NHRA Nationals, Norwalk, Ohio, is out in Norwalk at America's

racetrack.

Summit Motorsports Park, what a weekend.

A dream weekend for NHRA drag racers.

And some are calling an instant classic event as we get ready

for 4th of July and the 250th birthday of the United States of

America. What is cooler than that?

Oh, my goodness.

I remember my parents brought me to Disney in 1976.

I don't really remember.

But I've seen photographs.

I was three.

And now we get to do it all again.

We get to celebrate our country and the amazement that is America.

And all of that is going to happen on WFO Ignition,

NHRA Nitro Tomorrow, one o'clock Eastern Tuesday.

I am hoping I feel like we're good.

For Mattie Gordon.

And that's that.

It's going to be Mattie.

Now, if that doesn't work out, then I'm in trouble.

But I'm putting a little faith in the racing gods.

And I think we got Mattie tomorrow.

believe it or not, like I was a little I was just a couple years older than y'all.

Because I kind of remember sporting events starting like in the early 80s,

like the Super Bowl, that Raider Super Bowl.

I remember watching that.

And so the Dodgers Yankees World Series.

Well, I was 81, right?

So, right.

So you see just a couple more years makes a big difference.

But I went to Disney and we took photos and they had the big 1776.

You can imagine Disney went crazy in 1976.

And so I've seen the photographs and that is what is imprinted on my mind

about the bicentennial.

And and I did.

David's even saying he saw the the freedom train go through.

You saw the freedom train.

Those were things we had digital and they had to do like real stuff.

You know, we had those Polaroids and you had to shake it.

Shake it.

And then you're like, oh, it was blurry.

Damn it.

Wasted.

Gone.

Oh, no.

Rats.

Yeah.

Yeah, yeah.

Days of film on your regular camera that you do.

I only have three pictures left.

I don't want to waste it.

That's not a good enough picture.

I'm waiting for the alien to come down.

Now I got to waste these pictures if I want to get the other ones developed.

And you just take three nothing pictures of just BS because you didn't get a good picture.

How do they know you're standing there at the one hour processing and all the

sudden you're watching your photos.

Then you have to look at them and I don't want like half.

Like, do I have to pay for them?

They're bad.

You didn't have to pay for the crappy ones.

They've asked the US Freedom Train was a real train with a rolling US History

Museum in it.

Steve says Steve Brenwald, who was out at the race this past week and Steve and

Andrew gave me some really nice stuff, guys.

And at the same time, I'm like, oh my gosh, I'm going to break this.

Fortunately, Rick Daddy after the race, I was like, can I put this new trailer?

And he's like, yep, I'll bring it home.

And so it is slowly grinding its way home from Norwalk.

Rich Daddy, who was almost in another final man.

We'll talk about my friend, Daddy.

Oh, quote unquote.

Like there's Rick.

And oh, you know what happened?

Could you? I mean, I said what happened and I've confirmed that's what happened.

Yeah. Yeah.

We we we looked at the numbers and the worst.

The worst loss, the most devastating loss of his career, quote unquote.

He sat by the trailer and just for two straight hours, just sat there just sitting,

just looking, just staring out into nothing devastated.

And I agree.

I felt devastated for him, too.

Oh, we did, too.

We did, too.

We were like, oh, oh, yeah.

It was it's one of the worst things that I've ever seen

because he was doing so well and he controlled the race.

He told me that, you know, for those that don't know, the wheel driving at the top

end is a big deal and it's very hard to do and all of those things.

And you only get one shot at it.

You remember me in Rockingham last year, I gave up the stripe by three to three

ten thousands or maybe it was 510 thousands or something.

You know, who knows.

But yeah.

Yeah.

But so he had a better light, a 16 to 30.

And he's got the guy.

He's going dead on.

These are things that we know now, Sue.

He was going dead on.

So he had the guy.

Yeah. And he goes up there and the guy like dropped the nose a little

and Rick started to go by him and dropped the nose a little.

And the racing god said no.

And 310 thousands of a second.

He gave up the windlight.

The other guy got there first and the other guy wins the race.

But that's not the devastating part.

That's the thing.

That's not the devastating part.

The devastating part is the next run when Glenn Butcher wins the race

and blows up and drives over his own crankshaft.

And the right. Yes.

Which means which means whoever won the other pair is going to get a

buy run and win the race.

Yep. And Rick was going to win.

It was a it was a win.

And 310 thousands of a second that he gave it back after having

the better light.

