Kia EV2 Interview with Sjoerd Knipping, COO Kia Europe, Suzuki e Vitara Irish Launch, Bolt and Nvidia join forces for Robotaxis, Audi A2 etron confirmed, Skoda ENYAQ Coupe RS Driven, Polestar wins award for Live Lane in Google Maps, ZapMap Live Price Data
The Audi A2 is a small car model name, and the podcast is talking about an electric version called the A2 e-tron. That means it would be powered by a battery instead of a gasoline engine. The key point is that it’s expected to be coming soon.
The Audi e-tron is an electric car line from Audi. Instead of using gasoline, it runs on a battery. The podcast brings it up while talking about EV news and upcoming models.
Live price data means EV charging costs are updated in real time (or near real time) rather than shown as static estimates. This helps drivers compare stations and plan charging based on current rates.
Bank of Ireland is mentioned as a partner for the Kildare Nevo driving experience. This indicates the event has institutional sponsorship, which can affect logistics and accessibility.
Real world driving data is information collected from actual trips on real roads. Self-driving companies use it to improve how the AI performs in everyday traffic.
Fleet data is the real-world information gathered from lots of cars driving around. Autonomy teams use it to learn what happens on real streets, not just in simulations.
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is the EU’s strict privacy law governing how personal data is collected, stored, and processed. The segment mentions GDPR compliance to emphasize that fleet processing must protect user privacy.
Kia EV2 is Kia’s newer electric SUV meant to be a more affordable way to get into EVs. They’re saying it still feels roomy and tech-rich, not like a stripped-down budget EV.
A flat floor means the cabin floor is flatter than in many gas cars. That usually makes the car feel more spacious, especially for passengers in the back.
A dedicated EV platform means the car is designed specifically for electric power from the start. That can help create more room inside and make the battery fit better.
The Mini Aceman is a small crossover that’s in the same general “compact” buyer space. It’s mentioned as one of the cars the Audi A2 e-tron will be competing against.
The Audi A2 e-tron is a planned entry-level electric Audi positioned to start around the €30,000 mark. The discussion highlights Audi’s strategy to lower the entry point into the e-tron lineup and target everyday practicality.
The Skoda Enyaq Coupe RS is a sportier, higher-performance electric Skoda. The host is reviewing it and talking about how it performs and how much it costs.
Live Lane Guidance is a navigation feature that tells you which lane to be in right before a turn or exit. It updates in real time so you don’t have to guess based on the map alone.
The infotainment system is the car’s screen and controls for things like music and navigation. The host is saying the layout feels a bit old-fashioned and not very ergonomic.
Trail mode is a driving setting for rough ground. It helps the car grip better by changing how power is delivered.

Welcome back to the Nevo EV News podcast. If it's Tuesday, it must be Nevo EV News Day.
On this week's episode, we're going to be talking about Bolt and NVIDIA
and joining forces for their RoboTaxi. I have an interview with Sjoerd Kipping with Kia Europe
in relation to EV2, which is going to be on the channel very soon once the embargo lifts
with the driving impressions. We've got confirmation that the Audi A2 e-tron is going to be coming.
Last week, I was driving the Skoda Anyak Coupe coast-to-coast, chatting about that.
Polestar and Polestar 4 specifically and the Google Maps Live lane change is after winning an award.
The Zap map in the UK are now within their app are showing prices of the chargers that are
across all the UK network, so hopefully we'll see something like that soon in Ireland.
Yesterday, we attended the Suzuki Evatarra Irish launch and as always said the date for the
Kildare, Nevo driving experience in partnership with Bank of Ireland on April 26th in the Cura race
course. For those who don't know, my name is Derek Riley and on this podcast, we chat about
all things electric vehicles. Nevo's Ireland's only dedicated EV platform and we'll be chatting
about where we were this week, what we've been driving, what we've been doing between the podcasts.

So first story today folks, we have the Bolt and NVIDIA RoboTaxi story. Very interesting.
