Welcome to the Carpool podcast with Kelly.
I don't see these people very often.
So then to like be have my only interaction with these people,
be like, hey, oh, good.
How are the kids like these service level convos?
I'm not interested.
That's what my husband's for.
And Liz.
Sometimes just like what where in your life
are you not succeeding at something?
And just like go all into that and like trial and error
that until you figure it out.
Your mom time off starts now.
Welcome back to the Carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz.
Hey, everyone.
Happy Friday.
Happy Halloween.
Oh, spooky.
What's everyone up to?
Trick or treating?
Well, we're trick or treating.
We're going to Craig's house.
My brother's hosting.
He lives in the best neighborhood.
It's all about having friends in good suburban neighborhoods.
Uh-huh.
You know what I mean?
His neighborhood is flat.
It good sidewalks.
The whole.
Yeah, like 1960s, 70s homes.
Like everything's flat.
They're close enough together.
They're close together.
We did my neighborhood last year and it was like there's
some hills, some of the homes are too far away.
It's like the kids just.
And there was like no one.
There were a lot of people that weren't handing out candy.
That was the problem with your neighborhood
because your neighborhood, the houses are just more spread out.
But then, you know, you finally hike it up a hill
and then it's like, OK, that house has its lights off.
So let's hike it up again.
I know it was not the vibe, but yeah.
Which is fine.
But I think Craig's neighborhood is going to be the vibe.
I'm so excited.
I'm so excited.
Charlotte's making chili.
I'm making chili today.
I know that's going to be a chili heavy week.
Well, here's why.
Because we have parent teacher conferences tomorrow
and me and my friends offer to make the teacher's dinner
because they have to see their conferences.
Oh, that was sweet of you.
I thought that was sweet of me, too.
But I was like, I'll make the chili.
So I'm doing Chilean.
So here's a kind of a group project I need to work on.
I'm doing Chilean fixings for said chili.
I know what the chili toppings are.
Like I'm not asking for that.
I'm going to bring my chili in a crock pot.
But like, what's the best way to serve these things?
Because like they kind of need to be on ice,
like the cheese and the sour cream.
So what do I do here?
And say, fixin's in the cooler?
Fixin's in the cooler.
Open it up.
Like a small one.
Like a small cooler.
Yeah, of fixins.
Yeah.
What are your chili fixins?
Shredded cheese.
You know, like in maybe sour cream, like in a perfect world,
I would love to have like a green onion.
But I find it's so hard to buy a green onion.
Oh, really?
I don't find that a minor one.
Because I'm the only one who will add it.
So I'm just like, it goes bad and I don't have enough things.
So I'm just like, oh, let me buy this just to like use it for a little bit.
But I do love a green onion.
Now, I'm such a Ritz-Krecker jalapeno person on my chili too.
Oh yeah, I love a, I love a peño.
I love a jalapeno.
Remember when I said that and everyone thought that's how I thought they pronounced it?
People can't take a joke these days.
No.
Um, but I source, you know, I love to source.
I think it's the gatherer in me.
Like it's, it's my prehistoric roots of being a gatherer.
Okay.
I love to source like the best jalapenos and there's this person.
I don't even know how I'd explain to you how I know them.
It doesn't matter.
But they can their own jalapenos and they give jars to my mother-in-law every year.
I don't have a direct connection.
And I'm like, Barb, give me the jalapenos.
Barb, if you're listening to this podcast, because I know you are, I need it to hook up.
She, well, she already gave me, she gave me two, two jars, but as much as I love the
teachers at my kids' school, I'm simply not.
You can't, well, because they want to appreciate it.
But they are, and I need to learn, I need to learn how to jar these jalapenos.
I need to get the recipe.
I need to perfect it.
Jarring seems so jarring is what it is.
It seems so, so jarring.
It's just the pressure of like, did it seal?
Like I, and then you just stick it on your shelf and hope mold doesn't grow.
Like, I don't like that.
It's so stressful.
I know.
I do think like once you learn how to do it and go through it, it's probably super easy.
