A type of race car with a massive engine but no wings on top to push it down onto the track. This makes the cars slide around a lot more and requires incredible driver skill to control.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is a pickup truck made by Ford that runs entirely on electricity instead of gasoline. It looks very similar to a standard truck but is powered by a large battery that you plug in to charge. Because it does not have a traditional engine, it features an extra trunk space under the front hood for storage.
A rule that forces the drivers who won the last race to start near the back of the pack in the next race, making them fight their way to the front to put on a better show for the crowd.
A very popular and affordable type of go-kart engine that is sealed by the manufacturer so racers can't cheat, keeping the racing fair and cheap.
LIVE
Well, hello everybody. Hello. Hope you're all doing well out there. This is Elliott.
That's Dwayne, another episode of the Dirt Nerds podcast coming at ya. We just got done
talking to our friend Cap Henry as you would have noticed in the title. So we got an interview
for ya, believe it or not. Yes. It's a miracle. Man, you've got like two in a month. I know.
Crazy. We're acting like we're the Dirt Nerds of the old. Yeah. Like we give a damn, right?
We're not old Dirt Nerds. We're just the Dirt Nerds of the old. Of old. Yeah. I did forget
to ask Cap. You know, he's been on the show before. It was when we did our live podcast
nearly like 10 years ago now, I think. Yeah. When he was racing for Lanes, they, him and
Brett joined us on stage for our live podcast. But yeah, it was good to catch up with Cap.
He's had a great year so far. Great last couple of years. So we talk about that. And yeah,
stay listening so you can hear what Cap has to share. But before we get to that, we got
some sponsors to talk about and a few race results to talk about. All the fun stuff.
Our first sponsor is our friends over at propane.com. If you haven't already, head over
to propane.com. Learn more about what propane can do for you. It is clean, safe, reliable
and affordable energy available for all kinds of uses these days, whether you're cooking
out in the barbecue or you own a business, you got a forklift, whether you're working
for a school, the school bus fleets nowadays are more and more powered by propane. It's
got all kinds of uses. It's affordable, like I said, made in the good old U.S. of A. Usa.
If you get a chance, head over to the website, learn more about what propane can do for you
instead of listening to us, blabber on about it. It's 100 degrees out today, so I didn't
get to use my propane today, Dwayne. You'll be happy to know that one. But yeah, head
over to the website propane.com because as they say, propane is energy for everyone.
Propane.com. There it is. Our next is our friends down at the whistle stop.
In Ansonia, Ohio, just down the road from Eldora Speedway. They had a pretty fun looking
race this past weekend with the rally cars there.
Yeah, it looked like the crowd ended up being pretty decent now. I heard they gave away a
lot of free tickets, so I don't know if that was free tickets or if that was...
It looked like a fun event though.
Yeah, it did. It looked like there was quite a few people that ended up turning out to.
Yeah, but if you go down to Eldora, we know the King's Royals coming up, you head just
down the road to Ansonia, Ohio. Hit up the whistle stop if you can. Lots of improvements
going on, so you've got to check those out while you're there. But you can order online.
You can drive up to their pickup window. They do door dash locally now, including to the
Eldora Speedway. So they've got awesome pizza, great burgers, great sandwiches, good dinners,
cold drinks, cheap shirts, all kinds of stuff to be had at the whistle stop. Check out the
website whistle, bars, and grill.
Desserts are good, but I've never had one.
I've never had room.
Yeah, you're their vibe. Usually, I'm stuffed from the main course. You always see them
flashing on that little board they got now. It's like, oh, shit, that's right, they do
have desserts.
Yeah, whistlebar and grill.com is the website. If you're down in the area, head a little
further south to downtown Greenville, check out the Shirt Shot Tap House. They've got
50 adult beverages on tap. They're all charged by the ounce. You pour them yourself. It works
out real well. You can try some of those goofy, weird beers that you may not want to pay an
entire pint for. So you just try it by the ounce, 50, 60, 70 cents. You say, I didn't
like that one. Go on to the next one, makes it a lot of fun.
Get a little more of it, say, OK, it really was bad or oh, it really was good.
Once you find one, you're committed, you can go ahead and pour yourself the whole pint.
They got everything from your domestics, local stuff, IPAs, seasonal stuff, stouts,
some porters, usually some ciders on hand and a seltzer. So check it out. They got the
Bullseye Game Lounge upstairs. They got the bourbon den, or the barrel den, which has
bourbons and wines that you can self-pour as well. That's a really fun room, won't we
tell you?
And they got the new bunker downstairs with some pool table, and I did see ping pong.
I thought there was.
You called that one last week, so they got some activities going on downstairs, upstairs,
the main floor, all kinds of fun to be had at the Shirt Shot Tap House. Head over to
the website for more. ShirtShotTapHouse.com. They got the stop pizza there as well and
a whole menu full of other stuff.
Yeah, they got more, the menu is getting bigger.
Yes, it is.
I know they had salads and they had all kinds of different things.
Yes, so check them out.
Salad and beer, that would be really good.
OK, so we've got an interview with Cap here, but Dwayne did go to some races. Friday night
was kind of an odd one. A bunch of tracks rained out, but Attica still got their show on
with the AFCS Sprints.
Very luckily got their show in because it pissy ass sprinkled a little bit, then it
missed a part of qualifying, and it looked like it was going to pass, which it did like,
OK, it's just, and it wasn't like bad. As long as you kept cars on track, it actually
stayed pretty nice, but then it finally moved out where it quit. So yeah, it was raining
several places around that area, just not Attica, but yeah.
And we talked to him, we talked about it, Cap Henry. It was already $5,000 to win, and
Attica's got this new deal. If you won the last regular show, it's on regular shows,
or AFCS shows, because those are counted as regular shows. You got to start eighth, and
if you win, well, depending on how many cars are there, so there's enough that, you know,
three heats, you're going to start eighth because it's the two, or two top two in each
heat, then two fastest qualifiers that do the redraw. And if you do that, you get an
extra thousand dollars, so Cap was going for $6,000, and he had to fight hard for Larry
King C. Jr., that's had an absolute just terrible year last year, and hasn't had the best of
luck this year, but a lot better than last year. Gave him all he handled for the first,
see his 30 lap race, I think Larry led the first 21 laps, or 18 laps, 19 laps, and Larry
is right there, then Cap got around him and ran away a little bit at the end, but Larry
looked like, looked like he was going to get it done. But he didn't cap $6,000, retook
point lead, TJ Michael's still right there, TJ ended up fourth, but yeah, Cap's got 13
point lead, and then the 305's guy has been on a mission this year, you know, it seems
like you get somebody, you know, it was Paul Weaver for a while, that was Jamie Miller,
then Seth Snyder was out a little bit last year, but Brian Sabito is on a terror right
now, and he won the 305B main in the late models, getting his 299th career win was Rusty
Slank.
Yeah, I went on Saturday to win at Oakshade for number 300.
