night here on, 98.9 Northwest FM, in the studio, with Luca,
Adrian and Emily's, dad, John and Liz is a silent partner, part of the show. How you doing, John?
Thank you very much. Good to have you on
the Corona virus. One of the members from he
thinks he's a contracted who Yes Edwards and torrents selling the hopefully something that jeep today.
That's why that's why I couldn't say it's Unbecoming to look at it so tough times you got to sell out going to set up my it's all over a driver you know it's going to still sell this method damn three but it's not us a card they before we get into into some questions and stuff carve dates with you look at you got your car back back fully pan corrected And and the front end wrapped. I hope protection film looks
good. Can you tell the wraps on it?
Not to the naked eye you can. But obviously if you into cars
and you look closely you can see it.
Yeah. And how long do they write?
How long do they write that for 10 year warranty?
I really yeah not to damage the pain or anything.
Yeah it's pretty good. Pretty good.
What else you want us to go? Yeah, that's pretty damn good.
And then the whole cows ceramic coated as well.
Okay said it would just be too expensive.
Pretty expensive. If I got a fully fixed up,
right? Adrian car.
This is you nothing. Nothing?
Really, this is really weird for you.
Laughs. That's a lie.
It's kind of bothered. Now, let's see.
Sunday afternoon. I think it was.
I put some speakers into the car.
Now, that's about it. Tried the Big Dipper in the
factory, inspections on the great.
No, they're not. And I got the speaker adapters
and all that stuff. They're 4.7 in the mirror all
day and them from on the front as well.
Okay. Okay.
Yeah. In the rest of the cat.
But yeah, that's fine. Then Monday night.
I think it was, no, is a continuation of Sunday night mate. And I, we went for a drive.
Yeah. Then old Sidney Road.
That's a fun road. It's just nothing.
But and and that's what, are you two?
Pretty dirty. Oh yeah.
Oh yeah. We had some fun.
But how are you going out the net?
It's been tuned and sort of. Yeah, it's okay.
It's still the orders a bit. Hey going, there's bushes that
mediate changed, but, but engine-wise, it's running sweet.
That's fine. That's cool.
I want more power. Now, now the say that the bug,
it's the bug bites, ya, the bug bites and, and unfortunately, I'm holding off. And yeah, I'm holding off.
So you're not going to get lickety-split and go do it.
No, really holding off because I really want to do that with him.
Three. Okay, that that would be a lot
of a lot of fun out of this for me.
I, you know, you know, I'm always a bit of a stickler for you're trying different different.
Products on the god. What have you done?
So basically, I noticed that the Foresters headlights, we're pretty yellow. So I was looking at some of the
kids and they just overpriced like, a full of good things in the kid that you go for. Well, here's the thing, like
they weren't pitted or terrible do.
Just do it has yellow, and discolored.
So, I look at what we sold it at super cheap and it was, someone look around how I started off my why section.
And so I Like it's a bit pricey so I went down to the to the Turtle Wax section. Now they've got a kid died later
that I did just got other took a bottle called the headlights sealant, cleaner and sealant. So it's got the ceiling in there
and are the reviews online and everyone said, yeah, it's pretty good. The more you apply it, the
better it is and longer it lasts.
So I honestly just gave it a quick wipe and it clean them up and I gave it a give it about three hits to you know, just to seal it on. R Godlike new.
I did I did what happened did? Mom's car, did ya?
So works good. So we Smell Ya Maka.
Yeah, it actually surprisingly worthwhile for like a like, a cheaper on the scale product. It's not too bad.
So there you go. Adrian.
Get it in. You probably like Turtle Wax,
this turtle eggs and then I'll go look, it's not a bad product, sort of Polish one. If it's a Polish headlight,
restorer, Kate they work for about three months and then I'm working. Yeah and I know It because we've
done, this one's got the sealant in it.
Yes, I've done it, it doesn't last.
Okay, the only way to make them last as you're going to use or can't remember what companies from anymore.
But we've got them at work and what it is is it's an paper and it's an actual clear coat that goes on there.
The ones that last. So I was looking at the McGill's
McGuire's kicked the Scott that sandpaper and wasn't my wife but they've got also a clear coat that goes over the top and but they're like yeah that should last you about about a year or so I'm like well. And that kit was like, 85 bucks,
and I'm not gonna pay ninety five bucks for that 85.
Yeah, 8500. That's ridiculous.
A joke. I was going to get the
headlights for the paint protection film as well but because they've got a couple little things in them.
Yep they show up. Yeah sharp so but that's a good
way to protect their Lots long-term 100% or ceramic item to. Yeah.