Bolt to build an AI foundation for scaling autonomous vehicles in Europe would NVIDIA
drive Hyperion. So Bolt for those who don't know is a ride hailing service. It's very similar to
Uber, Lyft, Fresno, et cetera, based out of Tallinn in Estonia. And they classify themselves as a
leading European mobility platform. And last week announced it will work with NVIDIA to build an AI
foundation for scaling autonomous vehicles in Europe. This initiative will combine Bolt's
extensive ride hailing and car sharing fleet data with NVIDIA's omniverse libraries, the NVIDIA Cosmos
World Foundation models, the NVIDIA Alpameo or Mayo, AV Foundation models, and the NVIDIA AI
infrastructure to accelerate safe AV autonomous vehicle development for European roads. The
resulting autonomous vehicle platform will be deployed on the NVIDIA drive Hyperion computer
and sensor architecture to deliver RoboTaxi service that meets Europe's high safety and
performance standards. Bolt itself operates across more than 50 countries and 850 cities,
serving about 200 million customers every year. Every day it's ride hailing, car sharing,
micro-mobility, and delivery operations generate real world driving data across some of the most
complex urban environments in the world. That operational footprint provides a practical
foundation for building autonomous vehicle systems that really work reliably across a range of
European countries where transport infrastructure and regulations can differ considerably.
So, learning from reality, Bolt's strategy uses the extensive fleet data to build a learning
engine grounded in real world driving, data sovereignty, all processing of Bolt fleet
data will utilize privacy preserving mechanisms to ensure strict compliance with GDPR and EU
cyber safety, cybersecurity standards. The next generation NVIDIA autonomous platform,
Bolt will integrate the NVIDIA drive Hyperion platform designed for RoboTaxi's ready deployments.
The system will leverage dual NVIDIA drive AGX tour processors with a multi-sensor
architecture combining LiDAR, camera, and radar for robust precision and redundancy.
Running a safety certified NVIDIA drive OS, the system provides high performance compute
required for real-time processing and level four autonomous capabilities.
The platform is designed to work seamlessly with Alpameo foundation models,
Cosmos, and Omniverse, new REC across training, simulation, and in-vehicle deployment.
There's a lot of lingo there folks. But it's a European, and I was chatting recently on the
My Wall Street podcast, Stock Club, and just about autonomous vehicles and where
the different companies are coming from. So on the podcast, Michael was asking me,
or Mike was asking me about how is Europe doing with all of this. And I was saying that the US
are leading the way as well as China. Well, it's great to see that we're getting some autonomous
vehicle stuff happening in Europe as well. We did have that first drive in the
Moya from Volkswagen ID buzz there a couple of months ago now at this stage.
Next up on the podcast, we were last week in Lisbon to drive the Kia EV2. I can't talk about
that next week's podcast, but I was able to interview Shored, keeping from Kia Europe.
And so let's have a listen to that interview.
Shored, we're here in Lisbon and the Irish group have brought the weather. So it's a bit wetter
today, I believe. But we're here for a very exciting new car for Kia with the EV2,
the entry level, full electric vehicle. Can you tell me a bit about it?
Oh, great. It's exactly as you say. So first of all, thanks for coming to Lisbon for this very
important introduction. And as you mentioned, EV2 for us is now the, I would say, affordable
entry point into electrified mobility to be more specific into electrified SUV.
Having said that, at the same time, it offers actually, as you will probably experience today,
roominess and technology that you could also expect in the upper segment, so to speak.
When doing the research for this, a lot of some of the people that have driven us already at the
pre in Norway are talking about how the quality of EV2 is EV9 put into a smaller package.
Sometimes we get a smaller car or more affordable car and some of the features are removed.
That's not the case with EV2. No, I think we tried to find a very good balance between
utilizing the synergies that we have off the EGMP platform and indeed the technologies that we have
in the upper segment vehicles like EV9, EV6, but also the three, four and five.
To utilize this also for the EV2, not to make any compromises in terms of quality, technology,
customer centricity in offering EV electric mobility. And I think that's why you see a very
good package that brings this now down into a, I would say, BSUV segment as well for us.
