It's totally fine. Frads bad. Didn't need to put a steering wheel on it. It's just a boring old
headliner. Headliner looking nice. Done. Adliners done. Replace. The only thing I was too much
of a pussy to do was to take the seat out, deliver it to the poultry shop, get the bolster redone
and put it back in the car because it's pretty tricky to do a rally without a driver's seat.
I may have a guy. Lane, don't tell him yet. Unless you already did it. Oh, yeah, yeah.
No, I didn't. Okay. Good. I have a guy. We'll talk. I'll see. I'll see you on Thursday and we'll talk.
But I may have a guy. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Well, it's good to know. But it's good to have a guy.
Yeah. Yeah, there's a little stuff I wanted to do. But mainly I got the car service to
a month ago or whatever and in preparation for this because I knew I wouldn't have time.
This guy thinking ahead. I know it's crazy. And I thought that they might find something bigger.
The only thing that I didn't I turned down was the power steering fluid is looking old but
I didn't want to mess with the customer. What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it?
State of the customer declines, declines recommendation. Yeah. So we can do that another time.
But no, it's I think it's good. Ready to go. Should be good. And we're we're looking at
forecasses in our favor, especially kind of unsettled weather until Friday. Saturday, Sunday looks
really good. So far so good. And our dinners are partially outdoors, which is like another
kind of concern is like, well, let's hopefully that works out. It looks like great. There's reports
of beautiful fall colors in the Sierra, which is just a, you know, a little cherry on top.
What else we got? Roads are looking good. No other real surprises. So I'm excited. I was thinking
about more to like in the past, I always feel pressure after lunch to make it back to the hotel.
Like, get back. You know what I mean? Like, I don't want to be back. And which is fun. You
would get to chill at the hotel. Have a beer. You know, hang out with your friends. That's great.
But like, I don't get over to this part of the world all that often. So it's like, maybe I should
try to enjoy it. So get up a little bit. Stop and smell the views. Okay. A lot of good views.
Yeah. And a lot of good foliage right now. It looks like which is pretty sweet. So I'm hoping.
I'm hoping for that. So anyways, I'm just trying to like, maybe pace myself a little bit more.
You know, like, what about if you drove straight to dinner from now? That sounds awful.
Because I think like one of the most fun things is the like full parking lot hang before dinner.
Well, I like the after dinner hang too. But yes. No, but I like. Yeah. The parking lot
hang before dinner is great. Yeah. Getting back to the hotel. Like, that's a, that's a nice little
vibe. There's a world in which you almost don't want to go to dinner. Yeah. Oh, for sure. That's
why I've always wanted to do a, you know, talk with Chuck in the parking lot. For sure. Yeah. I mean,
but there's also the opportunity on that Thursday. You know, we guys are hanging out. And then
someone in the community brings Lane a spare distributor and business like, hey, here, I just
happen to have this on my shelf. You know, so it's like, and then Lane gets his overall cover all
of the stuff going to work. No, just keep it, just keep it with you. Yeah. Like, it's like the,
you always have to have the, what is that? The relay, right? Lane. So then I could call
Haggerty road sign and be like, I have a distributor, but no, there's, where on the street is that
we're going to have two B line texts on the rally again. So you know, this is true. There's a
tech roadside. Yeah. The only thing that is coming along, timing's the tricky thing with that. But
distributor is like, isn't it just one bolt and it slides out? Yeah. I mean, at least they did
on my Honda's. Yeah. Keep it the same or like a weird place or something. I don't know. I mean,
it's pretty visible, but I don't know what's in front of it. Oil pouring out of the hole. Yeah.
That's always the oil hole, dude. Does every turn out there? There's oil hole. Oh, you know,
it's a crazy thing. I was looking under Mark's, Mark Garcia's 73 and a half Targa. These, the way
they designed these CV joints is so bad on those early cars. So like the flange, where it bolts
on, there's only five bolts and then there's like an alignment pin hole and it's just a hole.
So grease just slings out of the hole. Oh, weird. The holes used to like line it up properly,
but there's something to like seal it. Yeah. I feel like there's a fit. That got to be fixed. So I say,
like you try to like put RTF in there or something when you're putting it kind of like doesn't always
you don't want to put too much. You know, you don't want to. Yeah. Yeah. Or like a little gasket or
something. Yeah. It feels like they would make like a little plug or something. Absolutely.
It would work. I get crafty there. Yeah. Well, we got some questions. If you guys are
interested in answering some questions, do let's go. Ben Rogat says any favorite memories from a
rally roadside hang session. Yeah. One time we saw somebody murder a deer on calls.
Wait, was that is this favorite memories? That's my favorite memory. There was a little like
burnout, like competition at that one. That was kind of fun. That was fun. It's always
when we end up in those like literally middle of nowhere places and you can kind of be free.
Yes. You free young bucks. Yeah. There's so many though. I mean, there's always going to be a
little hang at some point, you know. Yeah. Is there one you remember where you like stuck on the
side of the road or something? Yeah. Bunch or where someone stuck on the side of the road,
you had to hang out with them. Yeah. Like last Sierra rally we did. I think it was the last one.
I think Drew's Volvo blew the power steering line or was it? Yeah, it was last Sierra and I think
it was oil line. It was something. Yeah. It was oil line. Yeah. And was able to fix it, but it
was a pretty lengthy repair like getting under there. Essentially he had to cut off like the
broken part had less slack and it took a while. But we just chilled. It was me and John Greco and
how is it? Bad rabbit habit? John Jesse. Anyways, we ended up flying after that to get to lunch
because we were really delayed. We were the last ones to show up to lunch. But that kind of worked
out in our favor because the roads were super empty and then lunch, there was no weight. So it wasn't
all bad. But yeah, we were there for a long time. And I was just like literally hanging out in
this year. It was like, like looking around. At least that was like a decent spot, right? Like it was,
you know, I remember it wasn't hot. There was like trees and trees. No, no. Yeah. Totally fine.
