The Jeep Wrangler is a type of SUV built for off-road driving. Some versions let you remove the doors and roof. People often talk about it because older Wranglers can be repaired and kept going for a long time.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is a pickup truck that runs on electricity instead of gasoline. Because it’s electric, it can feel quick and responsive when you accelerate. The podcast mentions it as part of the conversation about electric trucks and performance.
Stellantis is a big car company that makes brands like Jeep. Here, they’re mentioned because they had to recall a lot of vehicles due to a safety issue.
Power steering helps you turn the wheel more easily. Here, the host is talking about a version that uses an electric motor, and they say the wiring/connections can be part of the fire problem.
VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number, a unique 17-character code assigned to each vehicle. The host recommends using the VIN so the dealer can check whether your specific car is included in the recall and whether it’s been addressed.
In automotive wiring, a “plug” typically means an electrical connector that mates two harnesses. The host claims the connector and wiring to the electric steering-assist motor are involved in the fire scenario.
“Deep evaluation” means doing a real, careful check of the car. Instead of just pointing at parts, you look at whether they’re worn out or about to fail.
The “upper rad hose” is a coolant hose connected to the radiator system. It moves hot coolant, and the host is saying a good inspection checks whether parts are actually worn or failing, not just naming them.
Transmission lines are the tubes that carry transmission fluid to help the transmission work and stay cool. The host is saying you should check whether those lines are in good shape, not just notice they exist.
A “brake job” means getting your brakes serviced or repaired. It often includes replacing parts that wear out, and the host is saying the stopping problem wasn’t only the brake pads.
Ceramic brake pads are a type of brake pad material. They’re often chosen because they can be quieter and make less dust, but the host says their braking problem wasn’t fixed just by using ceramic pads.
The Nissan 200 SX is a sporty two-door car made for driving enjoyment. People talk about it when they’re restoring an older one and getting it running again. The podcast is using it as an example of a car that can be repaired and brought back.
A 2008 Nissan Rogue is a regular SUV people drive for commuting and errands. The host is saying that even if it has some problems, it can still be worth taking care of instead of giving up on it.
“Pattern failures” means the same problem keeps happening again and again. If you know what tends to break, you can fix it sooner and avoid bigger trouble later.
“Wear and tear items” are parts that slowly get worn out just from normal driving. Eventually they’ll need maintenance or replacement, like tires or other frequently-used components.
A detailing shop is a business that cleans and restores a vehicle’s interior and exterior beyond a basic wash. Detailing commonly includes deep cleaning, vacuuming, and surface treatments to improve appearance and protect materials.
LIVE
Good morning folks, you're tuned to Car Connection where the coffee is strong enough to resurrect
a dead fuel pump.
The stories are real, the wrenches never stop turning and I'm your host Nile Motormouth Jenkins
coming to you from the Car Connection workshop where the smell of fresh oil, a little elbow
grease is all part of a balanced breakfast and around here we don't just talk cars, we
live them.
Whether it's a 25 year old Jeep Wrangler getting a second chance at life or a Nissan
Rogue getting its brakes back in order or perhaps a mystery leak that's got everyone scratching
their heads and wandering around looking dazed and fully confused, this is where we roll
up our sleeves, we get it done with a little wit, little wisdom and a whole lot of fun.
Car Connection workshop isn't just about nuts, bolts and diagnostics, it's about connection.
