All the solutionaries help us to make welcome for the first time on the CarGuy Coffee podcast
as a duo tag team over here with a double shot of bringing that energy to the CarGuy Coffee
podcast. We got some CarClicks action happening right now. Please make welcome Lori and Mike from
CarClicks. Let's go. Welcome to the show. How are you guys? Hi, thank you for having us.
We are really, I'm really excited to have you. I don't know, I'm getting a little wordy. I'm
getting a little pumped up. I really am excited about the solutions that you all are brewing for
the industry and I can't wait to just get it out there and let everybody know what's brewing.
Yeah, absolutely. And really quick, while we get things going, but I know we're really excited
about this show today for so many reasons. For one, Mike, we're excited because what you've
done inside this industry is amazing, but you do this in a lot of different industries and we
can get into that a little bit today and I can't wait to hear more. And Lori, you've been a friend
of ours for a long time. I've seen what you've done with a couple other companies and how you've
been able to help get them to the next level. And I can't wait to see what happens with you and Mike
because I already know this is a dynamic duo. So I'm super excited about this show today because
of those two reasons alone, but really learning more about your business is a big deal. I think
our network needs to really learn about what's happening right now, car clicks. And I got to
ask the question, Mike, tell a little bit about what's happening, what brought car clicks out and
what maybe was the idea that made it become where it is today. Actually, I'll take you through my
history. So I've been in the industry for 40 years, started with, which was ADP Now CDK, did
about everything at that company. And in the late nineties, when the CRM world started, I actually
started with another person, a CRM. So we had actually did a product called Sales at CRM.
Pretty successful, had about 500 dealers. And ultimately got purchased by a company
in Dallas. And in that process, I met up with pretty major player in the automotive industry. He
owned a company called Incision Technologies. And he asked me to come along and help him develop a new
product. And so that was Max Digital. So people who know NADA for years, they might have run into
the Max Digital big booth that we would have every year. And that was Pat Ryan, Jr. that actually
was behind that. So in that process worked for him for two years, developed Max Digital, launched
that. And then in that process, started learning inventory, basically the marketing of a car,
right? Product marketing of a vehicle. And so what ended up happening was, came across a great
domain, wanted to get into the V2C side. So I acquired AutoSales. So AutoSales.com, and we'll
get into this product and how we got here. I actually tried to launch a major portal, not
realizing how much money I needed. But in the process, ultimately created car clicks. So AutoSales
was a site that we could get leads off of. But really over the over the years,
people wanted traffic, right? They wanted to figure out, we were doing Google,
Facebook, we were really good at it. We knew how to actually market vehicles on those platforms.
But ultimately, that evolved to instead of auto sales, which we still have, and we can talk about
that, that we launched in 2012 car clicks. So to be clear, this is a product that's been around
for almost 12 years, did really well behind the scenes. We have well over 1200 dealers on the
platform. But we've stayed behind the scenes, led agents market it. And we want to move out there
and really take it out of the metro market into the whole country. And 2012, we launched it. By 2018,
we mastered it through figuring out how to use AutoSales data to create the product. So I'll give
you really the uniqueness. And then you guys, there's questions, but we figured out how to get
an audience that nobody has. So today, our clicks runs off of an audience of real devices that are
in market. We're able to do that by using AutoSales and other properties we have to see people that
are in market. And then we basically parse it down to a local area. And then what we do is we use
the national world of marketing, they call it the DSP world, right, the big, the news, the sports,
the weather. So we end up finding people that are looking for your making model. And we put it in the
area that they're in. So if you're in Chicago, and you're looking for a specific vehicle, we see
you're looking for it, then we start targeting the cars that a local dealer that we're partnered
with, and they're using our product car clicks, they start seeing those cars in the morning. So
this is a great point coffee. When you wake up in the morning, you look at your news, you look at
your sports investment sites, now you're starting to see these cars. So that's the simplistic version
of car clicks. It has evolved. And even if you look at our product in 2018, in 2026, it is so much
ahead of where it was. But most importantly, the data that we have is there, there isn't a single
company and I try to stay humble. I try to stay behind the scenes. But the reality of this is
nobody has their data. So we have millions of clickstream files of a device, what they're looking
at the actual car they're looking at, the location they're at, are they human? And then what we do
is we take that, and then when you do all your general lifestyle stuff, news, sports, weather,
investments, even sometimes on auto sites, you will see our cars that were published for dealers
through the car clicks network. That's an amazing thing that you're doing. And being with the
experience that you've had in the time that you've had in the automotive industry, you look very young
to be saying that many years, sir. In car years, that makes you like 400, right? Because that's a
lot of things that's happened in that time in automotive, right? But what I mean by that is
that's how much knowledge you have right there. And really, I know that this industry has evolved
so much, you've seen so many different things. But one thing is managing your inventory and
showing your inventory is so big and being and doing it the right way. I got to ask a really
quick question, because this is something I know that for me, if I'm sitting inside, I'm a dealer,
and I'm sitting in my seat, what am I doing wrong most of the time? What most dealers,
what's something that you see that dealers are doing wrong with their inventory right now online?
