But something that would push a vehicle in my fleet to another level because I have a beater Honda Civic that has a warped head.
So it overheats if I drive it longer than three miles.
So I found an engine donor that with this engine, the value of my car would go way up.
And the car just happens to be hilarious.

So, I opened up Wednesday on my lunch break.
I was bored.
You know, I had already made videos for my channel this week.
I had the podcast edited.
I had videos for my friend's channel done.
So nothing productive to do.
Eating some chili, open marketplace.
And there it says just an engine picture.
K24 five speed swap.
So K24 is a newer Honda four cylinder and it is the very high potential engine.
A lot of the drag Honda's run a K series.
Okay.
A lot of parts availability, a lot of power potential.
Sure.
My engine's a 1.6.
So this is significantly more displacement.
The one you put them.
This is a 2.4 or 2.4.
Sorry.
You probably didn't say that.

No, I don't know if I did.
I said, well, I guess I said K24.
So I'm going from 1.6 to 2.4.
This car's a five speed.
The things are all ass.
The nice thing about a donor car is you get like every little neck neck you need.
I got the full harness to pull.
I'm going to probably try to put this gauge cluster in my car.

So it's really easy to do.
So the hardest thing are going to be I'm going to need the mount kit.
Not a big deal.
A little over a hundred bucks on eBay for a, for like a Chinese mount kit.
And then you need a header, but this car actually came with a header and a full
stainless exhaust.
So I have it.
I have no idea why a four door accord with steel wheels has a full stainless
exhaust.
Oh my God.
That's so good.
So the guy had to listen for a thousand bucks.
It was like, it was just a dollars on that four door accord.
Oh dude, there's stickers all over the back window.
Somebody spent money on it.
It used to have a wing.
It's fast then.
It's fast.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Had a double din pioneer stereo in it, which I found in the car, like the
interior is all ripped apart.
So the car, the car got smashed up or whatever.
And then they, I think the person that bought the car that I got it from, he
bought it, you know, in its current condition as an engine donor.
And that's just, but I think they also had an accord because like the steering
wheels brown, a bunch of the interior panels are missing a bunch more just left
in the car.
Yeah.
So they've been just like stealing and robbing from it.
The whole interior was ripped up.
It didn't run when I picked it up.
I spent the afternoon picking around at it because it would not, it just
wouldn't crank.
No crank.
Not like a crank nose start.
It was a no crank.
And then I found some cobbled wire to a relay and hook that up.
And then suddenly fired right up.
But the radiator hoses back on.
Got the radiator filled.
Up with some hose water for just the driving it around the neighborhood.
And then my son and I went and did some burnouts with it.
It doesn't mean burnout.
I believe it.
So factory, that engine has 60 more horsepower than my engine.
That's sweet.
That's a lot when you're considering that my civic has a hundred horsepower.

That's a lot out here.
That's a lot.
So and then my civic is a 98 and then.
Oh, it's like a old school kind of one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
This is an O five.
It's just a terrible car.
I don't know why anybody put any money in it, but it works out for me.
So with the stainless header on it, even if I need to adapt it a little bit to
clear my subframe or whatever, I've got to take welder.
So.
Easy peasy, right?
That's just metal.

And then it's got a full stainless exhaust.
So I can just do whatever I have to modify that to fit under my civic.
And then I would assume there's going to be extra because it's a four door
accord that'd be longer than my civic.
I guess I haven't really parked them next to each other, but I should be able
to make something work.

I would think so.
I would suspect you could really scavenge the most, the majority of it,
you know, yeah, if I got to get a little stainless, it's not the end of the
world.

before I get ready to tear it apart and take some videos of it today.
And then I think I might even bring the truck jumps out and then hit the
jumps in this accord.

