Pro Mod
Pro Mod is a drag racing class for heavily modified cars built to go extremely fast. It’s usually one of the most exciting categories to watch.
Term
burnout
A burnout is when the driver intentionally spins the tires while the car is still. In drag racing, it’s done for grip, but the rules are strict—some mistakes can get you disqualified.

Christmas tree
The Christmas tree is the set of lights at the start of a drag race. It tells drivers exactly when to launch, and messing with it can get you penalized.

DQ stands for disqualification. It means the driver is kicked out of that round because they broke the rules.

If a steering wheel comes off during a burnout or run, it indicates a serious steering/column connection failure. That’s dangerous because the driver may lose precise control and could still be moving at speed while trying to avoid obstacles.

This is Bristol Motor Speedway, a well-known drag-racing track. The surface of the track (the pavement/traction) changes how well tires grip, which can change how fast and how consistent the racing is.

Top Fuel is one of the main drag-racing categories. The cars are purpose-built and run on nitromethane, and they’re famous for very fast acceleration over a short distance.

Funny Car is another major drag-racing class. The cars look more like a “car body” but they’re still purpose-built for drag racing and rely heavily on traction from the track.

Pro Stock is a drag-racing category for cars that are based on production models but heavily modified. The goal is consistency and repeatable launches, so track conditions matter a lot.

E1 is a label for a specific part of the race schedule (a particular session/round). The hosts are saying rain stopped the event in the middle of that session, then they restarted later.

E2 is another labeled part of the race schedule, coming after E1. After rain, they had to restart with a different order of sessions for the different classes.

Friction is the “drag” created when engine parts rub against each other. More rubbing means more heat and wear, and the engine can’t make as much power.

Piston rings are small metal parts on the piston that help seal the engine so power can be made efficiently. If they’re not moving smoothly against the cylinder wall, they create extra friction and heat, which can wear the engine faster.

Cylinder walls are the inside surfaces of the engine where the piston travels. If the piston rings don’t glide smoothly on these surfaces, the engine can lose efficiency and wear out sooner.

So yeah, that was I think that's impressive.
That was nuts.
So yeah, so we had.

Maryland, Epping and Bristol, since I completely
brain faded on Sunday night of Bristol of where I was and where we've been.
Yes, we were at dinner and our waiter asked us
where we were from and what we were doing.
And we were we all me, you and Anastasia were like,
where in the world are we again?
Where are we? What are we doing here?
Um, but yeah, Bristol was an amazing, amazing event.
And it was just wild.