Unfortunately, he did not win.

He lost.

Yeah. And he was just.

And you know, in that moment.

The man in the arena.

Like, you know, there's nothing you can say to console its days, its weeks.

It's really never.

You'll never get over Macho Grande.

Never. No.

And I just, you know, I went and sat with him and we had a

ice cold and refreshing course light.

And I gave him the stuff and they are headed back now.

Hey, hey, he did good.

I look.

One thing that we've all learned with dry gracing, it is the most

humbling sport going and it is the one sport that you need to learn how to lose

because happens.

Winning is the toughest part.

Learning how to lose is, you know, you're going to lose more than you're going to win.

I hate to say it outside of even the real special ones.

But yeah, it's just a tough sport, but that's what that's what drives us.

That's why we do it.

It's not easy. Yeah.

Got to, you know, it tests you every time.

Oh, it truly does.

And just seeing him there and I'm thinking about like, oh, gosh, like,

what can I say to make this guy feel better?

And the answer is nothing.

There's nothing. There's nothing.

This is just what what it is.

Is the pain of knowing that you'll never get this opportunity again.

Seventy-fifth season of the NHRE.

It's for it's a forever mistake.

Yeah. But at least.

And this is where I where I find the silver lining.

He still has more opportunities.

Sure. But you're never going to win some at Motorsports Park.

On the like, you're never going to win the Summit Racing Equipment

NHRE Nationals again and the Seventy-fifth year of the NHRE.

Yeah, you know, it's it should have been his the scoop

because he got the bowl the last week.

He gave me this wonderful hat, which is a trophy, the Lucas Oil win hat,

which you're very familiar with.

Yeah, very.

Because he won last week.

Rick won last week.

This guy is putting up a tremendous claim.

And that's what he said.

Yeah. To his world championship claim, which is trying to do.

But here's where I came down just before we move forward.

You know, at least he's not a gladiator in the Roman Coliseum who lost.

Those those that was disappointing.

That's where disappointment was all.

I really like this guy.

He's killing his butts.

And then for like three weeks, this is my favorite gladiator.

And he's like, well, it's just what people are talking about.

And like, listen, you can't do that.

So the long national nightmare of SVG not winning on the road

course is over at one race.

Hey, I love the fact that he started off the race gone.

Like on it's going out.

Can't get control of it.

You know, and then he goes on and Tiger's give him credit.

But, you know, SVG leads 74 of 110 laps.

But we got to get the notable the tiger.

The big bill deal like Gio just sent me this thing with big bill France

about Tony Stewart talking about big bill and how he would get mad at you

if you stunk up the show like, Hey, man, don't you stink up my show now?

And SVG got the message.

He's like, all right, I'll lay off.

I'm going to play it back and, you know, but hey, it was it was Sonoma.

It was beautiful views of wine country as they're going around the track.

It got a little competitive towards the end with Chase Briscoe and an SVG.

You know, we did actually have chasing him chasing him down at the end.

No pun intended. Yeah, he was.

We don't know if it goes a few more laps, but he got the lead down to about a second.

You know, from about five or six seconds in the last, you know, what?

15 laps or so.

He was taking, you know, but, you know, do we really know five more laps?

Does he catch him or does SVG just kind of start playing with him and pull away?

Right. It was saving tires.

But at the last turn, you know, he got as close as he could.

He was like, if he had been about two or three tenths closer,

he might have bumped him on that. What turn 10, I guess it is.

Yes.

Morning to the last turn, man.

Chase made it, got it close, but no cigar.

And that's where we're going next with the NHRA is Sonoma, which is going to be cool.

Chase Briscoe, second tie Gibbs, third tie started from the pole.

Kyle Larson, Chris Bell, Ryan Blaney, Connor Zillich, Ryan Priest, Michael

Where, you know, I was getting live updates from the gray and he's like, it's not looking good.

Well, I mean, look, to be fair, I told everyone last week that this was not a Ferrari race track.

And.

Lewis says that he's actually impressed.

That it's one of his better runs there that he finished fifth.

Yeah, you know, once again, Ferrari, just a straight line speed is just not quite there.

But we'll see.

Hopefully they're going to bring up a few more, a couple of more upgrades to Silverstone this week.

And it's a track that's a little better suited for their style of vehicle right now.

But, man, Max Verstappen showed that he might be the fastest car on track.

He was this race.

And I think Red Bull kind of blew it a little bit.