Yeah, then Friday or Saturday, I went up to Butler Motor Speedway for the USAC show,
second year in a row, I think second, yeah, I don't think it's three, second year in a
row, I believe the USAC's been up there, and a great car count, 30 non-wing USAC cars,
had a few tracks in Indiana get rained out, so you had some guys like Zach Pretorius come
up, Tall came up, which Tall's been running USAC, but sometimes when they're a little
farther away, he stays closer to home, like Circle City got rained out, she had a few of
those guys up there, Ryan Gray, some of the Indiana guys came up there, and then your
USAC guys and a couple Butler guys, but yeah, I went up to them there, and the track was
very uncharacteristically muddy for engine heat and stuff, I mean, you could not see
hardly the Sprint cars or what number they were or who it was, one of those, a lot of
wheel packing was done, and it ended up drying off as the night went on, but a pretty good
race at Kyle Cummins won, the team I was helping, we had a very bad struggle all night long,
broke the power steering on the lap one of qualifying and looked bad, because Chad was
trying to drive it out, and I'm not sure what it was, but his steering kept locking up,
so it made it look a lot worse than what it was, than what he was, so anyways, got that
changed, didn't have setup, got literally pushed off, finishing up as the heat race
pushed off, so put him out there, then B Main took off, you know, towards the last part of the B
Main, and only missed it by a couple spots, but one of those rough nights, but you'll have
nights like that, but Dylan Neusebaum won the Modifieds up there, they had pretty good
field of Modifieds, because Sherman was up there and a bunch of those guys with a lot of rain
outs, and then Jacob Wilbur took the stock car win, and yesterday, I hear, see some comments
everyone saw, people said they liked the pavement nerds now too, just not the dirt nerds, went
pavement racing again, one, you get a chance to see non-winged sprint cars in Winchester,
I mean, do yourself a pleasure and go do it, I mean, because it's breathtaking, I mean,
those guys are going 14, 5, and 6 around there, and I mean, just, I mean, those cars get such
a twitch in the corners and that, and they're side by side, and it's like, it's just sometimes,
sketchy as hell, sometimes you're sitting in the grandstands getting the pucker factory,
you're not even out there, you know, and yeah, sketchy as hell, and great, I mean,
I thought it was a really good race for, you know, pavement non-winged show, you know,
Davey Hamilton, Jr. was kind of trying to dominate the day, they didn't
invert or anything, his quickest time started on the pole, and was leading in Jackson Machenko,
Cincinnati driver. Yeah, I was going to let you say the last name. Yeah, I saw him win,
and I was like, I think it's Machenko, but I'm not sure. From Cincinnati, got his first career
win, and he earned it, and you know, he was happy, and pretty emotional, he says Winchester's
one of his favorite tracks, and it just takes a lot, a lot of mental to race that track, and then
Chris Hamilton was being his whiny-ass self, and traffic cost him the race, and it's like,
just pass track if you're the best, you know. Yeah, the guy at 1 did, probably. Yeah, the guy at 1
did, you know, Cody Swanson didn't have any problem, he started like 6th or 8th, and ended
up 3rd, and they didn't have problems. Yeah, I guess he only wants 12 cars to show up. Yeah,
but it doesn't surprise me with him. But yeah, Dave Hamilton Jr. got 2nd, Cody Swanson 3rd,
so it was good, and they had the late models there, which was a pretty decent race.
John Beach ended up winning that, and then I think the guy at last name was Robins that won the
Thunder Road Series. They had 7 and only 6 raced in it, and he wants to talk about lap cars. There's
3 of the cars in the 20 lap feature got lapped, at least 6 lap times, maybe 7.
So there's 2 really good cars, 1 pretty decent car, and 3 that was out for a Sunday afternoon
cruise. And that was on the big track. Yes. Oh, wow. Yes. Yeah. But yeah, good show at Winchester,
a quick show. I mean, it rained there a couple of times, and rained on the way there for no chance
of rain yesterday, so it's kind of glad because it was hot. So they kind of redid the program,
but like we're just going to qualify and run main events, and first main pushed off at 230,
and we was out of there. It's 403. Nice. Yeah. Well, yeah, good show. But you had guys like
Ryan Gray that raced the night before on C.J. Leary, went from Butler down to Winchester on
nine-win cars. Ryan Newman was there, racing cars. Newman and his daughter too, right?
She was not racing. Oh, she was an IRP, I think. Yeah, and she was at Plymouth for the... Oh, yeah.
They raced at Plymouth on Saturday night with the Midgets. But yeah, Ryan Newman thought he was
going to do something there for a while. He had a decent day within the main. He just, we didn't
do terrible, but he was, I think he ended up maybe 6, 7 somewhere down there. But yeah,
it was, I thought it was very entertaining. And our buddy James Honeycutt,
who's going to go to some late-mile races on the way, but got smart and decided to come to some
sprint car races instead. He went up to Butler, and he thought it reminded him a lot of those
tracks down south. Yeah. And then he really loved Winchester. Tonight he's over to US 24,
then we're meeting up tomorrow on Wednesday for the BC 39, one of my most favorite races of the year.
Well, your favoriteist? Yeah, favoriteist. It's more fun.
It's more funner than a lot of them. It's funner. It's funner. No, it is. The BC 39 is awesome.
They had 68 cars entered, and it is. It's usually one of the best races of the year. So we'll be
seeing our buddy Honeycutt. Yeah, that was my weekend. Our buddy Wolfie, they got their car
in Victory Lane for dirt nerds, he says, later tonight. Out in either Montana or Wyoming
somewhere. So yeah, so that was pretty much my weekend. I watched IRP on Thursday night.
Who won that? I never did see. Put you on the spot, sorry.
Son of a bitch. Wasn't Sammy, obviously. No, he didn't want to measure. Well,
um, damn. Why did I not remember? I shouldn't remember who won. Who's the first time winner?
It was, uh, I'm looking, looking, looking. It was, uh, is that one guy? Yeah. No, Sammy, uh,
was really bad in the midget on IRP. You didn't even make the AMA. Oh, wow. Dakota. Yeah. Dakota
Armstrong. Yeah. That's right. Yep. Yep. I knew it was somebody I liked and I was like, I'm thinking
it's like, dammit, B suckers, the crew chief, Kevin B sucker, which used to race and been a
friend of mine forever. It's like, why, why can't the name pop into my head? So yeah, Dakota Armstrong.
That, that was actually not too bad of a race. Yeah. It doesn't tell me the midgets though.
Um, yeah. Tony sort was racing a midget. I knew I was racing a midget.
What was it? Hamilton, that one?
Nick Hamilton. Yes. Yeah. So I didn't know which one.
But yeah, yeah, they had a lot of midgets too. It looked like, yeah. Well,
Plymouth had like 25 or 27 on Saturday night. That's cool to see that kind of coming back a
little bit. Yeah. Yeah. And that's what I heard. And you get guys, you know, Sammy's running it,
obviously kind of being one of the spokesmen at Tony store, you know, ran the other night
that Ryan Newman and his daughters have been running a lot of them now. And a team as was
one in one the other night. Well, team as was that Attica Friday. Yeah, I saw that in a
Stan Quartet nine X. Wow. Okay. Yeah. I thought he was in his double zero maybe, but nine X.
