There's a professional radio. That's front wheel drive.
So have you got anyone you want to thank?
Just myself and now I do the after hours, gentlemen.
What would you go for? They see us in there, OK, And
because it's not a super duck, it's not automatic.
Perfection comes in the form of two letters.
A&U. Long live my Ltd.
Welcome to Car Talk. It's Chews out here in Northwest
FM. It's me, Maddie J, on line with
Mr. David Prince, Mr Scotty Doe Johnson and Mr Rob Zadai.
How are you, gentlemen? Doing good.
Thank you. Not bad.
Thank you very much. Good.
Thank you. Very good.
Good to see all you guys. We had a week off last week.
I had I had a work function for my for my students art show.
So I was unable to to do our usual commitment here on on live on radio and to our podcast listeners.
I, I, I apologise, you know, in advance, but how are you guys been? It feels like it's been an
attorney since I saw you guys. I saw I saw Robin David at at
cars and coffee, which we which we should definitely talk about highball, correct. And then Scotty, I haven't seen
in a while, but I've seen you on in in the in the main chat.
So let's crack on with some some updates.
We'll start with you, Scotty first.
How's things with you man? And what's happening with your
cars? Yeah, things have been OK.
I did see that that cars and coffee went off.
Not it. Was.
Got packed in like no time at all so that would be interesting to hear. I was there at 8.
I couldn't get in. Wash that's crazy.
So I look forward to hearing some of that updates with me.
I guess the only big one is I've got I have all the parts ready for the 31. Everything's arrived excellent.
The throw out bearing arrived, little retainer clip arrived.
Spigot Bush has arrived. Flywheel bolts have arrived.
I've got everything. Oh and the longer the longer
bolts that I grabbed from Bunnings to for the bell housing I went and grabbed those too. So should be everything.
I don't think I'm I don't think I'm missing anything from what I was reading and trying to gather info from online so that should be everything needed. Do you get the Monday before
Melbourne Cup day off? Possibly.
Usually I do, yeah. It just usually comes under, as
you know, port riding day. So, OK, OK.
Full day stretch woohoo. Yes, that's not too far away.
What are we in? We're in Week 3 and I think Week
5. So teachers know go by the week.
It doesn't matter what the day or the date is.
It's just. No, we go by weeks.
Yeah, yeah, All I know it's it's in week five.
I've. Lived that for 40 years, so I
know we'll have truly what it's like.
And it's a long a long term, I hear 11111111 weeks not not.
That we're counting, Robert. I only know it's it's the the
long weekend weekend things week 5 because I only have to plan 3 lessons for each subjects. I only have to plan 3 so oh you.
You live in the dream, Scott. You live in the dream mode.
Yeah, that's the best part. When it comes to playing,
Instead of five, I only have to do 3.
We probably should say for people that are listening from outside Victoria that we're talking about Cup Day, which is actually refers to the Melbourne Cup Day which is the first Tuesday in November. But Australia being the land of
the long weekend, anyone who will actually be able to wangle the Monday off as well tries their damnedest to to wangle it so that they have for 4/4 day weekend.
So. I've been at the school once
before where we had to come in on that Monday and I had about 8 kids in my class. They all go.
Away. Yeah, yeah, it's a long.
Weekend they don't come in on the Monday so.
Scotty, do you like, I mean for our school, we have to have a sentiment of hours of PD we've done to get to get that day off.
Do you guys have to do that as well or are you guys like pretty pretty lenient, just take it off kind of thing?
We've already done most of our PD days, you know.
You mean the ones where you get to choose what you want to do?
No, just like just we have to have a minimum of I think 6 or 7 hours we've completed by cop day to otherwise we've got to go in to work, which is which is kind of kind of, you know, Haram as as as we would say no, but no, but that's good.
We don't have that. Don't have that, no.
But I've easily done more than enough anyway, so.
Yeah, we are also joined. Can you?
Can you hear me? We can.
He's calling. In from between appointments.
So I'm gonna mate we're. About to walk out of the hotel
and I just got your email and I thought, well look, I can say hi for two minutes. How are we kids?
Edward, thanks. See you mate.
You're like, I've got a good friend who's Italian and he went to he went to Italy earlier this year and he's like, I went to spaghetti land. I'm like, wait, so you're
calling spaghetti land? Not the not the motherland.
He's like, no, it's spaghetti land.
How is how is said spaghetti land?
Well, I haven't. I haven't been to Italy yet.
I've been to countryside France, sort of outside of Nice.
We went into Monaco. For the day.
Of insane. I've never seen so many Ferraris
in my life. All Porsches.
All roses all. Bentleys it really is this fake
playground that's insane beautiful.
Like it was a lovely. It was a lovely spot, but I just
came away going. You know what, it's kind of good
for shits and giggles for a day. But I think if you lived there,
you'd go, oh God, these people are dull.
You know, it's just, it's just luxury item after luxury item.
And you just, I don't know, it gets a bit old.
Lot of I think skin too, I'm guessing.
Yeah, a lot of. Tan, yeah, a lot of tan.
And the, the, the money in those boats sitting in the harbour, you're just like, and then, but, but then countryside France, you know, you see a lot of things as David has seen in Scotland recently. You know, you're getting a lot
of little, those little Citroen vans and little Renault twingos and little tiny things that we never got.
And there's quite a lot of old cars still getting around.
You know, you do see sort of 80s stuff still on the roads, which is cool. And now we just landed in Berlin
last night. So I'm I'm keen to see what kind
of cars are around Berlin. But they've gone hire a Trabi.
You can. You can hire Trabi's in Berlin.
Yeah, like a Trabant. Yeah, that would be cool.
Yeah, we'll look into that. Anyway, we're about to go out.
I just thought I saw the link and so I'll just say a quick hello. Thanks, budding.
car I sort, you know, you sort of look through the box and you go, oh, that one's OK, that one's OK.
These are at markets and things. And. €1010.00 which is like
almost 20 bucks. Yeah, yeah.
And, and I'm like, yeah, it's not, it's not a model that I have to have. So I'm kind of like, yeah, no,
I'm not. I'm not.
I will buy model cars. There's no doubt in my mind that
I'll wait till there's, you know, bargain ones.
Or ones that I really want anyway.
Nice. And you, you're all well.
Everyone's well. Yeah.
Everyone's well, yeah. Very good.
All right, I'll, I'll leave you to do a more cohesive podcast.
I'll disappear. No worries, good to see you
mate. Enjoy.
So that was Ed's quick check in. Let me go back to you.
So we was we're finishing off with your updates so ready to go with the 31 possibly a cup day weekend gearbox install.
I might be free for a day or two, could possibly give you a chop out so. Thank you very much.
Hopefully I could. Yeah, if I can just get rid of
the other flywheel, take that off and do all those kind of little bits, and all I might need help with is just jacking it up and putting it in. Yeah.
Sync is kind of what I'm hoping and then try and do the rest of it but getting there which is good.
At least I don't have to worry about getting a roadworthy as soon as it's in, I can just drive.
It, drive it and enjoy it. Yeah, that's the main thing.
That's what I want to do. That's good mate.
That's good. Very, very good.
Rob, how are you man? Cal place with you up and and
everything else. How's the hernia?
You getting better The. Hernia is getting better.
I've been doing work when I probably shouldn't have been doing work. I was telling the boys just
before I've got a a brand new tub for a brand new Amarok, which is the top of a range tub that we fitted off all the parts onto Harley's base bottle Amarok.
So now he's got a spring load of tower gate, sports bars, tub liner, LED tail lights, the whole lot.
Nice. For the price of a, you know,
$400.00 for brand new tub, so off marketplace, yeah, it's
pretty good. Had to go all the way up to
Whoop Whoop to get it though. The other side of Frankston
somewhere. But yes, I turned that back
home, stripped it off and then put all the parts back onto his car. He got some nice Pan America
rims for it, black ones. So it looks pretty tricky now.
It looks like a a taller range car for 10,000 less.
Yeah. Yeah, So that was that not
really much this has been happening in the car front really. We're still the Harley's a 36
hasn't been finished off yet with the roof rails painted and whatnot. So I'm still trying to push this
panel beater for that, but he's still working on a on his spray roof to get that set up that that's been actually erected.