I had a, I did a six hour session with Patrick Stephenson in the middle of nowhere because he blew
up the engine on his 996. You know, the, you know, the, you know, the, the M96 that you can build
because you overbuild it. And it's still fine. But you know, he's still had like a deep chunk
failure. That whole thing. And then I did a six hour session with John O outside of ochers,
I think it was in his 675 LT on the side of the road, waiting for roadside to pick him up and
then I drove him into town. So I missed most of that day and then went straight to dinner. Those
were fun initially. And then at some point, just kind of like lame. But yeah, but plenty of positive
really fun sessions that, you know, too many to too much too many. I was, I was at the Patrick
one for the fun part. And then I took off. Yeah, it was cool. I've also done multiple creek jumps
and swimming holes. Those are always a good time. Yeah, we had one on the last sear rally, I think.
And we're, we're a bunch of us like 20 of us are 15 of us. We're all in the creek. The creek.
I have some photos. I have some evidence. I mean, one that ended up because it started off as a bit
of a nightmare and ended up being kind of fun was that one alternate route when, when that one
road closure at the last year of rally, right? There was that road closure and I, we're trying to
figure out what to do. And I just like looked at the swiggly lines on the map and we're like, let's try
that. That kind of loops us back to where we need to go. And I had like 10 people behind me and I was
in my skyline. And almost all of the cars behind me were either super low like 911s or, you know,
name your super car. And we got to the end of this, this road. It was like really nice for
three miles. And then it was a gravel road. And I stuck my hand out the window. I said, thumbs up,
thumbs down. It was obvious that it was a gravel road. And about I'd say seven of the 10 people
gave me thumbs up. So I said, fuck it. Let's do it. And we went and it was pretty brutal. But we
got to stop multiple times and take some good photos in the middle of the forest on these gravel
roads. And that was pretty entertaining. But and then also our cars were completely covered in
dust by the time we were back into town. That road also ruined my car and rattled my freaking
whatever my car lose basically. Yeah, didn't you have a, yeah, one of your car towed home.
One of your coil packs fell off or some shit, wasn't it? It rattled lose basically. Yeah,
the ceramic and everything like broke. And then, but we did up ice cream at the end when we
went into that little town at the end, there was ice cream shop. So we're lining. Yeah, so we're
lining. This is also not a roadside stop. Roadside hang session. Well, there were, there were
hang sessions that happened. He said he hanged it along the way. Oh, okay. We did, I did not stop it all,
but yeah, that was an early one. Got it. John Reyes asking, what's the best wagon? It says,
have fun on the rally. Thank you, sir. The best wagon. I, yeah, yeah, that's a hard one. What,
what the heck? What's the best? What's the criteria for best wagon? It's station wagon. 740 turbo wagon.
Volvo. Not super. It's sporty. How about sporty? Sporty and manual transmission supercharged
V8, where we'll drive. That's a very good, good choice. Yeah. But not, not the most wagon-y wagon.
E55 AMG wagon. Pretty cool. But then you also have like a re-talking vista cruiser type stuff,
where you just want to chill and like float along the road. You can make the case. You can make the case
for that being a better wagon. I mean, you could tow your horses with a vista cruiser. Yeah.
The roadspaces are up there for that sort of thing. It is, it is a suburban just dressed in wagon
clothing for the most part. How about a grand wagon here? What about Audi's and BMW's,
the smaller wagons? I want to be. I have RS4 Avant. That's my favorite. That's your favorite.
And they're very, very expensive. I mean, an 850R in buttery yellow. The color is cream or
gold. No, it's actually just yellow. It's just yellow. I think it's just yellow.
Gold is the official color. I just found out from that one guy. I swear, I just looked it up,
and they were saying cream, and then it's like cream is actually not the real color name. It's
just straight up yellow. Okay, so there was a dude. I got to see a brochure. Yeah, there's that dude.
He had all the accessories and shit. And he said the official color is gold yellow.
So I'm going by his. Oh, I can do gestures. So 850R wagon. Well, that's fucked up.
Front wheel drive. Also, not a manual. In Europe, they are, of course, but yeah,
importable soon. Or now, I guess, to 40 horse. Yep. Yep. The latter, you know,
V70Rs are pretty cool. I don't know if it's peak wagon, though. No, really nice V70R, though.
RS2 is pretty dang good. It does something about that one. It never really appealed to me.
I was driving NYX B6 S4 wagon for the last day. It's kind of cool.
It's like very small. Yeah, compared to modern cars, and it has a V8, and it sounds really good.
Yep. So that's got a cool 340 horse, I think, on those. It's Quattro 2, right? Quattro, automatic,
but they made a manual. Yeah. Actually, I don't know if they made a manual wagon in the States,
did they? I don't think so. They definitely did the P6. This is a B6. My trip in Holland.
Wait, now you got me questioning myself here, because we never got a manual sedan.
Yeah, we never got a B7 RS4 wagon, which did exist, and that was a manual in Europe.
But now I'm tripping out. Was there no B6 manual wagon? I thought there was.
Oh, I don't know. This is an automatic. Can we include one-offs in this?
The 500 SEC wagon. Go in salt and a Brunei shed over here.
We're talking shooting brakes now. Yeah, dude. I'm just saying, can we?
Interesting. And if so, do they move the needle?
Oh, how about, I thought you were going to go somewhere else. I thought we were going to go
hammer style. Hammer wagons are fucking awesome. Hammer wagons.
Does Hammer wagons. Is that not the ultimate? I think you want an automatic
torquy thing. I don't think you want a sports car wagon.
Oh, now you're changing it up. Right, because like C1, N55 or whatever.
Yeah. Well, if that's what you're about to do, I mean, I want to still shift years.
And B5s are really small, too. Like, as Lane's, like Lane was talking about the B6,
B5s are even smaller. And like, the RS4 is so rad. Like, just, it's like the ultimate iteration of
that. And like, just having performance and aesthetics and a wagon package is just awesome.
