Welcome back to EV News China.
Today, Zika upgrades the 007,
X-Punk files for its Range Rover lookalike the GX,
and Xiaomi's YU7 GT performance.
Plus, stay tuned because later in the show,
I'll tell you about the massive milestone Neo just hit for battery swapping.
Welcome to EV News China, the podcast dedicated to the world's largest
EV market every day.
You get the latest headlines, insights, and analysis
from the heart of China's booming EV industry.
And I decode how fast moving developments in the East
shape the global landscape.
We'll start with news of Zika.
We'll launch an updated version of its 007 sedan and its 007 GT.
That's the wagon it'll be in queue to this year.
Following Chinese regulatory filings that reveal
significant upgrades, both models will offer rear-wheel drive
and all-wheel drive configurations
with substantially more power.
The most significant change is the new 900 volts high voltage
architecture paired with NVIDIA's drive for you,
advanced driving assistance chips.
This electrical system upgrade enables much faster charging
speeds while supporting the enhanced motor outputs.
Speaking of which, rear-wheel drive models
now deliver 370 kilowatts.
That's a nice bump on the existing model.
All-wheel drive variants now get a combined output of 585
kilowatts.
That is a gain of 110 kilowatts on the outgoing version.
The updated 007 sedan, well, that
receives modest exterior revisions,
a new lower bumper air vents, and optional carbon fiber
kit covering the front fascia side skirts,
or a spoiler as well.
The current 007 GT pricing, that starts at about $29,000
US dollars and goes to about $33.5.
And it has its China range of between about $585
and 825 kilometers.
The existing 007 sedan is a little more expensive.
It starts at about $30,300 US equivalent
and goes all the way up to $43,000 US dollars.
But the top trim of that does go up to 870 kilometers
on the China cycle for the existing sedan version.
So it's obviously a busy day for filing news
as we get some of the regulatory details coming out
of cars that we know are coming.
I talked about this one either yesterday
or earlier in the week.
Let's talk about X-Pung filing for its flagship SUV, the GX.
This is a three-row, six-seat luxury vehicle, China's
Ministry of Industry and Information Technology clearing
the final hurdle before sale is approved,
positioning the six-seat SUV for launch within months
according to the CEO, He Xiaoping.
The GX is 5.26 meters long.
It's two meters wide and 1.8 meters tall.
It's got a 3.1-meter wheelbase.
Both the Bev and the extended range variants
will both top out over 200 kilometers an hour top speed.
The E-rev version pairs a 1.5-liter range extender
with dual motors rated at 210 kilowatts front, 160 rear,
and tipping the scales at 2,890 kilograms.
The Bev variant, well, that's about the same weight
as well, and it has rear-wheel drive
and all-wheel drive configurations,
either a 270 kilowatt rear motor,
or pairing it alongside a 160 kilowatt front motor as well
for all-wheel drive.
The battery is a lithium-ion phosphate pack from CALB
for both powertrains plus for the Bev model,
there will be an NMC pack chemistry as well.
Advanced features include steer-by-wire,
rear-wheel steering, and even level four
autonomous driving capability,
powered by four Turing chips
and 3,000 tops of computing power.
The timing supports their target for the year,
X-Pung wants to deliver 600,000 vehicles,
that's up from 430,000 vehicles last year,
and this is the vehicle that when you see it,
I'm always very, very careful doing
EV News China, our spin-off podcast,
not to fall into the trap of,
it's a lazy cliche, many people think the Chinese stuff
is either just a derivative
or sometimes just an out-and-out copy.
This is the one time when I'll break my own rule
and say, this is a Range Rover Velar,
this is every day of the week,
go and look at this vehicle,
the wheels, the styling, the front,
the little flourishes, and it's just a Range Rover.
So what we're X-Pung thinking,
they're on such a rich form
of creating some wonderful vehicles,
some really original vehicles as well
at times, some fantastic innovation.
Well, they know what they're doing,
not my job to comment on their business,
but they have gone all out with the tracing paper ungone.
Let's make a Range Rover,
and so we'll see how that sells.
Talking of new filing day with new vehicles
that we get to find out more about
that we've talked about recently,
Xiaomi filed with the ministry for the YU7,
that's their SUV, a performance variant, the GT.
This is 738 kilowatts of power, all-wheel drive,
almost 1,000 horsepower, by the way.
Rear wheel bias, rear wheel powered bias,
I should say, rear axle power bias.
So 450 kilowatt on the rear motor
and 300 kilowatts up front.
The standard YU7 max at the moment
is 700 horsepower, which is plenty,
and all to 62 in three seconds, 3.23 seconds.
The GT's additional power will obviously
bring that sprint down, something in the twos,
2.0 second, 300 kilometers an hour top speed.