But he's putting a roof over it and whatnot, making it all watertight. So hopefully they can get stuck
into that in the SEC, Get the SEC out of the way.
Just checking the cars, keeping them on, on trickle charge, just ticking them over when I can. Just keeping them, keeping the
cars going, paying the registrations.
It is always there. Yeah, so I had to go to the club
to pay for one of the regos the other day.
Most of them come in pretty, pretty close.
So I've got four cars and club plates, so three of them coming around about December, January, Feb.
So if I wait until December, I pretty much have all three of them come in and I can just go down to the club and get them all signed. Yeah, Yeah, Apart from that, not
much. I'm looking forward to doing a
ride up to Walker and the central turbulence of NSW next month. So looking forward to that.
A lot of car, but it's still going to be fun.
It's going to be a huge motorcycle event.
So that that should be fun. And some of the best roads in
the country, the Oxley, Oxley Highway and places like that up through the central turbulence up down the Coffs Harbour.
Oh. Cool.
Nice. Should be good.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Nice David Prince.
I got back from overseas Friday a week ago now, just in time for highball. That wasn't why we came back, of
course, but it was handy. It was on the Sunday and that
that was really good. I mean, I had jet lag, so I was
up bright and early and I had a red Carver in the garage.
So I was able to take the Integra along to that.
Saw some drone footage this afternoon, actually was loaded, uploaded. I saw a drone flying around
while we were there. And that was that was very cool
to see all the cars and and all the red cars, which were the main focus of of that that particular event on the grass out the front looked fabulous from the air.
I heard stories that there were 800 cars there, which wouldn't surprise me because they they were as far as you could see in every car park. And then there were two overflow
car parks. I think one of them was where
you parked. Maddie.
Yeah, say it was pretty, pretty crazy and they've graduated to about 3 or 4 coffee trucks now, which is good because the the queues were getting longer and longer.
Then last weekend I got to drive all the cars actually that was good. Drove the N1, drove the E Accord
that's at my place presently, got the Z started first turn of the key, got a few too many in the garage at the moment and I've got 1 sitting back out in the backyard with a cover on it which I don't love but that's the way it is at the moment.
Also went on a club run on Sunday with the Honda club up to Euro for the day and I actually went with a mate who has just picked up I think we've talked about it on the podcast before but via a made of Ed's a manual Honda CRZ.
So the the 1.5 hybrid hatch from 2011.
I think he's his or 20/20/12. It might be very early count.
It was actually one of the original Honda press cars.
It's now only still only done 100 and 1400 and 15,000 KS.
But very sweet little car. Really good chassis on them and
and a really good turn in and there was some great roads.
We went up through Yarrow Glenn up to Yay, had to stop at Yay, then across to Merton and then up the back Rd to to Euro which is a great piece of Rd. So it was a very enjoyable
little drive. That we were playing cracker.
Yeah, it was fantastic. It was fantastic.
So yeah, that was good. I think that's all my updates so
far. Oh, I picked up the N1 actually.
It had been in at John Blair Automotive in Moorabbin while I was away. They did a bit of a detail but
also a service and changed the brake fluid and stuff like that because it's just hit four years old.
It's done 32,000 KS, but they just all fell about.
I noticed it changed their Facebook cover page to a photo of it. So that's cool.
That was from the the cost of that was my free, my free parking, I think paid for that. So yeah, they were, they were.
And a number of mates actually had ended up having car serviced there quite separately to that. And the service manager there,
who I've known for many, many years was excitedly would take them out and take the cover off and show them the N1 because they haven't seen the N 1. So it got a bit of a following
up there while it was there. It's a.
Very good. Hi, David Prince.
It's a very cool car. Thank you.
I'm very, very happy with it, I've decided, very happy indeed.
And this weekend just gone has marked a year and I noticed the Beta Birdwood run was on in Adelaide over the weekend, which is a run that's been going on for many years now.
I can't remember how many, but it's been an institution.
Adelaide A classic car rallied from Glenelg on the Bay up to the Birdwood Motor Museum up in the hills behind Adelaide.
And next year it's going the 40th anniversary of the Mitsubishi Magna is going to be commemorated as part of the Beta Bird Wood. Quite conveniently, the guy that
runs the Beta Bird Woods has his father's Magna that his father bought new. So if there was ever an ending
to that event, that would be be through him.
So good friend of the show Andrew Rooglesworth has got some work ahead of it. But we'll, we'll help him and
it'll be a brilliant event, I hope.
You got to be epic. Yeah, I think that's me for now,
for this week. Nice mate, thanks for me.
So today was going to be a good day and said everything is kind of falling apart but that's OK, it's just Carl's.
That was just me. But anyway, so I got a call on
Monday, yesterday camp will be ready to be picked up with the roadworthy. Today I was like, oh, great,
exciting, super, super happy. So go, I'm all happy.
Last night. I get a call mid afternoon
before I went to go get it. It's he's like, he's like, I
don't know. I don't know why I had it
running perfectly and now it's it's, it's carrying on and it's not happy. He's like just Roadworthy's
done. It's I've got it all ready to
go. He's like, just just give me,
just give me another day that I wanted to make sure it's running properly before I give it to you.
Because we've just gotten it back from getting approved at the Roadworthy place and now it's deciding to to not be happy. I'm like, great.
He's like, it's weird because he's like, I've driven it and it's been fine and now it's just, yeah, not been happy.
Sorry. Yeah, yeah.
So that's that's that's that's a bit of a bummer.
Second thing was yesterday I put in the second hand gearbox I got from The Wreckers because the differential in my laser's gearbox decided it didn't want to play ball anymore.
The gearbox was fine but just the the differential was pushing the drive shaft in and out in and out like that and it was just keep making it not not be well.
So gearbox feels fine. It's in the car, but it feels
like I've got hardened engine mounts in it now like it's just 1st to 2nd gear. Just the whole car's vibrating
and it wasn't doing that when I picked it up and now it's doing it and I'm from freaking out because I give up.
I've just spent all this money to get it installed because I took it out myself. It was fine and they test drove
it. It was drove fine.
I drove it home, it was fine and today 1st to 2nd gear feel like the whole car's going to the engine's going to fall out of the out of the out of the car. And I'm like, well, that's not
good. So I just I can't win at the
moment with this car. I've it's just one thing after
another and I'm starting to get a little bit upset.
And then I noticed someone packed into it into the rear bar, which has just been painted.
So I'm also annoyed about that. So I'm just not having a having
a great, great go with it to be. So I don't know what I'm going
to do most. Weeks aren't like this, Mehdi.
Most weeks aren't like this. Most weeks aren't, but I'm just,
I'm just kind of frustrated because it's, it's been, I've replaced the drive shaft and that's been done.
And then then we found out that it was the gearbox that was, that was still because like, like it's still not right.
Took it back and then they put up on the hoist, you know, ran the car and saw the, you know, the, the, the, the, the drive shaft going in and out in and out and you know, got it got it diagnosed by a few people and they all said get differential in the gearboxes had it, which is annoying.
I mean it's OK because I, I can buy alsd for it and put it in and it should be fine. So I kept the original gear, I
kept that gearbox out of it, but annoying that I put another one in it and it was fine for all of 24 hours.
And in my drive to the station, it's just been, yeah, violently shaking 1st and 2nd gear, just like just like just just vibrating like it's, it's it's just a weird, weird feeling.
So yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do.
I'm not, not impressed. Yeah.
Not happy. And what else have, what other
cars have I done? I haven't really driven
anything. I, you know, sorry.
I just think I drove the MR2 on Saturday.
That was, that was actually nice to do that the first time I'd driven it in almost four months. So I just put the battery on.
Didn't I didn't, I kept the immobiliser off and just cranked it. So, you know, it built some oil
pressure before I before I, you know, put some, put some fuel in it. It's just for the, you know, the
oil pressure, you know, gauge move up and then started it after after that started to move because it had some, you had some oil in it that's still leaking also like that.
That's my next. That's my next kind of big job
because I know the motor's going to have to probably come out of that one. But yeah, I'm just not winning
with cars at the moment, the guys.
So I have to, I have to see how what I can do.