And also, I think I think I've got you beat. I've got you beat. Okay, here we go.
E39 Alpina wagon. Automatic. That's cool, but okay.
It's going to be like 450 horsepower. Yes, automatic. Great colors, great wheels, great
stands. Super usable PQMW. I'll take the B5 RS4 still.
And Lane, you got to pick? Oh, I have to pick a car. I don't know. You can. You get the chance to.
I mean, if I had own one, I would probably go, I go T5R.
I just had to choose, yeah. Okay, I think it's a standout. And I don't really care for it to
be a crazy sports car or anything. It's just like, just looks cool. Yeah, it does. 62 roadsters
saying whether or mostly looking good this weekend, best wiper blades, you've tried and best value
blades. Does the same make model different size, obviously, work best on all your rides and do certain
cars work better with different blades? Well, I have a lot of experience in this. I used to sell
wiper blades for years. Yeah, what's the best? I always get the same thing. I mean,
you know, Bosch is still the top dog. But which one? It's the icon series and they're
frameless. So they've got a really hard rubber back to them. Yeah, those are nice. Which also
look a little wind deflector ish. And they don't look too busy and complicated. They're a very
clean design. One big. They're also laid, right? Yep. And they're very expensive compared to
Trico, which would be your value option. And Trico makes a few different flavors. They don't really
do much. Some last a little bit longer than others. Your mileage may vary. But Trico is where you
want to be for like an inexpensive. And there's a traditional with like the two pressure points that
kind of like, yeah, they have four maybe. Yeah. And never do the replace your rubber bullshit
stuff is so stupid. And always put your wiper arm down softly as you're preparing the new blade.
Do not leave it in the upright position. Because if you tap that thing, it's going to whack down
on this windshield and crack your windshield. Oh, yeah. Which I've seen happen. So always like,
take the old one off, which is a pretty easy putting them on can be difficult. But lay that thing
down gently in between your stuff. Good tip. That's all I got. Well, what Lane said, the value
version is the rain X. So you can get the same style from rain X. And they're a lot cheaper than
Bosch. And they do a really good job too. So like, if that's what's available, like someone has a
Costco, they have deals. And I'll just grab the rain X ones because they're pretty similar. I feel
like just Bosch is a little bit cleaner like and also they last longer, which is, you know,
ultimately, that's where you make up for that. But ironically, we don't get a ton of rain here.
So yeah, I'm not really a windshield like a windshield wiper person. Don't eat them very often.
But it is foggy here a lot in the mornings. A user wiper blades quite often.
Just replace them every two years, usually, even though it's a shared every year,
once they start streaking is when I get, yeah, baked.
Did his dad says any new routes plan for this year's Sierra Rally? Yep.
Hushy Pushy says, if you were designing a stock car racing series, what would it be like?
They have been into the Mustang dark horse series, which uses the dark horse R, a lightly
modern Mustang that keeps the six speed manual. I also like the BRZ and 86 cup in Japan. Those cars
even race with their license plates on. That's cool. I didn't know there was a dark horse series
sounds rad. Sounds super manuals. I mean, I was a fast car. We've talked about this, but I've
always wanted to see a GT series where it's like showroom stock GT cars, where whether it's like
true showroom. So he's been CL asked in Martin, you know, what have you?
Porsche 911. Porsche 911. Yep. So that would be really cool. Maybe like two classes of that,
like an SL or NCL or like, you know, there's the Ferrari, like, what are the new ones? What are the
Roma? Yeah. And the Lusso or I don't know. Yeah, Lusso is the two plus two. Yeah. So I've always wanted
to see that as a stock car series. And maybe there's some they'll have the same wheels and tires.
And some some way to like how do you even the power? Maybe a weight. You just you just have
a weight to cars. Yeah, you put it in the trunk. I don't know. I mean, that is the ballast thing.
I mean, but power to weight is the thing, right? Also in general. Yeah, they they do control that
even like in whatever class Ruben raised in was the 46 like he overbuilt his and it was like
really heavy. So he had like, he could do more power than other cars. I can't remember what
class it is. It was a NASA thing. Yeah, the first one that comes to mind is M2. I feel like the M2
class would be really rad, but I'm just trying to think of something smaller that has a manual
that's fast and fun. And that that could be interesting. What about like a shit box series where it's
like Honda Fit Mazda 2's. Whoa, old school. You know, a Sonic. If you do on like little tracks,
it could be cool. Like a little tracks. Yeah. Yeah. No, I want to do Le Mans. Yeah, I mean,
like a look at a Sega that would suck. Oh, it's be terrible. Yeah. You don't want to do it like on
a go-cart track. Yeah. I mean, Honda fits. I mean, Honda Fit is a thing, obviously. Yeah. I mean,
not anymore. I mean, well, they exist. Yes. I was thinking new cars because he said dark horse
in 86. Right, right. Yeah. I mean, how about just like in reality, what it should be is hypercar
series is you get Konegseg versus Bugatti versus Pagani versus. Whoa. And you do the same weight
distributions or weight penalties and go see what happens. Like it's basically the Japanese show,
which I can't think of the name right now. Best motoring. Best motoring. Oh, yeah. They already did it.
Just like, yeah, whatever off the shelf inventory, let's go do laps. I mean, I know that that's
what Lamas doing, right? Like that that's, I don't know if they're calling it hypercars, but like
all manufacturers have that class, right? I've heard it's called is it hypercar? But they're,
they're those brands, Pagani and yeah, I mean, it's, what is it called? I mean, I think that's
what the F80 is going to race in. I can't just call it and look at that. I don't know that.
Anyways, it'll be like a stock car with like safety mods or something. I think so. Let's see.
