Normally, your steering wheel is connected to the wheels by mechanical parts. With steer-by-wire, that connection is electronic, so the car uses signals to steer instead.
Bank of Ireland is a financial company that’s teaming up with the podcast/event. That kind of partnership can be about promotions or financing for EVs.
They mention the New York International Auto Show as the place where the winners are announced. It’s a big event where automakers show off new cars and tech.
Brembo is a company that makes braking parts for cars, especially performance-oriented ones. In this episode, it’s connected to the award the Firefly won.

So world car of the year winners announced so world car of the year first of all, let's give it a bit of a context as to what is world car of the year
The mission of the world car of the year awards and it's 98 global journalists on the jury panelist to recognize reward and inspire automotive excellence leadership and innovation in a rapidly changing automotive industry on a global scale
To that end we test drive and evaluate
New or fully redesigned vehicles that are off for sale at multiple markets for more than one continent each year
Voting is determined in the world car design world luxury car world performance car world urban car
Electric vehicle and then overall car of the year full vehicle eligibility requirements
And our annual timeline can be found on the world car of the year website
Now in its 22nd year the annual world car of the year awards are the number one awards program of the world
For the 13th consecutive year in terms of media reach and analysis of the top global markets
The awards were inaugurated in 2003 and officially launched in january 2004
To reflect the reality of a global marketplace the awards are intended to complement not compete with existing national and regional car of the year programs
So for the last couple years it's been announced at the new york international auto show
It's north america's first and largest auto show in an amazing combination of new ideas technology innovation
And 1000 of the latest new cars and trucks on display
The show was owned and produced by greater new york automotive dealers association each spring in manhattan
And it happened on the first and second of april. So just last week
So we're starting off with the let's go with
the world
Car of the year and the the finals are powered by brembo brakes and we're going to start off with world luxury car
Now this is a model that we don't currently get in ireland. It is available in europe

In recognition this recognition reflects the strength of lucid's product vision and exceptional

He says that lucid gravity brings together the space and versatility of a full-side suv
With sports likes driving dynamics and refined luxury experience enabled by their proprietary technology and engineering

Should be the jury of 98 distinguished international automotive journalists and one of those are from ireland
From 33 countries selected the winning car by a secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their ongoing professional work
And the votes were tabulated by kpmg
Lucid gravity was chosen from the initial list of eight contenders from all over the world
A short list of three finalists were announced on the 3rd of march and the top three were the catalac vistic
The lucid gravity and the volvo es 90
Vehicles eligible for world luxury car must be produced in volumes of at least 5000 euros per year
Must be priced in the luxury car level of the primary market and must be on sale and at least two major markets
Which are china europe india japan korea latin america or usa and at least two separate continents within the period of first of january
2025 to the 30th of march 2026

Etc etc the top three announced were the key at pb5 the mazda 6e and the volvo es 90
So that was a second finalist spot for the volvo es 90 a car i'm driving this week

The bmw ix 3 is the 2026 world car there
It also won its category of electric car of the year
This is the second consecutive world car of the year nomination for bmw and the second world car of the year win overall
The bmw ix was named in the top three in the world's
In last year's program and the three series has previously won the 2006 world car of the year title
The bmw ix 3 also be named the world electric car of the year the total number of wards won by bmw is 11

With beginning with the invention of the automobile itself in the new eqs this claim of technology
Technological leadership can once again be experienced
Just a few months after the market launch it will become available with steer by wire the eqs
As the first german car manufacturer mercedes-benz will thus offer a production vehicle with this technology
Steer by wire technology elevates the driving experience to all new level and fundamentally transforms the interaction between human and vehicle
Precise intuitive and effortless. This is now the new generation of steering feel in the new eqs
It's a completely new feel providing a unique experience and offers a wide range of advantages in everyday driving
Driving dynamics benefits from it while maneuvering and parking becomes even easier
This is because of the effort required can be further reduced. There's no longer a need to adjust the grip on the steering wheel
undesired vibrations can cause
Caused by uneven road surfaces
Which previously transmitted to the driver via the steering wheel can now be eliminated
The tire road contact can be calculated on a model by model basis with the help of
Restoring factor forces of the steering wheel

The the new eqs now combines sportiness and comfort even more efficiently while further enhancing driver stability and lateral agility
This is because the suspension's specialist of flexibility adapted has flexibly adapted the steering ratio to different situations
Out of this is the perfect interaction with the rear axle steering at higher speeds
The rear wheels stay steer parallel to the front wheels
Ensuring reassuring stability in a safe driving experience
The new steer by wire system is already completed in over a million test kilometers on test benches
Test tracks and an overall vehicle validation and road traffic in line with high safety standards
Mercedes-benz relies on redundant system architecture in addition to high precision sensors and a powerful control units
This means that there are basically two single signal paths
This ensures that steering capability is always guaranteed even in the unlikely event of a complete failure
Lateral control is still possible. Thanks to the rear axle steering and targeted wheel specific braking intervention via the
ESP and the eqs the steer by wire system is available in a combination of all power trains
And the 10 degree rear axle steering as an alternative to the optional steer by wire system
Mercedes-benz considers continues to offer its electro mechanical steering as well
So have a look at that video over on the channel. Very interesting
normal steer by
normal steering wheel is
340 degrees. I think he said whereas the steer by wire is 170
So barely crossing your arms and at lower speeds. It is much more sensitive or as high as speeds. It's not
And then because it's steer by wire
He gave a great example of in san francisco where you have to park with your wheels turned
And when you're a steer by wire over to that means that the yoke steering wheel isn't a vertical position
But because it's there when you turn the car off it just re-centers itself and lets you allow you to get in and out
An interest in video with luke who's head of that product

