Lithium polymer is a type of lithium battery. It can be built in shapes that fit better in the car, which matters when every bit of space and weight counts.
A solar array is the set of solar panels on the car. They turn sunlight into electricity so the car can run without using as much stored battery power.
Externally charging means charging the car from a charger outside the vehicle. The event discourages it by adding a penalty, so teams try to rely on solar and careful driving first.
An energy penalty is extra “cost” in the scoring rules for using more energy than the event wants. In this case, it’s what you get for charging from outside instead of relying on solar.
Practicality judging is about whether the car is “livable,” not just fast or efficient. They check features like storage space and how comfortable the driver is, and that affects the final score.
A weather forecast is the predicted weather for the next hours or days. Solar teams use it because cloudy or rainy weather can reduce how much power their car makes.