An expanding segment, excitement within the electric vehicle space that's growing within
Europe. And you're really helping that as well short because two battery sizes, because sometimes
when we see small electric vehicle, we think small range. That's not going to be the case with EV2,
which are standard range over 300 kilometers and your long range over 450 kilometers.
This is not an urban car. This is going to cover across the country, potentially in Ireland.
Absolutely. So I think we have here a very differentiated strategy when it comes to the
battery offering. Even though you could say EV2 is an urban SUV, considering its exterior dimensions
of only 4.06 meters, thanks to the EGMP platform, flat floor, long wheelbase. It offers roominess
that you see in upper segments. But if you want to have customers, for example, moving from an
upper segment ICE into a BSUV dedicated EV like EV2, you also need to be able to offer the range
that goes with it. So this is why I think there's two different target customers for the entry battery
that you could say is the urban SUV that gives you still more than 300 kilometers of range.
But at the same time, those people that want to utilize EV2 as their main car in the household,
the long range offers this opportunity with over 450 kilometers of range and the roominess
that comes with the car due to the EGMP platform. The presentation before we did this interview
short, we were looking at EV adoption in Europe and how for that longer continental driver in
Europe with that long holiday once a year range was still the number one factor and EV2 is ticking
that box for them. They're saying, oh, it's got range, but it also has charging, faster charging,
good DC. And also the first time at this level in AC22 option, when you look at the urban centers
around Europe, there's a lot of AC22 chargers out there. So again, the specification for this
shape and size of a car is leading the field. I think that's exactly what we try to do to really
further democratize electric mobility into, as you said in the beginning, an important and growing
segment, BSUV. But again, without making any compromise, you know, we try to get people
that are driving ICE vehicles, be it ice or hybrid or even plug in hybrid into the next
phase, which is the full EV, but without giving up on anything that they're used to today,
and actually even adding more convenience. Yeah, think about a little thing might seem little
eye pedal or one pedal drive. One of my favorite things, but also EV2 has it. And I have to say
from personal experience, it's fantastic. Once you're used to it, you don't want anything else.
Your colleague Alex doesn't like it, if I remember correctly, but listen, everybody has
a choice. You don't have a turn it on or turn it off. I love the fact that you're also giving
the options of four and five seater. And so again, if somebody wants to prioritize the sliding rear
bench at the four seater, they can have extra luggage capacity if that's what they need as well.
So it's not one size, one shape, you have to take what you're given, you can really
custom the EV2 to what you need. And again, this gives a perfect combination, I would say,
if you think about the interior versatility that gives you different levels of roominess and comfort
combined again with these two different batteries. I think any customer that wants to go into
first time EV or actually is moving from hybrid into EV or from the first to the second EV,
there's really everything you need. We haven't seen Irish prices yet, so I'm pushing Kia Ireland
to give me those, but German prices released yesterday of just underneath 27,000 euros.
Very attainable, as you said, democratizing electric vehicles. That green premium isn't
there anymore. The other thing is the design and the manufacturing is in Europe and it's for Europe.
Yeah, I think this is when we started out our plan as many years ago, how to electrify mobility
across the globe. We also saw that Europe is the leading region, I would say. So then you also get
to a point that you need to say, okay, certain models like EV2 are really specific for Europe.
And this is why it's actually developed, designed, engineered and produced in Europe. So also
completely matching European customer requirements.
Numbers wise, we're starting to fill up the EV numbers. Now, EV2 is your smallest,
an EV day last year in Spain. We also chatted about potentially EV1 at some stage, but
we can't talk about that today, but you wouldn't have to be a genius. But EV2,
I'm not sure how much smaller you'd want to go in an electric vehicle for an urban environment.
So I'm not going to mention anything about future product, like you say,
because we're talking EV2 today. But considering the fact that you have this
dedicated EV platform, you'll see that actually EV2, as I mentioned, is giving the roominess
of a segment above. So I think there's probably always room, but it depends on market development,
et cetera, et cetera. For now, we think EV2 will do the job.