Can you do the lights on the astral like that too?
Okay. Now how all the wax that's like?
It's all faded. Yeah, and you can just do that.
Clean them up. Mackey.
Come do it again. Yeah.
Commandos. Yeah.
Come on the territory of the territory lat.
Akon these days in cars that everyone the engine is back in the day. They tell us scary.
Well, you couldn't run it. You couldn't make it about him
all the time have. It wouldn't back in my day, we
didn't have any, but if you knew it was a hot day, you took your car at your run, the air conditioner.
Bang, that's a code over here on the side of the road.
So we never used it with those down, always.
Yeah, even today, it can put the aircon on with Carrie the car.
The car dying Kira. The alternator off.
Yes I say just like oh dear God. Ha ha ha.
I'm on my phone. I'm so happy.
You got that. LTD.
Yeah. It's been sitting for 15 years
in the garage and no one touched.
I think he's happy because now he doesn't have to deal with.
Yeah. Hey that's amazing.
I can't believe it is beautiful, but still, that's all I'm gonna say. Whatever it is.
It's big, heavy car. That's exactly it.
Yeah, they should come out with me as you used a lot of the felines had V8 yes in that year. Yeah.
But then those 250 model of the six cylinder.
Then you have the V8, which is pretty good cards of the time.
Anyway. Yeah.
Well good had air conditioning load climate control, which night has have the time or what they're really good.
But of course there's a breakdown.
Okay, it was good that you had So, Matt's gotta fix that looks really good shit. Really happy you heard about the
fire that happened in the air. The what the fire that happened
inside the car? Now, what for fire
and So you can push it out and he's like the fires coming from inside where he's patched it.
So it's called on quite a lot on the insulation because Elton is got like tons of insulation to keep quite.
He's like shit what I do. So you got a you got a Also
whole soul straight into it and just got the hose just thought of as the crap out of it. Yeah.
So all these work at wasn't a that.
Yeah. So but it survived.
It's about. I have to do a little bit more
work on. Actually, I'm at the top of the
windows, that little bit of rust, I'm going to go to try, get that. Hey, when are we the front?
Windscreen your main screen? Yeah, I've tried a lot just a
little bit. Yeah.
A small man. Yeah, but I'd rather get to it
now. Before it wrecks, the whole car,
actually, the back of the boot, to sometimes I rushed it because the water wasn't proof that's happened.
Is that all Fords? Yeah, it's not just for Words.
Yeah. When we Barris shop in it, when
the end of the sides to give up, but it's still got.
All right, John. You have the curve.
What? Twitter over 20 years.
Yeah. I did.
Yeah. And tell us how you bought the
car. How a border?
Yeah. What would you say?
Was that a kayak? Yeah.
I mean for a car that for what it was.
Yeah. The price that I wanted to pay
that was the car. Yeah.
Right. Welcome to go over the top would
have cost me too much money. So that was a really that was a
classy car back then there was where we just put it back you know it's doing the deal is heading for me.
And I for it and I think at the time of going for about eight thousand dollars, okay, that's pretty good.
I remember the year but what you do was But it was 8,000 dollars.
Yeah, but it'd be well, that didn't have any problems.
Of course, the fuel pump used to go a couple times.
Yeah, spark plugs because about it.
Nothing major nothing. But yeah.
So did you drop it for like before you pack it up?
Well, it was sitting for at least 15 years.
Okay. Well, we've been at.
He loved about 22 it. Yeah, 15 years of it was sitting
in the garage, that's That they sitting in the garage and I just sitting there looking at it sitting there looking at of the, what I'm going to do, what I'm going to do then you came along.
Wow. Yeah, it made my day.
All right. Reigns has said you got it for
6K. That was I hate
well. It's good to have you on John
because like obviously you're older than us.
But you've, you've had you've had experience with different cars cars up with because that we didn't grow up with natural.
I so like some some cars. Look for example like you use
the used to have like manero's use.
Have am I right? My first car was my dad gave me
his ex T. Ford.
All right. 250 it was sort of a golden brown column shift?
Yeah, the three on the tree branch.
Yeah, I put mags on. It put extractors on it, it
sounded unbelievable. It was a really, really nice
cars that look after ya, and I had that for a while, then I tried in for the vanara, the human era two-door, coupe 308.
And how much do you regret selling that stuff?
I do not have it. Who is it?
Who is it? That much really?
Yeah, the falcon. But that said it was not a bad
deal because remember, they liked was that man.
You yeah, man. You phosphate.
Hey, but you do remember like 50 and then to tell you how the head ones with 350 miles or 30 80k, people used to put three fuses in them 3, 2016, 3 PCS but the three, our standard.