Le Mans hypercar class. It'd be cool. Like a sedent. Like if you look back, like there's certain
areas where there's like such cool competition. Like like the car and driver article of like
the E36 versus S4 versus, you know, versus it's so many choices. Big in versus all this kind of
stuff. You're out of those. We're all like showroom stock and you're like racing those. I know, or
even like the big body stuff like Audi V8 versus S class versus Jaguar versus. Yeah, you can probably
like, I don't know now with that even be appealing at all though. Probably not. But the best
motoring stuff is very entertaining. That's cool. Those races with with F50s and have 40s and GT2s
and all that stuff. Like it's very cool to watch. And the results are sort of predictable,
but it's still fun. Yeah, yeah. And they qualify and then they do the reverse grade always.
So that was always cool because you'd see the car work its way through the group. Great. And
yeah, I think that's super fun. Yeah. Did you guys see Max first stop and yeah, with the Ferrari,
you won the GT3 race and the Ferrari at Nurburg, the Nurburg six hour was it? Or
was I just saw the first time like GT racing with a co-driver who's like a sim guy,
a sim racer and they won by a he said when Max Max started the race in third
and gotten the first by the first turn. And then by the time he handed the keys off the guys a minute
ahead of everyone, he's pretty good at driving. Yeah, yeah. That guy knows his way around.
He really proved himself this weekend. That's cool. Yeah.
Kellen Patler says, you inherit $500,000 with the strict instructions to buy three sports cars
from three different countries to comprise the ultimate three car garage.
Oh, we got the ultimate three car garage with 500 gram, but they will be used on DW rallies,
the occasional track day. Engine swap cars are allowed. Oh gosh, but the swaps change the
country of origin to wherever the engine is originally from. So your car is now the engine.
What three cars are you buying? This is a tricky one. We almost, this is what we need to do
the older. We'll kick this offline to a different episode. Yeah. But if you guys want to try 500
K three car garage with all different countries, I love this. But yeah, that definitely needs some time.
I do a, okay, shit, I don't know, dude. You're like just struggling with the other Germany.
Dude, no, I'm struggling with like, well, I'm struggling after Japan. Where do I, I guess
that's America or something? Italy maybe. I have two cars right now. It says sports cars, too,
by the way, it doesn't, you don't include any daily drivers. Can I do a LC500 as a sports car?
Yeah, sure. Yeah, because I might, I think Japan, I might do an LC500.
Broughtster. And then for the cab or cab? That's a good question, dude.
Fuck, might as well just go full yolo, right? Full roadster. And then for the, for Germany,
I'm, I'd probably just because I talk about it, I'll do a, I'll do like a really like the nicest
914 6, like built car. So we're talking, let's say $150,000 budget. And then we got a 100,000 for
the LC or maybe a little more. So then I have 250 left. Could I get some kind of German Japan?
Yeah, could I get some kind of Ferrari for 250? I could definitely get like a 360 or something like that.
But I get a 5355. I can get, I can get 575. Yeah. But I, any, any like Radoiter,
but I really want to like, I can't afford it, but I'd really love like a,
because I think you're looking at like 500 grams, like a 330 or something like that, right?
Oh, yeah, yeah, classic. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Those are out. So maybe I could just buy that and then
buy like a 944 on a Honda Civic. Yeah. No, even then you're pushing it. Yeah, for like a,
for like a two, even a two plus two thing or something, huh? That's not easy. It ain't easy.
You can barely buy a Dino. I don't want it. I'm just saying, like that's where you're at. I know.
Yeah. You can't buy one for 250. Yeah, it's almost like that because you could slide that scale
however you want, right? It's like it'd be like, spend all the money over here and then, you know,
less here. Like the first two that immediately come to mind is, you know, F 355 GTB manual, of
course, 964 RS. And those can each be had, you know, let's say, let's say it's 250 for the 964 RS
and then 150 for the, the all get a very used driver F 355. So I'm already at four
hundred there. And my mind goes to maybe like an early 70s performance like Japanese car,
but I also really like, you know, like the Evo 5 is super sick, but a hundred grand is like
an extremely generous budget for that. So, and I can't go to 22b, which would be the other.
Well, you could spend a little, you could spend a little more on your Ferrari, maybe.
Oh, okay. Maybe do that after 175. Yeah. Then you give me, give me the exact 75 on the
get that TDF blue over coil manual. Like, yeah, I'm basically a 200 grand there.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, maybe that that would be the move. And then I would do like a Tommy Mac and
in Evo six and a half or something like that. Just off the cuff here.
Yeah, it's too, it's too hard. I can't do it. It is tough. I need a, I need a spreadsheet.
Like, how much is a, yeah, I can't touch. You can't touch a built by legends like GTR.
You can't do a, you can't do a 400 R. Obviously, those are like fucking million bucks now or something.
Yeah, more. It's not crazy. Yeah, it's crazy. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, my mind goes Japanese NSX for me.
Oh, there you go. How much is an NSX R? No, half a million at least. Yeah, they're over.
Yeah, get it, you could get a really, I mean, you get a perfect NSX for 150.
So there's plenty of money left, right? Yep. Got to go with the Trans-Ahem, of course.
Oh, obviously, like a, like a 96 or something. Yeah, but I'd swap in a Ferrari V8, so that's a Italian.
And then a light car company rocket.
All right. Yeah, I think I'd do a 350, I think 355 would probably be my Ferrari. Nice.
Yeah, and but I'd have to buy like the nicest one in the world for 250 grand.
What if you go challenge Stradale manual swap?
That's pretty sick. That's pretty nice. And those are still undervalued.
They are. But challenge Stradale is right now over 200 K.
Yeah. Yeah. That's so rare. It's, it's, it's, it's like, I mean, even at that price point, you
just need a, you see a fixed the headlight buckets and you can do that unless while you're red already,
right? So I don't know. I mean, I think for me, it's like, um, if I was going to go with a swap
car, I mean, did he say you have to switch the country of origin on the engine? Does that work?
Yeah. Once you, the engine is the country of origin. So you couldn't have like two cars with an
entirely, okay, because, because I would go with like, um, like a T 27 Corolla or like an early 70's
Celica, like that, that one with the quad headlights. I forget what the chassis code is on those.