Still can't sell Steph's car. I've I've had her in a few
different places and I'm trying to do one of those online things. And yeah, even they don't seem
to want it. So it's, it's, yeah, not not
ideal, but you know, it'll, it'll, it'll get better.
I'm sure once I figure out what's going on with, with the laser, I feel, I will feel, I will feel a lot better.
I know I need new tyres for it because they're, they're starting to get super noisy and they're, they're pretty worn and they're like, I was, I was, I was happy because I was tidying up. I was like, oh, I can get a new
set of wheels for it. And you know, and, and yeah, put
something, put something a bit different.
I was looking at BBSLMS or RPF ones.
And, and now I'm just kind of like, I don't care what this car fixed and, or I'm going to get rid of it, but I'm like, I can't get rid of it. It's the car I've had the
longest and now I'm just. Yeah, well, just take that off
the off the off the table, Maddie.
That's not going to happen. Just frustrated, I think, I
think I'm just, I think I just want my car fixed.
And look, it's not the mechanic's fault.
Like they they did it perfectly fine.
Like it, you know, as it drove, it's, it's driven it, it drove fine yesterday and you know, I'm turning in today and I, I put down around a corner. I'm not hard or anything just to
accelerate out of a corner. And I just felt like it was in
second gear And though it was like I felt like the whole friend and grumble. I'm like, Oh no.
And then I tried it again and it happened and I'm like, ah, so yeah, I'm going to take it back tomorrow and see how we go and say I just want, I don't want to back thoughts fixed.
So yeah, not not having the best luck.
I just feel bad because like, like the, the, you know, so not my normal mechanic's been really busy.
He's been working on the scamp and, and he's finished it and, and then to, for them to, for that to happen.
And my other mechanic who's, you know, great guy, you know, done nothing wrong. I just feel like I keep busting
his backside and, you know, about this car.
So I think he wants it as gone as much as I do.
Yeah, I will hopefully have it somewhat fixed.
I'm just, I just hope it's not anything more sinister.
And if the gearbox is somehow faulty and failed, I'm, yeah, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'm in a bit of strife.
So yeah, we'll, we'll, we'll see how we go.
We'll see how we go. It happens to to everyone.
You're going to go through that horrible phase like I did with both of my cars. Yeah.
Actually, the 31, I was like, Nah, it's ridiculous.
I'm done. I want to get rid of it.
But I think what helped is just stepping away for a bit.
Yeah, and I don't mean stepping away for like weeks or anything, just just a day, really. Day.
Step back, take a breather and then go back.
Yeah, yeah. I might, I might pull the drive
shaft out of it because I, I put the one in that was in the gearbox in the wrecked car. You know, I was like, you know,
it's coming out of the car. You know, I'll try that with it
and you know, because that'll, that'll negate any issues.
And like I had AI had a look underneath it.
I jacked it up. I had a quick look and
everything seemed fine. You know, underneath there I was
playing with things and yeah, I don't, I don't know, did.
The Carrie came out. I've had any damage, body
damage. On the in the rear, it wasn't it
wasn't anything in the front. So yeah, don't know, don't know.
Quite frustrated. Yeah.
So I want to thank Chad for that as well.
So Chad helped me take that, take that gearbox out.
So yeah, big thanks to him. Could it?
Could it be the drive shaft from the from the wrecked one?
I mean, that's, that's, that's like I'm, you know, praying that's worst case scenario, because if it is, I've got a, I've got a brand new one, I'll recode one.
I can just wax straight and back into it and it'll be fine.
Best. Case scenario, isn't it?
Yeah, sorry, best case. Yeah.
But I'm hoping that that I'm hoping that is the worst case scenario or if it's not like something loose or something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because if it is the gearbox, it's, you know, it's another crap tonne of money to get to get pulled out and done again.
And I just, I'm kind of bleeding money and I don't want to spend any more money on it. And yeah, it's just a bit
frustrating, which is weird because like the rest of the car is perfect. Like it's been driving so well.
And you know, Chad drove the early, he's like, dude, this isn't such a tight car for its case.
And he was singing its praises and stuff.
And he's like, I want to get the ski box issue sorted.
You know, this, this, this, this, this situation, You'll, you'll be sorted and get that. So did I.
That's what I thought. And driving it home yesterday, I
was like, finally it's done, you know, it feels good.
And yeah, today the the curse of this car over the last six months has has bit me again. But it's OK, It'll, it'll be OK.
We'll, we'll, we'll get to the bottom of it and hopefully this time next week we'll be having a positive, positive discussion about. Look forward to car updates next
week. Yes, yeah, because I also had a
tyre blowout as well, which I thought I mentioned in the group chat. And that was just I was like, Oh
my God, like everything, everything.
But anyway, it's OK, It's all good.
Moving on to to more happier things, Highball cars and coffee. That happened not last, not the
Sunday that happened, just happened, but the Sunday before at the Boss Centre in Clayton. Always.
It's probably the Melbourne's grand, you know, the poor, sorry, I should say Premier cars and Coffee event as it is now, it is such a massive event. No, it's huge.
I couldn't, I, I, I said I got there at 8:00 and I couldn't get a car park. Actually, I got there before I
and I kept getting sent around to different car parks and then, then, yeah, I got sent to the back car park because nobody wants a laser next to Ferraris. And, and I was just, I, it just
the, the amount of cars that were there, the amount of people that were there. I'm like, this is like I, I
didn't, I've never like, I know it's big, but this one was just nuts. I saw Rob driving you and you
and you're in Harley's car in the C63 trying, trying to get in. And yeah, I couldn't believe how
big, how big it was. It was, it was a great event.
Like it was, it was, you know, it's always well organised and, and, and the theme was, was red cars in the grass this time, which which I thought was pretty cool.
David had the tag crowd, the front almost front and centre in the on, on the in the grass. And yeah, it was, it was a
really, really cool day. I just wanted to get your
opinion on boys. I think it's inspired that they
actually, they've associated with Police Legacy to act as the charity that they they raised money for at this event.
So you've got quite a good police presence there.
And yeah, I mean, it's unlikely that it's going to be shut down from that point of view. And everyone was pretty, pretty
respectful, I think, except the Lamber guys.
They always, for, you always hear them coming from a long way away. But yeah, it was, it was very
full. It was easy.
The biggest one I've ever seen. Perfect day, actually perfect
spring morning, which always brings people out, I think.
But the amazing thing is, you know, like there are spaces that sort of from 9:30 to 10:00, people have started leaving and, and more cars come in. So it's, it's just like a
revolving door. But it's always, as always, it's
the variety. The variety is just nuts of
things parked next to each other.
And when you said no one wants a Laser parked next to a Ferrari, I sort of feel a bit sorry for the guy in the McLaren that was parked next to the Toyota Sierra.
We're taking lots of photos of the Toyota Sierra, not so many of the McLaren, including me, but there's some very cool cars there. There's a really lovely Pulsar
ET Turbo. Haven't seen this for a long
long time. That was, that was an incredibly
nice example. Like you, you don't see them
that good. Like I, I can't remember the
last time I've seen anything too, but let alone one that.
Yeah. The good eye.
Yeah, the good eye. And this was very original,
still had the headlight covers, had the tartan trim, white with blue classic. You can't get a more 80s colour
scheme than white with blue interior.
The original wheels had a little body kit on it, which I think was an accessory like a special. Is it is It was an SVO.
What was the Nissan one? Scotty Sports?
Was it this I? Think it was SVR.
SVR Yeah S. VRSVDS.
VD special vehicles division. That's right.
Yeah, I think it might have been SVD, little body kitted head on.
That was really cool. There was a New beetle.
So when when you say new Beetle, New Beetles are actually old now. So they come out 1/4 of a
century here guys. You can probably put it on a
club plate if you really want, but there's there was one there that had been made into a Ute and there's a body kit you can get that turns a a New Beetle from the 2000s into a Ute.
It was really cool. I really like.
That David, you all over there were looking at that car like walking up to it. I thought it was a Chevy SSR
for. Yeah, it it looks like an SSR.
Yeah. And I'd have a double tank.
I'm like, no, that's a beetle. And it's and Dave was like, oh,
look how cool. I'm like, it is pretty cool.
Like, I mean that that generation of Beetle for me is a very uncool car because it's a golf and drag.