Okay, yeah, so getting back to like what you paid for them and it's not quite. So I'm still kind of going for
around the like that back then. They were like the SS Commodore
of today, really? Probably.
Yeah, if we didn't think anything about that.
It didn't really mean that much to us.
The time like I was driving to human error of my friend was driving the SS Camaro, that's funny how to do 231.
Hey Joe, there's another guy had a HK 350 Chevy.
I mean it just wasn't really that popular at that time that were the cars are out there but it was the now if we kept them all. Yeah, exactly.
Right. There you go, you probably could
have bought this studio and don't ya.
To get something that's rusted out.
You're still looking 30, 40 Grand really.
Yeah, it's ridiculous, whatever the Camaro's.
We've been that, they become ours.
Went that much. Nah another.
Now they're like, what? 60 70.
Yeah. This is just really, just to get
into one just getting some left hand drive or not.
All right hand drive out the other thing or even just like you're like, hey h-series, Holden's.
Yeah. As in h JQ x and z the premier's
to get a premier these days, Days and especially in wagon form the talking 20, 25 Grand. Yeah, to get a good Prem though.
That's a good while one that actually runs has been looked after her. It's just it's ridiculous.
Prices are quite a few cars. There are nice car, they were
nice. Yeah, full of a truck and then
they even had a condition at that time.
That's when what year was that. But let's be honest, you
wouldn't have used it. Up to about 40 PSI in, you had
to draw the time 70s, 70s. Oh, it's funny, because my dad
and my uncle, they both had H said Statesman.
Okay, good. Both of them.
And my dad had the Caprice, and my uncle had the de Ville.
Beautiful. Because I do know the story.
See here, from back in the day, you like, and this is the reason we can't do anything in these days.
Well, armored you. And I were having a chat John.
And you sound like the stuff used to get up to back in the day and yeah you know it's ridiculous.
It's like yeah you couldn't do that now like as in white.
What do you mean? We can't mention the writer
commented on the right. The bacon in Mexico you could
say you could talk about it. But yeah.
Videos. Yes.
So there's video. What you mean drag racing drag
race Sydney Road. The warehouses.
Well, they had all the Roger Old Maid because nothing else.
So on a Sunday North you saw a hundred people use the guys, that's it. And just line up the card.
Just drag race on a Sunday night.
It was amazing. It was amazing.
It wasn't just their, that they used to do it but that was, because the Roger in different times Different time better time. So you have the A few years or
what happened was I when I was 25 years old.
Yeah, I want to buy a car, I want to buy a car and then the end, it'll just take it like the car and do what you want.
So when I came back, he redid the whole car completely.
All right, yeah, right. How long were you in graceful?
Three months? Jeez, in three months he did.
The car wherever was and he did, they spray the whole car.
Brand new rims will get the shit.
The launch of since the launch of the big thing that sequence at the back seen ones at the front.
You the homeowner change gear box.
Look beautiful. And you can say, even had we
lose sight. Oh nice.
So we did the room ready to the Lord and ask her and he saw the Persona half thousand dollars. Oh, well.
There you go. Yeah.
So he made a bit of money out of it, but he loves it too.
You know, there's a, there's a family friend of ours back in the in the And we used to get it was to compromise with them anyway, he's double speaking them to my dad and I and like they're talking about talk about cars and and he's like, oh, I asked him is like there's there a car that you regret selling and he's like to me. Yeah, he had a jcho face to know
how, and he's like back in nineteen ninety or ninety two.
I think it was think it was his wife at the time was like, I want to have kids. So the car want to buy a house.
He's like, no, no I'll try anything not to sell.
But ends up selling the car and he sort of a 12 Grand and and he's like, I liked him, you know, if they go for right?
He's like I don't even think about how much they go for it because like it just kills me. He's like he's killed him every
day. That could be careful.
Remember those 12 Grant? The houses you could buy houses
for fifteen. Fifty Grand those days.
Yeah. So the value was there.
No way Hannah percent inflation. I guess in today's money.
But yeah but yeah just got out of proportion.
Phase 3 is what over 200. And now for phase three reasons,
I'm a million bucks, almost depends on the condition you been. A few I have.
That's what I'm trying to say. Just at that time, it wasn't
that huge. Okay, you got to GT beautiful.
Let's go for Drive little bit since he was in the car.
Yeah, it's probably around you. I wasn't that.
Where to go. Thomas cried, Uncle James.
Tell me one of his good mates. Had a 3351 or 302.
Xw fit like Fairmont like covid-19 to come in 30 to.