Connection to our vehicles and to the people who drive them and to the community that keeps
Niagara rolling because when you fix a car, you're not just turning a wrench folks, we're
restoring someone's confidence, freedom and maybe, maybe even their sanity, we're here
every week Monday through Saturday helping you keep your ride safe, reliable and ready
for whatever road lies ahead. So whether your weekend wrencher, daily commuter or someone
who just wants to understand what is that strange rattle and what's that mean and
what's that gonna cost? Well welcome aboard, sticking around for shop talk, expert advice,
good laughs and maybe a shop flashback, it does happen, 44 years on the shop floor
and counting, yeah stuff happens, poo poo happens all the time, just stand around and wait for it,
but don't get any on yet, that's all I'm saying, well good morning and welcome to
questions and answers, it's a one-hour program, if you haven't got your questions in yet,
not to worry babies, MotorMouth.jnken, it's Friday, it's Fun Friday, that's where we can
let our hair down and I have lots of hair right now, I normally don't, but I've decided,
I've made the final decision by others pushing me and going, why do you always get the little
schoolboy haircut with bangs? Do you know how old you are? I go, no, I can't remember when I was
born, go it's time to lose the bangs, yeah, is that the only cut your barber can give you? I go,
I'm afraid so, so I've been growing it out, so I look kind of like a chiapet, kind of, actually I
think I look more like Conway 20, which is interesting because his name was actually
Harold Jenkins, imagine that, so that's what, if you google Conway 20, that's kind of what I look
like right now and it's got to get fixed and I'm thinking perhaps today's the day, anyhow thanks
for stopping by, that's it for now, no I'm just kidding, it's Fun Friday, this is where we can lose
it and be perfect, it's perfectly okay, so if you're in the queue for the drive-through, it's Friday,
yes, the switch could be almost turned off, so you're going to check that order
extremely well, even if they're honking behind you, just remember it's your order, not theirs,
and you're paying for it, that's what I have to say about that, so get your beverage ready,
whatever your morning beverage is, we'll have a swiggy in just a moment, and I will have a
preliminary look into weekend weather and see what's going on, see what we can anticipate in the
Niagara region on the south shores of Lake Erie, we've had some kooky weather yesterday, some heavy
wind gusts almost said goodnight to the gasbow and just put the roof on this stupid thing,
I don't know, you just roll with it, right, just roll with it, so hang in there, I do have five
things to share with you today, fun things, they're actually fun things, so let's just, you know,
let's just wipe the cobbies off, brush them off the best we can, if it's been a hard week for you,
we're praying for you, we're in your corner, we're pulling for you, hopefully you get that
major raise that you were thinking about, but I haven't seen any emails from anyone, I'm just saying,
all right, I'm just saying no emails on anyone wanting to save a hundred bucks a month on fuel
savings, not one, so am I safe to assume, and I don't like to use that word because you know what it
means, am I safe to assume that y'all are good with blowing out the big buckolas on wasting fuel,
and that you've got enough stinking, steaming piles of cash that, you know, you just, you know,
when the wheelbarrow shows up full of big bucks, you just go, yeah, just put it over there or the
other one, thanks, thank you very much, stuff doesn't, you got to take care of it all the time,
it's just overwhelming amounts of cash, I'm gonna say I don't think so,
I have a 30 day fuel savings challenge, and I'm happy to say I save more than $150 a month
on fuel, wasted fuel savings, and I can share all that with you, but you have to implement it,
so the do does, and the did is done, that's how it works, yeah, you can't have, you can't say,
honey do I look fat in this bathing suit, are my muffins ready, is that the time you don't answer
that question fellas, but a brisk sit will not get you looking good in that bathing suit this
year on the beach, beaches 2026, you got to have a plan, and then you got to implement the plan to
get the, to the desired results, so going for a brisk walk, and then swinging by Timmy Hose and
having an ice cap, and some kind of favorite goodie, just kind of erases all that effort,
I'm just saying, car repairs work the same way, so anyways we're gonna have some fun with that
this morning, and no I'm not answering that one, that question, do you think I look fat in this
bathing suit, I think I left the ignition on in the car, I got to go check that, I'll be back, never,
exactly, escape that answer, that is for sure, well our website has always been the biggest page,
the biggest page, and the biggest drawer in our toolbox, that is where you'll find
all the information so that you can connect with us, because we now have
more ways for you to watch, listen, and engage, and come and join us, so remember Q&A tomorrow,
questions in by noon, motormouth.jenkins at gmail.com, I put the email addresses
in the description boxes, I do all the titles, all the SEO, all the descriptions, and I put a lot
of nuggets in the descriptions that you probably won't pick out or even hear in our YouTube videos,
and the podcast, so if you're here in your brand new, you missed some podcasts, there's 450 videos