And, and, you know, high, high, you know, 100 horsepower.
High engine on does what you're saying.
How's your week been going?
Not too bad.
Got a bunch of different stuff done and just.
A lot of different like touching not, not every car,
but most every car, you know, trying to get different stuff done.
A couple of days working underneath the dash of the 66 Mustang.
Kind of wrecked my body.
We got a lot of stuff done.
The fuel pedal figured out the clutch and the brake pedal shortened
because of the height of the chassis and it shortens the well.
So you got to shorten our pedals.
So I got that stuff shortened and welded all up.
I'm just waiting for a Clevis, like the, the rod end piece for the master
was the wrong length.
So I have to get the right length one to hold the pedal out in the right,
in the right spot.
And the fuel pedal, that was kind of a bunch.
That was like a day of dicking around building the,
making sure everything is solid enough to even know the thrill of
everything.
And if it's going to clear that.
Electric assist steering underneath the dash of that Mustang,
because it's just, it's like 20 pounds of shit in a two pound bag.
It's a lot of, a lot of dicking around.
And then the H back system that they bought, it's all vintage air,
but they bought it for a stock, the 64 to six Mustang,
which I don't know if I would have done that,
but no, there's nothing stock about it.
When they bought it, they were, everything was stock was cut out.
So I don't know why they would have went that route.
Cause it's all custom lines.
It wants to put the AC lines in the, in the coolant lines,
like almost right over the top of the motor in the center.
And there's the engines there in a kite with a coyote in there.
So not going to work.
So nothing we're just going to go underneath the passenger fender
while or under the fender itself.
But I'm going to make all the lines and you know,
I figured out some, but I mean,
I started a list on the Mustang as far as what we need to get a
runner and it's a lot shorter than I thought it was going to be.
So that's not, not a bad thing.
It started once I made the list.
I, I found a box of some stuff that was buried and the stuff I
acquired with the car.
And there was radiator hoses in there that worked.
There's all kinds of stuff.
So I got to cross off some stuff right away.
So that was actually pretty nice.
Nice.
It's always a pleasant when the list is shorter than you expect.
Yeah. I got to the, I was like, oh,
I was getting like three quarters of the page and I'm like,
I'm running out of things.
I can't think of anything else, you know,
and overnight I thought of a couple more things.
So I wrote a couple more things down and we're getting close to the
bottom of the page, but then I started crossing stuff off.
So it's, it's scooting back up.
It'll, it'll kind of go in waves.
I think it'll go a bunch of go away and then more will come on.
Yeah.
I mean, there's definitely a gigantic portion of parts that we need to
do.
I haven't purchased for the car yet.
Like I thought there was a whole interior kit for the car,
but there, I don't have anything.
It was kind of said when I got the car that there was interior for it.
And I don't know where they have.
I have stuff for the interior, but I don't have the interior,
like a new replacement interior, like dark man,
those seat covers, stuff like that.
So I got to contact the,
the middle man guy and see if he's got anything left.
Otherwise you got to support her in a bunch of stuff,
but some of that stuff is, you know,
or too, too soon to let it sit on a shelf and open it up and then realize
it's wrong and then realize, you know, three months later.
So it's, I kind of like to buy stuff as I'm going to be using it soon.
You saw, I don't know.
Right.
Take it as we move.
Yeah. It is pretty irritating when something sits for a while and then
you realize it's wrong.
Well, even the steering, um,
the steering setup is, is, uh, was,
I think it's a flaming river in this Mustang and they buy and I did it
column, cut it up, put their electric motor on it.
And then so when I was trying to find parts for that's, uh,
there was a couple of like a couple of things I needed because I,
I got the, I didn't even get a box for it.
I got the instructions and like, here's the steering column.
So I didn't get any information.
So some of these companies, this stuff was bought when I got the car,
this stuff was bought like four years.
Uh, it was four years old.
So I'm trying to contact companies that like some of this stuff,
they don't even make anymore.
So it's really kind of, uh, a weird conundrum.
I've never ran into, you know, with a car,
like all aftermarket brand new stuff,
but it's hard to be supported by a product that's,
they don't even make anymore.
You know, so.
Well, on that note though, I mean,
if this car's been years and years in the making,
I imagine the customer's got to be pleased with the progress that,
and the speed that you've been getting things done on it
compared to previous workshops.
Yeah. I mean, compared to what it was,
sometimes I think it's always like, I don't think it's ever enough,
you know, you could spend all month on it and you feel like you're
got somewhere and sometimes the customer's like, yeah,
it gets it on faster.
Like if you can, you know, it's always,
it's always going to be like that.
That's the struggle of having just me and my wife here and then
hiring in subcontractors and stuff,
which is, it just takes a little longer sometimes.
And that's kind of the way the world nowadays,
especially if you want like, you know what you,
if you find somebody where you're like, you like their work,
you know, I'm hoping that the customers are all okay with it.
They have been so far.

Yeah.
I made a couple more for the, actually be this side of the car,
the side of the car.
We're on the sale panel in the back.
I was going to cut out the piece for the A pillar to go up and
around the A pillar.

My three inches grant 90 degree grinder deal.
I can took a dump like right at five o'clock on Friday.
I'm like, I want to cut the panel out, but I knew we needed it.
I don't like hand-snipping like the inside radius.
Cause then it fucks it all up.
So I like cutting it.
That's just me.
So my grinder took a dump.
I'm like, well, it's five o'clock on a Friday screw it, you know,
but I did get some done.
So, and it was like a productive doing it once, you know,
that's always the best time when you get to build something once.
And it doesn't like, yes, this is going to work.
I can see it's going to work.
Yeah.
I get quite displeased doing things more than once.
No, no.
Especially when it's such a big elephant to chew, you know,
it's like, you want to make sure everybody you're taking is hopefully
the right bite.
At least going in the right direction, even if it's slow,
I'd want to be moving in the right direction.
Yeah, for sure.

