The Chevy 350 is a popular engine made by Chevrolet. It's a V8 engine, meaning it has eight cylinders, and is known for being powerful and used in many cars.
When someone says '800,000 K', they mean the car has driven 800,000 kilometers. That's a lot of distance for a vehicle, showing it has been used a lot.
The temp gauge shows how hot the engine is running. If it gets too high, it means the engine might be overheating, and you should stop the car to let it cool down.
Coolant is a special liquid that helps keep the engine from getting too hot. If your engine is overheating, checking the coolant level is important to see if you need more.
Overheating happens when the engine gets too hot, which can cause serious problems. This can be due to not enough coolant or other issues with the cooling system.
Catastrophic damage means that the engine has been seriously harmed, usually from overheating. Fixing this kind of damage can be very expensive and time-consuming.
An automatic transmission is a system in a car that changes gears automatically, so you don't have to shift them yourself. This makes driving easier, especially in heavy traffic.
Transmission fluid is like oil for your car's automatic transmission. It keeps the parts inside the transmission cool and helps them work together smoothly.
The cooling system helps keep your car's engine from getting too hot. It uses a special liquid to absorb heat and keep everything running at the right temperature.
Electrolysis happens when electricity flows through the coolant in your car, causing parts to corrode. If not fixed, it can seriously damage your engine and other components.
The pH level measures how acidic or basic a liquid is. In your car's coolant, the right pH level helps prevent rust and damage to the engine. If it's off, it can cause problems.
Misfiring means that the engine isn't working smoothly because one or more parts aren't firing correctly. This can make the car run poorly or even stop working.
The Dodge Grand Caravan is a family minivan that has a lot of space for passengers and cargo. The 2010 version is one of the models made during a time when it was popular for families.
The PCM is another important computer in your car that controls both the engine and the transmission. It helps make sure everything works together smoothly for better performance.
The BCM is a computer in your car that controls things like the lights, windows, and locks. It helps make sure all these features work properly and efficiently.
The ECM is like the car's brain for the engine. It helps control how the engine runs by making adjustments based on information from different sensors. This helps the car run better and cleaner.
Distilled water is very clean water that doesn't have any minerals or impurities in it. It's often used in cars to make sure the coolant works properly without causing problems.
Antifreeze is a liquid that helps keep your car's engine from freezing in winter and from boiling over in summer. It makes sure the engine stays at the right temperature.
The radiator is a part of the car that helps keep the engine cool. It takes hot liquid from the engine and cools it down before sending it back, so the engine doesn't get too hot and break.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a tough SUV that looks a bit like older off-road vehicles. The 2007 version is known for being good at driving off-road and has a unique, boxy shape.
LIVE
Good morning Niagara, you're tuned into car connection where the coffee's hot, the tools
are ready and the talk is always tuned up.
I'm your host, Dyle Motor Mile Jenkins, come to you straight from the car connection workshop
where we mix a little humor, a little know-how and a whole lot of horsepower.
Here it's not just about fixing cars, it's about keeping you rolling, saving you money
and giving you the confidence to understand what's under that hood, from the classics
to the commuters, the weird noises to the what the heck moment we've got you covered.
So grab your cup of joe, whatever your favorite morning breakfast is, through the takeout
window, check your order before you leave and settle your beverage into your cup holder,
make sure that it's in there solid and secure, give Skippy beside you a little nudge if you've
got a co-pilot this morning, give him the pack of 16 grail of crayons and the brown
leaf bag, take some notes for you and keep an eye on the road and keep an eye on the
other guy and join the crew this morning because this is car connection, your Monday through
Saturday morning pit stop for stories, smarts and a few good laughs and I'm Dyle Motor Mile
Jenkins in the driver's seat this morning, locked down in my five point harness and ready
to do some business with you this morning.
Ready?
Excellent.
Excellent.