It's just one of those things that there will probably be a little bit of trial and error.
But yeah, it's, it's stressful.
But like such a game changer, I like love people who jar.
It's such, and like, what a fun gift to bring it.
A lot of people do pickles.
So that's why that I like that this person does the jalapeno approach.
Like they're doing something different and that different is jalapenos.
You know, who does have a really good like game changing jalapeno is Trader Joe's.
It's like a spicy sweet jalapeno.
Grayson turned me on to them.
I didn't know that.
I didn't know that.
And they are excellent.
OK, that's good to know.
But I could see micro, I could see it being a new micro hobby of mine
if I can figure out how to jar, jar jalapenos.
Here's my love.
We just talk about micro hobbies all the time.
But here's what I'm like, really loving about it
because I have a new micro hobby that I want to tackle.
And it's it's not always about sometimes just about like what where in your life
are you not succeeding at something and just like go all into that
and like trial and error that until you figure it out.
And I think yours should be jalapenos.
Mm hmm.
Mine now that I'm a lob girl and like I'm going to be a lob girl
for a very long time.
I might even go shorter.
I love it.
I need to figure out how to do a proper blowout
because if I could do a proper full glam blowout, like if I had three hours
to get ready and no children around me and you said like do your hair
however you want, it would still take me 15 minutes
because I do not know how to do my hair.
Yeah, I've always been bad at hair.
And I'm like, what if I just watched enough reels, bought all the products,
did the things and just kept going until I figured it out
because if I could have a blowout, honestly, it would be over for everyone.
It would be fair.
I think I have so many thoughts on this.
First of all, what a good return on your investment
because if once you learn how to blow out your hair,
you'll be blowing out your hair the same way in your fifties, in your sixties.
True, true, like I think if you take this time now, it would be a good ROI.
Secondly, you have your hair is not that you don't have that much hair.
So like you give them all the time in the world.
It's not going to ever take that long, but I agree.
You could perfect your craft.
I could perfect my craft and I do think if I did perfect my craft,
it would still probably only take me 20 minutes.
Now, you know, who has a great blowout routine?
Who? Mary Orton.
Mary Orton does.
And but it's also like, or do you have good hair?
Well, and that's the thing is my hair is like thin and like some people just have
that like thick like coarse hair and I just have like very thin,
like kind of falls flat hair.
But can you just put enough product in to make it work?
Well, and I think that's the question.
OK, so that's a great micro hobby.
So you're doing that.
And I'm going to maybe I'm not trying to sound like a windbag,
but I might think about trying to jar jalapenos.
Another thing on my radar in the kitchen,
micro hobby I'm trying to attack, which unfortunately for me,
both of these things should have been done over the summer when it was
jalapeno season.
The other thing, though, is zucchini bread.
Now, Tyler's grandma, who I've spoken about several times, she is.
None of us hold a candle to her.
I mean, she is just she's absolutely next level.
Inspiration like ballerina farms could never.
No, touch, I love it.
Like it's just like not even close, could never, could never.
Anyway, she makes the zucchini bread.
It's woman's 90.
She makes this almost 90.
She makes a zucchini bread.
I'm sorry, can you hear James crying in the background?
I can hear him crying.
I think I'm going to I'm so sorry.
He's fine.
Someone will get him.
Yeah, he's fine.
Anyway, I'm like sweating right now.
She makes the zucchini bread, Elizabeth.
You would think like we should she'll bring it whenever we have a birthday party
in like the way that George will turn his nose up to the cupcakes,
the cake, the ice cream over the zucchini bread.
And one thing I appreciate about her is she's not stingy with the recipe.
I'm sorry, to be stingy with a recipe is such a it's such a character flaw.
I don't think not.
Not only did she give me the recipe, she laminated it and gave it to me.
Yeah, I'm also going to learn how to perfect her zucchini recipe.
OK, well, here's what I think.
Honestly, I think we need to hold each other accountable.
And each week we're going to do a check in.
Like, have you bought the canning supplies?
OK, no, I have you bought jalapenos.
Have you because I just ordered?