That's why I was like, I'm not even going to attempt.
It's like my broke my grinder took a dump.
I'm like, I'm not going to just hammer this out.
I'm not going to be happy with it.
Let's just wait till this next week.
I didn't have to work one day or something like that.
It ain't a big thing.
I had some guy come in last week and asked me to build a custom aluminum
piece to fit on the part of his boat.
And I was like, cool.
I told him I was like, I can have it.
I said, what do you want for a timeline?
He's like, well, I don't want months.
And I was like, I was thinking end of next week.
And he goes, oh, perfect, right?
Sweet.
Most things are not that ahead, but especially in Florida.
But I was about 80% done of it done on it on Friday.
And he gives a call and he's like, hey, I just want to change this one
thing about it.
It's thrown all the way.
I had to look at it for a long time to figure out how much of what I had
done I could salvage and still keep the quality.
Which I was able to.
I didn't really have to throw anything away, thankfully.
But I was.
That's frustrating.
Yeah.
Take some time to process before I, because I almost just wanted to like
walk out and just throw all of it away, but.
I'm right.
Well, especially when you're trying to make it look like it was
purposely made this way.
Yes.
And you're like, no, ditch this and make it's making a different way.
And I was like, well, you just want to totally start over because
it's now you're, it looks like somebody hacked apart a different
part to make a part.
You know, yeah, I get it.
You don't want to put your name.
There was one piece that I would have would have like that needed to
be changed.
And that piece I had already like.
I had taken a piece of aluminum pipe, did a bunch of pie cuts on
the end and then brought it into a cone.
TIG welded it all up and like welded the end shut and then sanded
it by hand to make them like nice, even like bullet spear ends on
this piece.
So it slid down into a fixture on the boat.
Took the time.
Oh yeah.
Sander deated all out.
Looked nice.
The part that would need to change for what this guy wanted.
I would have had to cut off the piece that's welded to that.
And I'm like, I have made this thing so nice that went when I
welded to it, like you just have like this clean part with a
clean weld on it.
And I'm like, yeah, I'm like, I don't really want to grind that
all off and then have it like, I don't know.
It would have been a lot.
And thankfully I found a workaround, but that that was still
still of good quality.
But yeah, redoing is never my thing.
Well, some, yeah, I mean, having, having decisions being
changed halfway through the project is definitely hard.
That's been 66 mustang of the whole time, the whole time.
It's been design changes the whole way.
And even from the moment it came in, it is not like the people,
the, I should say the middle man that's helping out and the
customer seeing the work that they, that I do, they're like,
yeah, you, okay, I like what you do.
You do your thing, like make this stuff out of sheet metal.
It's like, I just was, I thought I was going to build floors
for the car, you know, that's it.
And everything else was purchased.
They had pepperglass panels for stuff.
And I just asked if, you know, if you're going to keep it for
a while, these fiberglass panels aren't really like, you're
going to have a custom car and keep it for a long time.
That's, I mean, the fiberglass and a firm bumper was like
literally three quarters of an inch thick and like super thin
in some areas.
So I mean, you can, it's just absolute junk.
So I was like, you know, you really want to go down that road
and they're like, well, make it better, make it better.
You know, so it's, it's a tough road, but it's also like, how
are you complaining about somebody loving your work?
That's not a, you know, got to be thankful for.
You're definitely grateful for the work.
I can't.
Some days it's, you're walking, you're like, God damn, there's
a lot of cars here.
It's a lot of ticking around.
Some days like today I walk in and I'm like, look any of this
place is rad.
I love it here.
Like some days I do really, really love.
That's good.
Aside from when you have to put an air cleaner on a Rochester
single barrel carb.
I don't understand how that this is something that was then
overlooked by the industry or if nobody uses single barrel
Rochester carbs with a minimum clearance, like, I don't, I
don't know what people do.
People must be making them.
I would suspect I'm not sure it's such a, such a weird
deal.
Like just cause the barrel is so, is just like a half inch
smaller than a normal single barrel carb.
So I don't think many people actually rebuild them.
If you read, if they're buying rebuilt carbs are probably
putting them on a factory setup.
So that's probably why we're running into this problems.
We are.