Yeah, we're going to be talking about a number of things this morning, but the basic topic
is cooling system maintenance or catastrophic damage.
Guess what?
You get to choose.
That's right.
You get to be in your driver's seat and you get to choose which one of those you would
rather have, cooling system maintenance or catastrophic damage.
So I have five things plus one, giving you six as a bonus this morning, number six, things
that you need to know about your vehicle's cooling system, first of all, the number one
most neglected system on every vehicle rolling out there because we're somehow sucked in
to the two words maintenance free is the fizz, the buzzword thing that makes you sit up like
a marmoset and go, what up, dude?
Yeah, I like that term maintenance free.
Owning and operating a motor vehicle of any type size, form or description is never going
to ever, ever, ever, ever times ever divide by ever minus ever equals ever be maintenance
free.
I know it's Monday morning and I'm at it already.
Well, we've got to turn that around because when the salesman's lips are moving, they're
lying.
They're trying to sell you some sheet metal and rubber and that's where you, the consumer
has to become a prosumer.
That's right.
You've got to go from being a consumer falling into the buzzwords that tickle your ears and
look after your itching ears and that's not good.
That means you're getting sucked in.
Yeah, we're not carp fishing here.
So if you want to catch a good friend of mine always said, hey, motor mouth, if you want
to catch a trout, you can't be fishing in a carp pond.
Just saying.
So doing your own homework on your automobile and getting to know as much as you possibly
can is in your favor heading into a brand new year just a few days away, 2026.
You know, the saying is if you've always doing, if you've always doing what you've always
done, you'll always get what you always got.
That's right.
Well, let's jump in quick this morning and say a good morning to our program partners
and thank them for making car connection on radio possible for 31 years.
We renew our contract and we've decided to jump into high tech and let's just go podcasting
where we can broadcast every single day, Monday through Saturday, north, south, east and west.
Forget the circles on the radio map.
We've gotten rid of those and now skies the limit.
We can meet and reach as many people as possible all around the world and help you get a better
understanding about your automobile.
Something else coming up in early in 2026.
Did you join us for the fuel saving tips?
Well, coming up early, very early in 2026, the fuel, the fuel, I'll get it.
The fuel savings challenge, the 30 day fuel savings challenge.
Are you up for it?
Yeah, it's easy.
It's pain.
It's painless, but I'll tell you at the end of the day, the second 30 days, because you
do 30 days and then another 30 days, but I'm not going to give away the whole thing right
just yet.
You're going to have to stay tuned to find out what I've come up with.
The fuel savings challenge, fuel savings challenge, 30 day challenge.
Can you think you can do it?
If you joined us for the back to back episodes on fuel saving tips, I gave you eight plus
an additional six on how you could save money by changing some things about your driving
habits.
Yeah, so if you haven't listened to those two programs, they are available to you through

There I'm going to check today.
See if we've had six more items put up there, including our very own.
After 31 years of car connection on radio, our live call-in automotive program, we're
having our very own coffee mug.
I'm excited about that.
Yeah, it's taken 31 years.
It only took 26 years to get my own bathroom key.
Yeah, that's that's pretty good.
That's not bad.
All right, let's jump in and say thank you to Total Freedom.
Freedom, Darien Center, New York, that's a campus for those that are going through
and struggling through addictions.
So you know who you are.
If you've got someone in your circle, this is where they can find a brand new life.
It's a campus.
It's not a program.
It's open to Canadian and US residents, Total Freedom, Darien Center, New York.
They don't turn anyone down and I can tell you how you can help.
Help with that.
It's simple and it's easy and a whole idea about car connection.
Everything that we do is to reach out to the widows, the orphans, single moms, those
who are going through some very difficult, challenging times.
And yeah, it touches my heart because you know what, I've been there and the
struggle still goes on.
But you know what, when we take our eyes off ourself and reach out to someone else
and give them a hand up, not a handout, things change.
There's Total Freedom, Sydney, Manitoba.