Yeah. Ford made all these race
engines. Are they just put him in the
actual intellectual normal cars. So, so he got one, like, the one
in the gtha was one of the actual stream was a proper face.
Re like a, like, all writing was a race engine.
Yeah. So he's like to be a States.
The dragon and then had come over this hill.
He's like but the the HR would just leave him because we're just an animal. He's over time, they got over
the hill time, he got over the hill in the Fairmont, he was really long gone anyway, long story short because those Motors were so highly strung. And it's like they just sit.
There were two good. They weren't they weren't a good
moment to be driven around and put it around, though.
You need to learn to drive. Yeah, you took neither of them
essentially, basically, from putting it around and it just died. If they don't card, I'd really.
Yeah, the engine just, it wasn't made for that.
Yeah. So got the matter of placed
under under warranty. I think I was telling me is this
is like when they were new, And then they just put it in with that like the standard G, th our engine that you would have gotten, and he's like, the difference in power was insane and he's like, because like they're do that same drag race.
And whereas before there to go over the hill and the guy would be gone, he'd still be able to see him.
Yeah, he's like the difference between the race engine that was actually, there was actually a difference.
So just just insane that like they're supposed to do.
I work the Ford Motor Company in those years.
All right, so all the race engines because what during that the yeah well like I said, we have a warehouse with Send the tracks down and we used to send them back like raw material.
Yeah like bumper bars and all that type of thing, then after that they should bring all the stuff down.
There was the supply and kept in store all the 351 racing engines with it. That's it.
Yeah there was the thing happened.
Was there was about 16 of them, out of them.
Got ripped off. You looking forward to?
Yeah, there was a true story. There was eight left.
The other right? Got taken by the nobody knows
who or what happened to him? They'll Gone full race engines,
dead, sir. What?
In your shed at Ford was just unbelievable.
It would have been, it would have been like a pretty special time. Like, you know, like Looking
Back. Now, the time you wouldn't have
thought anything of it. No big deal.
Big deal against imagine, like just walking down the street, and it's just like Kamara. Hey yeah, Hugh.
Yes. Was that what?
It was like? Wow, they just never the
Mustangs. What do you like this so cheap
still? I don't know.
It's just because it's so Nearly 2,000, they brought the boy that ugly. Yeah, they brought the the new
Edge, the new Edge Mustang, and it didn't sell well at all.
Because overpriced for what I was, then when X are mostly Basics. Now, for the loans are pretty,
would be eyes, really? That was six.
I guess and then they brought some out in the V8 then you had SVT that would also work on them.
Yeah but they'll majority V6 well I know that tickford did the conversion to run and drive here when they will bring them over in the in the early. 2000's, because people still buy
like the into Falcon V8 and stuff and then they were like, well, why would I want to buy that?
And then now when the Falcons gone, that's why this thing a bazillion Mustang is because there's a every way bigger than me. She was just four.
People are weird, sister. Wait, I own a Ford.
Yeah, it's really good because We never, we never got to experience experience that and it's we never got to experience car culture at its finest, okay? I don't care what anybody says,
people say oh, the early 2000's with the best because that's when all the Japanese cars are no cars when they were at their finest ladies, 70s and 80s end of story, don't care.
Those were the golden ear for like a straight was everything was made here and driven you built everything but it just Have been so cool just to even like sit at the corner of a street and just watch the cars go fast.
You see there was I can't remember what film what was now, but there was a film with Jackie Chan and they were in Melbourne.
This is like back in there, I think was the 90s and even then like you see all the cars, it's like X and everyday cars.
They're just everyday cars. It's hq's and all that driving
up and down the street in, like, doing like the Cinema Melbourne.
Yeah. And then, I would've called
Federation Square and all And I'm just like this is just nuts.
But when you think about that now and you go, right, what is going to be those cars from today in 50 years because now we're moving towards electric cars.
It's hard to say that because that's what you, you didn't think about it back then. But now see, this is the
problem. Now, is that?
Everybody's thinking about that? They're like, what cars do we
keep? That's worth money.
That's what I'm thinking about that, but that's what I'm saying. Everybody's doing it.
So everything's already inflating.
Well, that's why you can think about.
What's actually going to be worth it?
Yeah that's why GT GT Sr.'s W ones would like over 200k
before they know they're going to go and like they're hot, they're going more than that which is just in its incest, sell it for, what it is available in our what to use.
Now we'll do one don't before they even went.
You going to draw because it every three draws a little bit driven, that's my own personal. Thought, if you want to keep the
car for you, the money afterwards.
That's cool. But just remember that's like
having a model girlfriend and not wanting to sleep with her.
But I think they could happen today though.
