So talk about thoughts on the Southern nationals.

Let's dive right into drag racing talk with thoughts on the Southern nationals.

Do you give the Southern nationals?

You know, I went in thinking it was going to be a total just a mess.

I thought it was just, we were going to, with the rain and everything going in,

I thought it was just going to be like, what the heck are we doing here?

Why did we come here?

You thought it was going to be effing that year that it was just so terrible.

Yes.

And I'm like, you know, I got there and I was like, you know what, this place,

this is so bad.

And the track was fantastic.

Yep.

I saw Raul.

He introduced himself and I'm like, yeah, we've met like 400 times.

That's okay.

And I, but I was like, I go, Hey man, you did a good job.

This place is, I thought it was just going to be one of those things and it's not.

It's actually really good.

So thanks.

I gave it a solid B plus plus.

Yeah.

I would go there.

I would definitely put it there.

And the only reason I didn't give it an A is every place has room for improvement.

Yes, of course.

You know, and, you know, for a first time event, you want them to, you know,

dangle that carrot out there.

But I mean, they overcame the hurdle of racing, the rain delay on Saturday and parking everybody.

You know, F and Sean Lamey goes 345 miles per hour.

They're the fastest race track on the planet.

Yep.

The KS thinks that's mind boggling.

Yeah.

I mean, the Coletta guys, I mean, it's their world.

We're just living in it.

They are one and two in the points and top fuel and number one in funny car.

Yeah.

I mean, it's attractive.

And then you throw in Jordan Vandergriff getting his first fuel win.

And the run back was fantastic.

Yeah.

We should have seen that coming.

Right.

Well, it was funny as I saw, I'm on the fence line right there where I was and I look over

and I go, oh, there's Bob Vandergriff.

Yeah.

I wonder why he's here.

And so I say, Bob, what's up?

He goes, because I hadn't seen him since freaking Denver, like before the pandemic.

And I go, I go, what's up?

He goes, oh, I'm just here to see Jordan win.

And I was like, what?

Is there a conspiracy afoot?

Are we going to throw this?

Totally scripted.

Also Bob Vandergriff in great shape.

Looks like he could get back in a car any moment.

Yeah.

But he has no interest in doing that.

He's moved on to bigger and better things.

Yeah.

He's out playing golf doing everything.

That the Jordan Vandergriff runback was proof that, man,

that South George Motorsport Park has a long shutdown area because he did not realize how

long he was running.

I saw the raw food.

There's a Tik Tok or something on social media because Kurt Spittler got out there.

Let's just break this whole thing down.

So he gets out of the car.

He starts running.

And then from what I understand, everybody in the tower is like, hey, we got to run.

Yeah, they're making announcements.

They're trying to get his attention, making announcements about ProMod basically being

in the water box.

Yeah.

And they were like, so everybody in the tower was a little pissed off that Jordan was up.

They were a little pissed off.

I'm sure Josh Peterson and Mike Rice were not happy at all.

Happy at all.

They were ready to vacate that win and just...

Right.

But he gets out.

Joe goes, oh man, it's like the chariot to fire moment.

That's just, I was like, click, chariot to fire music, boom.

And then we went right into it.

But the best part was Amanda Busek getting in a...

Not a golf cart, a vehicle and driving to meet him.

Yes.

Amanda jumps over the wall.

Bob Bandegris there.

But Kurt Spittler picked him up by the scoreboards.

Yes.

Kurt's running with Jordan.

And you can hear, there's a video of Kurt's like raw footage of him running next to him,

which by the way, fantastic shot.

Yeah, it'll work.

But you can hear Jordan.

Yeah.

I was like, hahaha.

You didn't realize it was that far down the track.

He's totally rethinking that in those big boots that I'm sure are just sticking.

Yeah, it was a great moment, a great homage to his uncle who did the run back at Dallas.

I remember that when that happened in Dallas and he made it all the way back to the starting line.

That was impressive.

Yes, he did.

He did.

So that was a great moment.

There was some controversy in the pro stock ranks, which really upset the apple cart in that apparently hours after the race was over and the qualifying sheet was official.

Tech or competition throughout Matt Latino's run.

And because he took a helmet, took some of the safety equipment off.