It's not like an original Beetle.
But that's right. That's a cool way to make it
cool, you know, like that. I reckon, I reckon, yeah.
So I thought, I thought that's definitely worth the mention.
There's an old comma van. I don't know if anyone else saw
the old comma van that was actually on airbags and it was actually when it was dropped, you couldn't see the wheels, like the wheels just disappeared into the wheel wheel out just and of course it was dropped for the purpose of the show.
That was pretty, pretty cool. And that was parked next to a
oh, a 356 Porsche and alpha GTV. So I mean, you know, like that,
that just shows you some of the contrast in the different things that actually get parked next to each other.
Absolutely. Were they were they your
favourite of the show, David, or was there any other ones that you? Look for a bit of Euro style.
There was a lovely Mark 1G GTI in red, so it was parked on the lawn, but it was a left hooker. It was a European delivered car.
It had the original Chrome wheels, completely bog standard and original and unmodified. It was.
That was very cool to see a Mark 1G and our friend of the show David Day actually bought a Honda today along which would have to be probably the only one in Australia I reckon which was AK car from the mid 80s that under produced at 550CC.
Looks a bit like a city to the uninitiated.
Funny story with that car though, he's owned it many many years and never had it registered because he never had a import certificate for it. Like he bought it without the
import certificate, so it had never been registered in Australia before. And not long ago he picked up
another car at auction and decided it was surplus to requirements pretty quickly and sold it to a a friend of his in Queensland who probably had it trucked up to Queensland and then sent him a photo the next day of the thing registered.
And he said, how did you do that?
Like, you know, like it was not registered and there's never been registered in the country. Oh no, there's no problem up
here. You just fill out this and do
this and submit this form and boom, it was registered.
So next thing he puts the Today on it, towed it up behind his Cedric on a little Dolly to Queensland, left it with this guy and this guy got it registered for him and it's come back down. Yeah, so it's now registered in
Queensland. So now we can put it on a club
plate down here. That's unbelievable.
So so this. Where there's a will, there's a
way. So I call these poor old Cedric
towed it all the way up there. And then he's yeah, the the the
the fact that it's, it's a very, I've never seen one before.
You know, it's the seeing like I've seen pictures of them, but I've never seen one in real life.
And that was that was definitely, that was definitely an eye opener. I was like, that's remarkably
cool. I thought it was a very cool
car. A stand up for me, though, was
and I think you you even did mine.
This one, David Prince was the Econoline kind of van you.
Yeah, yeah. Did.
You see that, Rob, that, that, that Ford Econoline, the, the, the black, you know, I'll put this Robert there.
No, I didn't see it. Actually, no.
Yeah, it was very past it. It was really cool, really tidy
inside. Probably the longest ever T bar
shifter I've ever seen. Yeah, very cool.
I think that was 60s, weren't they?
Those are kind of lines, yes. Yeah.
Yeah. So usually a van, You know, you
see plenty of vans in the old American movies, but I I don't think I'd ever seen you before. Yeah.
Just so that was a that was a bit of a that was a bit of a cool, a cool pick up. Another one was a very tidy S6 S
16 Honda Integra, which which was owned by 1 David Prince, which I which I thought was was really nice.
I've driven that car. I've enjoyed that one.
That was really cool. There was an AE86 there with a
modified 4AG, but it's, you know, it had individual throttle bodies made to fit on a, on a, on a 16 valve head, which is, which is not really done. It's it's quite a very expensive
job to do because they only came on the on the 20 valve head.
So, so that was just having a look at all the engine work that he that he's done to or she's done to that, to that car.
It's got, you know, it's got big converted to coil and plug ignition and, you know, bits and pieces like that.
I was like, that would make, that would be a really fun way to make 105 horsepower, but it would be, it'd be, you know, a good time and it'd be reliable and it'd sound good with, with the individual throttle bodies. So, so yeah, that that was, that
was one of one of my, one of my picks.
And there was a, there's a lot of the Pigoda there.
The, the, the, the white, the white one with the, with the full registration. I don't know if you saw that
one. David Prince and, and yeah, that
was a really lovely, lovely car. So yeah, there's, there's a few,
there's a few different interesting things there.
We saw the more obscure things where like there was obviously the, you know, the Lorean and things, but what was some of the more obscure cars that you saw on the day?
The Diablo convertible was a bit, was a bit of like, OK, that's, that's interesting. It's a statement car, isn't it?
It's a bit of a statement car, like I'm not really kind of not a massive like Lambo fan, but it was like, that's kind of a kind of a cool thing. And then then I saw P plates on
the back of it and I was like OK, then I walked away.
What was this one that the 2:40 Hey where is it?
I I've got a blurry there. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's got the M motor in it. Yeah, I've seen that car before.
That's a that's a cool car. And that, that was pretty neat.
Yeah. But what I found was that I
think there was sensory, sensory overload.
There's too many of the same high end cars.
So, you know, you've seen one high performance performante or whatever, like, and there's three others next to it.
You go, you know. Yeah.
So he's got half $1,000,000. So what, You know, it's not like
someone's gone out there and spent time, you know, in their own, you know, sort of using some, how could I say it?
Yeah, sort of, how could I say it?
Imagination building something out of nothing, whereas you know, if you've got the money, you can go out and buy anything.
But to actually do something that's unique is what sort of really stood out to me. Yeah, I really like the the
combi that was on the on the edge of the grass.
I don't know if you saw that. I took the Peach coloured
reddish Peach with cream coloured combi.
It it, it was, it looked like a nice driver.
Just a really clean example. And you know, yeah, I mean,
that's a pricey car these days. It wasn't a Samba with all the
windows or anything. But that for me was like, Oh
yeah, that that for me is way cooler than all the, you know, all the Lambos and stuff that went there.
You know, that was like, that's a cool car.
And I can see someone spent a lot of time to get that right, you know, because it's a, you know, it's a very old car, you know, so, so the body was straight as an hour away.
It looked like it'd been loved, but but it also looked like it'd been used, which is which is awesome to see.
Yeah, well, you mentioned the DeLorean, I think.
I mean, there can't be many in Melbourne, so I don't know if it's the same one, but you see that pretty regularly at car shows and evenings and stuff like that.
But what was really cool next to it was a black Hilux.
So Hilux extra cab like like Marty.
'S, yeah. That was a really cool thing.
And then they parked them together, which I thought was a really nice little, little touch.
Yeah, that, that was cool. I I actually think that's a
cooler car than the DeLorean, to be fair, you know.
Wow. That's a big statement.
I mean, like, I mean the Deloreans are very cool, don't get me wrong, but the the highlights are just like when people when people do that model highlights in the full black with the KC lights on the top. And I'm like, Ah, yes, yes,
that, that, that is like, that's cool.
That for me is like, you know, top notch.
You know, that's a whole other topic for another podcast, probably, but isn't that the the mystique of movies, like how a movie can take 1, you know, 1 and that that that highlights was in the movie for how long? Like.
Yeah, I mean, it is that, you know, like when he when he comes out to the garage the next morning and and he why do you take your, your, your car, you know, wow.
But someone's got a lot of trouble and and done that.
But for for the generation that that movie was really important too. That's such a pivotal cut.
Absolutely. I I, yeah, For me, you know, I
guess like, you know, the, the mistake for him because like that was his dream. That's his kind of one.
He's like, oh, look at that. And the fact it wasn't like some
big like F-250 or something. It was, it was a Toyota Hilux at
the end of the year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was just like, yeah, that's, that was, that was pretty cool.
Yeah, I had AI had I had a big laugh at that.
I was like, that's yeah, that that for me was, was one of one of the picks. And and I really like how
because like for for a long time that it's always the underappreciated car of that movie.
Yeah. Because it was like, oh,
Dolorean, Dolorean, Dolorean. But but people that know it will
be, Oh, that's, that's the, you know, that's the, that's the mighty McFly. You know, we had a which which I
which I think's even even more cool because it's got that bit of mystique about it. It's got that bit of, you know,
a bit of if you know, you know about it, which is which for me is makes the cast so much more cooler.