That's with Rick and Robin, the facilitators there.
And let me tell you, they know all about addictions and they have a story to tell.
That's a men only campus.
Your new life awaits you there.
When you purchase merchandise for motor mouth merchandise, car connection, merchandise
proceeds go to back to Total Freedom here in center, New York and Manitoba,
Canada to help those that can't get there to get there.
That's what they do.
They have 20 plus years doing what they do and taking people in where they're at
and helping them to break free from that addiction and get a new life.
So that's an amazing thing that we can all be a part of.
Thank you to Niagara Block, the Greenville family at 5000 Montrose Road,
Niagara Falls, building Canada since 1931.

They can also refer you to contractors that can get the work done that they know
and have those resources handy to help you to make sure that you get the quality
workmanship, quality materials that you deserve to create that backyard oasis.
Certified financial planning professionals, why do we have them with us?
Well, it costs money to buy cars.
It costs money to keep them going.
You ever notice money is, yes, you know, the coin of phrase, money is like
oxygen, you kind of got to have it.
Right on. Yes.
So my brothers from other mothers, certified financial planning professionals,
Tony Miele and Larry teacher combined have 50 years experience as fiduciaries.
They work with IG wealth management.
They don't do any sales gimmicks, but they've offered to you, our loyal car
connection listeners, what we call the hour and a coffee consultation.
That's a discovery meeting.
So if you have questions about investment portfolios, if you've got
investment portfolios with the bank, you really need to sit down and have
that hour and a coffee because they're making money.
You're making a Ziploc bag full of change.
You need to get that money working hard for you, not hard for your money.
If you're into debt up to your eyeballs, you have an estate planning issue.
You have no wills, no powers of attorney, not even any life insurance
or critical illness insurance.
You are in a spiral dive, my friends, but there's a way out.
Get your questions answered.
If somebody's giving you financial advice and they're not standing where
you would like to be, then you should not be listening.
Don't be disrespectful, but turn an ear, smile and say thank you.
And then run like crazy and get that hour and a coffee.
I can tell you, Tony and Larry have been my financial planners for years.
They have helped me out of some really ugly times.
Some very tough rows to home.
That hour and a coffee, no sales, nothing.
Just listening to determine what your goals and dreams are.
And they will, if you're serious, then they'll help you.
But if you're just going to kick the tires, don't bother them.
They don't need any more customers and clients.
They've put this offer out there because they too, like we, want to help
as many people as we can, they do as well.
So get your questions answered by Tony Miele or Larry T.
Trowell Book, that hour and a coffee by phone, by Zoom, in person, at their
office, in the boardroom, at your home, whatever place of comfort works for you.
So no excuses, excuses are useless.

Our faith based nonprofit organization that we tied in with in 2025 Crystal Ridge
Dream Center, serving men and women and children, meals, love and hope and lots of
programs, single mom programs, after school programs for the kids.
They feed out the door Tuesdays and Fridays over 200 people a feed.
It's all, it's pretty much doubled from what I'm being told.
And if you feel in your heart to do something to help, I would really appreciate that.
You know, whether you give $5 a month, $10 a month, do something.
Click on their logo, check them out.
Anything over $25, they're nonprofit, so you'll get a tax receipt.
But in the times that we're in, we need places like Crystal Ridge Dream Center,
providing community support.
It's crucial.
And Crystal Ridge Dream Center shines as a beacon of compassion and transformation.
They're located at 385 Derby Road.
You can find all that information at carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com.
So thank you to all of those program partners for coming alongside.
Encourage me to move forward with podcasting and reaching more and more and more people
and they're backing us.
We can't ask anything more.
We have room for your business and many other businesses because Sky is the limit.
That's the limit.
We can bring all kinds of companies on board with us to come alongside and keep pushing
us, get the train rolling out of the station into 2026.
Well, let's have a swiggy together and get your favorite morning beverage.