Oh, that's right.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

You know, there was a whole thing, you know, there was even an alert about it before the race, don't take your safety equipment off.

Right.

And he took a safety equipment off at the end of Q three before he's off the track.

And it throughout have really good run that made him 13 qualifier moving back to 16 and into a head to head battle with his partner teammate, Greg Anderson.

And so bracket bonanza brackets are already out hundreds of people are filling out brackets.

And we basically had to shut it down.

Which leads me to believe that we will never get gambling, or we very hard to get gambling if we don't sort that stuff out the right because the difference between Greg and I don't know who was the previous number 16 qualifier and Greg versus Matt Latino my confidence of Greg against Matt Latino was exactly what

happened is that Matt Latino beat him on a whole shot.

Yeah.

Because Matt Latino is almost Justin actually liking a pro stock car sometimes.

He's not quite double O Dallas, but he's pretty good.

Right.

Yeah, that.

That's, I just, I don't get it.

I asked though, I said, Hey, now that I'm not working there, can I gamble on on these races?

Yeah, not that I'm getting good at it.

I go, you can't race bracket bonanza terrible.

We'll see how that plays out.

But yeah, yeah, you need to do start gambling.

You can supplement your income.

Yeah.

I saw, I saw people posting about the short fields and in HRA needs to reevaluate the the short field this and let you know people come in and I'm like, listen to you.

I didn't realize they were short because I don't pay attention to that stuff.

I show up, I do my job and I move along and whoever's there is there.

Yeah.

But you can't, you can't, they got to run a business number one, number two, that you can't just have people just showing up on a, on a Wednesday.

Right.

Because I got to map the pit out.

That's the thing is really Monday is really quite benevolent on the in HRA's part.

Right.

Because that means like if two guys in top field decide, Hey, I'm going to come to the race.

They have to remap it.

I mean, that's a, you know, and.

Yeah.

He's got a, he's got a big enough.

Yeah.

Now granted, there was room in that pro pit.

Oh yeah.

That was another thing too.

Yeah.

That pit was, I was like, man, this is a big place.

Yeah.

And they had a lot more room.

They could have put more stuff in there.

And I was like, I was just, I was just shocked at the facility.

I felt like it would, there was more pit space there than Virginia.

Yes.

Then Bristol.

Yes.

Maybe it's just wider.

And it may not have been quite as long, but I mean, I felt like, man, there's plenty of space and the way they did the staging lanes kind of coming out of the pit area.

Yeah.

But also the proximity of the grandstands to the track at South Georgia Motorsports Park worth the price of admission you are on top of the cars.

Oh, I was, I was definitely on top of the car.

The people behind me in the grandstands were on top of the cars.

Yeah, it was the best part was on Friday.

Everybody's just like, yeah, we've seen door cars before, whatever.

Rolled pro stock out at pro stock bike, whatever.

But the first pair of funny cars that went down.

Yeah.

I looked back, I go, because we've been telling, we were warning people, hey, man, you've never seen anything like this before I get ready.

It's going to come and smack you in the face.

And sure enough, this, this, this couple who was behind me, I was like, all right, let me focus on these guys.

This lady's face went from whatever to that.

And then her husband next to him, he was drooling.

He was physically drooling.

And they were like, oh, my God.

And I was like, your life changed.

I was like, here we go, dummy, pay attention.

So from that point on, they were, they were engaged after the first pair of funny car on Friday night.

It was good.

And they saw a pretty good show.

You know, I thought the car, you know, they had a situation with the lanes, but they kind of got that cleared up a little bit.

But I mean, just the, the racing round by round and getting one session in, I thought it was cool to do the track walk on Saturday night.

That was, yeah.

So yeah, they had to adjust the schedule.

Yeah, they were, they were recovering.

They wanted to keep people there because we didn't, because of the rain, we didn't, we didn't put a car down the track until 5pm.

And, but they were like, hey, let's do the track walk afterwards.

And let's do, let's do an autograph session.

And then they made me stick around for promod.

I'm like, yo, I don't stick around for promod ever, ever.

And they were like, no, you got to stay for promod, Jason.

You know, you love promod.

I know I like promod, but I don't need to sit around.

All right.

So Saturday night when we were done, we, we dined.