And with EV2, you're getting features like we talked about from EV9 and larger models, but
what I'm really impressed with is vehicle to load, bi-directional, easy plug and charge,
a lot of features, again, that you would expect in a more premium, larger vehicle,
but you're packaging it into this smarter form factor. You're getting a team with this podcast,
I think at the moment. I think this is a way that we try to, let's say, support the transition
into EV, as I said, so that people, even when they're looking at it in a B SUV, in a compact SUV,
that they can still benefit from all the technology and all the features that EVs have to offer.
Coming out from EV2 and looking at a wider Kia landscape portfolio,
as we talked about, the numbers are filling up already. There's a huge choice now in passenger
cars. And when we chatted last, commercial vehicles as well. So the Kia and Inevo specifically
be EV focused. So we're very much interested in how big this Kia lineup is getting. It's phenomenal.
And I think we're now actually with EV2 adding, let's say, the smallest one in the EV family.
And at the same time, I think, as Europe transitions at very different paces country by
country to EV. Yes, we are developing rapidly EV lineup, but at the same time, we also keep
monitoring, focusing on ICE based, albeit mainly electrified product lineup, to facilitate the
transition in every country at whatever speed they are running. Yeah, and you're doing it a very
good way in the sense of its pure combustion, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, full electric. So as you
say, depending on the country, depending on the shape size of model of car that our vehicle,
a person wants, Kia can satisfy that need. Correct. And I think as long as we are in this
transition, this is how we can, on the one hand, support very much those markets that are very
rapid and very far advanced in moving to full EV. And at the same time, through the electrified,
like hybrids, support countries where it's maybe going at a little bit of a slower pace
to take a little bit more time.
Finishing up the PB5 cargo and passenger when we spoke last, that was the launch that we were
out in Seches in Spain. I'm starting to see them on the road now. How is that rollout going
around Europe for yourselves? Across Europe, very positive development, very much on track or even
better than expectations, both for passenger and cargo. As we speak, we're still ramping up the
third variant, which is the chassis cab that offers many conversion possibilities as well.
But I would say generally speaking, we are well on track with PB5.
Short before we let you go, last question. What are you most excited about in 2026?
Well, I think actually what we're discussing here today, the introduction of EV2. By having said
that, still also coming back to PB5, apart from the passenger car EV2. For PB5, we will still be
launching a lot of derivatives during the year. So we also see how we will expand into the ELCV
business successfully. Different shapes, different sizes. Short, thank you so much for your time.
Thank you, Derek.
Along the way, we'll do character deep dives, magic explainers, and Steven will even try to
guess what's next. Spoiler alert, he'll be wrong.
And I put years into this place. And maybe the most common one, isn't everyone miserable at work?
But there's a difference between reasons for staying and excuses for not leaving.

Thanks to Karl from Kia Ireland and Roman who joined us on the trip for facilitating that
interview and too short for his time as always. I think it's the third time we've had him on the
podcast, always getting up there as a most frequent interviewer. Next up, we have confirmation
that the Audi A2 e-tron is on the way as the brand's entry-level model, the all-electric Audi
e-tron range will soon branch out into the compact class with the new A2 e-tron, which has just
been officially teased for the first time. The newcomer is set to be a world premiere.
Now, folks, I had this confirmation back in the January the first one we did our video of what's
coming in 2026, so head of the pack again, which is good to see. The newcomer is set for the world
premiere in autumn and auto express prize have caught testing multiple times already, but Audi
has just confirmed the return of the A2 name during its annual media conference. The A2 e-tron
will be pitched as Audi's entry-level EV and acting as an indirect replacement for the A1 and Q2,
as well as an all-electric alternative to the similarly sized combustion engine A3 hatchback.
Among its rivals will be the likes of the Mini-Aceman, the Volvo EX30, and the Mercedes EQA.
With a significant price gap on Audi's next electric largest car, the Q4 e-tron.
The A2 e-tron is likely to start around about that 30,000 euro mark. The Audi CEO announced
that the A2 e-tron and explained why Audi has lowered the entry point to its e-tron range,
saying our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our
promise to deliver exactly that an efficient, compact, and confident we're making entry into
electric Audi's world more easier and more relevant than ever. So what does it look like?
