LIVE
Welcome to the Yvonne's podcast. I'm Dan. I'm Nick and I'm Brian. I mean, let's just back. He's back
It's been a while. I don't know why he's not wearing shoes, but
I got a nice rug in here. Yeah, that's even worse now the rocks and my vacuum. It's a clean. No, it does
I was just you know, it's him. He washed his truck for the first time since Moab
Like what a year it's been a year has been just over. Yeah, you don't want to get rid of that red dust
It's so pretty. I know every time I actually try to wash it you find all the crevices you missed the last time
I don't know why the last two years seem like a blur like I've had my truck down for two years
And it seems like I've had it for barely a year
Yeah, we could drive it more. I
Wish I you know, you're correct. Nobody can afford to drive it more. Yeah, that's thing, you know
Yeah, in case money's not an object. I we went and put an extended range tank in the in the
The Sprinter van so that's twice as expensive to fill now
So fun fun fun. Yeah, they make a 30
Something gallon for the Bronco Raptor right now and it actually doesn't drop the tank any lower
But it has a strap on the bottom. I keep thinking about it. The one for mine drops it lower. That's the only reason
That's the only reason
Yeah, 30 gallon tank would be really nice in that
I mean, I think I'd still get the gas mileage I want to get so so now that your trucks clean you think about selling it
I mean, no, I still love it. I didn't I didn't say you didn't love it
I there's plenty of things you both of you are guilty of loving things and then they go out the door for the next thing
Oh, for sure. Yeah, I mean, I think I'm on the fourth car this year already. So yeah, I
Don't know I don't want to get rid of this one for our new listeners Brian works in the industry
So like him going through cars a little different than the rest of us going through cars
This year was also a little different with the things I bought. Yeah, normally
It's just a new car every year and a half, but because I have two or three. It's just cycling through them. Yeah
this year
That search-and-rescue
Montero is so cool. I love it. I can't believe I bought it and I still love it. I
It's so random. So a ton of the search-and-rescue guys were at the overland rally that I was at with Brian Dallas and
Came up and I and I was talk. I was talking to the previous Jeep owner
That one originally too, but that and I was
And I was talking to Dennis and I was talking there was a couple other guys and I was like, oh both my buddies
I said own the Montero. Oh, that's so cool. We're so glad to hear that felt there
Well, and I used I just love that we're using them. Yeah, exactly originally bought both
Thinking that Maverick would want it and then you know Maverick decided he's gonna graduate move across country and congratulations on that
By the way, you raised an excellent son
Good kid and he is in Alabama. Yeah, okay went to Alabama. Okay, not a bad place. No different
But yeah, very different. He's not related to anybody there. So yeah, it's gonna be great. Yeah, I'm very excited for you
You know, this is a weird time for my life just cuz right I've always had your buddies and things and do your buddy moved across the
My buddy moved across country. Yeah, okay, at least it's right now set for end of September
He's supposed to be coming back in this September. So, okay. Yeah, well congratulations again on raising a good kid
You know, we all kind of yeah, I was to say we grew up around him, but I guess he grew up around us, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you guys have been a part of his life a long time now
I think one of the first times when he was a little kid and we were throwing him in the snowbank off the side
Yeah, like that was a long time ago. Wow. Yeah, that's crazy
So it's hard to believe the people like us around him. He grew up well, but well and he grew up
He really really weird. He really did look up to him. Yeah, I agree. So how are you doing Dan? Oh pretty good
Tired tired. Yeah, it comes in waves. Yeah. Yeah
Everybody around the house is healing and doing well slowly healing good still being nurses and doing that and
But that's that's not a bad thing at all. So, you know, don't have to wear the outfit around us, right?
I mean, we understand you're nursing from what that be. I don't know. I'm just saying you don't have to I know it's hot
but
This podcast is not on Vizio for a reason exactly
Voices for radio voices. Maybe it should be. I know. I don't think though. There's there'd be too much proof of that
So I have been looking at like other side careers, you know for retirement
I'm
I don't go down that road because I know I know where I can make good money. I'm just not willing to do it
so
I went up to plain Washington to the Pacific Northwest
Overland rally had never been up north of Leavenworth. Obviously, I think that's the road we came out on
Yeah, that's where Brian
Pal crashed on you know that road. Yeah, but we farther up. Have you been up there?
Yeah, I'm sure so when you come into plane and you come over that last little like peak and then it zooms down
It's beautiful up there. It's absolutely gorgeous
Met a lot of great people. It was it was fun to kind of, you know, hang out in a field with a bunch of people
It was hot, but uh, we had a good time. Um, I suggest, you know, it's not cheap to go
But uh, you know for the day, I suggest if you're kind of into overlanding, it's a great place to go
I mean to other people. There was a lot of great classes
There's a person there that we're gonna Dan doesn't know this yet. We're gonna get her on the podcast, but her and her husband
Circumnavigated the country. They started in Alaska went all the way to South America in a two-door jeep and then shipped it to Alaska
Or to South America, uh, Africa and went all the way to sweet, uh, sweden
And it's a get it's in the Guinness World Book of Records because it trans navigated
somewhere in the middle of
Of central america. There are no roads. Yeah during during gap. Yeah, it's the only it's the first car to ever cross the durian gap
Wow. Oh, yeah, I did not know that was possible. It it is possible. They did it in the 80s
She's amazing. Unfortunately. He has passed but the the stories that we have I had heard that she was literally in the tent next to us
And um, yeah, that it they did in the 80s. Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, I was gonna say I know you can't do that now
I knew their vehicles had
Attempted it in the past. Yeah, it's been it. It holds the Guinness World Book of Records for this
We're gonna have her on the podcast. I'm working out some times right now. Um, and then just as a little
Cheers to it. Uh, last year, uh, the a dv a e v or a d a e v
Took a brand new 2023 wrangler and and kitted it out and made it look like her old jeep
And then she went and did the uh rebel rebel rebel rally. Oh nice. Yeah, okay, so she's really cool
Yeah, she sounds like she'd be an amazing guest. Yeah, but looking forward to that
But it was it was a great time up there. Um, I wish I was heading down to uh, redmond this weekend
Oregon for the uh, the big one but yeah, yeah
I gotta you know, can't be a gone two weekends in a row
I mean, we should just go let's go
I mean
Van gassed up and ready to go so
Well, I'm actually I'm working on some some things like that and I have to say that and this is again as a pseudo owner
Um, incredible country company. Um, I was on the phone. I had some some issues
Uh, and I I get a FaceTime
Meeting request and the guy that answered the phone on the other side was the CEO of story time of storyteller
And so we had a long conversation today and trying to work on some little
Kinks and things like that that I'm working through so kind of that's awesome
It's high touch. I liked it. That's as it should be for something like that. That's great. It is it was really cool
And he's like, no, I'm the CEO and I was like, okay, cool
So and there next time you're gonna talk to I'm gonna go
I'm gonna walk down the office and talk to him. He's gonna call you in 10 minutes
We're gonna figure it out every product with that level of customization
Is gonna have quirks things here and there like it's just part of the job when you build something that custom and one off
So it's really great to see how they handle things
This is just it's not a matter of if but when
And I don't care who it is and we you know
Production vehicles that's you know sell a million a year still have those issues
So it's nice to see that they're taking care of you and they they put that level of high touch. That's really cool
Well, one of the issues I'm having is the awning is is drooping a little bit and it's supposed to for runoff
But right he's like he's like your mechanical, right? He's like, yeah
He's like calling you 17 and 19. He's like stand up there and turn this
Fixed it. Awesome. Yeah, it's like cool. Well, I didn't have to go waste my time going to a dealership things like that
Which they could have fixed so I'm really happy about it. Yeah
Yeah, very awesome. Yeah, let's do our carter
Automotive group tip of the week
So I've been talking to gar up. He's looking at and I've been telling you flaskable
I think last week I was talking about he's been looking at r8
Because uh the v10 market everybody wants the v10s by the way. Oh, I thought he was looking for another like family mobile
It's an r8. Okay. No, no, he's looking at replacing the Corvette something. Yeah
Yeah, we need to have a meeting. I know I think I think you need you're the Chevy guy
He needs to get behind the wheel my car. Oh, okay. All right. Yeah, well, he's been looking at c8
I told him I think that's a better vibe, but uh, he
It's you know, you want to check the box. I get it. He wants the v10 because naturally aspirated v10 just
You know, there are no there's so few v10s. You've got the viper. You got the r8
There's no production v10s right now. You've got the ford triton v10, which doesn't count. Um,
And I think what else is there?