The cars of today, I think it's not the same for anything in the next 20 years. It depends on the Kazakh because
like when you look at him you got stuff that's more expensive.
So for instance the last of them an hour.
Oh yeah, the cv8 and all that. And if you look at Psalm that
allocate, if they work money now, CBI doesn't worth good money. The ratio
then the second ones were to look more like the GTOs and they would just nuts. Like I don't know, it's kind of
love. The look of them but go go try
and get 160 Grand plus that much knew it would dick ulis.
I think also a difference is like from your meal time, John.
The cars had racing pedigree, the had the pedigree then like who's the saying it was legit win on Sunday, some Monday?
Yeah, that that's how it was and here, what, yeah, yeah.
You did. You go watch.
Jake for instance, like the JD I chose you because I watch him.
Yeah winning map. Panorama and then go to the Ford
factory I guess the Ford dealerships.
I want one. Yeah done.
It's funny, you know a lot of those all those race teams that their race do. Thi So they bought them in
Melbourne or whatever and they still run a mean by driving and driving him to see what about this.
The writer is over there. Yeah, so, I mean,
With the right? The Jetty as of the sixes
though. Yeah, yes.
Yeah, that they had a inline-six.
I think. Do they have trouble with is all
or yeah, that did that because I just I always get confused with just the model. So you see people people think
the show was just a V8 country, but to what we've actually had six cylinder performance for a long time.
Like the cries, I had the 265 with the triple Weber's, you know. They had them in charges and
they still fly my father actually got after Gabby.
The poured, you got a Hemi Valiant Hemi 365.
Hemi that thing was a tank. Yeah.
Yes. Huge as to Door.
You guys are so right on wood. Because race because these days
V8 Supercars a terrible, okay, I don't kiss on the same.
I can't offend people, I don't care, they're terrible.
Yeah, I love watching him back in the days.
Different cars, different classes, different drivers, just everything was different, and that's what made it enjoyable.
And I remember watching like the, the meaning he's flying along. The top of the mountain.
Nothing could catch him like the big V8s.
Nothing soon as it came down, and kind of, right.
Right. Yeah.
Good luck. Bye.
But it's That's really interesting because like the by the time the Falcons and when Aras I've like got the top of the hill, they break to be cooked.
Yeah. And and and these little minis
are just starting in. Throw him getting getting a fair
distance other than controls right then you just see these big variations fly past them so think of the corners it was great to watch. You know, recently there's one
driver that actually does that he races that way was in the improved production production. Yeah, I like that Series.
Yeah. He's name's Jordan Cox.
And he was driving a Civic on Mount.
Panorama. It is a lake in that was chasing
him at one point and then they have you on YouTube without isn't it yesterday night? And then they had him an arrow
that was in the mix as well. Now the guy and then when our
obviously was a good driver because both time he caught Jordan just took off. Yeah.
Yeah. Jordan going to catch him but
between the seleka and that in the Civic.
I mean, one of the best races I've watched, like, you see you just go around corners like along the top of the mountain, right up. Yeah.
Behind the Sleek about the past him and then you see three wheels around one corner. I'm just like, that's It's just
it's good to watch, isn't it? It's so good.
Even I think that had the 50 years of The Minis and the Mustangs I think it was in racing.
Yeah. And they had that at Sydney
Motorsport Park and like the had the two cars wasn't like 65 Mustangs and the minis with him and you watch it as well.
The mean he's in the corners, Mustangs could do nothing, you know? Yeah.
But as soon as the cameras along straight, you'd see like the Mustang pass, then the mini soon as gets the corners again.
Go go color object, over gentleman, either, they are hilarious on the drive. Did you fit in it?
I did. Do you actually, you'd be
surprised. You'd be surprised actually
quite roomy inside, the well designed on our biggest belief.
But it's, it is, it is quite roomy in there.
So, John after the menorah, what did you have after that?
So you came back, your brother took it?
Well after I came back from overseas and I bought a VBS early Commodore a nice car. That car got stolen three times,
you're kidding, exact same sweetie.
That car got stolen three, the first two times.
I ran out of petrol. So I didn't get too far.
Third time was full the tank and they just took it out know where they went. We ended up finding it at
Reservoir, and they burnt it out, but I managed to get the motor back in a few, the door panels and stuff like that.
That which I saw to a race car driver.
All right. Yeah.
You coming toward the doors and the motor, and bonnets and but three times. The cable taken free time.
That's taken to because you always have no petrol.
Do you get petrol every day? I got a dollar 16 this morning
managing the road till 65 1616. Yeah, really.