I don't think there's a lot of custom stuff with a single
barrel Rochester on it.
It's probably the thing.
Yeah.
All right.
I mean, I will say they look better.
I think they're going to function way better than those
super 97s.
Those super 97s, we wouldn't have had, there was like three
quarters of an inch to the top of the hood.
We couldn't fit anything on.
That's all tall.
They were with this, with this setup that the customer bought.
I should say it's a often how is there intake.
It was an intake and carburetor kit that they bought from
Speedway.
And if they sold it to them as it's a six cylinder, it's for a
six cylinder and it goes, you can put it in the 57 Chevy car or
like a Chevy truck.
Well, it's meant for a Chevy truck for the height and everything
we know.
So that's kind of a conundrum brand into I've, I've, when I got
the car, it came with the intake and stuff.
They said, this is what we want to use.
And so yeah, we've been kind of married to some of the, some of
these parts.
So is that what we're going to do?
Little pieces you were pole max, little circle pieces you were
pole maxing were for you making your own little air cleaner.
Yeah, those little, those little, honestly, I wasn't able to
bill for those or use them because I made those lower plates
thinking I could raise because the air filters I got my idea was
just to, because there's a, what a quarter inch all the way
around that I would need a spacer.
So I got like a rubber spacer with like a super 97 or a
stronger size air cleaner, right?
So it ended up working, but once I got the hood down, I'm like,
no way, like there's a hood problem, like a hood clearance
problem.
And it was about three quarters of an inch to an inch.
But there was a riser, the right where it connects to the
carb, there's like a rise about three quarters of an inch to
an inch up before it actually held the air cleaner itself.
So I'm like, well, if I make a flat plate, make a flange on the
bottom, make it right on there.
So I didn't make the flange on the bottom yet, I just cut that
plate out and flange the sides of it to hold the car, the hold
air cleaner and set it on top without cutting the hole out yet.
And it still barely hits.
I'm like, now I'm going to have to buy, because this air cleaner
was only, what is it, maybe like five inches or something is
basically just big enough to where I could set it around the
opening of the carburetor, but not enough to get clamped on the
inside.
Oh yeah.
Yeah, there's nothing on the inside.
So I could, I couldn't recess this air cleaner down.
So now I got a six inch, six and a half inch, two inch tall
filter.
So I'll remake a bottom plate for that one.
And I'll actually be able to build for that one.
But I think that that'll work.
I'm hoping I, maybe I can just use that kit bottom plate, flip
it over and then put the spacer in there potentially, but just
this quirky weird stuff that you think is going to take 20 minutes
and it's, yeah, it's rough.

Oh, I don't know.
Not a whole lot left.
We did some body work and I did some on this 75 Monte Carlo that
we have a fender bottoms were hatched previously.
I mean, by, I don't know, like in this something, some previous
paint job in its previous life, like years and years ago.
So we're trying to make the best of the bottom of the fenders.
I made a new flange to the door and stuff like that.
No, Tammy got them already and I poxied those on Thursday.
So those can go back on and get body work and stuff.
But so we're getting, getting ground there.
I got the body off the Model A so that can get blasted.
And the gas thing got back from the cleaner before we get it
blasted.
And the dude's like, it's a hundred year old thing.
This thing's like, looks like brand new inside for being a hundred
years old.
Like, well, it's good to hear.
Like, I just wanted somebody to like, I can only look so far with
a flashlight, you know, you can't really see the top side, you
know, and he had a scope so you could see the top side.
Yeah, I really want good.
So easy peasy.
They make a little Chinese scopes now that are so like Bore
scopes that are so cheap.
They just like Bluetooth to your phone or Wi-Fi.
I've seen one like a Milwaukee brand one.
I was kind of intrigued by that.
I kind of wanted to get, but yeah, I could see buying one.
It's just, I don't really have a ton of application for it every
once in a while.
I could see it, but I mean, if it's cheap enough, why not?
You know.
Yeah, my friend got one.
I think it was like under $30 and he uses it.
And slayers.
Yeah.
He Bore scopes like cylinders on like he fixes jet skis and
boats and stuff, but he uses it all the time.
So I borrowed it when I bought my Tundra.
What's in jet skis?
Those engines get the worst abuse because it's, it's either
idle or full throttle.