Oh, this will be one of my last three transactions.
I just ordered some styling stuff.
OK, I actually love that we should do weekly check ins.
Weekly check ins, weekly check ins on our micro hobbies.
And even if it takes us a long time, at least again, we have something to talk about.
But that's what I'm saying.
Like, I don't care if this takes me six months to perfect.
Like it takes I will figure it out if I stay focused on it.
OK, so I'm going to learn.
I'm going to, you know what?
I'm going to take my first step right now.
I'm going to text my mother-in-law.
I'm going to say, can you get me the jalapeno recipe?
OK, so that's Kelly's update.
I am going to look at Mary Orton's page to find her blowout.
And I found like, I kind of need to find like one girl at a time.
I did find one girl that looked like she kind of had a similar hair to me
on like Instagram.
I'm like, I'm going to try hers a few times.
Yeah. And see how it goes.
So like, that's what's new with us.
And then it's so fun when everyone's like, what's new, Kelly?
It's like, well, I'm trying to learn how to jar jalapenos and you laugh.
But that's a conversation starter.
People are so scared.
I would really challenge you.
Like if you want to build deeper relationships, don't just say you're good.
Find something to talk to them about.
Tell them what's actually new.
Now, we had the farm party last week and one of my notes for myself,
something I need to work on is I need to stop.
I'm not the best at working the room.
Like Tyler, my husband is so good at, hey, how are you popping in?
He wants to hit everybody. I don't need to hit everybody.
I mean, I'll say hi, but I want to I want to sit down.
I want to get to know someone or I want to catch up with someone in a real
meaningful way. I don't see these people very often.
So then to like be have my only interaction with people, be like, hey,
oh, good, how are the kids like these service level convos?
I'm not interested. That's what my husband's for.
Yeah, I'm ready to go a layer deeper.
So at the next function like that, watch out, because I'm playing on cornering
and I'm going to ask, like, you know, how your relationship with Jesus is.
Or like, I'm going to go, I'm going to get crazy with it. Sure.
That's normally the approach I take.
I couldn't do it at the farm party because A, there was just like nowhere to sit.
And also I was just like always on my feet with the kids.
So I did not really do things the way I wanted to, but I did dig deep on
with a couple of people. So but that's that's where I like to stay.
Is the deep end?
Tell me anything. Yeah.
So anyway, that's that's kind of what's new with us.
I do something else, though.
We have been asked for the Dancing with the Stars regaps to come back.
So we are going to bring them back.
We will do them before Blake's besties.
This is our last Blake's besties today.
So in case you wanted to hear Dancing with Stars, but couldn't handle
Blake's besties, we'll do it at the end.
But like I'm just kind of wanting to like do an overview.
Like I have so many overview thoughts on Dancing with the Stars and I love it.
Anyway, another micro hobby of mine, lightly,
I've been transacting kind of like a major way.
Kelly, every other email it seems that pops across my phone is like you ordering something.
OK, well, one thing about me is like I'm going to ebb and flow.
Like I don't buy anything for a very long time and then I buy a couple of things.
I also am trying to make my life easier.
And I'm so obsessed with Merrick and her outfits that when she posts something,
I'm like, OK, I'm just going to buy the whole outfit.
Like I don't have time to like know what looks good.
I don't want to do this.
I need I feel like I need all of those things.
And Merrick is such a good influencer because I'm telling you if she's wearing pants,
she will if you buy those pants, she will be wearing those pants the entire year.
She she does something that she actually like
shows multiple ways to wear the pant that she's telling you to buy.
And they're not just like plain either.
It's like a mustard corduroy pant.
And she's like, here's 10 ways to wear a mustard corduroy pant.
You're like, OK, so I can justify this $150 purchase.
That's what I'm saying.
So the problem was that with the outfit I wanted to buy is I had to again,
I had to source from multiple different areas.
So it was a lot of small orders.
Yeah. But they were several orders because I'm trying to recreate this outfit.
I think I'm going to wear it to Thanksgiving.
So that's why it's looked a little bad.