Because on the news tonight, there was a think about dollars dollar 60. Yeah so I saw my way here past
let's take it was a dollar a dollar fifty nine back to that was like okay they got up in an hour.
So after the soe After the SLA. After the SLA, going to have a
bought a BMW 535 model. All right.
Six classy bit of a change classy change which I really didn't use it anyway. Yeah, so that kind of just left
that card just done in my shoulder from behind of dollars at the end of it. Okay. 8:34 shape here.
Yeah, the red of the back, no more.
Rounded square root of the back. Yeah.
Yeah. If Yes.
But the 525 models, which came out afterwards, your head, everything, all the power steering.
And the one before that 39, I think was after that he thought it was a 30, 40 39. Yeah.
Then all the new. Yeah.
I had a company car, all these years because of what I was doing work wise and at the end of an hour just bought a for territory. Yeah.
And I know man. But where did you go from the
Beamer for the Baymont? That's the ultimate many cat.
Wagon. Hey uh, Jay and I was using, I
had a, I had the Manara, he put a 350 Chevy in it.
All right, get it right up and I think you might have seen the photo yet. The cut inside the Bonnet here.
The cut, you know, whether shock is said like, yeah, the sort of sweat shop is shut down. Yeah because otherwise there was
a beautiful time. Just one day I lined them up.
I don't blame him. I'll be ready baby.
Yeah you guys all look a mr. Gyro mr.
Gears they did not count. Yeah.
Yeah. Now he took a lot of time.
They come in and they Heights wagon.
Yeah, the 350 in it and if you can't accelerator cable, it wasn't really good. Yeah, you couldn't put the pedal
on a car from, that was a really nice guy, really nice.
I mean, those coming back. Then people would people just do
like crazy, just put a big motor, this is easy.
Then you don't know this computer stuff.
The FED guys play guys are started off with a HQ holding fucked. Like the SS and the hatch.
Command arrows. That's when I started to play
together. Yeah, to put a big ties, the
back. And I'm very used to flare them
out. So that's what the a.
So I came up with a yeah, like the riveted on one.
So those, those are the Flames guards with the, in thing to be split to the back. Yeah, that and that's, that's
right. Yeah, yeah.
Connections with everybody. That's right.
That's how I used to be like, yeah, let's do this.
Let's put the matter in here. Let's do this.
Let's fix your minor. Yeah, no worries used to do it.
Yeah, I remember dad used to tell me about times with his mates and one of them I think he had a menorah was a HQ man hour and had the three-eyed in it and they wanted to put a 350, so just over a weekend. They're like, yeah, let's put
it. In it done.
Anymore, we'll just put a beam in my garage, grab the chain.
As soon as like you have more than one or two modified cars together, the cops have to come down.
Yeah. Well, what's happening down
here? What's this, what's that?
I think it's I mean there's that as well but like in terms of talking as a culture sort of thing, like it's I mean yeah we still talk about cars and I'm like this is the reason why we do the show but like you know, we still hang out with friends of cars but like I don't think it's as its as like your kind of culturally invested as it used to be like in your time John Wayne like you know like Like the boys are you listen to swap the engineer this weekend? And they'll come around and just
to swap them out as like? Yeah, I was just like, you know,
I've got stuff to do my phone. Yeah, I've got time because
going to cost you. Yeah, he said that we don't have
that. Yeah.
Used to help each other and you know, no internet back.
I don't pay your house. You put the motor in.
Yeah. But we always do it together.
So it was cool. It'll be a good bonding
experience through like you and you know, find it to be like a good big Goodwin Once you get the car running and yeah I would have been so much fun. Yeah.
Like compared to not just so much more Fun.
That was that's why when you look at this shows that do so.
Wow, as in like on YouTube and all that, why roadkill is so big is because that's what they do now.
Yeah. So there's an American show.
It's called were killed. And what it is, is like they're
in America and they go and get old beaters from the junkyards.
I do exactly that they just buy and fix them up driving around soon as it breaks. Okay, let's upgrade.
And that's what the whole show is about.
All right, and it's so big over there.
There for that reason. Because the fact that it's just
like, they have so much fun together.
Whereas you look at other shows and it takes them a lot longer.
Yeah. The same thing.
Yeah, because it's a newer cars and they're like, yeah, we have to fix it but we're going to worry about Electronics, going to worry about this and smog this that technology has come a long way but more more in it, you know.
I mean like it's like Like, for example, the first computer to the size of like massive rooms. Yeah, you know.
And, and now you can get one in the size of your hand, but the amount of text that's in this had more and more than that.
So, same thing with cars, don't get me wrong, you're right with that, okay? And you look at cars these days
in there a lot quicker than what they were back in the day, just especially with the amount of money that you're putting into it and said, electronics and all that.