We did dine.

Or was that Friday night?

No, it was Friday night.

It was Friday night.

So we dined.

We found a great place.

Shout out to Dugene Bland, who recommended Hog and Bone, which bad recommendation Dugene.

I'm sure it's a lovely place.

They insert beer and it really had a chain vibe to it.

Yeah, we pulled up and we were like, no sir.

And Jason Galvin was very turned off by the fact that it had a drive-through.

That was a deal breaker for Galvin.

He was just like, oh, this place is a drive-through.

How great can it be?

Let's back up though.

We do like to go to, you know, we don't want to go to a chain restaurant.

We don't.

We want to go to authentic stuff.

So somebody told Joe about Smoke and Pig.

That's where we ended up going to.

And Smoke and Pig was fantastic.

Highly recommend.

It was good.

Oh, by the way, how great was our server?

Addison.

The employee, reigning employee of the month, served a table of 10 buffoons.

Right.

Like a champ.

Yeah.

She was awesome.

The food was really, really good.

We sampled a little bit of everything.

They gave us complimentary desserts.

Yeah.

Banana pudding.

Banana pudding and peach cobbler with ice cream on point.

And then now you didn't go.

You never made it to Austin's, the steakhouse.

No, I, but I saw it when I was leaving.

Galvin and I went to the steakhouse after the fan fest.

Right.

And that place was massive.

So big that Galvin and I went separately.

We both walk in and we both text each other.

Hey, I'm here.

And I'm like, I'm here too.

And he's like, I'm at the hostess stand.

And I'm like, I'm at the hostess stand.

Looking around.

He's like, I'm my hostess brown hair wearing a vest.

And he's like, my hostess has brown hair and is wearing a vest.

And at that point Galvin's hostess let him know there are two entrances to

this place.

Oh my God.

It's so big.

It's like, so we were just, I had to walk through the restaurant and it

was very funny because we could have done that.

Who's on first for probably 10 more minutes.

And so we ate and of course they were known for their prime rib,

which we also need to touch on for the smoking pig.

We wanted the prime rib.

We ordered the prime rib.

And then a minute later our waitress comes back who was also awesome.

It was like, I'm really sorry.

We just ran out of prime rib.

I don't understand how restaurants run out of food.

That's just me.

So we were kind of, well, I mean, they can only prepare so much.

And it's, you know,

I know, but it was also kind of a late, you know, whatever.

So no, no prime rib.

And we were kind of, so now the next night we go to smoke and pig and

they have prime rib on the menu and I'm at one end of the table

sitting across from the great Jared jib camera operator.

Right.

And there were 10 of us there.

He was the last one to arrive probably 15 minutes after everybody

else.

Right.

And he orders and he orders the prime rib.

And I tell Addison, Hey, when you get down to Galvin,

who I knew was going to order the prime rib, I go, right,

you need to tell him that Jared got the last prime rib.

And she, no hesitation was like, okay.

So she starts taking everybody's order and she gets down to Galvin

and goes, Oh, sir, what would you like?

Well, first of all, she was calling everybody by what they were

drinking.

Right.

He was like blueberry, whatever.

That was not that bad.

And then he goes, I have the prime rib and she perfectly goes,

I'm really sorry.

That gentleman just got the last prime rib and points right at Jared

and Galvin about jump.

What?

He was the last one here.

He just showed up.

She was so deadpan too saying it.

It was so great.

Immediately he's up on the tire.

And we all just cracked up and she's like, I'm just kidding.

That guy told me to tell you we're out of prime rib.

It was perfect.

Yeah.

By the way, not to get up in your business.

How much, what percentage of tip did you leave that Addison girl?

Oh, I think I left her 50%.

Yeah.

I left her like 35, 40%.

Yeah.

She was so good.

And she was like maybe 22 and listen, Galvin ain't the easiest

person to go have dinner with.

That whole table was just a,

Yeah.

We had,

I find myself going, don't mind him.

Don't mind him.

Yeah.

Cause he likes to talk to my cranky uncle.

Yeah.

He's funny with it though.

But yeah, no, that was great when he did, when she did that.

But yeah, I got way too, I had way too much food.

Ribs.

I had pulled pork.

Sausage.

Salad bar.