I also don't like that you can see things like I'm more scared
of you seeing things than my husband seeing things.
Why? I don't know. I feel like no, I guess that's not true.
I guess I just like need to realize that people can see people have access to my
email, they can see my transaction. A lot of people have access to your email.
So I should just like keep that in mind before I try to like buy.
Like I have a shopping email. Do you?
So yeah, so it's like it's a separate Gmail.
No, but let me tell you about it.
It's a separate Gmail and if anytime someone asked for my email
or I need to place an email for like an order online, I use that one.
And number one, it filters all of the promotional emails to that one.
So I don't have to clean them out of my main inbox.
And number two, I can easily find like order numbers.
So I just go to that email and then I don't have like a million emails in there.
I can much more easily find it.
That's an interesting idea. It's an interesting theory.
OK, so let's talk about what you've been transacting on specifically.
So now it's time for the last three transactions
where we share our recent big cuts of transactions.
OK, so the first is the biggest.
The first is the splurgeist. OK.
I bought a pair of Sam Edelman boots. Oh, now I'm just exhausted with the boot.
So this I'm honestly I'm over it. I'm exhausted.
I missed the days when all you needed was a riding boot.
And that's all. Now we need mid-calf, low-calf, pointy, round, suede, leather, brown.
Like it's exhausting and I'm not participating in it anymore.
So I like the chocolate brown trend.
First of all, that's an excellent, very flattering color.
Where has it been? Like where has it been?
Why is chocolate brown making such a ginormous splash?
You know, like other colors that come in, I get like butter yellow at a moment.
I get that ebbing and flowing.
Chocolate brown is a neutral. It's a neutral, Elizabeth.
It's it's it's white. It's black. It's brown.
And like that camel camel color is a neutral.
Like that's always in gray is always in black and white always in.
There's no reason for chocolate brown to not always be in.
It's an excellent color.
I don't know.
I don't know what the deal is.
It's not like and it's not that it was ever out.
It's just like it wasn't in in such a way that it was available.
No, I feel like it was out.
I you think like if you wore chocolate brown, I was like,
wow, that's an outdated thing to be wearing.
I don't know. I don't think it was out.
I just don't think that people were making anything in that color.
So anyway, Merrick, though, was like, hey, and it's also so hard with these boots,
because now you're telling me like skiing jeans are out.
So what am I doing with taller boots?
And Merrick was like,
here's all these ways that you can wear tall boots.
And she's like, you can wear this is so stupid.
I can't I'm going to admit this out loud.
But she's like, you can wear your tall boots with pants that have a wider leg.
And I'm like, I can wear my tall boots with pants that have a wider leg.
And no one's then no one knows if it's a a foot or a leg.
Full boot or an ankle. No one knows.
How would they know?
How would they know?
So I was like, that's a really good point.
Also, she's like, you can wear them with short dresses.
I don't really wear short dresses right now.
Just like not really the season of my life.
She but you can also wear with long dresses.
I'm like, OK, well, I do like to wear long dresses and boots.
So they're suede chocolate brown, which again, I'm liking chocolate brown.
So that's my color palette.
Like if you were wondering what something is, it's chocolate brown.
Like that's what I'm wearing.
I don't really do a lot of black.
I like navy and I like chocolate brown and chocolate brown.
So I bought these same adamant tall chocolate brown suede shoes.
I hope I wear them all the time.
I know, I hope you do too.
I need to wear them all the time.
I need to I need to wear the soles off.
But now that Merrick has them, I'm telling you,
she will be showing them multiple times.
Yeah, yeah, she already has.
She already has. Yeah.
OK, well, that's smart to get something that Merrick has.
I also bought some new shoes.
I was in the market for new like sneakers, running shoes, gym shoes.
And I love the Brooks shoes off Amazon.
And like every seven months, I just need to buy a new pair.
And that time has has come.
Happy for you.
So I bought those happy for you.
I. Going on this outfit that I'm trying to recreate,
I bought this this this episode sponsored by Merrick.
It's actually not.
But like it's all Merrick for me.
She was wearing those.
