NASCAR is a popular kind of car racing in the U.S. where race cars run on mostly oval tracks. The cars are based on regular models, but they’re built for racing.
IndyCar (IndyCar Series) is a top-level American open-wheel racing series. Cars are purpose-built for high-speed road courses and ovals, and the series is known for aerodynamic downforce and fast pit cycles.
NHRA drag racing is a type of racing where cars race in a straight line to see who accelerates the fastest. It’s usually run as head-to-head elimination races.
A caution is when the race is slowed down because of something on track. It can change strategy because cars may pit and the pack gets closer together.
Term
end of race situation
The end-of-race situation is what happens near the finish when something changes on track. In F1, late cautions can decide who wins because the race restarts and teams have to react fast.
Topic
five laps
A “lap” is one full trip around the race track. “Five laps” just means they’re talking about a short stretch of racing.
They’re talking about a Ferrari model that includes “12” in the name. It usually points to a V12-style Ferrari, but the exact car model isn’t specified here.
Chicagoland Speedway is a NASCAR race track near Chicago. It’s where NASCAR holds races, and the track’s oval layout makes strategy and timing really important.
Adrian Newey is a famous race-car designer in Formula 1. When people say they “wanted Newey,” they mean they hoped his design skills would help a team win.
Term
fog your engine down
“Fogging” an engine is a storage trick. You spray a special protective oil so metal parts don’t rust while the car sits. Race teams do it when the engine won’t be used for a while.
The Nissan Serena is a minivan, which is a type of car built to carry people comfortably. It’s meant for families or groups that need extra space and easy entry. It’s usually discussed for practicality more than speed.
This means you have to be officially approved to race in certain drag events. The organization checks that you and your car meet their rules and safety requirements.
It’s the group that officially “approves” the race and makes sure everyone follows the same rules. Different groups can have slightly different rules for the cars and drivers.
Fogging is a storage step where you coat the engine internals so they don’t rust while the car sits. It’s like putting a protective layer on the parts that would otherwise corrode.
Term
run the valves
“Run the valves” implies cycling the valvetrain (opening/closing valves) as part of a post-storage check. On many performance engines, this helps confirm nothing is sticking and that the timing/clearances and lubrication are behaving before racing.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is a pickup truck that runs on electricity instead of gasoline. It’s built to do typical truck jobs like carrying things, but with an electric motor. People talk about it because the driving experience is different from gas trucks.
LIVE
This is Joe Costello's WFR Radio Ignition, covering everything that has wheels, an engine, and a driver.
The reason I race is to get the chicks, you know what I mean?
NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula One, sports cars, and NHRA drag racing.
Hey guys, just want to let you know WFR Rock.
WFR Radio is total motorsports.
It's just so cool.
Fasten your seatbelts, fire up the ignition, and drop the hammer.
Yeah, let's do it.
Now, here's your host, Joe Costello.
Thanks Mitch.
The great Mitch Phillips on our voiceover.
I don't know if you guys know about Mitch.
Mitch does papas in the house and countless other VO stuff.
I got to reach out to Mitch.
It's been a minute.
How's everybody doing out there?
Ignition on the air.
Hopefully you had a great 4th of July weekend.
Celebrated America 250 and July 4th, and all the great fun things that go on.
Almost exclusively in the United States of America.
We had a great time.
I enjoyed it tremendously.
It was awesome, and we are going to celebrate.
But also on this show, the audio only version ignition for our podcast listeners and everybody out there.
We appreciate you greatly.
Our patrons who get to watch the video.
This show is being done at a slightly special time because we're going to be all pro America.
Then we got to be there for our fellow Americans when they go up against Belgium in the World Cup.
And so we have all the power brokers on the on the show like Giovanni in Miami.
What's up Giovanni?
How are you?
All right.
That's right.
That's right.
And Sue Morris.
Sue.
How are you?
USA.
USA.
Coming off of America 250.
Right.
That's the thing guys.
If you're America is not juiced up, then I don't know what's going to take to get it going because we have got the United States in an
international competition right after America 250.
We should all be really geeked up.
We got to win this one.
Let's go.
Come on.
Let's go.
USA.
USA.
USA.
And if it doesn't work out, right?
Like that's what people don't understand.
I don't think is then if that's it, it's over four years and probably never again in our lifetime.
Now that's not true.
When will it be in the United States of America again?
When will the World Cup be hosted in America again?
Will it be over under 20 years?
You know, you're going to be, I'm going to be a 70 year old man.
I was trying to color it with some.
Is that what you're going to make?
That would be 32 years since the previous time we did.
Look at Geo coming in with a real number.
Way to go.
31.
1994.
We, we hosted 1994.
So that was 32 years.
So 32 years.
So let's hope it's not 32 years again, but maybe it will be 32 years.
Maybe it'll be a long time.
Everyone's having a good time.
It might be next year, but this ain't happening again.
This is a once in a lifetime for us.
For us.
So we'll, you know, what are you going to do?
Well, wait, and we already know Portugal lost to Spain.
Spain awaits on the other side of the ladder on the top of the quarterfinal.
It's France and Morocco, Norway knocked out Brazil.
They're going to go up against England.
Yup.
Who took out Mexico.
That was a huge game Sunday night,
Mexico and England.
It was delayed because of the weather for two.
Whoa, pretty late.
I started away.
Well, like past 10 o'clock here on the East coast,
but turned out to be a pretty exciting game.
A lot of, a lot of scoring three to two.
That's a big, a lot of action in the soccer game.
A lot of scoring.
That was a wild game.
The Mexico game.
My goodness.
It was, it was insane and talk about a home field advantage.
The Mexicans, they had a home field advantage.
Like every single person was rooting for them,
but that is only the first of the international competitions
that we will be enjoying and discussing a little bit as Ferrari.
Victorious again.
Now both Ferraris have punched it in the winter circle.
We're going to get into that.
Charles Leclerc goes out there and just has a great race.
Just has a really good race.
Had a lot of pace was fast, fast enough won the race.