But when you think about planes have been using steer by wire on their controlling paddles for decades
And not not not any major issues reported the fact that they've got redundancies and

So today we were at abitstown which is sports campus ireland and specifically we were a team ireland the olympic team
headquarters where
Fiat ireland is the official vehicle sponsor for team ireland and we got to have our first look
Long awaited
We've been it was supposed to be at the nevo electric vehicle show 2024
Didn't make the course we did have left hand drive versions at the nevo electric vehicle show last year
and just hard
poor old kieran kusick and john and the team at fiat ireland have been crying to get these
right hand drive models in and today we had
The one electric one for presta review and a number of hybrid ones
Of course with nevo we were interested in the all electric version starting off coming in at a price of 22,995
You can get it in three different trims. It's coming in one battery size
44 kilowatt hour with a wlgp of 320 kilometers the grand e panda entry level is the pop
That comes on 16 inch steel wheels black with little fiat covers right in the very middle
halogen headlamps and rear lamps
It's got the base dashboard which has a mounting for your phone. It does have the 10 inch digital cluster
But it still has a lot of safety
elements such as six airbags
It has a lane keeping assist
speed limit information driver drowsiness warning rear parking sensors
The one I was driving and you'll see the video linked in the description and it's up on the youtube channel was the icon trim
Which is their mid-level trim that still has 16 inch wheels, but it has full aero covers
led headlamps, which are the pixelated ones which are much more stylistic
Black painted exterior door mirrors covers handles and rear spoiler
and electronically adjusted
side mirrors with defrost and led turning indicators
You have an acoustic windshield in the icon rear headrests and then you also have a
10.25 inch touchscreen with wireless phone mirroring
And the speaker system is increased as well cruise control speed limiter and two usbc's charging in the front
Top trim is the La Prima and you will have known those trim levels from other fiat models
And that goes up then to a 17 inch alloy wheel skid plates with roof rails. It does really make the car look great
specific interior fabrics that has the
BAM box which is kind of a covered glove box in the front. It would bamboo as the primary
ingredient or component of the
central armrest
interior led lamp
Passenger seat with height adjustment and automatic air conditioning. It's got navigation built in
and then a number of
Parking assists such as rear parking camera. It has a wireless charger, rain sensor, etc, etc
Very good. I put up the video and I said I'm back in love. I got this feeling from the Volkswagen E-UP
It was very nice to drive and very interesting. It is the first production model with a
Charging cable built into the front grille 4.5 meters. It's mad
Now that's at 7 kilowatts. And if you remain the ac charging on the port as well as the
Front charging cable at 7 kilowatts. You can upgrade that to 11 kilowatt
But unfortunately that means that you remove and you don't have the built-in charging cable then at the via the front grill
But then the dc charging is peaked supposedly at 100 kilowatts
It is a five-seater. It has 361 liter boot
Yeah, just really good. Just stylistically as well. Looks absolutely phenomenal with the
metal pressed panda name on the side panels and the two doors and then the back it has on the bootleaded feet
It's just such funkiness on the road. Now. This is based on the same stla platform as citron et3 and opere frontera and
I was only getting comments on the video this afternoon and people were saying, do you know what?
Let's make sure that this one isn't as
What's the word? What's the word? I'm looking for the citron et3 has had a couple of issues since launch
Peak charging speeds
Etc. Etc. So we just want to make sure the panda has ironed all that out and that we get what we what they say we're going to get
And with regards to range with regards to
Operation etc. Etc. So I know it's made to a price
But I thought it was phenomenal looking car and a great
Car that we could
Really get behind and that price of starting at 22,995
And then the one I was driving the icon is just a walk of a thousand euros now the prima is 60 26
800 or something like that. So it is it is one that
um
It's still affordable if it suits the range suits you so
Looking forward to getting this for a bit of a longer time

Coming to the car racecourse on april 26th sunday and so far we have confirmed a number of different brands
We're just waiting on the final confirmations, but we have going to be having polster there ford
Fiat and jeep. So the grande panda will be in the car racecourse of your system that we're going to have kia
bmw tesla oudie schodet nissen and mg as well
So we're just waiting on one or two more to confirm these regional events are smaller in size and capacity
We can't fit all the brands in and so you can see the different logos up on the nevo website
So you have to go along register on nevo dot e if you are planning on attending on the day
Which is our limited on numbers as to the amount of people that we can get in the doors
And then also once you register you get the opportunity to book your test drive. So
