The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a type of SUV that looks unique and is built for driving on rough terrain. It was made from 2006 to 2014 and is loved by people who enjoy outdoor adventures.
Catalytic converters are parts of a car's exhaust system that help clean up the gases that come from the engine. They make the car less harmful to the environment.
A prosumer is a person who not only buys things, like car parts, but also learns how to use and understand them better. They are more involved than just regular consumers.
A front end collision is when the front part of a car hits something, like another car or a wall. It can cause serious damage to the car's structure and parts.
Front end work means fixing parts at the front of the car, like the steering and suspension. It's important for making sure the car drives safely and smoothly.
Transmission oil is a fluid that helps the car's gears work smoothly. If you see it leaking, it could mean there's a problem with the car's transmission.
The four C's are a way to think about fixing car problems. They stand for concern (what's wrong), cause (why it happened), correction (how to fix it), and confirmation (making sure it's fixed).
The engine air filter keeps dirt and dust out of the engine. If it's dirty or blocked, it can make it harder for the engine to breathe, which can cause problems.
An oil change is when you replace the old oil in your car's engine with new oil. It's important to do this regularly to keep the engine running smoothly.
Engine oil helps your car's engine run smoothly by keeping its parts lubricated. If the oil gets dirty, it can cause problems and make the engine work harder.
The maintenance reminder light is a signal on your car's dashboard that tells you when it's time to take your car for service. It helps you remember to do important things like changing the oil.
Motor oil is a liquid that helps keep your car's engine running smoothly by reducing friction between moving parts. Changing it regularly is important for keeping the engine healthy.
A tune-up is when you check and fix different parts of your car's engine to make sure it runs well. This can help improve fuel efficiency and performance.
Spark plugs are small parts in a car's engine that help start the engine by creating a small spark. They need to be changed sometimes to keep the engine running well.
The Kia Borrego is a large SUV made by Kia. It has a strong build and is designed for driving on rough terrain, making it good for off-road adventures.
Coilovers are parts of a car's suspension that help control how the car rides and handles. They can be adjusted to change how high or low the car sits.
Miles per gallon (MPG) tells you how many miles a car can go using one gallon of gas. If the MPG is lower, it means the car is using more gas than it should.
Fuel injectors are like tiny nozzles that spray fuel into the engine to help it run. They make sure the fuel mixes well with air for better performance.
The ECM is like the brain of the engine. It tells the engine how much fuel to use and when to use it to make sure the car runs well.

But if you go to our website, carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com, that is the biggest drawer for you in our toolbox.
The homepage gives you all the logos for all the businesses that are a part of car connection and car connection workshop.
And we have all the links thanks to our webmaster in the top right hand corner of our homepage.
I'll give you the short version, ccbusnet.com, just short for carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com.
So on the top right hand corner, the homepage of our website, carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com is our YouTube link, Facebook, Instagram, StevensvilleontheWeb.ca, iHeartRadio, as well as our merch store.
You can be part of our motormouth crew by purchasing some merchandise on our website safely, open the store, go in and shop, drop some things in your cart, pay for it securely online.

And that's where you will receive your new life.
There's also a campus at Total Freedom Sydney, Manitoba, Canada that's facilitated by Rick and Robin.
And I'll tell you, they have a story to tell, each one of them.
They know what addiction are all about and that is a men-only campus.
So a new life waits for you there.
When you purchase merch on our website and be part of the motormouth crew, you are helping someone to get to either one of those campuses because they turn no one down whatsoever.
When someone's struggling with an addiction, they've made that decision.
They're ready to move on, but they need the help.
You cannot do it on your own.
So that's what those campuses are for.
It's not a program.
It's where you learn how to reverse that addiction and get a brand new life.
Thank you to Crystal Ridge Dream Center for being a part of Car Connection every year for 31 years as we've just wrapped up 31 years of being on the radio with our program, Car Connection, a live call-in automotive program, 31 years, three decades.
It's crazy.
And now we're podcasting.
Now we can reach more people and I can share with you the gifts and talents that I've been given through the automotive service and repair industry and help you to get a better understanding of your automobile because when you learn the basics and the fundamentals, you're on your way.