Just like that.
Wow.
No blanket either.
We had two Ferraris on the podium.
No, no, the car finally got used to the big weight,
the extra weight from the heavy contract.
So he got, brought in the wind now.
Great job by Charles.
Held off, was holding off Kimi who was 10 laps,
had 10 laps better tires there on that, on that second run
and had cut the lead down to what about 545 seconds
before he had his issue.
But either way, once that happened, that's it.
It was just Charles in charge, baby.
And unfortunately NASCAR, I mean, F1 could learn a little something
from NASCAR towards their cautions and end of race situation
because geez, that car, that caution came out with 48 on lap 48
of 52 and they just went five laps at that long ass track,
you know, under caution behind the safety car.
And when it looked like they were going to give us the final lap
under green, they said, no, change your mind.
And, but other than that, and, you know, Ferrari one,
which, which I'm glad, but, you know, it just kind of takes away a little bit
of the, of the steam, they're going five laps out of the last, you know,
in the 52 lap, the last five laps in a 52 lap race under caution.
Right.
It's tough.
It's tough.
What do you do?
You bring them down pit road, you red flag them, you shut them off.
Well, I mean, I guess in F1 where it's not quite like NASCAR
that they just stop them, you know, on the back stretch
and they turn them back on and different technology.
Like that's very reliable.
Look, I don't know, but they, they could come up with something.
They're pretty freaking smart over there.
Maybe they can have like a, a last five lap red flag where, you know,
the car stopped on the starting grid in the order that they're running
and you can only go back out there to restart them that you can't do.
You can't work on them.
The drivers can't come out of the car.
Unlike all their other red flags where, you know, when they red flag,
it's like, oh, everybody comes out of the car.
We're going to take a break.
We're going to have lunch.
We'll be back in about 45 minutes.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know.
I get what you're saying.
I think they need to figure out how to just clean things up a little quicker.
But whatever, five laps.
Lewis would have probably passed Russell.
Russell said that it would have been a Ferrari 12
Russell had nothing for Charles.
So that's that.
In the end, forza Ferrari, a tremendous victory.
And all of a sudden the spark of hope is alive, right?
The spark of hope like, wow, you know, because that Mercedes is not reliable.
It's not reliable.
It breaks.
It breaks a lot.
They're getting one over the finish line most days and that's it.
So very exciting stuff.
We'll dig a little bit more deeply a little bit later on in the show.
Chase Briscoe got the job done out there in Chicagoland.
And the return, the Euro 400 Chicagoland Speedway, the big return.
I was thinking during the race, we need this race to be successful.
Because if NASCAR keeps that racetrack because it's doing well,
then the drag strip will probably continue to exist.
Yeah.
And if NASCAR says, you know, this market, this track kind of sucks.
Let's just sell it.
Let's get rid of it.
It's over.
Then the drag strip will go with it.
As I understand, so that's good news.
I did not know that suit.
Yeah.
No, it was a sellout.
Sold out event.
Tremendous.
Chase Briscoe, Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin, the top three,
William Byron, Alex Bowman, Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney,
Ty Gibbs, Corey Heim and Riley Erbs,
rounding out the top 10 remainder of the results are available online.
And I see our Patreons are signing on.
I got Bobby Graham down there.
I got Matt in Australia down there.
I got Monica down there.
I got a bunch of people, even though we're early D rail is down there.
What's up?
Right.
And all you Patreons who are watching the video.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We appreciate you.
And this is part of your Patreon member benefits.
You get to see Giovanni Miami and his Uncle Sam had.
And we see Megan is signing on and it's great news.
It is great news.
But what we agreed to, right?
Like we had a little pre-show meeting earlier today.
And like guys and Gio came up with the idea we should go early so that
we're not like doing a disservice to the audience by going like,
ah, ah, ah, during the World Cup match.
Right.
You said we got to get done before the match starts.
Got to get done before the match.
Got to get done.
So if you're watching or listening tomorrow, you know,
you know the results.
Are these guys going to be happy or they're going to be disappointed?
Look, the whole thing is growing expectations.
Most people think the United States is good enough to get out of the
group stage.
And when may be around.
Not going to the final.
Right.
That's, that's kind of where we are.
We all said that we all were like, ah, I don't think so.
This year there was an extra round of knockout eliminations and we won
that first one.
So now we got to win this one to get down to the round of eight,
which would have been, you know, in the last World Cup,
it would have been just winning one game.
Gotcha.
This is and, you know, I'm not a World Cup guy.
I'm not a soccer guy.
I'm not into any of this stuff.
Typically this is about America.
It's not about anything other than the United States of America and our,
you know, our greatness at something that everybody else deems
important.
So we should might as well dominate the rest of the world just like
everything else.
And we're not, for whatever reason, that great at this.
If we were to win this game,
that would show forward progress.
Fair.
Absolutely.
Yes.
All we have to do is win this too.
And if you want,
it's the minimum that would have been acceptable for this team.
And that's where they're at.
But now winning this game is definitely, you know, showing
progress, at least in my opinion.
But, you know, what do I know?
I'm not.
It would be the furthest we've gone since like 1924 or something.
No, I don't know about that.
1924.
Yeah.
Come on.
1924 playing soccer.
America.
United States.
Let me see that.
You better go check your facts.
Check your facts on that one.
Listen, I got yours.
I listen.
There's Bobby Graham, everybody.
I don't remember even hearing anything about soccer until like I was,
I don't know, like third or fourth grade.
We met this time in 1930, which was real.
There you go.
1930.
I said 20.
I was off by six years talking about 100 years ago.
I think I'm going to showcase Joe down.
Thank you.
What the heck?
Yeah, man.
This is what's going on.
Well,
24 years ago, we made the quarters, which would be where we get to if we
went this round in 2000.
Put them on the bottom of this moment.
We made the course.
We made the quarters.
We played the team beat Mexico in the round of 16 and then they lost one
nothing to Germany in the quarters.
Okay.
That was all the South Korea,
California.
this is it.
We got, we got.