in our YouTube channel for you to enjoy, and it's all basic fundamentals, I'm really hungry
this morning, my stomach's like going, don't not, yeah, so I might have to sneak out, so everything's
on our homepage, all the links and logos for our program partners that make the podcast possible,
and the YouTube channel right now, and we appreciate them very, very much, because unless
we're receiving e-transfers from all of you, that means we need program partners, and we need them
quick, and we're blessed to have had four of our program partners come with us when we decided to
opt out of radio and head over into the digital, so on our homepage, all the digitals are there
for you, all the links in the top right hand corner, click on YouTube, subscribe, like, share,
follow, ring the notification bell so you don't miss any projects or repair work that we're doing,
and you're going to learn five things from every video and every podcast, five things,
what it is, where it is, how it works, how you broke it, and how you could have prevented that
and saved yourself scads of cash, and scads just means it's infinity, scads of cash, that's what
we talk about all the time, it takes scads of cash to keep a car going, no it doesn't, it doesn't
have to, mileage matters, no, mileage doesn't matter, see that's what we've all been bought,
bought with, mileage matters, maintenance doesn't matter, no, no, no, and no, times no, divided by
no, equals no, zero in any country, any language is still zero, mileage does not matter, maintenance
does, so if you're not willing to do maintenance on a vehicle that's 23 years old, guess
what, it's going to begin to become, see that ten times fast, another clunker, at some point that's
all it's going to be is another clunker, ready to go down the road and get another car alone and
keep trading time for money, I'm trying to turn that around for those who are wanting to save money
and a few bloodied knuckles all at the same time, because it is definitely possible, so youtube,
facebook, instagram, stevensvilleontheweb.ca, our skippy put that site together many years ago
to bring community and the businesses in Stevensville, know lots of people there, my pops lives there,
been there 40 something years now, can you believe that, was there even a Stevensville 40
something years ago, I don't know, possibly, we are entered into that website under the
businesses tab as professionals in the automotive field, I know, anyways, we're there and that's
where skippy posts, reels, bloopers and short videos, things that goofy things and in fact I
found a goofy thing last night, yeah I made a big mistake, I was loading shorts and I saw this
short in my phone and I remembered skippy and I recorded that on Monday and then I realized,
oh there was two shots that look almost the same and I posted them both and one was actually an
take and I actually said something I shouldn't have said, I said the word, not an F-bomb,
but the other word for poo, yeah, so I nuked it, sorry about that, anybody watch that, that was
just, that shouldn't have been there and skippy, she's gonna get two lumps in her coffee on Monday
because of that, she should have nuked that, you know, if it's not a take and it doesn't
suit a blooper, you put it in the trash can right away, so anyways, there's 242 views on that
in a comment but I got rid of it and cleaned that issue up but anyways, to see bloopers,
outtakes and reels, skippy puts those up on Facebook, Instagram and Stevensville on the web
and if you want to see me in the dunk tank on Saturday, this past Saturday, man that water
was stinking cold, yeah, I lost count at how many times I went in when I got to 26, so I started
to shiver somewhere around 28 and that was when they called it and said my helper said Rick, so
thank you to Rick for that, watching out for my health zone, he said you're done and he turned
some people away, said no, he's done, he's done, he can't go in, he's showing signs of possible
entering into the hypothermia zone, so yeah, it's good to have somebody watch your back,
it was a lot of fun, it was for community and firefighters creating funds that pour back
into the community playgrounds and facilities and stuff for the kids and whatnot, so it was
all for good, it was really all for good, so if you want to see me in the dunk tank and my
milky white legs, they're not so bad now, I have got some sun on since last weekend and so they
don't glow in the dark as much, but you can see that on Stevensville on the web and on the Facebook,
Facebook page, so if you want to meet our program partners, I want to thank all of you that are
supporting them by giving them your business, thank you so, so much, that means a great deal
to us because we not only need them right now, but we also need you too, so everyone's important in
this thing that we've launched and we move forward, so let's have our morning beverage
this morning and by all means let our program partners know that and any of the recommended
businesses online with us because we're rebuilding our car connection business network, we had a
great network going Canada and US till you know the C19 whatever that was thing tore us apart,
we lost 50% of everything I spent 26 years working hard for and it was great to see businesses
doing business with each other, B2B, that was amazing and we lost that, but we're working it
back and building it back better, faster, faster than lightning, light speeds, I've heard that
somewhere before, so thanks to them the program partners let them know that we sent you and
you're in good hands, so this morning's podcast being brought to you by Kathy Dave and Dan Grimo