So we have always aligned ourselves with a nonprofit, faith-based organization in the Niagara region in our own backyard that reaches out and gives those who are hurting a hand up, not a hand out, a hand up.
You know, in times when community support is crucial, Crystal Ridge Dream Center shines as a beacon of compassion and transformation located at 385 Derby Road in Crystal Beach.
They're serving men, women, children, meals, programs, love, hope, and they are changing lives one at a time.
And if you can see to it to give $10 a month to them, that makes a huge difference.
So everyone giving $10 a month, $5 a month, or doing something to be part of that community at Crystal Ridge Dream Center, they're doing what most of us can't.
So maybe we pitch in and give them a little something to help them to continue to do what they're doing.
They're feeding over 200 plus people every Tuesday and Friday out the door.
So it's really increasing the budget that they need to do and run all the programs after school programs for the kids.
There's so much there.
So take a moment to check them out on our website.
Just click on the link on their logo.
As soon as you click the logo, the link will open automatically.

We call it the hour in a coffee and you can book that with either Tony Miele or Larry Tito and sit down and get your questions answered from those who have the fruit on the tree.
As my professor always said, if somebody's giving you advice on something and they're not standing where you want to be, you should not be listening.
Smile, nod and move on.
Thank you to the Grimo Family at Niagara Block, 5,000 Montrose Road, Niagara Falls for Building Canada since 1931.
Building supplies, hardscape landscaping supplies and also they can direct you and help you to create that backyard space.
That backyard oasis where you can just kind of chaise lounge it, read a book, catch a little sun or a nap.
Yeah, it is worth it and you know, the really good landscapers, you need to start, if you want to get your oasis done in 2026, you need to get on their landscaping companies radar now and you don't want to pick just anyone to do the job.
I waited two years to get, once we built the car connection workshop here in studio, I waited two years for a company that has done and continues to do a lot of work in Niagara on the lake and their work is fantastic.
It was well worth the wait.
So let Niagara Block help you and direct you and guide you in creating your backyard space.
Total Freedom Darren Center, New York Addiction Center.
It's a campus for men and women from Canada and the US and Total Freedom Cindy Manitoba is a men only campus.
Your new life waits you there and as I mentioned already when you purchase car connection merch and be part of the motor mouth crew, you are helping those who would not be able to get to either campus to get there.
They don't turn anyone away, but every penny counts to help someone deal with addiction.
All right, let's jump into our swiggy together.
You've got your morning beverage, whatever that may be and hold it up and let's have a swiggy together.
I'll count it down three, two, one.
This is how we do it.
Ready, three, two, one.
Yeah, still drinking herbal tea.
Try to get rid of this, this winter mechanism that's been hanging on to me.
Man, anybody else out there got it?
I'm praying for you.
Yeah.
All right.
Let's jump right in.
Time goes very, very quickly.
Very quickly.
I have eight stocking stuffer fuel saving tips.
That's right.
So I'm going to stuff your Christmas stocking with eight fuel saving tips that will help you a great deal.
Some of them you can just put your time in and do it yourself.
And others you may have to have your automotive service technician take care of it for you, but you'll see in a minute.
Well, a few minutes, you'll see a total.
So here's how it works.
This is where your skippy is going to need to take the crayons and the brown leaf bag and unfold it and take notes.
Because each one of these fuel saving tips that I'm going to give you comes with a point value.
And that point value is actually miles per gallon.
All right, I'm not converting it to kilometers.
You know, metric system is the tool of the devil.
That's for sure cost me a fortune back when bought most of my tools and had most of my tools before I became an apprentice.
And then the metric system comes in and I had to buy the same socket, same wrenches, but all in metric cost me $40,000.
And I was an apprentice making like at that time I was making pretty good money at $16 an hour back in the early 80s.
That was good money back then.
Today it's chump change.
Really is $20 bills like 99 cents.
Anybody notice that you go to the dollar store.
Yeah, we're going to have to do something about that.
Something in my mind is if we got a couple of contestants together and worked with a dollar store.
If we gave you a minute and a half, could you go into the dollar store and come back out with three items a dollar?
Could you?
Could you think you could do it?
Locate those components, grab them and get out of the store before the stopwatch hits a minute and a half.
I think that would be an excellent video.
We might have to work on that.