It's kind of it. Oh new v10s many v10s lfa. Well, I mean hurricane
Less i'm saying like they're oh hurricane. There are no there are no new v10s
Hurricane hurricane r8 viper
I feel like there's an obvious one. We're missing that somebody's screaming at the radio like
This but I don't care point is there's not very many. Yeah, I'm sure you said you're right
There's probably some other obvious one. I'm forgetting so it's it's a fun box to check
The viper sounds like crap until you put a bunch of pipes on it and money because it's an old truck engine tune
That works great. Don't be wrong
But everybody loves the sound of this thing and so he's been shopping for him
And right now the prices are holding pretty steady
In fact, this car is I think worth more than we paid for it even with the mileage now, which is crazy to see
That's awesome. If you look at the bad auctions, though, they're like, oh, there are no more of these
There are gonna be any more of these everybody wants to be 10
Especially if they're gonna make anything that
Resembles that new thing they came out with so yeah, nobody seems that excited about it. Oh, yeah
And so he's been looking for one. Anyway, but on his Corvette. He's got wheels
He's got exhaust
He's got a second set of wheels and tires and he was like, hey, should I take this like is it worth just trading it in with it
almost never
Um, you don't get more for excessive
Yeah, you just you just don't like some accessories do make a car more marketable to the general public
But you're almost always better off taking that off your car putting the oem stuff back on and telling it that way
You hit a much broader audience
Maybe brian can speak to this
I've traded in a couple of cars that had accessories on it and they said they're not giving me anything for the accessories
So I said finally i'm going to take it home and take them off and then they go
But we'll give you less so they are paying me for my accessories
So, you know the used car market and trading in with accessories is very very unique
Um, I think jeeps probably are the worst because there's so many little things
You're not going to get any value out of
Light covers and things like that that just look but
We all know that if it has a custom bumper, I'm not going to give you the
$4,000 or whatever you've paid for it
But I know like dan said you can market it to somebody else that it's already done. Yeah, right?
It's kind of like a custom, you know, somebody looking for that might pay a little bit more. So there's a value
um steps on a truck
uh tonneau covers
it's usually not worth you taking it off and trying to resell it or
Put it on your next truck because it just doesn't ever fit the same if it's fitting right on that truck
It's probably going to fit right on. Oh, I was taking it off out of anger. No, I understand
So there is a value there, but if you then go, oh, well, I'm taking all these things off
Well, it's like, okay, so
You know, like when I go to work and somebody says, oh, what's my trade worth?
It's like, okay, are you leaving it the way I'm looking at it or are we changing things back, right and
Tires and wheels happen every day everybody, you know
More people put different tires and wheels on their car
Then the stock ones and they're like, oh, I got the stock ones. Well, okay. Am I getting both sets?
Those are questions you have to ask. Yeah, um, but like in garov's case
He's got a nice car. He's taking good care of it. You know, if it was in stock form
It's probably worse more than if it's got any aftermarket stuff. Exactly interesting, right? And so
Because he's got a c7 grand sport. Yep. It's got a c7 grand sport. Um,
And you know at the end of the day those cars have held a certain specific value
and
Being stock it'll be the most value
The fact that it's not modified and somebody isn't looking at is it gonna have a problem?