I know nine X there. Everybody's like, Oh, Rick and Peterson must be driving that. And I'm like,
No, there comes team. I was like, Whoa, I was kind of as fast as supposed to race at
Mansfield Friday night. Got rained out. So the Nate Dossler buddy won Saturday.
Yes, 5k 5k and cap who we just talked to started a little slow. I think on the night had to
battle but came up to third, I believe, or second, I think second, second. Yeah. So,
you know, another good outing for cap even after a bit of a different start, which track was fully
redone. Yeah, looked a lot better. They said it was a lot better. Everybody I've seen said it was
a lot better than they had non wing boss cars to which Corbin Hazlett. Yes, one that. Yeah.
Word of outlaw late models were are out. We say out West, but Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota,
Minnesota. But yeah, it kind of doesn't matter where because it's been one winner five times.
Yes. Bobby Pierce has been dominating word of outlaw action. Yes. It's the Bobby Pierce ATM
tour right at the moment. I think at no DAC was last night and we got 12 laps from the finish.
I watched that when they had lightning or just rain. Well, it was so they moved program to run
all the outlaw stuff first because there was a huge storm coming in as read that on radar where
it was 60 mile per hour winds and hail and all that and lightening three miles from the track.
So with 12 laps to go and they're like, okay, supposedly there's hail and 60 mile per hour
wind. We want everybody to get out of here since the lightning is three miles from here.
We need to go now. Yeah. Yeah. So guys time to get loaded up. Yeah. Time to get to their cars and
yeah. Cause they, they was trying to push it off as much as they could. I mean,
they ran a pretty good show. I ended up watching it and yeah, it was, uh, that place was awesome.
I mean, they just run three and four wide and you thought maybe, I mean, there's guys getting
runs at Bobby nonstop and that it's like there's a safety wall when they got to the back of him.
I mean, they could get there, but they couldn't do anything once they got there. Yeah. I mean,
he's got, maybe he's got, uh, you know, a, uh, magic force field that you can't go around there.
He's got the, the blocker on or something. But yeah, he's, uh, pretty good for a guy
that never make it out on a tour, you know, but some people said like 10 years ago. Yeah.
One of all the sprint cars were up at Cedar Lake for two nights, gravel one Friday,
Sheldon one on Saturday. Yes. Excuse me. Uh, just announced as we came on here, uh,
make sure we announce it, but, uh, Lucas oil announced that they are moving their race Friday
this Friday, uh, atomic speedway up to Mansfield speedway. So last minute change.
Yeah. Another big show for Mansfield at the last minute and, uh, I'm going to say,
I don't know, I'm not going to say it's final dagger, but I'm going to say it's probably a,
it's probably bleeding bad. I think the bandage is, uh, leaking now on atomic speedway because I
heard that, and I don't know how true it is. I don't know, but I heard that the, this July deal
race was going to kind of determine if it was going to be open the rest of the year, how much
money they made off of it. Cause the banks hold the banks kind of writing the money and doing
the checks now, but now you just take away, I mean, let's face it, they was going to make some money.
This race usually makes some money in the Lucas oil there. I went to a Sunday afternoon rain,
rain, you know, rain down on Friday and they ran Sunday afternoon and it was a hell of a crowd,
you know, and that, that usually 35, 40 bucks a ticket. If you get, you know, 3,000, 4,000 people
there, you're talking 120, 160,000. Yeah. You're paying out after your expenses and purse, you're
paying out a hundred or so, but you know, they needed this 40 to $50,000 and yeah. Now,
whatever reason, I'm on a guess. Lucas oil was probably like the all stars and wanted their
money ahead of time. Would be my guess. Yeah. Usually they, a new track signs up at those
series. They want the money ahead of time. Once you're established, yeah, they, they let it
slide till the night of now with this special situation. I'm sure they said, Hey, can you get
that up front? That'd be my guess. Yeah. My guess that didn't happen. Like I said, I'm just, just
guessing, but if you're around as much as we are, I mean, the handwriting is on the wall. Yeah.
Evidently, somewhere along the line, somebody got nervous and for more than likely,
you know, I know they just kind of upset at the all stars because they said, well, I'll call
them our bank and, you know, the bank will wire the money and bank will do this and bank will do
that. And, you know, maybe Lucas oil totaled them like the all stars. They'd like, no. Yeah.
This is, you know, yeah. Speaking of Lucas oil, firecracker 100 was at Leverville this weekend.
First night got rained out. Say they're fighting weather a little bit even the final night,
but Devin Moran, our buddy Devin got the win. $50,000. So congrats to him.
Oh, Danny Ebert on the qualifying night got a second place. Yeah. He was looking pretty
stoked. Yeah. Highlights. I saw. Well, I liked about it. He's wearing a Bill Baylock t-shirt.
Oh, yeah. Yesterday they did something on him. And I was like, that's pretty cool.
What else am I missing? Dwayne Knoxville Raceway Cam Martin or Chris Martin. Chris Martin. Yeah.
Cam's older brother. Guy's been out there, you know, coming up the ranks first career Knoxville
win. So that's kind of big. Yes, I did see that. Let's see. What else?
Hell tour got rained out a lot. I was gonna say they think they got rained out like as many
races as Bobby Pearson won. I think they rained out five of the six this week. Yeah, they like
hadn't had any luck. No, they are racing tonight. I see Lincoln in Pennsylvania is racing tonight.
50,000 the win. 50,019 dollars. And Carson Macedo and Logan Shearer are checked in. So
yeah, Kerry Madsen using some of our their freebies. Yes. With the outlaw guys.
Yeah, this huge purse. Yeah. And people are bitching us 40 bucks to get in. That is 50,019 dollars a
win. I think it's 1200 to start or 1500 or something like that's the Steve Smith
Yep. Memorial race. Yes. Yeah, big, big show there. You know, the hell tour
racing tonight in Camden, Tennessee is in and Rusty and Carter Slank joined the tour for the
next two weeks. Yeah, I was gonna say they come our our way next week. Yes. Yeah, not this week
next week and yeah week from now. Other news Drake Troutman. Did you see that news? Yes. Split
with GR Smith. Sounds like it was gonna happen. Yeah, they just had terrible luck. Well, and
Troutman's modified car owner who he's had lots of success in the modified was going late model
racing, putting a team together. So yeah, but sounds like that team is not gonna be ready for
till like almost August. Yeah, it says well, there's a possibility I just see this now.
We will attend Shearer and Speedway for the word about what was July 11th and 12th. Yeah,
but in a backup car Colton Flinners. Yes. Yes. So they're gonna be in Flinners car for a couple
weeks. Yep. And yeah, Jerry Foster's late model team put together back racing first of August,
like you said. So he'll be racing just yeah, kind of a peculiar situation because GR Smith has
the budget has the backing and wanted Troutman for the long term and Troutman just kind of
got another young gun though, took over or teamed up with now. I don't know. Sounds like they're
using Tim's equipment kind of well and they're through the Minnesota deal. But so they might
end up back on because Jake Tim, you know, kind of fell off the door because of financial deal. So
it sounds like I think it was kind of a trial deal. They said, Hey, we're doing it right now
through Minnesota on that, but it could maybe turn into more. So let's see what happens there.