We'll work on that.
And just a reminder, if you have not like, subscribed, shared, followed and ring the bell notification bell to be part of our YouTube channel.
I don't know what's holding you back because there you are going to see and learn all the basic fundamentals of owning and operating an automobile and no excuses.
You're too tall, you're too wide, you're vertically challenged, you're old, you're young.
You don't need to think about these things.
Well, if you have a car and you want to save money and you want to keep that car as long as you can and you don't want to make car payments and pay interest to the bank and be in partnership for five, six, seven years, then listen up.
You're always going to learn five things in every single one of our videos.
What the component is, where it is, how it works, how it breaks, and what could you have known ahead of time to prevent those breakages from happening, which will save you thousands of dollars in needless repairs.
So in other words, things you could have avoided that are costing you your wallet.
And so all the basic fundamentals, it's not difficult to understand the way I break it down for you.
And the more you know and understand about your automobile, the more respect you will begin to give it.
You know what, I have two vehicles, one heading for 400,000 kilometers, another one just over 300.
How does that happen?
And they're not maintenance free, trust me.
Absolutely not.
I mean the 2007 FJ Cruiser, I'm going to have to be replacing the catalytic converters on both sides of the engine and it's quite a job and it comes with a pretty good price tag to do so.
But it has to get done.
And then we're losing cat efficiency.
Yeah, catalytic converter, not a Cadillac converter, see that's different.
That's something else.
Yeah, Cadillac converter, it's a catalytic converter and I have four of them on that beast.
Yeah, so anyways, my vehicles are not maintenance free.
I can do the labor, but I still got to buy parts and that's, in this day and age and this economy, getting parts and sourcing parts has been quite a challenge.
It really, really has.
I found some resources where I can hunt stuff up, but beyond that, if they can't help me, it's got to search the interwebs.
So our YouTube videos will also teach you the four C's of making sure that when you drop your vehicle off for repairs and service, you, the consumer, I'm trying to turn you into a prosumer, not a consumer.
Because the more you know, the more dangerous you are in preventing getting ripped off out there in the automotive service industry, because it is a jungle out there.
And many years ago, we did, we did a video where I went with an undercover police officer into Toronto car shopping to some of these corner car lots.
The crap we heard and caught on video from these fellas.
In fact, the last car we road tested, I looked at it and I could see that the air conditioning condenser had been replaced, the radiator support had been replaced.
The radiator itself had been replaced.
And I said, no, was this car had a front end collision? Oh, no. No, no, no, has never been hit.
Really? Yeah.
So then we take it for a road test with one of their sales guys. We're in downtown Toronto.
This thing when we set off was just pounding in the front end. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
And I said to the salesman, I go, did you guys do some front end work on here?
Oh, no, I don't think so. This thing is as tight as a whip.
We turn a corner and all we heard was bang and the car stopped moving.
So I carefully got out of the car. I was on the passenger front and look, there's transmission oil all over the roadway.
And I see the axle shaft is broken.
And I said to my cohort, I said, we might as well walk because this thing is done.
It isn't going another inch. Cars are honking, traffic's backing up, major intersection.
We got the guy pushed around the corner and then we walked back to get our own vehicle and get out of there.
So the four C's concern, cause, correction, confirmation.
When I closed my shop in 2001, yes, 2001, and I went to work for a major European car manufacturer,
I had to learn those four C's myself.
And I also inputted warranty for the manufacturer on automobiles, stuff covered on a warranty.
If the four C's were not covered, the warranty claim got rejected.
So I teach you the four C's in all of our YouTube videos as well.
So it's a great way for you to pull that drawer open on our toolbox and get subscribed and watch the videos.
Put a comment in there. All those little things help us to grow our channel.
Same with our podcast here.
Sharing us with your family and your friends and listening to our podcasts and re-listing
and being a part of our car connection community will help us and drive us and keep us rolling
into a brand new year that's only a few days away, 2026.
We've only been at that's now a couple of months now for YouTube.
And I think I'm like six weeks in on podcasting and I'm enjoying it a lot more because we can do a program every single day,
Monday through Saturday instead of one hour every Saturday.
And we're limited as to the audience that we can connect with.
And that's the whole thing.
Car connection has always been about the word connect.