But to me, it takes out the fun. To me, it takes out the fun of
let's just smash this out over a week.
Ken, let's have some fun, get the boys down.
Drink some beers, have fun that way.
Yeah, because it's always for instance, when I had the, any car that I've done an engine swap in the magma, was one of them, then there was the NX was another, the M3s another one.
It's the Magna. I wanted to stop at two 3.8 and
had the boys over for the weekend.
We tried to smash it out. We couldn't reason we couldn't
because those electronic issues after that Danny.
X, same thing. Had it started up when took it
for a drive, it was slower than the engine before.
Yet when I had it in the old car, it was faster.
So it's like, oh, because of all these electronics.
And all these new things that are coming out, makes it, it makes it harder for people to enjoy their cars in the way of building them unless they've got the right tools.
But see, I find that I find it. I'll find a good because it
makes it more of a challenge. Give it These days to go and do
anything like that. For instance, like with the M3.
I have a check engine light. I can't.
Just go do it for instance. Like as in check it, like I
would with the Falcon because I need a computer for go buy one of those computers, they're not Jake.
So that's what I'm saying. Like Everything's changed.
You need more expensive tools to do the same thing.
But then again, we're getting better performance.
Now, for example, like hundred percent, you know, yes, I could do thi face, it was a fast car. It's Alyssa fast car and I think
they I think they did like 13 second quarters like which is like insane for for back down you can get like you know for example like you look your car off the factory floor would do a flat 13, you know? And and that's what you know 40,
50 years later. But you know what technology was
like but you know those old JT's didn't have the brains.
They do from Factory. Well, I can I do the 100 I'm not
too sure to honor but I don't need to do 13.
But yeah, technology and that things like yes, it's doing the same times but now you've got You got to stop the car will hand the car. Wash you go around a corner,
it's easy to put the power down, you know, it's because it's all electronic bass now, it's no longer.
You going to listen to what the issue is and try and figure out from the edge. Exactly.
You don't have to change the Jets out on the carburetor to make it quicker or slower in. Have to worry about timing
because it's all on a computer. It's just the fact that to do
that. Now, those computers cost a lot
more in order to do the same thing.
I get that That's all I'm saying.
The Holley carbs would be problem to try and tune and trying to get them, right? Yeah.
Yeah. But not to like a hundred
percent real life Journey. Yeah.
Got a new car put on, I'm all mechanics.
Pretty good with tuning it up but he's like, look, I've got it towards towards dramas like I'd rather you take it to a copy place. That is specialized in tuning
these. You know the was a Holley carb
and took it down to this place. I think it was in in in
reservoirs. Or is it falls somewhere
somewhere down there, it was it was old man.
Drop the car off, ever wonder how I'll come around and they will place, but I came back. Like a monthly because I don't
think I'm like, I'll be I'm going on holidays, pick the car up and he's like, you said like yep, the Articles have been off and you know, it was close. But it wasn't, he wasn't there.
And he's also like to me, he's adjusted the, the idol just not pretty much. I just the whole thing to make
it to make it dry well and he's like all these holidays or holy cards have got, you know, these, these issues and are the only one I took it for the first drive, it felt like a different car and it felt it, felt it felt if A beautiful experience and I for experience we are pay top dollar to get it done.
But that's what you pay for perfect experience.
As you said, it's, you look at all the people like in the hot rod saying and it's the same thing.
Yeah, they can just tell by hearing and it's like I think that's what's wrong with a generation.
Is we all expect everything to be on the screen.
It's too easy. That's what I'm trying to say.
Oh, there's an issue with my car--it's in.
It's fine. Let's go get the computer.
It's not a longer. All right, we can hear that.
It's fine. Sounds like a my page at the
Jets on the cob, or Whatever It Is by playing, what's up?
Yeah, one of the ladies basic. Yeah, that's right.
Get the car tested and it's 200 bucks, just there.
For them to put a computer on it.
It's good to have a friend, it is.
I would honestly pay just to sit there and just watch someone just work with carbs in the way. It works like that fascinates
me. Oh, yeah.
Like build a matter from scratch in, but we're putting it in having a not running, right? Then you're having to change the
timing a bit. Yeah.
Having to reject the carbs. Having to fix other stuff on it.
That's mechanical. Yeah, not electrical because
electrical it's too easy. It's okay.
Yeah, we're plugged it. In cylinder for is not working
anymore. Cool, let's find out.
Why that that, whereas with the other one, it's you rev it up a bit, okay, doesn't sound right? Let's change.
This still doesn't sound right with the word.