It's all in the name. It's delivered not to the original A2, which pioneered efficiency
and urban mobility about 25 years ago. We can see clearly the original A2 has influenced the A2
e-tron's design, but we can also see that it's based on the Volkswagen ID3 Cupra born, that kind
of shape on that platform. So it'll be hopefully on the MEB plus platform, rather than the MEB
platform that the current ID3 model, Cooper born, et cetera, et cetera, are currently on.
So looking forward to seeing when we're going to get more information on the Audi A2 e-tron
coming to our shores. So Skoda Enyakupe last week was my drive, beautiful gray
in the RS trim, and landed back late Friday night, struck off for Mayo, and did a coast-to-coast
on the way down, obviously, and then the way back up, it was down as round the Roscommon,
it was 0.5 degrees going down, and then turned around and came back up then on the Sunday,
obviously a lot warmer during the day and efficiencies wise. I was very impressed with it.
Lovely car, obviously on the expensive side, because it is the performance probably the most
expensive electric Skoda that you can get. Yes, I think it is. And so price of the car that I was
driving, 66,000 euros, all wheel drive. Yeah, there'll be a review up on the channel, the YouTube
channel, and there'll also be a coast-to-coast over the next coming days and weeks. So stay
tuned from that bush, happy to say that I did make the coast-to-coast with change both ways,
even with that minus temperatures going down, and then on the way back up, it was well able for
it, and it was surprisingly efficient on the way back up actually, but more information on that
will be coming in the coming days and weeks. Next up we have Paul Star and receiving the
AutoBest Smart Best 2026 Award for Google Maps Live Lane Guidance Integration in the
Paul Star 4. Paul Star's strategy to continuously upgrade its cars with new software driven features
has become available, has become available, has been once again been internationally recognized
this time by the independent AutoBest European Jury composed from Motoring Journalists from 32
countries, which was awarded Paul Star's Smart Best 2026 for its integration of Google Maps Live
Lane Guidance into the US and Sweden directly into the driver display of the Paul Star 4,
so yet to roll out across the European, other European countries. The reason that they selected
it as an award-winning, the jury said the 2026 Award goes to Paul Star for the integration of
the Live Map Lane Guidance directly to the driver display as an innovation, as a significant step
forward in the intelligent onboard navigation and driver assistant technology. Paul Star CEO,
who was present at the awards ceremony in Vienna a couple of days ago, were delighted to win the
award, well deserved recognition of the work from our dedicated R&D specialists and testaments.
So what is it? The Google Maps Live Lane Guidance brings a new navigation experience directly to
the 10.2 driver and driver display on the Paul Star 4. The feature detects which lane the car
should be using by Google's advanced AI in the vehicle and analyzes elements on the road,
like lane markings and road signs captured by one of the forward-facing cameras in the Paul Star 4.
Combined with Google Maps' industry-leading navigation capabilities, the system delivers
visual and audio reminders to help the driver to change lane and times. So you can remember in
the original sat-navs, it'll kind of show you if there was a two lane, three lane, four lane,
what lanes it thinks you should be in, but it didn't really know. It was giving you that guidance
until you went past the junction and then a recalibration where this is letting you know.
It knows you're in the correct lane, so great to see that from Paul Star, always leading the way
on a deep integration with Google and specifically that Paul Star 4. So congratulations to the team
over at Paul Star. Next up, I saw an interesting story about ZapMap, which is an app predominantly
in the United Kingdom. It has a bit of Irish data in it, but not the full. What it's doing is
it has now a live price display. So press release reads, at ZapMap, we're always looking for ways to
help EV drivers find and pay for charging with confidence. And as the charging landscape evolves,
having clear, up-to-date information is key with planning your journey in peace of mind.
That's why in March, they've introduced a significant update to their map, bringing
live pricing data directly into map view. So you can see the charging costs at a glance.