Physical changes include a wide body,
stretching the dimensions a little bit as well.
Design details include red brake calipers,
a large rear diffuser, GT badging,
and an all black exterior.
CATL supplies the ternary lithium-ion battery pack,
though capacity was undisclosed.
So what's it gonna cost then?
This is hugely top end high performance,
market speculation, places the pricing up to 500,000 yuan,
which is 72,000 US dollars equivalent,
positioning it below the SU7 Ultra, that's the sedan.
That is 1500 horsepower tri-motor total beast.
The YU7 delivered about 40,000 units in December
and about 150,000 units for all of last year,
and it's kicked off the year really strongly.
In a Chinese market that had some wobbles in January actually,
delivered 40,000 units in January,
and so off to a good start,
and it's all they've got to sell you at the moment
as the SU7 now comes off sale.
Maybe I'll talk a little bit more about that next week
on EV News China.
Now let's talk a little bit about another filing
with the ministry, and that is the Wei V9X.
The Wei V9X is a plug-in hybrid.
It's a luxury six-seater SUV,
debuting Great Wall Motors' new one-platform.
5.3 meters long, so again, it's a really large vehicle.
Over two meters wide, over 1.8 meters tall,
wheelbase 3.15 meters.
So plug-in hybrid means a two-liter turbo engine
with electric motors, four and a half seconds,
naught to 60, they say, and they give figures
for the state of charge of the battery.
So 4.4 seconds, naught to 62 miles an hour
if your battery is charged,
and they also give a slower figure
if your battery's a bit more drained,
which I've never seen before.
If it happens, I've never noticed it,
but there's an interesting statistic to put out there.
So pure electric range is what you're wondering.
Up to 363 kilometers, Great Wall Motors say
you could do 400 kilometers possible.
This has got an 800-volt architecture and a six-C battery
in terms of how quickly this will recharge,
a significant engineering achievement.
They also say it's its first native AI powertrain architecture,
not fully sure what that means,
but everything's AI these days, isn't it?
A plug-in hybrid, a battery electric,
and even a hybrid version of this powertrain coming out
across different hardware, different cars,
they say it would be fuel cell compatible.
A battery electric variance will use
up to 900-volt architecture.
Great Wall Motor confirming Wei's Australian launch as well.
So they have 123 dealers down under,
positioning the brand as a very premium Great Wall Motor brand.
If you wanna go buy a Wei vehicle,
my Aussie listeners have this on the table, by the way.
Up against things like the Zika 9X, that's a tri-motor,
Beast as well, the IMLS9.
That got off to a great start recently.
So in Australia, obviously, right-hand drive,
I do keep an eye on that for the market I'm in as well.
Many of the Australian vehicles,
we have a lot to thank Australia for.
Obviously, it's proximity to China,
bit of a test bed for some of those right-hand drive vehicles
that then we get as well, which is wonderful.
Now, we'll take a quick break, we'll come back
and we'll talk Tesla Shanghai and Foxconn, stick around.

Tesla produced about 1.655 million units worldwide.
The Shanghai plant functions easily
as Tesla's largest export center,
shipping vehicles to Asia Pacific and European markets.
Deliveries to Asia Pacific hit their highest levels
last year.
Shanghai drove multiple milestones
throughout the last couple of years.
In July, 2024, they made their 10 millionth
electric drive units, EDU.
In December last year,
they completed their four millionth vehicle,
taking less than 14 months
to go from three to four million vehicles made.
And at the very end of last year,
Tesla's nine millionth vehicle globally
came out of Shanghai.
Tao also noted that Tesla's energy storage gigafactory
operates with production capacity serving multiple domestic
and even international markets out of China as well.
Growth momentum has carried into the beginning of this year
with Tesla getting off to a good start in January
in a Chinese market that was less strong.
Foxconn has opened a one billion
you on new energy vehicle R&D center in Henan Providence.
They opened this two days ago on the 4th of February.
The facility was completed seven months
after breaking ground last July in the summer.
Built by Foxconn new energy vehicle industries,
the center operates inside the Zones Auto City,
the company positions it
as a global smart manufacturing benchmark
covering EV product planning,
EV platform development and vehicle manufacturing.
NEV general manager at the facility
said it runs a contract design
and manufacturing service model.
Foxconn has reduced development cycles for EVs
for new models to just 24 months
with more use of digital R&D
and improved coordination between smart factories
and supply chains.
The new Foxconn sensor will collaborate with partners
on next-gen electronic and electrical architectures,
intelligent driving
and the launch marks a big expansion for Foxconn in Henan
where it's been operating since 2010.
The company's NEV business in the zone now encompasses
R&B production, trial production,
even mass production as well.