boat out.
I got to do a hot lap around the lakes and or whatever,
you know, headed back to the boat ramp just to blow the
thing out.
So it doesn't get all carboned up oiled up.
Oh, you're talking before about your grinder dying and
how you just, that's what you like to use for that.
I was watching some YouTube video of it's,
it's crucible coach works.
It's kind of, I followed this guy.
Yeah.
I followed this guy on Instagram cause he does like a
lot of hand forming.
He'll make, make like wide fenders or porches and stuff in
his little garage.
And I followed him for a while on Instagram.
Didn't even know he had a YouTube channel.
And then one day YouTube feeds me one of his videos.
And I was like, I know that guy, but I recognize the car.
Um, and I was watching a video of his today and it's funny,
like some of the tools he's using in his shop, I'm like,
why would you do that?
And then I'm like, well, everybody's got like a different
set of things they're comfortable with for different
projects.
And like he's using the saw and the cutoff wheel,
like all these times where I'm like, that seems like for me,
that would feel inefficient or like slow or whatever.
And I'm like, what is he doing?
And you know, but he makes amazing stuff.
So I just think it's, and then I was thinking about how,
you know, I went to work on that 55 Chevy and I just wasn't
totally sure what my friend is going to have in the shop.
And he's like, just pack whatever you're comfortable with.
And for that trip, I was like, well, I don't know what kind,
you know, how the air is going to work or what,
what fittings he's got for airlines in his shop.
So I packed my cordless four and a half inch grinders that
I've been using forever.
I mean, the one, the one, the one grinder that I cut this guy's
car open with, I paid $14 for a Walmart 16, 17 years ago.
Yeah.
And here I'm working in a job that's doing a hundred.
Everybody's got their different go-to tools for sure.
I mean, I used to cut, use a cutoff wheel like a,
like this is a straight one that's just got, you know,
the cutoff wheel on the end for like years and years and years.
And then I switched to just having one with a 90 with a cutoff
wheel. And if you have problems with a cutoff wheel,
a straight one with a 90 just straight one with,
with a cutoff wheel on the end, just switched one with a 90
because you can see what you're cutting.
You can like actually follow the line really well.
It actually works really well.
Yeah.
And your wrist is more built for holding, you know,
against that a pulling force or a pushing force.
Whereas if you've got the one that's shaped like a T,
it's always like trying to get caught pulling away.
It's always getting caught.
I don't have, I have an air saw, a little air saw and I almost,
it's maybe because I didn't start with an air saw and I never had
an air saw till later in my career that it's just never
something I'm like, Oh yeah, I have an air saw.
I can cut that.
It's just never, I don't know.
It's almost never my go to.
It's always like, Oh yeah.
And in the problem, it's all like have a problem for a day.
And you're like, Oh yeah, I have an air saw.
I can cut that with that.

I like the air soft for composites,
but not really so much for sheet metal.
They seem to really catch the middle.

It's just like a pain in the balls.

I think that's like the worst sound in the shop though,
because it's super loud, but it doesn't work great.
Like a bad, a bad air saw is like worse than a planishing hammer
all day long.

Time and labor spent to make carbon fiber or to make molds and
carbon fiber body panels for a Corvair.
And it's like, there's to me, I just see zero market there.
Like it just seems like such a big investment in time.
Some of it.
I think a guy could do that with the right car.
I don't know if a Corvair is a red car.
That's why I'm saying it like, I know they do.

Like their molds were so nice that that was the finish.
They were leaving on the car so they could bypass this body and
paint stage and just build the car and it's ready to go.
It's, that was, it seemed like a pretty cool, pretty cool deal.
But in the end, it's still like, you know, I don't know.
It's cool, but.
I guess it's no different than hand building a car, but it's like,
it's just such a weird deal.
It looks like, it looks like an old car, but it's definitely not.
You know, so it's just kit cars. It's weird. I don't know.

I like it, but it's weird.
I just think of like all the material and time to make them old to
make the part.
And I'm just like, that's so much.
There's Japanese companies that are doing like full.
Carbon skylines and Supras and stuff like that. And they're not,
yeah, they're just leaving them dry carbon. You know,
they have good jams and everything. They're not having to do body
work on them and they, they don't paint.
That's pretty loud.
So I think, you know, it's, it's possible just,
and I imagine when you have, you know, like a dry carbon,
carbon fiber weave look, you know what I mean? People are going to be
one, a little wave is not going to stand out as much because you're
not looking at like a solid black shine. You're looking at, you
know, a weave. So it's going to hide a little bit.
If you get down in the light, every carbon fiber hood that is
just raw carbon or whatever is wavy, but maybe, maybe people are
giving, you know, some grace to, you know, that it is a carbon
fiber thing. Like, I don't know.
Well, I would suspect the gel coats, not like, or whatever they use
for the outside coating, if they're clearing it or whatever.
I would suspect it's not like ultra flat sanded.
I would be leaving a little bit of peel in it just so the, so it
does, you know, maybe hide a little bit of the unevenness of the
carbon. I would suspect that would be the case, but just from what
I've seen in carbon, carbon, I mean, we put a, I put a carbon
hood on, the one shop was on a new Corvette at the time.
It was like, it was a C seven.
But yeah, it wasn't.
I agree. I mean, it looked great, but it wasn't like the nicest
nicest. This is like a showpiece.
So you're paying, you're paying for the carbon in the lightweight,
you know, right?
Yeah, I think I had a friend put the carbon fiber hood on
something and he was asking me and I've heard of other people
doing it. So what they'll do is they'll get the carbon fiber
hood and then they'll scuff it and then they will clear it
like, you know, six coats of clear and then wet sand that out
to true it up and then.
So, and then the carbon fiber hoods and like the factory clear
on them just don't have much for UV protection.
So they get pretty hazy pretty quick.
And so some people are clear.
Probably just gel coat. It probably has no UV.
Yeah, it's like a clear, some sort of clear epoxy or something
gel coat or yeah, I don't think they put anything down in the
mold. They just it's whatever they're using for that clear
carbon fiber or whatever the resin that sucks in, right?