I would say this. So the uniqueness of car clicks and where it is. So dealers in general
are for the most part branding, right? They're marketing themselves.
Correct. You got to do that. You have the reputation matters, location matters. But when it's
all said and done, if you look at inventory marketing, especially on the used car side,
you might be a Ford dealer, but you got Chevy's today, right? And there's really no way to market
a vehicle that is not your brand because people have branded you as a Ford dealer and there's
your Chevy. So I think really where we come in is the ability to buy your inventory mix,
figure out what we can market for you that people aren't thinking of you and are not coming to your
website, right? So if you look at what's happened in the market over the last 20 plus years, the
portals, which I own a portal, technically, AutoSills is a portal, they've handled that issue,
right? They've been the place to go where you can see all used cars and we do new and used,
but on the used car side of it, what you have and then they find you. Not knowing they could be a
mile away, they think you was a Ford dealer, but you got the perfect Chevy one. Exactly.
That's where I think, so inventory marketing and you brought it up, we do more than just
automotive. We do other industries, but there's products out there that you may have an interest
in that are miles away from you, but you're looking further away because you don't realize
that you're right there. So I think that's what car clicks is. It's really trying to find somebody
looking for that product, that specific vehicle and putting that car out there and not in really
making them realize that Ford dealer has that Chevy and come look at it. But on the other side of it,
we're also doing new car marketing. I think there's the second part of it. You have a budget
and you're a franchise dealer and you're trying to market your new cars, but you have new and
used and what's your inventory mix today? So if your inventory makes you have lots of new and
minimal use, then we're going to handle that by we're marketing all those cars. But on the flip
side, I hear it all the time where, hey, we don't have allocation. We don't have cars right now.
So now they don't have their new car allocation. We're going to make sure their used cars get
market. So I think that's the uniqueness of car clicks. We try not to take it down to
only one side of that equation. What I mean by that is we're taking a budget
and we're looking at new and used. We're looking at the percent of the cars you have
and we're trying to market all those cars. There's other providers that may go to just
certain cars, but I believe that at seven o'clock tonight when you take in a trade and if they did
a great job and tomorrow it's out there, that car is available to market. If you're not in marketing
all those cars, it's not going to happen. Okay, that's how you make it.
You have it. If it's your only car, it needs all your attention. If it's one of thousands of cars,
it needs all of your attention. It's still just as important. You should still be motivated to
give all your efforts to any piece of your inventory that you have. If you bought it,
the intent is to sell unless you're wholesaling. Make the metal move. The idea is to leverage every
tool that you have, every bit of data. The truth is there's a lot of people that don't
understand the data. It's unfathomable how much data there is, how many different pieces and
insights there are, how many different weaves there are inside of this web of information
that connects us to the right vehicle at the right time with the right dealer based off of
something we did, something the customer initiated and some of the habits that the customer has
inside of the data points that you collect. For those that are listening and for those that are
whether you're watching or you're on the ride or you're on the walk and you're trying to understand
with all of these different things and all of these tools, what is actually making some of this
data start to be compiled for the customer? Asking you all what kind of things is it that
really initiates the initial point where we're starting to get that info from the customer,
whether it's directly on a dealership site because a lot of customers start directly on
a dealership site only. They may have got there through Google, but now they're directly inside
of the dealership site. They asked for some information and somehow you got it. The dealership
thinks, no, I'm the only one that has the info of the person that came directly to my site,
but that person did a little bit of leapfrogging before they really even got to that site. They
may have started somewhere inside of social media, made it to a landing page to another place that
then connected me to a carousel of cars that now I'm over here, now I'm getting a call from a customer
or from a sales pro and I really don't know how that path even got started. How did I make this
big wave? That was a little journey, right? Yeah, so you got a great point. Great point, though.