I love those and do like a full restomod and maybe do like a cause worth naturally aspirated
dual overhead cam build. Like because that's good. Similar to what's already in there. Like the 18RG,
I think it's called. Um, so that would be the move. I mean, maybe I'll switch that out.
Because I think I want to go something more old school, um, Japanese 70's, and since I have the
Radwood era stuff, um, for the Euro and, uh, German, I'm sorry for the German and, um, Italian.
You're good. All right. We've, I think we got a feel for it. We got it.
The real John Webb is asking best road trip lunch, stop meal or experience you've had on a rally
or otherwise. Well, first thing comes to mind is, um, one of our first stops at Parkfield was the
serenading, um, Irish friends. Beautiful day. That was amazing during, uh, a rally. Parkfield,
Parkfield's just a magical place 20 in with seven, 2018 rally. I think or maybe it's 2017.
Yeah, you got me. But art was wearing a scarf and, uh, we were getting sung to by some Irish
that was the rally that we made the 20 minute movie about. So yeah, go watch that on YouTube. I
want to do that again. It's fun. So wait, did you just say other like a lunch stop meal outside of
a rally at any on a road trip at any time? Yeah, it has to be lunch specifically. Oh, he said outside
of the rally. The rally was on a rally or otherwise. Road trip lunch. Dang for any road trip. I mean,
I know. It's our good scanning scanning. Uh, Panama Springs, Death Valley. That was a nice one.
Okay, bachelor party. I remember there's that, um, I don't even know what it's called. There's
the Mexican place in Salinas with those little mini tacos. I don't really mean any burritos. El charito.
Just on it and El charito and El charito, like the first time I went there was, that was really good.
Drew was just texting me about that, like, oh, really? A couple days. And you would just told me about
it too on our, our trip down on our site visit. Yep. Interesting. Well, you know, I can't, I'm like
trying to process because there's been a lot of like, there's some wine destinations along the way.
Like, there's like, damn, I don't know, man, that's it. There's some road trips in Japan also.
Um, too hard, too hard killer one in Utah and Boulder, Utah at this place called Hell's
backbone kitchen. It's like a Michelin star, middle and nowhere, a little spot. Amazing. Like,
you would never know it was there. And I was an awesome one, but that was a long time ago. Maybe
they've changed. There's so many. Uh, gin man asks, what's your favorite rally prep story?
Rally prep story. Nothing comes to mind.
Any rally prep your favorite rally prep story. Yeah, one time I had to put oil in my car,
and I did it the last one time, Lane, uh, waited for the last second to try to fix his car
and then work. Yeah. Uh, one time art had to rent a car because he didn't have a car.
That was his prep multiple times, multiple times. One time art was late to the rally,
but he showed up in a Corvette. So it was okay. You did burn out. Favorite prep. Huh. Yeah,
I'm like scanning all the, all the things. Um, uh, you could say like if, if prep is like
pre runs, we've had some, we've had some interesting pre runs. Warren and I took the GTI when
it was like brand new on, and all of a sudden it started snowing on us. Oh man. That was
interesting. That was heavy. We all remember Garberville. We all remember Garberville. We took that
gnarly road and the GTI as well. And it was like the gnarliest potholes ever.
Garberville wheels. That was, that must have been our, that, that's gotta be the best
pre run story ever. Our experience we've had is just so insane. Straight out, dude.
And then watching that show came out like three weeks after. Yeah. And it was our hotel room
with like the five beds in it or whatever it had. Bobby read with the cars on the same topic,
says, I just finished installing the new transaxle on my 944 on Sunday. What's the latest you've
gotten a car ready for rally? That's made the trip. Art, art probably takes a kick on that one.
Dude, uh, he's getting cars delivered delivered to a multiple times. Yeah.
Yeah, brother. Yeah. I haven't had any like crazy last minute. I mean, I've done like,
I've done break pads myself. Actually, I remember doing I'm like kind of in the rain in my gravel
driveway before like the day before the rally, like stuff like that. But nothing like replacing
a transaxle or anything like that. That's, that's Bobby. You're, you're killing it. By the way,
he said the last time he did it, he had a heart attack, too. Literally. I believe so. Jesus,
take it easy, man. You could pay someone to do that stuff, too. You know, it's got to be somebody
out there. Yeah. Oh, man. Well, um, yeah, I can't think of anything. I'm always had my E30. Like,
it's very rare that I was in anything but my E30 and it was just sort of like worked. Yeah,
I didn't have any big prep stuff that I had to do. Yeah, I never had anything. Or it didn't feel
like last minute. Even this, I mean, I just brought my car in for an oil change. And I'm like,
look at this. I was just bringing it a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't do it. Yeah. But, um,
yeah. Yeah. I think we're not building E30s with fucking case walks, you know.
Yeah. Someone and new and whole new drive trains. Yeah. It's just a two-month project, guys.
Yeah. Yeah. I was, I was also thinking about the last question, like, fear rally prep story.
Like, I mean, I might have one after the rally, but it's just, you know, like, I feel like it has to
be something serendipitous. Like you're buying a part and then that leads to some great
relationship or like something cool, you know, things like that. But, um, yeah, man, serendipity.
All right. So we had a morning motors last weekend and there was a B-line
open house. Everything seemed to go well. Anything you want to add, Lane?
It went great. It was fun, man. The weather was, I was kind of perfect, but it was, uh, it was
definitely, like, scared some people away, but we had a full crowd. I mean, yeah, it was full
instead of over-over crowd, right? Yes. There was always spots. Yeah. But we did wake up to puddles
and that scared people off. So yeah. I know it was good. And then the hang sounded fun. You guys
got to have tacos. Yeah. I did. Yeah. They'd talk us here. And then soulful sips was pouring
beer from other brother and coffee from 11th hour. So it was good times here. Good times at
morning motors. And, um, I saw William Owl. He came to both. Oh, good. It's cool. I don't know if
you guys, you know, that Loma Mar store is doing that. They do. There's the last Sunday of every
month, too. They like stole our day, which is fine. Yeah. Because it's not like we need more people
to come to our thing. 12 people. But, um, there was a genesis, like, they didn't roll on its roof,
like right on the road right there. Nice. On the way to the event. Yeah. Whoopsies.
