And we'll have like a, I don't want to call it a top-key stall.
We'll have a team that's no cars allowed.

where you can only take one form of public transport one.

It was pretty much an XI6 drivetrain.

It was in Queensland, I think.

And it was engineered and it was like, what, nine grand or something?
I don't know, like, less than one, just eight and a half.
We were talking about it and this is what we used to do on the live streaming.
And the next day, I get a call from Rob and my wife over at work and he's like,
oh, you know that barrow murk?
He's like, yeah, he's like, oh, yeah, I bought it.
I'm like, wait, what?
You were like, oh, I was enamored by it.
How long did you have that for, that murk?

Or was it 56 years?
Yeah.
It took me two to get it back on the road properly because it actually was flooded
out in Queensland.
It was set where the dealership was.
It was Luns Auto in Brisbane.
His dealership got flooded out and the car sat in the water for a while.
So it was all rusted out in the boot, the lower quarter panels, everything was all rusted out.
So I had to get it all cut out and redone.
Was that rusted with the swap already done?
Yeah.

How long was it sitting like that?
I would say it would have been there for a year or two.
They just sat there.
I think he got to a point where he's just had enough and he wanted to sell it.
So anyway, he thought I was just another person, you know, tire kicking.
And I said, no, look, give me your back details as soon as he buys it.
And I'm buying it.
So I sent a mate up there who drives, takes caravans up to Queensland on a weekly basis,
and he towed it back with me.
There was.
Yeah, probably, you know, not the average car of the week situation.
But, yeah, something we actually bought it for once.
And there you go.
You did quite well with that, didn't you?

So that's when I had a lot of troubles with the council.

And that hearing David's passion for that event and all the hard work that he did, that
kind of gave me the feel to go, well, maybe I should do it because I don't think anyone
else is going to do a 40th anniversary on a magna, which let's face it, a lot of people
have never even really thought second about.
So it was, yeah, a wonderful process of going through and discussing it and hitting brick
walls, but then doors opening and it was kicking them down.

And I think the wonderful thing is, you know, thanks to community radio, thanks to you
guys, it was a really organic process and it just grew.
And I was talking to my wife Laura about it today and I said, you know, I never paid for
any advertising for that event, not even a Facebook ad, nothing.
It was just going on radio, just doing posts on it, just talking to people, talking to
owners, you guys promoting it.
It was just, and it just grew from, yeah, we might get 10 cars to, we've got 155, 500
people came and people drove across the Nullar board to be there.
So I mean, that's wild.
It's the power of, I think, the good side of doing things online and social media and
community radio as well.
I've always said it's a powerful thing.
You just got to use it.

I knew it was going to be a decent event, but I didn't realize how big it was going to
be.

You had people dying to get in at the end.

time on the day, hoping that it would work out and it was one of the best weekends of
my life, I have to say.

It was just, everyone was just so, like, humble and happy to be there.

But those who were there, all the feedback that I've had ever since is like, wow, I've
never been to anything like it, which is lovely.

But this place was wide out.
It was like three or four levels.
One level was just all the motorbikes, like the Honda motorbikes, the Cubs and race bikes and everything.

It was a phenomenal, phenomenal thing.
I couldn't recommend it enough to go there.
Absolutely wild, wild time.
But yeah, that was a really awesome trip.

So basically, Matt was particularly proud that he got this car for free.

Anyone would be.
And we were adamant in making Matt acknowledge that he was eventually going to pay enough
for repairs for this car.
That was no longer a free car.
It was basically more than the cost of the car.
So he started hiding whatever the repairs were.
But Scotty, the sleuth would find out.
He's trying to minimize the damage of how free this car was.
So at the end of the week, you know, Scotty would have to snitch on what kind of breakdown
happened, what it cost.

Who was the actual snitch?
No, I just think I just found out through your man.
Yeah, so just through normal conversations and stuff.

And it always showed like three quarters of a tank.

It's literally, I didn't make it to the radio station on the night of recording.
And I think I messaged you and I was like, I'm not going to make it.
So I'm like prepared.
I still wasn't fully trained at the radio station today.
So I'm prepared just waiting for Matt to show up.
And I think Anthony as well had rocked up for the show.
So I'm like, Matt will be here any minute.
Just getting more and more excited.
The apprentice is about to run the show.
I just get the text.
He's like, yeah, the car's out of fuel.
I'm near the exit of the ring road.
So Anthony ran out coming in clutch.
And I started the program.
And I think I snitched immediately to the listeners that this has happened.
There was technical difficulties.
But that was obviously going to bring that up if you didn't.
That was probably a fond memory of car talk.

I will say though, Anthony got a Jerry can and saved my ass.
And then we drove to the petrol station.
And I proceeded to fill it through the petrol and it was fine.
But literally everything that could have went wrong with that car went wrong.
And I had a young panel on here taking over in my absence.
It was a good half an hour.
I was stuck on the side of the road.
So yeah, that was a fun experience.
And I think Scotty would just snitch because the car would always be blowing smoke or this or that.
It was just, it was, but by the end of it, it was actually a really good car.
And my uncle, someone picked it up for a forum here and drove it all the way to Grafton without a single hitch.
The thing drove better.
The guy got a bloody fine on the way out.
So like it's for spare speeding fine.
The thing was flying.
So yeah, that was.
So your uncle still got the car?

So it broke, it broke down as it normally did.
And the car literally rolled in because like, and the power steering was locking up because
I was like, oh, shit, here we go.

It just rolled into it and I just drove into a car spot.
I was trying to start.