And we got Kayla tuning in.
So yeah, so.
You know, we've got all kinds of things going on.
But yeah, Bristol, how going from Epping to Bristol.
Is.
Shocking.
I mean, yes, I'm glad it's in that order, though.
Because yeah, Bristol was so nice.
Because you've never been to Bristol.
I never been to Bristol.
I never been to Epping either.
Those were two back to back new tracks for me.
And I knew Bristol, like it photographs well, it shows well on TV.
But it is a thousand times better in person.
Like even more like I tell everyone drag racing is better experienced in person.
But just that specific track, I just kept looking around being like,
my life is so cool.
Right.
And it is so pretty here.
Yeah, it really was.
I mean, just green everywhere.
So we flew into Charlotte and then drove over from Charlotte,
which thankfully I'm glad we did.
Yeah, singles, singles in Bristol.
Yeah, the Tri-Cities Airport had sinkholes,
which through everybody's
travel plans kind of out the window, because then people tried flying
into Charlotte and there were no cars in Charlotte.
Unless you have a reserved, which thankfully we did.
Yes, we it's not a bad drive.
And now that they have time, I remember I think before those highways,
like going over the mountains and like through where Appalachian State is.
And it's just like that's a real back.
That's a real back in my day comment right there.
Real, real dicey, but also it was.
Coming back from Bristol on Monday morning, you just realize how steep
the downhill of mountain is because they had all I don't know.
You were you were sleeping, but they have all the runoff
things for 18 wheelers, like if your brakes fail,
there's the side exit that basically goes up the side of the mountain
so you don't get up to a thousand miles per hour and crash, which is nuts.
So what was your favorite takeaway from Bristol on the facility side?
Plumbing is really important.
Yes. Yeah, they had that a water main break.
Was that Saturday? Yes. Yeah.
They got fixed. Yeah, they were on it.
I don't think it was I don't think we had lost bathroom access
for more than like an hour, hour and a half.
So no one had to use, at least I didn't have to use a port-a-potty, but
and then the snack game was so strong.
Yeah, was so strong.
So consistent. The fridge.
I don't think if there were if more than three people
took a drink out of that fridge, it was immediately restocked.
And restocked from the back, which that's the sign of a good stalker.
Yes, as all the cold cans were up front.
But how funny was that Jason Galvin announcement about the water main break
where he was like basically saying, hey, we just found out that there's been
a water main break, so that means there's no water, particularly in the bathroom.
So be aware that there's no water in the bathrooms.
Yes, you have, you know, they had a bucket down on the starting line for the water box.
Yes, it was to real.
Hey, man, don't go into the bathroom until we tell you to go in the bathroom.
Use the Port-a-Lets without saying. Exactly.
It was Galvin gold over the PA.
Also, Galvin issued jumping ahead to the end of the race.
One of the funniest lines that I thought was after Hagan won.
And he said that, you know, for sure, the J.H.G. guys and that whole team,
their check your liver light will be on very shortly, which I thought that was so good.
A great Galvin line.
He had, he and Courtney and Joe had a great weekend on the on the microphone.
I thought I thought the music was a lot better.
Agreed.
Hopefully that translated to NHA.TV.
But since we're watching it live, we don't really know.
So I'm not, I'm not fishing for NHA.TV comments, but it was just the whole presentation.
You know, the way the setup was, I thought was really, really awesome.
And like I said, the Bristol track is just really I like having everything on one side.
Yes.
Easy to get to all the top fuel teams, funny car, pro stock, pro stock, motorcycle are all available.
And it was so overall, I thought just a really kind of a fun, fun weekend.
Yes.
And I don't mean to point out the plumbing thing, things happen at a race.
Literally shit happens.
And I think the track handled it as well as they possibly could.
Oh yeah.
Is the biggest takeaway.
You hate when things like that happen, but they handled it once again.
I feel like as quickly and communicated it as well as they possibly could have.
I think the carryover to the bathroom situation is just the fact that we had to run the
Epping finals on Friday.
So that was just like a residual carryover from Epping being not nearly as nice as Bristol
and they just thought they'd bring a little bit of Epping flavor.
So exactly, which I that was like a perfect setup for the race.
I thought, yes, one qualifying session on Friday and then right into the final round.
And I'll be honest, the people that won were not the people I expected to win.
Leah, Leah beating Sean Langdon and then Beckman beating Jordan Vandegraaff.
I picked that totally wrong.
Yeah, not mad about either of those outcomes.
Really, really happy for Leah to get her first win back on tour.
The photos and videos and all from the winner's circle and the
Yeah, the winner's circle, especially like with Dom and just the rest of the team were really, really cute.
You should definitely check out TSR Nitro's socials if you have not already.
And I felt like for a carryover race, they mimicked that winner's circle as well as they possibly could with the buoy from the Epping race.
Yeah, if you just saw the pictures, you wouldn't know you were in Bristol.
Exactly.
I thought it was also just showing how on point Tony start racing is that Leah ran the Dodge livery on Friday.
Yes.
And then switch to rush trucking for the rest of the weekend because, you know, it was for Epping and that was the race.
So all the winner's circle pictures look totally correct.
And then switched over to rush trucking for the rest of the Bristol weekend, which again, that just shows the greatness of Kelly Antonelli being on top of keeping all that sponsor stuff.
Of course, squared away.
And then in the funny car final, I mean, it was all JFR all the time.
It was great to see, you know, Jack win.
Yes.
Super excited.
And, you know, I just think that shows the strength of those two teams.
Oh, for sure.
For sure.
You know, it was a wild final.
Or I guess that one was I'm confusing the mission to fast to tasty final work Chad green or who crosses centerline in a final was that that was mission to fast to tasty on Saturday, but that was Beckman and Vandergrip.
Okay, good.
So I'm not totally losing my mind.
Yeah, there was so much racing this weekend.
It is hard to keep it straight straight.
Yeah.
So Friday night we had that, you know, you had, you know, pro stock pro stock motorcycle.
And then we roll right into Saturday with the mission to fast to tasty.
And an epic autograph session at the end of the day.
Yes, which that's one of the things Bristol does, which I think is really cool is the end of the day autograph session where they get almost all the drivers to come.
One big tent and sign all the stuff.
Yeah, and the layout of it.
It just feels like a very like casual kind of hangout.
Yeah, like a more formal autograph situation.
It very much had a come and go feel because they started before pro stock and pros like motorcycle finish up.
So the crowd still there and then just kind of guys are cycling through and I think people were going through the line multiple times, which I thought was pretty funny.
Because they would like, yeah, I miss Oh now, Greg Anderson's there and Richard Gadson's there.
I'm going to, I'm going to cycle back through the line.
So exactly.
It had a real real funny vibe to it.
So also, on Friday mission accomplished.
I got one of these.
There's a glare but in case anyone can't tell that is.
Yeah, I just want everyone to know that that was Elan's like number one priority.
We arrived to the track and he just booked it to the nitrile mall, which it's a good thing he did because they said they're only like five or six left.
So if you'd waited any longer, you probably would have been SOL right which I when I saw the social media posts I was like I questioned my Ron caps fandom.
If I was just bobblehead been out in the in the universe and I don't have one of my possessions so I bought it.
And then Ron and Maddie Gordon were doing a Carlisle tools autograph session and I kind of had a golf cart this weekend.
And I kind of pulled up off to the side and I pulled pulled the bobblehead out of my summit bag and caps just started cracking up which is so funny he was like what are you doing.
And I was like hey man I can't.
I can't not have a Ron caps bobblehead if there's a Ron caps bobblehead out there.
So as a little Father's Day present to myself.
So yeah, but I thought that you know the main end of the day Saturday night autograph session is really good because it just kind of grew and there were tons of fans there.
And you know it's set up really nicely to go into race day.
Yes.
I feel like that the three race role we were on for the Eastern swing really like again your race day in Maryland was a great day.
Your race day in epping was good but you know obviously got cut short.
Yes.
The race day in Bristol had a little bit of everything.
Yes it did.
Yes it did.
Just you know the guys that won the racing was really good.
It just boggled my mind you know and then even like real ramp up.
Flexjet factory stock showdown was great.
Yes.
Yes.
Bruchy has three in a row which only one of the persons everyone three factory stocks showdown races in a row.
And that's Leah Pruitt when she won the last three of the season to win her world championship in 2018.
But you know Raymond Nash gets his first number on qualifier.
Yes.
Makes it to a final.
Makes it to his final makes it to a final round and gets more pub for sweet sweet Miles Nash who that they have they have a tremendous.
Just stole the show.
Post in their number one qualifier picture with the number one qualifier hat on which is great.
But yeah I would not I wasn't going to be upset however that final.
Yes.
But like Raymond Nash all weekend was pulling tremendous factory stock wheel stands off the starting line.
Yes.
And in the final he great wheel stand and I think probably what happened is he came down and his steering wheel is a little not they have markers on their steering wheel to know that to keep the wheel straight.
And I think he's got just a little off and when he landed his car shot to the right and sadly across the center line and out of Gucci was on a clean pass but three in a row for Jonathan out of Gucci.
Yes.
Wife just had a baby and the baby was supposed to come during Bristol weekend so he was thinking he wasn't able to come to the race.
But he thinks that the basically the baby heard them talking about racing in the weekend and just decided to come out early so they could go racing.
Exactly.
That's the story you stick to it.
And now we get another cute winter circle photo of his two older kids.
Yeah holding up a number three for three in a row with their little matching medals.
Yeah which again baller move by Jonathan out of Gucci apparently at the last race, which was two in a row he had is the medal they gave him.
And with multiple kids there was some controversy about why don't I get a medal who gets a medal first on stuff so this race.
They brought the medal from the last race so when he won again.
Everybody had a medal on in the photo which was just a genius parent move.
Everyone gets a pony.
Everyone gets a pony.
So yeah so Allagruci wins three in a row the flex jet bounty going into Norwalk this weekend is now $3,000.
If somebody can beat him.
You know but Mark Palak's car started running good.
Really good.
Really great to see him coming back.
Yeah and this is a big race for him coming up in Ohio he's got some sponsors so.
His hometown race.
So it'll be big so flex jet will be awesome.
They're doing a huge hospitality as part of the race but then in pro mod pro mod stole the show.
It always does the personalities are just Stevie fast while Barnett.
You know all those kept the casting characters.