Well that reminds me it's not highball related but Rob Rob might might relate to it. I was, went to a few years ago
and I was in the UK and went to a museum at Bewley down in the New Forest. And it was Lord Bewley's estate
and it, and all these huge British estates, they've actually had to reinvent themselves to pay the land tax basically, you know, and they, they've turned them into, they've got cafes and they've got, you know, garden walks or they've got lakes. Well, this guy put an old
monorail around the property, like in the 70s very, you know, like rickety now, but definitely still complies.
But also set up a great car museum.
And there's a, you know, an old church where you can get married on the property and lights for. So anyway, I thought, oh, you
know, this, I'll go because it's a car museum.
I walked in. There's the there's a Daimler
Benz that his great grandfather had bought new in like 1898.
So this was early 2000. So it was the 3rd century that
that car had been in the family. And then I walk a bit further in
here is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the car from the moon, and now that's a Democrat. The.
Actual car. The actual car.
The actual. Car.
What the hell? Which is a converted Rolls Royce
chassis. It started off as a Rolls Royce.
If you've ever seen the movie, it's a great movie and the car flies to literally great kids movie.
It still stands up. I watched it not long ago.
It was hilarious watching it again.
But yeah, you see, that was an iconic movie cartoon, you know, and I'll never hear it walking and seeing that.
One car I haven't seen her on the roads and around for a long time was I mentioned before was is the Bluebird TRX.
There's a way? I haven't seen one of them on a
road for years. I I think all of them are either
rusted or written off. Yeah, yeah, 100 percent, 100%
that that little sticker along the top of the guards on the above the wheels with all the little flags of the world always. Yeah.
And they had the the cool sports seats those those sort of early 80s Australian assembled in essence had some of the best seats that standard by, you know, an Australian factory.
They they were brilliant, brilliant seats in them.
They're beautiful. I.
Recall they done all right in Bathurst as well.
Well, it was a turbo Bluebird, which we're never stall here.
Yeah. So George Fury drove Turbo
Bluebird in in a lot of those events back in the day.
I remember seeing that at Sandown.
And the thing about it, they were quiet.
They were like an electric car compared to all the all the other race cars that went past this thing just went back in this with this little sail just was boiling away was what was.
It muffled. Yeah, muffled the exhaust.
There was one at the Phillip Island Classic.
Actually, one of the turbos was at Phillip Island Classic in March and it was very cool to see it again.
So were they pre Sierra's, Cosworth's, weren't they?
No, prior to that it. Would have been, yeah, yeah.
So the Bluebirds must have been about, well, the local ones released here in 82, late 81, early 82.
And then the, yeah, the Cosworth, the Sierras were I think about 8586, I think a bit later, yeah.
And then, yeah. Yeah, some great era.
And Bathurst was a bit boring this year too.
Yeah. I didn't even watch it, didn't
even see any of it. I went to a Bafa's party but we
ended up drinking and eating and talking.
We didn't even see the race. Yeah, wasn't the best.
So did you say the TRX at highball was white?
Yeah. No, I didn't say it.
I want a shame they didn't pack next to the ET that.
Would be. Yeah, that would be so.
Perfect. Yeah, that would be great.
They should do like like if you do like an 80s and a 90s section and you can like imagine like having that like they curated like with different areas of different cars that.
Yeah, yeah, that'd be awesome. That'd be so cool.
I'll be like in my wheelhouse in the 80s and 90s like, oh, this is the best. Yeah.
Did you guys see the, the RS2? The the RS2, the, you know, the
blue Audi waggon, the the Porsche.
Oh. Yes, yeah.
I've never seen one in person before.
I didn't even know we we had them in Australia.
We didn't. Yeah, Yeah.
So I was obviously a, a personal import, but that, that's a, that's a pretty special car. Apparently there's only four to
five in, in, in Australia or in Melbourne.
So, yeah, but but the, the, the, the highlights was, was, was definitely a stand out for me. That was, that was a cool, cool
car. There's, there's something for
everybody there, which is, which is pretty cool.
But you're right, Rob, it was pretty sensory overload, wasn't it? It was just so many Porsches, so
many beams, so many. There's something that burn.
But then but then out of the blue you might, you might see like that TRX or or yeah, or or that, you know that that Honda yesterday, you know, it was it was again something for everybody. And and I, I thought that was, I
thought that was pretty, pretty cool it.
Was a very cool Porsche of spider the James Dean car.
So is it? No, I'm not.
Right. Yeah, I.
Shouldn't know what what? Yeah, it's a, it's a 356 spider,
isn't it? Isn't it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was very cool.
There was one of those there, Yes.
Parked next to an FL 5 Civic Type R so very cool.
X19 Fiat X19 Yeah. That was.
One of those for a while. I did proceed to tell my mom
that her car's too common, she needs to sell it now that I saw there. And she's like, oh, OK, I guess
you think you're funny. Yeah, that was, that was quite,
that was quite funny. Yeah.
Here it is. The the speed start.
Oh, this just changed. But that wasn't there.
That was lovely. That was a really cool car.
The did you guys see the Vantage in that cherry red colour?
It's not the only accident that was there, I think.
And it was, it was, it was a bit of a, it was a bit of like a nice little little difference from all the, all the other, you know, look at me cars. It's been more understated.
And I kind of like that because I don't really see them often.
What else? I'm just trying, just trying to
I'm going through back, back through the reels to see to see what what was what was cool test.
The Ross is always cool. But so, so that deserves that
deserves its place. But the yeah, there again, there
was there was lots of there's lots of, you know, lots of everything really. But there for me were the
standouts, the old, I don't know if you saw this, this this old, the pictures. I hate when yeah, the old, the
old Lancia with the real yeah, that was that for me was a really cool car. I was like, that's I actually
like a bit of potato on a car that I agree.
And we're talking about this at work the other day.
One of the guys like, I'd like an old car with a bit of rust, but you know, I don't want it to get worse.
I'm like, what you do is you just, you put a, you put a, a clique like a matte clear coat over it as it is, preserve it and just enjoy it. And they're like, well, you can
do that. I'm like, yeah, there's, I mean,
I said people are trying now to like make their new cards look old by by putting, you know, rust and fake rust and things on them. So when a card's like that
pertained, I thought, I thought, yeah, you got to preserve it as it is. Like you can't you can't, you
know, change all that too much because it's for me, that's a that's a lot of character, especially when it's when it's that kind of that pertained. I think if it looks completely
crap, then no. But the rest of the car was
straight was all was all complete.
So yeah, that that was definitely a definitely a pick for me. Did they actually don't?
They use a special oil to sort of stop the car from rusting, but it's not actually a clear coat but and they have to oil it every year or so just to keep the from rusting, but it still keeps that patina look on the entire car.
OK. It's a special oil.
Is it because I know people use a like a like a fish oil film underneath cars but I don't think it's that for the body?
Yeah, it's slightly different. Let's look into that.
That'll be cool. Yeah, really good turn out.
As I said, like there's just so much going on.
I, I, I hopped in the car and I was like, like, what the hell?
I was kind of like, OK, I, you know, I was actually happy to, to, to leave. But a lot of the coolest cars
were in the, were in the like the overflow car parks, to be fair, like the, like the stuff that didn't get in, you know, there was, you know, that there was, there was a really clean second generation Toyota Supra. You know, that's, that's silica
Supra. And the guys like it's for sale.
Anyone want to have these windows down?
It's for sale guys. And it was super nice.
And I was like, oh, that that's yeah, that's a bit of me with flared arches and, you know, and yeah, I thought that was really, really cool. But then he wanted too much
money and then I walked away. But yeah, stuff like that.
I didn't get into into the main car park, which was which was pretty cool. Also saw a Corolla, blue Corolla
GR that had been looked like it had just been offered off a racetrack and rallied because it was all just covered in dirt.
And it had like, really, really esque wheels and like OZ racing wheels, which was pretty cool. So, yeah, people are people are
getting out and about with their cars.
And it was, it was it was a really, really cool, cool way to end that weekend. Any other ones before we move
on? Gentlemen to the quiz.
Just quickly that's one car that's been covered in that oil.
Oh yeah, Yep, it's. Christine's car.
She's part of the Mustang Club. She runs the Mustang Pony 6 St
Club. That's so cool.
So, so, So what are you showing us now is like a an old, like that's an early. Yeah, old Beetle.
So she's got that and she's got one that's Immaculate.