at Niagara Block 5000 Montrose Road Niagara Falls, they've been building Canada since 1931
with all kinds of building supplies, they make blocks every block known to mankind, they make
them right there on site since 1931 and you know what's cool is they built and designed all the
equipment themselves to do that since 1931, I really respect that because it's to see how they
do it is absolutely, it's outstanding, but if you're looking to create that beautiful backyard
space that you want to hang out in, they have all the hardscape landscaping materials including
they could make you an English walkway as well, we have one of those here and it's beautiful and
it still looks beautiful, it was done back in 2012-2014, it's great to have space that you can
have a party, a get together with your friends or just hang out on your own or with family,
they can help you accomplish all of that at Niagara Block 5000 Montrose Road Niagara Falls,
click on their link, their logo, all you have to do is put your cursor on their logo and a box shows
up, click, you'll find their profile page, all profile pages are set up the same so for ease of
navigation, so if you need a contractor to do some projects, building projects for you, contact
Kathy Grimo in the front office, that's Dave's wife, she has a list of contractors that you can
trust to estimate, put together the project, start it and finish it and you'll be happy with
the results, so let's dive into our morning beverage, thank you to our Louise Grant,
City Auto Sales and Leasing, providing us with low mileage, top quality vehicles at fair prices,
I'll tell you they're outstandingly gorgeous, they don't even look like they've been on the road,
but Earl's Fussy, they've been in the biz 25 plus years and they have the resources to find that
special vehicle for you, if it's out there and they don't have it and it's out there and it's
any good, Earl will get it, but if it's not any good, he's not going to bring it in just for the
sake of making the sale, so you can buy with honesty and integrity and with confidence at
City Auto Sales and Leasing, here's how we do it, if you're joining us for the first time,
it's Fun Friday, that's where we let our hair down and just be natural, 321
swiggy time, you ready, 321 I'll put a little extra ginger in there,
yeah that's nice, that could be illegal on a Fun Friday, maybe, maybe,
say thank you to Earl Louise Grant, City Auto Sales and Leasing, Greater Toronto Areas,
Premier and Pre-Owned Auto Store, great to have them with us, I was just chatting in the file the
other day, they've been with us seven years, they're in their seventh year right now and it's
a blessing to have them because I know if you go there, you're not buying another man's junk,
piece of junk, you're not getting a lipstick on a pig or a skunk in a mink coat, you can go there
and buy with confidence and with honesty and integrity, so check them out and as I mentioned
before, I know the world's hurting, I know there's a lot of people, I see it in the grocery store,
all the time that, you know, shopping carts only have a very few amount of items in there,
not like the days where it's kind of heaped over and a second one trailing behind,
that's not happening and so if you and your household is suffering financially and your
debt is piling up, get that hour in a coffee arranged with Tony Miele or Larry Teatro,
50 years experience, they work with one of the largest wealth management companies in the world,
IG Wealth Management, I've been with them over 20 plus years, Tony Miele and Larry Teatro like
my brothers from other mothers, these guys are certified financial planning professionals,
that means they understand money and how it works and how to get it working for you,
they understand the tax laws, estate planning, investment portfolios, mortgages, life insurance,
critical illness insurance, being health proxies for your kids over 18 years of age at home,
all that stuff and then some, so put your wall away, put your purse away and book
that discovery meeting, it's time for you to sit down and stop arguing with your spouse over
finances and find out what can be done to help our situation and your specific circumstances,
we call it an hour in a coffee, so don't hesitate another minute, I'm speaking from experience,
don't hesitate one more minute, so if that little voice is saying, no don't do it,
don't do it, they're gonna take all your money, no that's people that have no idea what they're
talking about and if their feet aren't standing where you need to be and want to be,
then smile, be respectful, but they don't have the answers, it's as simple as that, they don't,
so never let your neighbor tell you what's wrong with your car and go and spend money,
I've seen that create problems in neighborhoods like you wouldn't believe, well why'd you go and
do that, I don't know anything, well you just cost me 800 bucks stupid, I've heard those conversations,
so you need to talk to those who have the fruit on the tree and if they're not where you want to
be then you know what, smile nod and move on, so I did say I have five things for you today,
but only after the weather, so let me give that to you and thank you to all our program partners
for us to be able to do this, do our YouTube channel, Facebook, Instagram, all that stuff
and we're doing fundraising events right now through the summer, there's one coming up on
Father's Day, I haven't said yes to that one yet and I'm considering, but I have a lot of
mechanicals I need to do so we can shoot more videos, so we want to make sure we keep stuff fresh