Keep an eye on the road if you're driving.
And on three, two, one, this is how we do it.
We have a swiggy of our morning beverage.
It's like being together.
And I count it down on three, two, one.
We have that swiggy.
You ready?
Three, two, one.
That is so good morning.
I'm telling you.
I look forward to that.
The Oz.
That's one of the Oz of life.
All right.
I don't want to digress because we've got a lot of information to get through, not
overload.
It won't be like talking on a fire hydrant or fire.
But almost, almost because this is really all the tips that I've been giving us so
far.
We've got 46 podcasts up.
We, uh, we're on the air with you every single day, Monday through Saturday.
I guess that's not every single day.
Give me Sunday off.
Thank you.
Yeah.
I don't sleep in.
I don't.
I just don't.
I just, you know, get some time and, uh, on the mattress and then get going.
Never miss a thing.
My professor would say.
All right.
To, uh, to kick off this series, cooling system maintenance or catastrophic
damage, yes, you get to choose.
That's right.
You want to be part of the, uh, 500 kilometer club.
Everything I talked to you about Monday through Saturday, if you did every single
one of those things, you would have a vehicle that's heading for 400,000 K right
now going on to reach the title 600,000.
You know, when we had our shop on the Hamilton mountain Jenkins automotive and
and repairs, I had vehicles coming in there.
Um, they were, they were the 3.8 liter Chevy engine.
And that thing was bulletproof.
The first series of that motor 38, the 3800 was a bag of hammers.
That thing was a boating and had more problems than you could shake a stick at.
But when they came out with the 3.8 and that was put in a number of their vehicles,
that, that engine was designed after the Chevy 350 cubic inch engine with the back
two cylinders lopped off because it was a V six.
They balanced it out.
We had vehicles coming into our shop.
You ready for this 300,000.
460,000 top drawer, 800,000 K and still going.
And that one particular vehicle with the 800 K on that.
I don't think that vehicle ever shut off.
It was on the road all day, every day, 800 K.
And you could hear that thing running.
You could put a cup and saucer on there and it wouldn't spill up die.
Of your beverage and keep it warm.
It ran like a Swiss rock watch, a Swiss.
You know, a Swiss watch.
Yeah, it's doable.
And we were seeing that in the service base.
That was back in 2000, you know, from 1996, 90, sorry, 1991, 2000.
Yeah, year 2000, 2000, just into 2001.
That was when I had my I had some physical issues with my back
that I could hardly walk.
It was it was not good.
Life changed at that point.
But you know, it was nothing to see vehicles coming in with
high mileage on that, you know what, they just did regular maintenance.
They just kept up the maintenance.
What did they do?
Roll the pattern and you're going to I'm going to teach you the pattern.
And this is one of them.
This is a serious series right now.
Pulling system maintenance or catastrophic damage you get to choose.
We're going to kick it off with a motor mouth tip this morning.
Keeping an eye on that temperature gauge.
All right, listen up, babies.
Your dashboard ain't just for tunes and for speed.
That temp gauge is a heat warning system.
If it's creeping past halfway and climbing up, it's time to pull
that puppy over and not see how far.
Oh, I wonder how far that'll go.
Maybe tap on the on the instrument cluster a little bit.
I don't know.
Yeah, you think it's really heating up.
Pull it over, let it cool and check your coolant.
Don't try to muscle through.
This is where the this is where the catastrophic damage happens right here.
Don't try to muscle through it.
Engines overheat fast, even in the winter months.
Repairs take a lot longer and cost a lot more money, a lot.
It's not I like it a lot.
No, you won't like it a lot.
Catastrophic damage means internal engine damage.
If it's an automatic transmission, if the engine's running hot,
your transmission's running hot and it's cooking donuts in there, buddy.
It is over.
Yeah, chicken wings, the whole nine yards.
It's frying.
So if your engine's running hot, you have an automatic transmission.