And and then she's got a, she's also got a, a proper, well, that's, that's her other car. And that's Immaculate.
That, that's pristine. Oh wow, yeah.
Lovely. And then on top of that, she's
got a brat. She just bought it too.
And it's beautiful really. She's built, took her months and
months to find it, but she bought actually a a combi.
Oh, don't talk about. So she's got all three of them
now she's got the the the bugged out Beetle and and the combi van and it's a brilliant looking car.
But yeah, it's again, she she she loves the beetles and she's got the Mustangs as well. Yeah, so.
So, Maddie, just, you know, putting your dream hat on for the minute combi. Which combi?
What? What's your dream combi?
I mean, I'd take either, but obviously, you know, the 1st generation comedy would be, would be for me.
Like I think it's, I think type 2 would be split screen, split screen safari pop outs. You know, I I colour, you'd have
to be something interesting. You like, like, you know, like a
like a black over red or that's a pretty cool garage.
Oh yeah, it's pretty cool. Or a, or like a like a like a
green green over gold or just just something interesting, something, something weird. Definitely 2 tone, obviously,
And I wouldn't mind if it was even a bit ratty, like, Oh, I wouldn't, you know, as long as it as you know, as long as it drove pretty well and was it looked kind of cool, But I put like, you know, racks on it. I've I've planned it out as you
can, as you can totally tell. Of course I'd have Porsche
wheels on it. Yeah, it, it, it'd be cool.
It'd be a cool combi. But that that's that's a dream
day. Oh yeah.
Yeah, that's cool. See that's a Bay window.
That's a type 3, like three. Yeah, Yep.
So you see, I'd go, that's an early one, that's an early 7071, something like that. I'd go a little later.
I'd like a like a 74 two litre in martini olive or Kalahari tan or something. Something very Japanese.
You'd buy the two litres so we could actually get out of it its own way. Well, that's the thing.
I mean, much more usable and flexible, Yeah.
Or put a Subaru engine that would, yes.
That that that is also an option.
You want the whole camper conversion you can pull up on the side of the road, have a cup of tea and.
I think I've still got the brochure and and the brochure was Hotel Volkswagen picture of the of the combi on the front.
That's very cool. Is the electric one out yet?
It is. We just don't have it here.
Yet we haven't got it here, but I saw plenty of them in the UK, but I think there's a petrol version as well.
There are a lot of like a lot of councils and that had them already. Like there are a lot of
businesses and sign were signed, written and stuff.
So yeah, very, very distinctive on the road.
But the the idea Buzz, which is the electric one, that's that that looks good because they're all in the orange or the bright yellow or the, you know, lime green or whatever with the, with the contrasting sort of stripes and paint outs as well, sort of down the side on the roof. Very cool.
It's a very cool car. Like I if anything VW has done
anything good in the last, you know, 50 years, it's that.
Yeah. So yeah, I am a I'm a fan of
that. They actually Jessica Mesa
released today a a video the icons about like, you know, telling the story about, you know, you know, VW and and how this car has needs to kind of save VW because VW is in trouble in in in in America. They're apparently maybe they
end up pulling out. There were a bit of strife,
especially after Dieselgate. They got pretty, pretty
destroyed over that. So it'd be interesting to see
what happens with with that car. But yes, well, I think it's
tough for the quiz gentlemen. Awesome.
All right, what do you got? Quiz master tonight?
How so? Scotty, thank you for doing the
quiz. Such your nails.
I got stuck in. No.
Worries now I get to talk for a bit because I didn't go to yeah the highball so I'm just like listening, going oh OK, that's pretty cool You saw this saw that I had nothing so now I get to talk. All right, so, so tell me, tell
me before, before you, before you go, Scotty, out of all the cards you mentioned, which one would be the one you'd take?
Which one would I take? ET Turbo.
ET Turbo. Act the dearest 1 and cash it
in. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Take, take one of those Lambos and then cash it in.
Then I can grab a few, a few of the ones that you talked about, then my garage for them too. Yeah.
That'd be much better, I think. So the quiz today is going to be
around some latest news and a little bit of motorsport thrown in there too. So and there's a couple bonus,
I've thrown in some bonus questions in there.
So it's not just 10 stretches out a little bit more.
So hopefully you kind of in the loop of what is happening in the car world and a little bit into some motor sport at the same time. Some of it could have been on
the news too. So not just car news might be on
the normal news. Maybe it was 23AW3A.
Dubs. Ask about which cars are you
mainly used for ram raids in tobacco stores and stuff.
Which car was running to a bicycle shop that burned down the gym bicycle shop? BM WX5 I think was the most
recent one, but that that was into a gym though.
Into the gym. The bike shop was under the gym.
The bike shop was under the gym. And then the guy.
And then they had footage of the guy running out with his arm on fire. I thought that was hilarious.
We, we had, we had four kids, 3 or 4 kids today coming to our school wanting to bash year 11 student from another school.
And so we, we, a lot of the teachers, you know, got out protected the kids and, and kicked me out.
And then they were following him to take photos to see where they were from and gifts to the cops and they all jumped into the back of a Camry. And I was like, maybe they maybe
they ordered an Uber because I don't think that Camry's a good getaway car. But but the ghetto, the the
Camry's fed away apparently so, so so Camry's are also ramrod cars. Just putting it out there
that'll. Be their mum's car.
With the DINT in the back quarter panel.
Panel, Yeah. Perfect.
Perfect fading. Fading on the roof.
Good stuff. All the good stuff.
All the good stuff. All right, Scotty, you're cool,
man. Hit us.
Up here we go. Question #1 The new 2024 MG 3
has undergone the ANCAP safety ratings.
How many stars did it receive, Matthew?
This is a this is a question. There's two parts to this
question, I believe. Is there a bonus part to this
question or you're going to? OK, so it received 3 but
received also but received 44 if it wasn't for the the intervening things going off because it probably was, was pretty bad. So.
Yeah, so, so it is technically 3 because they go by the advanced safety features. But even if that was all good,
it still would have been a four because of the impact damage that we would have on the passengers.
So it's not overly safe. Says the guys driving older cars
in on this broadcast. Yeah, same as they're still so
we choose to drive older cars and the same as people will buy MG threes. I mean, you would expect new
cars, you know, you would expect them to be safe because they're new. You would.
Driving an old car, you know it's not safe.
I expect it not to be. That's right.
Yeah, there's a difference. There's a bit of a difference
there. Buy a new car, you expect it'll
have all the safety features. 5 star.
Can I just say just on that point, I was in the ZRB last night on the freeway coming home by myself and I turned on the lane keep thing and I turned on the adaptive cruise for about a kilometre and I'd turn them all off again.
It was the most. Freaky.
Just unconnected, experienced driving.
It's and. And as I drew left with another
car that was in the right lane next to me, I sort of came up beside it. The car braked.
Yeah. It's like, no, thankfully you
could turn it off because a lot of cars you can turn it off.
But. But yeah, I was disappointed.
Sorry. Good.
Point of mind for a Just put a Havel H6GT and they've been known to intervene quite dangerously.
A lot of people have put some disgusting dangers.
I don't want to drop it with any of that on.
Yeah, so they've done a few patches and updates to them, but they're still not perfect. So the guy he bought, I checked
on the system, the lady that was driving it turned everything off. She's like, she's like, get up.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So.
But this wasn't violent in any way, you know, like I didn't, didn't, you know, But but it was just disconnected.
I just got disconnected from what I wanted to do, and it was doing its own thing, Yeah. Yeah, no, not good anyway.
I do Grace, apologies. Well, it's a bit easier to turn
off those funds in the newer BMWs because you subscribe to it. Yeah, that's.
Right, they're not turned on in the first place.
Yeah, yeah. Just don't subscribe to it and
you're fine. OK, Question 2 is actually
pretty cool. I don't know if you heard about
this one, so you might not have an answer.
Question 2, Toyota has unveiled something new to do with hydrogen that could be a game changer.
What is it? Jeez, I did hear about it.
Pretty cool, very good with the hydrogen I'm.
Going to take a guess because I don't know Matthew.
Making hydrogen work for existing combustion engines.
No, I wish. Yeah.
They have got that too, by the way.
Have they? Oh.