for you so that you're learning the basics all the time, so no excuses, you just need to learn
the basics and then rotate the pattern just like I spoke about yesterday, I've been giving you all
my five step patterns of keeping your older automobile and I'll tell you I was researching
yesterday, Stellantis, that's Chrysler, Jeep and all the other stuff they carry, they're recalling,
thank you to the car guy, it's a great channel as well, he follows all the
campaigns going on, so in other words recalls what's going on with the manufacturers and their
bloops and blunders and the stuff that they're all eating right now, they're eating some crow
right now for putting profitability ahead of quality of workmanship and value and value,
so Stellantis having to recall 1.9 million Jeeps in the truck looking thing, I call it the scrambler
because that's what it looks like, it looks like a scrambler from the 80s, so problems with them
catching fire even when they're just parked and the vehicles off, it has to do with the
electrically, electrical assisted power steering pump which I find very amusing,
I look at that and I shake my head but anyways you should be getting from, I believe it was,
he said it was 17, 017 to 2025 model year, it should be getting a letter letting you know,
do not park it in the garage, so if you have one of those, I would get in touch with your
selling dealer and let them run your VIN number and make sure that your vehicle is either a safe
or not, but until then I would highly recommend leave it out of the garage until this thing is
taken care of properly because it has to do with the plug that goes to that electric motor,
power steering assist unit and it's wiring, catches fire and then the thing is gone because why,
what is plastic, I haven't had one person answer me on my email, what do you think is plastic
really is, I'm going to put it out there again because there's tons of plastic on your engines now,
they've removed a lot of metal and put plastic but the big problem with plastic is, it is
that, so let me know, motormouth.jankins at gmail.com, what do you think plastic actually is, well today's
weather, Friday's low will be 54, we're going to chill out today in the Niagara region after 11pm,
it's going to be 54 degrees and the high today we're going to kick in gear to 65, that's it,
between 3pm and 4pm, temperature range will feel like 48 to 60, e-gads man, what happened,
who turned the switch off, did you turn the switch off on the heater, wind is going to make it feel
a whole lot cooler than the actual temperature, so 0.05 or less, where's that greater than, hang on,
greater than 0.05 an inch, I just had to remember that from Algibre, yeah, you can remove that I
think with antibacterial, Algibre, yeah, greater than 0.05 of an inch, so half that's
what we got going on, it's going to be a whoop-de-doo Friday, so you might want to take the umbrella,
take the heavy duty one because the wind gust turned them inside out, apparently,
and not speaking from experience on that one, too much, so what do we got going on today,
get ready, get your crayons ready, you got a 16 pack of crayolas as good, and they don't taste bad,
did I say the quiet part out loud, I'm hungry, and also you need that leaf bag, that makes a great
tablet to write on, well number one this morning is we're open for, it's Fun Friday again, an open
discussion, I came out with some ideas that I thought would help you with regards to another
five-step pattern for you to rotate, and you know what, I almost blacked out writing them down,
it was like they were right on the tip of my pen this morning, number one become your best car
caregiver ever, that's what's going to put you in the driver's seat, and that's what's going to put
you in line with saving, owning a car, running an automobile, and saving money, I'm not throwing
parts at my older vehicles all the time, so just I want to make sure I clarify that, I'm not throwing
parts at it every single month, they get their evaluation just like the FJ did, last one in the
door out of four that are used every single day, they're being used for something, and sometimes
I lend them out and say here take this, and you know don't rack it, and you know bring it back,
not looking like a ruffled up sandwich bag for me, and put some gas in it, yeah you know whatever
you use, put it back in, thank you very much, they get evaluated, and deep evaluation, that means
not just looking at stuff and going yep there's the upper rad hose, oh yeah there's the transmission
lines, no checking condition, condition, you don't get the 400,000k on a maintenance free vehicle
because it doesn't exist, so you got to be brutally honest and say this is getting old, this is 400k,
that's 400k, this is 400k, and update it, upgrade it, and then you're good to hit the road,
and I'm very pleased to say the FJ now has brakes like it used to two and a half, three years ago
when I did a brake job, and everybody said well it's because of the ceramic brake pads, no it was
because of other components that were failed right out of the box at that time, so now it's great,
I can stop on a dime and get change, and that's the way it should be, it shouldn't have nothing to do
anything to do with brake pads, so become your best car caregiver ever, you need to
look at your vehicle in a different light, and that brings me to number two, view your vehicle
as a tool not a financial burden, ouch, that is the big one for me, we have vehicles that go out to
fundraisers, the kids get to have their pictures taken and the moms, mostly the moms, and they're