And then he put it in a mirror finish mold and it's going to come
out shiny. So maybe you're out to do that and then Matt finish
it. Matt clear it.
It seems like the dry carbon ones are always matte.
I don't know.
I just been working on steel junk.
I don't know anything about that stuff.
I felt put a couple of carbon hoods on stuff.
That's about it. That's really all my experience with carbon
fiber.

want to rest them on them a little bit, which how do you say
rest them out on a car that's an 04, but but they've got like
if they put a ton of carbon on it, they've got down to like
carbon fiber hood prop rods.
They're like the guy, the guy, the American guy that was
there videoing it was like, I don't even feel like I'm holding
anything like.
Well, that's pretty nuts.
I mean, that's a pretty crazy expensive car already.
And then you're doing a restoration on.
I mean, it's no different than it's like most definitely a
muscle car in my eyes.
It's not an American muscle car, but it definitely is one.

I mean, I guess I haven't seen the market for it.
So it's hard for me to envision it.
But I can theoretically see that, you know, especially, I mean,
that's pretty iconic car.

and yeah, they've got to think it's a black one.

He's building one.
He bought like a, he always wanted one and the prices are outrageous.
So he bought an automatic, you know, like the cheapest one you can find,
a white automatic.
He tried doing a burnout in the video when he got it.
He couldn't even do a burnout.
Like he put,
Oh, I seen that.
I just seen that video.

You should see the car now.
Like he had it fully blasted and painted and I think it's on a,
I think it's on a rotisserie or is it on stands?

It's just not a two post lift.
He's not in a two post lift that he's building up, but I mean,
like it was full stripped blasted, painted the whole underside,
everything interior.
And he's got a K24 same motor that I've gotten that,
that the home record Honda out there and he's got a twin turbo setup on it,
which is really wacky to me because I'm like,
why do you twin turbo a four cylinder?
But I, I think there's a couple of things that happen.
YouTube builds have to stand out.
So you do something different.
You're always trying to, you're always like,
well, people have put K24s in these people have done this.
So I'm going to do a little different.
So, okay, there's that, but I think really it's a,
it's an, it's an aesthetic thing because he's got the turbos,
you know, kind of mirror image.
He's got the exhaust doing a mirror image,
like bullhorn thing and then coming down to the intercoolers.
So I think it might be a symmetry thing.
Like it, it looks neat and it's going to make boost and power.
It's just to me, I don't need symmetry.
You're almost, you could have beefed up the V six and it had been
just as much as this fucking twin turbo four cylinder.

What I told you that, that this Honda motor has potential.
I go to the drag strip and regularly see guys with these
with 1000 horsepower Honda civics with this motor in it.

Central Wisconsin doesn't have that.
You don't have 1000 horsepower on this.
I mean, they're like, I think I've seen Hondas in the sixes.
But the four cylinder.
It's pretty crazy.
I mean, that's pretty fucking fast.
They're generally like all the drive ones.
I think that are getting up that high.
I think they're in the high sixes.
Maybe I'm thinking maybe it's definitely in the seventh.
But what they do is they take a Honda CRV like the little SUV.
They're all wheel drive and then they build out the all wheel drive system
and then put like a real rear end in them.
And then they do an all wheel drive 1000 horsepower four cylinder.
They're really fast.
But when you push them that extreme, they also break a lot.
I would suspect it's just like anything.
So like when we went to FL2K, which is like, you know,
people come from all over the country for this event.
There were civics there that were competing with like R35 GTRs
and like Audi R8s and all sorts.
Well, I guess it was the all wheel drive class that the ones,
but they're going up against like $100,000 GTRs that are also,
you know, probably have $200,000 in them.
And they were competitive when they could make the whole run.
So it's like, it's like the junkyard LS version of Honda stuff.
Kind of like that's kind of what I'm seeing.