Here's what you have to remember is the lifeblood of that transmission is
transmission fluid that has to be cooled by your engine's cooling system.
Or it goes into Chernobyl meltdown.
So you're not only cooking your engine, you're cooking your transmission
at the same time.
Could that be like surf and turf?
I'm not sure.
But anyways, yeah, the choice is up to you.
Cooling system maintenance or catastrophic damage.
But if you have an automatic, it's twice as much fun and twice as much money.
So I'm here to help you.
Episode one, that's what we're doing today.
It will be, that's the title, something like that.
When we drop it this morning, you will get it at 8 a.m. sharp, sharper than sharp.
Episode 46, series one, episode 46.
Okay, number one, I've got five tips to give you.
Time permitting.
If we can't get through them all, that's okay.
I'll do a part two.
And we'll do that or more for you back to back.
Don't have to go looking too far and I don't want to confuse you because being
dazed and confused and being in the car connection workshop is not a good day.
Means more coffee and around espresso.
Number one, something you need to know about your vehicle's cooling system.
What is electrolysis?
No, it's not a hair removal thing.
Yeah, I mean, if your cooling system is hairy, you have more problems than you
could imagine.
Electrolysis is caused and I'm keeping it super simple for you.
I'm not getting into any scientific mumble jumble because you know what?
I believe in the term kiss, keep it super simple.
I'm trying to help you no matter what age group, size, dimensions, color, IQ.
It doesn't matter.
The more you learn the basic fundamentals about your automobile, the less likely
for you to get ripped off out there in the service department.
Are you hearing me?
And then also making sure I'm going to do a whole program for you on the four
seats that were that was drilled into me in 2000.
Yeah, 2001.
And one, I think I ended up after I closed the shop, I got snatched up by
somebody I know posted my resume and I got a call like 11 o'clock night on a
weekday or it was a weekend.
Yeah, we want you to come and see us.
And I tell you, I worked 80 plus hours a week, but they drilled into me the four
seats because I ended up doing warranty work.
It was part of my position was coding vehicle warranty work and the four
seats had better be covered on the claim or get kicked back.
We're going to cover that because that is a basic fundamental about owning, owning,
not passing it off.
You know, like we're really good at that as Canadians.
I kid you not pass your crap off to somebody else.
That's how I end up most of the time having a PhD on my desk that I never
got to actually sit in beautiful office they built me.
I think I sat in it maybe 20 hours over the course of four years.
Yeah, piled higher deeper.
Everybody else is crap to deal with because they just shove it off to you
because they know you can get it done.
You know, busy people get things done.
So electrolysis is the number one factor.
These are in order, but I will tell you this.
They're all serious.
They all, if ignored, will cause catastrophic damage to your engine and your
automatic transmission.
Period end of story.
It's not a question.
Electrolysis is caused by inadequate pH level in the cooling system or bad
electrical accessory grounds.
And this past summer, I can't tell you the number of vehicles I had in that we
shot videos on that I show you all the electrical, where the problems,
where the problems came down to and how to fix it.
And a lot of times I'm fixing ground wires everywhere in a lot of these videos
this past summer.
Vehicles that weren't running right, misfiring, similar misfires.
One particular van whose name is Vanna White, a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan,
wouldn't even run.
It came down to grounds and also a faulty computer as well.
Yeah, but I didn't just throw a computer in it.
I went digging for gold nuggets, picks and shovels, and discovered really bad
grounds that were so badly corroded.
And in today's world, I'll explain corrosion to you.
Take a dime out of your pocket, if you have any.
That's your 10 cents worth.
If it isn't super, super shiny, it's kind of dull and gray.
That's heavy corrosion on today's vehicles.
That's it.
That's all you need to know.
If they're not shiny, they're dirty.
And that's corrosion.
It causes electrolysis, backfeeding of electrons through the negative cables.
So it's so important that your technician is on the ball checking those things constantly.