No, it just runs and drives and that's what they're gonna be happy about. That's what they're gonna pay the most money for
What about all the track time? Well, the track time is
It's in service. No, no, no, I'm I'm I'm not criticizing him for it. I'm saying does that
Oh, yeah, it's a good question. It's a
It
Every car is different because you can be out on the track and abusing your car and you can be out on the track
And not hurting that car that car was designed to track. So if you're if you're just out there
Having some fun with it and and running it through the motions. You're never gonna hurt it
If you're out there trying to set lap records every day and you know, but you know, there's a great driver
He's not pushing that car hard enough at all that, you know, I wouldn't be afraid to take it in untrade and resell it
Right. So what I'm hearing you saying is garf is a wussy on the track and he's to put his car
Nope. Nope. What I'm saying is he's not out there 16 times a year. He's out there twice every other year
Right. Yeah, there's always this man. He has a family. He has to take care
I know but there's always this thing when you get out to the track day, then you want your next track day
But then the following year you're like, I really want to go and then you don't make time and the next thing
You know, you're you're not out very often. This is a little bit in the weeds
But on a car like that
Does a dealer go and pull the records to see that it's been to the track and things like that
There's no really way to pull and just I didn't know if there's gps records or things like that. So, okay, all right
So that that there can be a duping there if you're the c7 does have one thing that came in the c7 for first for corvettes
Which was the pdr. Well that um, but that only records if you put a you know sd card in it. Oh, yeah, but it does have engine hours
Oh, yeah, that's right. And uh, you know revs blah blah blah
And so somebody could then do the math and go. Oh, well this thing sat at idle forever or
Well, this looks like it's always been cruising speed. I mean, I'm never going to ask for that
Most people that aren't looking for that. They're they just want to look over the condition. I was curious. Yeah
So that's a good it depends on the vehicles that is the answer 100%
Yeah, and your dealer can tell you that or you can you know reach out to somebody, you know post on avance
That's probably the best place. What mod should I keep like people? You'll get some mixed feedback on there
But most time like that. Yeah, like you're saying for his case stock is probably the way to go
In fact, he was looking at our ants. He found one that was supercharged
Really nice one which those supercharger installs on these cars are like 30 grand literally. Yeah, I'm like, yeah, that's great
It's like, but unless you know the previous owner, you know the history of that car
I'm not touching the supercharger. It's been sitting. I was like, you know, how much a wrecking yard ariant engine is
$30,000. Yeah. So that was so yeah
The cost of the install supercharger is the cost of a replacement bone stock engine plus the labor to get it in there
Everything else. So is he running into the situation where I mean the values are so high that it is pricing him out of the
Market kind of thing. No, um
But it's also that the values are where they were which is good
I think they're going to go even a little bit higher
Especially it's time to I bet you in it's a future classic honestly
Absolutely, like 50 years from now a well-optioned r8 is going to be worth a mint especially in those really unique colors
I don't even think it'll be 50 years
Oh, yeah, no, no, it'll be less than that. But I'm saying like 50 years
You'll have one of those like on the lawn at pebble cars
Yeah, for the few that are less the super limited ones not like the smart buyer with his cars
I do that's why I'm saying it was yeah noticing the trend the fact that obviously they're holding their value
You know miles. So yeah, it's hard to find ones that aren't really modified
But he looked at one and I was like
He was like, what about this one? I was like, that's lowered Ivox springs
I was like unless you have that car inspected is like that car is already low. It's got a bunch of low hanging carbon fiber
That's not a car you want lower
It's like
Unless you're sure I'm making it yours, right exactly, but buying them like that is very hard
Yeah, I'm like, this is just not something I'd roll the dice on because it's like
Oh, it needs new suspension and then I linked him to the old one suspension for the car, which is $9,000
I'm like, yeah
The stock suspension is like 16. Yeah, it's like put the old ones on it. You never know the history of a car
Yeah, like I was unless you know the person
Well, we still don't know the history. Well, you know, I've been really good
I've sold most of my cars to somebody I know
Yeah, because even though I use them somebody sees that I just put miles on them
Yeah, I would buy one of your cars with double the miles of somebody else's because I know how I know it gets serviced
I know it's taking care of like there's a problem. Brian's just gonna fix it
I don't know. Did you see his truck the amount of trail striping on it now that he wants to
That one that one's unique. We need to find a two for one deal. I need to get the trail stripes
Like used well and taken care of is fine
Well, if you guys look at it and I don't hide anything right like exactly when I had to come around
I didn't hide that oh, I blew up the motor or oh, I did this or this is how long it took and this is where I replaced it
With right. It wasn't a guess. Yeah, you never had to worry about it
Okay, but like when I did sell it right it it brought more in stock form right stock tires and wheels stock hood
Right, then we proved that I don't know if we actually ever talked about on the show, but that that last corvette or not corvette
Camaro you owned that was low miles and pretty much stock. Yeah
Yeah, I'll tell you oh that you're talking about like a month and a half ago. Yeah that one. Oh that was a crazy
Yeah, my point is right. I forgot about that. Yeah, yeah
So that was one of the four cars I bought this year and and yeah to find a 17 with 190 original miles that thing that's crazy
so cool and
Um, I thought I got a pretty good deal on it. Apparently I got a really really good deal on it
And I only owned it three weeks because of that. Yeah somebody said
Here I need this
Apparently they needed it more than okay
Yeah, you needed the new e-ray and I found a deal on the e-ray that could not
Be beaten and I jumped on both get rid of this that and I wish I would drive it tonight so you could see it
Yeah, I need I need this. I've seen it. I need this. I need to go for a ride in it. Yeah, exactly
Well, it's uh, I hit 7500 miles
So I need to do the transmission filter change
So it's in service department waiting for one to get there. Yeah
Because if you go over you avoid warranty. So I'm at like 74
80 or something they technically gave it a 8000 but I was gonna say
What if you're in the middle of a road?
No, no, it's it's really planned out and it's the car actually alerts you every time you start it as it crosses over 7 000 miles
Yeah, um, so it's it between an email from on star and
You know the car alerting you on the dash every time you start it if anybody missed it
They they really just didn't want to do it and gm pays for the first one. So I don't know why you wouldn't yeah, that's dumb
GM's having a good week
GM's having a great week. Yeah, you want to talk about that? Um, I
Sure. Yeah, um
You know this e-ray
That I bought is the baby version of what you're alluding to right the zr1x. Yeah, and
Um, when the x came out everybody realized what the e-ray was because it wasn't marketed very well
You know, everybody thought oh the electric Corvette and stayed away from it
Well, now that they're realizing that it's all wheel drive and it's fast as hell
You know fast and fun and does everything it needs to do but then you GM went and cranked it up with the zr1x and
Yeah, to watch everything that happened at pike's peak. I've never really paid attention and just watching that car just so we're clear
Uh, and correct me if i'm wrong court. They they took a stock zr1x
Up pike's peak and beat the previous record by 23 to 24 seconds safety. That has been a record for like
Yeah, they added safety. Yeah, so they had any safety requirements and then um, specifically GM said the only thing we did
Was do a fresh alignment and change the tire pressure
Yeah, so they said this is what we want for tire pressure and this is the alignment we want in this car
I mean, how long do we know how long that record was held? I think it was 22
Okay, so if I remember I don't actually know that I know it was a Porsche and I know it's been a long time
It's been at least a few years. That's insane and it's not like we beat it by like
a second or two right
Which would have been a lot which would have been a lot
To come around 23 seconds, but you know, they obviously had this plan