You you wore them to the farm party.
So maybe you influenced them.
But they're chocolate brown because that's the color palette that I'm in.
They're the chocolate brown faux leather studs, Colette pant.
No, they're so good.
I wore them to the farm party.
They were such a show.
Did you size up?
I think I got a twenty nine.
And like before pregnancy, I was like a twenty eight.
OK, I got a twenty eight.
But they're good.
They are normally like faux leather pants are a little bit stiff.
And like sometimes your legs, it kind of sweaty in them.
Totally. You know what I mean?
These are more so comfortable.
I was between these are Spanx jeans,
because Spanx jeans are pretty comfortable too.
And these were comfier than those.
Like they were they're a show stopper.
They make the entire outfit and they are incredibly comfortable.
So anyway, that's what I bought.
I'm going to have the same pair of pants now.
We have the same pair of pants, which is a bummer, not a bummer.
It's just it's a choice.
Well, I'm going to wear this outfit
and then I'm going to stitch it with Merrick's real.
I'm going to post on my card.
So you can just be like, because Merrick, let's be clear,
Merrick wore it better, but I'm just trying to show that I also wore it
and I bought everything she told me to buy. OK.
Um, next thing I bought, like I already alluded to, I bought some.
I don't know if it was it was like a volumizing spray
for my hair, because part of the blowout is I wanted to be like big and dramatic.
Sure. And blow outy.
So I just like question.
Huh. Have you ever had like a really good blowout?
I don't know if I've ever had like a killer like Hollywood blowout. No.
I'm wondering if like that should be the first part of the side quest for you.
Like, should you just go get a blow out?
See if it's possible, because like, what a professional dry bar and say, I want.
I want a big blowout like I want to be a 90s.
I just think it could be good for a couple of reasons.
I think it could give you some good technique.
This is a good idea.
And I think it could be good to like know what you're actually after.
Book appointment at blow dry and I'll let you guys know how it goes.
I think that's and Barb already texted me and said, she'll get me the recipe
and she has more jars for me.
So do I need the recipe if I just keep sourcing more jars?
I do. Will you get some of the jars for me?
Yeah, you'll get me one.
I'll give you one. Thank you.
You're welcome. All right.
OK, so we're making we're making waves.
OK, my last piece of this outfit I had to buy is the top.
So I've got the chocolate brown pants this way.
Brown shoes and Merrick is such a good high low girl.
I wouldn't even say high low. Well, depends on your she's like medium.
Like you're she's never going to link a top of four hundred dollars.
That would be crazy. But like the boots were two hundred, which is a lot.
Yeah, that's why I'm kind of like needing to wear them or I'm going to be sick to my stomach.
But then she popped on over to Old Navy
and she is won't shut up about this Old Navy chartreuse sweater.
She keeps wearing it.
And I'm like, I think I think we have similar colouring her and I.
Yeah. And they were on sale for twenty five dollars.
I bought two colours of this Old Navy sweatshirt.
Now, sweater. Now, I am normally a sweater snob, and I really I'm a snob
because I I'm a snob because I'm not the best laundress, if I'm being totally honest.
So I always don't I don't like buying like I have a couple.
I have like two cashmere sweaters from Quince. I dry clean those.
My other sweaters, though, like I'm trying to only do cotton
because like I just can't wash these polyester blends like they shrink.
I don't know how to do it.
I don't want to like take a polyester sweater to the dry cleaners.
That seems crazy.
So I don't normally buy sweaters that aren't 100 percent cotton.
And it's not even that they're that much more expensive,
like J crew factory has so many 100 percent cotton sweaters.
But this one's not 100 percent cotton.
So I'm a little worried to see how it will hold up in the wash.
You know, and just like let's get a going list
when you're done canning, like maybe we tackle laundry.
No, I need such me, my friend, we're talking about this.
Like I'm just not a good laundry.
I don't know if I don't have the right system.
If I just don't know, I don't have the right accessories.
But like frequently I have like stains that just won't come out.
And like I have the things.
I have the Miss Mouse. I have the shout. I have all the crap.