Yeah. I don't know. We're kind of going off of our hip here because I don't know if you've seen,
I know it's not Sprinter late miles. We see unfortunate tragedy accident at the line of
fairgrounds in the American flag track. I did see that motorcycle accident. Yeah. Bromley. Yes.
Third generation rider. I don't know. I am very shocked. Well, I'm not because people on Facebook
are kind of dumb at times, but I searched to make sure I got all the information right today for
my radio show. And of course, the first person, some private guy puts the picture of the accident
on there. It was nasty. I didn't see any of it. It was just just white rider wiped out.
Just at the exit, turned to probably a quarter way down the back stretch and was laying there
and he hit him and just catapulting. Yeah, Dan Bromley. I have never seen a guy get catapulted
as high as he did. Unfortunately, unfortunately, he landed in the fence. Yeah, sad, terrible,
terrible accident. But prayers to the family for sure. And it's got a couple little kids
showed showed a picture of them actually at the back of the van. His wife and a couple kids and
that. But yeah, not I went to that deal last year. And yeah, that's, you know, it's a crazy deal.
We talk about sprint cars and late miles that man riding, you know, 100 miles per hour and
literally banging handlebars. It's yeah, it's a special breed of person. Yeah, those are
crazy to watch. I mean, racing is good too. Oh, yeah, it was excellent. But yeah, sad news
at Wayne County again. I didn't know about that till our group text was popping off today. I got a
modified. I don't know how that happened or but a modified went flying through the infield,
whether it was broken or yeah, I don't know how and hit a guy on a golf cart setting an infield.
Yeah. And I know they said the dude's going in the was going into surgery yesterday, but he had
broken collar bone, broken ribs, broken. I mean, he had all kinds of stuff. But as you see from the
Wayne County, you got two strikes. Yeah, you're lucky in all seriousness and talking to Rick,
I think he knows he's pretty lucky to we're lucky somebody hasn't got killed in the last couple
weeks of Wayne County. Yeah, I mean, I'm surprised you got insurance and stuff. Like, how's that
going? Where's your cement barrier? You need to put them up. I don't care. You guys can act tough
and all that stuff. Oh, we don't need them. Our infield's big. Third time, I'm going to say,
probably not going to come out the outcomes at you. Yeah, somebody's telling you something. Yeah,
a higher power is telling you, hey, I mean, you look at like the dome gateway and then
Fairberry does it where they have concrete barriers on the inside of the corners and you
have to stay in those. Well, Butler had some type of barriers the other night up there. They was,
they were, to me, they look like the plastic ones, but I'm sure that's filled with something. Yeah,
sand or maybe concrete or stone or I don't know. But I noticed that and, you know,
Kokomo's done it now. There's some tracks that are that way. Get the hit Wayne County. Yeah,
I mean, I always thought that when I just take pictures, like when I see the setups that have it,
I'm like, that I would not have a problem with that. Right. And just stay in a designated area.
Right. We used to go to gas city and you can walk the whole infield while the races are going on.
That's a little quarter mile to Wayne County, too. You know, but I mean, 22 races in a row.
Yeah. I mean, not a good look for sure. Well, yeah, somebody's telling you something. Yeah,
speaking of Rick, he's home now. Yes, the hospital. So our buddy, Rick, rare photographer that was
heard at Wayne County. Not sure. I mean, he's got a long, long road to recovery for sure. So
but yeah, it was good to hear from me. I haven't talked to him last couple of days, but I've been
getting been messaging Snapchat and stuff back and forth. So yeah, he's doing better now.
Yeah. Speaking of gas city, I don't know if you've seen kind of stuff popping up on the
and you might not be on because you're not on Facebook a whole lot, but some of the groups,
there's a Indiana dirt track Indiana kind of group page. They do all the results from Indiana.
And hey, what's coming up? Well, there's been some dude posting on there. Supposedly
he's supposed to guess it. He's supposed to have some race this weekend in the 10th of or 11th
of July. They're supposed to have a big sprint car race and all that stuff, but nobody and
everybody's like, well, we think this is fake. Now, how, you know, like, okay, all of a sudden,
this dude paid the $2 million for the track or whatever and they haven't raced forever. Now
all of a sudden, like this week, you're going to have a race and next week, you're going to have
a race. So Harley, you know, where's advertising? Where's the, yeah, but he had a, Hey, if we pay
like 7,500 wind for non-wings prints and this for modifies and everybody's like, dude, this
got to be fake and, and so on. But then there's a couple other people say, well, we're heading
out there because it's supposed to be having some modified racing stuff. So be interesting.
There's not much traction from it. And they actually took the, take the post down because
you can post to the group and they've been taking the post down because there's no proof
that it's, uh, that it's happening. There's no verified merit behind it. But supposedly,
some guy's trying to say that he's going to be having some races at gas city and nice,
but they can't verify and I guess he can't prove any of the information. So, of course,
sounds like a dirt track racing deal. Yeah. Yes. So, but maybe, maybe there's hope. I don't know.
Another note to announce or to acknowledge Knoxville,
Hall of Fame, Flagman. Yes. Doug Clark. You got to, you know, we got to mention that.
41 years of flagging career over at Knoxville Raceway, passed away at 73. His son reported
on Facebook citing recent health issues. So, you know, hadn't heard much of Doug lately.
No, I've seen him. I always see him around here and there. You see him at Chilly Bowl?
Yeah. So, uh, sad to hear that guys. That's the last time I seen. Guy was around for a long time.
Everyone knew him. Oh, cool guy. If you ever want to Knox or whatever, he wasn't afraid to drink a
beer with you afterwards or talk to you or whatever. Just super, super nice guy. Yeah. So sad to hear
there. And what I liked about him is, and he'll tell you in the driver's meeting, if you ever went
to one of his driver's meetings, he's like, I don't care for friends. I don't care. He goes,
who you are. If you're Steve Kindler, Sammy Swindell, Danny Lassocki, he goes, if your number's one,
10, 12, 18, he goes, if you jump, you're going to the, you're, you're going back. He says,
I look at the car number. I don't look at anything else. And I don't care who's driving it.
You're all going to be the same. You know, if it's 21, that's, you know,
you're going back just as much as anybody else are back rowing. And he stuck that pretty,
he met business and he was one of those guys that wasn't wishy-washy or
that. I mean, he was in fair across the board and he pointed that black flag at you. You better
know the next time you better, better not dick up because that black flag could see you parked in
the pits. Yeah. Another bit of news. Portsmouth set to reopen. Yes. Finally gone through the
Gent family from Hillsborough, Kentucky, who currently owned Mudlick Valley as well. Opening her
up. Sounds like they got some plans to make some things happen. Yeah, they're trying to get
things around to race sooner, rather than later. But yeah, Portsmouth will be cool.
Well, they was wanting to have a big race this weekend and decided, no, it's too soon. But
sounds like here sometime yet, July, they're going to try to sound like maybe have a race going.
Yeah. Looks like we were talking of summer national. Sorry, I'm just going through dirt on
dirt. I was like, oh yeah, there's updates there. But Lincoln Illinois is taking LaSalle's date
for summer nationals. So LaSalle had to cancel their July 2 date due to damage from a storm.