tools not toys, we put them together many years ago, decades ago, and when I say we it's me,
myself, and I just so you know, I don't have the massive crew here, like there's just me, myself,
and I, so it's we, I keep them maintained, Orange Crush is in the service bay right now having
some maintenance, and that one will be going out, and they're all there to help raise funds in the
fundraisers, to be part of the community, to be in support of the community fundraising events,
and help out their tools, they're not toys, and that's exactly how I view each and every one,
including my daily driver, so you've got to change that mindset, and viewing your vehicle
as a financial burden, and begin to change it immediately to view your vehicle as a tool,
not a financial burden, because when you see it as a tool, then you realize what are all the
things that you need to accomplish Monday through Friday, and here we are, Fun Friday, Monday through
Friday, if your vehicle was taken away from you today, what would your weekend look like? It
probably suck, with a capital S-U-K, and maybe with a T, sucked, how was your weekend, it sucked,
yeah exactly, what would your mindset be, if I came and took the car, took the keys, and said
that's it, you're not getting another one, you abused it, yeah, how many of you saw the Seinfeld
program where the European car specialist wouldn't let Jerry have his his Porsche back,
because he felt he was abusing it, that was funny, the show about nothing, so view your vehicle as a
tool, not a financial burden, and it may, it's just like, it's exactly owning an automobile is like
paying for insurance, may seem like an expense until you really need it, it's a wise investment,
and the best investment today, and I'll tell you right from learning from two of the best, Tony
Miele and Larry Tietro are certified financial planning professionals, and my personal financial
planners for over 20 plus years, these guys can dig you out of any hole, trust me, there's nothing
you're going to tell them that they haven't heard already in 50 years of experience combined,
they would say to you the best vehicle in the driveway for you right now based on your financial
circumstances is the one that's paid for, and watching what's going on North America wide,
people are missing payments, mortgage payments, car payments, things are being repossessed,
if you have a vehicle in your driveway and I don't care how old it is, you better start looking at it
with number two, view your vehicle as a tool, not a financial burden, because that baby can get you
out of the hole, making another payment per month is going to put you in deeper, and here's the
situation, take a look at what's going around, you know 78% of, actually I think it's higher than
that percentage, we'll check in with Tony and Larry and find out 78% of the Canadian population is
less than $200 from going into insolvency, bankruptcy, yeah it's tough out there, so we need to pull
together and not be divisive, no not be angry, it is what it is, this is my third round of one of
these things, not the first, this is my third round, the first round I was in a car loan
at 17.93%, and still an apprentice, and I got my walking papers, and there was nothing out there,
I walked a pavement for days, and that was the first time in my entire life I had to go on
employment, and when I stood in that line and got to the front and the lady barked at me like I was
some kind of piece of poopy on her shoe, I turned around I looked right at her and I said I'm out
of here, I don't need your stinking money, I'll have a job by weekend, that was middle of the week,
I was on Barton Street in Hamilton, the EI Center, and she laughed right in my face, and that got me
going, and I'll tell you that I had a job by the end of the day that day, I banged on doors,
and I went into a warehouse in Stony Creek near Green Road, yeah Greens and Graves,
in between Greens and Graves Road, and that was 1981, we were deep into a really bad recession,
and it is what it is, and I don't know why I'm sharing this with you, it just popped into my head,
but I was determined, I am not taking the dull man, that lady laughed right in my face like I was a
piece of garbage, and the way she was talking to people like they were filthy rags, was disgusting,
so I walked into a place, a warehouse, it was an automotive warehouse, and I said I'll work for
you for one week for free to prove that I'm the best employee you've never had, and he said,
what? Coming to my office, I walked out of there, I had a job next morning, and yeah,
it was history after that, until the recession broke, and then I got back into a shop, and continued
on with my apprenticeship, sent me back about a half a year or so, almost a year, I lost almost
a year in my apprenticeship, but I was in an automotive warehouse, delivering automotive parts
across Ontario, so it gave me a great opportunity to see the shop owners out there,
and that's how I scavenged a job, I got back in, and I was grateful for that position, being in,
why did I choose an automotive parts warehouse? Hello, at least I was still in the trade,
but I would have access to shop owners, so I would be able to get my foot in the door
somewhere, but earn my keep at the same time, and it worked, so here we are,
this is the third one for me, and I can say this, we all need to stick together, stop being as mad
as snakes at one another, and start being human to one another, because you can be an island,
or you can try and take this thing on yourself, but it's much easier when you have friends,