You had an extra rib and just gave me.

Oh yeah.

I can't eat it.

Look at this.

That was, so the restaurants were solid.

I'm excited about that cause I felt like we left some,

we left some things on the table there.

And I just can't say enough about Raul and Jennifer Torres and

their team about how well they ran that rate.

I mean, everything.

You know,

Dono,

the NHRA stepped up.

They always do, but they're more behind the scenes,

but they were front and center.

You know,

Jody Kennedy came up from Gainesville,

Evan,

Glenn Cromwell was out helping park cars.

All the executives were out there on Saturday,

getting everybody on the property.

Yeah.

They did do a good job.

I have my issues.

I think this is just me and I'm going to say it out loud.

I think when we go to places like this,

and I hope it happens in Maryland and Michigan,

it needs to be like guns and roses,

Metallica showing up to this little town.

It needs to be a rock show.

And I think we kind of,

kind of dropped the ball just a little bit on it.

And that's just a production back in deal.

And I,

and I made my voice kind of clear on it.

Like, listen,

we need to come out guns ablaze and it needs to be at

that freaking,

you need to turn it to 11.

It doesn't need to be intended.

He's to go to 11.

And, you know,

and I on Sunday or on Saturday,

when I was doing,

they made me stick around for promod.

One of the TV guys,

Lasky,

at dinner that night,

he was, bro,

that second promod internet intro you did was unbelievable.

I go, yeah,

you like that one?

I go,

I just, it needed something.

It just needed a little gas.

And I hope,

hopefully they do that when we go to Michigan.

It was like,

we come to places like that.

I mean,

this is the big,

this is the big show.

This is game day coming to your college.

Guess what?

It needs to be a monster of a show,

especially at the new places.

Yeah.

And I think I bet next year,

if you came this year,

I'm sure hopefully you had a great time.

When you come next year,

it will be 200% better.

Because, you know,

they're,

they didn't know what to expect.

They didn't want to get out over their skis.

Right.

But even I talked to Raoul yesterday and I was like,

Hey,

when they announced to sell out on Sunday,

how did you feel?

And he goes,

I felt like mission accomplished.

That's what we wanted.

He goes,

but I was already thinking of Southern nationals 2027.

And that's,

that's what you want your track operators to be doing.

He went to all the teams

and talked to a ton of drivers and crutch in a,

what can we do better?

What can we do better?

You know,

their whole goal is to get it better.

And, um,

you know,

let's,

let's pull up that comment from WFO Joe.

We'll touch on,

touch this base again about what a charmed life.

Um,

Sean Langdon is, is,

and he got on this on Sunday night after he won the race.

He runs three 45.

He wins the race and garlets is at the top end to give him the

trophy.

So he got the thousandth top fuel trophy from garlets.

He gets this trophy from guards and garlets on the mic,

which was,

that's got to be a career highlight for Joe Costello.

Yeah.

I could have done without it.

He is still a 90 year old man.

And some,

some of his, uh,

comments were a bit non sequitur,

but it was still,

he's a living legend.

Yeah.

I get it.

Don garlets is the one.

He's my guy too.

And I like him,

but that's what I mean.

let's go rock star on this stuff.

Let's not bring out,

we were at the new tracks.

He's very,

he's very funny comment, which it was so funny.

I think Joe had him and was asking about how exciting is top

fuel.

And he goes, I mean,

there's nothing more exciting than top fuel,

maybe war.

And I was walking out of the container deal and I saw Rachel

Delago, the general manager for Coletta Motorsports.

And I was like,

I'm sure I had a face look on my face of like,

what did I just hear?

And she's like, yeah.

Yeah.

You heard that right.

And I was like war.

Yeah.

And I go,

Garlets man.

Yeah.

Right.

What do you listen?

Well,

the fun part was they were like worried about Joe had Daryl

Gwyn and Garlets down on the starting line.

And before they went,

but with both of them,

Garlets,

he was talking to him and Garlets was like, Oh wait,

I can't really hear you.

Hold on me.

Take my headphones off and put my hearing aids back in so that

they can hear them.

And they were like, wait, don't start the car.

Let them get the hearing aids out.

Right.

Don't do it.

They were all freaking out because Garlets,

I can only imagine what Garlets was going to look like.