They specifically took one of their best drivers for that car and said this is the car you're going to or this is the driver
That's going to drive this car. Yeah, so that's amazing
American made American made and you know with the
Stripe package on it. Everybody looked really it's it looked so good. It sounded so good. Yeah going up there
I watched the video and I was just jaw dropped the whole time
Because I've driven that road, I don't know three or four times now
And anytime I watch any cargo that's actually racing. I'm like, that's insane. How fast they're going
You know, you look stuff on camera. It never looks as fast but having driven it and knowing how fast they're going
I'm like, I would be pooping my pants at every corner going up that hill
Yeah, and then watching them take that that taking the turns in that car was more impressive than watching it accelerate
Because holy crap talk about corner speed and downforce
When you could hear sometimes there was a four-wheel drift going on. It was just going it didn't care. No, it was insane
That's going to be a hard one to beat ever. I was gonna say I
I think I see the only people I see breaking it is Chevy
I don't know that's anybody else gonna push that car that hard that it'd just be the perfect scenario
I mean if you do you're within what another second, right? It's not like it's gonna be 23 seconds
The only thing is there is there's going to be some type of update to the zero whack or something that will
Oh, yeah, they're not that's the core of it. There's Chevy has said multiple times. They're not done with the Corvette
Like and then they drop the gsx
The grand sport x which is coming. It's not shipped yet, but that's going to be
I think for if you're looking for the ultimate performance road car
Without going the 01 bank account route
You're going to be almost that's cars going to be impossible to touch
Holy crap, what an epic
Exactly the same as my car, right with slightly different changes that
It'll be interesting to see how that one drives in comparison to mine
A little bit more low end torque a little bit more battery
Yep
You know, I I don't know that I need any more in my car
But if I did I think it's a twin turbo kit because up top is where right because it stops using the electric front
That would be all you need
Need Amelia Hartford do that. She's twin turbo. She's twin turbo regular c8. Yeah, and then they've played around with the zio 6
That's what I wanted 06 x
I know yeah, but that's what I want because the flat plane crank v8. That's all I want is the sound
Why don't make that no, they don't yeah, I was currently they don't make that currently
Who knows? Yeah, I mean it's still cool america 250 years. You know very american thing to do
Very american year
Absolutely. Yeah
Controversial topic. I'm not going to go into the politics at all the show that
Travis Pastrana put on at the white house. Mm-hmm. I don't care what you think about the politics
Do not care at all like if I one
Amazing show the people you had on that McGrath car Michael Deegan like he had the if you are
over 30
That is like the most incredible lineup of your entire life
Like these people are the icons of racing
I'm going to tell you to watch two things one go find Travis Pastrana's instagram or tiktok
And look watch the video of him calling all these people
And then just watch the latest vision the latest nitro circus video
Because it pays homage to all of them when he's standing there and then he's talking about the goat the general the
Him calling deegan was my favorite thing on the planet this year because they're rivals
Watching all those guys. So yeah, I know that it's polarizing, but
It was awesome to see all of those guys and I'm not even a huge motocross guy but to see everybody there together
Yeah, and so I grew up watching that stuff and I have met travis. I'm never going to say I know travis
He's not a friend. I have met him at
Many stages of his life in his career because I've been following
Motorcycles so long, but I knew I ran the first time I met him
I think I was I was still a teenager
And he was still racing just motocross
I think supercross actually and then I met him
When he started doing the stunt stuff
Just only that and then I met him when he started doing rally
and I've
Met him through all these various stages
I don't and I have never met anybody else as nice
And honest and engaging as travis was period
I've met mcgrath. I've met car michael. I've met all these guys and they've all been nice guys
Pastrana is the most standout stand-up person. I've ever met as a celebrity
period in any in any realm sports music acting whatever pastrana is the standout like
I don't think you could do better without having a family member
Be your idol than to have your kids or you look up to someone like travis pastrana
If you've heard interviews about travis and all the crazy stuff he's done
If you there's a several going around and he has a consistent answer that he's had for several years
So you ask him what is the most amazing thing you've ever done? What's the best stunt you've ever pulled?
You know what he says every time
kids marrying his wife
Not just being a father
It's marrying his wife
His proudest achievement in his life is being a husband and a father
Like and as for now and you don't know somebody beyond what they put on the interviews, but I mean
We know ryan and well his co-driver
She has nothing but nice things to say about him and even when the cameras and then recording is off
She still has nothing but nice things to say about him. So it was alex
Yeah, so it was alex just me and her husband who was ken blocks co-driver like I'm just saying like
Just get the politics out of it and look at what a great person he is and all the stuff he does the charity work
He does the way he interacts with his fans
like the dude has a heart of gold and
Like I said through every stage in his life
He has been consistently that awesome person that I've met who's always had time for his fans
He's always had real conversations
He's never blown anybody off that I've seen and you know, I've been in the sidelines of the pits
Those pit passes watching he's never rolling his eyes getting oh great another person
I have seen that from plenty of riders or just burn out
They've been at the track all day and now they got a hundred fans want to talk to him like I get it
He's never been that guy
So I'm just saying like watch his stuff. He's worth supporting. It was super cool to see what an amazing event
The build-up is better than the actual I mean what their data is neat
But what those guys did on the on the white house lawn was is nothing compared to what they're capable of doing on motorcycles
Right, but watching them all stand there
With different sponsorships different bikes in in matching gear talking to each other
And watching the goat and the general pay homage to pastrana while pastrana is paying homage to them was really cool
Yeah, so I'm just saying like even if you don't like it. It's still worth checking out. They're still worth following
I thought it was a really cool event. It was a good proud america kind of thing
Um, yeah, you can hate the administration all you want, but I don't I will not hate on them
Yeah, they put on a really good local show too
It took my nephew to and I was actually super surprised. It wasn't super long. It wasn't very much money. They didn't yeah
Nitro circus. Yeah, they're just having fun. It was worth every minute of it. Yeah, they're awesome
Put on a little show and and I was just I was blown away with what they were doing and how they could do it
Yeah, that was our childhood watching though. I mean we got to see it in magazines and stuff like that
You probably were a little closer to it
Yeah, I was super lucky to be in that at the time when I think was truly at its peak
Because like the stunt stuff was kind of emerging at that time. It was just racing and then it the whole stunt thing
was kind of an outcast thing and then travis
Purely travis made it mainstream and family acceptable
Because it kind of there was a bad rap that went with it for a little while. It was the bad boys of motocross
Well deacon and and metal militia. I think I first got a
Vision of who travis was rana was when he won those of the x games in san francisco and sent the bike into the bay
And and it wasn't that he won the event
It was the fact that he sent a motorcycle full of gasoline into the into the bay
And it was like he had committed the ultimate sin which again
I don't think he pollutes the water a tenth of what what but the funny thing was it was an empty bike
Yeah, he ran an empty and they launched it. Yeah, yeah, but I remember that making that the other way to launched, you know
death machine into
into the bay
So, yeah, we we asked last year last week to the to all of our listeners
What was one mod that they've done to their cars that they regret it?
Do you have a mod that you regret putting on your car or you didn't like anyone any one of your cars?
