nothing comes into play
the mileage doesn't come into play
wear and tear doesn't come into play
there is no restrictions
whatsoever
so
I like to see people get
on a cycle of leasing
where they just know
every three years are going to get a brand new car
they never have
they never have a car out of warranty
they never have a car that needs tires
they never have a car that needs brakes
they're going to do
several oil changes
during the lease and that's all
that's all the money you're out
and all that time
you're enjoying a cheaper payment
with that said
leasing is not for everybody
if you're a high mileage driver
I don't recommend it
if you're really rough on a car
in the event that you end up having to walk away
from it at the end
I don't recommend it for that
but for most people
let me tell you the most telling thing
I lease my cars
everybody
in the car business
I know of leases their car
and that tells you a lot
right there so keep that in mind
now
when you go to negotiate a lease
it's different than a purchase
with a lease
you're only negotiating the monthly payment
because
there's no sale price on the lease
it's different than
with a purchase
and that's why it's so important
to go see one of my dealers
because you can easily
take advantage of with a lease
if you're not careful
you've got to have somebody you can trust
and I've got those dealers
at carpro.com
use them, you'll be glad you did
If you live in California
you're probably familiar
with the back and forth
on the Jay Leno
this is called Leno's law
and this
regards this involves
35 year old vehicles
long as they're covered by
collector insurance
and registered as historical vehicles
the law was supposed
to go and give them a break
from all the stringent smog rules
apparently that law is
died and it's not going to happen
so if you have a car
that old there you're still going to have to go
and deal with the environmental
protection and everything else
that is
exacted on these cars and I'm sure that
Jay Leno who has nearly
200 vehicles
and just as many motorcycles too
in his possession
it's a big expense and a lot of trouble
a lot of hassle I would imagine
that this would be a hard thing to get through
wonder what happened
what the deal was
I don't know
emissions on a 30 year old car
a classic
who cares
they're not driven very much
they're not polluting a lot of
they're not changing
the atmosphere
if it were a daily driver and you had
everybody driving them then that might be something
but it's rare that you see that much
I would have thought
this is something they could have agreed on
in California
maybe it'll come up next
legislature who knows
Rachel and Conroe
Houston area, Rachel welcome
what can I help you with
Hi Jerry thanks for taking my call
you bet
I'm looking to buy
an SUV that can pull
say a 1200
pound
a horse trailer
and say another 1200
pound, 1500 pound horse
okay
under 3,000
pounds total
yeah lots of them will do that
you just got to be careful
not to over tax
the engine
in something so
if I were you I'd go something midsize
I'd go with a six cylinder
you know there's some
really good choices out there
you know if
are you going new
yeah
you know
I
most of them
I don't have to do new
no it's okay that new
right now
if you can find a 2025
new right now is
with incentives not much different price
than a used one that
low mileage especially a certified one
okay
I would any of the midsize
most of them are always
rated at 3,500 pounds
but I would rather see you get something
that is rated
for 5,000 pounds
just to be safe
and what you'd notice the difference is when you hit
a hill or something along those
lines
yep
when you're not towing
you're carrying a lot of people
no
no okay never
never alright so
I would tell you
if you don't want to go like
Chevy Tahoe
the Ford Explorer
is it makes a great
tow vehicle I would think about that
I would tell you that
the Toyota 4
runner will do the job
and quality wise
it's terrific
it's certainly one that you want to
put on the list
I would look at a
Chevy Trail I'm sorry
Chevy Blazer
not the Trail Blazer I think it's going to be too small
but a Chevy Blazer
would do a good job
a Jeep
Cherokee
will do a good job with it
you want an SUV
you want to pick up right
right yeah I prefer an SUV
nah I don't blame you
if you don't need to pick up you don't need it
but any of those
go ahead
would any of the Mercedes
or the Land Rover's do it
oh absolutely
both of those
what about Lexus
the RX350
will do it
it'll pull it just fine
if you want to go luxury
they're all geared for that
so talk to one of my dealers there in Houston
there are a lot of good midsize SUVs
find out which one is right for you