I am a ground circuit hog, even on my own vehicles.
I'm looking, and I keep them lubricated.
And if I see something that doesn't quite look right, I undo the ground,
I clean it, and put it back on.
Because we have lots of ground cables running all these electronics, ECMs, PCMs,
BCMs, body control modules that run all the accessories and all the flue for doorfors
that you have to have.
I'm yet to see a vehicle come out with an espresso machine and a donut dispenser.
That's the one I would be seriously interested in.
Absolutely.
And cold beverage canister.
And in fact, I'm fixing that to be part of the 97 Jeep TJ Wrangler Rescue,
as I have a console to go in to the vehicle when we're done.
And we're shooting some more vids today.
Every Monday is three video Monday, where we shoot three new YouTube videos to upload.
So we do two for Tuesday, new ones on Tuesday, two, and a new one on Friday, every single week.
Yeah, the TJ is going to have a cold beverage container in the console between the seats.
Yep, it is.
Number two, so you got the electrolysis, you got that down.
Electrolysis is caused by inadequate pH level in the system for bad electrical accessory grounds.
That's why with antifreeze, if you want to watch a really good video that's had hundreds and
thousands of views on our YouTube channel, is show myself showing yourself how we test
and verify the condition of antifreeze.
And one of the things that we're looking for is the pH balance in the antifreeze.
And I actually testing antifreeze that's brand spanking new on that video that was junk
right off the shelf, did not pass the acid corrosion level and pH balance and alkalinity
well was off the chart junk.
Why? The jugs were already three years old.
Yeah, that's a long life jug of antifreeze.
Long life, 225,000 K long life maintenance free crap with a K tested faulty.
It was already a three year old jug of it.
There was three or four of them.
They didn't pass.
They were already three years down the road.
Like we talked about tires, their date stamp antifreeze is date stamp.
So if you're buying a jug of antifreeze,
yeah, you better check it.
Check it once, check it twice.
Because if you're pulling it off the shelf and it's already two years old,
it's not good for 225,000 K. Sorry, you lost two years worth.
Just like that.
But you're paying top drawer for it.
Not this fella.
Number two, contamination and additive.
Contamination and additives can clog passages and reduce overall heat transfer.
Pure coolant liquid or mixing different types of liquids.
Here you go.
Do it yourself as armchair warrior.
Pure coolant liquid or mixing different types of liquids
will also cause sludging in the system.
And I'm not the message.
I'm the messenger.
I retrieved this information from one of the largest
production companies that I've used for 40 plus years.
That's four decades that I've come to know and trust their product line.
I requested some information and they were so nice to send me a little booklet.
And that's what I'm sharing with you.
Because these are the engineers that create these products that we count on in the service base
to spec out to put on your car.
And in my shop, even when I had the shop on the Hamilton Mountain,
I never put anything in anyone else's vehicle that I would not purchase and put on my own.
That's how I treated every single one of my clients.
They weren't customers.
They were clients.
They were family.
My job was to not let them down and put a piece of crap.
I said crap three times.
So you gotta stop that.
Or coffee.
Beaves.
Can you help me with that?
Thanks, buddy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Why would I sell junk to go on your car and then I take my parts from this shelf over here?
That's wrong.
You know, I would always offer up options for the customer, the client, to say,
I'll take, you know, I don't have all that money.
Much money.
Can I go with this?
I go, you can.
But as long as you know, it doesn't have.
This is the warranty for this and this is the warranty for the premium grade.
Yeah.
So that's how I got this information.
Still going through puberty, I think.
That's interesting.
Note.
So contamination and additives, again, can clog passages and reduce overall heat transfer
pure coolant liquid or mixing different types of liquids will also cause sludging in the system.
Only use a fitty, fitty mix of water and it can't be tap water.
It has to be filtrate water or UV filtered water or distilled water.
You cannot mix antifreeze, 50-50, 50% antifreeze, 50% water from the tap.