In the second round quarter finals may him ensued on a burnout for Mike Collins.
Yes.
Before this past Sunday did you think what would happen if you cross a centerline on a burnout immediate disqualification.
Okay.
What do you think would happen if you hit something on your burnout, ie the Christmas tree or the starting line camera.
Once again a DQ.
Yes, evidently not true to solid answers but not true because Mike Collins did both those things.
His steering wheel came off on his burnout and then he hit the brakes and locked him up and basically skidded narrowly missing the Christmas tree and a camera guy.
Yes, that guy quick on his feet.
Yeah he's he's saying bolt type reflexes.
Yes.
He gets out of the way and we're all like what just happened and his car still running and they're like well you know we can just push him back and the other guy who was racing losing his mind.
Yes.
Like he's expecting the starter to come over and give him the hey you got a single and they're like no we're gonna let this guy kind of get situated and they just look at the front of his car and it's kind of damaged.
Yes.
But then they're like no.
Go ahead we'll just keep racing.
And then Collins double bulbs them.
Yes, breaks are slipping.
He still gets treed, but the other guy smokes the time gets gets loose and Collins wins that round and then goes on to win the race and then goes on to win the race.
It was so crazy because also the thing that was so funny is when he came back for the semifinals, they had blue racer tape.
Yes, covering where the carbon fiber got or the fiberglass got cracked on the front of his car and it matched perfectly like if you were just looking at it from a distance you wouldn't even know there was like an 18 inch crack on the side of his car.
Yeah and the state showed me the photos close up and I was like what are we doing.
Yeah, I have, I have never seen Kelly Wade more upset than when they let him run because she's like this can't be safe.
Right.
The concern of just all all the things we're all in the press room and we're like, and I think I knew that you could cross a centerline on a burnout and not because Billy Meyer had done some things back in the day with this funny car.
When he and force has when the car won't go in reverse they've kind of flipped it around.
But yeah, it was just a wild pro mod session and like you can see a Joe Costello which tune into Joe Costello's WFO radio show from yesterday because he talked to a bunch of winners.
But Joe posted that he was in the booth behind Jason and Courtney during that whole thing and behind the scenes video is so great because Jason Galvin is just doing an amazing job on the announcing but then like Courtney, like, doubling over just like
hands in the air like what is going all the the physicality of what was going on.
Yes, was spectacular. Oh, and it's Jason Collins not my call on sorry about that.
Yeah.
So I don't know who my Collins is apologies to Jason. Thank you. Thank you for the correction guys.
Keep honest. Yeah. So also shout out Troy Hall actually was the first one to point that out so.
Yeah, so that was like the preamble to Mission Foods Too Fast Too Tasty which we got a rainstorm right after like during QE one.

Yeah, a torrential downpour.

I thought.
I thought we were gonna rain for hours.
I winds blew the bike fencing just all the things lightning in the area and then it stopped and I thought for sure it would be three or four hours before we got back.
But that Tennessee sun came out with a vengeance.

And we were back racing within two hours.
Yes.
It was impressive.
It was impressive and the safety safari again kudos brand new track surface at Bristol.
Yes.
And people are raving about it. They think that it's going to be the smoothest track surface on tour.
It's totally level.
You know it was a little green obviously.
But the guys acclimate themselves to it pretty quickly.
And the racing on Sunday was tremendous.

And so it dried so fast that I think it surprised some people.
Oh, it surprised us.
So then he had this weird run order because normally it's top fuel funny car pro stock pro stock motorcycle.
Well they only got halfway through motorcycle.
Barely halfway through motorcycle E1.
Yes.
Rain.
So then they come back when they go right to top fuel E2.
Yes.
And then funny car E2.
And then they finished pro stock motorcycle.
And then do pro stock.
I think they did.
I think that's what they did to kind of give the motorcycle guys a little bit more time to catch up to catch up.
And then they kind of you know then we burn a sportsman guys and flex shed and promo and then we kind of and they basically kind of got back on schedule.
Yes.
As close to it as possible.
As close to as possible and we got a couple of minor but we're still racing the weather.
So you know they moved it up from a noon start to a 10 o'clock start and we're racing the weather.
And we got everything in.
I think there was a little rain on some people's winner circles.
Yes, a little bit.
You had a all Vanson Heinz pro stock motorcycle final.
Which let's not forget the semifinals.
Shout out Steve Johnson.
Chris Bostic.