Have they? Yeah, there was something else
that they did something with the battery cells.
I can't, no. David, was it a was there a way
of making hydrogen work with diesel?
No, I'd say Rob was more on the right track with that one.
It's hydrogen canisters. No, you just take it out and
just plug into a whole new canister.
So it's something that could be starting to use with cars, but at the moment can be used for, you know, like outdoor barbecues and things like that. OK.
Not yet. Use it for that too.
So just, yeah, it's just a small canister that you can just put in and take out and I'll tell you how much is in it.
And I think that would be fantastic.
Pull up to your petrol station and take out your canister and straight to a new one. Faster than filling up petrol.
Off you go, you go. Yeah.
So that would be pretty nifty. Question #3 is Mazda is
unveiling a new limited edition MX5 that will come to Australia.
It's celebrating its what anniversary.
Matthew, that's the 35th. Yes.
Oof. You're fast, Matthew. 3035
years, 35 years 35. It's going to be it.
Looks like a burgundy and like a tan roof.
I think there was the pictures of.
Yeah, it looks pretty cool. Yep.
Yeah. And then it's got all embroidery
stitching on your on your seats and stuff to go with it.
Back to the news. A brazen theft occurred at Port
Melbourne. How many cars?
David. David.
I think it was 45. Yeah, correct.
Right now. 45 cars stolen. My bonus question, how many of
them were Civic type Rs? Oh.
No, I didn't know any of them were, but I did hear on the news tonight some were Hondas. It was just released by the
police. They listed all the cars that
were taken so. Wait, wait, hang on.
Sorry, what? So what were they start from the
Wharf getting getting off a ship?
They're in a holding yard. Yeah, you know, holding.
We were surrounded with that temporary fencing with the keys in the middle. Some guys in Hobby's vests came
and pulled the the the temporary fencing out of a panel and yeah, team got in. Makes makes really makes no
sense. I mean, they were driving them
out, still covered, still covered in the plastic wrap and stuff like that. They've recovered a few.
They've recovered. 15 or or 16 or something, they're recovered.
Still with all the coverings and everything on it too.
But a lot of them wouldn't just be in transport mode, so a lot of them wouldn't be able to be, yeah, you wouldn't be able to drive them far and they wouldn't have made petrol in them.
So and. They had stuff all, wouldn't
they? Yeah.
I didn't have any type bars. I want to say they what if?
There are any cheap type bars going so.
I, I think, I think we'll go closest to with this one.
I want to. Say 8 they took eight type bars.
8 type bars for Maddie. I'm going 55.
I'll get 10. 10 None of you are actually that close to it, but
David is the closest. It was 20.
O20 Civic type bars. 20 Civic Type bars is what's written by
Victoria Police. And a 45 car.
They're 20. Five, Yeah.
That Do you know what's amazing about that?
They're all manuals. Who were they to steal them?
Pretty good. So.
Oh. My God, how many, how many
people were stealing them? Like, like it was a team of like
40 men. Like like what is?
The the police spokeswoman said they they were thinking there were around 10 people. It was done at 3:00 PM on
Sunday. During the day.
Wow. 17 vehicles have been recovered.
We've got initial footage, so this is just the footage and images first showed like Skodas, Mercedes Benz, but then Victoria police show a far wider range of vehicles that were taken.
So it includes 20 Honda Civic Type bars, wife Skoda Kodiaks, 3 Volkswagen Tiguans, 3 Skoda Superbs, 3 Skoda Cam is it Cammy, 2 Mercedes Benz Sprinters, 2 Honda Z RV's, 2 Honda C RV's, two GWM Tank, 3 Hundreds, 1 Volkswagen Golf R,
and 1 Honda Accord. Wow.
I think that's when they've sold, so they've been.
So a lot of Hondas, Winky type arms.
If Ginda wasn't in an off trouble as it is now, their cars are getting nicked. So I'm.
Going to have to speak to my contact at Honda tomorrow and say it wasn't me. Just say just wow.
Oh, that's crazy. So.
Far they've only arrested a woman from Prahran with damaging an emergency vehicle by reckless driving theft of a motor vehicle possessing 1/4 Bhutan Lieutenant dial I don't know what that is I'll help you with that one Possessing false plates and driving while unlicensed so. Yeah, she's not going to be
joined for a very long time. Yep.
He wasn't being joined by Chad. He's probably just wondering
what the hell are they talking about?
Yes, I was just trying to work out what was going on.
It wasn't you that stole the 20 civic type Rs from the docs, was it? 20 No, Probably barely figured
one out well. I mean, it's pretty easy when
the keys are in them, Chad. Oh, OK, that'll do it.
All you got to do is wear fluoro.
You can get in anywhere, yeah. That is my uniform, so yeah,
probably pull that off. Almost sounds like an inside
job. Yeah, that's it.
What are they going to do with it now, I mean.
Sunday at 3:00. Sunday at 3:00 PM.
I mean, they're all hot, right? So they're just like, they're
unusable basically. Yeah, they'll have to be, yeah.
There's not much you can do. Now where they're going is
they're going to to their friends at the Wharf, back to back, back on to another boat and often to.
Yeah, it's another country. Yeah, they were.
Back to Africa. Yeah.
Yeah, if it was a highlights, it would definitely end up in the Middle East, Yeah. There's a 50 Cal on the back.
On the back, yeah. All right, Is Chad gonna?
Enter. Yeah.
So, Chad, you've joined us at the quiz.
We're in a question. What question?
Question 5. Yeah, we're up to, we're about
to do Question 5. So, so I'll tell you, I'll tell
you what Rob, Rob and Chad can join forces.
They can be, they can be the Super team.
OK. And so it scores up myself to
David, to Robbie at the score. But Chad, you've joined, you've
joined forces with Rob, you're giving him your superpowers and, and we'll see how. That sounds good.
I know I'm about to move into talking about some Motorsports, so I think Rob might be on to this one.
We'll see how he goes. He might be able to get this
one. So question #5 There was a 12
finish at the Formula One Grand Prix in America over the week.
Rob. Rob.
Ferrari liquor and insane. Done.
It was Ferrari on a 2 Peach. Nice and quick.
Question. Question number six, who Let me
finish saying the whole question because there's 22 bits that you need to answer. OK.
Who is joining V8 Supercars next year and What Car model is it based on? Rob.
Rob. It's Toyota Supra.
Correct. Oh, is that?
Is that a 2? Is that 2 points or is that one?
It's still just one point, yeah. Yeah, you beamy Rob.
Needed to say that it was Toyota joining but yeah, it's.
An opportunity. How cool would it be to see GR
Corollas or GRSS? But Oh yeah, that'd.
Be cool. Yeah.
Totally awesome. But yeah, so Toyota's joining
and they're using their own V eights.
Wow, they. Make a good V8 Toyota so.
That's, yeah, that's what they're using.
Based on the, I don't know, three UZ or something, whatever they're up to. I think that could be wrong.
I don't know. Someone can put in a complaint
and say, Scott, you're completely wrong.
You're probably on the money, Scott.
I mean, what else? Fine, but it is definitely a
Toyota V8. I'd say it'd be it'd be based
off the the five litre that's in the LC 500 or so.
Yeah, yeah, I'd say so because they're all V8.
Supercars are all 5 litre anyway, so it would make perfect sense. All right, this is going a
little bit back in time, so some of you might have seen it, some of you might not have, but there is a very famous clip from YouTube, originally from Hot Version, where Kiichi Suchiya drives a very quick and responsive R34 GDR.
What was the tuning company's name?
Matthew. Chad.
Matthew. That was the mines GTR.
Correct. Yeah, and he like, I've never
seen, I've never seen Kiichi Suchiya say this, this car there, a car was too much. And he's like, this is too much.
Yeah, and just too. Hectic.
Watching the Taco just whoa straight into red line was absolutely insane. I'll watch that video for the
because he he drove a super just before that.
Yeah, yeah. And and he's like, he's like,
the Super was quick. And then this thing was just on
another level, but this thing was nuts.
And supposedly the little trick to that is a little tinkering with the gear ratio, Girishu tinkering, which they will talk about or say yes or no to. All right, question #8 what race
track do the Formula Ones race at in Japan?