Lincoln was rained out on the 21st, so they're taking that date, which, you know, good to
backfill what you can, especially if you've lost so much to water. Yeah, exactly.
There are, you know, some things happen. So yeah, there's some storm damage. Coles County is
another one that got big time damaged because there've been a terrible storms in Illinois lately.
Yeah. That's kind of the new tornado alley. Yeah. It's actually looking like so.
Yeah. I got a picture of the new Balclair Speedway. You know, they had the old one shut down. They're
building a whole new deal. I got a picture of my uncles out there right now. He sent me a picture
and it's getting there. And I think they're supposed to have a race here. I saw some overhead
pictures of it or something. It looks, yeah, they've done a lot. It reminds me of what they did
in Lawrenceburg. Yeah, it's getting there. So it sounds like, I think by the end of the year,
they're supposed to have some races. A lot of concrete. Oh yeah. So it's
always a good thing. Yeah, for sure. Well, I'm sure we're missing something, but that was our fly
by the pants racing update. We got an interview with Kepp Henry. Everyone's probably wanting to
hear instead of listening to us blabber on. Maybe. Let's get to it. Here he is, our friend Kepp Henry
just before Attica's fan appreciation night this Friday. So if you get a chance, get out there,
you can go in the pits after qualifying or after hot laps, hot lap qualifying, whatever.
And say hello, get some hero cards. Lots of drivers have stuff to hand out. Pictures, autographs.
Yeah, get a picture, get a picture with your favorite driver, get a hero card, whatever,
and get out and say hello. They all appreciate seeing you. So for sure. Without any more delay,
I guess I'll say stay dirty. Here's our interview with Kepp Henry. All right. Well, today we have
a guest on the line, another interview. Big deal for us, Dwayne, because we don't do many
interviews anymore. I know. But lucky to get a successful driver here and especially in our
area, but obviously been making lots of waves across the country. But you know, coming off a
$6,000 win on Friday night with a little bonus in there and House Sprint Speed Week championship,
we got Kepp Henry on the line. Obviously Dwayne talks a lot about him being AFCS guy around here,
but Kepp's been nice enough to join us tonight for a little bit. What you got going on tonight, Kepp?
Well, this worked out perfect because I got to get away from Zach Washington. So I got to go
sit in my car with Derek Dixon running for a minute while he goes and switches his butt off.
There you go. That's perfect. I mean, sometimes we get guys working and
everything on their cars. So we appreciate the sacrifice in Zach a little bit to cool off and
talk to us. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure I'll hear about it here in a little bit, but he can deal with it
for now. I'll probably hear about Friday, too, if you tell him what he's doing.
Oh, guarantee it. Yes, I love it. So Kepp, obviously we've been, I mean, hell,
last few years been talking a lot about you because you've been in victory lane so much. But
I mean, you're a race car driver, so I'm sure you always got lofty goals. You don't show up to
come in second. But you know, how's your year been for you so far and your goals you're hoping to
accomplish? It's been good. One of the big ones that we wanted to achieve this year was Ohio Speed Week.
Obviously, we achieved that. You know, the week didn't kind of start off obviously how we wanted
and you know, just to get going, we didn't really think we had a chance to win in the Speed Week
title. And then, you know, we got to, got to the end there and we were there and, you know, it was
closer than we would have liked. But to pull that off was really cool to win a second one.
Then, you know, it's just been, just kind of plugging away at it. We had an unfortunate engine
issue that kind of hurt us there early on in the AFCS points, but, you know, been digging back at
that. Otherwise, you know, just, you know, obviously we wanted to race more, but Mother Nature hasn't
been on our side or anybody else's. You know, so just, just racing. You know, we've only run,
I think 17 races at this point. So just trying to race, but trying to do stuff that makes sense.
You know, we don't, we don't want to just go do races that don't pay well or
aren't, you know, worth our time. So trying to balance all that out.
Well, yeah. And as you said, Cap, AFCS, I mean, you know, you've been the man to beat,
you know, the last several years and actually when you've ran the whole season, you know, I mean,
you've got a, you know, the championship in this year kind of struggled at the beginning,
but took over the point lead last week and it's, you know, made it, it's always close,
but you guys seem to be hitting the rhythm now and Attica's got this handicap system.
I know that a lot of people don't like and you've, you know, won from eight to last couple of times.
I mean, yeah, it's cool to get an extra $1,000, but when you're trying to do a championship
and that it kind of makes it rough to get penalized as tough as it is. I mean,
you know, TJ's been right there all year. I mean, you gained a point lead,
but he's still in finished fourth. So like you said, one hit cup and, you know,
it gets jumbled up a little bit. I talked about that a little bit of just how tough it is and
then a situation like that where you got to start eight.
Yeah, that was probably my number one complaint about it when I got implemented this year was,
you know, the fact that, you know, we do run basically for two points title. So
I would have cared a little bit less if it only affected the Attica races,
but with it affecting the AFC, right? AFCS races, it's felt a little bit unfair
to have to start eight at those shows. You know, I know it puts on a show and unfortunately we've,
we've succeeded. So then it shows that it's doable. Right. But yeah, but yeah, I mean,
I don't, I don't agree with it. I know that Attica is in the business of trying to put on a show and
it's good for the fans. But you know, I think, you know, with the other two divisions, it's kind
of showed that it's a pretty big detriment to start eight in attempt to win some of these races.
So yeah, you know, that's, that's kind of where I'm at with it. I was a little bit annoyed after,
after Ohio Speed Week that we had that all-star show in the middle. And that that didn't,
I thought that would at least pause it for a week. And I didn't, I, you know, I don't really
understand how, you know, so those shows are full points. Craig wins that thing. And I know Craig's
not there, but it should have, I guess I didn't think that it should have gone back to the previous
week, but you know, I guess it kind of is what it is, but you know, and I hate to sound whiny
about it, but it's just that, I don't know, I don't think, I understand, I understand the principle
fully. I know we're, we're in the business of putting on a show, but it's just, I, I don't know,
it's kind of one of those, I guess it is what it is. Right. And I agree with you, because when they
brought that, they said something to me and I like, man, I mean, you know, we have a lot of money.
I mean, anybody's followed AFCS the last few years, you know, between the two divisions,
we was at $97,000 and it's like, you know, I, I get it too. I get it, but it's like,
you know, are you going to do that to the all-stars or outlaws when they come in? Hey,
you won last year, you got to start at least eight, you know, and not, and I get it. We're,
we're a local deal and I get it. And that's kind of what to say. Well, you're here to promote
local, which I get it, but yeah, it's kind of what, I mean, when you got all that extra money,
you're talking $20,000 between the two points funds. And it's like, yeah, it makes it a little
interesting for sure. But you've conquered it so far and, you know, which, which has been good,
which, you know, last week with 5,000 win, then it made it six. I mean, at least, I like that
you're at least getting rewarded per se, you know, for, for winning. But yeah, it's, it's, it's
okay. Yeah, I can do it. But now they, it's like, okay, look, let's see, it was a great concept to
do that. But yeah, I get it too, especially as much money as we have involved. I mean,
you hate to see something happen to cost somebody, you know, two championships over something like
that. Exactly. And I, at the end of the day, the money side of it's more where I'm at on it.