Yeah, that was a banner day for Chris Bostic and.
Yeah.
Not too many people had them and Drag Race Brack Mananzas.
There were good bracket busters there.
Yeah.
But yeah, all Vanson Heinz final.
So, you know, I'm sure there were people rooting for Richard because he was the defending event winner.
And then the gauge fans were looking out for him to get his 30th career win.
Which is what has been racing for 14 minutes and he's got 30 national event wins.

The guy's the guy's going to need to build a barn to minimum just for his wallies.

So, and it was a great, I thought it was a great final, you know, just really good.
You know, Angie Smith's bike.
Oh, the return of Joey Gladstone on the red rocket.

But Chris Bostic is not planning on racing Norwalk.
He said his next race is going to, he told me I chatted with him on Sunday that he's planning for his next race to be indie.
So, I believe because of ETs that Joey Gladstone will get to take Chris's spot in Mission 2 Fast 2 Tasty and Norwalk.
We'll confirm that with competition by next show.

But yeah, super excited to see Joey back on a bike.
I chatted with him a little bit on Saturday.
He said he was knocking the cobwebs off a little bit, but it felt really good to be back on a bike, he said.
So, and he's just so likable.

Just, I mean, with long hair, without long hair, just, and I asked him, I was like, so he knew he was still working on the KB Titan Pro Stock cars.
And they adjusted his duties a little bit, but then he also had to do the motorcycle stuff.
So, I asked him on Friday, hey, did they at least kind of help you guys out with kind of parking and can use like hell, though?
Like he could not have been further apart from where the mess, but he was just constantly back and forth the whole weekend.
So, but speaking of KB Titan Racing, another banner weekend for their motor program.
Now, Greg Anderson celebrating his one year anniversary of winning a thousand round wins was really trying to go back to back.
Yes.
You know, and ran into the Matt Hartford pain train.
Yes.
Hartford was on it on Sunday.
Killer reaction times.
Great driving, great power.
And he gets the win over Greg in the final.
So, win number three for him, which previously like three seasons.
So, and we're, you know, not even halfway.
So who knows, he's a real championship contender at this point.
Yeah, especially, especially I feel like when the points get bunched up again for the countdown.
Right.
He has a little bit of ground to make up as it is right now, but that'll go away very quickly.
Going back to derail.
Is it Matt coming back from Norwalk?
I'm pretty sure I read in the nha.com article that he is for sure out for Bristol and Norwalk and potentially even the call out for Sonoma that's undecided as of this moment.
So Joey for another race.
No, I don't think there's any way Amber's going to hang it up at the end of the season.
No way.
No, she's too vital to the team.
I mean, they, they've got a whole dynamic over there.
Like, yeah, they have processes.

So, yeah, so I was before that final round, I'm a huge supporter of Greg Anderson.
So obviously it was part of the thousand round wind club, you know, all those things, but then also I love me some Matt Hartford and when Matt Hartford wins races for whatever reason, he's just such a cool dude.
He brings me a beer in the press room.
So he won the mission too fast to tasty and brought me a beer in the press room and then he wins the race and brought me beer in the press room.
So it's a double beer, double beer weekend for me.
Which is great.
So, but yeah, so pro stock, I mean that, that, that battle now has heated up to the point where it's Greg Dallas, Matt Hartford, and I still think Aaron Stanfield, Greg Stanfield, all those, you know, all those people, it's going to be really exciting.
Down the stairs, down the stretch for pro stock and then you roll into funny car and top fuel and funny car was mayhem.

We, I, I, I love a Matt Hagan win.
And I was really happy that he got a win, particularly with his big sponsor, JHG there.
It's always good when you can get a big win in front of your sponsor.
I think a lot of people in the stands were probably rooting for Daniel Wilkerson.
He's, I feel like the people's choice at like, if you don't want to see Daniel Wilkerson get a win, do you even have a heart.
Right. Do you even care about puppies and positivity and happiness.
Exactly. You're basically Voldemort. You're Voldemort from the Harry Potter stories.
If you don't want Daniel Wilkerson to get a win.
After he won the second round, because like him going to the semis, people were pumped.
Yeah. And that car was running great. It ran great all day.
It was running so good. I was in the press room and me and Sarah and Jessica were like, all right, we cannot wait to see this interview.
And then they go and interview Austin Prack instead, which love an Austin Prack interview.
But we're like, come on, give the people what they want.
We want Daniel Wilkerson interview, which luckily we got it after he won in the semis and it did not disappoint.
No, it was all over the place.
And you could just tell, like, it meant it means so much to him to be going rounds like this because, you know, they've gone through, like, sometimes it's been the car, sometimes it's been him and the times that it has been him.
He has a lot of guilt about that.
Yeah, he carries that with him.
I think he shows that more than any other driver when he messes up, he takes ownership and is like, I hate to do this to my guys.
I bust in your ass and I'm over here not doing my job.
Exactly. So when both things are cooperating, he's just having the time of his life.
And really, even for Wilk to get to the final, he had to go through Caps, who Caps was named the legend of Thunder Valley.
Huge.
So he was trying to further dominate. He's the winningest funny car driver in Thunder Valley history.