Um, well, we just talked about chasing power. There's a there's a fine line
Oh, yeah, and the first
Power hump is usually the one that you would be most happy with because stock. They're never
What you want, but that next level
Affordability and still reliability is always the one. I wish I would have never crossed again. Oh, okay every time I do it
Fair enough. It's a good answer
Yep, every month. I really want that power commander for my truck. I'm wanting it more and
Oh the tune. Yeah. Oh, I don't need it. No, no, I don't drive my truck that much. I don't need it
I but then it's kind of fun though
I don't I think it's the part that it's sitting in the driveway a lot right now because I mean
Kate's not at home anymore. She's okay. Let me put that back
Kate cut a new job and so she works five days a week away from the house now
And I'm there by myself and I think I'm looking at my toys going
What do I need to do to these and I'm and I'm not touching the monkey. I'm definitely not touching the ktm
I've told myself I'm not
Besides putting the bash guard on it. I'm not touching the bike because I don't need to
I put a ton of money into the c the crf and I loved it but
But I'm keep looking around going. Okay. What could I do to the truck and I've looked at exhaust
I'd look at the tunes I I've looked at all the doing the new intercooler piping and things like that
But you could just leave it alone and you can mod mine for me. Good. Good. Yeah, I get a couple things
I won't Brian. I can't afford to moan mod mine. Why am I gonna mod yours?
But like even the groms right the first one I built it was perfect and the next one I built
I tried to outdo it and I it while I like it. It's just been you know a little bit of a headache and
Yeah, it finally got figured out but you know, it's uh
It's that second. It's the next level. It's level one's fine level one is where you need to stay
Mechanical sympathy, that's the term you need to have mechanical sympathy for your vehicles all the time
That means like when you're out doing off-road stuff
It may sound fun to take like that to get into that really gnarly stuff that is pushing your vehicle
That is part of the fun, but there is a point where you go. Nope
Because I gotta drive this home. Well, not only that hey the fun's over when I'm stuck on the trail
True and I don't mean like don't go take some chances like just just keep it in mind
Same thing when you're adding power. I've done the same mistake all the time for I've added too much power and broken stuff
I don't do it anymore, but I have
um, I in fact even even with
The 06 and the GTR
Like I didn't I was like I'm gonna keep it really mild and I
Technically did like on the 06 I did an intake and an exhaust intake extra took away power. I noticed it
I got rid of it
um
I had the who's that I can't remember the name of the company
But like if I had a proper tune on it, it wouldn't have I just didn't want to tune it because
I don't need to tune a 650 horsepower Corvette like it would have been fun
Don't be wrong
But like I didn't need it and so I was like, okay
I'm that was a mistake did the same thing on the the GTR adding the
The intakes on that with the mid-pipe actually caused a rich run condition
Which was terrible decreased drivability
like
Half the fun like if I had something old and disposable I might take a different approach
Like if I was doing a custom car project I can go kind of nuts
But if it's your
Well, I mean you started this asked me if I'm ready to sell the truck
I think the reason I'm not is because I don't want to mod it if you really think about it
I've added some lights to the front
I've added the under lights and I've added the beadlock rings that are technically a GM accessory other than that it is stock
Yeah, I have not added one other thing to that. Yeah, yeah, and put in the winch and all that too
Yeah, that was all from the factory. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. I think I think I'm I'm project list right now
Oh, like the van
The van is wrapping up like I've got all the van stuff done
And I've got a few things there and I'm on you can come out organize my garage. It's been a year
I still haven't done that. That's what I need to do. Obviously I got all kinds of projects
Yeah, yeah all my projects kind of got put on hold is my work life balance took a little bit of a dive
I'm getting back to it. But man, I've just got so many unfinished projects here
I wish I had time to do them. Yeah, we actually did a big
push, you know with everybody coming from out of state for graduation party and stuff and
This is the most organized we've been
You know since we moved in now that the remodel parts down and we're just enjoying it
So we weren't putting things away and just using things as we need it
But I actually busted out some boxes and got through them and I'm kind of excited to finish it now and actually have a shop
That's not just full of stuff. Oh because that the larger garage you can't put anything in right now
Currently I couldn't put you know, I got racks and boxes because we just never got went through it
Sometimes I just need to figure out if I'm keeping it or not keeping it
Well your transitions from the house to the to the smaller the house you rented. I mean you you'll get through it
Yeah, yeah, it's a lot. I don't think you're going anywhere. No, no, there's nowhere to go
So I enjoy every bit of where we're at right now. Good
Well say one mod. I've never regretted s tech on this thing
I
Mean ever regretted that on any of the no you know one mod I regret not putting on
yeah
Every time I come out in this shop and I this car is pretty much spotless and perfect and I I love
Sean and I have talked about to that length. I love the amount of miles we put on this car
That's your job as passenger princess to make this thing look pretty
Not just that but I mean like if you look at it now and when we bought it
And I think it looks better now than when we bought it because we added the black on the roof
Which we both really like. Yeah, but there's not a there's no rock chips, which
I have a rare super rare another place the fact that it's been modified
In really light ways
Just and it works better now. Yeah, like I like it looks better with the tint on it because it darkens the car like there's there's
Nobody can look at this until we've driven it over 10,000 miles
Yeah, and all just on epic drives the the trailer was
That was a great investment
It was way too expensive
But it was worth it for us because you know trailing it down to the good stuff
No, just the lobby, you know
Hang on an i5
I don't know if it was you or shana that said it when you said you bought a trailer and no
We all I supported that not that I had any
Vote in it but like you said and maybe it was shana that said she goes
I don't want to put a bunch of miles on this car that I'm not going to enjoy
Like driving it somewhere to drive it like that's not fun
Yeah, it's a luxury. We are very well aware of the luxury we have to be able to do that
But that has made
The memories of the car so much better because you don't have those in between times of like well
We drove down i5 for 16 hours then took a left
To go to joshua tree or to go to arizona or whatever we have the we drove it to
Grants pass where her and uncle live unloaded the car and then spent a week in the car on nothing
But epic back roads like the entire week was just back road
It was exhausting because we were like driving eight tenths the whole time
But it was awesome
And so and I love that we can use it and abuse it
And yet it's not really abused like you can get stuck behind it to just you know stuck behind trucks hit gravel
Car looks perfect
Thanks. It definitely looks good. Yeah should do the windshield
No, not on this. In fact, it has one chip on the passenger side. I need to get fixed
It's the one thing we didn't do and I wish we would have I didn't at the time because