We don't have to worry about, about the Germans in this particular case
or the Brazilians.
Like who knows what's happening.
Maybe the,
maybe the stars are aligning.
You got to get through Spain and we'll see.
Bobby Graham is here.
Hello, Bobby.
How are you?
How's wonderful.
I'm doing better.
Better.
What, what was happening that you were, you were doing worse.
We had little issues around here for the holiday.
Oh, no.
You didn't short fuse.
Wasn't a short fuse problem. Was it?
Well, sort of blew a fuse.
We had air conditioner left the house on the first and I did not get it
back till the fourth about.
We had no problems right there.
We had, we had guests from Iowa.
Down.
And let me tell you, they were not used to the heat.
Four days and left and went home.
Oh, sorry, Bob.
Are you sure there wasn't any kind of sabotage there?
Maybe leave a little early or what?
Bobby's, Bobby just flipped the switch off.
Bobby's like, yeah, I don't know what's wrong with the air.
Sure.
Oh, man.
They left irony of this is they came to visit us four years earlier.
And the same thing happened then.
Oh, well,
I don't know.
There's, there's a trend to happen in the house anymore.
The polarity is off.
Some sort of electrical glitch inside them is causing your air
conditioner to break.
That's right.
Right.
Clearly some people have got that.
The fawns used to be able to just kick things and fix them.
These people, they show up in the air breaks.
Well, sorry.
Sorry about that.
But we made, we got it done.
We got it fixed.
Yes.
Did you give them travel vouchers?
No.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I had to give them a hotel room, but they didn't take it.
Yeah.
Look, we got D rail enabled this camera for a second.
Fleetry's got his camera enabled and everybody wants to get in on
the action.
So let's knock out our fantasy results, Bobby.
So we can go very quickly to the next phase.
All right.
Now this is the winner of the race.
The winner was top fuel champ, 12, 15.
All right.
Second place Royal flush racing.
Oh, okay.
18 points behind third place.
Olsen's dad trailblazers.
I can't say that fast for no reason.
But 28 points behind in third place and WF Joe.
Oh, Joe was fourth.
Yeah.
49 points back.
I want to recount.
I want to recount.
Not yet begun to fight.
You finally get up there.
Fifth place be like Bill 33 points behind sixth place.
Intimidator Harley 49 points behind seventh fantasy clueless.
50 points behind.
Yes.
And PT 14 52 points behind in eighth place.
Ninth was bulls wool.
53 and 10th place was big C.
177 or big.
Big 177.
I can't read.
I've heard of.
I don't remember.
Big C.
177.
Yeah.
Big C.
177.
But that's our race score winners for the race.
Now for everybody's won't just standings for the season.
First place bulls wool.
Second place team 12 90 points behind.
Third place.
Olson's dad trailblazers.
36 behind.
He's doing such a great job.
Fourth place be like Biff.
158 behind.
Fifth place.
Down one spot.
Is Mr. Fantasy NASCAR at 162 points.
Second place.
Sixth place.
Down four spots.
Hey did you see.
Was Megan.
No.
Say it ain't so.
Megan.
Come on.
You can.
Racing 171 behind.
Eighth place PT 14.
220 points behind.
Ninth place.
Intimidator Harley.
292 behind.
And in 10th place was Zamboni John.
In 297.
And just for giggles.
There's.
11th place is Southern Racer X.
12th.
This guy bug barren.
13th place is Clueless.
Wow.
And Geo.
Down one.
You're in 16th.
I think bounced up.
No.
I'm in the playoff.
No.
Hey Joe has.
Oh no.
No, no.
No, no.
To save fun.
But that's our standings for the season so far.
All right.
Good job Bobby Graham.
Fantasy Trophy is back there.
Good luck to everyone.
Keep playing hard.
Keep playing hard and we'll go.
I noticed Bobby you're wearing your Aaron Stanfield T-shirt.
That's kind of cool.
Yeah.
We traded up.
Yeah.
Me last week.
Right.
Double A man.
Double A.
I got the strategy.
Come on.
Get it done.
Double A.
Yes he does.
We have Fleetree is out there.
What's up Fleetree.
What's up Fleetree.
What's going on guys.
How are you?
I'm doing good.
I have actually.
Started.
I guess early enough for me to get in and.
and I'm properly dressed and everything.
So I could show.
I just need to wear.
Wait, we like you properly dressed.
Least clothes.
I don't think I'm properly dressed, that's for sure.
So for those that don't know,
typically we record the show between 8 p.m. Eastern
and 9 30 p.m. Eastern is a good ballpark,
starting closer to eight more often than not.
On this given day, we started closer to 7 p.m. Eastern
so that when we were wrapping up,
the soccer will be just getting going
and we can support our great nation.
That's the plan at least.
And so way to go, Fletcher.
Thank you very much for signing on and saying what's up.
Yeah, I try not to, like I see the,
y'all put the link there or whatever.
And then I was like, I kind of want to get in,
but then I don't because I usually check the podcast
tomorrow while I'm working.
Do you want to say something to yourself tomorrow
that might motivate you?
Like, you know, is there a way for you to go
into the future?
This is your chance.
I don't know if I'm smart enough to figure that one out.
Well, ask Matt.
Matt might be able to tell you what's happening in the future.
Yeah, I'm barely confident to do this part, you know.
That's in the future.
He could tell you what happened.
Might be able to tell you some lottery numbers.
Yeah, there you go.
Matt seems to be struggling as well.
He's frozen.
After tomorrow, you'll know who won.
Yeah.
Everybody's in, look, D-Rail is,
D-Rail, can you talk in this situation
or would you rather remain silent?
I could talk.
All right.
All right, says you.
That's okay.
Everybody will catch everybody
while they're still at work, Gio.
That's what it is.
Everybody's still, you know,
if you're west, it's central time zone,
you're still on the clock a little bit.
Thank you.
No, we lost to D-Rail.
We did.
Oh, well, that was the thought that counts.
What's up, Matt in Australia?
How are you?
Good, hey, guys.