hey man, it's much easier when you have friends around you, so number three,
maintain a good attitude, that's where I was going with this, you have an older automobile,
it's bought and paid for, it's solid, it's not rusting out, you can't climb in it from outside
without opening the doors, so it's not rotted out, maintain a good attitude towards your vehicle,
it may not, listen to me, listen to me folks, it may not be your dream vehicle, who cares,
you don't need to get into a car payment to drive something to impress people, you don't even know,
and you don't even like, I've been there, and it was stupid, it was absolutely over the top,
stupid to do it, but I did it too, back in my younger days, don't get caught in that thing
called trying to keep up with the Joneses, because truly, they don't give a crap, honestly,
they don't, because they are only into themselves, so don't try and keep up and one up somebody
for what, for what, ask yourself for what, a little attention, I'll give you attention,
my boss would say that, do you want me to give you a cuff on the head,
no, not today, maybe tomorrow, let's save it up for another day, yeah, so maintain a good attitude
towards your vehicle, and number four, then you'll see its true value, to you, not to me, to you,
because that vehicle paid off is your saving grace right now, you need to clean that thing up,
vacuum it out, and get it looking super good, because number five, you need to fall in love
with your ride, right now, more so than ever, wash it, wax it, detail it inside and out,
and make it look pretty again, and fall in love with your ride, because it's your friend,
it's not your enemy, we, we are our own worst enemy when it comes to the automobile,
yeah, because this thing is more priority than the automobile, well that's where you have to create
that mindset, and that's what this podcast is all about, and our YouTube channel is teaching you,
do the little things, and watch how far that vehicle can go, can you beat me 400,000k,
can you beat me to 400,000k, I bet you you can, because you're probably doing a lot more driving
than I do, but in the day in 1996, when I hit the road to build car connection, I was gone at
six a.m. in the morning, and I didn't roll back in until 67 o'clock every night, and every
day of the week, for 11 years solid, that was my life, on the road meeting companies, pitching,
putting, putting out the pitch to be part of car connection, and that's the lane I've been carving
out for almost four and a half decades is to teach you what no one else is going to teach you out
there, is you don't have to be making trading time for money making car payments, learn to take
care of the one that you have, and you can keep it forever, pretty much, you know the FJ is going
to have a birthday on the 6th of July, it will officially be 20 years old, you
say well you're a mechanic, that has nothing to do with it, I mean that's the excuse that you might
have in your head, but I still have to buy parts, I still have to put my time in, and repair it,
I still have to do all the things that you have to have done for you on your car,
except I can do it myself, but I'm paying myself to do it when I'm not working in the studio,
I'm on the shop floor, I'm taking time away from other things that I have to catch up on
when I'm done, so there's no escaping that circle of time, it's a measure of time every single day,
it's a measure of time, and how do we spend, you know there's only 168 hours in a week,
how are we spending that 168 hours, whining and complaining or coming up with a solution
and implementing that solution, because the do does and the did is done, so I've given you five
things, a little heavy on a Friday morning, but not really, become your best car caregiver ever,
view your vehicle as a tool and not a financial burden, you can do all this, I know you can,
number three, maintain a good attitude towards your vehicle, oh what a piece of junk, you know I hear
that all the time, for many years, oh what a piece of junk, well then I go well what if I, oh okay
just give me the keys, I'll take it, oh no, watch their face change, they go well no, are you getting
rid of it, I'll buy it, no, you know what do you want for it, I'll take it off your hands,
and now you got them, because now they're realizing I really need that car, I like I,
no I can't sell it, yeah I could use the money, but no I can't sell it, and I'd make them realize,
I'd say I just made you realize how important that piece of junk is to you, because I don't see a
piece of junk, I see a car that just needs some loving, that's all it needs, it needs some loving,
like it's a people, it's a tool in your toolbox to help you accomplish the things in life, weekly,
daily, monthly, yearly, and with kids or without kids, and get stuff done, it's a tool, that's all
it is, it's a tool, number three, maintain a good attitude towards your vehicle, change it up,
yeah you need that puppy, unless you like to ride the 52-seater, used to be 46,
it sounds better a 46-seater, but anyhow, number four, see it's true value friends, it's true value,
you know, I think about people in other countries, that you know, they need very little to be happy,
and we have everything at our fingertips, and we're still not bloody happy, we're not, we're not
grateful, be grateful that you have an automobile, because others, they're footing it, or they're
bicycling it, imagine that, if you have to get on a bicycle or ride to work, every day, there's
people in other countries, that's what they do, that's their life, you've got a tool to get you