Windshield coatings work really well except when you drive a car all the time
They're great like you'd think like oh the bronco is perfect because everything it's the windshield on it because it's a
you know no aerodynamics
But uh, it's not because if you use your windshield wipers all the time all the sand and gravel
Well, it works like sandpaper on that stuff because it's not glass
On a car like this where it almost never sees rain
um, just because of the times we drive it we've driven it in the rain plenty of times, but
You it so rarely uses the wipers. It would be really effective. In fact, it's the one thing
I will definitely do immediately again if we were
That was the only thing I was thinking like being behind a car being so low that you're gonna take something from
Yeah, and I will the windshield acts as downforce. Yeah like a lot of downforce on these cars
CA they are whatever I know we've talked about it before and I've talked about it
But I'm dealing with it right now
If you're getting rock chips in your windshield get them fixed as soon as possible because
I put two windshields in the truck and it's now costing me insurance wise like oh, yeah
Big time and I did not realize that and again
I had been my own kind of geico insurance agent
But I was trying to reach out to get a good one talking to judy
Yeah, and judy was trying to help me and she's like look this you're dinged even though I didn't know I was dinged but
One of those was my fault when I
Took a scotch break to the windshield. I stopped carrying it, but I should go back to it
Um, there's the renex windshield repair kit. Yeah, you can find them anywhere. They're absolutely the best
Yeah, they were great. Um, you need to be in the sun which I've learned with the product because the uv activated
Yeah, um, you know, which is opposite because most of the times you don't want the windshield hot
But that stuff soaks in so well. I've almost had them disappear
And it's worked
So so well for me for even just as a use car manager to fill them and not have to pay somebody
It's the best one. Nice. But
They're even though you can try to get away with using it two or three times
It's really just just buy another one if they work the best when you fresh open it. Yep, exactly
Yeah, we've had that as a previous tip on the show that everybody should have a glass repair kit in their car
Because it's the difference between a windshield or not often
Especially when you're on a road trip because it you know, like you said pull over in the sun and put it on
It only takes a couple of minutes that specific one. I don't know why that one
I've not had luck with the other ones but the renex one. I've actually worked
Well, every time I've used it. Good to know. Yeah. Yeah
Hey, I was telling him I was I was at a a shop for an oil change
And I pulled in there and somebody goes, oh, you're you got you're one of the trucks in the magazine. Oh
Oh, I that magazine came out. I I wanted to cry. thank Carl
By the way, you know, I was so intimidated, you know when Carl said do you have some pictures we can use those pictures are amazing
and I was just I he spent so much time sitting with me and
Uploading them and you know, I I don't use that stuff
He he taught me some things about getting new sd cards because I had an sd card for like a year in my camera
And he's like, yeah, we you should probably not do that
You should get a new one every time you take photos for something specific
He's like, you could have lost all these
But he uploaded them all
Picked out, you know, whatever ones he wanted and I I think he picked out the the ones I would have picked anyways, so
It looked great. Yeah. Yeah, I think I have it. It's this episode
The other reason I bring it up is the new issue just dropped
Yes, this week. So the orange career gt on the cover. Yeah, yeah
So before we move on there. Avant has plenty of glass partners
If you were in the need for glass work, uh, I know novice and redmond is a glass partner for us
So to keep that in mind that that discount comes in handy big time
They do great work a lot of people talk about them on the the facebook page
Yeah, yeah
It's hard to think it's been a year since we went but you know that it brought it all back up like we were there yesterday
Yeah, makes me miss it
This is the reason this is the one I have on the stand because I've reached over and flipped through it
Just a look at the pictures. I was just talking to Sean. I think we're going to go back to moab
Just the two of us for a getaway when she's feeling up to it
I think it'll be like in october or something kind of my birthday and she'll finally be able to travel again
So I think we're going to just dip down there for a little
He's going to leave us for our birthdays too. Got it. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah
It's I mean he he he doesn't see the month as ours. He sees it as his it's his. Yeah, well, which I think we kind of all do
But I will share it a plan right now is to take my parents and Kate down to moab
April probably because I mean I I'm literally going I'm not a photographer, but I'm going for one shot
I want that van on Delman louis point
I just that's my that's where where we got to the picture of all four of us
I want to that's where I really want to take Kate
And she's not a big off-roader. She's like, I'll just go to the spa and I was like, I'm not driving you to moab
So you can go to the spa 112
That's not hard to get she doesn't know because I talk we talk about all this stuff
And we talk and then she sees photos of me driving up hell's gate and she's like, I'm not doing that
I'm like, you don't have to no problem. Also the van's never going there. So don't worry. That's not going to be a problem
It would probably get farther than you think but I still be a terrible idea. I agree. But that's that's the dream
I want to take my parents there and show them and you're gonna show them where you
Hung out for two and a half hours waiting for us longer than that
Tell you, you know
Um
I love all of you, but that was one of the best bonding experiences
I've had with one of our friends is sitting on the desert just laughing and
You know, it was a lot of fun. You guys made of a great situation out of what could have been a horrible
That's why it's fun to go with you guys. I mean, that was the point
I was like, I mean him and I are have been good friends for a long time
But just to be able to be not we weren't forced but to be forced to be in the desert for four hours
Waiting for you guys to desperately try to get back to us. Like, you know, we had a great time
Yeah, checking under rocks for scorpions. Shout out to erin and ryan the owners of mob garage coe
birds finder diner and
Bird donuts down there. So they own the three best places in town. Literally the reviews prove it
It's not even my opinion at this point. Uh, by the time this comes out. She will probably be a mother. Oh, congratulations
So congrats to them. Um, I yeah, I can't wait to meet the little one. So new glasses at the
Yeah, new glasses at birdies
Okay, great
Yeah, okay, fair enough. Well, you'll understand if you go to birdies finder diner about the glasses but and ask
Yeah, ask about the glasses at birdies finder diner. Yeah. Well, I mean, I'm glad to hear you guys are gonna go back and
Once uh, shawna's feeling better and that's a tentative plan. We'll see. Yeah, but that's that's kind of that's a special place for you guys
Is you know, so awesome. Very special place for us
I we we we've talked about it, but we're gonna go back to mccall, right? We're gonna take the monkey
I think we need to go to mccall. It's just close enough, but just far enough away. We just need to do it
That's a that's a much easier to get to place too. Yeah, it's an easy one-day drive for us
Are we're gonna take the trucks and the bikes though? Yes. Okay. Why not?