Yeah, good.
Are you have you recovered?
From the disappointment.
From the disappointment, yes.
Yeah, yes.
How does, you know, like, I hope that doesn't happen to us,
but it might, you know, like it might just be over.
How does the how does that?
How does that?
How do people react?
Yeah, how's it bounce?
Yeah, not good.
I think our coach had a bit of a brain fart,
to be honest with you.
Oh, no.
Like he swapped out the goalkeeper
for the penalty shootout.
They had a, the goalkeeper they've had in most of the tournament
has been, you would say, a second tier goalkeeper,
but he has been performing at such a high level
that he's got the gig and they put the first tier guy in.
Would it made a difference who knows really, but...
A hot hand.
He took out the hot hand, the guy with the hot hand.
Well, that's what people are saying.
That's what coaching is.
You got to know who's got the hot hand, who's hot.
It's not about the numbers.
It's about, you know, riding the energy and sensing it.
Well, to me, you'd leave the guy in there
that's warmed up and ready to go, right?
He's got his eye in, but ironically,
one of the boys in my soccer team
used to play soccer with the coach of the Australian team.
And it's a trait of his.
He tells me all the way back to when he was in his early 20s
that he made some...
He overthinks things.
That's it.
Oh, I got it.
Well, no, just overthinks it.
Yeah, just not questionable.
Well, I guess I end up being questionable decisions,
but he overthinks the situation
rather than just going with the flow.
And he's done that in the domestic competition
down here as well when he coached the team.
When he first took on the team,
he just went with the flow and everything was going well.
And then as the team got some greater success,
he moved into making these...
These decisions that made no sense.
So, yeah.
Seems to be he's done the same thing for the World Cup.
Well, a lot of teams that get upset and disappointment.
I saw the Deutschland, the Germans,
fire their coach upon arrival.
I think they made a swim back.
It is what I heard.
Yeah, yeah.
But yeah, it's been a great competition.
And that big game yesterday with Mexico and England
was unbelievable.
Yeah, that was entertaining.
Even if you're a board by soccer
because there's not enough scoring,
that had enough going on to keep an NFL fan interested.
There was the spacing of the action.
There was action nonstop, which was good.
Things happening.
We'll get to that in sports collision though.
We're going to be aggressively pursuing the next topic
as any other thoughts about Formula One
that we need to talk about other than the race did not restart.
That is annoying.
But Ferrari now with the both drivers scoring victories,
I think is a tremendous deal.
And if you look at Charles winning the race,
George Russel finishing second,
which is kind of a lucky anomaly.
And Lewis Hamilton on the podium with Kimi Antonelli
not scoring points.
Suddenly you look at the driver's championship
and you got Kimi over Russell 179 to 154
and Lewis Hamilton 147.
So it's tight and then Charles 108.
So it's tightened up considerably
between the two Mercedes guys,
which that George Russel wants to win a championship.
Suddenly he's back in the mix.
And then Lewis is right behind.
So this thing is wide open.
This could go anywhere.
And Ferrari's got a reasonably fast race car,
not as fast as the Mercedes, but maybe we're reliable.
Constructors 333 to 255 over Ferrari.
That one seems a little more distant,
a little over 80 points.
What say you, Gio?
Oh, well, it's great to see them come back.
They were still throughout the weekend
considerably slower on the straightaways.
But a lot of racing to go.
A lot of racing to go.
There's talk that they might,
that the Bahrain race might get run somewhere
further down the schedule again.
And we'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks.
The next race is Belgium, I believe, is where they're headed.
Right?
Is that where they're going?
Yes, I think so.
Line 19, which is two weeks from this weekend.
So one week off and then Belgium and Hungary back to back.
And it's great to see the right sled out there winning races.
Now both guys have won a race and they're going to,
you know, they're going to bring it to Mercedes
and see what we got.
That's it.
That's all you can ask.
It's a tremendous victory.
Ferrari, the world, right?
Like so much joy comes into the world when Ferrari wins.
Really amazing.
Really amazing.
Good for Charles to deliver.
Lots of joy comes into South Florida,
but yeah, the world is the most popular of all the teams out there,
just by numbers.
Hello.
And all over the everywhere.
Come on, Ferrari wins.
We're excited.
Yeah, I hear you.
How should you get here in time?
I'm not here yet.
Come on.
I'm not here yet.
Just get you all.
I'm not here yet.
I'm not here yet.
I thought you liked Ferrari.
I'm under the impression.
I do.
I do.
Do you?
I do.
I do, too.
Not sure.
Not so sure.
That's how I got it.
Oh, I've got to keep you guessing, you know.
All right.
That's fine.
I've got to say the racing,
some of the racing has been quite exciting.
Yes, visually exciting.
Hey, look, Max is fast.
You're all pretty wrecked.
Yeah.
You know, Max is the one that brought up that late race caution,
and he was pretty fast all weekend, too.
Once they, yeah.
Once they're able to figure out the balance of the car for him
and the degradation or whatever their issue is,
they could be a problem, too.
Because, you know, we know he could drive.
I've heard of him.
And I think it all does.
Well, it goes with their side.
It all revolves around him.
But Hadja was actually quicker than him in qualifying.
Is that right?
I think Ja, he was fierce.
Wow.
I can look it up if you like.
Yeah, that doesn't matter.
But there was something to come up on.
He was on playing in F1 or something.
But Alonzo, yet again, saying I'm flipping, playing button sports
or something like that, he said.
I saw that, too.
That Andrea Monaco was the worst car combination that he's ever driven.
He's never.
He's definitely not having fun driving this this rendition
of the Formula One car.
That makes sense.
And the Adri and U.E. input hasn't hasn't come to fruition either.
That's for sure.
I'm glad you brought that up, Matt.
For all the money.
Glad you brought that up.
It occurred to me a couple of weeks ago,
and it's just it's like a negative take.
And so it's not the first thing at the top of my mind.
But remember how badly.
The Ferrari fans wanted Adrian Newie.