The post was pretty ridiculous though. It was some, the person who posted it was like,
it was a picture of it on its roof. And it's like, and look at the wheels. There's the brakes
are still glowing. Oh, wow. And I was like, you have to fuck me dry. Imagine driving that road
and getting your brakes even that hot. Yeah. And look, I'm like, oh, it's just the reflection
of the fucking cop light on the fucking road. So stupid. Can you imagine, like, you'd have been
riding the brakes. Imagine that road. It's not like downhill or any. I mean, if they were,
you'd be, you're just, you're just doing everything wrong. That's why everything wrong. Like,
your e-brake was on the whole time. Yeah. But, um, huh. Well, it looked cool. The photos look nice.
I mean, good, good, uh, overcast and damp is always good for photos. So. Yeah. No, it's great.
Yeah. We had some, any standout cars you can think of? Well, there's three notices next to
each other, which is always funny. It'd been Rogitz. Then notice the spree and an Elise. That's
cool. Oh, yeah. And two bad Jeff's car wasn't there too. I know. It was a lawn. Yeah. He came
later on. Yeah. And then someone brought a new GT3 RS, which is always hilarious. Oh, yeah.
That was next to an NC meada club. Love it. Which actually. Yeah. Well, that's kind of a cool
little pair, actually. There's a guy that drives around Santa Cruz in a Model T that showed up.
So that's, it's like full on like 10 Lizzie. And he looks like he's, like, he's like a 90-year-old
Amish man. And he has like a top hat and nice. I don't think I posted the picture. But there was
this group of like kids around him, like, you know, like just younger dudes. The youths. The
youths. And they were all like super into it, which is kind of cool. And I took the picture,
the picture of them, like checking out, like talking to the guy. But as I was taking, I hear
the one guy go, did you buy it? No. Nice. We're talking like a 19, 19. Yeah. Whatever. I don't
know. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe he looked almost that old. No, no, I think he looked older than he actually
is. Yeah. Cause he dresses like an Amish, man. He's like John Jesse in five years.
A future bad rabbit habit. Yeah. A dude years ago. I wonder where it was. I was, I was in high school.
And it was at one of these little, you know, I think I might have been like an Elk's club,
like kind of cars and coffee thing, but actually right across from me sick village right there.
I don't even know if that place is still there. But um, and I walked up and I saw a Cadillac. And
it had, um, I guess it's a spotlight, right? The one that you have on the A pillar there was
it called. Um, and so it was black. It was all black. This is probably a 30s Cadillac. And,
um, you know, I don't know anything about these cars. So I'm like, Oh, was that was this a
police car? And the guy looked at me and he's like, it's a Cadillac. And I get, and then I'm like,
oh, I guess there were never Cadillac police cars. So that is true. But he should have been a
little bit more forthcoming, you know, with his description. Yeah. But, uh, you know,
was the kayak made of seal skin. That's another question. I did see one. Did you and then see
that he's on there? Yeah. That's true. Um, October 25th is Radwood, SoCal, November 15th,
Radwood Austin. Um, we got other stuff. You're going on a rally in Japan. Oh,
right in Japan. Yeah. Roundcat rally. Yep. If anyone wants to sign up for that. Yeah.
Yeah. Uh, yeah. And, uh, yeah. So things are all all happening. All coming along. A lot of
planning. We have a picture right now. Yeah. All right. How was the event in, um, at the Peter
set? It was cool, man. It was, it was really cool. Um, and it was, what was it exactly?
What was it called? So they, the Peterson has a series of cruisans on a monthly basis, uh,
which are like themed, right? So it's like JDM or whatever, right? And so this one was BMW
themed. And it was the first one they've ever done for BMWs, surprisingly, um, with such a massive
community down there. Um, and it was, it was called like, uh, uh, cars and pretzels or something,
you know, and or coffee and pretzels. Sorry. Uh, it was great. It was, it was a lot of, maybe
schnitzel. Are you saying a schnitzel or something? No pretzels. Yeah, pretzels are German. Um,
and yeah. So German pretzels. But it was actually really cool, a lot of really high quality stuff.
And also that it was very chill, like very laid back. And it was in that same place that we had
Radwood, you know, the top deck and that resin in up top and, uh, you had the option of, you know,
buying a combo ticket to get access to the, the vault and then the museum and, um, I, I actually got
to check it out. We had a booth there. So, um, as a, as a partner, I got access to the, to the whole
museum. And, um, we had an activation there just with like six curated cars and we had a
haggardy slash Radwood tent there, handed out a bunch of flyers. Um, and they had bill, a bill
Oberlin Oberlin Oberlin Oberlin Oberlin Oberlin Oberlin Oberlin. Sorry. Bill Oberlin, who's the
winningest like sports car, uh, driver in the US and he's pretty legendary and has driven a ton of
BMWs of all types. Um, I got a ride along with him at that, uh, Michelin event years ago,
I remember when I went with the, oh, yeah, yeah, the Z4 GT, Florida in seabring. Yeah. So, yeah,
super nice guy and, uh, met, uh, Tom Plasinski, who's the head of BMW Motorsport Classic. So
that was a great conversation. Uh, I hung out with Steven sports car there. You know, Steven,
Steve Gatrell was there. He brought his lightweight, uh, Kyle Van Hoeven, friend of ours, who
does a lot of marketing and social media for BMW CCA, uh, Ray, who's, uh, brought his Alpina E36
a bunch to our shows, uh, so, Kyle Radwoods over the years and, um, a few other folks. But yeah,
it was, it was awesome. And I mean, I, I really, it kind of reminded me of the fact that, um,
you know, we always talk about the story, right? The story of the story behind the car. But like,
like Porsche people, BMW people are so proud of like the individual elements and the heritage
and like why this car stay, you know, it's, I know it gets kind of corvette at times, but it's like,
straight up, like it reminded me of being at like, you know, any Porsche event. And you have like,
all this pride, like the, especially when it comes to Motorsport and how it, like these cars
we have so much heritage in that space and, um, you know, why these cars are significant. But, um,
the stories are always great, right? Like, oh, I acquired her from this person who did this and
this and this or I pulled it out of a barn and in all of that. So everybody was really like,
you know, uh, willing to talk about their car and like really excited to share all that information
and it was, it was fun to just kind of mingle. Um, I did, uh, finally check out the, uh, totally
awesome display that the Peterson has that was heavily inspired by Radwood. And they admit it.