So, you know, it was just up arrows for, you know, as I said, up arrows for everybody going into that final and then Hagen gets the win.
He's got a cool Johnson horsepower garage kind of truck is his tow vehicle, which that was, you know, more specialty vehicles for tow vehicles.
Yeah, I didn't realize that's even an option.
Why are we not jazzing up the tow vehicle?
Right.
I mean, Buddy Hall rolled out a kick ass van and then earlier this year and then Johnson horsepower.
I mean, why are we not just rolling out a suite of Johnson horsepower garage cars?
Yeah, you know, I want, I want someone to tow their car with an ice cream truck.

Adjacent and Antron and Kyle Busch have had a real special relationship.
So he was able to talk about that.

But just seeing Antron, I think the sport is better when guys like Antron and, you know, our winning races.
Agreed.
Leah's winning races, you know, just spreading the wealth a little bit, but just that team has been grinding and to see them.
He never won at Bristol before.
The guys got a Hall of Fame resume, but there's just some races that you want to tick off the list.
And Bristol is definitely one of them, I think.
So he was great.
I still think the Coletas are the team.
They're the gold standard right now.

So, and then I also enjoy the little quiche action just to, you know, balance it all.
Their pecan bar game is also strong.
I started my day with the pecan bar a couple days, but it is not a place to go in if you're in a hurry.
It is family owned or owned by a couple of women and they, they work at their own pace.
No sense of urgency.

And they, they, we went in as three people, me, you, and we tried to order like, here's our order.

So I had to be back on Monday.
A, because I was also fortunate enough to be able to do some podcasts on Monday to talk about the 1000 round wind club.

But I flew yesterday morning to Yorba Linda, to Orange County to sit down with the one and only John force.
And he signed his 1000 cards in the shop in Yorba Linda.
So he has a three story shop in Yorba Linda.
So the third floor is covered in classic cars.
And we signed, he's got his 1000 round wind plaque and then the aspire suits on the wall.
And there's a pool table up there and all kinds of pictures.
But yeah, so John signed 1000 autographs that basically this is kind of what the prototype looks like.
So that was just a sample, but he, he did 1000 autographs in under two hours while he was talking to me about all kinds of stuff.
It was, it was peak John force and his signatures were all, I mean, he messed up a couple.
Also there's the two boxes.
So you see like the John force box on the left and the Greg Anderson box on the right.
Sometimes John signatures got big and they scooched over into Greg Anderson's area.
So we had to kind of monitor that a little bit.

Greg is going to sign his but spending a day with John and the shop, you know, I used to work for force for 15 seasons and just walking into that shop was just a little bit of nostalgia.
I don't know. It was just weird to be back in there.

But it was really cool to be back on the shop.
Talking to him about racing and we're talking about the Superman car and the Castro cars and signing autographs.
I watched him one time sign 2500 Lionel or action diecast cars one time.
And so 1000 was really but he light work.
But he was also very funny, cranky John force, which he was like as he was signing, he kept complaining, complaining that the stack of cars was not getting smaller, it was actually getting bigger.
And I was like, no, there's truly, there's only 1000 of them.
There's maybe 1000 and 20 because we had some extras made in the event he messed them up or Greg messes them up.
So it will only be 1000 available. But he was convinced that I was just sliding in more cards.
And I was like, no. And through three sharpies.
Yeah, but and they weren't new sharp. I mean, they were they were established sharpies that had a wider because I kind of like the flatten point.
But yeah, but spent basically all day with them.
And then Laurie came over and we were talking about the early days and Ashley was there.
And we're talking about the year for stuff. And it was just really cool to be there and it was funny, because I flew out there in the morning.
Yes.
And there was a guy, total stranger on the emergency row with me. Good news on the way out there had an empty seat between us, which was nice.
Very nice.
And then come back. So we landed at like 930 in the morning. And then my flight back was at like 430.
So I get back to John Wayne Airport, and I'm walking up to my gate and I see the same guy that I was on the road with and I, we both like make eye contact.
And we're like, oh, I guess we're both just day tripping it to Southern California.
And he was like, well, he actually had flown out to pick up his grandson and grandson was going to camp grandma and grandpa for the whole summer.
And then we got to talking and he was asking what I did and I told my, you know, had a PR company told about the 1000 round one club and then I'd spent the day with John force.
And he knew who force was. He actually worked for PepsiCo and had done some NASCAR stuff, but he was familiar with and he thought drag racing was really cool.
But it was very funny to just bump into a guy that basically had the same travel insane travel itinerary that I did. Yes.
And as I become cranky air traveler on the flight back, we did not have it. We had a full emergency row. And I'm a Husky hugger. I'm a big guy.
The guy in the middle seat was also a big guy, but he was not situationally aware that he was a big guy.
It was a bit of a problem. Not enough to make a video to put online, but I was just kind of like, dude, just you get the two arm rests. Okay. That's the rules.
But keep your space to those arm rests. Don't encroach over into my area. I'm controlling the visor.
And then the guy in the aisle gets control who gets in and out of the aisle. But it was a whole, whole thing.
But luckily got back. Also my trap, my carry on was just 1000 round win cards. Yes, I already took my backpack and a carry on that just had 1000 round win cards.
So now they're all signed by force. I'm kind of double checking them and verifying that they're all squared away. And we'll get Greg to sign them next week.
And then they'll be ready to get start to get shipped out after Norwalk. So.