I click the link in the description of this podcast. To save you from
trapping through multiple pins to compare rates, you can see the current price per kilowatt display
directly on the map markers as you browse around the map. This is going to happen in Ireland as well,
probably with Zevi, probably with European regulations and the sense of having a central
app showing all prices. And you can filter them. And so this is really going to help
the competitive landscape and have making sure that the most best value price per kilowatt
or power per kilowatt in kilowatt, you can filter it all. So they're doing a great job over there
in ZapMap. You can combine the price filter, which allows you to set the maximum price per
kilowatt and only showed you chargers within your budget. This quickly helps you identify
the chargers that align with your preference for each journey. And so fair play to them for
updating their app with that and having that capability with that. Last, but by no means
least on the new section, we were at the Suzuki Vitara launch yesterday. Going to come in four
different versions. It's going to come in the two trims, motion and ultra. And it's going to come
in two battery sizes, a 49 kilowatt hour and a 61 kilowatt hour. And then the top creme de la creme
Vitara ultra all grip, which is the Suzuki language for four wheel drive. E specifically,
because it's the electric version. So the all grippy that comes in the big battery as well.
Prices starting at $32,995 going all the way up to $42,995. So video up on over on the channel.
And we got a couple of, we got an hour to drive the regular two wheel drive version front wheel
in the standard or the larger battery 61 kilowatt hour based while Suzuki developed it,
but it is in collaboration with Toyota, but it is very much a Suzuki product that Toyota in other
markets are calling the urban cruiser. There's some good and there's some bad butters. Sorry,
areas for improvement. The boot because of the B segment SUV, they prioritized rear space rather
than boot space. So the boot is bit on the smaller side. Infotainment wouldn't be great.
Infotainment system dash layout is a small bit dated, a bit of glass black going on,
large gaps between buttons and vents and all the rest of it, both the positives. It's a decent
space, good efficiency from the time I had with it. And the fact that you do have the availability
of a four wheel drive all grip E as Suzuki call it. And to in fairness to Suzuki Ireland, they
brought us around the some wooded trails and it was more than soft-roading. It was proper
off-roading. There's cars that I wouldn't definitely have brought down these ruts and
inclines and declines and all the rest of it. There's a trail mode that engages the rear electric
motor and I've got footage of that up on the channel. So you can see, go over and have a
look at it yourself. So yeah, very good and it has Hill descent as well. Very capable. It's just
how many people actually want an all wheel drive. They broke down what they feel,
the small battery probably around 8%. The motion trim in the bigger battery around 40%.
The ultra trim, which is their top trim. So that's sunroof heated seat here to steering wheel,
wireless charging pad, tan leather, interior 40% or 35% and then they reckon about 15% to 18%.
And they can see the sales numbers from the UK. So if you're living in a hilly environment,
if you do a bit of off-roading or soft-roading, but it's more to if you needed the traction for
poor weather conditions, there potentially is an audience for that. The only other one that
they're aware of is the Volvo EX30 in that all wheel drive format. So if you're interested
in finding out more about the Suzuki Eva Terra, make sure you head over to the YouTube channel
and have a look at that. Last but by the moment, at least we were lining up tickets should be
available and this week for registrations for the Kildare driving experience in partnership
with Bank of Ireland, happening in the car race course at 10 to 5 on Sunday, April 26th. So save
the date and as I mentioned, the registrations will be opening up towards the end of this week
and you can start booking your test drives as well. So we'll have confirmation of all the
different brands and models that will be on show for that show. So if you're in the area or you
know somebody, friend or family, make sure you're popping over and let them know that's happening.
That is all from this week's podcast folks. Hopefully you've enjoyed it. If you have,
make sure you leave a rating, leave a comment, love the engagement and I look forward to chatting
to you next week where we will be driving the Citroen EC5 Aircross as well as being able to
talk about Kia EV2 driving impressions and driving the Hyundai Ioniq 6N around the racetrack in
Barcelona. So that's to come next week as well as I'm currently coming to you live from Italy
where we are driving something that I can talk about for a couple of weeks. So leave you on
that cliffhanger teaser. Thanks very much for listening and we'll chat to you next week.