Oh yeah. Obviously, that's, that's how we get paid. You know, we are, we are performance
paid employees more or less. You know, so that's where it's at, you know, and, you know, a lot
of our sponsorship stuff, some of that stuff, that is what sponsors look at, you know, look at your
results. Right. You know, so it's, it's a little bit more pressure to maintain those results,
you know, to keep, you know, keep people happy and keep people wanting to come back on board. And
yeah, so it's just, it's, it's tough. Like I said, I see both sides of it. I see the side that Attica's
on. But you know, on our side of it, it's, you know, two championships. And like you said, it's,
it's a lot of money. Like, you know, it's 20 grand between the two. You know, so to be penalized for
it is, to me, it's a little bit crazy because at the end of the day, we're not doing anything that
hasn't been done before. Right. I haven't broken any records. Mark Keegan, I tied the amount of
races he won last year. You know, I didn't win more races than he's ever won. Didn't win more
races than Byron's ever won. You know, just matched what those guys have done on their good years.
But you know, I guess it is what it is. Yeah. And I guess, you know, obviously, I'm kind of the
model side of things. I definitely understand what you mean and how detrimental it can be.
As my, my driver's been the reward, you know, it's been his reward a couple weeks to now is
starting eighth or whatever. But I think for sprint cars, it's interesting. And, and I mean,
part of it, I guess, and kind of if you could speak to it is how tough the local competition has
gotten as a guy like you who has raced everywhere pretty much and you know, raced against all kinds
of talent. But we can week out, I mean, Dwayne are big, you know, proponents of how good some of
our Ohio guys are here. And obviously, starting eighth, after being a winner is an ideal because
it's not like it's a gimme by any means. Yeah, I mean, it's, it obviously shows
how good the car is, right? You know, by no means am I like, I'm of this phenomenal driver. And
I've got Zach, Chris, Jeff, Gary, you know, Zach is so good with the cars. Jeff gives us
everything we need to make this car competitive. And, you know, Gary provides us with just great
engines. You know, Paul Kistler also was a big factor in that this year, Henry's headers has
come on and has been helping us. You know, so that's been a fun new thing that we've been working
with is, you know, working with them on some header stuff. So, you know, all those things are
factors on why this car is so good. And, you know, and obviously Zach and I's background goes a
little ways. And we, we did the all star deal together. So we got that experience out on the
road. I had done that before. So when we came here, we knew what direction we thought we needed to go.
And, you know, Jeff and Gary have just allowed us to push and to be better.
And Jeff's a great car owner. He doesn't, he's not hard on us by any means. He's honestly,
he's probably one of the nicest car owners I've ever had. He lets us do what we need to do if we
can explain why we think we need something. He's on board. And, you know, when nights don't go well,
he's not, you know, hey, you guys, you guys got to do better. You know,
the most he's ever asked us is why we thought a night went bad. You know, he was never,
you know, hard on us or critiquing us. He just, he just wanted answers, which we thought was fair.
Yeah, for sure. And, and that's one thing I was going to bring up is your team. I mean, okay,
you get good years where, you know, like I said, you pop off, you know, 15, 21, some of these guys
do or, you know, 18, 16, whatever. And, but you guys have been doing it now, you know,
year after year after year, where you've been, you know, that, and it takes a lot
to keep that going year after because, you know, everybody's like, okay,
eventually that's going to start, you know, look at Donny Schatz, you know, I mean, he was dominant
for 10 years and all of a sudden now it looks like, you know, he struggles and all that. So
just a team effort. I mean, it's got to be hard to keep doing it race after race year after year,
for sure. But like I said, I've talked to Jeff a lot and it's funny because he just looks like
he's having a great time. And he just like said, I've never seen him get upset. I mean, I've had
a few car owners, he mad at me or, or that with AFCS deal and Jeff's just, he just smiles and
hey, thanks. When I give you an envelope or something or afterwards or something, just like,
hey, man, thanks. Thanks. He goes, anytime you're doing something, we'll be there. And like, you
know, and you, it's just awesome. Yeah. Jeff's a great guy. He honestly, he is. Ended up here.
It's been a God sent Zach and I and it's, you know, obviously it's done a lot for my career.
You know, the things we've achieved here, I didn't ever think I would achieve as a driver,
you know, to win as many races as we have and, you know, all these things and to see how happy
it makes Jeff, how happy it makes Gary. To me, at the end of the day, that honestly almost means
more, you know, to see a guy that he's put so much into it and to be able to reward him and give him
things back, you know, that truly means a lot. Yeah. When it comes to, you know, the car and all
that side of things, you know, you've been in other rides before over the years. Hell, you're,
I don't know, you're around my age. I think you're a little younger, but I've been watching your race
forever, it seems like. So even in our 30s, we're old farts pretty much. But, you know, you got a
good combination, it seems like right now. And you've had others and maybe haven't had as much
success as far as like, what's it take? Obviously, you got Zach, you and him have been together
forever, know each other very, very well. But, you know, there's a whole puzzle to put together.
What's it take and how do you find it, I guess? So I mean, obviously, people are like the number
one thing and making this all work. And we have the right people around us. You know, obviously,
Zach's so good with the cars, maintenance, setups, just working through things, you know,
when we've been bad to kind of get back out of it and figure out what it takes to
make me comfortable, make the cars fast, you know, and obviously Jeff, you know, just
pushing us to do better, you know, never makes us doubt that, you know,
are we going to have a job the next year? You know, what are we doing? And then just keeping
the car funded, you know, and that comes to, you know, to all our really good marketing partners,
you know, like Premier Planning Services, Innovative Excavating, Blue Stripe Equipment,
Rental, you know, LA's Custom trailers and carts, you know, obviously, they help us out on a really
awesome trailer that's got, you know, everything we need to go up and down the road to get to the
races, you know, and then we've got really good partners that, you know, help us with car parts
that we need, you know, Doug Berrymanet, Berryman Racing Shocks gives us, you know, great shocks,
works through, you know, him and Zach work together on that side of it. King Racing products,
you know, parts we need, Kisla Racing products, you know, anything we need, maximum elite wings,
power cool manufacturing, you know, just those people make this work,
you know, and it's been a lot to maintain it, but we've got a lot of just really good partners.
Like I said, we've, you know, working with Henry headers this year, you know, just trying to see
if, you know, maybe we could do something a little bit different and be better. Mobile One Racing
helped us out a lot this year, you know, FK Rodin's just, you know, keeping things supplied,
Jandie Industries, she's been an awesome new partner this year. She keeps the guys, you know,
happy and fed at the races, you know, so just all those things, you know, right? Like it's not,
it's not one thing that makes a team succeed. At the end of the day, it's the people that make
a team succeed. And if you surround yourself with the right people, even if the success isn't
there immediately, it has to happen eventually. And, you know, we're at that, we're at that
eventually point. And it's hard, you know, you have to maintain it. You know, I've always said,
I remember looking back at the team shape for years in the 83 car that they were just so dominant,
so dominant, so dominant. And then finally it ended, you know, so just, just the biggest thing
to us is enjoying it while we got it now and trying to not, not dwell on the success and,
you know, start fighting each other or get behind. It's just to, you know, focus on
continuing to do our job weekend and weekend. So how much easier is it to remember all those
marketing partners after you've been in Vic Relay in a bunch of times?