And there's just race cars everywhere and wallies everywhere, memorabilia everywhere. And then it was just really cool to see John kind of in his natural habitat in that office.
So that was cool. And like I said, we're heading to, you know, got an off weekend for Father's Day weekend.
Yes.
And so we've got, you know, I pretty much let Father's Day weekend come to me. We're going to go see my father-in-law. We're going to go actually Adam, Abbie's husband, their family's coming into town.
So we'll do some combo events. But yeah, so it's just going to be kind of a nice relaxing weekend before we head to Norwalk.

So switching gears a little bit.
I know we don't talk a lot about this, but in case y'all didn't know, Alan is in fact my dad.
If that's not obvious, or if you're just now tuning in for the first time, I am very lucky to get to work with him on this awesome and HRA tour.
And we've had some really cool like up and coming or like new dads, I guess on the show. Justin Ashley is going to be a new dad soon.
Beer guy Patrick Carter recently became a dad and he's been a guest before and they've all asked like.
You know, when Jason was a host, like, give us some advice, like what's what's how we had all of it.
We have all the advice they have all the advice and I am not a dad, obviously, but a daughter of a really good dad.
I thought I'd take a little bit of opportunity.
Elon has no idea what I plan on saying.
Elon is a really good dad, and not just because he's my boss.
But when I have a younger brother, so there's two of us, he spent most of our childhood, you know, doing the drag racing thing, being on the road, coming home.
But I really think when you're looking at all right, how can I make a lasting impact on my kids.
He was so present when he was home, and he showed so much interest in our lives and what we were into and tried to foster those interests.
So I from a very young age loved to write and still do.
But he like reached out to a buddy and I who had a online running magazine.
And so from like sixth grade through the beginning of high school, I wrote a monthly running column for this magazine and just things like that.
Oh, that part of the deal is we went to a running store and Abby did a review of how to get fitted for running shoes.
And then when they were done, they gave her the running shoes.
Yes, she got like the full sweat she got the full journalist deal like hey, write this great story and then also here's $500 worth of free stuff.
So exactly pretty good day for a little 12 year old Abby.
So yeah, I just things like that.
I mean, he took me to Taylor Swift concerts and was at everything that he possibly could, whether it be, you know, a UIL journalism competition, or you saw a dance photo, or a swimming or a band band concert.
But he just took every opportunity to set me up set me and my brother up for success.
But in a way that still encouraged us to be very independent.
He and my mom are a really great team.
They truly love respect each other support each other.
And that modeled for me and my brother like what a really nice healthy relationship looks like.
And so then I found my husband who treats me super well and that's because I got to see that relationship modeled for me.
And he just did really thoughtful things like when I graduated from high school.
He reached out to a ton of women he knew who he respected and who may be in the media field, maybe not, and had them write me letters of advice.
As I graduated high school and went off to college and so, and I still have these letters and so so many of them are people who I now get to work with.
There's letters here from Kelly Wade and to me began to mirror and Britney force.
And that was just something that he took the initiative to do when I graduated and just little things like that.
Like, I graduated high school now like eight years ago.
So he just took every opportunity he could to spend time with us model what a healthy relationship looks like but then also like model going after your dreams and be like being willing to pivot.
He took a break from tour one year when I was in high school and an attempt to spend time, more time with us essentially took a different job.
And quite frankly, I think was pretty miserable. It was an office job and outdoor cat and it was an indoor cat job we found out.
And, you know, he missed it, and he was like, I don't want to do this. And so he figured out a way to, you know, get back on tour. And I think, I mean, I've left a job out of unhappiness now because I thought it was like I saw that modeled for me that hey,
it's life is not you spend so much time working.
If you're not happy.
Let's figure out how we let's figure out how we can make a change.
So, I guess my I'm kind of rambling, but my point being, it's, I don't think there's any right way to be a dad, but I think being intentional, showing your kids that they care, you care about their interests that you respect them as people.
Because the one of the things that my parents do now, as it like my brother and I being adults, that I think really sets them apart in the Parenthood department is they really respect our boundaries, and the fact that we are adults now.
But we enjoy hanging out with our parents.
I talk to my mom, all the time. I obviously see Ellen, more than my husband, some weeks, particularly with this whole three in a row thing.
So, you know, he's just really cool.

Yeah, so happy Father's Day to all the dads in the audience, whether they be new or long term, long time dads.

