bracket racing
"Okay, it's uh club or team on team, drag racing, uh bracket racing, if you will. We have uh categories from the basic street grocery getter all the way up to full-blown race cars..."
A type of drag race where slower cars get a head start so they can race fairly against faster cars. The winner is the driver who gets closest to their predicted time without going faster than they said they would.

Extreme Raceway Park
"Uh, we have our last race of the spring session tomorrow at Extreme Raceway Park in Ferris. Ferris, Texas."
A popular drag racing track in Texas where drivers can safely and legally race their cars on a short, eighth-of-a-mile strip.
A premier 1/8-mile drag racing facility located in Ferris, Texas, south of Dallas. It is highly regarded by local racers for its well-prepped concrete track surface, modern timing systems, and family-friendly bracket racing events.
2011 Dodge Charger
"Well, my my car is a 2011 Dodge Charger, but it's not stock at all. I mean, it runs six and a half second eighth miles."
A large, heavy American four-door sedan that is popular for its aggressive looks and powerful engine options. While heavy, it can be modified to be extremely fast in a straight line.
The 2011 Dodge Charger marked the beginning of the model's seventh generation (LD platform), featuring updated retro-modern styling and upgraded powertrains. In drag racing, its heavy 4,000-pound curb weight requires substantial horsepower to overcome, but its robust chassis makes it a popular platform for high-horsepower builds.
4.11 gear ratio
"But it's you know, the transmission's been built, it's got an aluminum driveshaft, it's got a 411 gearing uh Ford uh clone rear end in it."
A gear setting in the back of the car that helps it accelerate very quickly from a standstill, which is perfect for short drag races but makes the engine spin fast on the highway.
A differential gear ratio where the driveshaft rotates 4.11 times for every single rotation of the wheels. This 'short' or 'steep' gearing provides rapid off-the-line acceleration at the expense of top speed and highway fuel economy, making it ideal for drag racing.

"Like you can have a two-stepper, you can have a um uh what do you call it? Uh I'm trying to think of what it what it's called."
An electronic system that lets a drag racer hold the gas pedal all the way down before the race starts without blowing up the engine, keeping it at the perfect speed for a fast launch.
A secondary rev limiter used in drag racing to hold the engine at a specific, pre-set RPM while stationary. This allows the driver to floor the throttle and build boost (in turbocharged cars) or maintain a consistent launch RPM for maximum traction when the brakes are released.
Honda 1.5L Turbo Engine
"First one on the list is a Honda. Uh so 1.5 turbo. Honda generally enjoys a strong reputation for reliability, but there's some Hondas their engine buyers, uh, their engine of the engines and the buyers might want to steer clear of. Uh, one of these engines is the 1.5 liter turbo."

When gasoline gets mixed into the engine's oil. This is bad because gasoline is thin and doesn't lubricate the engine parts like thick oil is supposed to, which can cause the engine to wear out faster.
A phenomenon where unburnt fuel passes by the piston rings and mixes with the engine oil in the crankcase. This reduces the oil's viscosity and lubricating effectiveness, potentially leading to accelerated engine wear if the oil is not changed frequently.

A clever engine design that can change how tightly it squeezes the air and fuel inside its cylinders while you are driving, helping it save gas when cruising or give more power when accelerating.

GM 6.2L V8 Engine
"Specifically, we're talking about problems with the GM 6.2, which powers popular models like the best-selling Chevry Silverado, GMC Sierra pickups, as well as a Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and the Cadillac Escalade."
A large, powerful V8 engine used in big GM trucks and SUVs. While it sounds great and can tow a lot, it has had issues with internal parts breaking, leading to expensive repairs.