Like, oh, I can't hear.

Garlets would have blown his ear, blown his hearing out again.

We would have had,

we would only have like a year of Garlets with hearing.

Yeah.

So how crazy is 345 though?

I mean,

it's nuts.

I mean,

and it's,

I thought it was awesome.

It was such a round number.

Yeah.

Like 345 flat.

Right.

And then that was everywhere.

New York times.

All over the place.

It was great.

Dana Turner just watching all three days on dot TV.

They looked,

they bet looked great.

Kids sliding down the hill on Sunday.

That was fun too.

It was going over there.

So, I mean, just a great,

and I, you know,

the,

the gauntlet has been thrown down for these next three tracks.

you better,

I better be able to get in and out of there pretty easily.

And your foot,

no waiting for bathrooms.

And this is my,

this is my litmus test.

All your track operators out there.

Going to the bathroom in the morning,

middle of the day,

towards the end of the day, whatever.

That place always had paper towels.

Yeah.

never ran out of paper towels.

And that's,

I can't say that for every other facility.

No, you cannot.

Even the big nice ones that we go to.

The nice ones,

like maybe even the one we're going to next weekend,

I've been multiple times going in there and getting shut out

and then having to wipe my hands on my pants.

Yeah.

Um,

yeah,

I listen overall,

I thought that I attracted.

I mean,

they all went above and beyond.

I mean,

like I said,

Don O'Neill,

general manager of the track,

he kept coming to me.

He's like, Hey man,

let's have a great day.

And he was out there running around.

Like you,

they just went above and beyond.

I don't,

I want to know what the funnel cake sales were,

because everybody walking behind me had a funnel cake.

I was like,

these things must be amazing.

I had a,

I had the chicken tendies on Sunday and they were quite tasty

and they had solid french fries.

Oh,

their french fry game was also very strong.

I like that.

I like that a lot.

yeah.

And by the way,

getting out of the track,

was it bad?

No,

not even on Saturday when everyone was parked in the oval.

Yeah.

I sent Evan a text.

It took me 25 minutes to get out and that's,

I've gotten out of organized parking lots 10 times slower.

Right.

And I'm like,

it was,

it was insane.

I was passing Evan as I was leaving.

I go,

Hey man,

getting out has been pretty easy because I got my car and then just

got in line and then just drove right out.

yeah,

it was,

it was good.

I'm very,

I'm kind of excited to see what happens at the,

at the other tracks,

Maryland and Michigan,

because it's going to be,

it should be good.

Yeah.

And they were set up,

I mean,

their track setup is a little tricky with just that two lane road with

really no shoulder.

You know,

and luckily they've got two inferences on one on the north side,

one on the south side,

and then one in the middle for like,

but when they just bought everybody into the middle,

I mean,

it worked pretty good.

I was very nervous on Saturday cause they held the gates until noon.

Right.

And I was like,

Oh gosh,

I got their bottle.

I was like,

okay,

if they're holding the gates till noon,

how many people potentially could be in line waiting to get in?

And I got right in a little bit after 11.

Yeah.

I got there around 1130.

We went to breakfast,

me,

Galvin and Joe at this place called the omelet house.

Oh my God.

It was great.

Was it good?

I had steak and eggs and I had biscuits and gravy.

Steak and eggs was seven bucks.

Biscuits and gravy was five bucks.

I should have known about that.

Cause I went to the waffle house across the street from hotel.

I would,

I would have gone to the waffle house too,

but we found this.

It was a solid waffle house.

Can we talk about the truck stop that is Val Dosta, Georgia?

I mean,

let's be honest.

the where we are exit 18.

Yeah.

It's an over glorifying truck stop,

but man,

they had everything there.

It's just,

you had waffle house.

You had cracker barrel.

You had an outback.

You had a Texas road house.

You had Arby's crystals.

They had all the stuff.

They had a cookout.

I had a banana milkshake from a cookout.

Oh,

it was so good.

But they had everything.

I was like,

all right,

it wasn't, it wasn't.

Listen,

going into this, you're like,

oh, Val Dosta,

this place is.

Right.

Yeah.