Father's Day, my goodness.
So this is what Abby said. She sent me those pictures and said, Hey, I'm going to talk about you for Father's Day.
And then I get that tremendous thank you so much.
How are you? How are you still upright? How are you not?
I'm truly like hyper focused on the Ron Capps head behind me like I just focus on that.
I won't I won't just totally but I mean it's been and it's funny that Abby talks about that because
I did get off the road for a season to spend more time with the family. And that was always a big deal of force of, you know, he lost all this time with his kids, because he was racing.
And then he got it all back to some extent because then they came racing as adults.
And I feel that that's also kind of come full circle for me in that I was on the road so much when Abby and Nick were growing up.
But now I do get to spend all this great time with Abby and see her becoming a professional and like doing all this stuff and
we do mind meld on some things that we just talk about like, even during the races, like we'll see something.
And then at dinner when we're rehashing the day will be like, Hey, did you notice this?
And Abby will be like, Oh, yeah, I mean, Manini talked to you like that totally drove me bonkers. And so it's just been great to have her on the road.
She's an amazing young lady.
But you know, that was my deal is being a parent is, I think that, you know, particularly, you know, for fathers dad, you know, girl dads, boy dads, whatever is when you're with your kids be with your kids.
And then, you know, and show interest in what they're doing and encourage them to fail.
You know, stick your neck out there. There's no, there's no shame in failing.
What do they get if they spill paint in the garage?
I'm trying to, well, perfect example, they spilled paint in front of our house one time. Yes. And we had a huge paint blob for like the last eight years we were at the house and I was just kind of like,
Well, let's clean it up and not make it worse.
You know, they see, you know, as learning drivers, they maybe didn't quite stop in our driveway and we have a fence and they maybe hit the fence and bent the fence.
What are you going to do? Why are you trying to over spilled fences?
I've never claimed to be a perfect driver. Okay.
Right. You know, just be safe. Just don't do knucklehead stuff. And we were never like, to me, stuff is stuff.
If stuff gets broken, if stuff gets ruined, you know, you burn dinner.
Big deal. We'll just go on down the road. Now, you know, so you just don't want to make the same mistakes twice.
Yeah, but you will, but you will and you just learn from and there's, there's stupid taxes. I mean, I had one. I totally forgot to bring the thousand round wind sample that we needed to do some videos with.
I forgot it and Abby's like, Oh, did you and I was like, No, she's a guy student running. No, I'm not growing up. So I had to overnight it.
And that's just a stupid tax. I could have just put it in my backpack or I could have spent $100 overnight again.
Got plenty of those. So I think it's great. I'm popping on here. I finished a seminar. I just wanted to say I wanted to watch and then I just this is the fastest and quickest and easiest way that you promised to John force store.
Yes. So did I miss that?
Well, we recapped it, but I will tell you that yesterday force was in rare form. He signed 1000 autographs in he signed 1000 autographs in under two hours while he was talking to me and totally focused on, Hey, is this okay?
And that's that's the thing that's so great about forces. He really cares about his autographs. He was making sure how do you want me to sign these John force 16 X and there were some that he was like, I don't like that one.
And he would basically like, don't use that one. Don't He got his signature stayed on point. We talked about, you know, I asked him how many autographs he thinks he signed. He thinks he's easily signed over 2 million autographs.
That's an anxiety that, you know, just for shows and people on the road when you think about 50 years of racing coming up. That's you break you start breaking those numbers and I don't think that's an unrealistic number to say John forces signed over 2 million autographs.
So if you can get, you know, quintessential John force autograph, there's some value in that and it was just really cool to to spend the day with them and have him and the other thing that was great is Ashley force hood was helping us.
So you had two time us nationals winner, Ashley force hood, six time world champ or 16 time champion John force, and we're doing things and then we got a special Bob Van Grave junior sighting. He just showed up because he was in California and came by to talk to, I think he was just there to you know just chit chat and catch up on what Jordan was up to and all this stuff.
He was at the race this weekend. Yeah, he's in this and he said, normally he's just popped in for a day. But he said that now he was that was the first means there for like multiple days and he really kind of dug it and now his son is a phenomenal baseball player, Bob Van Grave juniors like legit 14 year old, very high skill set aspiration.
Who knows how far he could go. But Bob said that his sons are now totally interested in drag racing because of Jordan. And I was like, Why, why wouldn't they be your cousin?
They're winning funny car races. Why would you not want to be the kid that goes to junior higher high school? And I was like, Hey, did you see my cousin on TV?
You know, so he said that his sons previously really had no interest in drag racing. And now they're totally into it.
Lesson right there for everybody. Right lesson, whether you like it or not, the kids. Yes, not interested in you. They're interested in what their peers are doing. Correct. Yeah.
Find a young kid and put them in your car if you want to grow the racetrack. Right. I think a popular kid go, you know, so.
But yeah, so the day with force was fantastic.
You know, and it was just like I told Abby walking into that shop after I spent so much time there, like I knew exactly where to park and I knew the side entrance was unlocked and I just kind of walked in the side entrance then went up the elevator to the second floor, and everybody was there.
They had my thousand round win certificate on the wall that we made for John, which is really cool.
And then, you know, just kind of just the whole vibe there was just Darren was there the great Darren, who does all the GFR social media floating around.
But that was just a really cool vibe.

yesterday, I meant to, I've not watched the show from yesterday, but you had when you had Hagan on, did you ask him if he could start doing more jhg cars as to vehicles like let's get that into the rotation.
I didn't. was distracted by Hagan's fit on the air. He's going to the lake. He's got like this sleeveless, you know, deal going on and it's just like kind of distracting situation.
Like, what are people going to think about this interview? It's kind of, but he didn't care. Hagan was great.
Hagan gave a lot of credit to everyone else. He spent the whole time talking about everyone else and how great it was and how happy he is.
I don't know if it's going to be a positive interview because it's just too positive. You know, people, their primitive human brains reject extreme positivity.
Too much sugar.
Hagan was all sugar. He told me that the broadcast team is doing a great job, that we deserve a lot of credit. I thought, wow, that's a great way to start the interview if you want me to, you know, be really interested.
We gave you a shout out earlier for your tremendous behind the scenes video of Galvin and Courtney during the Collins pro mod insanity.
How about that? The metaglasses. And that's why I got those metaglasses, right? I'm just experimenting with them.
Okay, so those were metaglasses?