The sequence began with a trial production center last year
and a new R&D center as well.
BYD's regulatory filings show off their new flagship SUV.
I've talked about this a fair amount recently,
nothing new really we can add to this.
So the Great Tang, which is a great name
for its top of the range flagship vehicle.
The Great Tang from BYD,
otherwise known as the Datang,
it sits as a nine series product in its dynasty lineup,
targeting a price over $57,000 US dollars
and launching in the first half-sometime of this year,
it undercuts its rivals like the Aito M9
by a significant junk actually while competing directly
with things like the Lioto L9,
the X-Pung GX that I just talked about
in that kind of 400,000 yuan price bracket.
The full-size SUV includes a closed grille
with a star ring chrome trim,
the Tang logo in a kind of ancient seal script,
vertical, air ducts, semi-hidden door handles,
and of course the mandatory full-width tail light,
and it's not mandatory, you know, I'm being sarcastic.
Power train options include single motor,
a 300 kilowatts or 370 kilowatts and a dual motor,
which adds a 215 kilowatt motor up front
to the more powerful 370 kilowatt unit at the rear.
So it's BYD Super E platform.
Great Tang would offer megawatts,
what BYD brand is flash charging.
So that's 1,000 kilowatts of charging
at least with their current technology.
They talk about their next-gen motor
spinning at 30,000 RPM and adding 400 kilometers of range
in a five-minute charge stop.
It's just next level,
more than anything we get over here.
The first-gen chargers,
so-called flash chargers, 1,000 kilowatt charging
infrastructure came out at the early part
of last year, March, last year, we first saw that.
I've told you recently on this podcast
and I've got some more news coming
of their next-generation system.
I mentioned 1,500 kilowatts,
new leaks point to that going up to 2,100 kilowatts,
2.1 megawatts of charging.
Yeah, mind officially blown.
The great Tang will be BYD's first model
featuring rear-wheel steering,
potentially shifting competitive focus
from things like all-out specs
to a charging battle at the top end.
Aito, I mentioned them a moment ago,
they filed for an SUV called the M6
with public feedback open now until the 13th of February.
The M6 developed by Huawei and Ceres
enters as a five-seat SUV.
The M6 is still a big vehicle,
and it's 4.96 meters long.
It's still got that big three-meter wheelbase as well.
So, large vehicle.
E-rev version, pairs of 1.5-liter range extender
with dual motors.
The Bev version, either single motor or dual motor.
CATL supplies the batteries for this one.
100 kilowatt-hour pack in the Bev,
and the E-rev versions have up to 53 kilowatt-hour
battery packs, of course, on top of the engine, LFP,
and ternary chemistries available.
Aito serves as the first brand under Huawei's
Himo H-I-M-A business.
The company marked its one millionth vehicle
rolling off production lines last month in January,
with the current lineup is the M9, M5, M7,
I don't know, I didn't do this in order,
M5, M7, M8, and then nine.
They're all SUVs.
So what we're talking about here is the M6 SUV
being added to the lineup.
Right, a couple more stories.
China captured 35.6% of global car sales last year,
according to the China Passenger Car Association.
Global sales reached 96 million cars,
if you're wondering how many cars were added
to planet Earth last year.
China's market share has climbed steadily.
Around the mid-20 teens, can we call that, 2016?
So China's global market share was about 30%.
The pattern last year showed obviously a great increase
in electric vehicles.
China exported 8.32 million vehicles last year,
up 30%, maintaining its position
as the world's largest exporter for three consecutive years.
New energy vehicle exports were 3.43 million
of that 8.3 million, so that's up 70%.
And almost half of all the vehicles now,
almost half of everything exported overseas from China
is now an EV, that's incredible.
And finally, NIO has now logged a big milestone,
100 million battery swaps.
And they took 2,819 days to do that.
William Lee and Chen Fei marked the live stream,
or the moment with the live stream I should say,
for 100 million battery swaps.
The network officially opened on May the 20th, 2018.
NIO's first battery swap station began operations
at the Nanshan Science and Tech Park in Shenzhen.
Those early stations held four or five batteries,
and they would do between 70 and 120 battery swaps a day,
taking up to five minutes a swap.
Drivers also needed manual help
to position the car correctly.
NIO is now onto its fourth generation network.
Battery swapping is two minutes 24,
and it stores 23 batteries per station,
and they do 480 swaps per day.
They also use the milestone to pitch the service.
Envo owners will have battery swap service fees
waived over Chinese New Year.
Next comes another upgrade cycle.
Sometime in Q2, they have promised details on there.
Gen five stations, beginning construction
with NIO aiming for faster speeds,
even faster, better compatibility, and lower costs.