So I'm not saying it's junkyard stuff, but it's like, you know,
they'll just pull another LS out, throw their shit on it.
You know, throw their parts in them.

cheap, but you only got four of them, I guess.
But I'm sure that's probably not the stuff that's breaking.

So, so this car was listed for a thousand bucks.
I was like, oh man, I should just see if this guy will come down.
It looked like it had been up for a while.
It literally just said it was a picture of the engine bay and it
said K 24 five speed swap.
I mean, it was like a permanent chord or something like that.

So I didn't know if it was, if it was the donor car,
if they had put this in the car, like,
I didn't really know anything about it.

Is it in a car?
Well, you could see like the, the aprons in the image.
So I was like, okay.
Yeah, but sometimes, sometimes it'll take pictures and video of
it in the car and then they'll pull it and then junk the car.
I've seen that before.

And so I wasn't really sure what was up.
And then I messaged the guy and the first thing I said was,
is there any wiggle room on your price?
Cause it looked like it had been sitting there and I didn't want
to just like swap them with a low ball and he goes,
I'll do 600 if you just take the whole car.
I was like, oh, okay.
Does it run?
Or is it, can I hear it run?
And he goes, well, I can send you a video of,
of it before he goes, but there's like a bunch of interior
taken out and stuff and it won't fire up right now.
And I was like, I'll give you 450 and come on Saturday morning
or come on Saturday.
And he goes, well, you do 500 bucks.
And I was like, sure.
Okay.
So I got the whole car for $500 engine,
training, wiring, ECU, everything.
Okay.
I can buy this like now that I'll have everything and I put it
in my car, I can buy it for like $300 all every day of the week.
I can go and buy K series Hondas, like the motor like so if I
turbo this and then like blow, you know, the head off of it,
I can just go get another one for a few hundred bucks.
So look at you.
It's like, I don't know what the craziest thing is like my car,
I for me, it's over, I overpaid for it because I paid $2,300
for a Honda Civic and that sounds outrageous.
Now, if I was to take my Florida rust free five speed manual
air conditioned blows, every power window works,
interiors clean Honda Civic to Wisconsin where every single one
of them is rusted.
That might be a $5,000 car.
It's five grand, man.

Now, if I paint this car, the

If I paint this car, it has a clean interior, all the power
windows and everything work.
And I put the K series motor in it.

let's say $1,500 and nonsense paint painting and doing some odds
and ends $2,000 or whatever.

looking for that car and that the market.
There's not much out there.
It's just going to be like everything else.
You're going to see some quirky cars going for a lot of money.
And those aren't even quirky cars.
They were like, they were the generations hot rod.
If you could say that, you know, there's, I mean,
for real, you know, I mean, you live in the wasa area.
Those things are everywhere.
I mean, everybody has one had one and everybody almost all
of them were modified.
Oh yeah.
We used to hang out with a group of guys that did that.
We'd go street racing every Friday night with a group of guys
that had them.
I remember being at a gas station in wasa multiple times
that in the evening and all you hear in the background is like
10 Honda's.
Cause there's some cool side roads and what by wasa like the
really cool while Kirby side roads and shit.
It's pretty stuff that's fun to drive on.
So I can see that.
It was regular for us like on a weekend or like a Friday night
to swing over to one of our coworkers house that was in the
Honda's and he would be like, Hey, can you come over?
We're swapping the motor.
Just need a hand pull up.
We'll have everything detached by the time you get there.
And then we like go over there and like help lug this thing off
over the course support and then just like throw another one in.

And then they ask Monday with like a motor swap.
Oh, it's a single cam car.
We're putting the dual overhead cam in it and the LSD Traini.

But it's like two days.

I went to tech with a guy that he had a 90, whatever the early
90s, then it was a 92 to 95 or whatever that, that generation
was of a Civic, a tiny little hatchback.
And he had a dual overhead cam, some kind of dual overhead cam
swap.
And he was always like, I had a my S 10 with a four three in it.
It's like, that thing should be twice as fast.
The motor is twice over twice as big.
You should be twice as fast.
Let's let's race.

I'm like, dude, this is not a race car.
S 10 with a four three is not a frickin race car.
It's like apples to raspberries.
Not even the same thing.