Connecting and community.
So be a part of the community and push us into 2026 so we can get monetized because the whole vision of everything we've been doing.
And I didn't need to start all this when we call it car connection next generation 2.0.
So I feel I'm not done yet reaching as many people as I can.
I am fully licensed and maintain my status.
My automotive service and repair status for light truck and auto commercial vehicles as well as diesels, heavy trucks and coaches.
That's my tag.
And so you coming alongside us helping us to get monetized will help our vision to come true,
which is to help the widows, the orphans, the single moms, seniors and those who are just a family trying to keep food on the table.
And the car is a collector's piece pretty much help them to keep it going by paying for the parts and providing labor.
You can't do it for everyone, but we can do it for someone.
And the more monetization we get, the more we can do.
And that's where we can create some amazing videos as well, all at the same time.
So that is our program vision as we head into 2026.
That's what spark does to create our YouTube channel, which is under dial motor mouth Jenkins.
Facebook Instagram. Thank you to Skippy, my videographer for putting all that together and she monitors it and she puts reels up there and create some really cool videos.
You will not see anywhere else.
She built a website called Stevensville on the web.ca and has built a profile page there for us.
My pops lives there has lived there 42 plus years and I love the business owners there.
It's a quaint little town that has so much going for it.
Shopping, eating eateries.
Safari is there.
Niagara Safari or Safari Niagara.
I've always known it as Zeus because that's what the name of it was when it started decades ago.
But what a great place and right now they have the Christmas lights on and I have a ticket to get there and do the drive through the zoo with all beautiful Christmas lights on.
And I hear so many good things about it so I'm getting a chance to do that this year.
So before year end, I'll get a chance to do that.
Maybe we'll take some video from the car and show you what that's all about.
So we're also got our I heart radio going anywhere you're pulling your podcasts from type in car connection workshop and we will pop up there.
You'll find us.
Well, without any further ado number one this morning, you got your skippy going with the crayons good.
Now you're going to need to write down under each one of these fuel saving tips.
The total numbers of miles per gallon that you are going to waste, not save waste.
And then at the end, if we get through them all today great if we don't we'll do a part to that's not a problem.
So you add up your miles at the end of all eight fuel saving tips you're going to add up your miles per gallon that you have and are losing on your automobile you're going to be shocked.
How fast this adds up so you got to know a little bit about your present service and repair on your vehicles at this point.
Okay, number one, a dirty air filter.
The engine can use more than 10,000 gallons of air for every gallon of fuel burn so it's easy to see how important the air filter that is the engine air filter not the cabin air filter engine air filter.
Is you can see how important that is imagine this.
Maybe as kids you did this just for fun was, you know, your brother or sister you're playing around and they put a pillow over your face.
Hard to breathe isn't it.
That's what your engine feels when the air filter engine air filter is plugged up.
So again, the engine can use more than 10,000 gallons of air for every gallon of fuel burn so it's easy to see how important the air filter engine air filter is in the air filter should be checked at every oil change and I will say this.
Some of these make some models and manufacturers.
I don't know what the engineers smoked or or drank, but to get to some of the engineer filters is a project, but it needs to be checked.
So a dirty air filter here you go your first miles per gallon lost.
This is fuel, a clean engineer filter is going to gain you fuel economy.
A dirty air filter is going to cost you up to two miles per gallon.
So write that down.
That's number one dirty engine oil dirty engine oils causes friction.
And you've got to remember, if you have a service reminder light, they are set way too far off in the distance for me.
Now, I'm not changing my oil at that factory interval.
I'm changing it way before that because this is what I know.
There's no monitoring system to tell by the computer to tell you, hey, your motor oil is getting dirty.
There's particles in it, carbons, things that are killing your engine.
Only that stupid maintenance reminder light that might as well come on at once a year.
Yeah, that doesn't work for me.
Engines are expensive.
Motor oil and filters are cheaper, far cheaper than replacing an engine.
So this one's huge as well.
Dirty engine oil causes friction in the internal engine parts reducing efficiency.
You ready?
The penalty is up to one mile per gallon.
All right, number three, tune ups.
We're going to be talking about that in the new year as well.
Yes, yes, and yes, your vehicle, regardless of what Mr. Salesman tells you that this is maintenance free.