And there was not a lot,

but the thing that's great is,

yes,

it's kind of in the middle of nowhere,

but it's 60,

60 minutes,

90 minutes from everywhere else.

Right.

From Tallahassee,

from Jacksonville,

people came down from Charlotte,

the great Kelly Crandall

and um,

Deb Williams were covering the race.

Yeah.

Mighty Mac came up from Florida.

I mean, we had good media coverage.

Um,

now the rain was a bummer,

but there were times when I was hoping

for maybe the rain to pop up again after racing

because of the Nats.

Yeah,

the Nats were bad.

And the Nats were just,

I mean,

you could kind of ignore them,

but then they'd kind of land on you

and you really couldn't swat them away

because that seemed to make them even more aggressive.

Yeah.

You know,

but we knew that going in that that was a thing

and that's apparently a thing all the time.

Yeah.

Oh, yeah.

And then driving there.

I drove from Orlando there three and a half hours.

Um,

the love bugs are out.

So get ready.

Love bug season.

They're everywhere.

Thank you.

I didn't know about love bugs until Jason educated me

before the show started.

The University of Florida created these things.

That's another reason why you hate the Gators.

That's just to hate them just because of that.

Yeah.

So also Saturday night.

Um,

what restaurant where did you get pieed at?

I got it.

It was a,

it was a,

we were going across the street there.

There was like,

there was a bar that was a live music and then they had,

so you had to pay a $10 cover charge or like,

no, we're not doing that.

Uh, so then we went to, uh,

the Mexican restaurant right next door and, uh,

somebody,

somebody's birthday was in there and they started playing on this

Mexican music.

I'm like, what is that?

We got to have fun.

And then all of a sudden here comes this lady.

And she's like, I hear it's your birthday.

And I'm like, Oh God,

I didn't see Evan or Galvin set this whole thing up.

And I'm like, yeah, of course it's my birthday.

I'm like, what are we going to get?

And, uh, Joe, Joe claims he, uh,

was out there trying to make sure I didn't get.

Pied in the face.

And they're like, yeah,

Galvin and Evan were like, no, we're doing this.

Courtney Anderson is like, no, we're doing this.

And, uh, sure enough, I would, I would,

I had a little Corona bot.

I went to blow it.

Like we'll make a little whistle sound out of it.

As I did it, that lady shoved that, uh,

whipped cream right in my face.

I'm like, Oh, was it on a plate?

It almost looked like she just had whipped cream in her hand.

Yeah. It was on a napkin.

Okay.

Okay. That's why it didn't look like a,

that's very funny that that's their delivery system as a nap.

Yeah. She goes, does this smell like chloroform?

Yeah, exactly.

It was just, it just looked very, right.

It was very funny.

Yeah. It was, I was like, oh,

and then of course all day on Sunday,

it was like, I could all like, I kept breathing through my nose.

All I could smell was whipped cream.

I was it. I was like, all right.

Well, hey, how about we pay some bills and then we'll get into

why you've got a celebratory pie in the face.

Can you update the world on what is going on in your life

and how sad we all are?

So I said to, somebody said something to me,

and I don't know if you remember the movie, that thing you do.

Do you remember that movie?

Yes.

So at the end, the guys like, the lead singer is like, I quit.

I quit.

I quit Mr. White.

I quit.

So I was like, stop saying you quit.

You're moving on to other things.

And I'm like, you're going on to other endeavors.

Yeah.

So listen, my deal, I've been doing this for over 20 years.

My first race was in 1995.

And I'm like, and I just kind of, it got to a point where I'm like,

you know what, I think I'm kind of done.

And, and I hate to say it, but my heart really wasn't in it.

And I told, and I've been looking for like a real gig forever,

like for the past year.

Right.

And I still have my company and I still do that.

But my wife basically said, you've got to get out.

Because if I wasn't, like, you know, I'll go three weeks without doing a drag race.

So she told me, you got to get out of the house, go find a job.

I'm like, okay, I'll find a job.

So when I did it, I was like, okay, well, I actually have a job that I kind of

like and the place where I work is actually kind of good.

And it's kind of a cool vibe.

And so a position opened up and it's basically becoming a manager and I'm

going to be like, you know, still be at the boat house, but I'm going to be

doing other things.