Like it was a desperate moment that they wanted Adrian
Newie that Adrian Newie was going to deliver.
And that said, Adrian Newie was the guy who got to have him.
And here we are.
And Adrian Newie is not delivering.
And in another sporting world, like I'm kind of wondering,
like when will that conversation begin?
Like yo, bro.
And the other sport, the super coveted free agent had coach
or player or quarterback or under any circumstance.
Right.
And Gio would back it up in sports collision.
The super coveted high dollar free agent goes to the new team
and fails to deliver.
It's usually.
It's a coach.
It's someone in the administration, whether he's GM or coach,
I wouldn't consider.
He's also designing the car.
He's kind of part of it too.
That's why he's like the, you know, like, like the guy in charge.
I wouldn't necessarily, you know, General Mangler, the Tom Brady.
But but yeah, when in this case, I mean, certainly this is what
his first season there were only about what 89 races
into a 22, possibly more race season.
And we'll see.
It doesn't look good though.
And remember, they got new engines too.
Also, I write them.
They change engine manufacturers also.
So it is a complete, a whole complete redo over there.
And while it is fair to question what's going on,
I think it is a little too soon to, to maybe, you know,
start calling for the hot seat.
Yes.
No, I, yeah.
I swear.
I totally agree.
But Mr. Stroll doesn't seem to have your.
Patience Gio from if he's, history's any indicator
of future events, he doesn't seem to have your, your, your
patience.
That's for sure.
Right.
There has been, there has been a, a long list of.
Clearly he is definitely a much better businessman and manager
of corporations or whatever he, it is he does to, to have all
that, all those billions of dollars and businesses.
But in this particular case, he, you know, when you're going
to spend that kind of money, you might be wise to just at least
give it a shot, man, new regulations, all kinds of stuff.
I think three years, you got to give like, you got to give
the guy three seasons, the first season to set things up the way
he wants the second season to begin the execution.
And then the third season is like the real go out of it.
I feel it's the same for a head coach and the NFL as well.
Well, that's how it used to be.
You had the five year plan before they, you know,
but now it is definitely by, by year three, you need to show
progress or else you might be out the door.
That's right.
I just want to let everybody know that.
At least you're in our sport, in American sports, typically.
I don't, I don't know what it sounded like, but they did have
Matthew McConaughey give the dramatic pregame read.
That is part of every sporting event that is about to happen.
You know, like the dramatic read of something.
Yeah.
Like the voice over of the open over over the open.
And so Matthew McConaughey did that.
So, you know, I hope the DVR and we'll go back and watch.
But how could it be bad?
I mean, all right, right.
That's it.
It's over and over again.
All right.
He was in my pocket working for the city.
His voice and said a bunch of cool words and ended it by saying go team USA.
That's exactly.
I just like that too.
Right.
Smooth, smooth Matthew McConaughey.
I get older.
They stay the same age.
Yeah.
Good stuff.
Good stuff.
All right.
NHRA drag racing.
NHRA and Nitro tomorrow.
I want everybody to know that Ron Kapps on.
Maddie Gordy's team owner, Ron Kapps, who also won his 80th win.
Papps is going to be on.
Sadie Glenn is going to be on.
All right.
You got a lot of pub time, but she hadn't been on WFO yet.
So it's going to be a big deal.
She's not.
I was wondering.
Yes.
What the heck?
I will say that I do have a surprise prepared for Sadie, which will be fun for everybody, I think.
And also Kenny Labansky, who is the head starter.
He is the modern era buster couch.
Nobody knows.
Kenny, we're going to take a deep dive with Kenny Labansky and find out who this guy is
and why he wants such a pressure pack job.
Why do you want to do this, dude?
So that's all coming up tomorrow.
I do want to shout out to a couple of people before we make the transition to sports collision
and a couple of other things.
If you're a WFO Patreon, thank you very much.
We did our first RL shirt club giveaway today.
And Bob H. from Ohio won the RL shirt club shirt, which is cool.
So thank you patrons for being supporters of the show.
If you're a listener to the show, you can check out RL shirt club.
This is the red line shirt club.
Scott Bathhurst from classic graphics administers it for 26 dollars a month.
You get a shirt shipped to your door, which is great.
You don't know what it is, but it's a classic drag racing t-shirt like a retro drag racing
t-shirt. And all the ones I've seen have been super cool.
I think it is great.
It's artwork.
And one of our patrons each month is going to get it.
Bob H. from Ohio got his earlier today.
You can get his.
He's got drawn as the winner.
Bob H. We want to know when you receive the shirt.
Yes. Yes.
We definitely want to make sure you receive the shirt, Bob H.
Oh, wait.
You're not shipping it out.
It's not you, Joe.
Oh, okay.
Bob H. you're getting a shirt.
No worries.
This program is so great, Sue.
I like and so Scott, you'll be the one sending it out.
Yes.
So I just send you the guy's name and address.
Yes.
Deal.
We're doing it.
Done.
Side sealed.
Yes.
I do think the patrons got away.
By the way, if you want to hear more, go back to last week's show
after the Maddie interview and you'll hear all about it.
Yes.
He was great.
He was.
Because your internet froze.
He carried the show for like five minutes.
It was, it was like, it was good.
He was left alone.
He's like, well, I don't know if I'm still on, but yeah.
I like those shirts.
Now the podcast listeners, they didn't get any of that.
I cut all the dead air out.
But the show.
Oh, but if you go watch it again, I watched it on YouTube.
The one that went on PowerTube TV was also edited.
The one that was on YouTube.
Was not.
Nope.
I just let it be.
Yep.
I just let it be.
I could probably go back and fix that now.
But what's the point?
People like reality.
Come on.
Yeah, I think no AI.
No AI.
No AI.
All right.
So anyway, patrons, appreciate you greatly.
If you're not a patron working to encourage new membership.
Not by begging you to join by doing a great job for the people who are already members.
They seem to be super happy and hopefully going to get happier and happier.
Also want to shout out to Marvin Rodak,
rodexcoffeeandgrills.com, Marvin, 817-924-6821.