We don't really know because they had an opportunity where Max is,

you know, tracking down George Russell.

And he got to within a second of him before the pitstop sequence.

And then Red Bull decided to keep him on the track for like an extra, I don't know,

at least a handful of laps where he was losing a second and a half lap on the new tires.

By the time he pitted and came out, he was 11 seconds back.

And he had to cut it down.

And at the last, you know, he was chasing them down again.

And he got to within under a second in the last lap, but it was just too much.

And both, both second and third were under two seconds of the winner

because Kimi was right right on Max's ass, too.

They were both chasing George down.

At least Russell won and not Antonelli won.

Yes. So Russell won and Max comes in second and Antonelli third.

Antonelli still has a big overall lead in the driver's championship.

Russell takes over second over Lewis once again,

because Lewis did his best and held the Ferrari to fifth

in spite of being slow and terrible.

And as you see, Charles was only able to come home eighth.

He couldn't even keep the red bull behind him.

Keep sharp objects away from Charles.

Yeah, like, you know, it's unfortunately for him, I think I heard him

like the translation of what he said was that the big fat contract

is weighing the car down.

That's it. He's just now he's got the money.

He doesn't need to try anymore. That's right.

I got the money.

Quickly over the driver's championship, Kimi's got 171 points.

George is now 40 behind with 131.

Lewis has got 125, so he's six behind George.

And then there's a nice 45 back is Oscar Piazzari in fourth as 80 points.

And then Charles and Landor tied for fifth with 79 point each.

Max quickly jumps up to 77 for 73 points.

And then after that, there's another big jump to Hajar's 42 points.

And Pierre Gatley has 41 and Liam Losson rounds of the rounds at the top

10 with 30 points. There you have it.

Those are the drive championship.

Did you watch the race?

I did, yes.

Yeah, it was a good overtaken and a bit of good hassle there, wouldn't you say?

There was a lot of good racing all over the track, not just

just not really at the front, but.

And Kimi got a little unlucky because he was out in the pit stop sequence leading

and right as he goes in and takes the pit,

Carlos signs breaks and brings out the the virtual safety car,

which if it comes out even half a lap later,

Kimi might have the advantage and is able to pit from the from the front

with the virtual safety car and and might have been able to keep the lead.

But he doesn't.

And I mean, I wouldn't say that that was it just wasn't

good luck as it definitely wasn't bad luck.

I say it just could have had good luck and didn't have it.

But yeah, Mercedes did show that that they're so far still the class of the field.

But, you know, Max Verstappen and the Red Bull are right there again.

And the Ferraris hopefully now, you know, they'll continue to bring the upgrades

and we'll give them a run. They're still, you know, 14 races left.

Long way to go.

You look like a noticeable improvement in performance from the Red Bulls,

that's for sure. Absolutely.

Because it wasn't just Max had you are had a pretty pretty quick car there.

All kinds of places whatever he wants, which I don't know if if that's gonna

But you know, it might be a little too early in the season in the silly season to to know if there's anything

You know serious there, but obviously if he's intending to leave him behind the behind the scenes

But it was a disallowed after var replays

Say that there was interference with the goalie which uh licked a little iffy to me

But hey, i'm not up to date on my full soccer rules. And so they say it's a penalty

It's a penalty and a goal comes off the board and the game continues to the 120th minute in a 11 tie

over germany so in the first real upset so far and uh right now

And we're at the end of the first quarter in the hydration break

The dragster is spot on new mac fab wheels

Are on it with the new mark williams brakes and oh my goodness that thing is phenomenal. So

um, yeah, I think that thing is

Ready to go. So we got to do a few more things. So it's easier for david for getting in and out

And getting himself belted in and we did a couple more tweaks in my car. So

So, yeah, we were we got some other things figured out but on that note

I got to give congratulations to dallas calvert who won one in pro at greer

in uh the uh footbreak class

And uh, but you know thinking of your local tracks to get out there and do things

Go support your local tracks if you like racing the national events are great the divisional

But there's so much out there that you can do so don't forget about the small tracks

Uh, um your local tracks go racing go support them and go have fun

And then the other thing is hey, it's the fourth of july. It's 250 50 years of america

We're going to go out and celebrate

I'm going to be with my friend of mine who's a region of the daughters of the american revolution

So we're going to be doing giving out

250 america happy birthday celebration things. I don't know what i'm giving away, but it's going to be something and we're going to do something for

The veterans on uh on saturday. So uh, so yeah, we're looking forward to it. So