You know, maybe from earth, Abby, she's a lot of the brains behind drag race

bracket bonanza.

And she does a lot with Warner communications and helping Richard Gad

snap with big brothers, big sisters, and all the Warner communication,

communication clients.

She also happens to be my daughter.

And breaking news.

So we'll be a father daughter podcast combo.

And I'll obviously Jason will be welcome back.

But Abby grew up in John force racing's pit when I worked with them for

many, many years.

I still have dreams.

About Johnny, the chef's cooking.

Yeah, who doesn't.

I mean, so good.

But he drag racing.

Sheffery.

Yes.

And this happens to me all the time.

I'll be sitting watching TV or I'll be on my phone looking at stuff.

And my mind drifts to how to get to certain tracks.

Like from the hotel that we normally stay at, I just, I can, I can see the

route.

And I don't know, does that happen to you?

Like you say you're dreaming about food.

I just, I, I don't know why it's like, I know how to get from Waxahatchee

where we are, you know, or wherever we stay in Dallas to get to that track.

I know where the turn is.

Just because you've been here a few times.

Does that happen to you?

I mean, yeah, as if I'm dreaming about anyone's food, it's either my

husband's or it's for sure Johnny's.

And it's, it's, but Johnny's was both great because it was his cooking.

But there's also just like nostalgia for the time period.

Like I was also like nine.

So like red velvet pancakes when you're nine or like the greatest

thing on earth.

He made those just for you because he liked you because you were nine.

He had bits, but it was also great to, you know, working at JFR was awesome.

It was a wild time.

We were winning.

Oh yeah.

A lot of races.

So I was not used to attending a race and we lost.

Like it was just the expectation that if we were there, yeah,

a JFR car is going to be in the winter circle.

And he would then have to work later because they won.

And so then we would just keep eating Johnny's food and help him

clean up the hot, like the, the, his little area.

And then John would walk by and see my brother and I working.

And then he would just give us 50 bucks.

It was the perfect setup.

Yeah.

First time my kids saw $50 bill force gave it to them.

They're like nine and seven years old and forces sliding them 50 bucks

for, as she said, working, which was like wiping down tables.

And it was spectacular.

So that's awesome.

So Abby will bring a great perspective to the show.

You know, all those good things.

She travels to most of the races.

So I grew up around here.

This is her first for a, you know, we did not have to.

Cajole or too hard, but she did have to think about it.

So Abby, how, how excited are you to be co-hosting lives to drag

with your old man?

I'm pretty excited.

Full disclosure.

I never pictured myself doing a podcast or working in drag racing,

but I did attempt to have a job outside of the sport and decided

that was no fun.

And it's way more fun to be here.

So how did that job outside of the sport go?

You're like in your first big meeting.

Oh my gosh.

So I graduated from a zoo.

Greatest journalism program in the world, by the way.

M-I-Z.

M-I-Z-O-U.

Jason Galvin and I will fight about this because he believes where he

went to school is the greatest journalism school.

But anyways, I detract, I detract.

So I got a marketing job through like a career fair.

It was a agency in St. Louis.

They specialized in ag and pet products.

And I was like, Oh great.

This is like so far.

And I wasn't necessarily trying to be anti drag racing.

I just wanted to for sure try something different.

So it's my first day, we're doing ice breakers.

Like, Oh, tell us something about yourself that we wouldn't expect

just by looking at you.

And I was like, Oh, my favorite sport in the world is drag racing.

And my manager was like, that is so, so crazy.

One of our clients, actually the client you'll be working on just

started sponsoring a drag racing team.

Maybe you've heard of it.

They're called John Force Racing.

And I just about fell out of my chair because I was like, yeah,

I'm actually quite, quite familiar with John Force racing.

My father was their director of PR for like a decade of my childhood.

I have John Force's like telephone number of my phone.

He was invited to my wedding kind of thing.

Like my pots and pans were bought by, they were really bought by

Lori force. Let's be honest.

But like, but like he signed the card, that kind of thing.

So anyways, yeah, so that immediately gave me so much street cred

in the agency because like it's a marketing agency.

They don't have a drag racing background.

So they're calling trophies trophies and they're talking about like

they're most people's like knowledge around racing is like

NASCAR type terminology.