We love this guy, the coffee, the spice rub, the hot sauce.
Absolutely love Marvin and still enjoy the coffee so much.
Fog it.
Gary Stinnett's brand available at Summit Racing Equipment.
You definitely need to have a can in your house.
But if you're a race team, you got to fog your engine down.
That was my big plan for today.
Go fog the project Pontiac, but I didn't get to it.
Bernie's Speed Shop.
B-U-R-N-Y-Z-Z.com.
Bernie's 100,000 square feet up there in Ocala, Florida.
Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School.
Appreciate Frank.
Dragster Adventure.
That's the way to go if you've never driven a dragster.
Hustyperformance.net.
Redline Synthetic Oil.
FTI Performance Transmissions and Torque Converters.
Jesse Converters, Total Seal and Larisse Motorsports Insurance.
These are the companies that bring you WFO radio.
And we greatly appreciate them.
And yes, that Maddie Gordon interview last week.
Everybody loved it.
The clips, the stories, the fact that I was somehow involved.
How did that happen?
I played, I had a hand in it, literally.
Amazing stuff.
Amazing stuff.
Let's do sports collision, Geo,
since we're getting closer and closer
to the start of this future soccer match.
All right, sports collision.
Well, the main huge thing going on in the sports world
is the World Cup Soccer Tournament.
As everyone knows, Team USA will be playing right now
in the next few minutes against Belgium.
And if they win in advance,
they will play Spain who beat Portugal earlier today.
And so the World Cup's going on.
There's other sports going on,
but I haven't really been paying too much attention.
It was a little wimbledon this weekend.
A little bit of tennis action where we touched on it last week.
We forgot to mention that Serena Williams came back,
and she did lose her match,
but it was good to see her back out there.
She tweaked her knee.
She tweaked it.
She was playing a really good player.
That was the reason.
Yeah, I'm not saying anything else,
but then she did have a good first set,
and then the wheels came off.
Here was she playing.
I don't know.
We'll have to find her.
Let's see.
Continue, Gia, while I look that up.
So, but the tournament continues.
It'll be the finals will be this weekend coming up.
And we got, you know, baseball is in midseason form.
This is the last week before next Tuesday is the all-star break.
So this is the last week before the all-star break,
which doesn't really come at halfway point.
It really comes about 90, 95 games into the season.
And, you know, hopefully things will,
the summer will get better for the Yankees,
because they have been playing terrible now,
they're 1-9-9-9.
No, I should have known.
Australian Maya Joint.
You couldn't figure that one out?
Yeah, I knew what I kind of knew,
but I didn't know the name.
So I wanted to get him.
No, I didn't either.
20-year-old Australian.
There you go, that's why our friend,
we had to win something this week.
Right.
But yeah, you know baseball and like I said midseason form the all-star game is next
next Tuesday Monday night will be the home run derby and
You know, there's some more NBA free agent frenzy going on there
You know check up on on your favorite team
I know feet field tree fleet tree you doing better now that recovered from the San Antonio Spurs
Getting their butts whooped by the New York Knicks
Did we had no home field?
At all, dude, it was no man as someone who historically has watched the Knicks always blow it somehow or another
It just seemed like early in the playoffs. It was just there
It was it was almost like team with destiny stuff the way they were coming back
They beat Cleveland when it when they were down by 22 points with like seven minutes left in the game
And it was just unbelievable that run that they were on and and I guess, you know
53 years is a long time between championships and San Antonio beat him the last time
That is true
Thousand that's symmetry that's sports
Excuse and everything, but I got to see it firsthand. We we sold our home field to the stars
you know, we got to go to a
To the first game and
We had we just got hospitality tint tickets at the game
And we got out of the car in the parking lot and I was looking around us while we already got New York fans here
And then you walk up and say hey, there's another New York fan here. It's like
It was a travel there. Well, hey, they did
It was like, I don't know and we go through that with
When we play the Rockets or something like that, it's always kind of that way
But this was kind of like at a different level and it's an excuse or whatever
But it just seemed like to me it felt like when they went to New York that
It was a true away game and it kind of leveled at least it was
New York's
But when they came home, they didn't have it's like they didn't even have that
Yeah, they didn't have the full the full home court that they typically
It wasn't like they were like when they were playing the heat and that they had like five heat fans there
right, right, yeah
And it's interesting
You know, they're kids there they'll figure it out, but I mean they were close fans and it hurt
Yeah, they get a lot of young talent on that team and
You know, everybody here was drinking the Kool-Aid, you know, yeah, you know
Sometimes you got to lose and learn how to win, you know, so I mean you can't drive down the street without
You know, the the hint a selling t-shirts and stuff, you know
I
Here was that way in New York as well like everybody's selling and it's obviously bootleg stuff, but whatever. Yeah, people are in on it
Well, congratulations to your team
Forgetting that far like I'm I'm
It's the curse of being a Yankee fan, you know, you make it to the World Series and you lose your loser
But I think there's something to like if you make it to the finals, you know, you've done something
You know that far you want to win, right?