Um, it was very well done. I have to say admit it. Yes. Uh, it was very, very well done.
It's all, it's all the cars. It's pretty impressive. Uh, it's, um, just the way that they did it.
It was like the collaboration that we did with at the lane years ago. Uh, so they did like an
integration of fashion and lifestyle. So they had like, um, you know, not just cars, but, um,
a lot of pop culture elements and artwork and all that shit. So it's really cool. I mean, I think
it's worth checking out and then come to Radwood events also. Um, but yeah, it was, it was fun to see
and, um, they had the, uh, short wheelbase, uh, Audi Sport Quattro there, which is super cool.
And I mean, it's a car that you never get to see anywhere and, um, it was fun to check that out
in person. Um, a bunch of concepts and, and other things that are kind of escaped me right now
without looking at my pictures. But, um, I have to say, though, that we are working with the
Peterson. We do have a partnership with them to bring out some special cars to Radwood,
SoCal. And I can now announce that we will have, uh, the Tim Burton Batmobile at Radwood SoCal.
So it's the actual car. So that's going to be a Radwood SoCal on display. Uh, we have an EB110
on display and then a third, uh, surprise vehicle. So there's a couple of options there and we'll,
we'll confirm here very soon. But, um, it's cool to check that thing out in the open. I,
I don't know if it's ever been pulled out of the museum and shown at a show. Uh, so this is a
pretty big deal, uh, and it is owned by a very prominent production company out there that, um,
will not be named. So the fact that they're letting us do this is pretty awesome. So it's going to be,
kind of the showcase vehicle, Radwood SoCal front and center there in the royalty display. So
come and check that out. Build. Was it George Barris or something or who built that thing?
Probably. Cause that, and that was built based on a C3 Corvette. I think so. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Oh, wow. I thought it was bigger than that. But I think it is bigger, but it's just like
based on and then it's just huge. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. I'm curious to see it up close.
There was one up a car week that was broken down on the way to our DWA hang and it looked like a
weird. It almost looks like 3D printed like skin or something like. It did not look like individual
parts. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like didn't, um, that one quotes comedian with like the puppet,
the Marionette guy buy one of those. I wouldn't even burn ones. You know, I'm talking about that.
Yeah. Jeff Dunham. Jeff Dunham. I think Jeff Dunham has one. Somehow that guy probably has
like a billion dollars. Yeah. Yeah. He's like a fluffy. Yeah. A bigger, bigger, bigger. Yeah. Which is
just. Yeah. Well, well, um, well, that sounds cool. Good times. I had a good, good time. Yeah.
My friend. Oh, you didn't go to the Italian thing on Saturday. I did not go to the Italian thing
on Saturday, but I, oh, I, I saw Will Kriger there, talked to him for a while. He went and
several people I talked to there, including one there. Yeah. Yeah. Stephen went. Alex Porter,
a bring a trailer, talked to him for a little while. He went and it was interesting because the way
that they described the event. And it, it was like they, they, they, they highlighted the same
things, but had different perspectives on it. So Will Kriger's thing was like, I like that it was
sleepy and mellow. And I felt because there was a, it was kind of expensive to get in, but I was
okay with that. I wanted it to be a little more chill and laid back and like not so crowded.
Alex's take on it was like that it was really empty, but it was like not necessarily a good thing.
It felt a little empty. And Stephen's thing was like, it was like middle ground like, yeah, it was,
it was, it was actually really nice. And it was cool. And it was, it was, yeah, it was a mellow show.
And that was spun into positive way. So it was like two positives, one negative and describing
the same thing. So I think it's definitely something that has room to grow. And it sounds like it
was not heavily attended, but the, the displayed vehicles were really cool. The venue was really
rad. The venue looked great. Yeah, it's only their second one. I didn't get fed a single ad for it,
or any hype about it in any way. I knew about it just because I'm, you know, I would dory an alpha,
I'm friends with him on Instagram and then, and then mbom or whatever the main, the one that runs it,
like two of the guys, but that's the only reason I knew about it. Yeah, there was this very little,
and they didn't even talk that much about it. Very little chatter, I guess I should say. I didn't
hear about it until like literally a week or two. You went to the first one, right?
Yeah, I went to the first one and at the arts district there, downtown, it was cool. Yeah,
I mean, it was a similar idea. Like I feel like it was, it was super chill. You know, kind of people
came and went and really good displays and good vibes. And I know they had a, they had a thing. It's,
what's it called? Like Makina? Makina? Makina? Makina, yeah. Makina, yeah. So they had a, I think one of
those, the Peterson things was themed around Makina's mind over the whole, like a couple of months
ago. And people were thinking that was like the second one, but it was actually just like a themed,
right? You know, it was kind of like people thought that the Radwood during car week was a Radwood.
Right, right, right. Exactly. Yeah. By the way, so at the BMW thing, so this guy, he goes by E30
Bra on Instagram and he's got those like heavily modified E30s that are super restomated. He had two
of them at that paddock pop up that we had. Oh, yeah, I remember the one. And they're like, they're
big six figure builds. Like this guy spent a ton of money on them, but they're really well done.