He just said
I
Desperately and I'll tell you why I want to take the trucks up to that that that fire lookout where we met that old guy that was up there
Oh, yeah, I want to be that's because I we have that picture of all of us up there with the bikes
I want a picture up there with the trucks. Yeah, I got a picture up there with just the old gen 2 raptor
Yeah, we yeah
So I'll take the bronco, but yeah
And this time maybe we won't go in the middle of the road and sit and listen to wolves kill animals
But other than that, that was awesome. Yeah, you are fine. It's funny. You were in the truck. I know I got back in the truck
It's like, oh, I'm on the menu. I have a real camera now. So we get really good night photos there
Yes, you do. Yeah, I'm so glad of that. You know
We just have to sit here for 10 minutes while my phone exposes everything. Cool. Great. No problem. Whatever. Yeah. Yeah
Yeah, if you don't know we brian took you took us you were doing somewhat nightics
But what it was was yeah, I was I started getting into night photos and asked to to go and yeah
I was like, oh, I'll just take you. We'll go. So we all three went and that's great
We were on the north end of the lake in the middle of the darkness and he was doing this exposure thing
And we heard what could best be described is a pack of wolves hunting
Something they were down something else. Yeah, no and it was it was closer than I was feeling comfortable
But we were parked on the middle of a bridge. So they were not gonna
I'm not come it was pitch black. It was gorgeous. It was just that was the only thing we heard besides you going
Okay, we just gotta sit here for a minute
Yeah, the sound of wolves hunting is it's scary. Yeah. Yeah, those things mean business
Yeah, especially when you realize you're like that is not coyotes. No
And what is dying is dying painfully
Nature is metal as they say
No, I want to take the trucks back. I think that's a quick. That's not a good after driving to moab
McCall seems like a quick trip to me. McCall's like we could go on thursday and come home sunday
You'd be ready for work on monday morning. I think I think as I as I spend more time in my garage
I'm starting to try to clean some stuff up and I keep looking at the monkey and realizing it hasn't been written
I I need an adventure for that. So yeah, it's calling me. Are you gonna put it back on the street tires?
Well, no, I was going to but I'm gonna put because I don't have another
I got rid of the grom so I that would be the only if I could take your new bike with us. I mean, yeah, but
That's not it's fine
You're funny. Um, I knew that was gonna lose us by miles. I know I could actually leave you
Instead of running me off a cliff. Yeah, well that was your own fault. See at the cafe. I didn't run you off a cliff
Up a cliff. Yeah, so it's different. So
Yeah, and I want to go have I want to go have chicken strips in uh, what was that town?
I don't know place with the harmonica fest
I also when we stop it after the bridge there, I want to go take off my clothes and get in the water because it was too
You could keep your clothes on it'd be fine. Well, you know, I'm saying like just get in the water water. Yeah
That was another really good trip that we need to duplicate. Yeah. Yeah, it's fun. So
I I hope people listen to this always get inspired. That's all I really want go drive
There's so many places to go see
We have we have technically inspired a rally. We yeah a couple more than a couple. Well, you have I did the shinook
Pass up over and then took 12 through white pass
On sunday on father's day stopped at some lake spots back to it was it was so much fun
And you know, that's just a day
So if you can get out and go and enjoy things in a day, you know, it's an all day adventure
But you don't have to go all the way to moab you could do lots of things right here
That just reminded me of something I'm going to do we talked about last year
I want to go park at the bottom of Mount Rainier and take the monkeys up. I think that oh, yeah
Oh, for sure
Easy ride and that'd be fun. Just come to my house and we'll load them all in the trailer and let's go
Yeah, because I don't want to ride from your house. No to there because that road without the green water
I won't I will not get on the monkeys there. You wouldn't it's no because it's they're not fast enough
They are because it's only like 50 miles an hour there and there's a couple spots to go down to 35
But it's just everybody's I've tried it. I I
Just feel like I'm in the way. I feel like I'm in the way and also
Um, well, I'm now that there's gas in green water
It'd be a little bit easier because you know when we're flat out in those bikes
They do suck down the gasoline. Yeah, right there at dream water. I just think it's easier. Yeah in my mind
But yeah, we'll figure it out. Got any destinations on in your mind?
Um, got a trip plan. He's going to Alabama. Let's be honest. I would love to actually I've never been
I'm so jealous that he's there. Um, we're gonna go do the t-tons. I have a friend
Oh fantastic. Yeah, um
Do the the loop through jackson t-tons yellowstone and back on yeah, it's just really just go yellowstone right to t-tons
Yeah, I did I did that in reverse
And we we may even do it reverse but um with maverick when he was 13
Not knowing what we were doing. We're supposed to just go see old faithful and it turned out to be
You know an amazing little loop. So I assume the vet
Probably not. Oh, no, um
Determined on or it's undetermined if it's two people five people eight people, you know, it's an open call at the moment
So, um, I don't think the vet will be making the trip even though I did it in the camera last time
I got cool pictures. It'll just be we go to see that I got a another co-worker that's actually going to climb the t-tons
In like two weeks, maybe three weeks
Um, so I'm just excited to see what what he sees while he's there
And then when I go and try to just enjoy that side of it, um, you know and get some pictures and stuff
So you're gonna come in through a t-ton pass then or you come in through alpine. Um, I'm either going to
Specifically get into jackson and then come right up or I'm going to go into yellowstone first
But yeah, all three of those are the destination. Yeah, because they're so close
That's one of my favorite pictures I have is when you and I and shana drove down there
And we went through yellowstone and we stopped and the three of us are just staring up at the t-tons there
That's amazing. Yeah, yeah, beautiful country not that far but is far enough to do, you know
Hopefully like a three maybe four day trip
Well, if you take the truck you can go off-road in two a little bit that is
Also possible. Yeah, there's a lot out there to see that's for sure. There's so much to explore around jackson
Yeah, yeah, and great food too. Well, you've only said to you know go in the million dollar
You know cowboy bar a thousand times in the last time I was there at a 13 year old
He was not wanting to get out of the car. So it's
It's not worth it. Yes. No, it is worth it to go and see it and and and if you get the great parking spot
I mean and have I always tell people go have a beer there like you don't have to eat
But like yeah, no you experience it the fact in the story and get yourself a sweatshirt because you will wear it
All the time social media has it is there's a pizza place that overlooks the t-tons on the top side of jackson
That I really want to try. I know. Oh, yeah, so the top of the lift
Um, no, no, it's in. Oh, that's the wall. See jackson. Yeah, it's in jackson hole
But it they're like looking at the map at least it's the last road that looks out towards the t-tons
And their back deck looks like it'd be a great spot, but he's right go take the gondola up to the top and sit up there
We had ice cream. It was awesome. Yeah, just taking the gondola top is 100 worth. It's not cheap, but it's worth it
Didn't even think about I want I still want to do ours here at crystal
Yeah, oh that is a lot of the rainier gondola. That's a lot of fun. Yeah, it's pretty we should do that sometime
On the list of things that I need to do. Let me take the grumps up. We took lola
Well, that would be we have a gondola lola photo. That's yeah. Yes. It's that is beautiful because
You get to see everything as you're going up
But the minute you get to the top is when you see rainier. Oh nice. So it's it's really pretty
Yeah, it looks pretty on on their website and stuff and it right now
I think it's next week maybe that they open more hours because they're they were limited for the last like three weeks
I tell people take get the earliest get up there as you can because when the restaurant opens it becomes very
It's a zoo up there. But if you're there when they open, it's ready to go. Nice. So yeah, it's good food
Yeah, this peak season for tourists and it it gets kind of annoying and crowded. Yeah, so but
Yeah, I mean it's tourist town, but there's a lot of fun stuff there, too
You can catch the Wild West show. It's actually really fun to watch. It'll oh and Jackson. Yes
Yeah, it'll bring you back to your childhood to watch sort of the Wild West show in the street
It's pretty cool. You're like, you know a shootout thing which is it's just fun and the center square with all the antlers
That's yeah, yeah, so I'm just looking
It's like where to stay because Jackson's about the only place to stay and it's like
Quite a bit of money to stay there. You can stay in alpine. This is an hour south. Yeah, um other hotels there
Uh, there is a new hotel there. Oh cool. And there is a lot of rentals there
Which can if you're gonna do any kind of even short stay rentals
Yeah, uh, there's a bunch there as well. So you've got alpine. You've got hobart. No, is that what it is?