Yeah
No, that's it back to the World Cup
You know, we're we're here in the in the quarters. I had the bracket here
So France and Morocco have advanced they will play July 9th and
Norway in England advanced they played July 11th at 5 p.m. And
Spain has advanced and they will play the winner at USA versus Belgium July 10th at 3 p.m. And
then
Tomorrow is Argentina and Egypt and
Switzerland and Colombia and the winners will play each other on the 11th, which I believe that's Saturday
Excellent, so break down the game a little bit tonight. What do we have to watch out for and is
The United States going to be hampered by losing our star goal scorer
Well, no, that's right. The news broke out. I don't know was that yesterday or earlier today that
Balagund are
Top striker and goal scorer who had gotten the red card received in the last game
the red card has now been suspended by FIFA and
You know, there's lots of
Outrage by by some including the Belgium's and the traditionalists of the FIFA and of course as a USA
team USA
Fan, I'm happy that the guy's gonna play because it seemed definitely
Unfair that he was given that red card to begin with but it is an issue of
The precedent that this sets there was another player that received the red card
In a different game is his gonna be reviewed also and maybe perhaps he's gonna be allowed to play too or or what and
So in a way that you know, this kind of sucks for team USA
Because if he plays wall and we win there, you know, there is gonna be that talk of oh
Well, it's cuz they got an unfair advantage that their best player got to play
But did FIFA just decide that they had made a mistake or like
Show on the referee the picture of Donald Trump
Did you say precedent Geo or president, sorry
Okay, so I'm obviously being a little coy here. This is fun. This is a fun ethical discussion like let's let's be real
The leader
Right, so it's a corrupt organization go ahead. So you've just said that
Totally corrupt organization and what happened to all the president of the of the states called the president of the FIFA and
Supposedly there was already a I guess a review in progress and the review turned out to be favorable imagine that
Unprecedented I like the results. I don't think that the red card should have ever come out in that deal
From jump it to look to totally inadvertent. I'm not a soccer guy. I really don't have standing to make opinions
I don't know enough
But man for a guy to lose the next game in a once-in-a-lifetime
Situations, but he's not the first guy to have gotten red card and been whether it was questionable or not
This it will be the first time ever in the World Cup that someone that received the red card will not be playing in the next game
And is it do we know for certain? That's because the president of the United States called and intervened
Well, no, no one knows for certain who would know for sure
That you know the president calling
Infantino the president of FIFA who also by the way claims that that there was no that there's nothing
You don't move along nothing to see here that he
Whether he agrees or disagrees with the calls the calls are the cause and that he has no influence over them
But you know, let's just say that it would appear
That that someone made a call and then the calls me
Let's just say there was a discussion
It does leave kind of like the situation where where now it does you know bring up the opportunity for people to say
Oh, well, you guys won only because you got unfair treatment
Whether someone wants to admit it or not did the guy deserve the card? Absolutely not
But at this point it is unfair treatment that that he is gonna get to play
Is it a good thing for the president of the United States to inject himself into sports?
Probably am I gonna call him out to say you can't do that because you're the president of the United States
Or maybe you're the president of the United States. I don't like
Look the president of the United States. He's not the only one. Hey, if you want to get in and get into the game
Let him do it. Whatever
Whatever country soccer team or or it may be even other countries presidents to call and complain the FIFA about right
We don't know that right. There's a good thing like maybe that happens all the time
Maybe
You know FIFA again, you know the previous president president people was invited for corruption
And they have been known to be a very, you know, you know, show me the money type organization. So
We don't know if that's happened before however, this is the only time a
Referring decision has been reversed. That is correct. Hey, what do you think about this Matt?
You're international guy. We're all Americans. We're benefiting. So it's not for us to say
He should have definitely
Negotiated a one-to-nothing lead from the start like that's the way it should have gone
Yeah, well, basically is fight basically failed is what you're trying to say Joe
I'm if you're gonna go through all the effort, you might as well get us a one-nothing lead
But I like that this guy's gonna play but what's your honest take Matt the United States benefiting
I'm with I don't think it deserves a red card
However, you are setting a precedence which you've opened up Pandora's box big time and
yet
Yeah, but no other country
Has got the power that we have to just
You know what I mean like
Get that kind of
That's the thing
The sweaty feet walking through the Oval Office and
Bring up what we actually went on in the Oval Office before the sweaty feet
I just feel let's go down the rabbit hole again
This one we like because we got we're getting a benefit
We have gained a benefit
So we got a win now though, right like that's the thing that's what's
When your thumb is on the scale now you got to win you lose without the then then it's all for not
Out of play is what it comes down to and there's somebody who plays soccer every week
I just don't like it. Sorry
Sorry, sorry big brothers and sisters. It's all good. You just you better that your guys didn't call
Man
Should have called and demanded something
FIFA, you know, they wouldn't respond it. You just didn't offer the right price
Prime Minister struggling enough to run the country
Having fun with your guys
No, like that's it none of this matter you gotta win. Well, I'll get a storm flying if I get that one
I'm sorry, Matt. I mean we're being taxed into prosperity down here apparently. Yes
But you do get 47 days of uh, paid compensated
Days off
Which is nice
All right, anything else for exclusion? Are we ready for the soccer match?