Man, you would think it's been easy, but I still like catch myself like
forgetting somebody and having to text them. And I'm like, I'm so sorry. I forgot your name.
You know, and there's the ones that I've had forever that are easy. And then it's like,
when you get new ones, you don't want to repeat the old ones that aren't with you.
And then you're trying to make sure you get the new ones. And oh man, I'm not as good at it as
everybody thinks I am because I tried to not do the, you know, turn my shoulder and look at the
car because I think that looks so bad. But yeah, it's tougher than you'd think.
But that's good. And, you know, you brought up some good points of people around you and just
enjoying it while you have it. And I've seen that out of you guys. And that's something I think a
lot of people don't understand. And another thing people don't understand is you got a full time,
you work, Zach works, you know, you guys all got jobs. It's not like you're, you know, this is
all you do. You guys all work yet too. And, you know, it takes a lot of hours to do this and
plus working on top of it. Yeah, exactly. You know, so everybody, you know, obviously everybody
makes the comments like, why don't we go high limit racing? Why don't we go all-star racing?
You know, why aren't we at PA Speed Week? You know, things like that. And it's,
it's because we can't. It's not that we don't want to go. We would love to. I would love to go do
PA Speed Week and get to experience it once. You know, the desire for me to want to go do the
all-star deal or like the high limit deal, that's not really there anymore. And it doesn't really
have to do with the fact that, like, I know I wouldn't go to the high limit deal and like just
kick their butt. Like I'm modest enough to know that, that that's not how that would go. I'm at
the point in my career that I want to enjoy myself. You know, I did the years of getting my teeth
kicked in and I'm happy doing what I'm doing to be completely honest. I'm just, I'm happy. You
know, I've got a pretty good job. You know, Zach's got a good job and you know, we've,
we've got significant others at home. You know, we like, we like seeing them, you know, as much
as people might not believe that. You know, and we have home lives. You know, it's fun to do what we
do and we know our spot, you know, in the racing ecosystem. Like we know we're a local team. You
know, we know that occasionally we bat above where we should. You know, and that's what it is.
Well, yeah, that's kind of one reason I brought it up because you catch a lot of
shit on social media. Well, why ain't you going to high limits? Why ain't you going to the
outlaws? Why ain't you going? And that's why. I mean, you guys, you're a local team. You guys work,
you have, like I said, significant others. Zach has, you know, children, you know, I mean, it's,
it, this is, you know, you're on a local level and you're just like I said, you're not the only
one doing it. Byron Reed did it. Mark Keegan did it. And you know, it just happens to me right now,
you're doing it. And that to me, and I had a veteran driver tell me one time that won a lot.
He says, you know, when they're making noise, whether it's cheers or booze, you know, you're
doing something, you're doing, you're good because, you know, half of them is pissed off,
you won and the other half's cheering that you won. Yeah. I mean, I don't mind the, the people
booing at the racetrack. Like I don't really mind that. Like I get it. Like everybody's got their
favorites. You know, so I understand that, but I'll just be honest, man. Like some of the people
on social media are just so mean. Right. It sucks. You know, like I think they forget that like
we're people too, right? Yeah, exactly. You know, like, and it's one thing like,
it would be one thing to me if fans could just admit, well, I don't like him. Like, and I just
don't like him, but like just the, you know, the things that, you know, you said, you know,
dirty driver or your cheats or, you know, all this, like, God, it's just like,
just say you just don't like me. Like when works, if you could just say you just don't
like me because I went too much, that would be fine. Yeah. But yeah, it is. I mean, and it's
crazy. Some of the theories some people come up with, you know, and, uh, uh, but yeah, it's just
nuts. And but yeah, and it's cool that it's, it's, it's, it's seriously on to bring up because
people, you know, it's nice to realize you guys are just like everybody else. You go to work,
you come home, you know, you got something, others, and you go work on the race car and
all that stuff. It just happens that you guys are the ones winning right now a lot.
Yeah. And I mean, I think that's what people forget or just don't realize is that, you know,
we all do day jobs. Um, you know, Zach Zach's a fab guy at Thor Sport. Jeff owns his demolition
business and he goes and works himself in the, you know, in the equipment and you know, I,
I go to SCS Gearbox every day, go work. Um, you know, we're not, Jeff's not paying us to just
fit in the shop and twiddle our thumbs all day as much as we wish he would. Um, you know, we do
work and, you know, it's, it's hard on everybody. Um, you know, obviously it's
hard on the families, you know, speed weeks hard, you know, and you know, obviously when we, we're
not as good as we want to be, it's, you know, extra time in the shop trying to figure it out.
Um, so yeah, but I'm, you know, I, if more people would realize what,
that it's just what the team is, I think they would understand. Um, pretty quick,
at the end of the day, some people don't want to understand and you know, that's, that's okay too,
I guess. Right. So as a young cab Henry, which you've been in a sprint car for a long time,
but maybe growing up in those earlier years, who was, who was the sprint car driver you idolized
or wanted to be like? Um, the guys I looked up to were, um, like Paul McMahon, Joey Saldana.
Those are like the two that really stick out. Um, Jason Myers was actually like one of my
favorites. Um, you know, those years when he won the two title titles back to back, um, you know,
kind of, I, I feel like David versus Goliath isn't right because his team was really well funded
also, but just to, to do what he did was so cool. Um, I remember when we, Zach and I were doing the
All-Star deal, um, going to, I think it was I 70 maybe and you know, there was some people, you
know, there was some traveling cars there and it was early on when Corey day was coming out
and everybody's talking about Corey day and I was more all struck that Jason Myers was there.
And I was like, that's Jason Myers. Like that's the guy. I was, to me, that was, that was like
the guy. So that was, those are the guys I looked up to. Um, being honest, I wasn't, I wasn't around
in the years that, you know, the Steve and Sammy years, like those years, I wasn't, I was doing
the go cart things and road course racing and stuff like that. So I didn't see that stuff. Um,
but I, getting to meet those guys later on, it was cool. Um, Steve's a, Steve's a really good guy.
I know Sammy catches a lot of hate, but like I'm a huge Sammy fan too. He always treated me right.
He was always nice to me. Um, you know, but the guys I, you know, I was racing against and looked
up to you were definitely like Paul and Joey. Yeah. What was it like when you got to, you know,
run them side by side, uh, on the racetrack as, as an adult.