I think hoback. Yeah, something like that. I've been playing on the map. Um, yeah, Jackson though is not cheap
No, no, no, no, no. There's nothing cheap in Jackson
And then uh, alcoholic sloshies. Yeah at the hoback market. They have the sloshy
Welcome to Wyoming where they're considered a sealed container because they put tape over the top of it. Nice. So it's now sealed
I love you Wyoming
Yeah, but it's like one of those will knock you on your ass
But it's fantastic to do when you float down the snake river. It will not if you're already on your ass floating though
So that's the difference. Yes. Yeah, so you go
Get your walmart
64 ounce. Yep
In so double insulated wall cup
You fill it with the sloshies and you go to the river you can go
You go to alpine and there's a little fishing store there a little tiny one
They do fly to fly shop, but they do rentals for kayaks paddleboards. Whatever you want. Nice. Yeah, that's what's his name shop
Yep, and then you can they'll drop you off at the river launch in and you just float back to the store
It's amazing
And it's like the most ultimate perfect lazy river float and you will laugh the whole time and there are hot springs along there
Yes, stop. Oh, it's a lot of fun. So yeah, you guys might have to show me on the map for this
No, I can make it a day because it's just alpine
It's just 30 miles south of jackson and you have to go down the snake river. So yeah, yeah, I know right on the
Wyoming, uh, Idaho border. Yeah, nice. Yeah
May make staying there an extra day easier. Yeah. Oh, it's you'll never eat
There's no lack of things to do around there
No, it's it's just the sheer of like should I stay an extra day or should I just get back home?
Go back to work. No, right stay. Yeah, don't you know about that? Uh, not a bad bath to be out
An Airbnb there. Yes, I do. Yeah, there you go
I hope one now you can there you go
You can get your deal on it because it's a business
But I can get you in line with with highway 20 open back up last weekend
I will definitely do that again and I will do that in the vet very shortly
Will not be a couple of weeks. No, if I've done highway 20 since
It is absolutely with you
Yeah, I think last time was up there was well, no, I was up there with Shawna. Yeah, you had to have been
Yeah, I'm saying that I think that's one of the last times I was up there. So it's it's on the top of my list like, um
The badlands where it just seems so unreal and epic and I will I would go there every weekend if I could
Have you been to custer state park?
Where's it at not right by mount rushmore? No
One of the most incredible drives you can do is custer state park
It's like the going to the sun highway though
That if you're not there like it's sunrise, but nobody else is there
It is miserable because you were just stuck in traffic with people who have never driven a car before
Never seen a road before and don't have any idea they're the only people that exist
Like they they think they're the only person in the world. So they're going like 20 under
But if you get there at sunrise
Seriously, one of the most incredible places you will ever see you can't go fast on it. It is insanely twisty. There's animals everywhere
But it's just stunning. You won't want to be in a hurry. You'll just want it to yourself kind of thing
And it's uh, yeah, if you're but if you're at badlands, you're not that far away and it's
It's really slept on because it's a state park a lot of people don't don't bring it up
But once you see the photos of custer state park and the highway it'd be like, holy crap. How did I miss this?
It's beautiful
Kate wants to go to painted hills in oregon. Oh, yeah
We have that because she wants to go dig rocks and stuff like that. There's where is it at? It's
northeastern corner of oregon
I think so
The reason I bring it up is you're sure right cats was just there. So yeah, yeah, I think
I've never been there
Sounds like we need to drive. Yeah, but we need we need monkey time. That's what we need. So
All right listeners, I'm willing to have you come over and drive anytime you want
Okay, or I'll bring my bike up here and we can cruise around
I'm going to go down there because you're closer to brand year in places
I drive mine like once a week now
I love being where I'm at because I'm just far enough out of the main city
But I can run right into the city and everything's 35 miles an hour
Yeah, I'm trying to convince my wife that'd be a good place to live
We can get you down there. I'm more affordable. Yeah. Well, we just we just got our
lease renewal and I'm like
Well, thanks for coming in as always, you know, yeah come by anytime man. Yeah, I love having people here
Yeah, well for this episode of the advance podcast as always, I'm nick and I'm dan and don't just get there. Enjoy the drive
About this episode
Brian Elich returns to the show to discuss his rapid rotation of vehicles, including his search-and-rescue Mitsubishi Montero. The crew shares highlights from the Pacific Northwest Overland Rally, teasing an upcoming guest who drove a Jeep across the Darien Gap in the 1980s. They also dive into the logistics of extended-range fuel tanks, the customer service experience of high-end overland vans, and the market for naturally aspirated V10 engines like the Audi R8. Finally, they offer crucial advice on whether to strip aftermarket parts before trading in a modified car.
Our good friend Brian Elich is back on the show, and we’re catching up the only way we know how—talking cars and bad financial decisions. This time around we get into trade-ins, specifically whether it actually makes sense to de-tune your car before handing over the keys. The answer? It depends… and probably not how you’d hope.
Brian’s been busy since the last time he was on, so we run through his latest additions (none of them boring, obviously), and then jump into what’s happening in the market right now. We talk about the slow death of the V10—and why it’s probably not coming back—plus Corvette casually smashing the Pikes Peak production record with the ZR1X.
We also get into the totally-not-controversial Nitro Circus America situation, relive some of the worst mods we’ve ever done, and talk about how we somehow ended up loving cars we don’t even want to touch anymore.