I only bought mine.
So I had gotten a job.
I'd gotten laid off from a place for making too much money.
They'd given me raises constantly because I was producing
and I was doing things that nobody else could do.
And then one day accounting was like, Hey, we're slow.
Let's the easiest way to save money on the bottom line is to
get rid of the highest paid people.
So they made the general manager of the dealership lay me off
and then the top mechanic in the mechanic shop.
And well, you want to see a place spiral downhill fast.
Yeah.
Actually, the guy actually cried when he laid me off.
It's pretty sad to see an old, you know, 50 something year old
guy.
He's like, I don't, this doesn't make any sense, but I was
told I don't have an option, but so whatever.
So I got laid off.
I got a job that I didn't really care for, but it was paying
the bills.
And then I had found a job with potential, but it was 30 miles
away.
So I was like, I need to, I'm not going to drive my tundra.
It gets 12 miles a gallon.
So I got a, I was like, I need something that's going to be
cheap parts are cheap, gets good gas mileage.
Yep.
I'm going to get a Honda Civic.
And then there you go.
I bought one that I didn't really, I didn't want us to
get in.
You know, it's a four door, but it was in my neighborhood.
And like I said, the AC blows.
Like kid, you need, I mean, four doors makes sense.
Four doors aren't that bad.
Plus it's never going to be that cool because it's a Civic.
I went and looked at several and like it is so hard to get a
not completely cobbled.
I would suspect it's got to be one of the most cut up cars in
the world.
And it's people that, you know, these aren't guys that are
working on Porsches.
These are guys that are, you know, eBay parts are like a
stretch to buy.
And so there's connector.
They're getting their car stuff from Home Depot.
Oh yeah, dude.
There was times that I got to be driving to work and it would
start running rough and I'd pop the hood and like he had replaced
some of the like, you know, Deutsch plug connectors or like
the nice pin to connectors where he just crimped a spade on to
the wire and slid it over the pin on the sensor.
And so I'd be driving on the road.
It starts running like crap.
I pop the hood.
It's just like this wires is dangling in there.
I just like slide it back on to the like bite the spade a little
tighter, slide it back on and then, you know, it runs good
again.
So when, you know, the, the, so the headgast could
start going bad.
I'm like $40.
I can buy a head gasket kit with new head bolts for this, for
the 1.6.
So I threw that in.
It was good for six months.
Head started leaking again into, it leaks water into all four
cylinders.
It's consistent, you know, that's wild.
So you just keep the water level below the top of the engine
block and then it doesn't flood in when your engine's
cooling off.
It's not a big deal.
But I was like, man, between the wiring and this, the starter
I've broken the starter multiple times because the guy broke
one or stripped out one of the starter threaded inserts in
the transmission.
And so the starter only has one bolt holding it in.
So what happened is you get a little water in the cylinders
or like just like it would steam and you go to start it and
it have extra pressure in there and the starter would try to
turn and it would crack.
It would bust the mount off because it only had one bolt
holding it instead of turning the motor over.
So I've been welding the starter.
So it's fun.
I had two starters on another one for 30 bucks.
And then I'd weld the...
These things don't just happen to me.
No, no, no.
And so I was like, I think if I'm going to fix the Honda,
eventually I'm just going to get a whole motor swap because
if I replace the engine in the transmission, I'm not worrying
about a warp.
If I deck the head, I don't worry about the lock.
And the transmission stripped out.
I'm like, if I just do that and then do a swap,
I'll have a new wiring harness and everything.
It's the best way to go.
I just wasn't planning to do it now.
I was planning to start my kid's truck,
but I guess we got a year before he even gets his temp.
So it's not the biggest deal.
Yeah.
And hopefully in like two months this project will be
at least driving, not a year.
You know what I mean?
His truck's going to be a good year, year and a half project.
Sure.
But yeah.
Well, don't mess up the exhaust when we're jumping.
I'll try not to mess the exhaust up jumping it.
I'm not going to land on pavement.
I'm going to have it land on dirt.

It's so he's going around the central Wisconsin area.

We're taking it to SEMA.

Though his whole cell was when we got HRE signed on to do,
to do the, to remake the wheels.
Like, so you contacted a custom wheel company to make custom wheels.
That's really cool.

I didn't want, you know, 5,000 pounds or 4,600 pounds hitting
the ramp and splitting the wood because I maybe some sort of
like neck device is when you hit the ground, it's not going
to be good, dude.
I'm definitely going to do a suction cup camera inside the car
and then also have the camera with a tripod outside the car
because you need a helmet and maybe a helmet.
Maybe I should put a GoPro under the car.
Oh, maybe I should put a GoPro on the ground.
So it catches like the car pancake in when I land.
I mean, any, any added angle is going to be good because it's
not going to be as like, oh, your truck went over a jump
and it's just like, oh, it looks like you're just like floating
over this jump.
It's going to look like you're fucking jumping something.