Oh my God, this is like everyone at the same time, David.
Suzuku is correct. Bonus question.
It would go check, go get it. Where did they used to race at?
David, Matthew. David I.
Think I'm wrong, I'm going to get this.
Was it mategi, twin room? Mategi?
No, no. Matthew.
Matthew. I was gonna is it?
Was it Fuji Speedway? Yeah, Fuji Speedway.
I was. I was going to say scuba, but
Scuba's too small for a Formula One track.
It it have to be it have to be two. 1008 and that there's some
there's some some footage out there you can see Hamilton smashing around Fuji Speedway. I wish they'd go back to that
track. That was great.
Had such a great. Would be perfect for formulans
but. Fuji Speedway.
I can't, I can't remember why. There's a reason why.
I know Fuji Speedway went through a whole resurfacing to resurface the whole track, and it's just been Suzuka since then. There's a lot of safety things
you got to have to have Formula One at your track, so I guess maybe they're just not able to oblige.
Well, I mean, I mean they could and they could learn a thing of of about the about the WRC. Just go into the woods and and
see if you survive all. Right, question 9.
We moved away from racing cars. What is Australia's best selling
cars by country of origin? Matthew.
Matthew It'd. Be Thailand, Oh.
David. David.
I hope it's Korea. No, no.
No country of origin, meaning that's where the brand.
No where they're built. It's from or where they're
built, right? Yeah.
Rob, OH. Chad.
So which country do we consume cars the most from?
Rob. John, Rob.
It's one or two. I want to just go a long shot
Germany. No.
Go on Chad, you got a second chance.
Go on. In the top five.
I was going to say China. That was all in the top five,
that all in there. OK, China.
China was my second. Yeah, it was going to be my
second. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was thinking, I think. It's really.
Not Japan, China, China's #3. Was was Thailand in there?
Thailand is in there somewhere. Number one was Japan.
Really. Oh, really?
Handsome I was what I. Was going to say it's either
Japan or Germany. So that jumps to my bonus
question. There is a car guard.
What was? What was number 2?
Oh. Matthew.
Matthew. That has to be Thailand.
Oh, sure, yeah. Who is Thailand?
Yeah, yeah. And then it was China and.
Rangers and Hiluxes don't lie, do they?
I can't remember what number 4 was Neil.
It is upwards with the Volkswagens, the Porsche, Mercedes and all the other German cars that come out of the Audi number. #5. Wow, yeah.
Yeah, I. Can't remember what number 4
was, Neil, can't remember. All right, that brings us to the
last question, my favourite question, Question 10.
When playing golf, you hit the ball into an area that is an acronym saying GER. So that's GUR.
You're allowed to move the ball without penalty from this area.
What does GUR stand for? G.
UR GUR. EUR, they say it's.
David. It's an area that's messy.
Yes, David. Is it green under rough?
No, I like your guess so. I was going to I was going to
say that. I was going to say going under
rough that that's what I was going to say.
But no, I've I've got. Maybe I'll say.
Can I ask a friend? Hey Siri, what does ger mean?
I thought you were just going to ask me.
That would have been the better play.
I'm going to say being come up all.
Right. Let's do a reset.
Yeah, give you a clue. It's an area where the
groundskeepers would be fixing. Fixing that area.
Oh, Rob. Rob rained under repair.
Yeah, yeah, pretty much. So it's ground under repair?
Yep. Yep.
Yeah. I'll give that to you.
Definitely. Yep, skirt is ground under
repair and. That was a tricky, tricky golf
on so that. Was a tricky car quiz.
Car quiz. Yeah.
It's all 1 short there, Chad. Yeah, yeah.
Score. Check.
We'll check Rob and Chad, the dynamic duo 3, David on three, and myself tonight's been on a grand total of 5.
Well done. Man it's still pretty close.
Usually when I do a quiz Matt like takes off and he's like 8.
I'm evening I'm I'm figuring it out and evening these questions so he doesn't dominate every time.
I think can I just say. Even though even though he was
way off with the Civic Type R question, he was, he still won the Honda question like David Prisci.
I mean, but who honestly would guess 2020?
Now. That's insane.
So just wasn't because I know you joined us just after this conversation. They stole 20 civic type arts
brand new. Where did this happen?
Sunday. Sunday.
In Melbourne, yeah. Down to the docks, yeah.
Oh my God. 45 cars were stolen. Oh right, my boss.
Holy smoke. That's crazy because I've been
in this facility, the Melbourne International Car Terminal, and it is very secure. So it has to be an inside job
100%. Yeah, Someone who's got access
in and out. I think there's two sets of
gates you have to go through. That's crazy.
Wow, I've got to look into that. That's mild.
It was you, wasn't it, Chad? I cannot confirm nor deny
allegedly and allegedly. Allegedly he will never invite
us over to his house again because he's got a car stackage with type R Type R type. R There's no room for parking
anywhere, David. 'S going to be like, what are
all these brand new cars doing? Yeah, David's wearing a Type R
shirt and he's not being questioned.
He's a big Type R in the garage. He's giving, he's giving little
hints as to as to what he's done.
Lovely, that's pretty much the Type R motor in your Rs.
Or. Senior, sorry.
Imagine that. Yeah, it would.
It would go a lot better than it currently does at the moment.
Scotty Doe, thank you for doing the quiz mate, much appreciated.
No worries, you've just you've just sent us the link to.
Yeah, I sent you the link so you can have a.
Bit of a ring together. They just drove them out with
they. I'm just looking at the picture.
They just drove them out with the with the things that are not on them and everything. Well.
Yeah. Off they go.
What the hell that? Is inside.
That's crazy. That's that's that's brazen.
Oh my God. Well, if you find a cheap semi
type bar, here's a hint. Probably don't buy it.
Yeah. I mean, I, I it's they'll be
going to a million parts of the the world right way out.
But but we'll see what happens. Jim.
I think that's a quiz. Yep.
Yep, Yep. Thanks for doing the quiz,
Scotty. We'll start off with you.
Scotty's got to be the week. Just remember that if you do hit
in an area that's got GUR written on it, you're allowed to take the ball out of there because obviously you're not allowed to play in that area because it is ground under repair. And you can, they usually have a
spot that they've actually painted and you can just drop the ball in there. They just hold out there, just
drop the ball into that spot and you can play.
Doesn't add any extra stroke or anything.
They don't have a. If they don't have a spot, just
find one near it and just drop it.
That was my next question. Is there going to be like a
penalty for it or anything? But Yep, no penalty.
Interesting. Yeah.
So did I tell you that there's repairs happening like when you start? Yeah, it's usually it's.
Usually kind of fenced off on certain certain bits, you know, kind of not fully blocked off. Like he's to walk in and get the
ball and then I'll just have little sign, little picket sign there or say GUR. Sometimes they put it in areas
that, you know, if there's been a lot of rain and it's really, really wet and kind of flooded there, they'll put it there.
Or if they've kind of ripped up a bit and they're kind of fixing or fixing the sprinklers that are underneath and things like that. So.
Yeah, nice. Nice.
Yeah. David Prince, you do a podcast.
We do, we have done. We hope to be doing it again
soon. It's called auto retro and we
tell talk to people and hear the stories about the cars of their lives. That's the way they and I do it.
And we've interviewed Mr Matthew Janina on it and it's hear more about the laser if. You yes hear more about my my
love for said 20 almost 25 year old.
Might be worth revisiting tonight Maddie, and just just hear the joy and the the admiration in your voice again for that car which will get you back in the mood.
Hopefully I might I might listen to it on my way home we'll see how we go Rob's panel beating firefighting electrical just Rob's doing it as we've as we've come to as we've come to see see seems to be doing things again you know putting.
You tray hairs replacements. Yeah, all sorts of.
Things also also known as Rob's. Rob's tubs.
Rob's Tubs. Rub a tub Tub.
Yeah, Rob's tub is is coming to a coming to a I thought we'll drive explaining you so. So keep keep your eyes peeled
for that Chad's deliveries and delivering anything interesting this week, Chad. Oh, did some, did some stuff to
a nursing home today. That was interesting.
Cool. People need care, you know, we,
we're out there caring for them. Yeah.
You don't go to work. You don't go to work.
You're a caring man. Not sure.