Oh, you won't have to do that for 150,000 miles.
I would love to have a sales guy in our workshop and I pick something really nasty like a V8 powered Ford F-150
where the motor is put in with a shoehorn and have them get the spark plugs out at 200,000 kilometers.
And there's a couple of videos this past summer I did.
Oh, I can't remember now.
I did a couple of vehicles.
One was a 2010 Dodge Caravan.
The plugs have been in there for 260,000 kilometers.
And I worked at it very diligently and with patience and actually going to the person's house and lubricating the spark plugs
a couple times ahead of time to get them to loosen off so I could get them out without snapping them off.
So anyways, that's another topic.
But those videos are posted on our YouTube channel.
There's another one, 2010.
You may have not heard of this particular vehicle, a Kia Burego.
It's a behemoth of a four-wheel drive.
And I was really impressed with it.
It's got a V8 in it, a coilover plug.
And I had to change the plugs on that and thank goodness none of them broke off.
I managed with some transmission fluid to lube them, let the engine run, warm up, put some more lube around the spark plugs,
and then have at it and I got them all out.
So yes, tune-ups.
We're going to be talking about what tune-ups look like on your automobiles of today.
Yes, yes, and yes, we do tune them up.
It's a different strategy, but they still need to be tuned up.
So it's worn spark plugs.
So when the sales guy says, oh, no, oh, you don't have to change those.
They're good for 150,000 K.
That's when you say, I'll be calling you to come and get them out if you can.
And snap one off means you're pulling the engine down.
You didn't save anything.
So worn spark plugs, when a spark plug wears out, it can cause any efficient combustion resulting in wasteful fuel.
Well said.
Absolutely 100%.
The thing may, you push the button or crank the ignition and it starts and you think everything's happy.
No, there's worn components.
The problem with today's vehicles is this.
And this is the part that sucks when it comes to saving you money on maintenance.
They can appear to be running really, really well because a computer can mask problems while you're driving.
It makes adjustments to air fuel mixture and idle while you are driving.
So as components become worn out in the fuel and electrical system, your primary and secondary ignition,
the computer can hide and mask the problem till it can't.
And that's where it costs you big money because when the money light comes on, the service light comes on,
that means you pushed it too far without any preventative maintenance and things are now coming to a head.
So worn spark plugs will put a lot of pressure on other ignition system components like coil over plug
and we'll talk about all that early in 2026, what tuneups look like and why they're important
and how that's costing you a lot of money.
And when that money light comes on, it can cost a lot of money or a little money.
So worn spark plugs will cost you a miles per gallon penalty of up to two miles per gallon.
Okay, and I'm going to give you one more and we'll finish the rest in the next episode, which I will do tomorrow.
Tomorrow, Christmas Day. Yeah, I'll give you four more.
Fill your stocking with fuel saving tips tomorrow.
So we'll finish the second we'll do this is episode one of it tomorrow be episode two.
So join me at 8am for motor mounts morning drive.
Hopefully you're not morning driving.
You're sleeping in and having an extra cup of Joe or whatever fuel filter.
If your vehicle is equipped with an external fuel filter and we'll talk about that as well.
That's part of tune up.
Because a fella told me when I bought the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser used pre owned one one owner
and thank you to my producer at ESPN at the time, Matt Sanfilippo great guy.
We worked together for 12 and a half years.
Amazing producer.
He found that truck in Canada.
And we're at ESPN in the US broadcasting car connection.
And I was getting discouraged because I couldn't find one.
And I had a budget that my certified financial planner gave me and said, don't call me.
Tony Miele says, don't call me more.
Don't know not for $5 more, not a dollar more.
If you're putting this deal together, you got to get the money out of your vehicle that you're selling enough to get you into that other vehicle.
And Matt found the FJ Cruiser was way out in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Actually, it was on Wolf Island is where it is.
You can Google that quite interesting.
So I was told, you know, and that never needs a fuel filter.
Well, that has an intake fuel filter and it plugged up and it burnt out the fuel pump a month after I owned it.
There's another backstory to that as well.
So if your vehicle is equipped with an external fuel filter, it's not just a fuel filter.
It actually purifies the fuel.