Well, that's that matt will do uh, I'll show your report and then we'll do final thoughts and we'll get our uh, america
underwear on
Go ahead matt. I just got a visual on you putting american underwear on joe. It's some stupid reason and
He's gonna get his under-ruze out. That's right under-ruze captain america
Well, not a lot of mention on the australia report. Sorry, uh, it's been very very quiet down under uh, two more weeks till we get back to our
state championship in drag racing and
I've really got nothing much at all mate. We had a we had a uh
As you know, there's two different sanctioning bodies down here. Um
The ihra and andra
uh, andra put on a uh, a test day at sydney dragway this saturday on saturday just gone
It got cancelled at
4 p.m. On thursday
by
by
by 4 p.m. friday a
individual put a
Private test day on with ihra sanctioning for 30 spots
at double the money
Uh to enter and sold out
Oh, wow. Wow
That's uh, so a few of the big teams still went along and tested
Um, a lot of people especially on the east coast aren't bothering with andra licensing
That's probably about the biggest
I don't know the biggest story I guess you'd say it's just a trend at the moment that everyone's just getting ihra and they seem to be um
being the dominant sanctioning body and and
Uh, that's the way the races are going. Wow. Um, as I said other than that, mate, uh
Yeah, our racing gets back on the 18th of july
Um, the engines been fogged down
Well, it's good old fog it and I've got my engine builder coming over on saturday to
just run the valves
and
Give it a final sort of check over
Get it ready to go on the trailer for the weekend after that. Wow. That's awesome
And it's been too long
It's been too long this winter break for us has been just too long
I'm uh, I'm looking forward to getting back in the car and you got something forward to that's the reason
It really hasn't been that long, but you you know, you you're just getting going. That's great great
Well, I was I was getting going
I think that's the thing and I was getting very becoming comfortable in the car
And we were really getting a good handle on it and then this winter break has come along which has been 66 or so weeks and that's um
It's been a long six weeks. That's all I'll say I can imagine
I can imagine how to get back to racing how to get back to racing. All right, flea tree final final thought before we
Will let you get on out of here
Uh, not really a final thought something I read
Satisfaction is the death of desire
and uh, I don't know if that really
Translates to anything, but I saw that sounded pretty cool. And then uh, my personal thing is, you know, uh
It could you know, just
Be happy, you know, what things could be a lot worse, you know, just the no news is good news sometimes
You know, and yeah
you know, if you
I got to stay in touch with you guys to keep me up to date because I've been catching up a lot of uh
Hallmark, you know, Christmas and July stuff, you know, with the yes
I gotta use you guys for my sports and my racing and stuff. There you go
I actually didn't get to watch that scar. I didn't have the damn was it showtime or HBO or whatever
Prime it was on amazon and uh, yeah, now it's on t&t t&t now. Yeah, true
I don't love that was
In from all information
I'm drinking the kool-aid man. Just you know important stuff for flea tree
We'll make sure you're up on anything that really if the bombs start going off, dude, we'll let you know
Yeah
Hey flea tree, um
There you go. Well say hi to the missus. Good job. Yes, sir
This is I met missus flea tree a couple of times we hung out
Matt in australia final five. Uh, well, it's made it's made the news down here. Tell me what svg did and
I know I can't believe he skipped right over the svg thing. It's controversy
Oh, he got a little bit of payback on hill
I think he did but
But you know, was it intentional or not? There's there's all kinds of questions like
Maybe he just went in a little bit deeper. The car was tight on him, you know and next thing, you know, whoop
There goes austin hill
Up into the up into the garden
Well, the play
The play that kept getting the television down the underlock actually made the news down here
The evening news was uh, the comment he made. Well, I've told
Austin's happy to come. I'm happy for austin to come over and talk to me, but he's scared of something along those lines
Oh, hold grunt. All he does is grunt. He just grunts
All he does is grunts
Yeah, he's good. He's good. The austin is good to talk to him and he said yeah, but he only knows how to grunt
I'll talk to him, but he just grunts
Wow, that's hysterical. That's like a diss
It was great
It was great
And svg seems to and he did it down here in supercars. He does say very calm and monotone
That's that instant spray
He would know because down here
Oh, yeah, it's making one year. Uh, what would you have that kind of? Oh, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, dry delivery
under control
as
I don't know. I forgot to say dry as a dead bingo's donna
I say again
Come again
Come again dry as a dead bingo's donna
As a dead bingo's stonger
Got it
Donger. Yeah
Okay
That's that's when somebody had a very dry delivery in there
Sure. I just there's a lot of assumptions being made about the dingo and the the moisture levels of the dong are previously
Well, the moist the moisture levels of the dong that would be okay when it's not dead, but it's a dead dingo
So it's
Dong is dry. How do you know?
Oh
apparently
So he's been told belgium up one
Belgium up one nothing they just
Oh
How many minutes injured eight minutes and 54 seconds
Damn dude. I'm at 8 30 something
Okay, ready. It's about to happen. Gio
Get ready get ready to be sad here. I'll bring you up big up
It's not over yet. Um, but if they put another one in is that then it is over that's pretty much. Yeah. Yeah
That's what happened in mexico last night. They lost their mind for a second
They the the first one went in and they were dis
disheveled and then
England just pounced and stuck a second
Whooped their ass man. He scored two goals in like a minute and a half
It was yeah
Mexico had just
Taken the ball off after the first goal and they stole it and this dude and the dude put in another one
Stuffed it right on him. It's terrible. All right. Bobby Graham final thought
Now I gotta get out of here
Kind of funny bad, but when when when y'all have everybody's having your activities outside take the weather
seriously sometimes
If the weather is kind of bad and you think oh, it's way far away. Do we want to have a problem?
Don't get too excited when everybody jumps out of the pool
It looks like a bunch of porpoises
Jumping over something when the lightning hits next to the house
So
Pay attention to the weather. Yikes
Good job. Pay attention to the weather. Yeah, get out of the pool guys when the lightning is in here get out of the pool
So, Bobby
It was a fast exit
So, Bobby, you didn't give you a guess air conditioning and you try to electrocute me. Is that correct?
Oh, he left before then he wouldn't even get in the pool
That's how we stay cool while air condition wasn't working getting the pool
Yikes us
All right. Thank you, Bobby. Excellent work. Sue Morris final thought
All right. Well, I this just came across my feed. I have to congratulate say congratulations to aj
He won drag race drag race bracket bonanza for the peak league
For winning nha route 66 nationals way to go dude. Whoo
Way to go. Good job. Good job aj. You know continues didn't used to make it as proud
And I know bonnica. You're a proud mama out there. So
But I had to shout that out way to go aj on that
You know, we were we were all about being uh, we were patriotism
We had it going on this past weekend. So we were up in
Henderson, North Carolina. So we were doing it all from a veterans memorial to
To uh, you know, on to see john penn's monument the whole deal
So it was a pretty cool celebrate in america 250. So hope I hope hopefully everybody had a great 4th of july out there and
Took it all in and man your patriotism should be going strong now cheering on team usa getting going for the wind
so
But hey, we're getting back the race the next weekend. So we'll be headed out to greer
Um, so I hope everybody has fun out there this week. Go team usa
Let's go racing and you know, hey, we're a bunch of doers get out there do something and also support your local track
100 or soon you will not have a local track to support
Good job to jim jimani final thought
Hey, just wf for everybody out there. I hope you had a wonderful 4th of july weekend
We sure did down here in south florida
and
now we're going to
Watch the rest of this excruciating soccer game here and hope that team usa can mount a comeback here
otherwise
We're gonna go form ruckus out in the street
right
No pots and pans this time
But uh, yeah, and uh, yeah as sue said man, uh, you know appreciate what you have before time makes you appreciate what you had