I talked to him about it and I invited him to SoCal. He's going to bring a car to, to our event
there. And he said that he had a really good time and his dad loved our show at car week. And I was
like, well, you're going to love our big, big full skill. Yeah. That was a little sample, you know?
And yeah, I mean, I think we can say this here among ourselves, but there is an award that he could,
he's absolutely in the running for if he shows up, because it's like the perfect example of like a
rad mod, right? Like he's got a turbocharged S 54 with like custom everything, like every single
bit of the interior is wrapped in leather. And like, it's crazy. Yeah, it's so much. But I mean,
you know, in terms of like the aesthetics, it's one thing, right? Like the color choices and
all that. That's all personal and like it's got really big BBSs and stuff like that. But I mean,
in terms of the execution and what he's done is it's pretty wild. Yeah, it's not period correct,
but that's why that award was created. Exactly. Yeah. And I was going to say one last thing about
the BMW thing. I was really stoked on this one car. It was my favorite car to the event,
car to the event. And it was like the nicest E24 M6 I've ever seen. And Warren will know this
because he was there, but it was at the same like the same condition as that E28 M5 that got
Radiston show at PNW. Like that level, but it was it was a dark metallic green, a gate green.
It was almost like a it was like a charcoal green. Beautiful color. It's like the gray, the gray
green, gray green. And with like, you know, the tidy BMW, I'm sorry, the tidy Euro bumpers and like
so clean. And it had a green cloth interior with a green dash. It was so sick, dude. And it was
absolutely impeccable. Like, you know, like the classically shade of like you can eat off of
it, like literally, like the engine bay was immaculate. Such a nice car, man. It was a standout.
I don't know if because they did do some awards. I don't know if it went an award, but that would
have been my choice for something if not the best in show there, but it was it was a really,
really nice car. Very cool. I have some pictures. I'll post later.
Post them. Sounds sickening. It was so. Ready?
It's trivia time. Recently, automotive icon passed away. Tom Matano,
the inventor or designer of the Mazda Miata and FDR-X7. I think you had a
MPV. MPV. You met him, right? He was the head of my program at school.
Yeah. So yeah, you knew him. Yeah. He was around, right? Yeah. He'd be there three days
a week. He'd fly in on the Academy's private jet, stay in San Francisco for three days at the school,
and then leave. Wow. I did not know that. The Art Academy had a private jet. Yes. They're the
biggest property owners in all of San Francisco proper. Oh, interesting. I didn't realize they owned
those buildings. Oh, yeah. And all the dorms and everything. Yeah. Wow. Because the school started
in like 19, 20 or something. Yeah. And they happened to offer automotive design, which was like,
yeah, I wanted to go to that too. I don't have any means. But I'm glad you did. And you got to
meet Mr. Matano. Yeah. All right. He's on that. Told me the Honda S2000 hood was too flat.
Oh, nice. Did you get him to sign your dash or anything? No, I did. I love that. I saw
something the other day. It was like some Ferrari. It was like a forget which old it was a Ferrari
exact. And it's like instantly raised the value of this car. And it's him signing. I'm like,
yeah, right. In like no one, you know, it's one of these stupid Instagram posts. So where did Mr.
Matano begin his career? Oh, man, I shouldn't know this. Well, he was he was in Japan before he came
here, right? That might be true. Yes. Yes. But he did not start in Japan. Did not start in Japan?
He said he did not start in Japan. We worked for him. I don't I can do that. I should know this.
I don't. Was he with Chrysler or something? Close. General Motors in Australia. Oh,
interesting. Okay. Mid 70s. And he designed, and I would ask you what he designed, but you both
probably never even heard of this car. He holding holding Torana, which looks. It looks kind of like
a barracuda. I'll show it to Laney. It looks like a barricade. Looks like a Dotson. I don't know,
what do you what do you call that? It looks. Yeah. It looks like one of those 80s forads or something
to or even like a, you know, like a, like a, oh, like a Cortina, like a Cortina, like a later Cortina
or like a. Yeah. Yeah. It's like that. It's like a small, it's a small, it's like a small muscle car,
which means it's almost like the jacket Japanese knockout stuff, right? I think it was a hatchback
also. And it had some cool variants. Like there was some with like sea pillar, right? Then sea pillar.
Yeah. And holding Torana. I think they made one with a V8. It's kind of cool. It looks real
drive. It's kind of cool, right? Yeah. It's, it's nice. Did Mattano was fairly young? Yeah, he
wasn't 70. Yeah, he wasn't that old, right? Yeah. I mean, he seemed like a super, super nice guy.
They're like everything that I've seen, like the outpouring and like every, like not a single person
has had a negative thing about him. Like he's like a super nice guy, very approachable. Like,
like I think his like motto in life was always be inspired, you know, by like everything you see,
right? And like, yeah. It was very, I think he was a mentor to a lot of people. That's cool.
That's right. And I mean, it'd be, it's such an awesome thing to have your, your career shaped
around a car like a Miata. I mean, it's such a fun car. So, and the fan base is so like rabid.
And they just adore him, right? Yeah. It's kind of like the Cheryl Kelbee thing. Yeah. Yeah,
smiles for a mile, man. Yeah. So we're about here. Let's see. So I know he was involved with
obviously the Miata, but then FDRX7 as well. He's credited with that, which is a pretty beautiful
legendary design. I thought there were some other ones outside of the one that you're talking about.
I think I said MTV and then I, there might have been like a,
I mean, might have been like Mazda six or something like that. I was just saying that was his first
car. That was the first car he was credited with having some design, you know, input on was the
version of the piranha. Holden Tarana. Tarana. I keep hearing piranha over here.
Piranha is a better name. That's a much better name. It is. Yeah.
Anyhow, check it out. Check it out. We'll see you on the rally. We'll see you next week.
You're all the best. Goodbye. Love you. Good job.