So the fact that I could like speak the language, help the

copywriters with that.

Also, I had a little bit of a relationship with the people we

interacted with like from the agency side to the JFR side.

So that just like was really helpful.

But yeah, the client was NK Siege, which would turn into GHX.

They were only a sponsor for JFR, I think for maybe two or

three seasons, but yeah, it was super helpful.

I like knew what people would want in like goodie bags for

hospitality and that kind of thing.

So yeah, you think you can escape John force and you cannot

impossible.

He just ropes you back in.

So yeah, so I did that for a couple of years was working with

Elon a little bit on the side.

And then a couple of years ago decided, let's just do this full

time. So similar to my mother, she did not marry Elon knowing

that her life would be all about drag racing.

And Adam married me, not knowing our life would be all about

drag racing and our lives dominated around like the NHA

schedule.

Yeah, this is when we can do things.

So Abby, has your house, do you have a room that's fully devoted

to drag race bracket bonanza?

I don't.

This is my office slash our guest room and it's, I don't think

I'm ever going to let it get to a point where it's like Elon's,

but I mean, I've got some.

Everyone says that I'm just, I'm just going to try this thing one

time.

Yeah, you're going to have to, you're going to have to have HR

communications.

Yeah, but look at this.

Ron caps from when he did his snake specialty car.

He gave us to me over here.

I have a couple of DRBB backs when I won overall

and top fuel at Norwalk last year.

Still being, still being reviewed by the drag race bracket bonanza

starting.

So this is someone that doesn't have a lot of equipment.

I don't have a lot of stuff, but it's all readily available.

Of course.

Well, it's on display.

I went to the window conference in December and it was an

indie and like a take a home way home was like little mini

milk things and are in a really yummy chocolate chip cookie.

And then at the end of last season, we made these are I made

these books.

Yeah.

This is full.

Abby Warner Woodward taking it to the next level for for our

clients.

But yeah, I just like made a little book that highlighted his

wins and also his involvement with big brothers, big sisters.

So I sent one to him and I sent one to his mom, but then we also

had ones made for ourselves.

So Richard signed this for me.

you know what?

I got Abby, you know how like, you know, somebody retires and

they go on a tour in the eighth state and you know, they give

a grandfather clock or a watch or maybe a motorcycle.

As I was leaving, our good friend WFO Joe Costello gives me

this.

I don't know if you could see it.

Hold on.

Oh, that's pretty cool.

Yeah.

He says Jason WFO, but wait, it came out of the summit thing.

Yeah.

It's the trifold from the summit motors.

I was like, thanks Joe.

He goes, you better.

Yeah.

I want to see that thing triple Matt displayed and you're

hanging over.

I was like, I go, really Joe?

And he was like a kid.

He's like, he drew a card for mother's day and he was so excited

to give it to me.

His eyes were glistening.

It was like Ralphie when he was going to see Santa like Santa.

He was so funny.

I was like, thanks Joe.

I'll take it with me.

Well, Jason, we cannot be sadder,

but also more excited to see you go.

And Abby, we're looking forward to a major adventure starting

next Wednesday when you and I are alive before Chicago.

Any thoughts on heading to Chicago?

Abby, you excited about Chicago?

Yeah, I'm excited for Chicago.

Chicago is one of the races I've been going to the longest.

I really like that facility.

It's super easy to get to Chicago too.

And then yeah, we also like from the Warner comm side,

we get to see some TJ Zizzo.

We get to see some Chris King.

You're going to miss out on TJ's nitro cakes on Saturday.

Yeah, pancake breakfast.

Yeah, we'll put some in an envelope and mail them to you down to Florida.

Exactly.

So yeah, so there's just a lot of fun.

I'll get to see my friend Dave in Chicago.

So it's always a fun time.

And it's also like, I feel like Chicago is when you hit the point

in the season where you now feel like you're really in it.

Like you're the sixth race in.

You have an idea of like what all the teams are made of at this point.

It's not quite crunch time to the countdown.

But you definitely like you're,

it's no longer the beginning of the season anymore.

We are in it.

So what's not to love.

I hear you have that one.

Remember that time where we had that big dust storm in Chicago that one time.

That was last year.

It was the worst day ever.

I'm like, mother of God.