So, Lou, what is unique about us is every 15 minutes we get about 3000000000 records.
3000000000 By device. So if you think about that, that isn't 3000000000 people,
but if I'm a device, it could be a phone, it could be a laptop, it could be, you name it, and they
look at, they start looking at cars, they could look at, I do it myself, I might look at five
or six cars in 15 minutes. So that data, those five detailed items, we're in a network because we
have auto sales and we're sharing data with other people in that network. And so what happens is
that data gets dropped every 15 minutes to a bucket that then we process through and we break
it down to first geo, then what are they looking at? Are they looking at specifically makes,
models, new use, but to your point, this is where, so if we go back to 2022, what we're doing today,
what CarClix does today could not have been done in 2022. Why is that? Because the cost to take all
that data and process it through all these channels quickly and then create an audience that
technically is near real time. So we're near real time within probably an hour. We're posting out
there. This device is looking at this. We want to go after it. We're asking the world of the web
where you can market the publishers going, if you see this device, we want to run this car against
it. But the process that data back a few years ago was really, you'd basically go broke. The cost
to take that kind of data, continually process it has come. The AI world is so radical. So guys
that have put it behind me, but I hate when people say AI because there's such a broad scope to what
that may mean. But really what is AI? The ability to take data and quickly process it through huge
solutions, the snowflakes, the data bricks, Azure, Amazon, that stuff didn't exist
at the local level for a local business until the last year or two. And that's what we're doing.
So what are we doing that's so unique? We're able to process, slice it down, get it into an audience.
So previous to 2022, we bought audiences. Those audience were, they were aged. They were questionable.
We couldn't see really the details. Our audience is us. We don't use anyone else's audience.
Welcome to anyone. I want to reach out to me. I'll explain to what we originally did, but there's tons
of audiences you can use, but you don't know what's in that audience. Our audience, near real time,
it is only us processing that data that couldn't be done within the last 24 months only because of
the proliferation of data centers and processing and the cost. And if you look at the cost
in the last 24 months, it's probably a third of what it was on 2022. So that's really what Carflix,
so this is a new product. It's not a new product in that we've had it around for 12 years,
but it's a new, it technically is a new product in the data that it has. We've had this going on
for a couple of years. We really couldn't afford this massive, the ability to process it till the
last year, but the audiences are amazing, the depth, the ability to determine if it's human.
There's all kinds of data set up there for that. The location, we can get it down to
often the actual physical handful we have inside of our application at Carflix in our dashboard.
You can see this address looked at this car. Now, we never crossed PII. You guys probably had some
people that have joined on that side of it. We don't know who they are. We just know
basically where they are. So that's what a dealer wants, right? He wants someone looking at my car
that we know is real, that we can then obviously determine we're buying the right kind of traffic,
and you can see the journey. And then we give that information back to the dealer so that
they can see that, they can market to that, and they can also have a sales matchback because
that's most important. That's what everybody's always asked me for the last two years. Give me
sales matchback. Guess what? Now I can do that for them. But Lori just led into something that
I've learned in the last two years, which I think is really key. There is no such thing as
single point attribution. This is all about marketing working together. You see our car,
you click on it, you go to the website, you get busy, we're trying to target you again,
but more importantly, then you go, oh, I saw the car, I'm going to go directly to Google. So one of
the key things I would tell you that we have learned over the last two years is it really is
multi-touch attribution, but we'll do the attribution because we can see it. And we can see
who else is in there helping to get that done. Social media matters, Google matters, but I would
put us in a kind of a video streaming matters, but kind of that fourth or fifth tier is the world of
kind of the open web of sites, all the big news sites. Weather.com, we are there all the time.
It's one of our biggest providers of that spot. You go look at a car,
we know you're looking for this car in the morning, you wake up and you look at weather.
You guys, I tell you what, you guys, right? And I love that. And I'm hoping you dealers are hearing
what they're talking about here because this is where people are at responding to them. They're
hitting places that other people that are doing what they're doing are not hitting right now.