Not doable.
And the coolant liquid.
We're going to cut it off there.
We'll do an episode two tomorrow morning because I want you to thoroughly understand
the reason behind your vehicle's cooling system.
Yeah.
It's not you just fix it when steam's coming out.
It's not you just fix it when it's spewing its cookies on the ground.
Yeah.
Or when you feel like it.
Because this is probably going to be a three-part series to get through it and cover all the nuggets.
So bring your picks and shovels because I'll try.
I think I'm going to chop this up into three parts in order to do real justice to it because
there are sidebars I'm sharing with you as you've noticed already
that may help you to fully understand cooling system maintenance or catastrophic damage.
You get to choose.
But when you know the facts, yeah, when the dreams big enough, the facts don't count.
And if your dreams to get the 500,000, the 500,000K club or beyond,
this is how you're going to get there.
Like this year coming, the 07 FJ Cruiser is due for pull the radiator, put a new one in.
And your armchair warriors say, well, why would you do that?
Is something wrong with it?
You're going to have to stick with me to get through all three episodes of cooling system
maintenance or catastrophic damage to learn what I know that you don't know that was
information given to me by engineers designing cooling systems.
A major mega tidbit that saves your vehicle and you will make it to the 600K club.
All right, let's drop it there and we'll see you tomorrow morning for another
motor mouth morning drive.
What do you say?
Going to come and join me?
Tomorrow morning we'll cover inadequate pH level and the pressure cap.
You will the cooling system pressure cap.
What does that mean?
What it is?
What does it mean?
And what should it mean to you?
Are the three things that you will always learn in the five things?
Remember what they are?
Put it in the comments on one of my YouTube videos or send me an email.
What are the five things that I always teach you every single day?
Whether it's a YouTube video, whether it's something on Facebook or Instagram or
in Stevensville on the web.ca or right here in the motor mouth morning drive.
What are the five things I teach you that you've got to know?
You know the four things about the work order, the RO, the repair order that are a must.
And then the five things which will help you to learn and come to know the basic
fundamentals of owning and operating an automobile and mileage doesn't matter.
You can keep that vehicle as long as you want.
We'll see you tomorrow morning.
Thanks for taking me along on your Monday morning drive.
Happy healthy motoring.
We'll see you tomorrow morning at eight.
Motor mouth.
Out.
About this episode
Neglecting your vehicle's cooling system can lead to catastrophic engine damage, and Dyle Motor Mile Jenkins dives deep into this often-overlooked topic. With humor and expertise, he outlines the importance of regular maintenance, warning listeners about the dangers of believing in 'maintenance-free' vehicles. The episode features practical tips on monitoring temperature gauges, understanding electrolysis, and the consequences of mixing coolant types. Jenkins emphasizes the need for proactive care to avoid costly repairs and shares insights from his extensive experience in automotive service.
Your engine doesn't usually fail all at once - it overheats quietly until it's too late.
In Part 1 of our 3 - part Cooling System Series, we break down why cooling system neglect is the #1 cause of catastrophic engine failure, and why so many vehicles are sent to the scrapyard long before their time.
We cover:
1) Why coolant doesn't last forever( and what happens when it's ignored)
2) The most common cooling system failures mechanics see every day
3) How over hearing causes warped heads, blown head gaskets, and cracked blocks
4) Warning signs drivers miss until the damage is already done
5) Why "just topping it up" is dangerous
This episode lays the foundation - what the cooling system really does, how it fails, and why maintenance matters more than people think.
Tomorrow ( Episode 2 ) : We'll dive deeper into components that fail first - radiators, hoses, water pumps, thermostats, and the warning signs you should never ignore.
Wednesday ( Episode 3 ) : We wrap it all up with real - world prevention strategies, service intervals, and how to protect your engine long - term without wasting money.
If you want your vehicle to last - this series is mandatory listening.