Wish breakdowns in those years because if something went wrong, you get out of the Car. And then you picture with the
shootings with the Hummer. We had a guy, I remember when I
was at came out, fine odor. And there was a guy came in with
a brand spanking new BMW and had a flat.
All right, gets dropped off and we had to replace the tire iron and because it, because I don't come with spare times.
Yeah. And we couldn't find The key for
the lock nut case, just couldn't find are going all over the car.
Couldn't find. I had the guy in charge, he
looked couldn't find anything. He had to then get it towed from
us to BMW. We BMW looked at it for two
seconds and said, you're the lock the lock and key is in here you have to press a button and it popped up so then we had to get towed back to us again. Like what like why why is it so
stupid for? Or it's stuff like that.
That makes an annoying. Yeah, excuse me.
But it's gonna say the same thing but it's also that what makes cars really good? Because they've got a lot of,
you know, they got they got these modern things like where it's like, before you be like trying to figure out a hundred things to, if something the cars are on, that was now to count, just tell you. But again, it's a catch-22.
Yeah. So Guys, these days are a lot
better performance wise and you can get a lot more aftermarket Form 100 %. Yeah but I think it's just
taking the fun out of owning a new car.
Yeah, that's fair for me. Like the same thing with the M3
about a car that's sitting there.
That's yo, awesome car with an engine that's worth.
Twelve thousand dollars that I can't rebuild.
Why Yep. But anyway, robbed six Innings,
and X Y, JT support 14-8 down. The quarter mile was, I was at a
hater. Oh, Rob.
Or was that a just a standard GT?
Wait for him to get back to us their car quiz time.
Here we go. Here we go.
Not this again, Kaku is time. It's so I'm going to just get
the quiz up. So basically how this works when
you're more than welcome to join us.
So it's okay. Okay, okay.
It's ten questions and whoever gets the most right wins.
Essentially gets bragging rights for a week, not really anything special. Let's get my thing to write my
notes on. Don't do a shout-out here but
the listeners. All right, so we've got it.
Did 0 to 100 and 6.9 seconds and standing standing quarter was a
14. For now he go so okay, cool,
clothes twice. Yeah.
And they did Bathurst in a two-minute 36.5, so the Allan
Moffat. All right.
That's ridiculous, face rogerio. Hey JD.
Hey, Cho is an incredible is in incredibly high demand with collectors and investors good examples.
Have been sold for prices in excess of a million dollars.
It was Conquest. I'm going to do it quickly
because before we are at a time, question 1, what is the faster more powerful version of the early crazy GPS?
Artie called Adrienne Adrienne is, isn't it?
Wait, hang on, is this the one from Factory of the one?
Not from Factory? This is the one from Factory
track, Hawk Truck Old Crow. So basically, I probably should
mention done. You got to just say your name to
demacian, okay? Your name is your buzzer
question to what was unique about the a you series.
One xr8 rear spoiler Adrian? Yes had the twin spoiler to
install the correct. Do that's impressive.
A drink. Yes.
Yeah, question 3. The Fabia was made by which
company Adrian scared. Are you guys going to?
All right? Adrian.
Yeah. Australian terms Luka.
Yes. Thanks.
It is false, a question 6, the Ferrari 288 GTO and how many cylinders 12? I'm sorry.
John yes, you're 12? No yes, ten gnarly hatred.
Yes, it was a nice. Calm down in twos.
Question 7. What Kyle had two beams three
sge motor from Factory? I should know this and I don't
wait Hadrian. Yes, I do.
I know it's a Toyota GT, for Bumbo.
No, it was the altezza, The Ice 200.
It was that God. It's just so good.
Question. 8, the FC RX-7 had a unique front headlight flasher.
How does it work? What do you mean by flasher?
Yeah you know when you when you flash your headlights, what does pops up? Nope.
So if there was a unique thing about its front, its headlights if the lights were down. Yeah.
And you want to flash your lights.
What would it do? Father, is it sleepy?
Might it just like pop it up of, you know, pushing the floor?
Something. No.
Don't have the indicators flashing that.
So basically I love well you guys are going to get it.
So underneath the actual underneath are in the front bar, there was a gap so if you flashlight it in a wooden pump the headlights shine, why would you want to drive an FC RX-7 affect the pop-up? Headlights question, 9 does a
territory where does territory turbos have the intercooler Luka? Yes, top top man.
Correct. Like a Subaru, it is like a
Subaru. WRX question. 10 true or false
the E36 M3 was available with both 5-speed manual and a slow speed manual. Rings ring.
Yes. Lee false not her David.
Yeah. Two weeks in the right?