I'm telling you, this is like where people are at. So I love that you're talking about this. A lot
of dealers are probably like, I've been doing this or I'm doing that. I got to ask you, Laurie,
really quick. You know what? Really quick. I demoed 34 different groups last week.
And now one of them said that what I'm giving them, they have seen from another vendor today
that what I'm giving them is new. I believe that excited and they cannot wait to get on with us.
Here's my passion. I love that. I was on a folks, I was on a demo with them and I did the demo and
I was blown away. This is, we don't just partner up and put people on the show or create shows just
because we think it's cool. We do it because we believe in the products that we're talking about.
And man, this is an amazing thing. And I got to ask really quick, Laurie, what separates dealerships
that actually embrace the change and then those who actually struggle with it right now with
because people need to jump on this. The ones that are doing it, where do you see what separates
them? But also what do you see as a common habit with the highest performing dealer partners that
you have? Honestly, it's the in market shoppers. These are shoppers that we're never going to come
to their website. They want, they want to found them. We are connecting that in market shopper
with that dealership is truly looking for that inventory today. So again, they might not have
gotten to ABC Chevrolet, but we're going to connect them with ABC Chevrolet. That's
right. Making sure that we do find the connection and connecting the dots.
We don't want to be marketed about anything that we don't want to be marketed about.
Sometimes we don't know necessarily what the combination of pitches or views or
content absorption that we need as a customer. Everybody's different. For me, you might just
show me one picture and I'm like, yep, I want it. I'm buying it. Others may, I need to watch 10,
12 different videos. I got to look at every angle from, I got to read all of the stats.
I got to do all the comparisons. Other people are different and every audience is different and you
collect all of this data to be able to speak to them in relevancy. And that's the part where
most of us inside of the sales industry, why we are so gun shy of even reaching out to a customer,
even as simple as making the phone call, is because we don't necessarily know what to say
to the customer in relevance to what they want to talk about. If we don't know what car they
wanted to find, we just see a name and a number, we don't call them. Because I don't know what car
when we don't have all the information in front of us. And because of those that have less,
reducing less. Sorry about that. You know, when we're able to follow that customer and that
customer journey, we're able to give that information back to the dealer and they could
have started on that 2026 Chevrolet, whatever, it could be Tahoe. But we could see the journey
that they looked at five other vehicles in your inventory, and so we're able to actually give
that information back also. I think that's key to what you're saying, like what Lori is saying.
A lot of times the journey may start in that click that we get in there, but it's not the car they
buy. So I would argue that a dealer, even if they're not getting the exact right click,
got a good click, because now they're looking at other cars. So this goes back to, I've seen it
recently, and I totally agree with it. So we drive traffic to a car, a vehicle detail page.
Every dealer, if I can give them any advice, the BDP, as we all call it, needs to be maximized.
I've seen so many things from car effects, putting that out. And so that is your old,
that's the lot. People pull up and you want to look at the car. And so that BDP may drive a click,
and down below could be similar cars or other cars. And as the person's going through the page,
if it's done, and it's really working well, and you have a good website provider,
they click on another car. So I just, I look at this and go, we're only part of it. We can drive
the traffic. We can get someone local looking for a car and a car you have. But the old days was
you took the phone call and said, exactly what are you looking for? You're trying to find the
right match. That BDP has got to help you get there. So it's got to be set up right. So if you're
spending any money on the website side, make sure that is completely optimized. Every other car
similarly that they can look at, because that may be ultimately, I don't even know, I don't know
the numbers, but I would assume that probably half the people that look at a car in line and think
they want to buy it, buy something else, right? And we see it in the customer direction. Yes.
And this is why it is critical. One, that everybody makes that understanding that majority of the
time you begin your journey and you don't end up in the seat that you planned on, especially when
you run into somebody, we used to call it, hey, they ran into a salesperson, right? But when you
run into somebody that knows how to right fit and position somebody in the right thing, it's just
like going to a good tailor. They'll help make sure that the right colors match your skin, match
your hair, match your eyes, watch your shoes, to your socks, to the cuff links, all of that,
they're going to put it all together for you. But you have to be nimble enough to be able to know,
hey, these different measurements apply to this person their way. But oh, this is a black tie
event, I got to be able to switch it out, or that color is no longer available, or it's gone.