Yeah, because, you know, when you're doing this.
Yeah, it's distracting.
It's distracting and intrusive and you're, and I'm recording you.
But when you got the metaglasses on, you just go.
Okay, so that's how they work. Is there a button on the side that?
Yes, a button right on the top of them.
And then there's a light on the glasses that shows you.
And then there's a tiny light on the inside that lets you know it's recording and then a pulsing light that lets everybody else know that you're recording.
So you're not invading. But in this particular example, I was very busy. I was eating an ice cream cone.
And so I'm just like, I'm going to go walk in there and see what these two are up to. It's like, Oh, this is a really interesting situation.
And I'm just eating my ice cream cone, watching the madness.
And then when I went back, because look, I see the most amazing things out there.
I will challenge anyone to a POV contest. It's just there's no way to prove it until now.
On the starting line, watching these cars, it's incredible. You go interview people, they say cool stuff.
The behind the scenes is amazing, but I can't overwhelm people with all that stuff.
I just have to enjoy it myself and maybe with this now, I can occasionally put out a video like that.
I got Courtney and Jason's and NHRA's approval first because it is a behind the scenes deal, but I'm glad you liked it.
I don't know if it's the kind of thing that more people will like, but I had to share it.
I think again, as we're presenting things that the universe wants to see, I've seen like the in the booth videos from baseball games or basketball games were like,
you're seeing how the radio guys reacting to what he's doing and that that to me just adds this whole other layer.
And I think it kind of started with the Olympics. They started showing like rowdy games and those guys.
Did you see the Nix DJ won when they came back from the 29 point deficit, the guy who's playing the sound effects, you know, and they're there and they got the whole setup.
They had a camera on them and the whole time they're like this, you know, they're not going to say anything.
They're just like, right.
And they came back and they won the game. It was awesome. All that behind the scenes stuff really, really making it.
So this was a tiny contribution. Hartford was great. Hartford was insane.
Did you talk about Hartford and the beers, Abby? Yes. Yes, we did talk about the beers.
Did you tell him that Hartford referred to Elon as your husband?
I did not mention that.
That's why I'm that's why I'm here.
That's why you're here.
Even it was a slip of the tongue.
After I gave that great tribute to Elon, you know, I didn't try to like block out when people out of it.
I mean, what's happened a lot.
The relationships are a thing.
I think we look enough alike.

I think there's been an age difference.
It just fell out of his mouth.
Problem is, I was there to see it.
I know that's so great. That's why you're always on the spot.
But the funny thing is, Abby told me that Matt had dispatched Amber back to the pits to get my beer because they'd forgotten it on Sunday.
And I was like, that's the craziest thing I've ever heard.
So then I saw Amber, I was out talking to Jonathan Algrucci about winning three Flexjet races.
And as I'm coming back, Amber's kind of coming to their winter circle.
And I was like, Hey, I heard Matt sent you back to get my celebratory beer.
I go, please don't ever don't that's that's insanity.
Just keep doing it.
And she was like dead serious.
Like, no, that's part of the process.
That that's that's what we do.
And like that is now like truly in their race or superstition or whatever that the beer for me is part of the winning process.
And I think if they think, well, if we don't bring you on a beer after we win something, maybe we will never win anything ever again.
The structure on which the WFO was built that right there become part of winning.
You get to talk to WFO radio back to a decade and change now.
I love it.
I love it.
What did you what were you feeling in that pro stock final though?
Because I know you're connected emotionally with Greg Anderson as well.
I told people in the press room, it's up arrows for everybody.
I'm a winner either way, either Greg gets the win.
And here's where here's where I was also kind of agonizing of if Greg gets the win and he's the one year anniversary of his 1000th round win and he goes back to back.
That's good for the collectible.
I was thinking, okay, I have the collectible.
How can I subtly work the collectible into his post race interview because you know, he's the great.
He would totally be like, oh, by the way, you know, and then I could totally you guys were great talking about it during the, you know, naturally.
But then I was also but you know, if Greg doesn't win, I do get beer and I like beer.
So there was really, it was a truly win win situation for me.
Such as your life.
And it's so I love Matt's on so many levels as a competitor, as a person.
But the beer thing is it just makes me giggle like I don't even know how it started Joe.
I like it can't go back to like where why why this is happening we don't have a professional relationship we have.
I think you're part of my tangential relationship with them anyway because you have such a good relationship with them and I'm kind of glommed on to that.
But also I'll never forget the.
Pachanga bar incident where you and I were sitting there with Amber and Matt, and I kept calling her Amanda and Joe just subtly text me it's like me Joe, Amber and Matt and I'm calling her Amanda repeatedly repeatedly over and over.
Just sends me a text and the text was like her name's Amber and I was just like because I was saying it was such confidence like you've never once lacked for confidence.
No, but that that is that is burned.

But then we just kind of you know Matt, he won the Norwalk race a couple years ago and gate signed his champagne bottle.
And we like we bait well I think we polish the champagne bottle off in the press room together, which you know, again it's just a one.
Listen, here's the deal.
We are lucky to meet all these people and I would say I really, if you put a gun to my head and said the biggest jerk in drag racing.
I'd have a really tough time.
I'd have a really tough time we see them at their best they're doing what they love but man, there are some down moments, but the the Hartford's are good people.
They are good people that the you know Amber and Matt came to me about the hidden horsepower podcast years ago. A lot of engine building stuff there.
That's that you know we work together on those projects but they are true grit underdogs.
Yes.
KB they're amazing for what they've done the scale of it to scale the business elite now in top field.
But what the Hartford's are doing as a small underdog team, and they are a genuine threat to win the championship.
Oh for sure.
That's something to think about.
If they, I mean, they were talking about that they've had their best season they're equal their most wins.
They're winning too fast.
I mean, I think it's nothing but positivity for them.
And I think it's they're only going to get better because they've made been able to make so many runs this early in the season.
Absolutely.
And they are and the thing about those guys.
Eddie Granace under appreciated when we're talking about crew chief mentality.
The guys won the US nationals a couple of times now spent, you know, years with and around tricky Ricky Smith and a lot of really great stuff work for the captain.
And of course, they are planning for that from now.
They're planning for that, you know, tires and, and all of that.
So we'll see, we'll see.
Anyway, I just wanted to jump on say happy Father's Day.