And yes, we have a video, a YouTube video up on our channel showing you what happens and what comes out of the fuel filter.
You'll be shocked when you see it.
You'll be shocked and odd, perhaps.
Because the filter, it purifies the fuel and takes out particles .0001 microns.
Google that, how teeny weeny that is.
There's a series of screens in a fuel filter that capture different sized particles and it purifies the fuel because gasoline, it's a filthy pig.
Absolutely.
When I used to see the commercials, oh, our fuel is clean.
No, it's not.
You see what comes out of a fuel filter?
No, it's not.
Yeah.
Yeah, just saying.
So anyways, a dirty fuel filter allows impurities like dirt and rust into the fuel system causing the engine to use more fuel.
And how does that happen?
I'll explain that.
Then I'll give you the miles per gallon penalty and we'll wrap this thing up for today.
When the fuel filter becomes restricted, you will not even notice that you're pressing on the accelerator pedal further down than you normally would to get that vehicle to take off and run at whatever speed it is that you, you know.
There's the suggested road speed and then there's the actual.
So whatever actual speed you're driving at, you will not notice that you're at your vehicles actually losing performance because it comes on very, very gradual.
It sneaks up on you like a ninja exactly or a two year old trying to get another cookie out of the cookie jar on the counter.
They can do it.
I don't know how.
But anyways, they do it.
So the more you press the gas pedal, the more you're telling the onboard computer to open the fuel injectors, open their mouths wider like baby birds.
Mama's coming with a worm or a bug or something and their mouths come way open, right?
They're ready to accept whatever meal that is mama's got.
Well, you're telling the ECM when you're pushing further down on that accelerator pedal, feed me mama, feed me more gas, more fuel.
And you will not even notice that at all.
That you're having to press the accelerator further to get your vehicle to perform.
So plugging up restricted fuel filter robs your vehicle of performance, but also fuel economy, the penalty for a fuel filter that is not performing because it's restricted will cost you 1.5 miles per gallon.
So we're going to leave it there.
I have four more for you.
And as I just mentioned, I will share that with you Christmas Day morning.
I'll fill your stocking with four more fuel saving tips.
And then you'll get to add up the fuel penalty and see where you're at.
You'll be able to tell yourself and look at it and go, honey, we have a fuel savings problem.
Yes, we need to get on that because it's costing people thousands of dollars every year spending more fuel buying more fuel than you really need.
So this is a great way to track yourself and all eight items you could put on the calendar and track them as to when they've been taken care of.
And that's called preventative maintenance.
We'll have our car connection maintenance schedules available for you soon to be able to purchase through our online merch store, which will save you thousands and thousands of dollars and a lot less headaches.
And you follow by a car connection maintenance schedule.
It's reusable.
You clean it off.
You wipe it off.
Use a dry erase marker.
It all comes with it.
So there's no excuses.
Comes with a little instruction sheet of like three or four lines.
That's how easy it will be for you to follow your vehicle maintenance and watch and see how many kilometers you can put on your vehicle, how much longer you can keep it.
You know why?
You can keep any vehicle out there.
You could give me the nastiest vehicle out there that has pattern failure problems and I will make myself aware of what those pattern failure problems are.
And those will be the areas that I keep a close eye on.
Yeah, both eyes.
It's helpful.
So till tomorrow morning.
Keep track of your score.
You've got four more fuel saving tips for me to put in your stocking.
And we'll see you tomorrow morning at an 8am drop with our motor mouth morning drive.
So keep it under 100.
Everybody's driving like maniacs out there.
Remember peace, patience and kindness goes a long way.
Minds are elsewhere.
Yesterday I was out for a while.
Had to run a few more errands.
Christmas shopping's all done.
Thank you.
And I survived it.
It was a messy day on the road yesterday.
It was.
It was difficult.
Slush is tricky.
It can put you in the ditch in a heartbeat.
If it grabs hold of you, all of a sudden your car turns right and you're in the ditch.
Yeah, it's kind of crazy.
But anyways, I made it home, but I noticed a lot of people behind the wheel.
The switch may be on, but the light is not if you know what I'm saying.
Yeah.
So till tomorrow.
Have fun.
Happy healthy motoring.
And we'll see you in the morning.
Bye for now.