How did the source of that, and how did you make all this?
Well, that, that is a, that is a good point.
Basically.
Um, so it started because I was sitting down with, um, uh, friends of the show, uh, Adam
and James and, and we'd always catch up and just talk cars.
Like, I mean, when we talk, I talk cars with you.
I talk cars with Scotty.
I talk cars, cars with everybody.
And like, we'd always have good conversation.
And I was like, why don't we, why don't we do something with this?
Like, we, um, so we decided to, we filmed an episode, like our first kind of thing.
We called it the good room, um, because it was like trying to be like the, like, none
as good room, like no one ever goes in the city.
And then you sit in there and you do your podcast.
And we filmed one, we filmed one episode and we kind of edited it.
And, um, it was very, like 20 minutes of just, just talking.
And it kind of didn't go, but then, um, through, through, through a person on,
um, it's a personal studio.
And he's like, yeah, we'd love to have like, like a, like a different sort of show,
some youth.
Cause like everyone that works there, you know, Alan's like,
60 plus.

So, so, so I was like, yeah, I tried out and the training and then I said,
oh, I'd like to do my show.

And, and they didn't really see the concept.
They didn't really see that this would work.
They thought it'd be like, I'd be here for six months and he'd piss off at 10 years later.

Um, you know, and like these were in my circle, um, you know, Scotty, Rob, Rob and Harley,
you know, uh, you, you know, I think we had James, we had Adam, we had, um, Anthony,
you know, like it was kind of like that, that's that core group, essentially.

Like there was no Adrian, um, you had, uh, you know, it was never a, um, you know,
you must be there kind of thing.
It was no obligation.

Well, I'd like to share this story of how we met.
Um, I think I, I think I was zero at the hospital.

I do enjoy the car quizzes.
I think I've won once over the years, but just as a collective, you know, I've just
been golfed for 10 years and I'm just a proud brother.
Um, you know, when you tell me you're doing it, I was like, you're going to be on the
radio.
Yeah, that's, it's sick.
It's awesome.
So it's good to get on.
Um, early, early days were good.
Obviously with the studio a lot.
Um, but yeah, as you said, two people come because they want to not like nothing's forced.
It's a, it's a very laid back show.
Um, everyone who talks to me is very knowledgeable with cars.
And the good thing is it's not just one group of, of cars.
You know, everyone has their own sort of love specific cars.
So it's not just, you know, like a GTP club, for example, it's a broad range of car lovers,
which is Honda's and Nissan's.

But yeah, like even just hearing stories from, from, you know, John's days with the older
cars.
And I think as I get older or you get older, you kind of not fantasize about the older
cars, but you know, you wish you maybe bought them earlier because as John always says, they
are an ordinary car.

So now I'm just, yeah, proud brother and yeah, very happy.

I think that's part of the reason why, why the show works the way, works the way it does,
because we've all got our different takes and tastes of cars.
You know, not everybody's into like Lamborghinis and Ferraris.
Um, people are into, you know, basic stuff, Camry's and, and Magnus and Mustangs and
lasers and, you know, I-30s and all sorts of, you know, all sorts of things.
It doesn't matter.
I guess like the, the whole, you know, just of it is we've got the appreciation of cars.
And I think that's, I think that's what kind of, you know, if you're a car person, you're
a car person, I think.
And I'm a strong believer of that.
Like, you know, like it's kind of like a universal language.
You know, you can all understand it.
If you, if you like cars, like, you know, I like that.
Even if you could, you could be on a different country where you see like a car that you
like drive past and someone doesn't speak your language, like maybe you'd be like,
give them a nod.
You know, you're like, yeah, the nod of approval.
Like, you know, it's, it's a universal language, I think, cars.
And, um, I think being able to discuss that and talk about that and have that, that impact
with the people we do this with, I think it's, it makes it all worthwhile.
So I think that for me, the biggest highlight of this is doing it with you guys.
You guys just get it.
And, um, and I think our listeners do as well.
And, you know, for them, like it's, they hear just some voices come through their radio.
But for us, it's us just talking.
And, you know, it's, the show doesn't feel forced.
Like it's just like, oh, you know, we guys, we've got to talk about this day.
It's like, we actually, we have a vested interest.
It comes across very natural as a, as a longtime listener.

Literally the next day he's like, yeah man, hold on.
And I was like, oh, he's like, let's take it up.

And then when he like, I sent him a link and when he clicked on it,
I was like, oh, it's actually him.
Like it was, it was weird looking at him.

We lost a lot of listeners, but then we're gradually getting back.
So, but no, apart from that, it's, it's, you know, it's been a great 10 years and he's
the next 10 years.
It's next 600 episodes.
So I'll end the show there.

So I've got a golf tip of the week and this is going to be a little bit more visual.
So if you listen to suck shit mainly, but so it's a little drill that I actually just
saw today when it helps you chipping around the green.
So usually you're going to have your feet together and you're facing the ball and you'll
chip that way.
But what you actually do is have your feet facing outwards.
So towards the green instead and then practice chipping like that.
And you'll be hitting the ball a lot more other than topping it and things like that
all the time.
Is that because it's really cool?
Body angle or is that?
Don't know.
Physics.
But I saw one person try it and was doing it as the drill and then I was flicking through
tiktok and maybe like 10 minutes later it was someone else that was doing the exact same
drill and just explaining how it works really well.
Because a lot of times when you're around the green, like you're going to either top
it or you're just going to chunk it every time.
And this helps you.

Hopefully I'm going to go out and play either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