It was, it was cool. Um, you know, definitely a little bit of starstruck. Um,
I got to race with Paul a lot doing the all star years when he was kind of doing like the 45 car
and stuff. So I got to know Paul and Paul's a really, really good guy. Um, and so Joey, um,
I got to, I didn't race with Joey a whole lot other than like the handful outlaw shows I would
run. Um, but that last year he was running the Jamie Miller six car. I actually got to know Joey
and we actually had a run in at one of the tracks and it was like,
at the time it wasn't funny. I was really mad that I got crashed by Joey of all people. Um,
but then like we talked about it later and you know, he apologized to me and,
and it was just kind of funny to hear him like, you know, talk about it. And it was,
you know, it was cool. You know, one of those guys that you looked up to walk down and said,
Hey man, I'm really sorry. You were right. Right. So it showed that they were human also and that
they understood and that was a cool moment for me. Yeah. So speaking of young racers, I know
Zach's got a little guy, your crew chief. Um, yeah, a couple of years ago I was helping my
buddy and the kid carts and, and Zach's boy was racing and, uh, you know, there's, there's
a little uncle cap there helping him get his helmet on and holding his participation trophy
after the race. And, uh, yeah, you're obviously racing, uh, the mini sprint stuff, but, uh,
like I said, you and Zach, uh, you go back a ways and, uh, you're kind of there for each other,
uh, no matter the occasion. Yeah. I mean, that's the other thing. So like Zach and I are friends
away from the race track too. Um, you know, we were actually talking about this the other day
that like his little boy, Caden, he, he was born the year that Zach started helping me. So he
doesn't, he doesn't know that like there was times that there was, you know, it wasn't Captain Zach.
Um, and they're the Caden and Zach and Dana, um, and their youngest one now Quinn. I'm pretty
proud of myself that I remembered her name finally. Um, you know, like they're, they're really good
friends of Aaron's and I's, um, we're very close. Um, you know, we, we like to go support, um,
you know, Zach and Caden as much as we can. Um, I think this past Sunday is the first time I
missed one of his races in a long time, but yeah, you know, it's, it's fun and, um, Zach was a really
good go kart racer in his own right. Um, so to me, that's the fun part of it is to just kind of
watch and get to take pictures that, you know, they can remember later on. Um, you know, everybody
thinks that I'm there to coach Caden and that's not the case at all. I'm just there to support.
Um, you know, Zach was a really, really good go kart racer. So he, he knows and he's really good
coach and Caden and every now and then it's fun to kind of pick on Zach and go hit,
you know, go, Hey, you're kind of acting like your dad a little bit, like what's going on.
He'll kind of lighten up and realize, you know, what's happening. So it makes it fun.
Um, but yeah, it's, it's fun to have that relationship. Um, and it, to me, it makes
the racing side of it easy. Um, because we don't, we communicate well, you know, we,
you know, talk almost every day. Um, you know, so it makes it easy like Zach and I
through all these years, we've really only ever had, you know,
23 times were probably mad at each other at the racetrack. Um, and we resolved it pretty
quick. Um, you know, and that kind of goes to why the, why everything works as well as it does.
And both of you guys are, are pretty quiet too. It's, it's funny when you say,
you know, to a stranger, right? Like if I walked up to you, you'd say, hi, you'd be gent, you'd
be kind and cordial, but um, and if you're in the zone, you're definitely probably a little more
quiet and Zach's kind of a quiet guy too. But, uh, you know, I feel like you guys probably are
like me and my friends where we're on the phone for hours and our wives are looking at us,
telling us to shut up and hang it up. Oh yeah. Like, and we're both kind of the same in that
aspect that we're both quiet individuals. Like I'm not the type, like if I'll, you know, fans
come off, I'll talk to them, be nice, but like I'm just not, I'm a little bit socially awkward.
So I, like I struggle to have like a long conversation. Um, but then with my friends,
like, you know, we joke in, you know, people get my sarcastic sense of humor and, you know,
it's, it's fun. And yeah, Zach, I mean, there's so many times I'm sure each one to punch me and
kill me, but it's pretty mutual. Yeah, you mentioned go-karts. That's one thing I've
always liked about you. It's, you kind of don't know where cap's going to pop up racing,
whether it be in a sprint car. I know maybe not as of late, but years past, it wasn't uncommon to
see a strap into a go-kart somewhere. I guess, you know, you're bouncing around in go-kart tracks
lately. Um, guys, probably a month ago, maybe a couple weeks ago, at least I did run a race
at Fremont Raceway Park, um, ran the L two O six senior class and, um, you know, another deal.
A guy has really nice equipment. They lets me run Greg Burr. Um, you know, we picked up the
win there. Um, and that was fun. Um, to me, that stuff, I don't take it. I take it serious
because I want to do well, but it's my relaxation time. Um, you know, so to go there and to go to
a track that I've ran since I was a little, little kid and win it, it's fun to me. Um, but
yeah, I do enjoy going and doing that stuff. Well, another thing you, uh, you race and get
that's a slot cars. Yeah. Um, actually I've got, I've got a slot car group chat that I'm in and
that I, you know, I don't obviously only race half the year. Um, but talk to these guys all
the time and I love it. Um, I don't race as much as I used to. Um, but it's so, it's so much fun.
Um, something, another thing, you know, done it since I was a little kid and just really enjoy
it. Um, used to be more heavily involved. You know, I'd build cars and send them all over the country.
Um, now I don't really do it as much as because I just don't, I don't have the time to do it.
Um, but yeah, when I do get to go race, it's fun and yeah, it's always, it's always a blast.
Yeah. And I got the pleasure of this past winter to spend, well, I was just dropping something
off to you and it seemed like, uh, you know, I hung out there probably at least an hour or two
and it was cool hanging out with you and just seeing that and, uh, how much fun, you know,
everybody was having, you know, and like you said, uh, um, that was pretty cool time.
It's a really cool hobby. Um, it's definitely one of those things that it's hard to get kids
into it. Um, because, and I mean, even adults, it's worked. Um, you know, it is a, a scaled down
form of motor sports. Um, but if you want to be good at it, you got to put in the time and the
effort to learn and figure it out. Um, so that's hard. You know, we live in a society where there's
a lot of instant gratification, um, is what's wanted. Um, and you know, it's not, it's definitely
not as popular as it was, you know, before COVID, um, before COVID it was much bigger and now it's
not. Um, but I think it's, it's back on the upward trajectory. Um, but yeah, it's, it's a
super fun thing to do. And usually people are like, you know, they're like, man, I didn't really
know that this many people did it. Um, and it's cool to see it happen. Um, so yeah.
Yeah, we, uh, so we're against it. You're sitting in the air conditioner, air conditioning,
Zach's probably ready to come out and yell at you. So we got to let you go. Uh, but this
weekend, definitely about time. I'm sure he's annoyed already. Well, this weekend is a fan
appreciation night at Attica. So, uh, do you have anything or be handing out or, or, uh, got
something for the kids when they come in the pits and say hello? Um, I, you know, to be honest,
we haven't planned that far ahead, but we will have something. Um, but we will have like all our
new t-shirts, hoodies, hats and all that stuff, the trailer to available for purchase. Um, but
yeah, I definitely want people to come down and say hi, get some pictures. You know, all the fun
stuff. All right. Well, cap Henry, thank you very much for joining us. We appreciate it.
Hopefully the year continues full of success and, uh, yeah, we'll catch you at a racetrack near,
near and soon, I'm sure. All right. Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. Yep. Thank you.