A lot of customers, excuse me, let me fix that, all customers are still buying something.
They're not going to get the one that they can't get, especially in the used car sector.
And this is why I love your point earlier, to highlight that the car that you may not specialize
in, the world needs to know about it. We encourage our solutionaries that are raising up around the
country that when they receive a review, they get that five star Google review and tell us,
and you can tell us whether this is completely ineffective or not. But what we've seen in real
time is that if you include the name of the car, the full breakdown of the vehicle inside of that
review, and then of course the name of the person that you're looking for, the geo part of it is
going to help you find the best person to find that type of car, and that Google review has some
strong power to rank up, who then gets recommended for somebody to go to if Google has any say in
it. Tell me if I'm wrong or not, because we encourage, make sure that you include the vehicle
type, the full description of it, because that's searchable, your full name so that you come up
and you become more Google-able and people can find you, and then of course what separated you,
what was different about your experience, and populate all that, and plus maybe sprinkle a
little media in it. How much does that actually impact the data that you all run into when it
comes to saying, hey, here's a layup for you all, and this is the right, you can find this
Cadillac at this Lincoln store, you know what I mean? And vice versa. Yeah, you nailed it,
because when they look at the car, and they haven't, let's just say that we found somebody,
we targeted them, they end up on a website, they don't know the dealer, and they look at the car
and go, I want to go see it. The next thing they're going to do is go look at the reviews. And so if
you do not have your reputation, no matter what you, if you come to me and say, I want to buy
10,000 clicks, but I'm driving traffic to you, and they're then looking at the car,
they're going to go to the review. If your score, I would argue isn't a four or five or better,
that high score versus everybody else, and then it's questionable, are they going to show up?
So that's a huge part of it. My previous role was reputation.com, so there you go.
Repetitions, yeah, absolutely. It's everything in today's world, and it's becoming more prominent
in so many ways, in searching ways, too. People search and they'll ask, what's the best place to
buy this? And if you're not in there, they're going to look at those things. So it's so crucial,
folks. We were talking with a lot of people, and I want to give some acknowledgement, some
comments that we're getting, so we haven't been able to get to them, because there's some big
comments in here. Your buddy David out here has got some really great stuff to say about the product,
really blown away by it. Obviously, he loves some stuff. But the one that I really want to point
out is this one right here. He says, this is simple, straightforward marketing without the BS,
real buyers, not bot clicks. And you can match back buyers, so much smoke and mirrors out there.
Car clicks is real data, like he capitalized that folks, real data, not predictive data, folks.
That is so crucial. I got predictive data is there, but this is real data, folks.
Matter so much. And I want to throw a shout out to also Russell Hill for saying, hello,
everyone, blessings. Let's go. Let's grow. Shout out, Russell. Love you, brother. Love what you're
doing out there. And then this is actually somebody that we work with at one of the stores,
a salesperson who's currently trying to do some big things. It's absolutely like that. That's
how I sold a lot of electric vehicles this year. It all came from one great review.
Massive, my friends. David hit him with the fire. So let's go. Appreciate you guys for
commenting. If you guys got any questions, comments, or you guys want to say something to them,
please do. We'll get them up here as soon as we can.
But back to beyond reputation. It's also, like you said, the quality of photos. It's here. I
don't know. You're so busy doing your job every day. Mr. Dealer, Mr. General Manager, that you do
need to make sure you go online, look at what you look like out there. When we're advertising,
the best thing you can do overlays. So here we get a click. They like the car. They go there.
It's the wrong color, but it says ABC Motors. Now they've branded it subliminal. So I believe that
spending all those little extra dollars that aren't overly costly, but to market that car critical.
So even if, and if you think about this, I may be targeting somebody to try to get them to your
site on that car and he didn't click, but every one of those photos has your dealer name.
That's subliminal. I got to go look at that dealer. So if you're on a new site or weather and you're
seeing the dealer name continually, because it's then that just simple little overlay at the top,
it's worth every dime you're going to spend on it. So those are just little, little recommendations,
VDP, maximize it, advertise. You're actually, you look at the ad spots, what we do,
give us all that extra stuff to make sure they know who that car is from, right?