to and fro Joe, so see it's true value to you, because I see the true value on the automobiles that
I've been blessed with to take care of and be the caregiver, I see the true value in each and every
one of them, and when we go to fundraising events with these older vehicles that pay barely any
money for whatsoever, they were pretty beat up, but you know what they needed, they needed someone
to be the next caregiver and bring them back to life, just like the 2008 Nissan Rogue I'm driving
right now, that thing runs on farts and a jar of people, oh my goodness, I love it, it's amazing
on fuel, but yeah, it has its quirks, problems, pattern failures, but I'm ahead of the
game, I'm staying ahead of the game, because I see value in that, but it was almost ready to go to
the auto records, because it was parked so long and left to decay and that's what happens, but you
know if you change your mindset and see, begin to see its true value to you, as I see my own,
you don't need to go in debt, you just need to take care of it, that's all you got to do,
have some fun, you know, make it a game to clean it up, love it inside, take care of it, wash it,
vacuum it, service it, because it's your friend, it's not your enemy, and it's a piece of equipment
that's going to need pieces parts, eventually at some point, the more you drive it,
the more pieces parts it's going to need, because there's wear and tear items,
that's just it, that's it, that's the name of the game, if it's a piece of machinery,
the more you use it, the more maintenance it's going to need, unless you're willing to buy another
piece of equipment every time you got to use one, oh we got it, we got to get a new one,
that one's worn out, well did you service it, well no, did I have to, to put some money
into it, of course, you got to put money into everything, whether it's a home, it's going to
fall down around you eventually, right, exactly, so let's leave it on a good note,
fall in love with your ride again, and if you, you know what, here's the thing,
my friend Ray, he has a detailing shop here in Fort Erie, Ray's detailing, it's not a million bucks to
to get your vehicle, if you don't want to clean it up, they'll clean it up for you,
a couple hundred bucks, wash it, love it, vacuum it out, and when you go and get it, you go, wow,
that's freaking amazing, now take care of it, now it's your turn to take it from there, so if
you don't have a place to, there's, you know, if you focus on the problem and not a solution,
I can't help you, there's no one out there on the face of this planet,
and it's round, you flat earthers, it is, it's biblical, but anyways, and it's science,
here's the thing, if you don't want to do it, let someone else do it, but are you willing to pay,
that's the answer, are you willing to pay someone to do it for you, or can you do it yourself,
could you vacuum it out, could you detail it, could you watch wax it, and if you're
not in a place where you can do that, or you just don't know what to do, a couple hundred bucks can
get it cleaned up and right as rain, and now you just got to carry on, soldier, and carry on from
there, and take care of it, so till tomorrow morning, it's Q&A here in the car connection
workshop, I'll pull out three questions out of everything that you've sent me, and unpack those
questions tomorrow morning, bright and early, with another motormouth morning drive, 8am sharp,
so we'll see you then, so drive safe out there, it's Friday, people tend to tune out a little bit
behind the wheel, and they might have the radio up way too loud, and having way too much fun,
when they should be driving and staying focused, so just remember that, people are people,
and you're not them, and they're not you, it's that simple, happy healthy motoring friends,
have yourself a fantastic weekend, if I don't see, we're here from you on Q&A Saturday,
get out there, do some stuff with the kids, have fun, and you know, just take in some local
entertainment, local activities, if money's tight, there's always a picnic, find a cool spot,
take the gloves, the frisbees, and some games and stuff, and enjoy the outdoors, it won't break the
bank, but you'll have a great time and build some memories, peace, patience, and kindness,
and we'll see you tomorrow morning for another motormouth morning drive, or we'll see you bright
and early, 8am on Monday, have yourself a great weekend, keep it under 100,
and keep an eye on the other guy, bye for now.
About this episode
The Car Connection Workshop keeps it light with “Fun Friday” shop talk, then pivots into practical ways to fall back in love with your ride. The hosts debate what really matters on older vehicles—“mileage does not matter, maintenance does”—and stress thorough inspections over guessing. A big safety segment covers Stellantis recalls, including a Jeep fire risk and VIN checks. Between mindset and maintenance, the show encourages treating your car as a tool, not a financial burden, and doing small tasks like detailing to stay engaged.
In this episode 5 things .......On this Fun Friday edition of Motormouth Morning Drive, we're taking a lighter look at vehicle ownership and why our cars deserve a little more appreciation. We discuss becoming your vehicle's best caregiver, seeing your car as a tool instead of a burden, maintaining a positive attitude, recognizing its true value, and learning to show your ride a little love.
for many of us, our makes work, family commitments, errands, and adventures possible. When we focus on what our vehicles allow us to accomplish rather than what they cost, we often gain a whole new perspective.