But it's just simple things sometimes that people don't do. Because I would say more than half of
our cars don't have that. We recommend it and I don't know the cost on it, but whoever's out there
that provides that. Whoever wants to talk to me. Yeah, it's a definitely, it's a need. Yeah, definitely.
There are so many gaps inside of our marketing capabilities. I believe that we are at a time
where there's so much capability at our fingertips to be able to speak the right message at the right
time to the right person. And David's jumping back in here. When does the service clicks product go
live or did I? What's up David? So we did, I'll give you a little tidbit on our, we're really good
at determining who's in market. We did a test with a major OEM on the service side of it.
The test went really well. So we're in the process. So if you look at our car clicks program,
pretty in-depth dashboard details of the data. As Lori said, we get down to the address,
the attribution. That's really key. If you're going to test our stuff, get the attribution set up.
I'll give a shout out to AthenaCom. We want that data coming in to verify we drove it. But finally,
service clicks, all that is part of what we need. So we're in the process of building on our dashboard
that you can see all that's going on. We are working. We've got the deal done with a data
provider to get that data to match back. The cool part about service clicks will be it'll get down
to a gross because when you look at the attribution side of it, you are able to pull from a DMS all
that information of sale, et cetera, we can tie to a person. So yes, that's coming. I plan to have
that kind of a soft launch here in late June, but we will have it fully baked, fully live by
1st of August. Yeah, I heard it right here. It's all good. I'm getting into a dealers call
of time about service and we know that we are going to come out of the gates and it's going to be
huge for us. We can bundle it with our car clicks and we're very excited. But I think you just hit
really where the future is. A dealer has a budget to turn a profit, right? And what we want to do
is take our sales side car clicks and our service side tied together and depending on the month,
you can move that budget back and forth. So I think that's where you could really build something
unique that you could basically say, Hey, you know what ain't got the inventory because this is our
problem. We ended up with a dealer that didn't get allocation, trying to focus on two cars,
wants to cut a budget. And we end up sitting there with this budget where it couldn't went back to
service. So depending on the year, you know, like November, December, when it slows down for sales,
service is big, people need to come in, certainly you need to market to your service. So that's
coming. And what Top said is we're able to help with co-op. Yeah, so co-op. Yeah, I'm sure that just
made every dealer's ear go, what? All of this definitely has to have your ears perked up if
you're people that really want to produce something that is not just profitable, but actually helps
you to refine your actual proficiency at bringing a message directly to the person that wants your
product people. It's incredible that one were inside of the spot that we're in, but that all of these
other things are fixing other problems that once were big when it came to looking at the expenses
on our ROI or our proof of is this working or not. So many dealers are out there and not knowing
whether what they're doing is working. And this helps to bring that kind of clarity, which is worth
its own budget. You know what I mean? Just to get clarity on what you're doing and what's
effective so that you can reroute, readjust and navigate to a different spot. A lot of this jumping
in here. But our reporting is over the top and tells the story. So our reporting totally ties it
all together. And again, been showing that reporting to dealers and they're like, this is
something I haven't seen before. People that want to see it, you see it scrolling down there at the
bottom or clicks marketing. And we also have the QR code. If you just want to click the screen and
just get it going, folks, go there, get yourself a demo set up. I took the demo. It's fast. It's
amazing. It gives you everything you need to know to make you say, let's go ahead and go for it,
my friends. But I love that a lot of says now a lot of his father owns a store. She's this sounds
like a great tool for a certain family ownership. It does sound like a great tool and they need to
be speaking to you all ASAP. We're actually visiting the store. Maybe we can set up a demo

want to be able to solve this problem and be able to take it to
a new level in efficacy in what we do. Folks, for so long, we've let so much kind of slip
through our hands and it's actually tainted the taste that people have when they consider our
product. They consider going through the rigmarole of getting a nicer newer vehicle. This seems like
we really, I guess I would say slim it down, right? Reduce it to the ridiculous. Help the customer
get what they need. Help the dealer get what they want and help everybody be able to actually
make a connection in this world where relationships matter and it's getting harder and harder to earn
and keep the relationships of our ever being blitzed customers. It's so important that you do
have partners that can team up with you. They can do that. As you already heard, if you've been
listening to this show, they got some stuff that is a brewing that you need to get inside of your
cup everybody. So go ahead and book the demo. Let them know that we sent you go to the QR codes
